Heard do much about this place! Soo many famous visitors and so much history. Tried a whooole bunch of gujrati snacks from here. Was all good.
The historic restaurant lives up to its reputation. The Fafda Jalebi are amazing to taste with a awesomely prepared Papaya Chutney. The prices are reasonable to the quality offered.
For all jalebi cravings, the place to go to. The perfect crispy yummy jalebis. We also tried the puri sabji, which was delicious cute little puris with the perfectly spiced sabji. There's so much more to try, so waiting for another trip to this little outlet to experiment more from their menu.
Chandra Vilas is a heritage restaurant wherein they have two different shops, one for thali and second for snacks and Puri shak.
We tried - Fafda jalebi, gota, sev usal, chai. In these dishes - gota was very oily and you can feel it. Apart from gota, all dishes were up to the mark in taste. A recommended heritage joint for snacks craving.

Chandravilas and its thali has been luring foodies for eons and hence, holds a significant place in Amdavad’s history. Owner Chimanlal Joshi created the first thali which comprised an assortment of green vegetable curries, rotli, bhakhri, parathaand poori, besides potatoes, lentils, rice, dal, farsan and sweets — all of this for Re 1.
The eatery’s repertoire of customers included personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Indulal Yagnik, Sardar Patel and Bollywood showman Raj Kapoor. But what makes this place significant is the history it holds. Chandravilas stood as a symbol of communal harmony until 2002, when the entire market was turned to ashes in the Godhra riots. The fire destroyed both Hindus and Muslims and it seemed that everything was sloshed out, the place, the food, and friendliness that lasted over generations.
Pavan Joshi, fifth generation of the Joshi family, now handles the restaurant, said, “For generations, Chandravilas stood next to a shop of pens owned by Zahir Maniar. It was a symbol of communal harmony. One day, the Maniar pen shop was attacked, we also became victim of 2002 communal riots.” A symbol of communal harmony It took a decade for Chandravilas to be ‘reborn’, the restaurant opening its doors to customers again in February 2012.
The famed thali is now priced at Rs 100. Besides the thali, foodies also enjoy the farsan and hot jalebis. Chef Motibhai, who has been cooking here for over a decade now, said, “Over 500 people from the city and nearby villages come here every day for lunch and snacks. The menu changes every day as well as according to season.
Must try - Sev usal, kadhi, fafda, jalebi, farsan, Gujarati thali.
One of the oldest stalls with authentic gujarati breakfast. Must visit place for those coming to Ahmedabad for the first time. They have a Thali option with all the delicacies- Khaman, Patra, Phoolvadi, Fafda, Jalebi, Kadhi, Sev tomato. Separate optins are also available.
I went there for food blogging. I was stunned. The way they they treated us was very nice. All food was prepared infront of us. Very hygienic food served. This restaurant is 120 years old. Amitabh Bachchan, Gandhiji, sardar Patel, Raj Kapoor and may celebrities have visited this place. I ordered fafda and jalebi. Jalebi has very nice ghee fragrance and sunset orange colour. It was mouth watering. The best part I loved was there kadhi. It was very thing and yummy. I would recommend never miss this amazing place.
Located in Old Ahmedabad, this shop has been serving yummy gujju food for more than 120 years now, and they r a pioneer at it.
We went here for breakfast at around 10.30,within minutes it was a full house. We tried Jalebi, Gathiya and Chai.
Gathiya was served with Kadhi and raw papya Chutney. Soft warm Gathiya tasted yummy with d Kadhi. Jalebi was Crispy n juicy. Chai was traditional gujrati chai, depending on ur taste buds u might or might not like it. Service was super quick. All of this costed us 140/- value for money. Ambience is just basic, nothing special, the food talks for itself.
My first destination whenever I visit ahmedabad. I dint even check into hotel and directly came here to have traditional gujarati food. I have been missing this place since an year. This is a must visit place to have traditional gujarati food. They have mix thali to give you all the flavors @150 rs I guess. I like their tea also. Don't expect too much aesthetics just think of yummie food here and you won't be upset.
What a scrumptious food!!! Authentic Gujarati dishes like bataka nu shak, daal, chana nu shak, matho, jalebi, sev usal, fafda, methina gota and chaas. Maintaining the same taste for more than 100 years is quite an achievement. Superb food.
The oldest food joint in Ahmedabad. This place is quite different that what you must have pictured it on your mind. Chandravillas is a very down to earth place, the owner is very humble. Reviewing the food will be an insult to the pioneers of Thaali and Fafda/ Jalebi in Ahmedabad.
Great place for some authentic Gujarati Breakfast & Lunch !
Located At The City Centre is easy to locate.
Pricing is Moderate & is Worth the taste.
Identical food of Old Ahmedabad where Chimanlal Joshi gear up the concept of eating fafda & jalebi together for the first time. And it becomes a tradition since there. Every amdavadi should visit at least once as its a heritage food joint stand tall since pre-independence. Ambience is avarage but food is good. Full Gujarati thali is still famous as before. So just go and try.
Good morning Ahmedabad.
Arey you living in Ahmedabad ?? Are you a Gujju Like me ?? Than what are you waiting for. Go to old city and enjoy this Fafda dish in Morning. --------------------------------------

This one visit was with my friends, who organized a heritage morning walk,
oh what a lovely ambience, old fashioned sitting system, looking so nice, lot of gathering at early morning hours, round about 8.00 am,
fragrance of desi ghee, live scene of jalebi making, one person sitting there busy to prepare garama garam jalebies, a sweet full of taste, full of fragrence,
further tested one of fine quality fafada with chutani here, one of cities most popular phaphada,
Was just passing by and saw a board of Chandra Villas, had heard lot of it from my mother and grandmother about this legendary restaurant for gujarati snacks and jalebis. And notice few hot jalebis were getting prepared and end up having non required break. On sitting their we realized how old this place was and their stories from newspaper cuttings displayed.
We had Jalebis, Khaman, sev usal. Jalebis were brilliant nice and hot.. remaining two were OK. Also packed fulwadis for home which was great. Hygiene can be an issue for some. A must visit .
Super food. I don't know why I never had food there. It's 115 years old restaurant. Probably the oldest in ahmedabad. Best Gujarati food. Not sure but ghee on chapati was little doubtful. Rest was super awesome. Must visit if u r ever near Fernandez bridge area.
I was just roaming around the station area in Ahmedabad, when I saw this restaurant. Located in a corner, may go unnoticeable, if are specially looking for this one and miss its sign board.
It was soaring summer noon and was feeling hungry, when I decided to enter this outlet. Have ordered some typical home made vegetarian thali, although never wanted to do so, but was not left with any options. The thali had two vegetables, dal, rice, masala papad, pickel, salad, bhurji and chapati. A complete meal I'd say. This was an amazing experience. The jalebi in the dessert was an fabulous ending to my lunch.
Thanks Mota bhai!!!
The place were we could quench our thirst for fafda jalebi.Located in the busiest street of walled city. The fafda-jalebi are just mouthwatering.A must visit place when you are in old city.
Find of the iconic restaurant in Bhadra and in a busy street. Here we had our fill of Dhokla, Hit jalebi and methi fritter balls/ methi nu gota with tea. As you see in pics akk thus quantity came in 150 bucks. I will def visit again...
Total value for money!!!!!
Awesome lip smacking fafdas and jalebis are mouth watering. The shop has been there for a very long time. The fafdas have the right Gujju taste and the jalebis are juicy and crisp. The tea there is also nice. They also serve Gujarati lunch at a minimal price which is also good. A must visit for morning breakfasts
Just amaizing...ordered undhiyu puri rasa wala bateka ,khaman , jalebi and masala chass. ..All was just perfect...great authentic taste of undhiyu...jalebi was lip smacking...better then any other big restaurants...One should surely visit...115 years old hotel...In the year 1900 they served thali for just 1 rupee...Our bill was just 207 rupees...perfect quantity....just awesome. ..Impressed. ..
Went there for a Gujarati breakfast. Had chai, fafda and jalebi and yummy khaman. It's not for people who are looking for a posh restaurant. But for those who want to have a different experience and taste some authentic gujju dishes. It's an old place with bare minimum facility but a nice stop amidst the old city of Ahmedabad.
A group of enthu foodies ended up exploring this old style joint in the walled city and mind you, they didn't return disappointed. Chandravilas- the place which carries on legacy from a very olden era, lives up to the hype it is under.
The place opens up at 8.00 am and we reached there around 8.30.
We were enticed by the amazing smell of the freshly made farsan.
Fafda, papaya cheen and kadhi - freshly made fafdas and piping hot kadhi, just enough to make one happy
Jalebis- we ordered I-lost-count plates and they were equally yummy and perfectly sweet.
Gota served with the same kadhi- could have been a bit crispier but nevertheless we gobbled down all.
Paatra- the one thing which will definitely disappoint you, these were served cramped up in a teeny-weeny plate and had double the salt in them.
We were a group of 7, and atleast 5 of us got stuff packed to take back home for the families.
Price suits the pocket, must try atleast once. The amdavadis settled here must atleast experience this morning breakfast fun once while the ones trying to explore places in the city should consider this and few places around chandravilas as a good option to know the walled city!!
If you are looking for ambience, please don't even try and step in... Because this is no restaurant, it's more like a roadside eatery!!
Sunday mornings become exciting when you end up having hot and piping fafdas and jalebis at Chandra Villas... This place claims to the pioneer in serving gujarati thali. Famous freedom fighters and political leaders seem to have frequented this very place for their lip smacking kadhi. Reasonably priced, Chandra Villas is one place that every thali loving person should go
A restaurant of an Old Ahmadabad charm and treat for Ahmedabadi Farshan and its Ghee Jalebi. An 118 Year old legacy where the Father of the Nation visited because of its liking for its food. Moderatly Priced and a great nostalgic value a must vist.
It has its own Gujarathi thali and Farshan such as Fafda, Patra,Gota,Jalebi, Papdi and Puri Shak. Also choice of a Gujrathi meal is also there.

Why weeat Fafda L Jalabion Dussehra?
In Hindu Scriptures it is a ritual that any fast must end eating food prepared from gram flour (Fafda).
"ne reason for Jalebi is as per Scripture
Load Ram loved a sweet called Shashkul (Jalebi) and Lord Hanuman loved items prepared from gram flour.
Hence delicacy offered are loved 6y
Lords. Medically it is good to eat Jalebi during this season as we have hotter days and cooler night to control Migraine attacks. So for our rituals and medicinal value we need to Relish Fafda and Jalebi. How wonderful is our deep rooted culture…isn’t it?
Chandravilash Hotel at Relief Road is an absolute treasure! 😍 They're famous for the heavenly jalebi fafda combo that's actually said to have started right here. 🌟 Many film stars have savored their delectable jalebi and fafda, and it's no surprise why.
Stepping into this place feels like stepping into the heart of Ahmedabad's heritage. 🏛️ The old city vibes add a special charm to your dining experience.
As for the food, I indulged in the most scrumptious jalebi fafda, along with some mouthwatering chole puri. 🤤 The jalebis were crispy and sweet, the fafda crunchy, and the chole puri was bursting with flavor. It's an experience that'll leave your taste buds dancing with joy! 💃🕺 Don't miss out on this culinary gem – a visit to Chandravilash Hotel is a journey into Ahmedabad's culinary history that you won't want to miss. 🍽️👌

Old restaurent and must try in Ahmedabad. Their food does all the talking. Order one thali for the group which can be used as a sampler and then order what you like.
I loved the fact that after you eat you tell the cashier what you ate and pay for that. No one keeps count of what you ate and it is a pure belief system.
We had the fafda and jalebi and the thali platter and ordered more of what we needed.
Best experience. 👌 do visit if you want to have Gujarati breakfast. Jalebi is very yumm. Chandravilas special thali in 300 is very nice. 2 person can easily share and enjoy. Affordable and tasty food available 😋 ✨️
This place has heritage vibes and carries history along with it for more than 80 years. It was a chilling place of 1st Ever Dy PM of India, Mr. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel along with M.K. Gandhi.
During winters, you must try their Lilvani Kachori (green tuver kachori) and obvious picks are their pure Ghee fried Jalebi and Fafda( it is assumed that the tradition of eating Jalebi and Fafda was started by Chandravilas restaurant).
I loved their homely styled Tea too.
A combination of all the available snacks is also served at 300/- plin form of a Thali (pic attached)
It was a very old and famous restaurant in Ahmedabad, all the snacks were delicious especially the Jalebi in pure ghee. Must try!
I tried their fafda, khaman and jalebi which is delicious I recommend eating jalebi there only because it's made by ghee...
120 year old heritage restaurant and has lot of shops around for shopping cheap and good things.
No proper Waiters. food was really nice and fresh.
Cost wise slightly higher side as compared to service and facility.
Billing was very unique. We have to inform what we are at reception and they will charge accordingly
Chandravilas was the place because of which we planned our Ahmedabad trip over the year end. After landing in Ahmedabad at night, the next morning we rushed to this place for breakfast. And it was authentic Gujrati breakfast that was served to us. Khaman, Fafda, Jalebi, Poori Bhaji etc.
This is one of the oldest restaurants in Ahmedabad where many famous film personalities and big political figures like PM Modi, Amit Shah used to frequent.
It was a good experience to have breakfast at a place which had one of the rich legacies.
This restaurant serving since 120 years and the historic restaurant lives up to its reputation. The Fafda - Jalebi are amazing to taste with a awesomely prepared Papaya Chutney and kadhi.
The famous food dishes are Fafda-Jalebi but you can try special combo which they serves which includes Fafda, Jalebi, Bhajiya, Puri, Patra, and many more gujarati items. This combo is available till 1:00 PM only so plan accordingly.
They also serves Gujarati Thali till 4:30 PM.
This restaurant is in old city i.e. Gandhi Road, and doesn't have any specific parking space so I recommend to go with 2 wheeler and try to get as early as possible.
What a place!!! You will find the best gujju snacks here.
Chandravilas is a Heritage Restaurant is Famous for Fafda - Jalebi. Puri Sabji is also Famous.
Chandravilas.."the legacy"..serving since 120 years...

Come to this place and try Indian and Vegetarian cuisines. At Chandravilas restaurant, you may order tasty dhokla and good bhaji. The cooks here prepare perfectly cooked jalebi.
It's a must to taste great tea while coming to this place.
The professional staff works hard, stays positive and makes this place wonderful. Prompt service is a strong point that plays a great role for the success of this spot. You will like adequate prices.
This is too old place in the Ahmedabad old city....We tried almost all dishes they serve....Each dish was sooo good and amazing....Very fast Service and good staff.
Visited this place as it was an old and heritage restaurant. One can get snacks options over here. We ordered Puri Shak and a plate of fafda. Fafda were a bit thick compared to other places where we had. Must visit if you are interested in exploring different places to eat.
