Very good ambiance and a lovely place to have #Sushi in #Auroville restaurant.
Congratulation Ravi! :)
Just tried it for first time and tried the icecold refreshing homemade lemonade and took home the green peas hummus and tofu mushrooms. And got addicted - super yummy, natural (no added flavours or so) and good prices! Keep it up guys, Ill come back soon for sushi!
We went their today. My husband and I tried their kimchi avacado sushi, marinated tofu avacado spring onion sushi, dried tomato pesto sushi. The sushis were all great, the seaweed around it was yummy and the ingredients inside fresh. The rice was also delicious.
Besides this, we tried the Wakame salad, which ny husband did not like much and I loved. It has a slightly pungent taste which might not be to everyone’s liking.
The iced tea was delicious.
I loved the ambience of the place. The tatami mats make it a very cozy nook - will definitely return with a book to read on a quiet day.
The staff was very polite and the music was relaxing!
I would definitely recommend the place.
A Cozy little place in Auroville. You won’t be disappointed by the Sushi served here. We ordered a Maki Sushi and it was authentic. The Pannacotta was delicious. The owner and his team are really friendly. Definitely worth having a bite here.
A very cute little place. Music is nice and soothing, ambience is very calming. Sushi is super good and super tasty!! Try the Shrimps fried sushi Inside out. It's one of the best I've had till now.
This is a cozy little sushi bar amongst the greens of Auroville. The sushi here was authentic and delicious. Nice non-veg sushi is common but succulent veg sushi is hard to find. This place offers a serene ambience with most appetizing authentic sushi ever tasted.
Yum and delightful sushi ....though very less portion for a hungry stomach..ambience is quite calm and peaceful for one to have a beautiful evening amidst the lovely auroville
Sakura Sushi 🍣:
A Small Restaurant on Auroville road, this quaint little shop is run by a German Chef who's settled down in Auroville, sharing his talents in sushi to Aurovillians and Pondicherians alike.
Where: 📍 Next to Umbrella Travels, Auroville Main Road, Kottakupam, Auroville
Ambience 🛋️: The place is Small and a little Cramped for space, but has been decorated with subtle Japanese essence with the Traditional Tatami style seating and Sushi Bar High Chairs. The entire resto has a cozy atmosphere, making it an ideal place to kick back with a group of friends and make fun of each others chopstick skills.
Service 🤵: Service is Quick and Courteous. The owner and team are extremely kind and helpful.
What 🍜: You can Choose literally Anything on their Menu ( Since putting up this post, I've visited a whopping 3 Times) and not be disappointed by the taste.
Maybe not try the Tempeh (Soy Bean) Sushi though, it's not everyone's cup of tea.
1) Maki Sushi 🍣 ( Smoked Fish & Cucumber) (🌟5/5): 💸Rs 230/-
This was the show stopper. We order this every time and the type of fish changes every day based on the freshest produce available.
(If you have any seafood allergies, make sure to check what the fish of the day is before placing your order)
The sour flavour of rice vineger brings out the subtle sweet flavour of the sushi rice. The salted wrapped Nori (seaweed) adds to the umami flavours of this delectable sushi. And the smokiness of the smoked fish really push you through a rollercoaster of flavours. The crunch of the fresh cucumber glazed by the soy sauce and the hint of wasabi when dipped in their respective bowls makes you want to keep eating. This sushi is light and deeply flavourful.
2) Maki Sushi 🍣 ( Omlet/Tamago & French Onion) (🌟5/5) - 💸Rs 150/-
Soft fluffy egg and the sharp flavour of spring onion make this sushi just as excellent as the next. It was just a delight to have.
3) Zippa Pomegranate (🌟3.5/5): 💸 Rs 50/-
This is a fermented and Aerated beverage. It has very subtle and surprising notes of pomegranate and a natural sweetness from the fermentation. This was a great palate cleanser but might not be for everyone.
Each and every plate of Sushi is Served along with Chopsticks and a bowl of Wasabi and Soy Sauce.
Damage Done: 💸 Rs 440/-
Overall Verdict: (🌟5/5) Sakura sushi is Pondicherry's only Sushi and Japanese themed restaurant which is both Affordable by the masses and stays true to it's traditional flavour. It is an absolute treat just eating here and a wonderful experience over-all. The quantity and size may not be filling, but for the price and the quality it's an absolute steal hence: VFM 🔥
I'd definitely love to hear your opinions and experiences about the same! Do check it out ❤️

Simply the restaurant that made me fall for sushi. I had kimchi maki and it was delicious! Very nice and cosy place, with nice staff. We were also served very fast . Will definitly go back.
Not a typical japanese place though but still it's the only Japanese place in Pondi. The staffs were really friendly and I love the small set up of the place... They food was okay as compared to the sushi that I have ate before
Authentic sushi, very good taste , great ambience. Would definitely be a regular customer. Also the soya milk and cafe cola a great taste. Requesting to open another shop in the city .
Made it on the last day before the owners left on their summer holidays and was glad we did. The sun-dried tomatoes pesto sushi was absolutely delish. A neat and tidy place with fresh decor. Love the concept of using the same plate for the second order. Waste not want not.
Absolutely adored the ambience, the staff and the variety on the menu. As a vegetarian, I've come to worry that there aren't enough vegetarian options for sushi out there, but I was so impressed. My favourite was the Kimchi one. Definitely going to be a regular customer here :)
I straight away ordered sushi in a bowl as i have tasted sushi earlier and would say it is good but doesnt go with my taste cuz normally japanese food tend to be a bit sweeter( not everything) so if its your first time go and try sushi, the prices are quite okay for sushi thats the best part and ambience is cute. Staffs are very welcoming and warm if any doubts ask them they know best.
Very cozy looking place with a very friendly couple to serve you with a warm welcome. It's my first time trying sushi and I wasn't disappointed. The plating was pretty too and the taste was intriguing. It might not be for everyone but my expectations were satisfied. I tried both the prawn sushi and the fish. I liked the prawn better.
Food - I'm normally not a sushi eater, yet the sushi served here is really tasty and will suit most people. I would specially recommend the prawn, chicken and tuna nigiri. The prawn nigiri sushi was the best of the lot - completely fresh and perfectly synthesized with the other elements of the dish.
Price - The price deserves a special mention, as I was pleasantly astounded to find sushi at such reasonable rates, with price for one plate ranging from Rs. 120-190. I have had sushi twice before and both times it's was usually double this amount.
Service - Staff was very friendly and courteous. Our server went beyond her normal duties as a waiter adding a friendly atmosphere to the place. She politely indulged all out requests (there were many) without raising a fuss.
Decor - The place is extremely cute, with colourful walls incorporating elements of both Japanese and Western culture. The eye catching decor was one of the reasons we came here.
It’s a hidden gem! Find it in Auroville. Great Sushi at an economical price. Lovely place and great atmosphere. Head Chef (male) is sweet, understanding and makes great sushi rolls! It was an amazing experience overall. Please do keep it up!
I've been to many Japanese restaurants so I did have heavy expectations seeing the reviews around the place. The sushi was good but not as great as the ones you get in Chennai is how I'd put it. The service and politeness of the staff was excellent! Good ambience and we tried the boba as well
Quaint ambience wrapped with cozy vibe and lifted with chill music. The food is as authentic and a true delicacy as it can possibly be. Matcha tea was a cherry on top and perfect way to end the meal. Love the quick/efficient service and the friendly staff.
We tried different varieties of vegetarian sushi here. The grilled Brinjal and fried pumpkin nigiri sushi were really delicious. We also had mango boba tea here which was just ok. For dessert the panna cotta was really good. They also have Kajimba ginger ale available here.
The service was quick and the place has a really cozy vibe to it.
Firstly, it is an amazing cozy clean little place on the 1st floor. The music and lighting were both relaxing. But the most important thing - the food is absolutely fantastic. I had a good sushi after a long time. I was also startled to find they grow the rice in India itself which made me appreciate the sushi much more. The wasabi is top notch and they havent cut corners going by the punch it packed. I would have loved a more stronger pickled radish but that is the only thing I can point out for this perfect place. The summer rolls were very refreshing and I liked the fact that they didnt over dress it. After a hot day, this was a welcome relief. I am not a big fan of bubble tea but since the food was great, I gave it a try. It was refreshing and good. People who love bubble teas can try.
The food is AMAZING. The food is crafted with care and love and it shows. The taste the presentation is top notch. Amazing. And the Pannacotta is OUT OF THE WORLD AMAZING.
Best Place to have Sushi in Auroville. Extremely generous host. The place is worth every penny we tried couples of Veg and Non Veg Sushi's and they very delicious. What liked the most about this place was how clean, hygienic and comfy it was. Sushi Lovers a must must place to visit.
Must try spot for people in need to try out authentic Japanese cuisine at Pondi. Very polite staff. Great ambience. And to top it off, great food.
A good place with sushi in a very reasonable price. Sushi didn't feel very fresh and but taste was good. Boba tea was good too.
Good sushi. Good service. Really good tea with honey at the end. I wish the miso soup had more seaweed in it, but otherwise such a nice place! Happy we found it! Leaving the city soon, but this is a highlight of auroville for me😁❤️🤗
