So yesterday my husband and I, along with another couple friend of ours, chanced upon this 2 month old restaurant in HSR layout called Rashtrakutas.
We actually were headed for another restaurant in the vicinity which turned out to be more of a canteen/mess than a restaurant. We switched gears and ended up at this gem of a place right opposite our original destination.
Rashtrakutas was warm, spacious and offered some of the most simply prepared yet supremely delicious food. We had the best butter milk and veg biryani in a while. Non-vegeterians in the group really enjoyed their Mutton Biryani version. Their gulkand ice cream was a revelation and we devoured it in seconds.
This authentic Nati place was nothing short of sensational. The staff was extremely hospitable and given the place was not completely full, had even more time to service us with abundant leisure. Also, it was really easy on the pocket and that did not hurt for sure :)
Highly recommend the place. Watch out for this one! They deserve to get big

Namma Bengaluru's best and finest Donne biriyani . Good service, nice ambiance and Awesome taste.I tried almost all the dishes in the menu but Donne biriyani was top notch. My mouth still waters when I think about it, will be visiting it soon. Finally for me this remains the benchmark for Biryanis! That's it!
Rashtrakutas is a perfect place for those who wants to have food in a homely atmosphere. In one word to say it's simply superb

Came here for lunch with couple of friends. This place has got a peaceful ambience especially the lighting is great. They have ample seating space too. We had ordered the rashtrakuta chicken thali- which had rotis, paysam(dessert), raita, rassam, four varieties of chicken, donne rice and regular rice. Along with the thali we also ordered a nattu kodi fry(country chicken; tasty and spicy).The food was good and super filling. Overall this place is worth visiting if you are around HSR.
This is the first time I had donne biryani and it is awesome. The authentic Karnataka dishes served here are great. I loved the mutton soup and chicken curry.

Rashtrakutas, situated on the 19 Main road at HSR Layout, catches attraction of all pass-byes. So this place was in my wishlist from quite sometime.
One Saturday afternoon, I planned to dine-in here. The timing here is 12pm. Being unaware we reached 10-15 mins early, but we didn't have to wait much to get inside, thanks to the manager here.
When we entered inside, I loved the ambience. The country style theme with slow music and dim light provides a good atmosphere. Walls reflect the beautiful country side culture. Crowd is very good, mostly family crowd. There's enough sitting area to accommodate quite a good number of people.
Coming to food. It claims to serve authentic Karnataka style food. The chicken and prawn starters that we ordered were really good, cooked in authentic home-style, tastes delicious and quite different than the usual restaurant style masala overloaded recipes. The food was served on brass utensils with banana leaf on it, I loved the serving way. Now the main course Time. Here I would give a negative mark for the Mutton Masala. Though the gravy was good,but mutton wasn't properly cooked giving that raw smell. I am not sure if that's everyday's scene. Somehow after finishing the main course, we were waiting for the dessert which was order at the beginning itself. But the staff lacks the coordination so much that they missed to give the dessert and got us the bill. We layer had to ask for the dessert. The gulkand ice-cream was too creamy and tasty. It was drooling as if made from pure milk.
Overall, the experience at Rashtrakutas was good except the Mutton and uncooperative staff. They have a Sunday special Breakfast menu, which I would like to try another day and add it to my review.
This is good place if you want to have some donne nati style food.
The restaurant is very very spacious. Ambience is simple and peace for eyes.
Food is delicious, we ordered their famous mutton and chicken thalis. Mutton curry was the tastiest dish followed by authentic donne Biryani. You can opt for chapati or ragi mudde.
We tried Akki rotti here and it was the best tasting Akki roti I ever had.
Each dish was tasty and adding to the authenticity they wanted to achieve.
Chicken curry was just okay.
Authentic traditional hygienic food, Mutton dishes are delicious, Thalis are filling and very tasty.
Village like setup, Good value for money.
We had heard a lot about this place for it's authentic Karnataka cuisine. We finally decided to try this place for a quick dinner.
The interior is very spacious clean and we'll lit. They have a very antique interior with wall painting and chettinad style tiles.
The food was delicious and the service was quick. We order a mutton thali, paneer butter masala and plain rice. Would definitely recommend this place.

This place I chose for lunch and the Ambience is quite simple and elegant. Just about the homely feeling! We ordered the Donne mutton Biryani and Rava fish fry, it was just too perfect 👌 the spice, taste and with a good amount of mutton pieces. The rava fish was crisp on the outside and tasty on the inside😋 if you want a simple casual meal, this place is worth it! The service is quick and staff is great too. I would definitely visit again to try the other stuff on the menu.
Have been visiting this place very often time & again atleast 20+ times have seen the consistency in their menu items availablity and also the taste of their dishes are truely andhra taste.. its jus not me even for my family this is one if our fav. spot.
Special mention about the service staff.. we get so excited when it comes to placing the orders.. however the staff ensured that we order right quantity rather than too much in ending up food being wasted.. or burning our pocket unnecessarily,

This is one place which I have found hasn't got that much credit which it deserves. Excellent south Indian style of food preparation. I have tried their whole menu and I can say all their dishes are always good, never disappointing. Their Thali's are very good and hearty. I like their Mutton biriyani and Chicken rastrakutas the most.
The only thing which I didn't like is their variety of desserts. I hope they improve both in the quality and in variety in this aspect.
If you want a relishing local chicken Karnataka style food, than this is a must visit place, located next to Cult, HSR.
It's a quite old place, with decent interior design. We started our dinner with,
Seer fish tawa fry, yummy and delicious tender fish served with Indian spices
Nati kole fry, local chicken cooked in mud vessel with Indian spices
Chicken thali, God it had so many items, chicken chilly, chicken masala, mixed sabji, rasam, raita, butter milk, gulab jamun, chicken dry fry, ground nut chuttney, akki roti and masala rice 😋
We had an amazing mouthwatering dinner. Thank you 😊
But a bit overrated when it comes to other Karnataka specialized kitchens

Absolutely mouth watering biryani.
But one drawback is that you should visit this place only on Sundays and Fridays because thats when they make a fresh batch of Biryani. The rest of the days is real meh, because it is from the previous day.
For a traditional natti taste do visit rashtrakutas. Ambience is beautiful with wall paintings and feel at home look. Courteaous staff as well. Most underrated restaurant in HSR . I highly recommend to give it a try
Must try dishes : Natti kolli biriyani, mutton thala mamasa, mutton boti fry, chilly chicken .
Each dish has it's own unique taste unlike other restaurants where every dish tastes of similar masala.
Food tasted really spicy and awesome. Especially the curry which was given with biriyani was priceless. Good ambience, good service. If you like too spicy food, this is recommended.
Recommended by a colleague went there to try out Ragi Mudde (Ragi Balls) along with the regular stuff. Ordered a thali which had the Ragi Mudde in in ... Its bland in itself but goes great with the spicy gravies and dishes... the ambience was nice .. little dark themed even during day time .. the thali looked good and tasted even better... will visit again
Off late we were carving for some spicy tempting dinner then we could find Rashtrakutas on the way,so decided to have it a try when we entered the place it was so amazing,interiors were very attractive and gives a feel that you are in calm and cool village with great lighting.Food taste was very blissful specially chicken kakinada as starter and main course as chicken masala and plain dosa was so crispy and tasty it gives a great taste and a must go place.

The place and ambience is really good. The restaurant is very spacious. The dishes are served in real classy glass and wares. Ordered a chicken thali. It was really good. Have at least 4 variety curry, raita, butter milk and payasam
This place is really nice if you’re a fan of good old village style food I went there just for a quiet dinner with my lady love and the ambience was awesome the lamps are old school lantern style which add that touch of old world charm
Coming to the food I loved it I ordered the liver masala which was great, the goat head (mutton thalley) was good too and the Donne biryani was simple and flavourful.
The only one dish that to me was so so was the mutton paya soup which tasted more like Andhra style rassam to me but other than that loved all the village style food.
Service is good and the place is clean and tidy and the village painting on the walls is a treat to the eyes.
Definitely going back here.

Their decent ambience pulls you away from the busy city life.. They have a limited menu but every item is very much authentic. We have ordered chicken meal, Paya Soup, Akki roti and chicken chops.. Order was served quickly and to be true, from the first sip of paya soup to the last spoon of kheer in meals the taste was delicious.. earlier i have visited the rashtrakutas for a sunday breakfast but that didn't impress my to pen down a review.. but today's Dinner is definitely worth the time and words.. will surely be visiting again but with a little gap 😉
Now I don't need to travel all the way to Shivaji Military Hotel at Banashankari for a portion of Mutton donne biriyani. I loved their Kadai paneer as well.
Soothing interior, courteous staff, reasonable prices and authenticity about their dishes are other things that were really impressive.
Will definitely be visiting this place again soon to explore more.

This is our go to place. It's a wonderful place with a simple ambience and we often make impromptu trips to Rashtrakutas. We have ordered chicken thali, mutton thali, mutton biryani, cicken biryani often. The service is prompt. Though if you go there after 9 P.M. you might not get what you wish to eat which happened to us on one occasion. But we will definitely go there again.Raman Kapoor

This place is a hybrid of Andhra and Karnataka. Typical non- veg food like Mutton Kheema gojju , head curry and chilly chicken kabab are too good. Ambience is good.
It has a good village themed ambiance , the food was good but options In the menu are very limited specially for veg ,maybe it’s the place for non-veg !
Tried the mutton and chicken thali. Loved both! Although it would be better if they replaced the mutton liver with a dry mutton fry in the mutton thali. Nice ceylon paratha too.
Spacious and clean. The ambience is great for a quiet homely meal. The colorful cartwheel outside is a fun addition.
Biriyani was a bit spicy...
It is a luxury version of a military hotel, with similar food options and taste. Ambience was great and apt, very welcoming, spacious with solid furniture and cutlery. We had Chicken Thali and Mutton Thali, which were exceptional. It provides a great way to get introduced to Karnataka Nati/Village cuisine.

Autentic south style dishes, Good place for non vegetarians. People can enjoy Dosa with mutton/chicken masala or have keema Dosa.
We ordered Chicken Masala and Ceylon Paratha and coin parotta. Taste was good and they have not compromised on the spices.
Very warm and homely ambience , neatly maintained. Delicious food and authentic cuisine. Except the service is too slow. Otherwise it deserves a five star .
egg curry was little sweet. If spicy , would go well with parotta and idli. Otherwise experience was soo good.
The best Donne Biriyani I ve had so far. We felt like having some ragi mudde and zeroed in on this place. All the dishes ordered - the mutton thali, the biriyani and the mutton chops, we're good. The ambiance is decent as well. 3.5 would be the apt rating but since there is no option for that, rounding it to four.

It's a restaurant mainly for non vegetarians. Vegetarians have very less options. We don't have dedicated parking. One thing to improve is, the service. Very slow service.
Good option for nati style food, ambience is good and food is tastier. Prices are reasonable. Service could have been a little quicker.

The restaurant looks grand from the outside and was easy to spot. It was an overall decent experience with the location, food, pricing and ambiance.
- Product pricing, quantity and quality -
The prices were reasonable for the taste, quality and quantity of food served. The service was reasonably quick, both veg and non veg options were good and they were so generous with the quantity that we had to parcel some back home.
- Space -
The interiors are spacious and the tables are laid out quite far from each other.
- Ambiance -
The whole restaurant was built in the shape of a huge hut, and it added to the ambiance. The only negative was that even with multiple air conditioners, the interior was hot enough to sweat a little, and the spiciness of the food didn't help.
- Crowd -
The place was almost full when we went but we got a table pretty easily.
- Navigation accuracy -
The navigation was accurate the place is easy to locate even while driving.

All routes suggested by Google Maps are accessible easily via 2/4 wheelers.
A very different place for your meaqls. It has a very nice feel to it. Has a homely feeling with the flooring made of old design tiles and the centre space which is open.
The food is tasty. Tried the Chicken biriyani, mutton and fish fry. Fish was ok. It was very dry and not very tasty. Biriyano was excellent.
One of the best place to try authentic Natti style food, tasty flavoured bryani which is finger Licking good, chicken curry is good , however muddae is average made, rest of the menu is 90% non veg, huge dining area, good place to hangout for Natti style lovers

Really great ambience. Has the rustic look inside. With wall paintings and paint frames, the place looks like you are literally in the pastures. Had neer dosa with veg kolhapuri which was brilliant. Even paneer chilly was decent. All in all a nice place to dine, for local cuisine lovers.
Went there to try their Non Veg Thali and must say it is definitely bang for the money. The kind of variety and taste it offers is truly great. Must try for all.

Good taste at reasonable rates.
Does not look like a great place to eat from outside, but quite spacious from inside. Waiters are dressed casually, but the service and taste of the food is good.

This place is a paradise for Non-veg lovers. First, the ambience is great. It gives the feel of dining in an old mansion. The art pieces, lighting and the murals are beautiful. Their menu card is in fact a frame, and their utensils, cutleries are full desi style. The staffs are attentive. We had to wait approx 10 mins for our food to be served. The food is exceptionally delicious, which made the wait worth. Every single item in the Weekend special chicken Thali was amazing. Veg Hyderabadi was too good. The coin parottas here are a little bigger in size and comes as 2 pieces. Ceylon parotta was okayish - a little rubbery and difficult to chew. Leaving this out, we had a wonderful dining experience. Would definitely recommend this place!

It's all based on south indian cuisine which is very good to taste. So do check this place out with your friends or family.
Good place to try authentic Karnataka non veg food. Weekend this place is crowded so be prepared for long wait time and service delays. We ordered Nati Kori sarru, chicken masala, dosa, chicken Sukka, coin parota and Donne Biryani. All food items were good. Highly recommend for non veg food lovers and for someone who wants to try authentic Karnataka non veg food.
Get them some more stars for the taste of the food prepared. They serve the food in copper plates and copper glass which really matches the ambiance. We had ghee rice, prawns, paneer, dal and believe me the ghee rice took all the points with it. The food is light and you won't fill heavy post having the meal. We never felt that any of the spices were out of proportion thats the best thing.
Outstanding place especially if you're a fan of local Karnataka cuisine. Akki roti, ragi mudde, pepper chicken, pudina chicken, mutton chops and biriyani are excellent. The only hassle is lack of parking facility, and customers need to find a place in any of the adjoining lanes. Prices are very reasonable.
