Go for the food. Amazing dimsums, silky soups, a great mapo tofu and the highlight was the turnip cake. The ambience and service can really be ramped up. But the ambience especially is not something I would really carry back. But the highlight is the food and that was excellent.
I totally loved the dining experience at The Shang Palace. Great atmosphere, amazing food and top notch service explain why this place is ranked so high by people who love fine dining (and authentic Chinese cuisine).
We started our journey with prawn dim sums with caviar and those were so well made that we had to repeat the order one more time. Never before did we have such perfectly made dim sums.
We then ordered the Beijing duck and they informed us that they would take around 45-minutes to prepare. What was then served was totally worth it. The duck was roasted perfectly- not too crisply and not too soft. We had it with rolls and then they prepared salt and pepper duck which was very well made too.
I felt that their options with drinks could improve. We ordered a Jim Beam and a Mount Gay rum. Jim Beam wasn’t available and they served Mount Gay white. When I asked for the dark rum they said they’d get it from their bar but later informed that Mount Gay didn’t come as a dark rum (they had no idea that it was indeed a dark rum).

I had an amazing experience at Shang Palace! From the moment I walked in, the elegant ambiance and warm hospitality set the tone for a fantastic day. The menu was a delightful journey through authentic Chinese flavors, each dish beautifully presented and bursting with taste. The Peking duck was a definite highlight, perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside. The attention to detail in every aspect, from service to decor, made me feel truly pampered. I left Shang Palace with a full heart and satisfied palate, already looking forward to my next visit. It was an unforgettable day of culinary excellence and exceptional hospitality.
