A recent survey listed Gunpowder as one of the top 10 restaurants in India, so I decided to drop by this place when in Goa, since I had the feeling that the rating was largely influenced by the ambience. While the ambience is amazing, the food was equally great, especially the Appam and the Idukki pork curry. The beef curry and Kerala mutton curry were quite delicious too, but the pork curry was the winner hands down. Also, this place is quite affordable considering the ambience, the quality of food, and the fact that it’s within the premises of People Tree. Can’t wait to visit this place again. Strongly recommended.
A wonderful place for Sea food lover, the preparation of food is so mouthwatering that u can't stop u to go regular once u taste it.
The ingredients in every dish is so perfect which make it so delicious which make u to remember it taste for long time.
The service is so good & all staff are so polite & well versed with there service which make you feel that u get more worth then what u paid.
Its not just another place ...
Its just the place to get absolutely good food service and spectacular stuff. The whole place has a charming ambience. The staff are courteous and very pleasing....*****
Authentic Kerala food located away from the crowd. The moment you take the first bite you will think about the food only nothing else. Recommended to anyone who wants peace, greenery and delicious food all at one place.
My fav place in Goa for an authentic goan meal. Love the vibe. Ordered Vegetables in coconut gravy with rice appam and it was delicious. The appams were very soft. The pineapple lemongrass cooler is fab.
The staff is very kind and hospitable.
Location is a little difficult to figure out but its totally worth the ride. On my visit i came to know its pet friendly which is a win win for me. Totally recommend it.
Just a beautiful goan place, amazing old architecture, great vibe and style, super delicious food and absolutely unique and awesome handmade products! A must visit
The ambience, food and perfect blend of European and Indian makes the place unique ! I enjoy every bit . its a ritual for me to visit gunpowder whenever I am in Goa !
Strongly recommend.. went for lunch.. must have is pepper mutton and pork ribs.. they are the best in GOA

Best ever cocktails by the most knowledgeable bartender...
Blew our minds away..
Loved the south Indian food.
Very good ambiance and food, especially the very rafined cocktail made and ispired by Evginia, I enjoyed it:)
We loved the food as well as the ambience at this cafe. Everything we ordered here was just fantastic. I personally like it so much that went down twice to have lunch while on a short trip to goa. Sol kadi is a must if you ever visit this place.

Now here’s a restaurant that invites you to immerse in ‘susegad’ – the lazy ease that permeates this gorgeous place called “Gunpowder”, where you can kick-back with a long, laidback lunch. It is located in Assagao, a magical place that hides quite a few brilliant lil eateries.
.
Sprawled in the backyard of an old Portugese house that also houses a design studio, this restaurant is bohochic & offers quality food from southern India in its pleasant, quaint setting. We were lucky to find a seat at the front of the house, in the balcao – where tables and chairs had been set up with a host of knick-knacks on sale by our side.
.
We popped in for a quick meal and would have loved to stay & eat ourselves into a food coma, but we tried only 2-3 dishes, and they were mouth-watering good !! Since the food here is mainly from the coast & backwaters of Kerala, I noticed almost every table had an order of Fried fish with a generous amount of curry leaves on top. That totally piqued my interest & I had to see what the fuss was about. Thank God I did cause it was delicious!! And then we ordered for the Madras chicken curry which stole the show ! It’s was a mildly spiced chicken-on-the-bone curry with coconut milk. We mopped up that curry with some Malabar Paratha & steamed rice . My decision to bypass the egg appam & dessert are ones I regret....but there’s always the next weekend !! (Now that I’m a local not a tourist 😉)
.
Dining here can help kill two birds with one stone, the second being shopping. The main section of the house has some interesting stuff curated for people to shop..from the popular brand ‘People Tree’. Handmade jewellery, boho clothing, sustainable apparel, crafts & books - a great store to discover some cool finds.
.
This place also gets extra points for being open in the monsoons. Set in a beautiful setting with vibrant foliage, white bougainvillea vines where birdsong is omnipresent..Gunpowder not only extends visual relief but also divine food to nosh on !!
.
Meal for two: Rs.2000/- (without alcohol)
Gunpowder has been on my go-list for quite sometime now!
It’s a Portuguese heritage home converted into this charming restaurant, and offers an anticing South Indian cuisine experience, particularly AP and Kerala.
Gunpowder feels like a storybook garden with its lush greenery, rustic settings, crafty flowered ceiling. All this with the fieriest of all Indian cuisine (South) and it’s eclectic cocktails, heightens the experience.
Must haves: Pandhi curry (coorgi style pork curry) which is more dry than curry, beef fry.
All go great with appam!
Andhra prawn masala and spicy potatoes are good options too!
The food is Authentic, bold and is so well
blended, it gives an impression that the spices have been marinading with the meats for days together (which is why everything tastes so good)
Many beverages too have a touch of South with its tamarind, lime, curry leaves based cocktails/mocktails.
Must try the Tamarind Highball! (Mocktail) You’ll love it if you’re into the sweet- sour tamarind and pineapple flavour. And once your lips meet the salt and red chilly rimmed glass, the combination of flavours is mind blowing!
Basil tender coconut refresher is great on a hot summer day!
Our server Prabhakar took good care of us. All the food was served without delay.
It’s always better to reserve in advance since it can get quite rushy, especially during lunch hours.
Prices are reasonable, and good quantity.
Fantastic Food, Service, Ambience make Gunpowder an ideal destination for a Sunday lunch!
Gunpowder - another name for assagao.
If you haven't already been here, you can't say you love Andhra food.
The food here is delicious - hands down no complaints.
The Andra styled food along with the beautiful ambience makes this place an all time favourite.
I tried their coorgi styled pork which was a mix of sweet and spicy, yet it had an Indian taste to it.
The prawn curry was also nice and had a very mild favour.
We tried the malabar paratha, appam and dossai. The appam was my absolute favourite.
When in Assagao head here directly.
Service was prompt and friendly.
Landed in Goa for my friend's bachelor party. First thing we did was visited Gunpowder for lunch as it was on our way to the hotel. Trust me this restaurant set our Goa food standards so high it's the best food I have had. The egg appam was just perfect and prawn malai curry is just the best I had so far. The staff was courteous and the ambiance of this place takes you to a relaxed mode. I will visit this place everytime I am in Goa that's for sure.
I have been a very enthusiastic South Indian food consumer but there was something very authentic about this place which the North Indian in me truly couldn’t enjoy. The coconut oil aroma in every dish couldn’t be ignored and was overwhelming which made my tasting experience underwhelming.. but that’s just my Preference.. big ups to them for maintaining the authenticity! I absolutely love the egg appams and Malabar Kerala parotta! Unfortunately I will reserve my North Indian comments about the curries.
Visited place in February this year! Amazing South Indian food-especially appam. would love to visit again
Awesome awesome awesome.. can’t wait to visit again.. i loved their cocktails 🍸. And food 🥘 was mind blowing ❤️
The place sounded very far from my stay.. but was too worth!! All of us enjoyed the food and the ambience ! The apam & chilli potato was ordered on repeat 😍 must visit for the best southindian food on goa 🔥
Had a delicious lunch at Gunpowder this afternoon. Started of with beef chilly which was tasty but very spicy and chewy. Next starter was Pepper Mutton which was super. Main course was kingfish curry with Aapam. This was better than the starters. Finally the star of the show was their days special. The Mutton stew. Probably the best I have had anywhere in the country. Very relaxed ambience and good service. Meal for two was 2500 AI
@gunpowder.goa
We reached there at 3.15 pm and was said that they are sold out
though after requesting the staff which were super cool
They managed to give us a table after being asking to wait at the bar
The bar area was super cool though
So we ordered here the
Beef chilli which was good
I really loved the snapper here
Fresh and amazingly cooked and tasted nice
Also in love with their Prawns curry
It was amazing totally recommended dish
Had their coconut pineapple smoothie which was really good
And at the end just loved their coffee tiramisu desert which was amazing
Recommended
Great vibes
Cool place a must visit

This small restaurant offering southern Indian delicacies in goa is a must go ... the appams , prawn curry , tamarind rice , crabs & the drinks are all to die for ! The ambience is amazing too!
I forgot to book the table in advance which is actually mandatory as it's hard to get place there. But the staff was so courteous, that he took us upon mentioning that it's gonna be a quick dinner. Had appam, stew and lassi. Wow good. Must go when in Goa.
Love the ambience of Gunpowder. This place has a small menu, but all the dishes are authentic delicacies from the southern States of India. The andhra style prawns curry with appams is an absolutely unforgettable dish. They serve some awesome feni based cocktails too!
We visited this restaurant during one of our Sunday Bike ride.. I must say we were it was worth coming here.. amazing south Indian food... they also have a well stocked retail shop and a Bar..
They serve South Indian food and the food is fabulous. Liked everything. Favourites- channa salad, pumpkin gravy and the appam. The mushroom and the potato starter is a must try.
It was pack house on tuesday dinner, still the wait was worth it. They had different menu with simple and surprising taste. We ordered lemon rice and red spinach in yogurt which was really somethingthat we have never come accross yet. As we added our main course with tasteful mint buttermilk we had no room left for dessert.
The best mutton stew I have ever had, it was going so good with appam as well as rice. The pork ribs were so tender that it was just melting in mouth. It was a feast to the mouth with so much flavors complimenting each other. Must try dishes when you plan to visit.
You can go out with your friends and have dinner lunch breakfast it’s quite enough for parties birthday parties wedding anniversary is much like family partyYou can enjoy a date with your girlfriend food is very cheap and best quality
The quality of the food is fantastic, including the pumpkin dish
Finally made it here after several Goa trips, and ended up going twice in our 4 day trip. If you like coastal cuisine, do yourself a favor and go! Location: It is set in and around an old house, with the bar setup indoors, and the dining is outdoors - in a covered area surrounded by greenery. We were able to get a table, without reservations at slightly off-peak timings, both for dinner one night and lunch two days later. But a reservation may be advisable. The bar area is small, with limited seating at the counter, but a nice place to sit and watch the bartender prepare the many offerings. The drinks were well balanced, attractive, and tasty. The food though is the star! We had the Coorgi Pandi curry (Pork), Mutton stew, Mutton curry, appams and parota(this was dry). The Pandi curry, stew and appams were par excellence! I would go back again and again as long as they continued to have that on the menu. In fact we did go back a second time just to have that. Their desert varieties were limited in availability. The vermicelli payasam was the only true disappointment, since it was a poorly executed and watery version of this very basic item. The service is attentive and low key. Noise level is low and relaxing. I will definitely be returning as often as possible, to try some other items on their extensive menu.
Absolutely loved the food.

We went there when the rain had stopped but they didn't have enough seating to give us a seat. We were told a waiting for more than an hour since other guests also were just helped to find alternate seating arrangements.
Server suggested us to do a take away so we did that.
Food was really good. Starter prawns and tamarind fish were really good and unique South Indian flavored. Definitely would come again to hopefully eat at the restaurant than do a take away.
Good range of cocktail menu is also available (assessment basis our time waiting for out take away order while waiting at the bar and seeing drinks order fly out)
Gunpowder is one of the best places to eat in Goa -- consistent in deliciousness and not priced over-the-top. Worth the trip to Assagao. Here, Delhi's loss is Goa's gain.
The beauty of Gunpowder's food are the spices, each dish has a different interplay, and of course, how the meat (fall-off-the-bone) is cooked.
If you have never been to an Onam sadhya, then this could be the place to show you just how delectably diverse Malyali food is.
The menu is not overwhelming, which made it easy for us to pick out our favourites both the times we went there for lunch in the same trip.
The meat dishes - mutton and pork - that we tried were cooked in a way that is hard to come by in regular eateries. The pandi curry had enough fat and softly-cooked pork to set off the happy hormones. And the two mutton dishes made even the mutton-hater among us swear by them.
Amidst all this meat excitement, there was yet another dish that had us do the secret happy dance each time it landed on the table -- the pineapple pachadi. Seasoned to perfection, tangy and sweet, it was one of the best pachadis for the unenlightened us. It was a surprise find, as I ordered it with curd rice and then the second day, we were sure to order it.
Gunpowder also has a host of desserts supplied by a local duo from the looks of the menu, though I have not chatted with them on this. But the apple tart we had was scrumptious in its buttery crunch and cinnamony-filling.
The second day we were so wasted with our savoury courses that ordering the lemon flan remained just out of reach.
The setting of Gunpowder takes simple props to create a pretty scene. Coloured swatches in rainbow hues cover the top beneath towering trees, covering the dining floor with dappled sunlight at lunch.
Most importantly, Gunpowder has not scrimped on the fans, imperative in year-round humid Goa. The more-expensive Thalassa could take a note or two on making its space more friendly from these guys.
Gunpowder will now be my comfort restaurant on my Goa visits.
An upscale and hoity toity place to be seen at when u r in Goa. The restaurant is based inside the ground area of a bungalow and it simple yet so pretty. Colourful ribbons are tied as ceiling above the tables and it looks fantastic when the sun light sweeps through these ribbons. The crowd is extremely polished and elite. The service is fine. They had kept 2 big tables booked which looked fake to me as no one really came there till we dined there. So to create a demand it was probably a gimmick which I didn’t appreciate. The food is mainly south style and has a lot of coconut, tamarind, curry leaves flavours which we love. The spicy roasted potatoes were good. The mushrooms in black pepper is an absolute must try here. The malabari parotta with a coconut milk based vegetable curry was excellent. The gunpowder beers are cool too. A must visit place in Goa for sure.
The ambience is very peaceful. The Kerala beef fry was divine !
The best meal I had in Goa!
You must know this at the onset: if there has been any place that we have never once been disappointed with, then it's *_Gunpowder_*.
A limited menu, yet it's a balanced assortment of dishes that will satiate your desire of having authentic and exquisite South Indian cuisine.
As opposed to the general view of how different curries taste the same in some restaurants, the curries of different meat/styles at Gunpowder have a varied look and taste, both.
Having been there more than a couple of times, let's take you through what all we've had here in no particular order:
Pomfret fry....A must-try! Don't forget to thank the Chef after..
Mutton pepper fry....the meat is incredibly soft and succulent..
Andhra Prawn masala....nice and crispy..
In curries, Royal pulusu, Backwaters prawn masala, Kerala mutton curry....all had authentic tastes of their own with the seafood/meat cooked to perfection...
The appams are to die for...try the egg ones too..they just melt in your mouth..
For dessert, try the dark chocolate ganache....the perfect way to end your meal..
***Be advised to always call and make a reservation beforehand.

Tried the fried Anchovies and calamari as starters which were packed with lot of flavours. Main course consisted of appams along with a Pandi* pork Curry. Absolutely loved the food and would highly recommend this place either to dine with family or friends.
I had to wait for half an hour to find some room for me to eat. Quite popular and wort the wait.
We ordered:
1. Andhra prawn masala
2. Pomfret fry
3. Mutton chops
4. Butter chicken
5. Dal
6. Steamed rice
Prawns delighted the nerves out of me ♥️
Rest was good too.
Their service and ambience is quite admirable. It's got an in-house store too and you might find stuff to admire.
This place came highly recommended during my visit to Goa, so decided to give it a try. Still don't regret my decision.
This places ticks all the right boxes - taste, ambience, staff, value for money etc.
It won't surprise me if you pass on the road and miss this hidden gem.
Without thinking twice, just go and visit Gunpowder for a wonderful goan experience!

This is no doubt the best place to eat in Goa (obviously if you are a South Indian food fan) but also if you are not a fan it's the best place! You will really adore each and every dish. The location is offbeat and the ambience and the cosyness gives you a feel that you are at your grandmother's house. Sol Kadi is a MUST TRY. It's the most delicious thing in the world. Loved everything about this place!
Nice little place surrounded by greenery. Courteous and friendly staff. Absolutely delicious food. Truly authentic. Reasonably priced. It's a win win. Highly recommended
Great place, great service, good food. Love the cocktails!I recommend Kerala Mutton with steam rice/Appam.Also has Madras chicken, though the dish was flavour full but the chicken was dry and chewy.
A cozy restaurant with artsy themed decor displaying handmade crafts. A very relaxed and calm place in Assagao. The food was of good quality and the quantity served was correct however the menu was limited. The beverages served were quite refreshing and suitable to the climate. The service staff was very polite and quick.Do try their malabar parotha and their sol kadhi.
Good food. Great ambience, calm and cool environments, good food for value
What a place!! Being a malayalee I was really keen on trying out this place and it turned out to be like wow. I had the kozhi fry(chicken fry) , Andhra prawns masala, appam, tamarind rice , beef fry. Everything was just yumm and class apart. It was fresh and juicy . A must visit :) the staff is very polite and courteous as well.
Loved loved loved the place :)
The food is fabulous so as the Drinks :) the Bartender was kind enough to make a Hot Toddy, not being on the regular menu card.
Just make sure to make a reservation beforehand as the place shuts the outside porch area during monsoon, and it might lead to longer waiting time close to 45mins to an hour.
Superb Food . . . Lovely Ambience . . . !!
Visited the place on 07 Sep 19 and ordered Appam, Egg Appam, Dosai, Guntur Gunpowder, South Indian Filter Coffee, Cheera Moru Curry, Lemon Rice, Kainakary Vegetable Stew etc . . .
Ambience – Deserves full 5 Stars . . . ! Rustic, amidst natural covers, wooden seating arrangement, at two locations, cotton lamps and hanging show pieces, mildly lit, kettle decorations . . . Over all, very neat, clean and comfy outlook, a place where you’d want to spend hours. ..! Lots of selfie, static, nature photo points. Don’t miss visiting the garden, outhouse seating and though slightly expensive, the in-house shop selling variety of interesting stuff.
Food – Very tasty, very authentic. Served in appetising manner as well. Appams are like ‘ . . . Ek se mera kya hoga . . !’ Cheera Moru curry was never heard off, hence, experimented . .. had awesome taste of spinach !! Filter coffee on a rainy day was brilliant ! Guntur gunpowder was nothing special, having tasted Andhra gunpowder. Dosai was very well prepared. Kainakary is the standard stew with appam, well made. Only flip side was – Quantity ! For the rates of items, I think, quantity was very thin.
Service – It was standard run-a-mill thing, nothing extra-ordinary. Though they were courteous, they didn’t really ‘sell’ the items on menu. Neat and clean bathroom and curious cutleries made for a time to spend with yourself.
Definitely, worth a 2nd trip . . !
Instagram worthy. A good place for unique drinks and ambience.
The breads were cooked to perfection, but the meats and curries could've definitely taken on more spice, the kerala based food doesnt adhere to indian tastes.
Overall, a must visit.
Heard a lot about this place but could not go earlier. Finally today was the day to pay a visit. Nice place in a rustic setting in an old Portuguese house combined with a boutique. Had lunch with family, food was good, a bit spicy for our tongues.service was quick and good. Good experience overall.
What AN ABSOLUTE LEGEND of a place.
To get that authentic South style food in Goa was quite unbelievable.
Loved the place which was inside a Goan house and we sat in the backyard so it looked really lush.
What we loved:
-Soondal
-Andhra Prawn Curry (⭐) dish
-Appams
-Dosai
-Kainakary Veg Curry
Basically everything we ordered was outstanding. One of my best meals in Goa. Their cocktails are pretty amazing too. They have a fully stocked bar which I am sure serves up some smashing drinks.
Service and prices were very nominal.
Such a gem of a place! I don't know why it took me SO LONG to eat here, but I'm glad I finally did!
I tried the Andhra Spicy Prawns - not as spicy as I'd have imagined, and the batter had more flavour than the prawns, which were a tad bland and needed salt. The bed of beautifully caramelized onions that the prawns came on were addictive.
Also tried the Masala Potatoes, seeing as how every table had a portion of it. I will skip it next time, nothing to write home about, especially since there are better looking options on the menu.
Mutton Curry was the bomb! So darn delish and a definite must have! Flavourful yet mild, the curry was finger licking good and the mutton pieces were generous and perfectly done! I didn't try dessert, but I will be back for more!
The ambience was pleasant and lively. Talking about food we had-
1.Pompret fry - (5/5) i have to say the pompret was delicious and cooked really well, the taste was amazing.
2.Prawns mappas with appam and malabar parotta- (4/5) - Prawns were good and the curry was tasty. Appam were soft and parota was also good.
3.Dark chocolate ganache: It was well textured and smooth. A perfect desert after lunch.
Visited on Sunday lunch. It was rush and lot of people. Table allotted after 10 min. Nice ambinece and seating. Ordered potato strew and thoran along with appam and paortha. Taste was excelent. Ordered tamarind rice which was tasty.must visit restaurant in Goa.
Finally visited the much in demand place- had mutton pepper fry and appam. The mutton pepper fry is unlike anything I have tasted earlier and it is to die for ( I could have eaten my fingers along with the curry too) and appam to go along with it! Absolutely recommended!
This place features an authentic South Indian cuisine with more than the usual idlis and dosas. We ordered their most popular kainakary vegetable curry and relished it! Paired with Malabar parotta it was definitely a great combination. Also must try: appam and their guntur gunpowder.
Lemon rice was a bit of a disappointment. But overall, must visit!

Each n every curry tasted differently. We were extremely satisfied with the food .... Guys if u are in Goa don't miss this place.
The prawns are to die for. Not a seafood fan but every dish I had here was very tasty. The best part about this place is the colorful ambience. Worth visiting :)
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here - so much so that in our 4 day stay in Goa we ate here 3 times. The food is absolutely delicious and the setting is lovely. Service was good. Definitely worth a visit, or a mission here while in Goa.
Wattaplace....loved it...best appams n drinks ...each drink v had was wow ....tamarind with pineapple wow...sol curry was divine....great bar..the best collection in Goa...super efficient staff....great ambience....wow stuff at the store ...a must mast place to go 2
Had Kerela style prawns there along with mutton gravy and egg appam / appam and it didn’t disappoint. Perfect place for foodies. Rush is the only issue but it’s worth waiting !!! One more in must visit list. Slightly expensive though but.. its ok as long as the food is good ☺️
Went there night before, I ordered kaniakari, Avial, prawn curry and beef chilli fry..with appams and parathas ... each of the preparations were a delight...the ambience had a positive vibe to it ...the overall feel was excellent!
Great Place to have a peaceful and tasty food. It's in the midst of trees with the entire place supported by trees which makes it even better. Loved the Food, ambience and great service. This is one of the best eateries out there in Goa
This place is undeniably cute. The staff was courteous and the food was out of this world. We ordered the watermelon coconut cooler & basil pineapple lemonade which were so refreshing.
Starters - Andhra spicy prawns that were cooked just right with caramelised onions.
Main course - Egg appam & Madras chicken curry which was the highlight, the chicken was cooked to perfection and this combination was perfect.
Highly recommend reserving a table before you go!
I love this Place ! Every time I visit Goa I make sure to eat Here. The Ambience is outdoor and very good. The food is delicious. We ordered for Prawns , which were delectable. My Ultimate Favourite here is the Appam , they really do melt in your mouth. Rest of the cuisine is really good too. Alcohol is very decently priced! Must must Visit !

LiL over priced but it’s absolutely gives the remarkable quality stuffs! If you are foodie then it is must visit! The ambience is an add up! You need to book the table before you go as the place is in high demand! We had ordered beef chilly and Calamari- it was a Slurpp! Yummy! Add up in your bucket list!
Gun powder was one of the highlights of my Goa trip. A special shout to the special of the day Jamun drink and the regular on their menu Mango Pachdi. The Fish Curry, pomfret fry we're also nice. A would recommend Gun Powder highly!
Amazing food. We’d ordered a range of dishes like Kerala style beef curry, Andhra style prawns curry, mango pachadi, Malabar parotas and a few drinks. The pachadi was really smooth and tasty. All of the other dishes had delicate and yummy taste☺️ and loved the ambience although it was very hot on the day we visited . There was enough ventilation. Would love to visit again.
Love the ambience and the food alot❤️❤️❤️. It’s a bit isolated but it’s worth a try. I would visit this restaurant whenever I am in Goa🧡🧡.
Love the ambience and staff was so pleasant and helpful.
Food was got of the world.
It is not a typical south Indian place where you get idlli dosa.
It a a authentic manglorian restaurant- where you get uppam , lemon rice , veg in coconut milk and lasuni lentils and palak curry. Do not miss out of gunpowder chutney.
*** Very important- reserve you table before hand. You may not get a table as a walking most of the times.
It was just a casual Sunday though of some chill place. Could not think of a better place then Gunpowder. Started of with some cocktails and lined up directly with main course as we were really hungry 😋 very much satisfied with the perfectly cooked promfret and srilankan curry with some stem rice ,would like to go there again and the ambiance is so beautiful very creative.
Going through the interior streets of Goa with a great view of coconut trees on both the sides of the roads, we reached Gunpowder and the location was peaceful ☮️ and soothing.
Prawns Masala and Egg Appam were really up to the mark with some mocktail drinks and wine for the company.
If only I'd give more stars than 5 to this restaurant!
Appam & Kerela curry is always worth living for! And the Pork chops... I'm out of words to compliment this place.
It's was amazing back in Hauz khas village, Delhi & it's super amazing in Goa. One of my main charm for visiting Goa. We ended our trip here & is totally worth concluding an amazing trip here. The open ambience and super polite stuff added stars to our experience.
If you are looking for some boho, upscale decor and some shopping experience on the side and some remarkable south Indian dishes with a twist, you have arrived. Gunpowder Goa has carved a niche for itself. I enjoyed their desserts, the colorful ceiling hangings and also shopped at a store located in the premise. The vibe was mothing short of incredible.
What a lovely place this turned out to be.The decor was so colourful with technicolor flags hung from trees. All my photographs looked like paintings. After the usual rounds of beer we went straight into the main course.
I sometimes like to focus on only a one course meal .Today was one of those days.
I ordered a vegetable curry in a coconut sauce and an appam to go with that.
It was one appam after another.
Heavenly.
All of us had different one course meals and all of us found it heavenly.
The place is beautifuly decorated. The food is fresh, well prepared and flavourful. I tried most of the vegetarian dishes and sides and they were all delicious. The service is great as well.
one of the best restaurant in goa. cocktails are very good . ambience very good . andhra prawns curry with appams very very good . south goa rogers restaurant also has similar taste . north goa best food and ambience .service gunpowder .south goa rogers . these two restaurants has quality of food and service .
After reading positive reviews of this restaurant, my kids, wife and I visited the restaurant day before yesterday after booking a table.
Immediately on entering we were shown to a table.
This restaurant is a little gem in Goa. It does superb Indian vegetarian food, mainly from south India. The service is fast, the waiters are friendly and cheerful, the food is lovely...
Especially the gun powder masala with oil, that was served by them was really awesome....
Extremely beautiful and colorful place with a lot of greenery. The food was delicious and the drinks were very refreshing. Could not visit the place on the weekend as it was completely full.
We ordered appam, dosai, kainakary vegetable curry, spicy potatoes and a couple of drinks. All of these were amazing. Highly recommend this place for a visit.
Gunpowder welcomes you with a colourful vibe which sets your mood right.
The restaurant is set in an old portuguese house surrounded with lush greenery.
Flavourful food, delicious cocktails & warm service. Truly an unforgettable experience.
Going to Gunpowder without a reservation was a happy accident! Our hour-long wait for a table drove us to the bar, where we fell in love with the craft cocktails. I'm still dreaming about the watermelon swizzle. I've got a soft spot for South Indian food and Gunpowder's appams, dosai and veggie curries left me seeing hearts. Gunpowder is a definite must-do in Goa.
Have been here twice, I love the property. Cocktails are delicious, food has that extra touch that makes it worth a second round. Go for the aloo, prawn curry, beef fry and appam!
I used to visit Gunpowder when it was based in Delhi some years ago. It was a great detriment to the city when Gunpower relocated to Goa, but my long-awaited return definitely brought up fond memories of the restaurant. I was able to get a lunch reservation despite the crowd, my friend and I settling on drinks as we awaited our meal. My friend had a beer while I had the classic cazulo made with feni. The cocktail was well mixed, the mint and bitters subduing the strength of the feni. For lunch, we had the avial with the prawns mappas. We each had Malabar parottas as well as appams, which were made to order. The avial was by far some of the best I've ever had, the coconut and yogurt perfectly mixed with vegetables. The prawns were large, the curry flavorful. This was by far my most memorable meal in Goa, and I can attest that this was well worth my long-awaited return!
Gunpowder welcomes you with a ceiling full of colourful decoratives and the gorgeous dim lighting from the lamp shades just sets your mood right. We started off with jungle nut cocktail - an alluring coconut feni based drink, and watermelon-coconut cooler. For appetisers, we had Andhra masala prawns - an ecstatic treat for seafood lovers. For mains, we went with madras chicken curry, tamarind rice, appam and Malabar paratha. All of which was cooked to perfection. With a courteous staff and prompt service, this place is highly recommended for those who want an authentic taste of South Indian cuisine. Be sure to reserve a table in advance as the place is always packed. Also, watch out for the heavy taxes.
Goa is a foodie's heaven. You can have breakfast, lunch and dinner in 3 different restaurants and still be amazed and surprised by each one of them. It seems they are always in a constant competition to surpass themselves. Hence, to assign a single restaurant to be the absolute best seems a tiresome work. But Gunpowder made that look so easy.
We had heard about Gunpowder before but never thought of giving it a shot. How we ended up there involves a lot of confusion and haphazard planning. But we went there, and from the first minute we felt the vibe. Whether it was the ambience or the food, I can't decide yet, but heavenly may be the word to describe it.
Squid rings, Pandhi curry, Kerala beef curry accompanied by steamed or lemon rice along with dessert of the day just made our day.
Gunpowder is a must visit to someone visiting North Goa. I think it is as essential as the Chapora fort, you should not miss it.
Yummiest South Indian food I've ever had. Their malabar paratha is to die for, not kidding at all. If you are planning a trip to Goa, you must note this place in your inventory. The Outdoor ambience is really beautiful.
They have a limited menu but it's quite enjoyable. Everything we ordered including the veg options were very authentic. I want expecting to find this quality of Kerala cuisine in Goa.
Service is prompt and the food and drinks are top notch.
Definitely a must visit.
Make reservations before you go as the place tends to get crowded.
I don't have a vocabulary of superlatives adequate enough to describe this place.
The ambiance is beautiful. So colourful and sets such a great mood.
We tried a few cocktails, the dushkri kappi and jungle nut in particular were fantastic.
The food was really really great. The andhra masala prawns (starter), squid stir fry (starter), pork ribs (starter) malabar parotta, prawn mappas curry and pork idukki curry take special mention. The parotta in particular was amazing.
The mango panna cotta and walnut brownie were a great way to wrap up a meal.
If I was to point out something that could improve, it would be the service. It wasn't sharp and the waiters needed reminding on a couple of our orders.
Also I didn't like how the filter coffee was served. The milk was given separately which isn't how I would prefer it.
Overall, superb experience.
As soon as I entered this place I felt so relaxed and happy. The ambience is perfect with trees all around.
For drinks I ordered Goan cocktail which was a cocktail made on fenne it was fire fly and wow after I drank it was enough to feel like im drunk.Other one was watermelon Coconut mocktail which also tasted superb.
For food I ordered tamrind fish curry with appam and steamed rice.
This was the first time I tried appam and to my surprise I loved eating it.It's a must try of you are at this place.

Have been living in Gurgaon since a couple of months and happened to visit this restaurant after a recommendation from my bosses. Absolute delight that night watching us all hog the original, authentic South India delicacies.
A well assorted menu from Andhra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. Gunpowder, Appam, Dal and Rice are a must try.
Peaceful and pretty ambience with a cultural center for spending a quick buck.
Brilliant idduki pork curry and andhra prawn chilli.and the egg appam.. been here sm tym back and dun remember all the things I ate. Luv the ambience.
Went with a lot of expectation. However, it was too crowded and wasn't worth the waiting. Though the menu had good range, the service was unfriendly, chaotic, as well the food taste didn't match to the price and expectations. Parking was difficult, forced to park at alternate hilly terrain, no valet parking. Ambience was congested, and the decor confusing, pedestrian for the price. Tried kappa vada (innovative), kozhi sukka (could have been better), ennai kathirakai with lemon rice, appam and stew. The tamarind mocktail, though innovative could have been better.
Lovely Little Place, got a nice feel to it. service is prompt, the food served is southern Indian style, with lots of authentic veg options along with chicken/Meats & plenty of seafood.Enjoyed the Avial & Tamarind fish curry the most.Good place for lunch if you are in mood for some South Indian delicacies. (Make sure to pre book your tables in advance).
Came here for my partner's birthday and it was a wonderful experience. Food was delicious and creative while being reasonably priced. There are good vegetarian options and staff were very friendly throughout our meal. The place is also beautiful and you can take nice pictures. I particularly liked the masala chai crème brulee which came on a Parle G biscuit base!
We drove over an hour from South Goa to try this place out. There's ample parking in the back. It's an old home converted into an upscale south indian restaurant. The greenery around the property and their patios are large part of the appeal along with amazing south Indian delicacies. Take your time with the menu if youre not familiar with south Indian food names. There are proper descriptions under each food item and the staff can provide recommendations that suit your pallete.
For cocktails we ordered the vodka lemonade and tamarind margarita. Lemonade was very refreshing. Margarita was average.
We really enjoyed their mutton pepper varattu and also Kori sukka (chicken). The masala in both the dishes was best paired with their Malabar parotta made fresh to order. Appam was also nice. For mains, we order the Royyala Pulusu (Andhra Prawn Curry). It was delicious and fresh. We could see the fresh tomatoes in the curry. This was also best paired with their parotta. We also ordered their coconut mint chutney, which was very unique and tasted refreshing, as well as the gunpowder masala. It was decent.
They have new desserts that are not on the menu. We tried the masala chai biscuit creme brulee as it sounded the most interesting. It was very well made.
Overall, a great experience!
The food taste is awesome here. Especially the South Indian dishes like potato fry, pomfret pollichathu, appam. Plenty of Kerala recipes available on the menu.
The service people are awesome with wonderful hospitality.
Their trademark beers are also available. Especially the Gunpowder ale. 🍺
Parking available but not suitable for physically challenged. Washrooms are good and clean.
Good south Indian variety of food.. service is at its best.
Great ambiance, homely and portuguese feel to it, specially
seating in balcao.
We went here during our stay at Assagao and it's one of the most recommended restaurants in the area. It lives up to it's reputation. The menu is beautifully designed to give you a taste of Goan/ Coastal food. You can enjoy the taste of coconuts, cashews and a variety of spices through their dishes. The deserts are simple yet beautifully made to please your pallete! The outdoor ambience is very pleasant, especially at night. The staff is also very accommodating. It wasn't crowded when we went, but being a popular destination, it's recommended to have a booking. A must visit for your stay in North Goa!
Food is good, but very less vegetarian options.
The place looks heavenly, very quaint and peaceful. Loved it.
Visited Gunpowder today and it was a lovely experience mainly because of the staff. My husband and I had gone there with our pet dog (a nervous Indie who struggles to feel okay in social spaces). But, they provided us a mat for her to sit on and they also offered to walk her while we ate (although Luna made sure that didn’t happen, but that’s besides the point). The food - pandi curry, prawn mappas and appams - were really nice! Really. So happy we went there for lunch :)
We came here for lunch and loved everything
Make sure you call and make a booking before you arrive as they usually have waiting
It's a great place that serves amazing mango beer and cocktails
The food was amazing too
Loved the veg specially
They have a very nice outdoor sitting too
Would love to re-visit
