I just loved the location of CTR at SeshadriPuram... Dayanand was courteous and explained the menu...loved the mini dose and Khali dose too...again went the next day to try idli...just loved it, would like to try wada when prepared hot...well service was fast, looked hygienic....I still suggest to all darshnis..that their staff wear a head cap .....hope CTR will incorporate this.

There is just one bench stretching from the cash counter to the kitchen, so do not depend on getting a seat. Best place to hang out for Dose lovers. Chikkanna Tiffin Room have options like Rice Bath, Dosa and Idly items. I have tried Mini Benne Masla Dosa, Coffee, Uddina Vada, Idly here and the taste of the Dosa is very authentic to Chikkanna, it was crispy and it is served with a combination of Gatty Chutney, Tomato Chutney and one can expect Uddina Vada is too soft and crispy enough to eat.

Found this place 1-2km from hotel in Bangalore. We skipped our hotel bfast n came here. Little difficult to find, as its in narrow lanes , u cannot go in ur car to this place. But nothing can stop foodie like me. N we had a best dosas of our life. Still I remember this place whenever i eat dosa at other restaurant.

Chikkanna Tiffin Room is one of the most favourite and legendary breakfast place in Namma Bengaluru. Recently gang of friends had been here love their food so much that I don’t remember how many times I have been here.
Masala dose with gatti or thick chutney, ghee roast is just melt in mouth here shouldn’t miss at all. Khali Dose Aloo palya chutney with ghee on top is just amazing soft and fluffy and tastes divine. I’m drooling now as and when I’m writing this now! Hehe :)
Their bath masala or Bhath Khali is soft and so delicious. Worth trying. As I told before rice Bath is the best! There Idly is good too. Couldn’t capture picture as it became Khali or got finished in seconds.

This one is hard to find.. Its located inside nagarpet in a gully and google maps doesn't show this place when you search with the name. But inspite of all that, I have had the best Thuppa Kaali at this place.. Its super soft and fluffy and tastes Divine. The addition of chutney and saago on top gives a new dimension to the taste. The mini masala dose is also one a kind where they put a lot of ghee and the addition on green chutney insted of red chutney gives a different taste altogether which is unique. Its a must try place for all dose lovers and worth the struggle to find the place as well

Glad to have made it to this legendary eatery during my visit to Bengaluru this time. It's easy to miss this place, but not very hard to locate it even without a GPS in hand. This place is a landmark in itself and everybody seems to know it well. You will be well guided to the legendary CTR.
This dingy place, tucked in one of the by lanes of Cubbonpet is a treasure trove of reincarnated dosa. Loaded with butter, cooked to perfection and the drool like masala is sure to bring you back again and again asking for more.
We tried the regular masala dosa, which tasted great to our hungry tummy and the flavorful chutney. But what stole the show for us and still has me lingering in all awe is their Gini dose- the first cousin of masala dosa, just a lot more crunchier, compact and loaded with benne. Then there was THE PULAV MASALE 😎.... the swag cousin of masala dosa married to PULAV 😘... Probably the best pulao I have tasted in a long long time .. and how well it complimented the dosa... This is all you want on an early Saturday morning after sweating it out in the sun, may be after a run or just for some fun with your friends.
Please do not go expecting for a fancy place, it's basic and that's the beauty of it.

By the time we reached this place, only dosas were available. So ordered a masala dose, which was served with palya and thick green chutney. It's perfect crispy and brown on the outside and soft inside showered with ghee(no hint of oil), which makes every bite worth it!

The khali dosa with chutney and potato saagu is the softest I ever had, do ask for extra ghee which they pour on top of the dosa to make it the best dish. Ghee, Ghee and Ghee any dosa you try here ask for ghee topping, Ghee over CTR dosa is like having pizza with extra cheese. Heavenly dosas, it just melts in your mouth.

One of the older places in bangalore know for their breakfast items the dosas here are like home made with pure ghee, the mini masala dosa which has the perfect golden brown color is just heavenly and melts in your mouth. The khali dosa is so soft and goes well with the chutney and and the amazing potato saagu that they have, do ask for extra ghee which they put on top of the dosa to make your experience even better. The palav here is also worth the mention it's best had hot with chutney after a round of masala dose and khali dose.

The best Bangalore style Khaali dose of ones I have tried so far. I hear SK Tiffin which is in the vicinity is even marginally better but I am yet to try that. For best results, pay the extra for the ghee. You will be served the khaali dose with sagu and chutney with a huge dollop of ghee so your dosa will be a soft, melt in your mouth deliciousness. It tastes real good even without the ghee. If you are eating the ghee version but also need to try something else like the yummy mini masala dosa or the pulav (both supremely popular items here) then ask for the single khaali dosa, else it is too heavy. The pulav comes in a good quantity and the mini masala dosa which is crispy outside and soft inside is ghee soaked. So it gets too heavy.
The place has 2-3 ladies, one at the cash counter and one at the dosa griddle, another for serving. It’s very nice to see women run the place, but bar the lady who serves the food sometimes along with two boys, the cashier and dosa maker both are grumpy. Make sure you state your order very clearly. The place is popular and can get crowded with families from the neighbourhood, I think especially popular with vegetarians. Every time I have been here, there has been a big turnout of big Marwari families. But the food is tempting and you will be too engrossed to look around.
Hygiene is below average and courtesy average. No coffee available, there is decent coffee nearby at a small shop called Indian Coffee Bar. Can have multiple coffees at Rs. 7 a piece to wash down all the ghee.
The place is in a small gully, google map takes you to the right location. Just follow the map, else you may see other eateries with the same name and get confused.
Locating the place is tricky, Google maps come to rescue. If you are planning to visit, 4 wheelers is a strict No.

Of the menu, the best part is Dosa. Both Kala Dosa and masala Dosa are good. While Kala Dosa is soft, masala Dosa is crispy. The flavor of ghee just almost there in every bite. Rice bath and Idly just tasted normal.
What's not so good
Nothing noteworthy. Felt the price of Masala Dosa seem to be a little on higher end for this kind of setup.
Bottom Line - Worth a visit if you are passing by the area.

Then we have the kali dosa which is again served with same combination but here you need to buy extra ghee to unlock the flavours of fluffy dosa. They taste like heaven. Then we have mini masala dosa which is roasted in ghee and have such a brilliant taste on your tongue and it is mouth watering. Here everything revolves around ghee. Plain dosa are same except for masala inside which is for plain dosa eaters. A must try if you want to experience best of South Indian food and must try for breakfast. Cubbonpete Chikkanna is a small outlet with limited seating ,but who cares when they serve legendary dosas .
The must tries here are their Full Bath Masala Dose ,Mini masala dose and the legendary Khali dose ! They also server sum too yum pulav with chutney and ghee on top of it ,a pakka Bengalurian would consider this as true heaven!
The dosas are the served with pure ghee on top with pulav or masala palya stuffed in or on top of it. The best time to go here is early evenings around 4.30 pm or else the lines are very big and extreme waiting would be encountered.

Wanted to visit this place from quite a long time and finally made it on a Saturday morning where the crowd was less and we ordered one khali dosa, masala dosa and ghee (ghee billed separately) we were served within 5mins both the dosas were more than what I had expected seeing the pics it was just heavenly, the best dosas I have ever had far better than Mtr and Vidyarthi bhavan just couldn't come back with two dosas ordered one more masala dosa.
Will definitely visit again and will taste their pulao too.

One of the well known and legendary restaurant in Bengaluru. They have two outlets in Bengaluru. This outlet is located in Cubbonpet Main Road. One of the oldest food joint in Old Bengaluru. They have their own style of preparations. They serve limited menu like Idly, Dosa's & Rice Varities. Chikkanna is also known as CTR. CTR was in my bookmarks since long time. It finally happened.
Headed for Sunday Breakfast. It was crowded behalf of Sunday Brunches.

• Idly - Malliage Idly served with Potato Saagu & Coconut Chutney. It was not hot but it tasted good.
• Khali Dosa - I think this is signature dish from CTR. Khali Dosa served / topped with Saagu & Chutney. Never forget to ask Ghee. Ghee topped on Dosa is major highlight.
I recommend Khali Dosa to anyone from the dosa menu.
• Masala Dosa - Potato Smashed Masala stuffed and Chuntey pasted on Dosa. Major Highlight is that these doesn't apply normal chilli chutney paste, they put green chutney paste.
This is something to be expected from CTR.
• Plain Dosa - The same ingredients from Masala Dosa except Smashed Potato. Served with Potato Saggu & Chutney.
Overall
Chikkanna Tiffin Room (CTR) Impressed me. They don't have Hygine Infrastructure but they serve best Khali Dosa in town. I ask management to improve the Hygine part of the outlet and some good amount of seating capacity.

Masala dose: The soft and crispy Masala Dose, where the Batter is perfectly blended. The palya in masala dose is the major thing for the perfect taste.
Khali Dose: The texture of this Dose is perfect, with the Sagu, it's heaven in the mouth. This again is roasted with Ghee
Pulav: The Ricebath or Pulav server here is as awesome as the Dose, have the bath masale dose if time permits.

This place was on my bookmark for a long time, today gotta visit this place since I had work in the city market. to be honest it was very difficult to find this place ,it's a very small outlet in the small streets of cubbonpet area, ambience wise it's not that great simple small and clean place with not much of a seating . I had this mini masala dosa which was too gud like dripping with ghee and the idli was avg . I think the main star would be the masla dosa and I'd suggest these guys to come out somewhere on the main rd where lot more ppl would know this place and ur dosas would be giving a tough competition to other mighty dosas in town .

Not to be confused with the CTR in Malleshwaram, Chikanna Tiffin Room is where you'll find the best kali dosa in town. Think of a cross between an appam and a set dosa. Light, fluffy and goes down easy with a ladle full of chutney and potato sagu. Some people prefer adding a spoon of ghee to their dosa, but we would suggest otherwise (probably for the first time ever).
My husband and I am a true lover of south indian breakfast menu. Have explored almost all the authentic legandary breakfast places of Bangalore and hands down this place has the best ghee roast dosa. A friend at work recommended this place and I kept arguing with him that nothing can be better than my then current favourite. I accept my defeat now though. Their bhat is pretty good too as said. Will try it in my next visit. It would have been cherry on the top if they had filter coffee too. You have to have coffee after dosa, right?
Awesome...just awesome.... however, the dosa seems to be dipped in ghee.

Dosa and Masala filling both were super tasty and made us drool. But 1 dosa is very filling . Mainly due to the ghee content in each one.
Will definitely visit again and would recommend this to all.my friends at least once.

They only serve breakfast... Is self service... Being a gully there isn't parking space for a car...
Prices are a little expensive than most of the other places similar to it...

I took really long to write this review because every time I tried to type the review, it left me mouthwatering and I couldn't complete the task! And here it is finally!
Prefect breakfast joint on any given day and a great place if you'd wanna have a royal South Indian breakfast! Every dish is infused with ample amount of pure tasty and aromatic ghee. The surroundings of the restaurant makes you even more hungry as the aroma of ghee being poured over the Dosas spread like wildfire.
1. Tatte Idle with Ghee
Hot and Soft Idlis topped with ghee served with Sagu and chutney. You can skip this if you have a small appetite and directly head to dosas.
2. Ghee Masala Dose
Amazing dosas prepared with ample ghee and served with thick and spicy chutney! Every bite is a heavenly feeling with the crispy ghee infused dose and the amazing thick chutney. And trust me, this flavor will stay at least for half the day! Every bite is a new adventure. Must Try!
3. Khali Dose
Unlike the crispy masala dose, the Khali Dosa is extremely soft and melts as you eat! Served again with Sagu and chutney topped with ghee. Entirely a different experience as this dosa has ghee on if after it's taken off the hot tawa unlike the masala dose which has ghee poured over it as it is being prepared on the tawa. Must Try!
4. Rice Bath
Amazing preparation of rice infused with spices that can tickle your taste buds and also served with the amazing chutney. Add ghee if you are a fan of it and you can avoid this if you aren't a rice lover!
5. Bath Khali Dose.
The same mesmerizing Khali Dose upon which a serving of rice is added after it's taken off the tawa and topped with Sagu, chutney and ghee. This is extremely filling and hence would recommend people to share it! A must try and a local delicacy where flavoured rice is added to Khali Dose. This is entirely a different and a unique experience! Must try!
This food is to be had with GHEE! Go to this restaurant on your cheat days and be ready to drown in ghee and it's aroma! Do try the Ghee Masala Dose and The Khali Dose with Ghee.

Having said that, visit this restaurant for it's tasty dosas and a hole in the wall ambiance :-) they have a new branch in Seshadripura which maybe better if you are expecting better ambiance.

This is an amazing place for dosa... The chutney they provide is Early morning bliss. I must say this one of the original Bengaluru breakfast
THE BEST masala dosa and khali ghee dosa in Bangalore. CTR and Vidyarthi bhavan can go take a walk. Crispy on the outside... fluffy inside.. great potato masala.. with gatti chutney it just melts in your mouth. One full masala is INR 85.Ghee khali dosa is INR 30 a plate. Food here is an absolute bang for the buck, served on a small banana leaf placed on a paper plate .Idly and rice bath are available too... but the dosa is King here. This is a small nondescript place in one of the gullys of cubbonpet. On weekends it gets quite crowded..you might have to take your paper plate outside and eat. Come in by 7.30-7.45 am else you'll find it difficult to get in. No parking available for 4 wheelers..so park on one of the broad roads and walk through the gully to reach this place.
Am definitely coming back here whenever I crave for dosas.

Food Taste- That matters the most - Have had Tuppa khaali, masale dose, bath masale. Tuppa khaali and masale dose are one of the very tasty ones one gets in Bengaluru. I did not like the bath masala much.
If you love dose, you must visit this place.

Had their Kali dosE. Do yourself a favor and pay the fifteen extra bucks for ghee. It is fantastic! They serve with palya and chutney as well. Strangely, no tea or coffee available here. But there are and we coffee bars and coffee works nearby for that :)
One of the best places to have dosa , crisp and wonderful , masala dosa and Kali dosa was too good and mouth watering , the amount of ghee poured on the dosa makes it more tasteful
Finally managed to visit Chikkanna today. The original place was shut and they were serving in a make shift shop nearby. Was pretty crowded at 9:30 am. Service takes really long since they only have one smallish tawa that can roast 7-8 dosas at a time. The khali dosa was super soft but gets too soggy too soon to relish it because of the generous pouring of chutney over it. The mini masala was outstanding. Was soft on the side and crisp on the outside with an extremely flavourful masala. Looking to try their new outlet in Seshadripuram soon.

Travelled around 15kms and waited for 20mins to get my hands on this delicious dosa, don't regret my decision even for a single sec.

This is a very small, non-descript place. We got here on a Saturday at 7.15am and it was crowded already. We ordered dosas, which took about 10mins to be served (read handed over to you to be had sitting outside closed shops). Ghee was dripping off the dosa (I do hope that was ghee), the batter had a bit of coconut in it, the mint chutney was thick and tasty (unlike the watery kind served at A2B), and the food is served on plantain leaves.
The food was nothing extraordinary for the prices charged (INR 48/- for one dosa). My opinion is - you'll be better off at Taaza Thinde or SLV at Jayanagar than here. For this price, the crowd and lack of standing/ sitting space, I did not find the place worthwhile. Mind you, the food was good, just not good enough to have me return here.
Initially I felt that this is going to be an usual eatery that would bore us.. But my guess was incorrect... This is another #unique place in bangalore... If u tasted mysore mylari dosas.. This is pretty similar with regards to taste.. However the pulav was really spicy yummy... This could be the best experience during a completely chilled morning in bangalore... It's a must visit for a unique experience.... But the dishes are way little expensive... #No place to sit comfortably....

Though this place exist from more than six decades, I came to know about this restaurant very recently through my foodie friends. The reason behind this place not being so popular is simple, people don’t want to share precious gem like Chikkanna Tiffin Room with others.

Chikkanna is located inside a small lane of Cubbonpet. Quite difficult to locate if you're going here for the first time but definitely worth the trouble. The place is really small, just the size of a room. The place can hardly accomodate 12-15 people and is generally crowded. People stand out on road and enjoy their breakfast. Though the place is always crowded you get your order quite quick without having having to wait for too long.
Mouth melting dosas.... You get one of the best dosas here. Mini masala dosa and Kali dosa are the two types of dosa served here along with bhath masala. Both mini masala and kali are delicious. You can't just stop at one. The sagu with the kali dosa is just so perfect with the even more perfect kali dosa. Mini masala dosa is crispy on the outside and juicy inside with dripping ghee/butter and not for the diet conscious. Go here with an empty stomach and your breakfast will be blissful. It is of the likes of other legendary breakfast places in Bangalore. A must visit place for Dosa Lovers!

I generally don't write a review after having sampled just one item at an establishment but when the menu is small and the item is really good, I don't see the harm.
This place is tucked away in one of the lanes in this market area but the good part is that Google maps gives the exact location. So, reaching here is not an issue at all.
The place is no bigger than a decently sized bedroom with one cash counter, one bench for customers and one counter where you the good.
I tried the masala dose and it was divine. It has really crunchy on the outside and tender inside. The masala and chutney were the perfect accompaniments, although I'd have preferred if the chutney was a nut more runny. It can be easily compared to the likes of MTR, CTR, etc. There serve all food in banana leaf on sheets of newspaper which is both hygienic as well as environment friendly (I believe).
The servers are quite friendly and food doesn't take much time to arrive.
This is a must for all dosa-lovers.
This place is located in the city market area and serves delicious food which is close to home made..
The kali dose with sagu is very soothing and satisfying with not much of spice in the sagu.
The mini masale dose is their signature dish and keeps up to the name in terms of looks and taste.
Rice bath was one of the best I had till date.. The spice blend with the strong flavour of the marati moggu (Kapok buds) would be dominant in every serving...
They serve food on a paper and banana leaf, Eco friendly indeed :)

Mini Masala Dose here is the specialty, thick and crispy dose stuffed with different kind of potato masala which is thin and served with the chutney on the plantain leaf. Taste of the chutney here is top notch. One will surely lost with the taste of Dose.
One of the best Khali Dose I ever had is here because of its simple, less oily but still amazing taste. Rice bath which is simple but cooked with rich spices tastes better with their unique coconut chutney.

It is located on Cubbonpet road near corporation circle. One of the best masala dosa I never ever had .
Of course they call it as mini masala dosa due to miniature in it's Size. Mini Masala dosa with aroma of pure ghee along with Chutney makes you feel splendid . Khali dosa with pure ghee will sure make your day.
Top 1 in taste, masala dosa with unmatchable taste with any one till now...

Tucked into a bylane, this is definitely one of the few awesome joint to try some bisi bisi food.
Parking is strictly for 2W, if you are able to squeeze into the available slot.And definitely not a wheel chair friendly place.
This place is run by a hard working woman who needs to be lauded for her untiring efforts. Be ready to wait while your order is through.
Coming to the food, we had mini masala dosa which was straight off the tawa. It tasted excellent with the palya and chutney. The chutney makes the dose soggy but doesn't dampen the taste. Next in queue was pulav which tasted mellow alone but hit the right sense with the chutney. Idly was the next item which was soft and the chutney helped it with the right amount of spiciness.
I will recommend this place if you are fine with standing on the roadside and enjoy your food rather than the surroundings.

Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, golden brown dosa, dripping in oodles of Asli ghee, containing yum palya, topped off with the perfect chutney. Served piping hot!
2 of those, and you'll probably need a nap ASAP.

Yummy Masala Dosa. I had been staying in a nearby hostel for four years. I was unlucky to not had tasted it then. Went with my hostel friend yesterday early 7:30am. Crispy Masala dosa just melted in my mouth. Hostel or anyone staying nearby ought to taste it once. You would get addicted.
