Went for the Onam Saadya! Had a sumptuous Mallu lunch in a pristine environment. Friendly host and warm service by all the staff. Neat and tide place. Have heard a lot about their Akki Rottis, will try them out soon!

Sabudana vada + chai at Anju's cafe at Rangashankara = Bliss :)
Since the cafe is inside the theater premises, most people discover it only when they are visiting for a play. Same applies to me. I visited Ranga Shankara yesterday for a play and tried this place due to convenience. We ordered Sabudana Vada, Vada Pav, Sabudana Khichdi, Appam with veg stew, Jaljeera, buttermilk and tea.
The food was simple, not oily, spices were perfectly balanced. The sabudana vada were beautifully crunchy and went well with the mint chutney. Vada Pav seemed authentically Mumbai-like. Sabudana Khichdi was brilliant as well. But appam was the stand out. It was freshly prepared and was served hot. It was soft with the perfect texture and served with coconut based veg stew that gave it "made in heaven" company. The jaljeera and buttermilk was decent but the tea is recommended. Not many people will agree but making a good cuppa is an art and these guys know it.
The biggest surprise was the bill at the end of this elaborate order, which was just short of 500 rupees. It is ridiculously low priced for the flavor and variety on offer. The staff is friendly and courteous.
Next time I will visit this place for food alone and not if there is a play. Can't give any better praise. I will be surprised if more people dont do it already.
NOTE: They have non-veg options as well but I was already full so didnt try anything. They have sandwiches, pasta etc as well but we stuck to few Indian preparations and were truly surprised.

Love anju’s cafe anytime. Good place to hang out with friends with homely tasty food. Just can’t keep my hand off the sabudhana vada, vada pav,Akki n Ragi rotti with some masala chai👌🏻. My kid loves it equally for the pastas and sandwiches . Yet to try their appams as I never get around to try them after all my fav items😃
If you are in JP nagar and want to have some good time Surrounded by artistic souls, bingo this is for you
at RangaShankara theater here you can see the awsum plays and have grt food too
Location: exactly inside RangaShankara theater
Ambience: This place has all paintings and art sculptures around it, just normal wooden benches outside cafe there are trees so this place is has cool brezz .
Food: I Ordered 2 items from their special menu, appam and curry(veg curry) also akki roti.
curry with appam was delicious it was coconut curry and taste was really good, was giving all the right flavors in mouth, and chatani and akki roti also was yumm,
Cost: Cost is really reasonable . only 260 for 2 ppl .
Will I be visiting this place: ya surely I will
Overall: good place food is grt.
The one place for a theatre lover to dine in an atmosphere full of art and creativity. The akki rotti is at its best here. It is served with onion chutney which is perfectly prepared. Sabudana vada would be available in the evenings. Paratha are hot and tasty.
If you are a theatre lover or a bibliophile this is one place you must visit.
All time favorite
This is one of those cafe's where you can go to catch up on your work, meet up fiends or go with family for a casual snack/meal. Small menu but pretty inclusive of various taste buds. Their Akki Roti and Sabudana vadas are my all time favorites. Cozy atmosphere with natural light and air and comfortable seating.
A peek into other options: Sandwiches, Pasta, Appam with stew/curry, Biryani, Parathas, Rotis n gravies, Vada pav, Samosa and many more..
Their Onam Sadya is to die for..
Great Ambience, nice quiet place for chit chat and work. The herb butter toast and pasta are to die for! Enjoy dinner her after watching a play at Rangashankara for a perfect evening.
-A typical rustic setting inside Rangashankara.
-A good spot to catch up on your favorite book or hang out with your friends.
-The food is good and relatively inexpensive.
-Sabudana Vada and Akki Rotti with Pudina Chutney is highly recommended.
Overall Rating 3.5/5
Love the ambience.. a great place to just relax after a play.. inside the rangasankara building.. don't miss the sabudana wada, vada pao.. akkibroti.. rest all stuff is good to ok. Worth trying out once if u r in the locality.
Visit regularly over the weekends over the last 3-4 years Rustic ambience, awesome place to catch up with pals, and hangout. Food is really good - personally a big fan of the kheema pav, akki roti, bhel, pasta, vada pav and kokam juice. The staff are very helpful and accommodate requests for customisations.
The place is awesome.
Akki roti and Spanish omlette are must try.
The wada pav is delicious and one of the best one in Bangalore.
Food here followed by a play adds couple of stars more.
This place is suitable for some quiet time you wana spend n have some food along. Since this place has reviews on Sabudhana Vada written all over it, tried that and it was Okay ! Not a must try place but can try once for a quick food.
Best best best sabudana vada I have ever had in Bangalore!!
This place is really nice and almost everything here which I have tasted so far is really tasty.
Have had Appam and vegetable stew. The stew is really authentic and tasty. Mushroom pasta Alfredo was also delicious. Have had pudina pyaar Parantha which was yummy and left me wanting more.
Once had Chicken masala gravy and phulkas, the gravy was very tasty with all indian masalas and chicken succulent and phulkas was like home made !!
Had buttermilk which was also tasty.
Love this place!!
Ask for the off the menu pasta . it is awesome. Perfect light lunch. And their ice tea is worth worshiping. It is sad they don't sell it by the liter.
Love: The Akki Rotti. I like em sometimes... But it's been awesome here , evertime
Like: Sabudhana vada. Im sure, sales testify.
Remember, this is at Ranga Shankara. So come in at 6.30 pm..... Eat .... Wait in line ... Experience theatre.
Calm, cozy and serves good food !! Everything about this place gives a rustic vibe. Limited menu. We tried the pasta, aloo paratha, aloo tikki , badam milk, hot chocolate and jal jeera. Nothing disappointed us and we loved the pasta and the hot chocolate. An ideal place to relax, read a book and munch away.
Anju's Cafe is one place where one can enjoy tasty hot piping snacks and enjoy the lovely classic ambience. It is an Arty feel to it thanks to Rangashankara. The sabudana vada, bhel puri, akki roti and other chats are just sumptuous. It is a nice place to hang out and have lovely conversations and to your luck you may bump into wonderful theatre artists. It is self-service but the snacks and food id prepared very quickly. And it is light on the pockets as well.
Biggest positive: laid back ambience
Negative: limited veg options for short eats
Located in the ground floor of Ranga Shankara, the drama theatre. The ambience has an open feel to it, the wooden benches and style of tables give it a simple yet classic feel. It is self service. Dishes prepared Reasonably quick. Bustling with people just before the show in the theatre.
The food is decent. They have a variety of type of food items, from Akki rotti's and chats to pastas. Tried only the chats at this place before a show. The Bhel puri was good. Quantity is decent too. The prices are kept very reasonable.
On the whole, it's a good place to grab a snack before the show in Rangashankara or even a leisure snack/working break by yourself.
As usual a nice place and can never go wrong with this one. Been regular for years though simple menu has a lot to offer. One other certainty is the freshness in their food.
Must try!! A simple n nice place in Ranga shankara..
This is hands-down one of the most pocket friendly cafes in this area . The ambience is perfectly maintained for any one to have a nice chat or for the people watching the play to grab a quick bite before getting into the live theatre . The sabudana vadas are crispy , perfect for my liking . Vada pavs, akki roti , etc . Taste delicious. The lemon ice tea is a must try for cold tea lovers .
I absolutely love this place.. it's located inside Rangashankara..they serve crispy hot akki rotti.. and the best ginger tomato chutney with it.. Sabudana vada and kokum juice are my personal favourite..
Perfectly situated inside the artistically designed theatre space - ranga shankara, this cafe has a variety of snacks to offer.
I particularly go there for the ambience and the filter coffee (reminds me of Prithvi theatre, mumbai)
One of my favorite hangout places. Love being at rangashankara. And this little cafe extension managed by Anju, is pretty warm and relaxing.
Food...Sabudana vada, Kheema Pav topped with half done gooey egg, is just brilliant!
Hot chocolate is just yumm.
The tiled roof, greenery around, the theater crowd, and yup you might run into Girish Karnad, Rajat Kapoor, and Frequently Arundhati Naag.
I love being there!! :)
Just love the vibe and food at this iconic cafe. Akki rotti, vada pav and sabudana vadas are known favourites here. This time I tried the Chicken Ghassi with appams and it was pretty good..soft, spongy appams and a not too heavy but well spiced curry. The kiddo was happy with her Alfredo pasta. We also tried the chicken popcorn and it was pretty darn addictive.
Not a place for tasty fud, but gud to enjoy chit chat with small group.
Likes- open air ambience, ambient space between tables, fresh things to munch (includes Indian menus...saboothana vada was gud), interior locality - off from main rd, no plastics.
Dislikes - no tasty fud (but not bad), small tables enough only for 4, no swipe machine.
Sabudana Vada ... I had never had that in life... And this was an ideal place to have it ... Simply awesome ... Anju's Cafe @ Rangashankara ...

It is quite easy to locate since it is inside the Ranga Shankara theatre complex. A chilled out place with a decent variety of quick bites to basic eats.
The wait can some times be annoying but the food is finger licking good. The Akki rotti is crisp, semi circular n uniformly cooked. It is served with yummy chutney.
I tried the sabudhana Vada. It was a bit cold or else tasted great. People ordered pasta n fries n so on. A bustling place.
Will visit again n again.
Excellent food. Ordered kheema pav and tea. Bread was done just warm and the kheema was delicious. Washed it down with milky tea.
Emboldened, ordered mango custard. It came in a standard chai glass. Delicious. It was very fresh.
Awesome place. Will definitely come again.
It's one of my fav places !! This place s juz warm n welcoming, but sumtimea it's jam packed during the play hours(cafe s associated wid a theatre), the food n snacks are usually good, if u visit dis place den u shud surely taste der akki roti, herb toast, cheese omlet yumm yumm!! And of course der veg white sauce pasta !
Located inside Ranga Shankar theatre, Anju's Cafe is a really nice place to sit and catch up with friends, while having yummy, pocket friendly food that is wholesome and interesting
Muffins are pretty good and goes well with the tea so are other snacks, even sandwiches are good. The place is definitely value for money and recommend. Never get tired of going here.
Good food but service is a little slow. Also, people should learn to queue because 10 people at the counter ordering stuff at the same time isn't very efficient.

Been a regular here. But was pleasantly surprised to find appam and veg stew as an new addition. The stew was amazingly fresh and the appams light and fluffy. But never got the logic of the appam+stew combo coming with only 2 small sized appams. Probably only for the real light eaters. Ordered 2 more to complete the meal with a kokum and jal jeera to wash it down. A little warm but the food makes up for it.
This rating is only for the sabu daana vada and aapam with veg stew ..And maybe even for the hot chocolate .. Do try these and am sure you won't regret .. Not heavy on the pocket, this place is for those people who want to laze around and read a book in peace :) ..il keep coming!
It's a cute , warm and a welcoming cafe at ranga shankara .Being a regular visitor to rangashankara since the beginning of time , I have observed the growth of this cafe.
It had started with snacks like sabudana vada, samosa, kachori etc. and now they have full fledged food menu with all varieties.
What I love about this cafe is that the food is very homely and it feels good eating them.
This time I had lemonade for a drink and it was almost the same as how we make it home and I felt really happy about it.
The vada pav was amazing with the chilli and the Green chutney.
The pasta however was disappointing as they had beans to the white sauce pasta and that's a real sin.
The appam and the stew was brilliant. No complaints.
The akki rotti however was prepared slightly different and it wasn't done in a pan like the way it's usually done and the structure was exactly like appam . The taste of it was fine but It was way too thick for a rotti. The chutneys served alongside were great.
Overall ,
Love it and I will always come back again :)
Expansive and peaceful setting for a snack or meal before theatre or go just for the ambience. Egg biriyani was slightly bland and would have been better served with some pickle. Carrot dessert was great. You have to order at the counter.
I finally got an opportunity to witness a live theater at 'Ranga Shankara' last week, Thanks to Sidd, my dear friend and flatmate. Thanks to him again for underestimating the Bangalore traffic, such that we reached the venue half-an-hour late and no option but to spend some time @ Anju's Cafe (the awesome cafe on the ground floor of Ranga Shankara), till the interval.
Must say it was better that we reached late, b'coz we got to experience one of the most amazing cafe's in Bangalore, with the finest ambiance, hospitable staff and great food. The ambiance of the place is so awesome, that it intrigues creativity and conversation. Sidd and I sat there for around half an hour, during which we had 'Appams & Veg Stew', 'Tulsi Tea' and 'Gupshup' (a nice healthy snacking option @ Anju's), but don't remember if we were silent even for a minute - and when I say that we were 'not silent', I mean that we were having quality conversation, thanks also to the positive ambiance created by beautifully light paper chandeliers, comfortable chairs and tables.
A must visit place in Bangalore..Next time instead of booking tickets for a boring movie, go and watch an intelligent play and eat at Anju's :)
One of my favorite hangouts in Bangalore! I particularly love the sabudana vadas and akki roti here.. Love the ambience, nice and breezy. Great place for an evening with friends /family! Also, its a good idea to load yourself up on snacks from here before catching a play at Ranga Shankara.
Best Akki roti and biriyani i ever had. Sabu Dana vada is awesome and must try. Snacks menu, food menu is good. Cost effective and yummy food. Usually crowded during the play hours.
We frequent this place a lot. The food is tasty and served quickly without any fuss. Appams with stew and banana custard is really good. My husband likes the misal pav. Anju's friendly presence and all the beautiful arty people adds to the charm of the place.
Located inside Ranga Shankar theatre, Anju's Cafe is a really nice place to sit and catch up with friends, while having yummy, pocket friendly food that is wholesome and interesting. Try the Akki Roti when you go there and be sure to have the Banana Custard! The coffee is nice and strong, just the way it should be and goes very well with the Sabudana Vada that is sold in the evenings.

Best akki roti in town. Crisp and topped with gun powder. They are also known for their sabudhaana vada.
The above ones are my favourite. However, their menu also has sandwiches, chaat, pasta, vada pav, cold coffee, etc
The place is definitely value for money and recommend. Never get tired of going here.
The café is located inside Rangashankara. I have visited it several times over the years. I never knew it had a name.:) The same lady runs cafés at other institutions in Alliance Française and NGMA.
The snack items are yummy. Sabudana vadas are a hit among my Banglorean friends and i was glad to introduce to them this lovely snack from Weat India. I won't stay its the best cos i get to eat the best; courtesy mom ;)
My friends swear by the keema pav and chicken items. I have had lunch here and enjoyed the light pulav and noodles. It is self service and the menu is written on a black board at the counter. I have not tried the continental dishes here. The counter guy and the cooks look adept at handling Indian dishes so i stick to it. Coffee is to die for.
It's a nice place to hangout and have long conversations. If you have the tine, then you can book and watch a play. What a bonus!
I relented giving 4 rating cos i would not take my family here. My father found it too cumbersome to climb down the steps. The café offsets the landing of the theatre and i have seen people fall hard. The place is not meant for boisterous crowds, gettogether or kids.
Couples, bunch of friends wanting to catch up? Go for it. Parking available at parallel roads and crosses. Prices are very wallet friends. Do not think cards are accepted here though, pls check.

A Sadhya is a variety of vegetarian dishes traditionally served in Kerala during festivals, weddings and other social events. Served typically on banana leaf, this feast comprises of many dishes served as a single course, in quick succession. Anju’s café, at Ranga Shankara in JP Nagar, does one such Onam special sadhya annually, served in 3 batches starting 12pm. We booked ourselves in the first slot, and reached the venue to find a complete transformation to the urban hangout that it normally is. There were benches lined up, with paper and banana leaves spread out. There was a beautiful pookalam at the entrance, and food was being brought out in steel buckets. Men in white mundu and shirts, and ladies in traditional beautiful mundum neriyathum – white sarees with golden borders, attending to the event and serving food.

My first experience eating Onam Sadhya was at Anju's on Sunday. Anju's Cafe at Ranga Shankara, JP Nagar, served 3 batches, starting from 12 to 3, serving over 25 items that are delicious and freshly made. This sadhya is priced at Rs.520 per person. The service was prompt and quick. The batches are 1 hour long, so the eating had to be quicker than some could manage!
They also had these quaint little mementos with your favorite sadhya dish name painted on it.
Its always been Ranga Shankara Cafe up until now. Whether it is a herb toast you gobble down before you catch a play or the akki roti you have when you're lazing around - you'll admit, gotta come back and try the rest. Quick bites, definite recommendation
Warm, relaxed cafe...very artistic crowd... It's a different theatre experience... You see the talent...with energy...speciality is the Akki rotti... Some decent grub...nice...
Located inside Rangashankara campus, Anju's cafe is one of my favourite hangout places. The Vada Pavs are yummy and Sabudhana vadas are super yummy.
What to try?
Akki Rotti, Vada Pav, Sabudhana Vada, Khus juice.
What not to try?
Hot Chocolate
When to go?
Evenings, this is not a lunch/dinner place.
Nice outdoor place to eat with all Artsy people
Kheema masala, Kheema Biryani , Akki Rotti stands out.
good for regular eat out
This is a small cafeteria inside Ranga Shankara that's open to non-ticket holders as well. Good place to grab a bite before going to the play.
Really tasty food, but portions are a bit less considering the price. Service is decent, but you'll have to come at a time when the play is not about to start or end (as it will be crowded at that time)
PS: Do try their Chicken Kheema Pao... Its yummm!!!
I would have rated it 4 unless it was for the poor service. We ordered saboodana vada and akki rotti with different varieties of coffee. Set in rangashankar theatre at jp nagar, you wont get cafe's name displayed outside. Ambience is bit alien as u c ppl with diff arts and theatre background lazying around there. Saboodana vada are hot n crispy with chilly, akki rotti was amazing and bit pricey and wait time of 15 mins to get it served. Coolest place to hangout with frens on lazy sat evening with hot coffee.
Good: saboodana vada, akki rotti
Bad: wait time of cooking
Free: ppl with theatre background
A nice find! Amidst all commercialised outlets. It's a easy find, once you know Ranga Shankara theatre. A rustic ambience, menu is displayed on the wall at the counter. They have some great varieties on various categories.
They are know for their Akki rotti its just amazing. I've had pav with kheema masala and I must say it was one of the best kheema masala I've ever had. The banana custard was also hearty.
They have a nice collection of beverages, I myself had the Jaljeera. The food is not disappointing, infact it's lovely. I would come back here anytime for more.
Being a theatre buff, discovering Anju's cafe was inevitable. From being someone who rushes in at the last minute to catch the show, to coming early to drink a cuppa from Anju's - this transition was mostly thanks to the hot chai and vada pav served here.
I'd sing praises about the snacks here, they taste good and have a very homey vibe to them. However the ambiance here is just something else. Not swanky and posh but quiet, calming and unique - with that authentic old school Bangalore touch to it.
Opt for pastas over sandwiches and be prepared for a wait. If your visit coincides with a play coming up, there might be space crunch!
Stand-alone this place might have not received the accolades it does now, but nested amid the culture hub that it is, it's definitely a place you need to visit if you're catching a play!
The best coffee ever!! I would say best everything! A very homely ambience! Can spend time with friends and can also have informal meetings. Must try : Alfredo pasta and herb toast??
This is my most favorite cafe in south bangalore coz it has that real bangalore feel- simple and unpretentious. Diverse menu and fresh food pleases anyone's soul. Matched with good ambience and service.
This place looks very pretty in the evening with the lit lanterns and the wooden fence. Been visiting here since school days and never bored of it.
Cafe is closed on Mondays as the theater.
What to order- Their signature Akki roti and sabudana vada is my all time favorite. Very few places can make decent filter coffee and this cafe is one of them. Banana custard pudding is a must try and so are the egg burji fry with toast and carrot halwa.
It's unique coz of the calm and less noisy environment, total different experience than the loud noisy cafes in rest of bangalore.
So a huge thumbs up ? for this place anytime!!
It is located inside Ranga shankara. I have been going to this place with my friends for past few years.
Ambience is good and informal and gives you a nice rustic feeling.
Love the artistic things they keep putting up like the handmade lampshades and artwork.
Food is good. Love the Bhel puri. Really ,its the best Bhel puri u will find in this part of the town.
The place is calm but occasionally disturbed due to vehicles passing by.
You can relax and do your work or hang out with friends but you have to keep it down because of the Theater upstairs.
Awesome place to relish the best ‘Sabudana vadas’ in whole of Bangalore. A must have if you are in JP Nagar :) Top things I and my friends love to binge when we visit Rangashankara are:
Sabudana vadas (always on top of our list), VadaPav, Choco chip muffins, Chai and Ice tea.
My other favorite for a huge bite is mushroom omelet.
The best of all is Anju auntie’s warm smile at café, which garnishes our yummy memories.
If you are the rare soul who hasn’t stepped into Ranga Shankara’s food, you absolutely must for simple, satisfying fare.
Ambience - Open and roomy, feel free to kick back and stay on for as long as you like. But be prepared for the flip side of it on weekends when you might struggle to get a table.
Service - They keep it simple with self service, with them calling out the dish as it gets done; goes perfectly with the feel of the place.
Food - My absolute favorites are herb butter toast and akki rotti (as home-style as it can get). The drinks are quite good and quite consistent. I was recently blown away by the banana custard pudding. How can something so simple in concept be so stunningly good? The minor downside that comes to mind is the sabudana vada that goes cold as it is kept out.
Price - Sorry to rave but this place is the personification of good quality, VFM food.
Verdict - There is so much more the menu has to offer. I shall be making several visits.
When it comes to Ranga Shankara theatre, I love the place and Anju's seems like the appropriate atmospheric extension. Being new to the city, a few years ago, I loved grabbing a few sabudana vadas or even a few vada pavs, after exiting a play and enjoy it in the auto-ride back home, with whoever the autowala was.Having a long term fondness for kokum, was happy to see it here on the menu. Love their Akki Roti too and the staff is so caring and friendly that one can order it before the play and not wait too long after it is over, to have a piping hot meal waiting for you. What I've often wished for is a real signature chai and coffee, which is decent, but doesn't stand out.I love reaching an hour before the play and seeing the light change from the semi-visible vista, pick up a book from Usman's terrific bookshop and just read.A real flavor-ful chai or strong unique coffee, would add to what is already a pleasurable experience.
This is one Good place to spend ur time with friends, just before a theater stage show. The Ranga Shankara ambiance makes the place a very different setup all together. Try the Sabudana vada and the VadaPav with hot tea. Nothing like this for a light enjoyable snack!
As someone said, this is Bangalore's answer to Bombay's Prithvi theatre cafe (I do miss the Irish coffee though!)
Whether you want a really quick bite (sabudana vada is the most popular, though I think a bit more masla/ salt in the mix wd be great) or a quick meal before the evening play (most evening plays end really late for dinner), this is a nice friendly place - stereotypically looking arty...
I do love the keema pao and the parathas - the kids love the chicken sandwich and my husband the omelette.
The chai comes highly recommended, I didnt much like the kokum juice.
I think what makes this place superior is the location/ convenience, and the quickness of service.
I would think nice to hang out even if you aren't going to a play - you cd spot some theatre celbs too sometimes (and ofcourse catch the "free" performances that are sometimes done at the lobby
After hearing a lot about this cafe..I finally decided to try it out.
Well about the place , they have showed justice to their ambience by keeping it simple and elegant. It is a self service type system here. From the recommendations mentioned here..I ordered the famous akki roti and keema masala pav. Both of those dishes tasted amazing... the akki roti is must try here. Along with it we had sausage cheese and tuna mayo sandwich, they were good too.
Everyone must try out this place .Good food. Good price.
This place has the quintessential Bangalore feel. The atmosphere is relaxed and vibrant, the cafe is simple and unpretentious yet beautiful (particularly in the evenings), and the offerings quite delicious. The vibe here is great with Rangashankara's trademark buzz, with conversations flowing about the day's play, or politics, or Bollywood, pretty much anything, and with the host's keenness to ensure that all guests are having a good time. Don't forget to take her (unofficial) opinion on the production on offer and the plays to mark in your calendar in the coming weeks.
The food is tastefully done, very authentic and fresh. The menu is diverse ensuring that there is something to suit everyone's palette.
Value for money: Everything is very reasonable.
Personal favourites: Signature Akki Roti (takes some time to make but well worth the wait!), Sabudana vadas.
Watch out for: Annual Mango Festival and traditional Onam sadya.
Note: The cafe is closed on Monday which is when the theatre is also closed. On other days, the cafe shuts at 9.30 and dinner is by prior order only!
Head to this place to enjoy the perfect combination of theatre, openness and good food. Even if you are not a theatre enthusiast, I would recommend you to head over to Anju's Cafe.
I totally love the Sabudana vadas here, and they're like this customary thing everytime we go watch a play at rangashankara. They are crispy and chewy and taste so nutty. The vadapaavs are another good speciality.
Yet to get over these and try other things :)
The Akki rotti is "Made at Home", the sabudana vada is ever fresh and hot. Ambience and crowd is just perfect to make this an all time favourite. The Herb Toast is a must try! Very well flavoured and just the right heat when served. Anju's chaats are finger licking good, overall, try anything on the menu, and you might just find something that you'll relish!

One of the best of bengaluru!! Soul food n comfort food! The owner is warm , friendly n caring. Awesome atmosphere! Peaceful, healing and you can sit here for hours together. Except the mosquito s can become a lil too friendly????????????
Tulisi tea and Sabudana vada....Tea and Vada pav... Akki Roti. ....
Splendid food when you are waiting for the play to start.. Ambiance apt for a theatre but people managing this cafe gets confused when a crowd comes in...

Being some one from north who has always been fascinated with new culture , people and food , I always wanted to the try Onam sadya.
Bangalore being land of opportunities in terms of profession and food gave provided me lot of choices to have a onam sadya meal.
After much deliberation and expert consultation from my Mallu (Malyalam) friends, I zeroed down to the Anju’s Café at rangshankara for my maiden Onam Sadya.
The reasons was very simple , as I was looking for a homely onam sadya in a reasonable price.
For those who may be wondering what Onam Sadya is , let me tell them in brief.
A strictly vegetarian meal with Rice as its main ingredient, Sadya is served on a banana leaf with minimum of 4 dishes that include traditional pickles, papadam,Mulakoshyam and Koottukari.
As you will see in my pictures, the colorful arrangement of the food on the lush green banana leaves makes it even more tempting and undoubtedly irresistible.
The Onasadya or the Onamsadya here had 29 dishes which are as follows:
Jaggery Chips
Kai-chena
Thoran
Banana Chip
Aviyal
Papadam
Red Boiled Rice
Regular Steam Rice
Avil (red rice flakes with banana, jiggery and coconut)
Chammanthi (raw mango chutney)
Parrippu-nei
Kadumangaachar
Sambar
Naranga Achar
Kumbalanga Pulissery
Kalan
Injipuli / Puliinji
Rasam
Theeiyal
Kichadi
Sambharam / Butter milk
Olan
Ada pradhaman
Pavaka pachadi
Paripu payasam
Errisery
Banana
Cabbage Thoran
Betel leaf and nut
Karamani Thoran
It was a divine and festive experience for me having tasted numerous new dishes from the Malyali cuisine.
The food was extremely fresh and service was excellent.
Though I was not aware much of the real taste here but my fellow malayali friends could tell me that this have been one of the best onamasadya of Bangalore.
I would rate is 4/5 for the onamsadya meal.
An honest cafe with honest food. Almost anything I've had at Anju's Cafe tastes good, especially Sabudana Vada, Vada Pav with Chai. I used to mostly only go there before a play at Rangashankara. The last few times I had the chance to meet friends in the area and we ended up ordering Akki Roti, Kheema pav and Appam with Chicken curry. I hope this simple place stays the same forever as it stands for everything that Bangalore used to be.
This place is at rangashankara theater. So the crowd is mostly high on energy and vibrant you get to see the different shades of people and can just soak in the energy of the vibrant surroundings. The decor is very artistic, however they have not spent much money on it though so its simple and elegant.
It looks the best during night with all the lanterns lit up which adds to the entire experience of this place.
The food is a very simple affair here with very limited menu. "Akkiroti" its must try of this place, crispy hot akkiroti with yummy chutneys. Its one of the place in bangalore which serves best masala akkiroti.
If you are looking for a quick bite then the Sabudana vada is very good and filling.
All drinks in the menu is good. The tea and coffee at this place is very good.
Place to visit with: family, alone, friends.
Must try : masala akkiroti (It gets over very fast)This is self service place.
Paisa : The prices are very moderate and the value for money is very high.
Tip to the management : Please increase the amount of food during weekends when the footfall is pretty high. Also the billing and food management can be improved a lot.
Why this place : This place is peaceful and food is delicious. Its at Rangashankara theatre.
Ambiance : Its a huge place sort of open place, with typical old style wooden tables and chairs and benches. But this place is peaceful.
Food: "Akkiroti" its must try of this place, crispy hot akkiroti with yummy chutneys. Its one of the place in bangalore which serves best masala akkiroti. Sabudana vada is the fast moving item here, i like sabudana vada preparation of this place.
All drinks in the menu is good. Love the bannana custard what they prepare. Had pulav once even that was pretty decent.
Place to visit with: family, alone, friends.
Must try : masala akkiroti (It gets over very fast)This is self service place.I just love to visit this place.
Food portions: 7/10

It's different. Go for the atmosphere. Intellectually elevating conversations. Mosquito coils. Crazy costumes and chatters around. And an earthy mix of heartland dishes. I had the Akki roti. Am not sure it's there everyday as they have a different menu everyday. But it was a dish to relish. And then the gajar ka halwa. There is something very Bangalore about this place. Go on a random weekday(except Monday) in the evening around 6. Just before the play begins. You'll realise there is so much more to life. The food is great. But the charm is the ambience. And the people that fill it up.
This place is a surprising pearl hidden in Bangalore. After 10 years of travelling to Bangalore I find this place by accident, because for the first time I had time between meetings to go and see a play. I'm surprised people in Bangalore or even outsiders dont speak of it more. Anju's is a cafe attached to the theatre complex - Rangashankara. It has the perfect Theatre ambience. Its on the ground floor, is an open air cafe, benches and a mash up of a canteen/cafe style menu which offers a wide variety of stuff at cheap rates. If you are going for a play, plan to reach an hour early or stay back for dinner. Its totally worth it. Or if you stay close by, just drop in to have the lassi's or panna or the sabu dana wada.
We had the sabudana wada and lassi & panna before the play. Had keema matar with parathas with coffee after the play. The food comes in quickly and they are completely geared to cater to the play timings. It is typical canteen fare, oily and tasty food. Keema was good. We asked for aloo parathas with the keema even though its not an option on the menu they accommodated our request. The parathas were thickly stuffed and oily and perfect with the keema. Coffee was nice and strong, just the way I like it.
Go and watch a play at Rangashankara and stop by at Anju's . It has the potential to be the Triveni/SRC or Prithvi of Bangalore but no one seems to be thinking on those lines.
Anjus cafe @ Rangashankara is my favourite hangout joint. The ambiance is magical, the crowd is brilliant and the FOOD!!! just love It.
The cafe is friendly and makes its guests feel at home. Best place to catch up with friends for a long chat with some tasty food.
YOU MUST NOT MISS
THE AKKI ROTTI ...its yumm. Very traditional and exotic in its taste.
SABUDANA VADA ... light.. crispy and tasty
HERB TOAST. ..the best in town. The herbs and butter taste like heaven. And you can go for plate after plate with tea.
Many more such interesting dishes on the Menu. All taste like they sound and look i, e fantastic. The best thing about Anjus Cafe is that all this great stuff not only tastes good but is light on your wallet too.
Sit here in the dim lights... with the breeze occasionally caressing you, whilst you pour out your heart to a friend along with some food and tea.
:: ANJU'S CAFE @ RANGA SHANKARA ::
If you stay in JP Nagar, its quite possible that you heard about famous 'Rangashankara'. I knew about it for long, but never knew about small cafe inside. I heard about the cafe recently from a friend and visited the cafe twice for light dinner.
I tried these items - Akki Roti, Sabudana Wada, Appam, Arabiatta Pasta, Veg Club Sandwich, Alu Paratha, Kadai Chicken, Spanish Omlet, Masala Omlet, Gajar Ka Halwa, Brownie with Icecream, few varieties of tea, Cold Coffee etc
Almost everything was nice and tasty. Reasonable Prices. Its a casual cafe. Dont expect fine-dining place/food.
Recommended Items: Sabudana Wada, Akki Roti, Pasta
My Feedback: Cool place to have a nice cup of tea/snacks in evening.
Anjus' cafe.. ohh i just love this place.. so very calm, warm..homely :) I happen to visit the cafe coz of the play at Rangashankara.. but now in last couple of yrs time.. it has become by favorite hangout place ..
Almost every weekend I am here to relax, have a cup of tea with garam garam sabudana wadas.. chit chat with anju, her husband.. or the staff... I have met lots of new people here..
I have tried lot of items from the menu.. sabudana wada to vada pau to pastas to parathas to biryanis to akki roti.. spl Akki roti (pic attached) is my fav item in the menu now.. :)
If you want to be just yourself.. a cool calm place to do your work, read, etc.. with a nice cup of tea.. this is the place.. and at the same time a good place to hangout with friends.. meet new people.. chit chat..this is the place..
good food, good place, and an excellent host :)
Anju's cafe at Ranga shankara is one of those few places we never get bored of going over & over again. Must trys are - sabudana vada, filter coffee, egg bhurji pav, akki roti, vada pav, carrot halwa, peanut butter sandwich, bhel and methi paratha.. Every visit would have the same set of dishes repeated, without a miss. :)
Anjus cafe is located in the ranga shankara premises . Great food, lot of options..The whole team of anjus cafes seems very good..
Recommended dishes: sabudana Vada, akki rotti, ragi rotti, kokum juice, pasta
Anjus Cafe is a spot to grab a bite especially if you find yourself at Rangashankara theatre. The cafe has a lot of options in food and drinks, It's a fight between heart and brain.
I recently tried chilli cheese sandwich, pav bhaji and a steaming cup of coffee at Anjus Cafe. Sandwich was average, cheese was not fresh and tasty. Pav bhaji made us wait for 20 min since it was little crowded. Coffee was good.
Dishes are inspired from Marathi cuisine.
Sabudana vada and Masala Keema pav were authentic and matched flavours to the dot.
Mango Milkshake was okay, had artificial flavour added to it.
Ambience is rustic and calm, a chilled out place to hang out with your gang
10/10 on everything- food, quality, variety, service and staff. Been there very recently and enjoyed - Sabudana Vada, Classic Omelette with toast, Vada Pav, lime juice. Everything was delicious. Seating area is lovely, and gives a very cozy feeling. Sit and sip your tea kinda place.
Located inside RangShankara theatre and don’t think one can go inside without a show ticket.
This place is located inside Ranga Shankara, a prominent theatre in Bangalore. Modelled on the lines of the Prithivi cafe, the place served decent food. Sabudana vada and ice tea here are a go to snack for me. The service though is a bit languid.
It is fun to have some snacks and tea after the afternoon play at Anju's . We had good time while reflecting on all overall play & strong performances by different actors in the play.
This cafe is located on the ground floor of Rangashankara that serves yummy snacks. Their sabudana vada is the cherry on the cake. Good place to converse.
The Samosas were not so oily and the potato filling was delicious, Aloo Tikkis were pipping hot served with mint Chutney.
Their other specialties are Kokum Juice, Sabudana Khichadi, Chai, Akki Rotti. Just go and enjoy the ambience even though you don’t get the tickets to any plays 😉
The location is gound floor of Rangashankara theatre. Good and peaceful ambience
Penne Pasta and were okay
Sabudana Wadav is Must try .
Most of the menu items were available .
You've to place the order and pay initally at the counter and it's self service counter. Could take time if it's crowded.
Friendly staff speaks Hindi and English. Seating capacity of approx 25 pax.
Price is okay for the food. You can pay via card or UPI.
Good food and great atmosphere. Had some noisy customers fighting with each other but not the cafe's fault. Sabudana Vada tastes home cooked. Definitely recommend. Ginger Tea could have been better
We are regular visitors and fans of @rangashankara theatre for a whole set of reasons. But one of them also is @anjuscafe - the sabudana Wada and chai there is a custom before entering for any play or performance there. ❤️
The whole setup is so beautiful and theatrical in its own way, and now to add to our temptation , Anju’s cafe has started an “all-day-breakfast” series over the weekends( to start with).
It has and Indian breakfast pallet and English breakfast. What you see is the paneer version of the English breakfast (for us middlemen 😉).
The beauty is everything on that plate is home-made and organic. Even the bun and the jam.
So guys, do visit them. They are hungry for us regular theatre visitors to come and relish on their yummy food.
PS- all safety precautions wrt Covid are being taken care of. They advise you to remove your masks only while eating.
All the best @anjuscafe
I absolutely love this place.
This is a tiny little cafe with varities of dishes, beverages, desserts and snacks.
Had akki rotti, aam panna, coffee etc - all were amazing and sufficient in terms of quantity.
Prices are a bit high, but worth it.
Not to crowded on weekends, hence not much waiting.
Staff are kind and the service is quick too.
I always end up snacking here whenever I visit Ranga Shankara to watch a play. Love the type of crowd that visits this place, all calm n smart.
Located within Ranga Shankara theatre, this cafe has a lovely, easygoing atmosphere - like a college canteen with lovely views. A great place to work, daydream or spend a lively afternoon with spirited discussions. I'd go back here just for the vibe!
We accidentally discovered this place and we are in love with this place now. It is situated in the theatre's premises and serves great variety in the menu. My favourite ones being - Sabudana Vada, Chicken Keema Pao, Vada Pao, Tea.
The place is quite spacious and will give you a good feel. Best time to go in day time over the weekend or in the evening after rain.
Anju's cafe at Rangashankara
They have an amazing Anju"s cafe on the ground floor that encourages conversations between the cast and the crew and the audience. Qmbience of this cafe is good. Serves yummy sabudana vadas and chai as you wait for the gates to open.
This is my go to place for a relaxed evening.
Anjus cafe is really good for dine in as it situated in the premises of rangashankara . The food of anju cafe is scrumptious and very good with options with veg and non veg . The sabunda Vada is really good . I have also taken takeaway which is very good as piping hot and they also do delivery with the help of dunzo .. if a larger order they also do deliveries. I have used their food for parties the taste the service is very . The whole team of anjus cafes seems to very good . Kudos to the anjus cafe
I like the sabudana Vada & hot coffee
It's located in Rangashankara.
Calm place with hot coffee and vadas..hmmm
It's a perfect place to sit down with a cup of coffee and relax with beautiful bamboo wall around. The food was ok.
Had the best onam sadya this year..better than the four sadya I had called in the week of onam from four different Kerala restaurants. Place was property decked up and clean. But there were some issues, serving people did not have any idea on what they were doing, nothing was served on time... Anju, next year I am ready to volunteer for this job. It was disappointing, to not enjoy tasty food
