A must visit place, very earthy, food is yummy
What a beautiful soulful place! Went on a Friday afternoon with friends. There’s a tiny board outside that is easy to
miss. Simple and rustic decor, the guy running the place Mr. Kishore (not the actor) was amazing in explaining the dishes available in detail. Simple menu, healthy options, but mind blowing taste! Go there if you want to eat healthy South Indian food, don’t expect anything too fancy except the crowd - We had foreigners sitting down and enjoying the food. There’s also a store attached to the place if you want to buy some fresh veggies and organic groceries.
For 2 people or 1 person the snacks portion will be large.
The food was good
Sumptuous food with great ambience that takes you back to your roots. Loved everything that they had to offer!
Hungry buffalo is best described as a beautiful experience. This is a malnad cuisine restaurant with ethically sourced ingredients from all over India. It can also be described as a farm to table restaurant. Idea of the restaurant is not to cater to masses but to quality. This is not a place for parties but for soulful food. Remember to respect the hosts and other guests and keep your volumes low and enjoy the experience. Take time to speak to Kishore and ask him about the story behind each dish, be ready to be surprised and in awe. Please do call them and make a reservation as this place is bound to be extremely busy very soon. Every dish (entree, main, drinks) is crafted and cooked to perfection. I would suggest you to try 1 of each dish and drink and make it a tasting menu :). Akki rotti here brought immense happiness. Ambience of the place is spellbinding.
If you love simple yet tasteful food and want to nourish not only your body but your soul as well, give this place a visit. I’m going again pretty soon.
Food: I especially recommend the Allspice tea which along with bullet kadubus was a perfect start to the meal. Next, we had the signature dishes – biksha bowl and chapati meal. We were bowled over by the whole toor daal and horse gram chutney served along with the meals. Plus, the aromatic organic ghee made everything even more appetizing. Towards the end, we were served a sweet coconut milk drink which was a welcome change from your run-of-the-mill desserts.
Ambience: The peaceful atmosphere of Hungry Buddha encouraged us to eat everything mindfully and enjoy every morsel. The place had an old-world charm about it – open courtyard, floor-seating, red tiled walls and floor – everything was so rustic and beautiful.
Cooking process: Swarupa, who is an amazing cook, has travelled the length and breadth of Karnataka to understand different local cuisines – from the simple food that farmers eat in the morning to rich festive delicacies. She and the other host, Madhur, educated us about their slow-cooking process. Everything was painstakingly cooked in either earthen pots or stoneware which lent a different flavour to each dish.
It is the most beautiful little cafe that serve tasty organic food fresh from farm. My friend suggested this place after her visit some months back and am glad she did.
We had biksha bowl, akki roti and bullet kadubus. Biksha bowl was my favourite. That would be the thing I'd prefer to eat everyday for lunch. So fresh and yum with a bowl of red rice and lots of veggies. Kishore there walked us through the menu and was such a great host to talk to.
Also I can vouch for the lemongrass drink and the all spices tea. A must visit place in Bangalore. !!
Ambience=4/5
Food=5/5
The papdi chat was just amazing along with kothimbir vada which is not fried but steamed one's.The akki rotis was very soft n hot served with pulse curry. Each dish was explained in detail even before ordering plus pet friendly:)
Beautiful and unique ambience.. it truly refreshes my mind, everytime i visit this place.. food is amazing. If you want to know how tasty can home made organic food be this is the place you should visit..
Loved the place. Ingredients used were so pure and natural , it just tasted awesome. Loved the ambience. Superb hospitality.
Very very highly recommended. Would love to visit again and again.
Absolutely fantastic!! Dont think twice - simply showup and enjoy a stellar gorgeous sumptious divine meal. Not to be missed. Im sure it’ll enjoy the experience.
An ancestral home converted into a small restaurant cum organic shop. Firstly the ambience was so welcoming. Such peaceful atmosphere with no sound of vehicular horns. Traditional Malnad food with twists were served. The menu keeps changing according to the availability of the vegetables and the season. One cold drink - Muga Udha made of green gram was delicious, had the flavour of khas khas payasam. One hot drink - masala drink (p.s. forgot the name?) Had multiple flavours was difficult to judge- served with beaten rice mix masala. Kothimbir vada was heavenly - served with sweet and spicy Purina chutney. Amminni kozhukottai - made with organic red rice was tasty. Finally for the main course we had bhiksha bowl - with organic red rice, salad, bhindi Sabzi, ginger pickle, Dal peas curry and drumstick leaf Sabzi. And Rotti meals - Red rice Rotti do was red in colour, but was yummy. Along with 2 sabzis.
Place feels rustic and nostalgic. Food tastes exceptionally great with only organic ingredients. Price is decent. Hospitality is very welcoming. Surely a place we will visit again.
A lovely cafe with old world charm tucked into a quiet street beside Madhavan Park in Jayanagar. They serve healthy and delicious organic food with love. We both loved all the dishes we ordered. The food is delightfully different and they stand out in their taste and authenticity. The hosts were excellent too and they are seriously passionate people who like to serve people with a smile.
Beautiful place tucked away in a quiet street in Jayanagar near Madhavan Park. it has a charming ambience with an open courtyard. They serve excellent organic food prepared with love and care.
The green gram drink Muga Udha was quite refreshing. To top it up, we had ammini kozhukkattai a traditional South Indian dish with a nice twist mixed with different podi flavors. We had Podi rice meal and chappathi meal. The meals were tasty and quite filling too. My husband who is not at all a fan of Radish loved the radish salad. The meal ended with a bowl of yummy payasam.
The food is served on banana leaf and clay plates and wooden spoons .
To top it all the place is run by passionate people 2 of whom we met - Swaroopa and Kishore were great caring hosts.
Absolutely recommended for a delightful experience .
Hungry Buffalo : Back to your Roots !
The name itself is so very intriguing ....
And here we were at this quaint, rustic cosy cafe in Jayanagar named Hungry Buffalo .
The ambience of this place gave me a feel ...back in time.... my childhood ancestral home ...red flooring , old lamps , a central courtyard , the old black and white switch boards, the big storage jars (barnis ) etc..
Even the wooden cutlery ,earthern ware lends to the ethnic feel of the place .
The food takes you back to your roots ....grandma's cooking ....
simple ,fresh farm produce organic ingredients cooked slowly with love .
The freshness and flavors of the food is the USP of this place .
A must try on the list : Kothambir Vadi, Bhiksha bowl ,the akki rotis with a delicious variety of palyas and yes the wide array of lip smacking chutneys and podis are not to be missed !
A sheer gastronomical delight served with love too...
A must must visit !
Those who live for organic food and are fans of farm-to-table produce must visit this humble peaceful cafe with a variety of light healthy filling meal options! I had the rice & podi meal and I loved the ghee with the 3 types of podi and lemon peel masala. The guy serving was kind to offer this plate of sweet pancakes on the house! Only wish had more time as they promote slow cooking & slow eating so another leisurely visit due! Its perfect for those who want to sit with a book all day long!
We ordered akki roti , bikshaw bowl , chapathi meal .
Bikshaw bowl contain red rice of one cup , 4types of palya .. tasted same like home food ... Was able to make out food was prepared with all fresh veggies and ingredients.
Akki roti and chapathi was so soft .
For me bikshaw bowl 👍just loved it .
Ambience seems so pleasing , can't expect privacy , good place for smaller crowd or family PPL .
Really enjoyed the food. Was very tasty and homely.
Amazing food and experience.
Unlike the conventional food the organic food that is served here, the fresh odur of lemon grass,
and the interiors add up to the essence. Cheers!
Kishore what you and your team have done is the best thing we all enjoyed the food and ambience everything in the place it was a perfect home you made us go back 40 years how our mother used to cook and serve Thank you the food we had was awesome delicious God bless you all is what I wish and pray
Amazing place with Yummy taste food.
People are awesome
A very peaceful place and soothing ambience. They have limited dishes but each one of them is handcrafted. The taste was decent and more on a satvik side. Doesn't hurt to visit this place but make sure you reach before 6.30 PM since they close very soon!
Very humane. I felt like I had been to a friend's place!
Lovely place with great, clean and nutritious food! The ambience is lovely, just like a home! Tried the Biksha Bowl and Kothimbir Vadi, great flavours! Will love to visit again :)
Pleasant place for a pleasure experience, this was run by 4 ppl, they were very friendly, it looks expensive menu because they get things from perfect organic stores across India and few of them they grow beside your seat where we sit. Very lovely atmosphere, dish made with detailed knowledge on organic.
In the beautiful and traditional part of Bangalore is this native organic cafe tucked away from the city's noise and hustle bustle.
Must try food - Bullet kadubu
Why I recommend this place? - Their attention to details is on point. From clay cutlery to vettivere flavoured water to fresh and tasty healthy food.
Ambience - perfect for a peaceful and relaxed holiday lunch outing.
Food - Healthy traditional food. They believe in slow cooking to give you the best tastes.
Service - Super excited and joyous bunch of people at their toes to serve their hosts.
Nice hidden page in Jayanagar. Really friendly staff and wholesome tasty food. I can't recall the names of the dishes we ordered but everything was tasty.
Loved the natural ambience. Just sit back, relax and catch up with some old buddies or family as sweet music wafts through the air. Different 'podis' with ghee is a must-try
This place is soo amazing .... Love everything about this place ...: It's a comfort place ... Definitely a must visit for all the ppl who crave some simple yet absolutely delicious food 💞
A place where you actually can feel "Atithi Devo Bhava". Food cooked n served with love, care & Respect. Must visit place.

Wanting to visit new place we choose Hungry buffalo not knowing what this gem was about. Wow! Amazing healthy organic good. Delicious food, friendly staff, got to learn so much 😊
It is a hidden treasure for sure. Will be visiting this gem really soon ❤️
Felt like back to home, peaceful place with homely fresh food. People wr very helpful, patient and polite to explain thr menu and ingredients thy use, very fresh food which we could make out from very first bite. Thank you guys for reminding us of childhood days.I could say now my home is just 25 mins far away. Cheers
This is one helluva discovery. Hidden inside by lanes of jayanagr 1st block, this old house converted to a foodie joint show cases this age old house with a typical kitchen . Natural sunlight inside this house is something interesting . It has really aged well and they have retained the same . Biksha bowl, black rice crackers and Ragi Nachos are not to be missed. My friend ordered chapati meal and was happy with the authentic home style food. Here everything is made fresh right from veggies chopping. Nothing is ready, so it takes a longer time for service. They have just 5 tables and almost busy inspite of reservations. Go here for a different experience.
Place for healthy, homely and lovely food. Hospitality was excellent. Felt like being at home :)
We had puchkas, chappathi meal, roti meal, payasam and bullet kadubus. All food are freshly prepared out of fresh pest-free, non-toxic vegetables. Each bite felt so good. Especially the (real) akki roti. Didn't know that akki roti could be this soft and tasty. Came to that this is how an actual akki roti tastes. I don't think we could find this anywhere else in Bangalore.
Overall, highly recommended. Just go there and eat. You won't regret :)
I'm a regular customer of Buffalo Back and this place is a real gem! They have a very well curated daily menu, including some long forgotten traditional recipes. Nothing is stored from the previous day and all the food is made fresh every day. The ambience, the quality of food and the people all make this place truly special!
This place has amazing food! The experience is top notch. I would definitely recommend this place for people who are looking for a quiet, peaceful and enjoyable meal with your loved ones :) :)
A portal into another dimension, a different pace of eating and living. Don’t come here expecting a commercial cafe experience- lay back, relax and give in.
A taste of local, authentic and real organic food is what you get at Hungry Buffalo! People here are not just fulfilling their passion for organic living but also serving some wholesome food for the soul.
Their Buddha bowl is worth mentioning, it varies with the season and is extremely filling.
My kids like the cracker with dips...
First things first: a rare place which serves only organic food without the use of any processed ingredients (even refined sugar). Couple this with the incredible amount of thought that has been put into each and every item on the menu, and you have an assortment of some super tasty and healthy dishes to try.
Added bonus: the folks running the place are super enthusiastic about what they do, the passion with which they'll explain each and every dish they serve adds an entirely new dimension to your experience. Plus the lovely ambience that they've created makes it perfect place.
Loved the overall experience of the space. The food was local and authentic with filling portion sizes. It is a perfect place to escape to, from the craziness of the city and, spend some quality time reading a book or with friends.
Loved the ambiance and hospitality. One thing that I immediately felt that a lot of thought and effort has been given on everything from decor, music, cutlery and of course food.
Food is delicious and healthy. They use only organic ingredients to prepare food. You will find very different and creative dishes on the menu. Their Beetroot payasm and rice chips with dip are must try.
A perfect place to have healthy food and spend your evening in peace.
Amazing Food , Amazing Place , Amazing Host
They have amazing unique food options which you can not find in whole India . The way they describe the menu will make you fall in love with the food . Amazing ambience , you can spend whole evening peacefully . Their service is super fast .
If you want to have amazing dishes and peaceful evening together , Hungry Buffalo is the place for you .
This is A one place if you want to spent your evening peacefully. Especially the music is awesome. Food is also very different and prefect in taste. Must visit place.
Ambience is A-one. The food is very different from your usual cafes and it is a perfect place to spend your evening in peace.
Very friendly staff and extremely knowledgeable on what they are doing and the kind of food they want to popularize.
In this fast paced, everywhere you turn restaurant world, finding a place where Food is made and served with love, is a rarity...
Care, and joy can be felt just from listening to the description of the menu, curated and prepared by their passionate creators Swaroopa and Madhur.
Then comes a feast for the eyes, when a plate of delicious assemblages is placed before you, on a plantain leaf in an earthen plate. Breathe in the aromas of freshly prepared ingredients with tempered spices, grated coconut, groundnuts, seeds, and find your taste buds delight in and repeatedly ask for more bites of salty sweet tangy freshness...
All this in a charming setting, the living room of a beautiful sky filled courtyard home, with a garden, fish pond and earthy cool oxide floors.
Kishore makes the perfect host, playing selective ambient music, conversations and generous attention to recommendations on what to order, eat drink and snack on! Alongside several refills of Matke ka paani ...
Delectable frozen and warm deserts, an array of home brewed drinks, surprise takes on snacks, add on to the experience of a meal like no other; essentially being un-usual, delicious, healthy, organic, and unique.
Everything on and off the menu is Recommend :)
The place is tucked away near Madhavan Park in Jayanagar, serving organic off beat food. Each dish and drink seems to have been researched and developed as you won’t find it any other menu elsewhere. Simple yet tasty and more importantly great care has gone into making it healthy. All organic for those who care. Lot of detail whether it’s the ambience or choice of tableware. Really a different experience. Definitely a destination food joint for those who like to try something new.
A great place to go to with the family. Such a soothing ambience. Their Dip n chips is a must try. Even my kids relished it.🤤
A special mention about their oh-so-cute cutlery.
Overall, Hungry Buffalo gets my thumbs for its delicious, wholesome food and ambience.
5 stars to the food, the people and the setting at Hungry Buffalo! It feels like a different world when you enter the place - my favourite place to sit is by the little pond and gaze at the fishies. Your children will love it too. The food is delicious, creative and healthy, all made from organic ingredients. The dips are my favourite! And the people running the place are really lovely.
The vibe is awesome so is the tasty food. Highly recommend this place. Each and every dish is full of health and wholesomeness. The people are adorable and accommodating.
It’s a quaint and adorable little café tucked away in Jayanagar that totally fulfills its boast of serving fully organic food. The menu is a little limited but what they serve is absolutely delicious. I had their cold melon soup which was refreshing on the hot summer afternoon and their millet roti platter was unique and finger-lickingly yum. I had an extremely filling lunch but did not feel guilty about it because I knew I was eating completely natural and wholesome food.
Experienced great good and hospitality at Hungry Buffalo. Food is very native and preparations nicely enhance the natural tastes and flavors of the key ingredients. We had Watermelon soup, Cucumber starter, Chapathi meal and Black rice Payasam. Each of them had something that stood out of the ordinary. The soup for its innovative preparation and taste, starter for its presentation, meal for its simple but nourishing side dishes and Payasam for everything (all in one makes it a perfect finish)!! Highly recommended for the hungry ones looking for some nourishing organic food. Go for it..
A warm place with heart, a peaceful ambience. Each dish is a speciality made with thought difficult choices. Food for every mood, meal, snack, cripies for indulgence all organic made with millet or whole grains yet tasty n healthy.
One of the best place for organic food.
Bhiksha bowl was very filling n was full of flavours. My kiddo loves salsa with ragi chips n your ajwain leaf buttermilk. A must visit place. Highly reccomend this place.

Great place serving organic, wholesome, homely food at affordable prices. Lots of local delicacies. Chapati meal and Buddha bowl were yummy to taste, along with some coolers like Tambuli..
An oasis of peace in the heart of the city. Serves good, wholesome and fully organic food. Nothing gets carried forward to the next day and so you can be assured of freshness, and that does reflect in the taste. The melon salad was refreshing on a hot day, and the Buddha Bowl was satisfyingly filling. All in all a great place for a healthy bite
Hidden in Jayanagar, this is the place if you are looking for delicious organic food which also plays around with local flavors and ingredients. The menu has been curated by the owners themselves and they have really gone the extra mile to create some interesting combinations. The akki roti wraps are a must try!
This is the best organic food I have had in the city. Here healthy flavours meets tasty food. The owners themselves have curated some really innovative dishes. Highly recommended👍
This little gem is hidden in residential area in Jayanagar ...offers interesting healthy food options with no compromise on taste! Loved ragi roll and sourdough crackers ..a must visit place.

Great ambience in a quaint old house in a quiet lane. The menu is very unique. What you can expect is very fresh home cooked food, that you don't usually find in hotels. It's healthy, organic, wholesome food for slightly higher price. They don't store food overnight in fridge which ensures freshness. For this reason, service was a bit slow as they freshly cook the food.
A hidden gem nestled adjacent to the ever green madhavan park. It really is a hidden gem as there is nothing from outside which makes it stand out. Looks like any other charming old homes which are part of old Bangalore. But step in and you are bound to get blown away by the ambience. They have retained every aspect of a welcoming home. The hosts are so welcoming as well and do explain everything about the menu and help you navigate with it. The menu is a fusion of South Indian favorite dishes with a contemporary touch. Everything is organic and you can tell it's fresh too. The place is not lavishly big so a big group might find it difficult. Price is very reasonable too. A in house store let's you buy groceries which are organic. My present favorite place.
Awesome place, food and people. It is one of the best veg restaurants in Bangalore.
Ambience:
This is a remodelled old house with a lot of traditional items giving a retro feel. Attention to detail is what I was surprised at - stray stones assembled like what we could see in old days (90s). Flooring is so good and authentic like old days, we decided to sit on the floor seating. It was really good for me, but people who are not accustomed to sitting down for food might not be comfortable. They can choose other seating arrangements though. Camphor smoke smell gives that wonderful feeling. Only thing that could be improved is the mosquito control. But they have taken steps. This area in general has a lot of mosquitoes we found while parking our car near a park. Comparatively it was less inside the restaurant. Overall we loved the authentic ambience and that sets the tone for what we gonna eat.
Food:
Menu is plain and simple, that's what make me happy. Because too many items on menu is always tricky and takes a lot time to guess what to eat. We ordered Kothambir Vadi, Bullet Kadubu, Biksha bowl, Podi rice, Roti Meals and payasam. We loved our food so much that we left our plates clean. They say everything is made from organic ingredients and one could see that in the taste and happy tummy. Akki roti was suggested to us, though I had a prejudice against it because of my previous encounters with them in other places in Bangalore. After they insisted its good, I gave it a try. To my surprise, this one was really really good and shown how a good Akki roti would taste. Thanks for that. Other dishes were equally good and we loved it like other reviewers. Payasam everything is edible including the ragi cup holding it :) Nice touch to presentation.
Service:
Most of the restaurants, food and service are always opposite to each other. This is one of the places that stand as an outlier for such notion. Caretakers took care of us with utmost courteousness and knowledgeable at what they serve. This makes sure that their suggestions are based on what you would love.
Overall this is one of the best casual dining place to pay a visit.
It's awesome.
Though resto name sounds western but food taste resembles "made in granny house".
Purely organic.
We tried
- Bullet Kadabu
- All spice hot drink (Must try)
- Papadi chat (Papadi made of rice)
- Akki rotti meal
All were really good.
Ambience is just out of the box.
From outside it's looks like a 70's home entrance & inside it's really well managed for seating.
Good to visit with family & friends.
Looking forward to visit again.

A quaint little cafe, with a pleasing ambience, warm hospitality and most of all, wonderful food
A
We were absolutely amazed to know from the owners, that food is served in its purest form - from the vegetables to the spices and the grains, everything is organic! Even the cookies!
The organic store, adjacent to the cafe is a must visit too!
I had to meet a friend for lunch and he said he'd take me to a place that was a nice cafe in Jayanagar. Little did I know that we'd end up in a quaint little place that took me back to memories of my ancestral home in my father's village. This place had simple furniture, red oxide flooring, comfortable rustic decor and just felt so homely.
The food was amazing. There were items on the menu that I've not tasted before because of them being prepared differently and with organic ingredients that tasted as fresh as fresh can be.
I am pretty sure all the health benefits I got out of eating such a great meal were offset by me overeating. I'd strongly recommend a visit just to get authentic, unconventional, tasty and healthy food that fills your stomach and also warms your heart.
Thoroughly loved being @ Hungry Buffalo..One has to be there to feel the ambience each nook and corner s been thoughtfully beautified and the food served is sathvik..feel good place..would recommend this place for all who look forward for a special space to be with oneself or with friends n family...
