Everyone who has visited or wishes to visit Auroville, knows of this place. Its on the way to Auroville. We had to go there too.
Here’s what we had-
Amod – had a grilled fish. The portion was humungous ! served in a tray ! This was served with a fresh citrus, basil salad and some house fries.
We shared a Romana Pizza.
We ordered for French Onion Soup and a Minestrone Soup and a Focaccia bread ( Typically European style, which we rarely get to eat here )
We had a Raspberry Pannacotta which according to me was flawless!
Food was outstanding! Flavours, portions, service everything was outstanding.
Its completely operated by women employees.
We paid approx. 2000 Rs. for the above.

An excellent Pizzeria. The vibe to the place is so soothing, with an outdoor seating amidst the nature. No wonder it's packed all time. We visited Tanto Pizza on our way to Auroville and had the tastiest wood fire, thin crust pizza. You can customize your toppings and we chose a rather offbeat combination : Bacon, with green apples. We were sceptical about our choice, but went with it, given the popularity of the place in terms of taste. Ofcourse, it turned out to be good. The service was also quite prompt.
Best pizza we've had in a real long time! The calamari with lemon sauce was GORGEOUS! The ice teas are a must have! Can't wait to come back one day :))
Food was good, service was really really slow. At night, there were places where no light was really dim.

One of the most popular places in Auroville, Tanto has to be on your list of restaurants to visit. The informal outdoor seating gives a very relaxed and chilled vibes. During my visit I tried their Fantasy Pizza, Fish Salad and Strawberry Sorbet. The pizza and the sorbet were mouth watering and absolutely delicious. The fish salad was a little bit of a let down. The bones were still present so it was a little unexpected. But overall had a great time here.

Tanto has been my favorite place to eat in Pondicherry for the past 7-8 years.... The wood fired pizza with fresh and authentic ingredients native to Italy are what makes us go back again and again...
After a rather long quest for antique furniture in Pondicherry, we decided to fill ourselves before we proceeded any further....
The place was packed with tourists when we arrived, but we luckily got seated in the only table available....
We decided to order directly from the main course....
We ordered a Ravioli sautéed in Butter and Sage sauce...
We were confused as to what filling we’d want in our ravioli and so the lady that took our order gave us the option of going half and half... Basically we ordered a ravioli dish with 4 filled with spinach and feta cheese and the remaining 4 filled with ricotta cheese....
We also ordered a large pizza which we also asked to make it in half and half, so that we wouldn’t restrict our taste buds....So half the pizza we ordered was Mediterranean and the other half was Italian....
The Ravioli came first.... The dish was huge in terms of portion size... The Raviolis just melted in our mouth... Personally I loved the Ricotta cheese filled ravioli... But then with so much cheese, the spinach cheese filled ones helped balance the others out...
An amazing dish and one I would love to order again when I visit there...
We usually order the Mediterranean pizza and it’s one of our favorite variety as it comes topped with Fresh basil, olives and other fresh Mediterranean ingredients...
My husband opted for the Italian because he loves Rocket leaves...
We hardly find places that serve pizza, salads and pasta with fresh Rocket or Arugula leaves....
Our only cause of disappointment was with regard to the feta cheese on top the Mediterranean pizza, which could have been spread more evenly instead of being clumped on one end....
We also ordered Carrot and Orange juice to go with our meal... It was freshly pressed and tasted amazing....

Simple, basic pizza, with just cheese. Toppings would have added flavours but I wanted to taste the cheese and the base. It was amazing and fresh.
Tanto pizza is one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Nice seating area with the perfect location and on the main road of auroville. Margarita is the best choice ever with the best chillers they have.

As usual the best pizza and best continental foods of pondicherry. I love their all the menu and this outlet is having a awesome ambience. Each trip to pondicherry never ends with Tanto.
I just love this place. I have been here twice and this place is so authentic. This place is run by an Italian and you just feel the italian presence when you eat their food. The Brick oven pizzas are awesome and the quantity is so good. The cheese used here is imported and you can feel the change in the taste of cheese.
We also tried the Italian salad with Buffalo Cheese which wasn’t that great to be honest. However Pizzas and Garlic bread here are a big yes Yes. Must try if you visit Pondicherry sometime.
Loved the place and the ambience. They have the tables in the garden. The pizzas are amazing. Must try- Chicken Pepperoni Pizza. Do try the French Fries Pizza if you are crazy for French Fries.

Place was crowded. Ambiance was quite good. However as it's an open place there were quite a few insects roaming and sitting on plates questioned the hygiene! Seafood spaghetti was really tasty along with the iced tea. However they delayed the service for a long. Overall experience I would rate 3.5/5

It is a Beautiful place to go out with a bunch of friends. We had ordered for pizzas and pastas. Thin crust pizzas are delicious. The place gives a good vibe.
This is a nice cozy outdoor pizzeria with other continental cuisines. The watermelon salad was fresh and authentic. The other food items were good but I would recommend the ice tea along with the freshly baked pizzas.
Been here twice, both in the evenings. They have a candlelight setup at one section. The pizzas are good, wood-fired crust pizza. The ice teas are good too. We absolutely loved their desserts, gelatin and custard. Must try. Lasagna could have been better though.

I had one thin crust cheese pizza and white sauce pasta. I love pizza the most... Pasta quantity is so much that I was not able to eat.
In dessert I had strawberry cheesecake mouth melting, so pure in love with the cheese cake if you're visiting this place it's a must try.

I had heard about this Pizzeria through a close friend. I found their food great their service was fast. I would recommend this place to everyone who loves pizza and ice tea.
It was my 7th or 8th time at Tanto but writing reviews first time just to let know people about one of the best cafes in Auroville as well as in Pondicherry. Whenever you go try chicken masala pizza for sure and Iced tea pitcher is my all time favorite.
We have always loved this place..be it for it's ambience..be it for the classic Italian food..be it for the way the pizzas are prepared and put under the big oven...we are fans of margherita pizza and that is what we order each time..the freshness of the tomatoes..the flavour imparted by the basil leaves..the thin crust getting the lightly burnt flavour from the oven..it just smells..looks and tastes delicious..this time we also ordered pomodoro..the tangy tomato vegetarian spaghetti was just apt for the day..the ice tea bottle was the saviour in the hot afternoons of pondicherry..Tantos a must visit place..on the way back from auroville..

A large outdoor restaurant with a simple setting and a variety of options on the menu on veg/non veg
The menu was widespread across appetizers, starters, pastas, pizzas, main course and etc etc.
We started with a creamy tomato soup which was very creamy, followed by masala chicken pizza and shrimp pasta which were all served hot and delicious.
The pizza is a spicy Indian fusion and it was worth every bite, a medium would definitely serve 2-3. The shrimp pasta came with a lot of filling and would definitely serve 2. Since it was only two of us and we were already filled by the serving we couldn't try out more options on the dessert. Too sad we couldn't try out the lobster.
The service took a little more time than usual but it was understandable since there were too many ppl to serve. The quantity of the servings were worth the price.
Anyone visiting Auroville can drop in here for a sumptuous lunch.

Pizzas and pastas are all that I long for here. Olive pizzas with mushrooms customized as per your choice . All toppings are amazing. Do try basil also. Vijay the chef is perhaps the best wood fired pizza maker I have ever tried. Lasagne is amazingly cheesey. This place is love. Never miss eating here if in pondy.
Awesome food best was pork pepperoni pizza and beef roast pizza. The chicken pasta in mushroom sauce was amazing. Chicken masala pizza is spicy and seafood dish was okay. Sipping fresh lime soda was a delight, which service and worth a meal.
This is a large open restaurant with real greenery, simple set of chairs and tables with fans, don't expect AC.
All that mattered was the yummiest seafood soup i had here. It had shrimps, tomato and cheese taste. I got one by two and i must say the soup was thick and tummy filling. Next i asked for a grilles fish in main course. This came with french fries, salad- tomatoes and cabbage in olive oil, and the fish tasted like just boiled, so we asked them to get it a little fried/grilled. Not sure what kind of fish it was, the chef informed it should be eaten like that just boiled and semi grilled. While we being Indian's couldn't eat it that way and since they couldn't do want we wanted they asked us not to pay for it. That's was really so kind of them. Isn't it?
Lastly we went ahead with the Tiramisu, and that tasted good fresh and completely home made.
You can surely visit this place and no doubt you will enjoy whatever you order as their service is great!

It's a lovely and friendly shack restaurant on the way to Auroville Ashram. They make lovely Iced Tea. I ended up taking a bottle as a take-away. The Pizzas and the Foccasia bread is baked in wood fired ovens and gives an amazing flavour to its delicacies.
The staff is friendly and accommodates your request as much as possible. The only down side is that considering it's on the road side, it has quite number of mosquitos and during rainy seasons you're also likely to find those flying ants flocking around the lights. You might thus end up having your food in the light coming from a distant source.
Yet, considering the cleanliness of the kitchen and the area around the oven, the preparation Seema hygienic. Overall a good place.
Spent a lovely evening relaxing at Tanto's on my visit to Auroville. Tried some amazing dishes... definitely floored by the chocolate cake. Unfortunately they didn't have the calamari nor the oven fish hence we settled for grilled fish & glazed mahi mahi. While the grilled fish was juicy and full of flavours..glazed mahi mahi was rather disappointing...too much soy and borderline bitter. Then there was the pepperoni pizza and watermelon-feta cheese salad. We washed it all down with freshly brewed coffee. All in all a good experience. They could improve on the service though...

Had been here while on a short trip to Pondicherry. A lot of people who were either from here or had been to Pondicherry before, recommended this place to us, and needless to say it was completely worth the hype.
Good amount of seating available, Parking too, right beside the outlet. Ambience can be worked upon a bit, but is not really an issue. Huge variety when it came to pizzas, both veg and non-veg. Extra toppings are chargeable, and the entire meal can be a little hefty on your pocket but the delectable pizzas are totally worth the money.
Definitely recommend this, and would love to go back here! If only they had a Bangalore outlet!

It's a roadside cafe which serves delicious pizzas.
Went there for dinner, ambience was cosy and lovely. Ordered pizzas and lemon soda. Everything was tasty.
There's also a small souvenir shop inside the cafe which sells aromatic candles and handmade books from auroville.
Overall it's a beautiful experience.
It's 10mins from Matri Mandir auroville . It's a roadside cafe serving very tasty pizzas and pastas . It's a must try in auroville . It closes at 3pm in noon and reopens around 6.30pm so be sure to reach there on time as their last order will be 15-20 mins before closing time.
Tantos was super duper crowded and we were thankful we found a place. We walked into tantos as starved vampires and ordered a plate of fries before our food arrived. I am a little fussy about my fried coz I like them crispy but not too oily, the tantos fries were perfect. We were a little apprehensive about the chicken pizza options so we took a vegetarian Mediterranean pizza and added the extra topping on chicken on it. That pizza had a lot of vegetables and the crust was not too crispy like a papas but perfect for the pizza. The pizza didn’t disappoint at all. We also tried their chicken and mushroom penne pasta which was really creamy and tasted as wonderful as it looked. We washed all this heavenly Italian food with ice tea which was as refreshing as it looked.

The food here tastes good and fresh. Had ordered spicy pizza - 4.5/5, Mediterranean pasta in white sauce - 5/5 and tiramisu - 2/5. Tiramisu was a total disappointment. It was pricy and tasted wierd and very off from authentic. Pasta and pizza were very good value for money. The ambience and cleanliness may not be appealing to many.

This place has some of the best pizzas in town. We had their earth pizza which was delicious. We also tried one of their salads with rocket leaves this time which was really good too. Their signature iced tea is definitely a must try!

Located on the Auroville road, this place is hard to miss. Run by this Italian chef, the pizzas and pastas are a treat. Moreover it was fun seeing them toss the dough in the air, just like pizzerias in streets of Italy. We had the thin crust pepperoni pizza, a chicken Bolognese spaghetti and watermelon juice. Both the dishes were outstanding and specially the spaghetti overloaded with the chicken sauce. Though the place is crowded but they are quick and serve you well. And if you here do pick up their handmade pastas at Rs 100 a pack

This is magical place to dine at. Be it day or night. Nestled amidst trees, it's right opposite to the much famed Bread and Chocolate bakery. We were taking a walk down the Auroville Street and couldn't help but be drawn towards the soft amber glow from the candle lit tables, hushed murmur of satisfied diners and the aroma of freshly baked pizzas out from the wood fire oven.
So we drop in here to have our meals. Not once but twice consecutively. We ordered for the shrimp spaghetti pasta and a Regina pizza and both of them were mind blowing.
The pasta was simple but tasty. It was on a bed of fresh tomato puree and filled with shrimps and olive oil. My favorite combination. And then the pizza was baked to perfection. The crust was neither too thick nor too thin and had generous amount of cheese drizzled over with bits of mushrooms and chicken ham.
Alas, we didn't have space for desserts. But I'm sure they would've been equally awesome!

Best woodfried pizzas ever eaten by me ... at least in south India.. ordered masala chicken, spinach and feta and Mediterranean pizza..best of the lot being spinach and feta for me... toppings were fresh and olives just made this right.. chicken pizza was amazing too with green pepper..tandoored and full of masala..Mediterranean pizza was a mix of all veggies, olives, onions, tomato's etc... overall a Fab experience!! Best restaurant for a delicious mouth watering Pizza. Taste was so good but you should have patience to wait for long time if you go on a weekend or during holiday times. The location is easily accessible and they have variety of Pizzas to choose apart from very good starters. Ice tea drink which i ordered was so delicious.

The best pizza I have ever had in my life... Near Auroville , the place has got good vibes and great service from the staff. We can even customise our toppings or any other preferences. The taste of original Firewood pizza is something which cannot be described in words. We tried their Chicken Masala Pizza and it was the best.
This place has such a nice vibe, the ambiance is also so good. The staff were so supportive. The pizzas here are so amazing specially the Truffle Pizza❤️😋, it’s a must try. We ordered so many pizzas but truffle pizza was all of ours favourite. The place has such a cozy vibe.
There is a shop attached to it so if you have time do visit that shop for some cute earrings and mugs. There are other things also to have a look.

Pizzas are here amazing cooked under wood fire. Tried Sea Golden pizza it was out of the world too good. Ordered Sea Golden, Masala Chicken Pizzas and Chicken Lasgane. Other than that they have variety of Salads, Soups, Pizzas. Have there own parking and ambience is okay. Only issue is there are too many mosquitoes.
We visited Tanto Pizzeria in Auroville. We had a very nice experience. I would say the food is a little expensive but the quantity is balanced with the price. The day we visited there was a huge crowd and the staff wasn't able to manage the crowd. Waiting time 30 -45 minutes.

I had the best pizza in my life. The perfect crust and good amount of cheese and loaded with toppings. Tried creamy pasta as well which was okayish. But i would love to visit this place again just for its pizza. I've read comments about flies. But when i visited i didn't face any such problems of flies and the dogs were minding their own business. So if you love pizza. It's a must try.
