Amazing ambiance with a lot of seating capacity , food is just awesome..The food has so much of flavour.. great place to hang out with friends.. should definitely visit this outlet. Value for money...
An old time favourite of mine. I have so many good memories which revolve around this quaint, little restaurant with it's unique décor and delectable Persian dishes. However, I preferred it a lot more when the previous owner was around as he was a good natured man who always made it a must to enquire about the food and chat a little with the customers. The only downside to this place is that it is a bit difficult to locate. I would highly recommend their negindar kabab ( a mixture of lamb, beef and chicken)
This place serves some of the best Persian food in Bangalore. I would love to add 'authentic' as well because if this is the real deal, then Iranian food rocks!
I've visited this restaurant quite a few times and have been met with friendly service and mouth watering meat platters every time. The menu can be daunting which is why it's advisable to turn to the staff for help deciphering it. They do a good job of explaining the dishes and helping you choose.
The kebabs are moist, superbly done and packed with flavour. Enough said. The Persian bread, essentially a super huge naan, is a nice dry naan which is a delight to look at. They have kuboos as well which is chewier and softer. Both are pretty good.
The curries are smooth, very different from Indian curries in that they lack the spice punch that we're accustomed to. They do pair well with the breads but from my experience, I would say it's a bit of a hit or miss game because some have been downright bland.
I invariably order black tea every time I'm here so the drinks remain a mystery.
Dining here is a wonderfully laid back and relaxed experience with simple decor and a breezy out doorsy ambience.
Loved the Mutton starters, perfectly spiced but a wee bit too over on the seasoning, but perfectly cooked. Not a major fan of the main course, on suggestion of the gentleman on the other end of the phone, ordered a gravy & the bread, the gravy was so undercooked, that the only taste, that I was able taste was off raw tomato & ginger. I actually in a kind of a way liked the taste of fresh raw grated tomato which was spiced perfectly but the huge amount of ginger gives you a taste bud burn. Very steeply priced though, but for me starters did the job.
Food: Distinct taste of every dish that we ordered. But quantity was not good.
Ambience: Great!
Service: Takes long time to prepare food, but the waiters are friendly.
Price: Although food is tasty, the serving is also quite small. I would say it's overpriced.
This is a Persian restaurant and I can say hands down it is the best Persian restaurant in Bangalore. Yes, I have tried every other restaurant that claims to serve Persian food and no they are nowhere close to Darband in terms of authenticity of taste. For those that do not know a lot about Persian food, Persian or Iranian food is not the same as Afghani, Lebanese, Arabic or Middle Eastern food. Although all of the above and Mughlai and Tandoori food are closely related, for the discerning palate, Persian food is very distinctive in its flavors, delicate spicing and well cooked, melt in your mouth meat is the hallmark of this cuisine.
That said, Persian cuisine does not offer much for the Indian vegetarian palate and it is best to avoid the cuisine and indeed this restaurant if you are a vegetarian. Coming to the food, I have been here thrice and I have only ordered the Boneless Joojeh (Chicken) Kabab and Kabab e Koobideh (Lamb) every time. They are as good as you will find in any good Persian restaurant around the world and I do not find a need to try something else, especially because I don't get to visit this restaurant as often as I would like to.
Both of these kebabs have the delicate spicing characteristic Persian food. They are best eaten with Chelo rice (Basmati Rice). They look dry, but when you put one piece in your mouth, they will literally melt and you will taste the warm, juicy kebab that is best enjoyed with your eyes closed to best appreciate the subtle, incandescent play of spices. This is the food of and for Kings.
I give the restaurant no marks for location. It is located in a hard to find nook that does this place no favors. No marks for their service either. If however you like good Persian food, then you must visit this place.
This restaurant is a little tricky to find, going by google maps (which we followed), ambience nothing great but gives a calm feel. Food is "the real thing" here. We ordered a persian naan, chicken stroganof and a chicken pizza. Well let me suggest that don't order more than 1 persian naan initially, if you only 2 people. Not because of the quality, but because of the size, its hugeeee... The taste of the food is different but really good. The chicken pizza was stuffed with juicy minced chicken and mushroom. The food overall is great and worth a try.

Brilliant food..especially the Bonabi kabab..best lamb preparation i have had in a long time..!! The ambiance can be improved..and the location is a bit of a problem..but once you try the food you wont regret the effort..!!
Darband is an authentic Persian-Iranian restaurant off New BEL Rd. This place used to be run by Iranians when it started few years back. I really like the kababs especially lamb koobideh - the minced meat is very soft and the spices that go into the kabab is very different from the ones used in mughlai or awadhi cuisine. The taste has a unique rustic touch to it ! This is best have with the chelo rice or persian naan. Do try Doogh, a refreshing buttermilk-soda drink. In summary, Darband stands out for its airy ambiance and unique menu and is also a great place for group gatherings !
Thanks to its proximity to IISc, Darband has been a much loved place ever since we found it almost by chance! The ambiance is simple but elegant with a pleasant, airy feel and a quite a bit of green. Also, it's never really overcrowded so it's always a relaxed and quiet dining experience. It specializes in Persian cuisine and is probably the only place in North Bangalore; the others being Sufi in Koramangala and Ayda Persian Kitchen on Church street. Although a bit heavy on the pocket, it's worth it once in a while. There are quite a few options on the menu for vegetarians, but Darband would probably be best enjoyed by non-vegetarians. A word of caution though: The meats are subtly spiced and are somewhat 'bland' in comparison to how the average Indian would prefer meat... so they may not suit everybody's tastebuds!
The spiced-yoghurt based drink Doogh is refreshing but quite heavy by itself. For starters, we usually prefer the Kashk-o-Bademjan or Mirza Ghasemi, close cousins of the Arabian 'Baba ghanoush' and also related to our very own Baingan Bharta! This is well enjoyed with the Persian Naan, a gigantic piece of flatbread which can easily serve at least 3 people. Although not Persian, the mushroom and cheese appetizer was also very well enjoyed. For main course, I would recommend the succulent kebabs among which we personally liked the Kabab-e-Koobideh (lamb) and a beef kabab (name forgotten!). Chelo (steamed, buttered rice with a slight crust) is the perfect accompaniment for the kebabs, balancing the palate nicely.
Overall, a great place for savoring the unique flavours of authentic Persian cooking! Worth trying!
Tucked away in a blind lane off New BEL Road in the Sanjaynagar area is a wonder. Brilliant persian food, nice ambience and very quite. Hardly anyone ever comes here. Here is no advertisement anywhere about this restaurant and very few people know about it. Very spacious, semi outdoor kindnof seating and great service. Haven't found any defects whatsoever. Serves veg, chicken, lamb and beef.
A restaurant worth visiting if you are a non-veg lover. Yes, the food isn't spicy, but its delicious. A little heavy on your wallet, but hey you don't get authentic Persian cuisine everyday.
A typical Persian-Iranian restaurant on New BEL road. Its a little tricky to find this place as it is located in the residential area. For the food, we tried doogah (yoghurt with soda drink), kebab shishleek, chelo (buttered basmati rice) with- khoresht bamiyeh (chicken gravy) and naan. All these were really good. However, the spice factor was low. The restaurant is spacious inside and has good ambience. Overall, it was a good experience!
Okay. Firstly it's a Persian restaurant, so am not considering the spicy quotient here. I knw we as Indians like eating something spicy in our meal. So if you want to eat something spicy then this is not a place to visit. But if you want to try Persian I would suggest you to visit this place one.
The kebabs are good. We had a minced lamb kebab. I don't know the name because it's too hard to pronounce and to read :D
Anyways the restaurant is quite neat and clean. It's a open space with tables well organised. Courteous staffs, if you are confused, asked them what you want to try.
Persian naan is amazing. It's equivalent to 4 naans that we usually get in the restaurants. If the cost of a dish is more than 350 then the quantity is way too much for 2 ppl.
Yo: kebabs
Boo: they use sesame oil
Er: no ac
This is one of the best restaurant in new bel road. Taste typical Persian, not at all comparable to any other place. Totally different. I just love to go there again and again.
Note: took some of my friends once. They didn't liked it. Coz the food is not spicy.
Its a typical Persian restaurant
Simple restaurant, quiet place , you will not feel your in the city , usually not crowded , when I went ,there was another table occupied and rest were empty. Food is normal nothing exceptional but good for a change.Lamb kebabs are very salty.
Nice place, such peace is hard to find on New BEL Road. The place looks good and has a very laid back feel to it. Not crowded, not run over by noisy college students either. The mixed kebab platter is a must. Probably the best Persian kebab i have had in Bangalore, need more visits to be sure. I like how their menu is not diluted with Indian choices, unlike most mainstream Persian food joints. The staff overestimates the size of their naans, which actually is rather large. Beware of mosquito repellant coils under your table. Yes, that's where the smoke is coming from.
If I could live there so I could eat their food daily, for every meal, I would. And they are so close to me, I have been there 6 times in the last two weeks. love, love, love it.
Darband is a great place to get authentic persian food.
we had a whole bunch of things, forgot the names of 2.
we started with the kababs, the most outstanding of them all was the kabab-e-shishleek, the meat was so tender it just melts in your mouth, there was a lamb chop that we ordered that was just as tender
we joojeh kabab which didnt really feel like a small chicken but was decent, a little over done.
we also had the kabab e chenjeh which was not very impressive.
the celo (rice) was done well - plain rice so not a lot of detail, but when mashed with butter, roasted tomato and eaten with the kababs it makes for a great meal.
Service was excellent too, the manager was really helpful and so was the staff.
Its a long drive for me, so i unfortunately will have to think twice when wanting to eat here again, braving traffic for food is a tough battle.
This place is located in one of the by-lanes off New BEL road, almost hidden in a corner. The place is spacious. Since I visited the place at daylight, i am assuming the ambience would be lovely at night as the place has a refreshing feel to it with a water fountain and greenery around. However the seating may not be too comfortable for a long meal. I ordered the kebab platter as I wanted to sample the varied kebabs on the menu. The kebab platter offers 4 varieties in chicken, lamb and beef. The flavors are authentic and lovely. Although, prices seem to be a bit on the higher side, the delicious flavors make up for it :-) Recommend this place to kebab lovers. Would love to go back and try other dishes on the menu.
Good food, decent prices delivery can take a while sometimes.
Excellent food.. Portions are huge.. Less crowd.. Good ambiance
One of the few authentic Persian restaurants in town.. The spread is amazing.. The waiters are knowledgeable and help you choose the right dish for you.. Since the names of the dishes are in Persian!! Meat is well marinated and succulent.. Good value for money.. Try their naan and kebabs.. Quantity is good and the ambience is perfect for a lazy Sunday brunch.. Since this restaurant is tucked in a quiet little corner.. It might help to switch on ur GPS ;) but I'm not complaining... Less crowd = less noise +more time on the table :)
Good ambience in a frugal setting. Authentic kababs, timely services, value for money. Must try for grill lovers.......
Excellent food. Very good ambience. Totally authentic cuisine.
Must try for arabic kababs lover.
Kababs are well marinated and tender everytime.tasted lots of variety of kababs but my favourite remains kabab-e-bakhtiari.
And all kababs looks really beautiful
Naan is sooo big.enough for a guy's lunch.do not order 2 until you see it.
Beautiful gastronomical experience everytime.well priced.very very clean for a middle end restaurant.very friendly service.
Highly recommended
Makhsoose darband and jooje kabab boneless was nice. Didn't like the rice much . Though nan was really big and nice. Had a nice time in a good ambiance.
just go to this place... if you like non veg and good food.. you ll love it for the life time.....
very nice restaurant with a good ambiance. Very good for larger groups.
fantastic kababs in any variation (chicken, beef, mutton). bread is great and the garlic dahi (maste-moussir), too. and the Persian cooking is authentic, that's the best of all.
Super awesome discovery. These guys are awesome starting an iranian place here. Superb taste and chilled interiors. Must try
The best persian restaurant in India
Darband is a Persian restaurant tucked away in one of streets off New BEL Road. The setup is casual and unpretentious. The restaurant even has a little water fountain in a corner. The music playing in the background is distinctly Persian.
The best thing about the restaurant is undeniably, the food. I've been to this place on 3 occasions, and every time, the kebabs have been succulent and flavoursome, as have the accompaniments. One definite must-have is the Persian version of buttermilk, called Doogh.
I'd also recommend a chat with the owner, an elderly gentleman from Persia. While he doesn't speak much English, he is amiable and pleasant. Incidentally, the chef is also from Persia.
Nice Persian food on New BEL Road! Havent seen too many people eating here. Hope they stay in business!
This place is tucked away in a narrow lane, but is a spacious restaurant and has absolutely wonderful food. The kababs are their best.
great kababs and authentic persian bread (lavash) in a nice 'garden' atmosphere.
Authentic kababs and persian naan (lavash).
Reliable home delivery.
Nice kebabs. They have a Russian dish 'stroganoff', liked it.
