Ten of us had dinner at this restaurant on a Saturday, surprisingly the place was not crowded - which suited us. We stuck to their signature dishes, they were all good - chicken cafreal rolls, prawn dangar and fodi for starters; and prawn udamethi, chicken xacuti and rawa fried chonak fish for mains. the cafreal rolls and xacuti were outstanding. For dessert we tried the caramel pudding which was pretty good. Service was reasonably fast., Santosh our server was friendly and knowledgeable. But the bar was a bit of a let down as some of the popular whiskies were out of stock.

Voltaire basically means an easy arm chair which is even today seen in some old heritage Goan houses. This restaurant also has some vintage ambience as is name suggests. It is located in the north, few meters from reis magos fort. The food is quite good. For the desserts, serradura here is a must try. On the first floor, one can get a good view of river mandovi.

This is a gem of a restaurant hidden away in a quaint little village called Verem and serves awesome Saraswat cuisine. Goan seafood is often portrayed as the Catholic cuisine to the uninitiated, but in reality, there are two different cuisines in Goa - the Hindu and the Catholic ones and my favourite by a huge margin is the Hindu cuisine. The ambience is unique as it is understated, set in a picturesque house with an old world charm. It is unfortunately not very accessible unless you have a vehicle at your command. Not an issue for the local, but could be challenging for the traveller

The food is beyond awesome, the portions huge. Can be a bit pricey, but it is most certainly money well spent. I had the fish curry (locally called hooman) with Chonak rawa fry (Giant perch), both flawlessly prepared and a most wonderful traditional preparation called 'sungtache dangar'. Closest I come to describing them in English is as prawn cutlets, but that quite falls short of the wonderful taste, flavor and texture. Another standout is the coconut based solkadi - coconutty, creamy and piquant in the same mouthful, this is one concoction that one can't stop downing one after the other, especially on a sultry afternoon - can be had as a drink, or more traditionally, with rice after a satisfying meal of fish curry and rice. Only been here twice and almost repeated all the dishes both times (chonak - due to a lack of a better alternative and the dangar, that just had to be repeated), had different fish curries both times though - the prawn based once and the mackerel based the other time. The mackerel curry is prepared using teppal - a close cousin of the schezwan pepper. You have to have this curry to understand how versatile this spice is. The huge delectable portions meant that we came out overfed each time, but with food this good... who cares?
This restaurant is the 2nd on my list of best seafood places in Goa. The first? Does not even list on Zomato! Poor Zomato

Set in a Old Goan house with a nice set up with a breathtaking view of the River Mandovi.
Great place for fish.
Wide choice for typical Goan dishes. We ordered rawa fried Chonak, Prawn curry and Rice. Prawn curry quantity was alot more than sufficient for 4 people. Chonak was nice and fresh. Papad came as complimentary. For dessert we had Alle Belle which we relished the most. Service was very fast probably because there were less occupied tables. Overall good place. Very reasonable.

Freindly place overlooking INS Mandovi boat pool. Having a beautilfull view of vastness of river Mandovi adds up to serenity. Old Goan look in the ambience gives it a rich feel. Staff is very welcoming, freindly and knows the dishes well. He even understands our taste and recommends are ask the chef to adjust the dush to our liking. Full marks therefamous for goan cuisine. But we had-
Chicken handi is yummilicius. Butter Chicken and chicken kadhai both good. Chapatis are homestyle and good.
The caramal is perfectly yummmmm!!! Been thete many times. Home delivered many times... Many more to come

A place where you will find one of the best Goan food.
Myself being a Goan, I can say that the food just reflects nothing other than a mother's home cooked food.

Few Suggestions - Try out the Prawns Dangar, Cafreal Spring Roll and the Chonak Rava Fry.

A place, must visit🤩

Let's start with the look of the restaurant... It has got this ancestral house look with a balcony on the ground floor and large windows on the first floor and kind of a backyard ... My pick would be the table on the first floor right next to the window... The view is simple breathtaking.. it overlooks the river Mandovi...

As far as the food is concerned... 'tisryanche dangar' are a a must have... other than that if you are up for some traditional Goan food, both veg and non-veg then this is the place to be at... Stuffed mackerels, prawns pickle, prawns uditmethi, cafreal spring roll et al. And if you are in Goa during Shravan don't forget to taste their authentic Goan veg shravan thali. If you are on a visit to Goa and u haven't visited Voltaire then u have missed on a true Goan food experience.

Voltaire, an old house converted to a restaurant. This is an authentic Goan cuisine place. They do serve dishes which are not categorized into goan cuisine. This place is located quite near to the reis magos fort. Located on the quiet and peaceful roads of nerul. Happened to be here for lunch. They a huge area for lunches/dinner. There is a beautiful veranda right outside to sit and enjoy the delicacies. We sat on the first floor to get the view of the mandovi river. The interiors are vintage with wooden floorings and furniture. This place introduced me to authentic goan cuisine and i loved every bit of it.

Few checks

Food - vegetarian and non vegetarian

Alcohol - Yes

Service – Pretty decent

Cost – pretty reasonable

Seating – huge groups

Staff – trained and friendly

Some dishes to try:

Goan chicken soup – It had macaroni, boiled chicken cubes and some veggies to go in it. Loved the flavors

Prawns Dangar – These are mouth watering savory cutlets with minced prawns

Potato and Eggplant foddi – These are marinated slices of eggplant and potato

Bharillo Bangda – This dish is basically a stuffed mackerel fish, with stuffing of garlic and other spices. I found garlic stuffing a bit over powering. But the fish was pretty delicious and cooked to perfection

Udamethi – It is a delicious curry prepared by grinding roasted coconut and other spices. It goes pretty well with the vada (wheat based bread)

Alle Belle – It a dessert of pancakes, coconut and jaggery. Coconut and jaggery is mixed together and stuffed inside the pancake. It was simply delicious.

I just have these 2 pics, which literally gave me a confidence, that this place is going to be one amazing experience. Specially when recommended by a localite, Akhil Parrikar, I had to visit here.
Ambience, as there tag line suggest drink, done, recline.
lovely decor with a matka uaed to decorate the center area surrounded by the reclinning chairs and high chair and some regular tabels.
Goa is flooded with booze, we all know that, but what we need to definitely try is the local beer produce there. we tried Bello and one more which asted like Ura. Bello tasted similar to bira blonde and Ura we all know.
Food
Started with some rish cutlets, some rava fry (chonak, tisrya) surmai masala fry ( a nice thin liquidy layer of chilly powder paste mixed with some other ingredients) we could lick the masala with the local bread, Undo, simply amazing.
Bangda (fish, this needs to develop a palate of taste) it's strong flavours and the pungent smell, u definitely think twice before we order, but this was stuffed bangda with some green chutney and a crisplayer on the top.again simply awesome.
we tried the regular and chicken spring roll, that was okaish. I won't blame it coz this is a purely fish place, rest all should be ignored. we also had some sukat chutney or koshimbir types, couldn't stop licking my fingers till the end. and then came the famous fish curry rice, prawns curry and the basmai rice. I was hoping to try he local rice, but by the time I could think, it was already there. again not a single thing about it to complain. his has a coconut gravy based with some prawns and okra, the curry tasted more like khow suey. Another beauty to add to our meal. Was so Damm full that I could barely walk.
u definitely need to rest/recline for sometime after the meal.
great food, simple wow service, this place deserves a 5+ 🌟 raiting.

Restaurant with Great ambience, vintage homely wooden architecture, great view facing the sea. A must visit for those loving quiet serene surrounding.

We tried the rawa chonak fish and bharlo bangdo (green stuffing, also comes with red stuffing), bit pricey but worth it. (forgot to take pictures)

In the main course, Chicken Cafreal with Une (goan bread), Prawns biryani n Raita.

Desserts- we had Sera Dura- A MUST MUST try..(freshly prepared cream with finely crumbled biscuits and cashew nut powder topping).

As the tagline goes "drink, dine and recline" this heritage house opposite mandovi offers the same to you. This place introduces you to the authentic goan flavors. Even if you are a vegetarian you don't need to worry as this place has a vegetarian counterpart for everything listed on the menu. The staff is usually overworked but nice, patient and courteous. As adviced by them I chose to go with "veg dangar" for starter and trust me it is one of the best starter I have had in a while. It's different and unique. Whereas the xacuti I had for main course was okay, and could have been much better. But overall a good dining experience.

Finally Voltaire is on Zomato ! Waited for over a year to review this place. And really happy I'm d first..

Quiet restaurant with well planned interiors to stay true to it's name. Run by a Non Catholic Goan family they make sure they put in extra effort to live up to the Goan flavors.

The person attending to us seemed like he was one among the family members that run the place. He payed careful attention to our Goan food cravings and suggested just the right dishes. I remember having the Prawn Dangar and it's d best I've had till date. We had an all Goan dinner that night and every dish was yum.

With all due respect to Hindu beliefs, the only drawback is that they don't serve beef or pork. And pork is a delecasy here in Goa.

All in all, I'm definitely visiting again and recommend this place of you are the North and wish to have a quiet lunch / dinner.

Doling out authentic goan food, @voltairegoa should be on your must-eat-at list. It is on ours for sure. Do try their Seafood Thali that has the freshest catch of the day and is served with Solkadi and fish fry and more. And, vegetarians don't be disappointed, their veg dishes are equally yum. All the curries and dishes are dished out using authentic Konkani masalas and have old Goan charm written all over it. We had their 1) Fish thali @250: Sungtanchi Udhamethi, visonache posth, Tisryanche Dangar, cutlet, kismor, chitki mitki Bhaji, Xit, Sol kadi, Papad, Pickle, Salad, Tavsali. 2) Veg thali @180: Varan, Bhajin [banana fry], Chitki mitki bhaji, Sol kadi, Salad, Papad, Pickle, Xit, Tavsali. The food here is so fingerlicking good that you will remember the taste for years to come.

This Authentic Goan Restaurant facing the Mandovi river, is an epitome of Goan facade, it's feel, culture and cuisine all packed into a concoction that leaves you spellbound. Sangam, the proprietor is a wonderful host with a warm and pleasant personality. He made us feel at home, personally took care of our seating, helped us place our orders and even designed a unique cocktail (Chanchal chedu) especially for us, which was truly amazing. Must try! The thali was a deal breaker, absolutely packed with authentic Goan flavors, served to us exactly the way our grandparents did, on a banana leaf. Brought back some fond memories. The items complimented each other and were cooked to perfection. By the time we were done, it was difficult to stand with our tummies filled so we sat there to absorb some more of the vibrant aura that the place emits. A truly 5 star experience. Highly recommended for an Authentic Goan experience.

But the most impressive is the cost, it serves fine done food and an extremely reasonable price. A sure shot hit. One must spend an afternoon here. Highly recommended.

Lovely place by the riverside in verem. Parking is an issue but once U get inside, the light toned down ambience gives U a feel of being in the old Goan days. The Goan cuisine is to go after. Specially the daangars and fish fried as well as curry with rice. The Cafreal is also awesome. They have a balcony sitting where one can have a nice family dinner with the breeze blowing. Again the upper floor allows one to entertain as well as have a business meal without interruptions. The place is bustling on weekend evenings but the spacing between tables allows good privacy. Totally value for money and a definite repeat visit.

Awesome place for lunch and dinner in Reis Magos. Old Portuguese house converted into a Restaurant. Goan cuisine. During my last visited we ordered Prawns Dhangar, Stuffed Mackerels, Chicken in bird nest ( I think that's what they call it ), Chicken Cafreal with Goan bread and Prawn Curry with Rice accompanied by Fried Fish and Kokum mocktails to quench the thirst. We were 3 of us and were so full we didn't order dessert this time. Loved the ambience, reasonable price, excellent service and friendly host.
