Brilliant food! Loved the biryani and the tunday kebab along with the lassi which is definitely recommended. The best part is the food is prepared right in front of you. Minus the biryani since you can't make biryani in the matter of an hour.
Kudos to Akshath for being a great host!

Came here with my friend, he used to enjoyed the Punjab's cuisine in here.
I tried their Chicken Biryani, taste super good and drink 2 kind of lassi.

The decoration is antique and the owner are great for services.
I recommend this place to you.

'Qissa khawani' is an explosion of taste contained in a tiny box.

This tiny little eatery is located in church street and is easily noticeable. When I say tiny, I mean it. Literally. There's absolutely no place to walk, let alone sit. Barely 6 people can be seated at a time. There's no ventilation either. You'll always find people waiting outside to get a seat. So it's best you go early and grab yourself a seat.

The food is the highlight here. It's lip smacking. I had never experienced food like that before.
Here's what we had ordered:
1. Butter chicken - TOO GOOD. Couldn't get enough of it. It was delectable.
2. Mutton seekh - it was the first time I had tried mutton and I absolutely loved it! MUST TRY.
3. Naan
The food (in terms of quality) is spectacular. Hands down. No complaints whatsoever. The quantity though is very poor. For the price you're paying the food you get is very little. But there's absolutely no compromise in taste. So it doesn't really matter. Also, they serve the food in foam containers and it's quite irritating to be honest. Nonetheless, the food is the stronghold here and it definitely doesn't dissappoint.

The service is slow. There were just two people. It took forever for the food to come. There's definitely scope for improvement.

Overall, 'Qissa khawani' is extraordinary. The quality of food here is just something else all together. You cannot get enough of it. Definitely a MUST VISIT!

Overall rating:

Service - 2/5
Ambience - 3/5

THE BEST AWADH STYLE BIRIYANI IN BANGALORE
.
Without doubt they serve the best awadhi style mutton biriyani in the town. Located at the heart of the town at Church street, this is a cozy little place with an old school live kitchen ambience. The walls are decorated with grilled iron rods and earthern pots to give the authentic look. The chef hails from Lucknow and is skilled in giving us the same taste we expect from Lucknow mughlai cuisine.
.
We first tried some kulhad chai which was perfectly made. Then we had some galouti mutton kebab, which is minced mutton with onion, fried on tawa which just melted in mouth perfectly. The taste, texture was awesome. As they used the pure ghee for their kebabs, the taste was more enhanced and flavourful. We had these kebabs with some mughlai paratha and mutton korma.
.
Then it was time to try the Biriyani which I was eagerly waiting for. We ordered just half plate and we're happy to see the quantity served. They serve mutton dum biriyani with raita, one gravy and onions.
.
Plus points of this Biriyani
1. The ghee used was very good quality, which enhanced the flavour.
2. The mutton pieces were good both in quality and quantity, lucious, delicious mutton pieces.
3. They didn't use rose water, which actually makes the biriyani heavy and bad afterbreath. This was a lighter biriyani which you can actually eat in more quantity without being heavy at a time.
4. It was authentic dum Biryani, not a simple pulav or fried biriyani and made with pure Basmati rice.
.
These are some of the reasons everyone should try their biriyani with friends and family. I totally loved their food and hope all of them like it.
.
We closed our lunch with some sweet-salt lassi which was again very light one with a consistency of chaach. It was in one word a perfect lunch.
.
Even the staff and chef there makes you feel home and you can enjoy cooking with them as it is a live kitchen, good value for price.
.
Highly highly recommended

Amazing Food , Music that makes you nostalgic , simple decors and some amazing hosts is what defines @qissakhawani. If you're looking for some well cooked meat and splash of Flavours of Lucknow on your plate you must visit this place. My personal favorites were the Mutton Galouti Kebabs and the Mutton Biryani. A bite of Galouti Kebabs which melts in your mouth with a spoon full of the rich biryani and Mix of spices of Mutton curry is the real treat your taste buds deserve šŸ˜‹

There are some food which go to the stomach and then there are some which go straight to the heart. The luscious Awadh dishes at Qissa Khawani served as the latter. After several attempts to book a table here, for this tiny outlet with just 6 chairs at the heart of Church Street in Bangalore, is seldom empty, to our rejoice, we got finally got into this place on one Sunday evening.Ā

They have recently changed their menu which has just a limited number of dishes for now , which includes the Awadh Mutton Biryani, Mutton Korma, Mutton Eshtew, and the Gilawti kabab, with some kullad kesari lassi and kullad takdi tadka lassi to wash the food down with.Ā

Keeping up with one of those unique traditions where you can see the meal being actually prepared in front of you, Qissa Khawani is in itself a delightfully unmatched experience.Ā

So, we ordered all the dishes from their newly renovated menu. The scumptuousĀ  200 year old Awadhi biryani was to die for. Rice so perfectly cooked that each grain held the Lucknowni flavor. Spices wafting their aroma and the mutton cooked to perfection, this biryani with the gravy of the mutton Korma would make any biryani lover nostalgic. And so was the Mutton Eshtew. Again, meat cooked the perfection. Not too spicy and neither bland. A juicy taste that again blended well with the Biryani. And finally the Gilawti Kabab. With my modest knowledge, I could claim that this was one of the best Gilawti kababs I've had. So tender and soft that it just slides through your tongue. Very few places in Bangalore have captured the true essence of the Gilawti kabab. It's not supposed to be chewy and crunchy, rather the name Gilawti itself is a representation that this kabab should just be swallowed down. Qissa Khawani does utmost justice to this.Ā

Finally the Lassis added to the taste for the evening. Not too thick, I preferred the kesari lassi more, with the inclination being its slight sweetness in taste.Ā

Another good thing about the food was that it was cooked so well that it didn't make you feel full no matter how much you ate. We chatted a while with the owners who brought a certain energy and positivity to the table, and we got to know that they plan to expand this place further in terms of space and dishes as well. Next, they are going to set their hands on some popular vegetarian dishes like the Dal Makhani.Ā

So overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I'd heartily recommend all to try out this place whenever free. You wouldn't regret it, even though the dishes are a little pricey.Ā

This place caught my attention when we were waiting for a table in brik oven and the amazing aroma of biryani wafted towards us. As it is situated just opposite brik oven, we decided to try out the biryani. As we entered it is a very small place with a seating arrangement of 5-6. Luckily 2 seats were vacant and we immediately placed our orders for muttan biryani with mutton korma.

This was a special lucknowi biryani which had a 200 year recipe. It is known as idrees biryani in lucknow. The delicious aroma made complete justice to the biryani as the taste was just mind blowing. The mutton was tender and cooked well. The taste was not overpowering nor very mild but just perfect.

The mutton korma had a spicy yet subtle taste. It went very well in combination with the biryani. The mutton pieces in korma too very very juicy and tender. They were not overcooked and just perfect.

Would definitely love to visit again and try out the other dishes.

My friend recommended this place and it was worth going there. We ordered Mutton Galauti Kebab, Mutton Biryani, Veg Biryani , sweet Lassi and Tadka buttermilk. The mutton was fresh and tender and the biryani was flavorful. The galautiā€™s were melting in the mouth. I would recommend to go this place and enjoy the mughlai dishes. The owner is polite and friendly. Waiting for their Kashmiri menu to start.

It was one of the best experiences i had although the sitting arrangement is tight and just 7 seats in the restaurant but the wait is totally worth the food. Lassi was amazing as well as rajma chawal and laccha parantha. I just couldn't stop ordering lassi. I think i ordered 3 lassis. You can see the food cooking in front of you. To try good North Indian food you must visit Qissa Khawani once. Also you can book seats.. I booked two and they gave me seats just after 5 minutes of waiting so do book a seat as otherwise there's a big rush.

I love this place. Itā€™s a single row seating, very small n congested place, but, sitting 3 foot away from the chef makes the preparation clearly visible. Do not go there as a group more than 5 coz thatā€™s all they can accommodate in total.

Food: This is a place that serves limited options but damn tasty šŸ˜‹ The tandoori chicken (whatever u order) is tender, perfectly cooked and the marination is outstanding. Dhal Makhani is also brilliant with the layer of cream and goes perfectly with Roti. Their Lassi not the thick types, but, still a very nice refreshing drink šŸ˜‹

I have been here about 5-6 times and enjoyed every time with food and service. From the kitchen straight to the plate! Literally šŸ˜¬

A tiny gem hidden in plain sight on Church Street!

Iā€™ve dined quite often opposite Qissa Khawani, not paying much notice to it. One day, I decided to try it out for lunch. The ambiance is basic but cosy, with the limited seating being a bit tight. The glorious food though makes up for any shortcomings you might experience!

I ordered a Paneer Kadai, a Gobi Paratha and a Paneer Paratha. All three were made freshly in front of me, and boy did they taste amazing! I had to wait a while for the steaming Parathas to cool off, no complaints however. The taste was very comforting, almost like eating at home. These were washed down with a Kesar Lassi and a Salt Lassi, both providing much needed respite from the hot Sunday afternoon just outside! The prices are friendly, so is the service. One of the staff even dabbled in elementary French with me, after hearing me talk to someone else. I appreciate such camaraderie, adds a much needed human touch to the business of food.

Iā€™m definitely coming back again!

Visited the place for a quick brunch and service was well provided. Food was great except for one minor let down.
The rice used to make the pulao was prepared from before mostly because I could see few grains dried out.
Other than this, its a decent place to have lipsmacking mughlai delicacies.

This had to be one of the best meals I have had in Bangalore. It's a quaint area that can seat upto about 7-8 people at a time. This was perfect as all the focus was on the food which exceeded our expectations! You can see your food being made at every step, which I think is great in terms of understanding what is being put on your plate.

First, we had the Tadka Lassi which is a savoury lassi. Loved it!
Next, we ordered the Laal Maas with Garlic Naan and Paneer Paratha with Dal Makhani! The Laal Maas was exceptional and the meat was cooked perfectly. The paneer was also tasty and very soft with the Dal Makhani. We were told that Laal Maas and the Dal Makhani were the house specials and now, we can vouch for that as well.

Overall, I cannot stress on how much I would recommend this place owing to the quality of food and the service!

This restaurant takes 'In less is more' pretty seriously. For starters we had Broccoli Malai Tikka which was phenomenal! Very creamy and fluffy to bite into each piece. Dahi ke Sholey is good but not that great.Ā  For main course we had the quintessential Dal Makhani with plain naan. Dal Makhani is not the usual kind that one has but was tasty nonetheless. I would go here again for the dal considering it is tough to find good Dal Makhani in Bangalore.
As this is a live kitchen, it has less seating capacity (Suggestion : Instead of serving in thermocol plates, they could either serve in bio-degradable plates or steel/glass plates. Something which is reusable.

Updated: These guys are now revamping their menu to include 200 year old Lucknowi and Kashmiri recipes. This time we had Veg Biryani, Mutton Khusk biriyani and Mutton Galauti kababs. Such delicate prep! According to my friend, mutton was extremely soft and very well flavoured. The prep is wholesome, extremely flavourful and has exactly the amount of spices needed. Very home cooked and delicious food! We also had lassi and tadka lassi. As for veg biriyani, it was really tasty and had paneer chunks in them. We were full after eating but didn't feel bloated or uneasy. That is the sign of great cooking!

The place was small and cozy and nicely decorated with kullads. Basically had a live kitchen, where you could see your order getting prepared(and yea can learn a bit of techniques and cooking). We started with kullad chai which was simple and nice. After having a chat with the owner, we decided to go for broccoli malai. It was prepared in charcoal. It had a tint of charcoal taste to it which made it more delicious.Ā

A North Indian diner with a style.
Heard about this place from friends and wanted to visit for the much spoken north Indian cuisine. The place was smaller in size than expectations. But what it might have lacked in size, the chef more than compensated in taste of their food.
Caution - they are small and they cook tight there, in front of you, so they take time. For us, they took a loooooot of time. We were told that they are running with half the staff. But then with food so amazing, the delay was soon forgotten.
They mirchi parantha was superb, along with the preparation of the meat. It is a level above than the normal north Indian flavors you might get at other fancy restaurants, so yes, they do have a style of their own. Mind it, the quantity might be lesser than what you'd expect, so one should order accordingly. And they do have some of the usual tasting dishes in the menu as well.
Although, sitting there, you do feel bad about the lot of people standing and waiting in queue just outside. Guess some have to pay more than just money for good food.
A word to the host, to be more receptive of customer's preference and receptive to feedback.
Overall, a much tastier experience than the usual restaurants.

I instantly fell in love with this little restaurant which is easy to miss on church street. At first I thought this was an extension of the pizza place adjacent to it but then I saw that it was a small authentic Indian cuisine place with very limited seating. The decor is simple yet rustic with exposed brick walls and clay kullads.
The entire restaurant can seat upto 8 members at a time and all of these seats are facing three little windows that open up directly into their kitchen.
The dahi Sholay Is heavy but tasty and the paneer tikka was tasty. The broccoli was creamy and was just spicy enough. I chose the mutton dum biriyani and polished it off my plate.
The only con was that u could see some dishes being made right there while some others were taken out of a container and reheated on a pan. I understand itā€™s difficult to manage cooking things like the fun biriyani in what seems to be a live kitchen but at the least the cooks can refrain from opening plastic boxes in front of the diners.

What a find!Ā  Qissa Khawani has to be one of the coolest finds for me around town. Who knew Bangalore could serve such an amazing North Indian fare. The moment I stepped into this tiny little place on Church Street(right next to another awesome place called brik oven),Ā  I was pleasantly surprised by how cool it all looks and how amazing it smells. Its a live kitchen serving awesome kebabs and Naans/parathas from their tandoor and super authentic curries. I tried the Lehsuni Malai Chicken Tikka for starters and boy what a start that was. Perfectly cooked chicken in a perfect garlicy marinade was one of the best kebabs I've ever had. for the maincourse I went with kadai paneer, dal makhani along with freshly baked laccha parathas and it could be one of the best meals of my life. Their laccha parathas opening up like a spring with these numerous layers is one of the most satisfying visual experience and are perfect accompaniments for the Dal and the kadai paneer.Ā  The paneer was super soft and I was told that they make their own cottage cheese fresh every day. Kudos to them for making their own paneer. Although its a tiny place, it is inspiring to see how well maintained all of it is and the staff is remarkably sweet. Its rare to find this kind of service in restaurants these days. I was told that they have plans to rotate the menu and add few more interesting dishes soon. I am going back to try the rest of the menu with some close friends soon.Ā  This place is EPIC.

One of the best places for dinner in Bangalore. Seating & Menu here is limited so you will have to wait before you get a chance to taste the delicious food, but waiting is worth here.Ā

Live kitchen experience everything is cooked in front of you. Reason for a limited menu is that they want to maintain quality this is what staff says.

My favorite dish which I recommend everyone is Chicken Curry (I am a big fan of its gravy). Nice place to sit with friends and pluggingĀ in your phone to the antique looking Mashall Speakers, enjoying music (of your own choice) & dinner.

From long time it was on my queue to visit, finally got some time to visit this place.Ā Qissa KhawaniĀ is casual dining outlet located in Church street. It has speciality in serving north indian dishes.Ā The setup is different from other places where one gets to see how the food is being prepared right from their seats.

An amazing place to have Punjabi food in Bangalore. Went there couple of times and have had Dahi key sholey and Kadai Paneer which was very good. Garlic naan is a must try. The staff is very courteous and helpful. It is a small place but very good food. Do try their food in their restaurant instead of ordering home, to enjoy the real taste.

A tiny place on Church Street
This place is for all the food lovers specially North Indian.
Canā€™t go for the ambience as there are only chairs infront of kitchen but the food will not disappoint.

Dal Makhani and Laccha Prantha were the best.
Hospitality is also good.
Must visit if you donā€™t want a good ambience but a delight of just food.

My first visit to the restaurant.
This place is a tiny eatery with a capacity of 7 seats inside and around 4 outside. my favourite part abt the ambience was that they have only a bar stool kind of a seating exactly in front of the kitchen which lets you watch your dish being prepared.
One of the most succulent kebabs I've eaten.
The chicken curry is a game winner!
The downside of the restaurant is that the service is slightly slow since they have two chefs handling everything and also one of the chef who was constantly asking the manager not to accept any more orders post 10 PM.

Writing this down post a super contended meal at Qissa Khawani!!!Ā

We hadĀ
Mutton seekh - melt in mouth, like no where else (best goes with their flaky lachha parantha!!!
Lehsooni malai tikka - food coma!Ā
Butter chicken - super awesome & way well balanced flavours
Lal Maas - meat falling off the bone in a very rich & flavorful curry.
Garlic naan -soft, crispy, Ā garlicky & buttery right out of the tandoor (made infront of you)!!Ā

How I wish I could have this all least once everyday of my life. hahaĀ

It's a delight to watch the guys work in the kitchen infront of you. You can see the chef preparing your food right infront of you and the delectable dishes speak for themselves, obviously they look beautiful with all the char on the kebabs & cream on that curry. You'll know the magic I'm talking about with the first bite you gonna have!Ā

Pro Tip - go on a super empty stomach and entally prepared to over eat :D

This is a nice little place on Church street, could barely seat 10 people. The food was decent but nothing extra ordinary. The starters were great, the chicken gravy was good, I did like their butter garlic naan but their Dal Makhani lacked a punch.Be prepared for very strong elichi favour in all their curries and Chai.

Awesome food. I had punjabi chicken curry which was very tasty. The best thing about it was the gravy. It was like homemade gravy. Also try the chicken malai Tikka. I have tried it at many places in Bangalore but this was the best. The chicken was properly marinaded and was juicy.

All the best!

I have been to this place twice and it was love at first sight!
Some 8 months back, tried basics - dal makhani and some naan/roti. By far the best daal makhani after ITC :) 5 star for that day! Food, service and awesome music made anniversary very special:)

Was there again today and expectations were high.
Ordered dahi ke sholey, daal makhani and breads again.
Dahi ke sholey - 5/5
Dal makhani - I was disappointed! 3/5
Something seemed off about the place today.
Still one of best places for punjabi food.

One word. Amazing!
Specially finding Dahi ke Sholey outside of Dilli, they just won my heart.
The open kitchen experience. The blazing tandoor continuously giving me my first and true love, lacche paranthe and the speaker playing fine Punjabi tunes.
It's now on my to-always-go list, when in Bangalore.

Actually we have a group of epicureans. We always search for a great food joint to just binge on the dishes. This was our one of the cutest findings. Why I call this as the cutest, because this place is the tiniest restaurant I have even been to. This has only seven seats and 2/3 may be outside. Qissa Khawani, present at the heart of the Church Street, serves the best quality food. As we are all foodies, we had ordered Murg Tikka, Paneer Tikka, Garlic Naan, alu paneer paratha, paneer curry, chicken curry, mutton curry, coke and lassi and many more. All were delicious and neatly prepared. The live cooking concept was awesome. I felt it was little bit over priced. But food was mind blowing and very much hygienic. They prepare everything in front of you. The staffs were very friendly and polite. But we could not try Dahi ke Sholay.

3) Dal makhni 4/5
4) Garlic naan 5/5
5) laccha paratha 5/5

The first time I went to Qissa Khawani was with 6 other people and to have all of us fitted inside that cosy little seating, we had to wait for more than half an hour. And once we settled inside and loved the ambience and had clicked pictures and played music (yes, you get to be your own DJ and play on those super amazing and antique Marshal speakers) and decided our order, we were told that the chicken and rice was over. So, we had no option but to go to some other place. But I was determined to return and devour some chicken at this place so I came back 3 days later with just one friend and we had Chicken Tikka Masala, some Pulao and Butter Garlic Naan. The food was totally worth the wait. They probably serve the best Naans in Bangalore. However, I feel that the portions are really really small considering the high prices that they charge. Otherwise, it's a good experience eating there and also looking at how your food is being prepared.

Small place but wonderful and scrumptious servings , live kitchen concept, good place to have super awesome tandoori and North Indian cuisine, limited menu but worth trying everything. Both veg and non veg is good, but non veg starters are best to try for. Out of the tandoor and served hot. Try chai and lassi if u are a fan as they give in khulad.

There's a popular saying "Good things come in small packages" and that is exactly what comes to mind when I think of Qissa Khawani. Located on Church Street just beside Brik Oven, this cute little place is a hidden gem in the city specialising in North Indian and Mughlai cuisine. I usually prefer having Indian food at home but a sudden plan with a friend brought us to this place last week & I must admit that I had an extremely satisfying dinner. It actually brought me back my good old Delhi memories.
We tried theĀ
- Broccoli Malai TikkaĀ
- Dal Makhani with Garlic NaanĀ
- Kadai PaneerĀ
- Mutton Curry with Plain PulavĀ
Each and every item was top notch and had that authentic Dilli wala swaad. My personal favorites were the Paneer and the Mutton Curry. The malai broccoli comes a close second. The dal could have been a bit better but tasted good nonetheless.
Serving time might be a little slow but that's because they make their food in small batches and its fresh. Speaking of the ambiance, the place is really small having only 5-6 seats with a live kitchen in front. But they have smartly used up the space; the earthy dĆ©cor with chai kulhads looks very trendy.Ā  It was only the two of us that evening (apart from Swiggy orders) and we had a nice time interacting with the owner, Mr. Akshit (hope I got the name right). Ā
Reason am not giving a 5 is because the place is a little high on the pocket wrt the ambiance. We paid 1300/- for our meal.Ā Hope they maintain consistency in food in the coming years. I see great potential in the place in terms of food. Would love to see them come up with a proper restaurant sometime soon. Ā  Ā

Good luck :)

A very simple and cute place located in church street, in the same complex of Indian Coffee House. The menu has limited options. Loved the entire concept of this beautiful place. You choose the dish u want and they prepare right in front of you from scratch. So, you know what goes into the dishšŸ˜‹ Only 5 people can dine at one time. A good food place for small group! One of a kind experience. 100% value for money.

This is what you get when you take a dhaba out of national highway 1 in punjab/haryana and install it in Bangalore. Punjabi food doesn't get more authentic than this (south of maharashtra) Fixed menu of buttery curries, dal makhani wtc. served with naans and laccha parathas straight from the oven, with sweet and masala lassi. A warm staff tops it off. The restaurant itself seats just about 6-7 inside and 2-3 outside. So takeaway may be most convenient. But to enjoy the absolute freshness, wait is worth it.

So this place. It's quite unusual at first. A small space crunched shop in Church Street. So small so that only there is space for 5 people to sit and eat. But once you are inside Qissa Khawani it's just not some oridnary eatery. You get to sit in front of this kitchen which is an amazing feeling it's like having one to one with your food. Watching it actually get cooked infront of yourself. The real magic is their food. I had rajma chawal, mutton pulav and Tadka Chaas and man this was some superb food out their. A must try place.
