One of the gems in south Bangalore for their amazing South Indian food.
Especially the idly and vada which goes perfectly well with their lip smacking chutney.
I visited this iconic place post the lockdown. When I visited, they had removed all the seating. You can place your order on the counter outside and eat it outside the outlet or takeaway. They served in disposable wooden plates.
This is a place which sticks to what it does best. There are just 4-5 items which they serve. The biggest surprise might be that there is no dosa. Anyways we ordered idli vada , kesari bhath and coffee.
Idli is one of the best I have ever had. And I am not a big idli fan also. Even the vada is really flavoursome. Both were served dipped in green chutney. This is an unparalleled combination. Kesari bhath here is a bit more sweeter, bit more colourful and having a bit more pronounced flavour of cardamon and clove. I liked it. Coffee was super as well.
Glad I finally visited here. If you haven't till now, just go for that idli. You won't be disappointed .
This joint is located at a quaint little place and the trees and Greenery surrounding it makes it a pleasant spot especially in the mornings.
But the magic of it is in its food. The menu is pretty limited but every item on it is of great quality.
I think that I had the whole menu for around 100 bucks. In that I had a plate of idli vada, Kesari bath, kara bath and filter coffee.
The idli and vada I had was pretty delicious.
The idli was soft and vada had the right crunch. The chutney that was served with it was perfect for the idli and vada. There's also a thick chutney available that's spicy you can opt for that as well.
The kara bath had a nice flavor and embedded with ghee. It was not hard like the ones which are usually found in Bangalore. There were mustard seeds , coriander leaves, curry leaves , some lentils present which added to the flavour of the dish.
The Kesari bath was the best amongst the dishes I had. It had a nice rich flavor and there was a crunch of pineapple which added a new texture to the dish. There was ample amount of ghee in the dish as well.
The filter coffee was top notch as well. It was strong and certainly packed a punch .
The owner is pretty warm and welcoming. He can converse in a variety of languages which certainly helps their customers.
There's parking space for two wheelers available. However if you're are in a car , you may need to drive a little bit and find a spot .
There's certainly hygiene standards maintained. You can easily see it.
All the employees work wearing a mask and following the covid protocols set by the authorities.
You are not a Bangalorean if you haven’t tasted Idli’s from Brahmins.
Recommendation:
-Idli
-Khara bath
-filter coffee
Hands down, they have the best South Indian filter coffee. 🙌☕️
Famous place, and the food / service is always excellent. May seem pricey in comparison to others, but is good VFM considering quality and cleanliness etc.
But like all other South-Indian places today, they have substituted coconut in the chutney with gram flour. Would have been better if they gave limited chutney with the original and healthier coconut option instead.
Staff here are just amazing. Very polite and friendly. Right from cashier to service guy.
BRAHMINS COFFEE BAR is the best place to have idli , coffee and south indian breakfast snacks in the whole of Bangalore!!
I'm lucky enough to have my Nani's place just besides this ; I've been growing having at this wonderful place every summer!!
Serving for 60+ years , Brahmins taste , service and the feel hasn't changed yet .
Our grand parents ,then our parents and now us ;
Serving for almost 3 generations , Brahmins can be easily termed as the best place to have south indian breakfast in Bangalore!!
• Smile because it's hot •
I guess the only place I know, which has minimum items on its menu but gathers an eager crowd and praises like none other. Being a lazy bum, I would happily wake up at 5am and ride down 16kms to just eat that piping hot idli vada and chutney.
The feeling when you finally walk to the standing table, with that plate holding the gorgeously soft Idli and that perfectly brown Vada; both submerged in that perfect blend of liquidy Chutney. Ahh! I have come here almost 100+ times but always make the mistake of putting a steaming hot bite of all of these into my mouth and gasping for air!
Always- How can you resist that temptations.
If that last paragraph made you drool a bit, it's time you visit this place. 😌
And it's making COVID experience easier too as they are opeeeeeeeeen early in the morning for takeouts
Wohoooo! Grab that mask and a cloth cover with the empty boxes waiting to be filled up with those beautiful creations 🤩. Enjoy!

Pocket friendly. Prompt service. Legendary. Idli & vada are the best. Legendary
One of the favourite. One of the oldest joint in bangalore. Crowded. Must try for all south indian food lover.
Very soft idlis and crispy vada. Among top idli places in Bangalore
Idli, Vada, kharabath, kesaribath and coffee. That's all they have but each of these is a masterpiece!
The best Idli in Bangalore. Iconic joint of the city. Unquestioned hygiene, quality and super value for money. Top it up with der killer coffee
Loved the super soft idli, vada, coconut chutney and karabath. Travelled 25 km and it was worth it. Bit pricey when we compare. Need to maintain hygiene. Suggestion: Can wear gloves while handling the food since they accept coupons and then parcel the food. Also the cleaning area is a bit dirty.
This place has always been on the top of my list of breakfast joints in Bengaluru. It is pocket friendly and hot food is served at lightening speed. Their idlis melt in your mouth. Also try vade and khara bath :)
This is one of the vintage hotels in iconic basavangudi.
You will find it on the left innerstreet opppsite to shell.
A small place with no seating arrangements and a bit crowded place as Well.
Tried the idly vada and filter coffee, it was good.
Will visit again for kharabath.
Amazing!! Such simple place and out of the world food. The idli melted in the mouth. The vada was appropriately crunchy. The filter coffee was perfect!! And the prices are super economic. I had 2 idlis, 2 vadas, 2 coffee, 1 kesar bath, 1 kada bath... All in 170 rupees. And unlimited chutney supply which is very delicious. Staff is very efficient. Even if it's Crowded, there's hardly wait time. Loveeee it!!!
This place serves authentic style filter coffee along with south indian breakfast delicacy which is idli with chutney , uddina vada with chutney.
This place operate for whole day.
Must visit this place for best best ever south indian coffee
A 60+ year old tiffin and coffee place. Worth a visit atleast for its legendary history and legacy . The idli and Kara bath stand out . Coffee is okay. Prices are easy on the pocket . There is no seating area or tables. So one needs to eat standing. Be prepared for it . Don’t miss this place.
Hygiene and quality of food is excellent
Iconic is the right word for this place. Consistent while being ancient, supposedly a zero change in either ambience or in the menu.
You will find uniformity and quality in taste everytime you go there. Though it's a very busy and conjusted place, but then it happens with each and every popular place.
Cost: Idli @ 17 Rs, Vada @ 24 Rs
One of the oldest and legendary outlets of Bangalore for south Indian breakfast which typically serves idly, wada, butter, chow chow and kara bath, coffee & tea only
The idly are soft and served with home made butter, wada was crispy n coffee was amazing
Also the quantity was good compared to other outlets (approx 15-20%)
Cumming to the price I felt it little over priced when compared to other outlets like taaza tindi.
Perfect place for a hearty breakfast. Their idlis are very soft and vada is crispy and this goes along very well with the coconut chutney they serve . The kharabath is yummy with a hint of lemon flavour . Overall a must visit place for their idlis and kharabath.
Brahmin's Coffee Bar is a cult place on Ranga Rao road and gives the old Bangalore feels... the melt-in-your-moulth idli, beautifully consistent green chutney and crispy outside-very soft inside vada are a must try...n so is the kesari bhaath made in pure ghee if you hv a sweet tooth :) though no place to sit, but has tables where you can place your plate, stand n eat comfortably, all-in-all a simple place yet a great experience in itself..also very reasonably priced..
This place is legendary. A dear friend had come from Mumbai and wanted to visit this place. Reached at 12:15 to find this place shut, came back again at 3 to have filter kapi and medu vada. Menu is limited but the taste is amazing.
One of food gems of Bengaluru. Famous for Idli chutney and filter coffee. There are other cafes in Brahmin's name, but this is one and only Brahmin's Coffee Bar. It's hygienic and clean place and family friendly.
This os one of the oldest Brahmin style food joint. Serves only limited items like idly, Vada, kharabath, kesaribath and filter coffee. The taste is really best. Clean place, quick service. Chatni here is extrordinary. You can try this place with your family.
Best chutney i've ever had in bangalore. They have just mastered the way of making the select few dishes on the menu. You dont get any sambar but you dont need it. Be sure to taste the vada here.
A crowded place.. but has always lived upto my expectations. simple vada and idly with a tasty coconut chutney surpassed all flavours i had before. ending with filtered coffee made the evening alive. lovely place.. a must visit at any point of time.
The bestest ever coffee and butter idly I could think of as early as 3 am in the morning and wait till 6 for this place to open!! The only place I dye to eat in the early mornings
Fantastic idli and chutney, coffee is bit bitter for my palate but still a decent one. Kharabath is not to my liking. I would eat this idli everyday! Even if it is one hit wonder it so good, I would not mind travelling a few kms to try it once in a while.
Definition of idly, vada and chutney in Bangalore
The original and still the best.
There are several outlets in Bangalore that use the name Brahmin's but none of these have anything to do with this legendary outlet that has no other branch. The cafe enjoys huge fan following and is always crowded. But there is ample space in front and on the side so that you can enjoy the super soft idlis and great coffee at peace. The chutney is so much in demand that a person sits separately to serve you extra helping!
One of the oldest shops in Bangalore.Located in Basavangudi. Must visit place if you want to have good breakfast...Well there are no tables n chairs.. Its stand and eat place but no one will even think about that here.amazing food quality and taste..limited menu..but there will be always a crowd waiting
tried the idli vada, Kesari bath...the vada is Crisp and yummy. Khara bath was slightly underwhelming but the coffee after that was just mind blowing.
Food- 5/5
Service- 4/5
Ambience- NA
The best coffee ever. So nice and the staff were friendly. Small place but must visit
Simple this place is 5/5...no questions or doubt about it.
Planned to go to this place on 1 fine Saturday morning for breakfast, as soon as on as I reached i saw huge crowd and a long queue... But then the billing n serving was very fast.
This place has very simple n short menu and every item in that menu is simply delicious.
We had Idli Vada and khara bath along with filter coffee, they were very good in taste...
Special me toon to khara Bhat, this was the best I ever had... So Kudos.
Rating - 5/5
Sweet & simple thandi hangout place

Hello my lovely foodies...Kya haal chaal...what's weekend plan... planning for a delicious hot south Indian breakfast ..then directly head towards Brahmins Coffee Bar near Shankar mutt, shankarapura ..chamrajpet area...they serve one of the best and softest ..melt in the mouth idlis...and crispy and scrumptious vadas...with awesome chutney....its mouth watering...and a must to try...limited menu...which include idli, vada, khara bath, kesari bath , and coffee tea..also they give a spoon of white butter on top of idli, you just have to pay 8 rs. For that extra...but trust me idli taste increase with this butter on top....else you can enjoy as it is too...please note this place gives chutney only...hence if you prefer vada with sambhar that will not be available....but you won't regret having vada with chutney only...as it's worth having it...no sitting place..you have to stand and eat..or else of you going by car ...sit in car and enjoy having breakfast...this place is crowded on weekends...ideal time to visit 7:30 am - 9 am...else 6 am is best to avoid long ques...please note this place remains close on Sundays..and Mon. To Sat. Timings are 0600-1200 and 1500-1900...limited car parking on road side only, near hotel...but yes being it's residential area you can park you cars anywhere in any of the lanes near by...do visit and enjoy this yummy south Indian hot crispy n soft breakfast...I would recommend you should try each and everything...do not miss any item...enjoy guys and have funnnnn
One of the oldest shops in Bangalore.Located in Basavangudi, this place is really famous for its south indian breakfast and coffee. They serve only few number of items but the place gets really crowded when its open.Especially during the time of breakfast, its a perfect place for cheap and quality breakfast.I ordered Vada, Idli and a cup of coffee.Token self service system is there and you would have to eat while standing because there is no place for sitting.
Do you want the best idli? Here is your go to go place for idli and best filter coffee. The place is in rush all the time. But they dont compromise on the quality of their final product. Love the taste of the food.
Food: 4.5
Ambience: 4
Overall: 5.
A few years ago, Brahmins was not half a popular as it is now; it wasn't on any "featured", "best south indian" or "iconic restaurants" lists. The food used to be just as wonderful, though. Not much will change, I hope, for as long as it's around.
Had the best idly and chutney in Bangalore. A simple standing-only place. A great destination for idly vada, Khara bath, and coffee.
Amazing idli (soft as butter). Just melts in the mouth and how I can not tell about the coffee.
A coffee after a couple of idli's is a bliss.
Quick and super service, amazinggg coffee, awesome kesari bath.limited menu like any other old food store. The place is super buzzing and crowded in the mornings.
Brilliant place to have a cup of tea in this whole city.... This place has been there for a very long time and the service provided by them is excellent. This place is also very pocket friendly....
Over the decades, Brahmin’s coffee bar has become an epitome of similarities amongst generations!
Best idly in the city, served with one of the best coffees in the city👌🏻
Have tried a lot of places for the same, but nothing beats Brahmin’s.
One of the older restaurants in south Bangalore. This is the original Brahmin’s coffee Bar. Subsequently many places with same name have started in Bangalore though they are not related. Unlike most other places this restaurant has its own timing - 7am to 12 noon and 3pm to 7pm. They are closed on Sundays, which is unusual for restaurants as it’s probably the day with most footfall. But that’s Brahmin’s Coffee Bar for you! The menu is simple with just 4 items apart from Coffee/tea. The food tastes great. There is no seating and it is only self service. It gets pretty crowded especially on weekends.

Food is simple. And simplicity is the beauty here. Idli is melt in the mouth kind of an experience. Wada is also nice and homely. Tea was ok and i felt its priced slightly more than other stores. Overall, its definitely a decent eatery.
"Brahmin's Coffee Bar in Bangalore is a charming breakfast spot that stands out for its simplicity and delicious offerings. Their menu may be limited to just four breakfast items, but each one is a masterpiece. The idlis, vadas, khara bath, and kesari bath are prepared with such precision and flavor that they're nothing short of amazing. This place captures the essence of traditional South Indian breakfast.
What makes Brahmin's Coffee Bar truly special is its timeless ambiance. It's a humble, unpretentious eatery where you can savor your breakfast at a leisurely pace while enjoying the aromatic filter coffee. In a world filled with choices, this simplicity is a breath of fresh air.
If you're in Bangalore, don't miss the opportunity to experience the sheer delight of their breakfast offerings. Brahmin's Coffee Bar offers a culinary journey that's unforgettable."
Just 4 items and Super Quick service.. this is the trademark for darshinis to follow.. Delicious idli, crunchy vada, Tasty khara bath and kesari bath.. not to forget the watery chatni to make it delectable.. enough to fill you with satisfaction..
Impressed at Brahmins coffee bar ☺
This is the original and only Brahmins Coffee Bar. My first visit to this place was awesome. They had only 5 to 6 items in their menu but the taste of dishes was superb. Vada was very crispy and kharabath was too good. Filter coffee was the best. This place is crowded. Parking is not available so make sure you park your vehicles in nearby streets. Very clean and hygienic. You must visit this place and try all the dishes.
I've sipped a bit of old Bangalore charm and it tastes just as I imagined - warm and comforting. Do not miss this if you're in Blr. Absolute must have.
Don't come in expecting 5 star butlers or crazy ambiance. This place is all about simple setting and well preserved heritage recipes.
One of the best Breakfast points in Bangalore. Idli just melts in the mouth, crispy Vada with chutney is best. Kaseri bhat was okish. Don't forget to order filter coffee
Being one of the oldest cafes/eateries, the place lives up to reputation. Fluffy Idly, crispy vada and chutney. It's a must try. Coffee was also strong. Although, the place has no seating available, you can stand outside and tables are available to keep your food and eat. Would definitely recommend visiting there.
Nestled in the heart of Basavanagudi, Brahmin's Coffee Bar is a breakfast haven that transcends the ordinary. The culinary star of this establishment is undoubtedly the vada – a golden orb of perfection that promises a symphony of flavors and textures. From the first crunch that yields to a soft, airy interior, each bite is a testament to the mastery of South Indian culinary artistry.
The aroma that envelops Brahmin's is nothing short of a siren's call for food enthusiasts. The enticing scent of freshly fried vadas and the aromatic wafts of brewing coffee create an olfactory symphony that draws you in even before you've crossed the threshold. The fragrance of coffee in the air is not just an accompaniment; it's a prelude to the culinary delights awaiting inside.
As you savor the vada dipped in the coconut chutney, the crispy morning air under the sheltering branches of a big tree enhances the overall experience. The ambiance is serene, a perfect setting for a leisurely breakfast that transcends mere sustenance.
Let's not forget the delightful idlis – pillowy-soft steamed dumplings that rival the vada in their culinary prowess. Light, fluffy, and paired with the same delectable coconut chutney, they provide a different yet equally delightful breakfast experience.
In conclusion, Brahmin's Coffee Bar is not just a place to eat; it's an immersive journey into the heart of South Indian culinary excellence. The vada, idlis, the aromatic coffee, and the charming ambiance collectively create an experience that lingers in the memory, making it a culinary pilgrimage for breakfast enthusiasts.
An institution in itself. Only 4 items on the menu apart from tea and coffee.
Vadas were surly out of the world, idli was good and the chutney had very balanced taste.
Quick service, clean and well served.
Undoubtedly the best place for South Indian food. Medu vada is the best I have ever had. Service is quite fast. But you can expect a queue. Place is clean, well organised. Idly just melts in mouth, filter coffee is quite good as well.
Had been here almost 5-6 before with family...present in the center of bangalore which serves the best idli chutney in the surroundings and the best part is there is a seperate counter where u can get extra chutney. The vada are crispy till the last bite and last but not the least the coffee in the pinnacle dish here which has its own fan base.
Great breakfast place. The food was excellent and the staff was very polite and helpful. The peaceful atmosphere of the place added to the experience. It is a must visit for everyone visiting Bangalore for the first time.
Quintessential Bangalore breakfast spot. One of the must visit place serving arguably best Idli Vade and Chutney.
Authentic Old Bangalore Vibes!
Don't hesitate to get extra chutney for your idly, vada, kharabaat ... They pour it like sambhar. And it's worth it 👌🏼
Coffee is again superb. Strong, medium, less (sugar less) ... And of course, by two.
An iconic place. Consistently good food. Fast service. Everything here is spectacular! Idli vadE, kesaribath, kharabath, coffee. Excellent value for money. They have chosen to maintain quality and not opt for scale or open branches. Amazing place, amazing food!
An iconic place. Tried soft idlys, chow chow bath and coffee. Tasted good. Clean and fast service
