The ambience reminds me of British-style clubs in Kolkata. Had some amazing savoury and sweet (fusion) plates, though I wish the menu was slightly broader.
Punkah house is now delivering and lovely to have a seperate delivery menu. First of all, when you receive the package.. you can see the Chef's, Pakers's and the rider's temperature. Also, the packet is completely sealed and the quality is assured. They also enlist the safety procedures taken to ensure the quality and safety.
The Yangoon Noodles with Panner is an absolute treat. With mild coconut flavour and the slight red chilli based sauce, the smooth flat noodles go very well with this. The Panner with it has amazing herbs tossed and toasted with it, it was smooth and perfect.
Coconut sticky rice is not new, but ghee roasted vegetables with it is something new. One can full with a portion of this and a dessert. The vegetables roasted in ghee gives an amazing taste. The gravy had a good spice but reduced it's effect because of the ghee.
Flourless Chocolate Cake Bar is a perfect way to end a meal.
I ordered today’s lunch from Punkah house. The order came on time. The food packaging was done with safety measures along with the temperature of the chef who prepared the food and the delivery man body temperature. Great measures taken for safety for customers during pandemic time. I had spices noodles with Burmese coconut curry and chicken it was amazing. I also had sticky coconut rice with pulled jackfruit mangalorean style it was so tasty. For dessert it was flourless cake. I also has side of salsa sourcream and papad. Just love the food will try other items fr menu. If you are ordered of cooking and want to order food must try this place.
We came in for a weekend lunch. Punkah House was quite empty (all the crowd heads to the restaurant below without realising how great Punkah House really is). The food we ordered was delicious. The waiter did bungle up our order, but it was rectified and we were served the right food eventually. It has a relaxed atmosphere, slightly above average prices, excellent service quality. Loved it; this will now be my usual! Keep up the great work!
Quality of food is superb. Good variety of non vegetarian section and almost every dish was phenomenal.
Main course portioning was great.
From the lamb chops, the chilli beef with appam to everything.
The gin cocktails were loved and after a while a place had a good whiskey based cocktails.
Genuinely enjoyed it and definitely worth multiple visits.
Kapimisu brioche was not as impressive as the name. The ice cream had no flavour and no sugar.
This restaurant is very nice !! We had visited last week . The staff was very nice with us !! special thanks to birjesh did a great job !!!
The food was amazing..
I really recommend this place !!
We went to Punkah House for a cosy family dinner on a weekday and had the best experience possible.
The ambience was brilliant, quaint and almost like you were in one of the old bungalows belonging to the British Raj you often read about. Quite a few Raj-era mementos bring you that vibe including stuffed animal heads on the wall, squeaky large-bladed fans on the ceiling, and a huge gramophone.
The staff were really polite and friendly. They came in at the right time you wanted to place an order and were always hovering around a decent distance, so that they could come to you when summoned without being too obtrusive. Loved how they paid attention to every request and made good suggestions when requested. Would really love to thank the staff because they ensured we had a brilliant time and enjoyed ourselves.
And now, coming to the food, which was the highlight of the evening. What a gastronomic delight it was! They have a brilliant selection to choose from, right from quarter plates and small plates which are basically your munchies to a range of signature wood-fired flat breads and roasts & grills as your starters and dining plates to complete the course. The desserts are amazing and we were spoilt for choice. The alcohol selection is also great and includes a range of mocktails for those who don't drink.
PS: It is definitely not a place to go if you're on a budget, as they're a bit on the higher side. But if you're celebrating something special or are looking for a great experience, then Punkah House is definitely for you.
Would like to give a big shout-out to the F&B manager of Punkah House, Sivaraman, who was such a wonderful and courteous host! He personally came to check if we were having a good time and even took us on a tour to the terrace section, which is usually closed off on weekdays unless there's a corporate/personal event for a large number. It's rare to find such genuine people and it was good to be hosted by him.
We had a great time and we'll definitely be back!
Second visit to this place...unfortunately the terrace seating was closed in the afternoon. The Sunday brunch menu was slightly different from the regular weekday one. Tried Plantation Hill mocktail (coffee beans, lime and mint) and it was amazing though has slightly bitter taste from the coffee beans. My friends tried Meadow and Elderflower gypsy and they loved it. For starters, we ordered Paneer (the best I had so far) and tangri prawn roll (delicious!). We tried the flatbreads : roast chicken and aubergine but found it okay-ish. For the mains : Chargrilled prawns (my friend loved it but I found the taste bitter and didnt enjoy it), mackerel (OMG! what an innovation with this, highly recommended) and wild mushrooms (noodles with mushroom in white sauce, was good but not something I would recommend). For desserts we ordered Chocolate Eton mess which was as good as the last time I had tried it. The quantity is less and the food seems overpriced but the quality of the food makes up for everything. The way of presentation and the experimentation with the ingredients really makes this place worth visiting again and again.
Brilliant place. Very tastefully done up. The staff is just amazing. The cherry on the top is the food! Oh my god the food!!! Try anything and you will not be disappointed. The cocktails can be better though-they look fancy but I felt the taste could be improved. This however is one of my favourite fine dine places in Bangalore! It’s just lovely :)
Loved the vibe of the place, the drinks were amazing, very cute and hip. We tried the chilli beef and the kheema bread, both were good. Dessert was ok, but maybe because we were full.
Beautiful restaurant that’s right on top of Bombay brasserie, literally and figuratively speaking 😂. Stunning mix of modern and vintage decor, food sooo good, nicest time spent. Went on Thursday afternoon with friends for a early lunch, just a couple of tables were occupied. Very attentive staff, tastiest South Indian food with a twist, and the desserts to die for. Highly recommend this place for good food and ambience 👍🏻. Only nitpicking I can do is the poor poor lighting in the restroom. It was so dark that my eyes took sometime to adjust! At least a light under the mirror? How will your customers know if there’s something stuck in their teeth 😛
If one wants to try different cuisines...this place a must must visit....unique spread of a variety dishes...each with a distinct taste...very tasteful presentation...

2. Chorizo and Lentil Goan Vada

Amazing place! Super underrated. Can’t believe how good the food was, it was a very different style of Indian. Very experimental. Absolutely fantastic 10/10 would recommend
Place where vintage meets modern , colonial architecture meets modern architecture and classic Indian cuisine meets modern Indian cuisine. True to the accolades collected throughout the journey this place will surely steal your heart with its yesteryear’s charm.
Facade is done so well, whether it’s the windows, crafted furniture, flooring , walls lights, punkahs , bar counter and the very entrance.

We had a lovely experience in Punkah house - Despite not making a reservation, we were quickly seated by the polite staff. The service was some of the best we've experienced in a long time - attentive and friendly staff who knew exactly when you wanted their attention; the food and drinks were top notch and came by quite quickly after being ordered. Special thanks to Brijesh who looked after us so well. The food was scrumptious, great cocktails, and reasonably pricing considering the high quality. Everything top!
The Punkah House is an oasis for having great food in a soothing , quiet environment where you can actually have a conversation. Spread over two floors, the ambience is very vintage and English with dim lights and beautiful decor. Full marks for it!
Coming to food , we ordered
1. Karachi spiced lotus root- what a delectable appetizer. Loved this!
2. Monastery styles potatoes- spicy , well cooked and served with amazing dip.
3. Mushroom crumble : served in beautiful cups . It had perfect consistency , and right amount of cheese!
4. Flat bread - Asparagus . It was indianized version of pizza - quite decent in taste
5. Spicy Yangon noodles veg- it was mix of flat noodles , veggies and served with perfect creamy sauce ..similar to burmese noodles ..it had coconut but perfect balance of sweetness and spice! Absolutely loved this!
Unfortunately, there were quite a few items which were not available which was little disappointing.
Their kicktails are amazing- especially Rose Silk ! They have quite a variety of Gin concoctions and do note yeh quantity is huge :)
The service is quick . Overall had an amazing dinner at this place !!
‘Punkah House’ the name reinforces the definition of the hand-held palmyra leaf ‘punkah’ with a slow, hypnotic motion delivering a calming effect making everything seem more gentle and genteel. The whole vibe takes you a step back in time and making you nostalgic. The two floors of the restaurant, located in an old bungalow a little away from the main road, have decidedly different vibes: the terrace works as a tropical oasis with soothing sound of water in the background while the first floor has the look and feel of a cosy British smoking room from the colonial era with its wood furniture and flooring, gramophone, old-timey telephone and grandfather clock. The music is kept at a low volume and consists of smooth jazz.
The menu at Punkah House is laced with innovative cocktails infused with flowers, herbs and spices and the food is a rich amalgam of the old and the modern while paying a rich tribute to cuisines from the subcontinent’s culinary past - think colonial India, Sri Lanka and Myanmar. Pre-independence era atmosphere, colonial décor, leather upholstery, wicker chairs, vintage knick-knacks, all make for this cosy restaurant in namma Bengaluru.
💁🏻♂️ We begin with an amuse bouche of sago vathal with a sauce. It is interesting and sets the tone.
💁🏻♂️ Karachi Spiced Lotus Root: Crisp Lotus root tossed and spiced to perfection served alongside multiseed crackers and sour cream. This one is definitely a must try because of its unique take on lotus root.
💁🏻♂️ Monastery Roast Potatoes: Marinated baby potatoes, cooked in tandoor sprinkled with chilli on top and served on berry cream. This was little bland for my palate, may be they could spice it up.
💁🏻♂️ Rustic Chicken Dumplings: The rustic chicken dumplings in chilli pepper broth flavoured with tamarind was their take on floating dim sums and we loved it. Soft, juicy and interesting.
💁🏻♂️ Wild Mushroom Dumplings: Dumplings stuffed with mushroom and caramelised onion served alongside chilli coconut cream.
💁🏻♂️ Hoppum with asparagus and water chestnut: It’s a take on God’s own appams that our neighbours across the Strait have enhanced to make it the street food of choice in Sri Lanka. It stands tall in its crisp edges, before revealing a soft underbelly into which a creamy concoction of asparagus and water chestnuts gently soaks. We can’t stop tearing and dipping.
💁🏻♂️ Roasted Aubergine Flatbread: The flatbreads, hot off the wood-fired oven topped with curry leaf pesto, onion jam and smoked cheese. This was a big let-down, the flavours and the taste were underwhelming.
💁🏻♂️ Spinach Ricotta spheres: Spinach ricotta balls served on a bed of spinach and cream gravy alongside boul/ rounded loaves. The quantity of gravy was quite less for the bread served alongside, although it tasted yum and was very comforting.
💁🏻♂️ Toffee cheesecake: Cheesecake with bourbon caramel and roasted walnut pralines, probably one of the best cheesecakes that I have had in recent times, a must try.
💁🏻♂️ Chocolate eton mess: Flourless chocolate bars with berry sorbet, chocolate ice cream and some nuts on top. A popular dessert at Punkah House, I wasn’t quite impressed. The sorbet wasn’t done very well and the chocolate bars were a bit too dry.
🍸 We ended out dinner with some hot green masala chai (Chilli Romance). I would suggest the management to go for tea leaves instead of tea bags.
🍸For drinks, we tried their mint mojito iced coffee and the other mocktail was pineapple based. They were quite good.
The service staff are extremely polite and attentive to minor details to create a great dining experience for the diners. Although we were here on a Sunday evening, the restaurant was quite empty and the service was very quick.
Bon Appétit.
Well, it's not everyday that you have a wonderful experience when you dine out! Punkah house is definitely the place to be. With colonial vibes, rustic yet classy architecture, the community house feels and the great food that they offer, it is definitely one place now which tops the list for me.
This place opened in June this year and it's just recently that they opened for lunch. I happened to visit them on a rainy Sunday and had a great time treating myself to some amazing food fare. Foxnut Jhalmuri and Karachi spiced lotus root are my picks amongst the quarter plates. These served as a perfect accompaniment with the cocktails we ordered in. They have some brilliant Gin based concoctions to offer, their take on Gin and Tonic is a must try! In the small plates, we tried a variety of stuff, the sweet potato chops and Mushroom crumble were my absolute favorites. The Rustic chicken dumplings in chilli pepper broth was their take on floating dimsums and we loved it!
Moving to the main course, we kept the affair simple with hoppums, their take on the classic appam with various combinations of water chestnut and asparagus in the vegetarian segment and old Bombay brain scramble and pepper fry beef in the non vegetarian section. I loved the brain scramble, which tasted like mutton keema and was absolutely delicious.
In the desserts, I had their Toffee cheesecake with bourbon Caramel, probably one of the best cheesecakes that I have had in recent times, a must try! We also happened to try their aged fruit cake which is their Christmas special which had Gingersnap ice cream and banana fosters, loved it!
I am definitely heading back soon, such good food to try out! Cheers!

Punkah House is a throwback to the bygone era
Look and feel of a british Raj elite club or present day Bangalore clubs with colonial hangover .
Punkah house has tried to reinterpret the memories & emotions that evoke the charm of the old world but with a glamorous twist .
Very rarely does a restaurant impress us so much on all aspects . The Commitment to the concept is evident in décor, food & drinks & has aimed to reinterpret India's culinary past .
One of the best new launches this year in Bangalore .

➡️Ambience / Décor - Intimate & Charming . A restaurant you can visit and be sure to hear your companions speak without the loud music and closely placed tables disturbing you
So what if you cant fancy a expensive elite club membership , you can go to punkah house and experience the charm.
Styled around an English club with wooden flooring, stained glass, latticed windows, eye-catching artefacts such as wall-mounted retro telephone, grandfather clock, full-length antique dressing mirror, hat stand, Ming vases and more . second floor you will be greeted with a covered, open terrace with rattan furniture and greenery . This is a perfect spot to soak in the city’s weather.

Names of the food & drinks , ingredients and even the dishes remind one and give glimses of the time when indian was trying to build its independent identity and drawns from India , Ceylon & Burma who share a history from that era .
The menu is a mix of indian traditions and its british raj influences . Most of all everything we tried was extremely delicious and presented beautifully .
Overall :
Welcome change from the overly done micro breweres in Bangalore .
A must visit
Super ambience and great cocktails complemented by unique dishes!
If you are looking for a sophisticated gastronomic spot in Indiranagar with colonial vibes then head to Punkah House in 12th Main.
Punkah House is now open for lunch and they celebrate the good old times where India-Burma-Ceylon had many things in common when it comes to a gastronomical affair. The food and bar menu has a wide range of options available with interesting names which will take you back to a different era.
What I liked most -
*Drinks *
Pegu Imperial - The Victorian-style Burmese Club essential which had Gin, raspberry and lemon; a perfect drink for my liking.
Bengal Sour - Another favorite from the curated cocktails menu which had Tequila, triple sec, homemade raw mango shrub.
Brigadier - From the ‘Barrel-aged cocktails’ menu, this drink was presented in a classy way. The concoction made of Bourbon, absinthe, coffee and orange bitters and angostura bitters was pure bliss.
*Food*
The food here is simply fabulous. Each dish had distinct flavors and textures. If you are confused about the food menu, then ask suggestions from the sauve Chef Akshay. I enjoyed the Foxnut Jhalmoori, Rustic Chicken dumplings which comes with a chilli-pepper broth, Not-so-Wasabi lollipops, Jamun Ceviche, Sweet Potato Chops, Chorizo Vada and mushroom crumble. These classic dishes are something you must try when you visit Punkah House.
From the main course menu, I loved their Pepper Beef fry hoppums and Yangon noodles (Chicken). Being a Mallu, I can vouch for the hoppums they serve - perfectly cooked and the right balance of flavors was experienced.
After a heavy meal and long conversations with friends who are like family, we ended our lunch on a sweet note with their Toffee Cheesecake. This dessert will blow your mind.
Overall I had a great time at Punkah House and would love to visit again. The vibes of this place are brilliant and it’s a perfect place to take your date or even for a formal meeting with your client.
Punkah house is a hidden gem in heart of the city. Ambiance decorated like old-fashioned gentleman's club...I enjoyed the creative twist to many classic dishes paired with cocktails. My favourite and must try dishes were Karachi spiced lotus root, shredded cafreal lamb, fish and chips, mushroom crumble, asparagus and water chestnut with appam, old fashioned Bombay brain scramble with appam and toffee cheesecake with bourbon caramel.
Must thank Punkah house for hosting me at bloggers table.
What I got to taste from the menu:

It’s was worth the time and money. Visited with my office colleagues, place was clamming with classic jazzy interiors. Drinks were well made, food was the mind blowing part well cooked, complex flavours, appropriate portions.
This place has an awesome ambience, quaint and romantic. The service was quick and the staff were great. The food especially the flat bread was great. Definately a good find.
I loved Punkah House. The ambience, food and drinks are all amazing. We ordered the roasted baby potatoes, sesame chicken and the edamame wraps - all really good. They have an exhaustive and curated cocktail list - probably the most exhaustive in Bangalore. I had a couple of their gin based cocktails, and their G&Ts which I loved. The coriander and pepper Ginto was my favourite!
The service is excellent. The staff are warm, courteous, attentive and knowledgeable. One of my drinks had a little too much tobasco which made my lips burn - the staff immediately got some honey to relieve it. They also changed my drink and got me a new one - with their compliments.
I am definitely going back to sample more of their food - didn't feel I ate enough!
Excellent service, food and cocktails. A very cute place with a nice vibe 👍🏻 Slightly pricy, but you won’t be disappointed.
Ambience and service is really good only thing lacking was the main coarse. The desserts which we had ordered were best thing on the house, everyone liked and appreciated them. The only thing they should improve is the main coarse.
The place is really amazing for a dinner...we took the rooftop sitting and it was comfy and well maintained with old furniture and greenery around. The waiters have thorough knowlege of the menu and are very polite and give a royal treatment. We tried their signature himalayan dumplings and liked them. The hoppums as called in sri lanka are appams with a gourmet twist, found them delicious. The mocktails and cocktails were good. Tried shimla passion and it was good. The only thing is that i found the price towards the higher side apart from that worth a visit.
This is one elegant place, to begin with. The caricature on the inside is of the 19th century, with antique artifacts and decors. On the food front, it is great. Only a few times till date I have had really good lamb meat, Punkah House being one of those to have delivered. Ambience is really nice. People can actually listen, without howling at, each other. The staffs are well informed about the dishes they serve, hence they suggest the right item for the right hunger. Quantity of food is very standard and specific. Affordability is on the tighter side. Therefore, folks with humongous hunger should avoid this place. Perfect spot for date night though.
Punkah house is a space that immediately throws you back to a pre-independence India club vibe. Their ambience, food and amazing cocktails tie back to this theme.
Great place to have a fancy brunch with friends, or perfect for a date night.
Will be visiting again soon! 5/5
I recently moved to Bangalore and there are so many restaurants in my neighbourhood - especially on 12th Main - that committing to one feels daunting. But I'm happy to announce that not only is Punkah House the best restaurant in Indiranagar, it's the absolute best in the city. The food here is experimental, modernized, and justifiably expensive but it is one of those restaurants that you won’t be able to shut up about until at least two people from your social circle try it for themselves.
My favourite item on the menu is the sweet truffle cream appetizer. It's this beautiful thing that happens when intensely flavorful yogurt, truffle oil, and a smattering of herbs join forces on your plate. When it came to the table, it looked like a blank plate with a few drops of coloured oil but we dipped the crackers into the plate and realized that the entire black slate canvas was painted, corner to corner with this beautiful dip. It looks like a piece of art so maybe you should marvel at it for a few minutes and it was certainly the most exceptional thing I've eaten in 2019.
The himalayan dumplings with spinach and bamboo shoots may not be for everyone but to me it’s a dish that’s just crazy enough to work. If you're feeling less adventurous, the mushroom dumplings are really good too.
On Sundays, Punkah House serves pitch-perfect asparagus and waterchestnut hoppums and their brunch menu helped me finally understand what that underrated south indian variation on dosas is actually supposed to taste like. And this particular hoppum is the benchmark against which I’ll forever measure other hoppums. Absolute divine.
Punkah House also has a fantastic selection of cocktails - my personal favourites were the New Republic with jasmine and tulsi tea vodka and Rangoon Connection with Pisco sour but Pisco is hard to source in India so sometimes they'll swap it for vodka or gin.
Finally, I couldn't end this review without stating that Punkah House is located inside a gorgeous, historic building and is a breathtakingly beautiful and nostalgic space. To me, the epitome of accessible luxury.
It has a magic of its own! The ambience is varied and classy. It offers for all moods formal indoors and casual outdoors. The food is traditional zagged with experimentation. Service is to the mark and friendly. Huge variety for food and drinks. We ordered East Indian egg, Asparagus and Water chestnut Appam, Himalayan dumplings, Malgudi Village. Dishes were quite presentable, portion fill, and relishing. A treat for senses, personally. For drinks we tried Shimla Passion. Among the recommended places for foodies! Chocolate Eton Mess was quite refreshing in taste and freshness, however the berry sorbet didn't quite gel well with the wholesome flavor.
The place embraces colonial Indian essence. Gives antique British indo feels. it The place is very spacious has two floors of sitting both indoors and outdoors. The staff is very polite. I went on a Sunday, the table was easily available.
I would not say the food is Indian fusion, it has some Indian fusion dishes a lot of them are westernized. they gave a free small starter which was a great gesture.
Food and drinks🥗
We ordered the following dishes:
Sour mango salad: The salad had interesting flavors and texture to it, it was more on the sour and pungent side I like it but might not be everyone's cups of tea.
Rustic chicken dumpling: These were absolutely amazing, the chicken filling inside blew me out of my mind - Definitely a must-try.
Roast Chicken flatbread: The burrata was nice but the quantity relative to the flatbread was less. it was filling could use some more flavors that didn't have a distinct taste.
Chocolate eton mess: Was very well-curated, both looked and tasted amazing.
elderflower gypsy drink - The drinks look really pretty but was very less in quantity (mostly ice)
Would love to go back together and try more dishes on the menu. they have full points for presentation.
This place is royalty. The interiors, the decor, and the top floor is such a cool place to chill and enjoy your exotic drinks- Shimla Passion is my next fav drink! Good and courteous staff, complimenting the place very well. Thank you, and we will be back again soon.
The rustic chicken dumpling and roast chicken pizza was very delicious. The staff is extremely polite and efficient. Loved the ambience and food
Finally visited Punkah House and I witnessed the colonial era ambience in its glory. I must say I found this place pretty cool. Starters were mind blowing and I was really well taken care by Pempa who literally went out of his way to help me out in all things food and drinks. Many thanks to him! Must visit!
As soon as i enter the place, i felt so disconnected from the outside world. Rustic interiors with a mix of old- world minimalism!!
.
.
The food is excellent and delicious with the culinary knowledge of India, Ceylon and Burma.
The staff is extremely well trained. You get this posh treatment. Visited the place with my aunt on a Saturday evevning definitely would recommend table booking as it gets a bit full. The food was good ordered sesame chicken strips and potato eclair. For drinks had cocktails. They were really well presented. Its very kid friendly. Apt for couples who want to enjoy a drink on a Saturday evening with their baby I only wish they reduce the prices of their cocktails as it is a bit on the higher side. Overall lovely experience and great service! Thank you!
Punkah House is situated on the busy indira nagar 12th main road. From the outside itself it is quite attractive and that’s how we decided to go in. The interiors are quite intriguing. Done up very well and has a very rustic and classy feel. Ambience was great. Service was good. Little goof up with the order but I would consider that a one time thing.
The food was good. Fusion. Tried their mocha stir fry Hoppums (appam), and the roasted aubergine wood fired flat bread. Both were decent. Nothing great except the treatment and presentation.
Also ordered for a grilled tofu which was just about average.
Highlight for me was the dessert. Their chocolate Eton mess was a delight. The chocolate and the berry sorbet was a perfect well done combination. Though we did not try them, but they also serve some dessert cocktails.
A fine experience. This is more of a fine experience dining place with some decent food, quirky cocktails & mocktails, and good desserts.
To be honest, this place is a clear 5 for me. It's just that I decided to test out the consistency and my favourite dish wasn't available the second time! But 4 or 5 aside, this place is as close to perfection as it gets. Unique, comfortable and tasteful interiors create a welcoming feel, backed up by a really courteous staff. The cocktails are brilliant (Club Lucknow being my favourite) and every single item of food we ordered had layers of taste that left us intrigued and satisfied. Tip: the appetizers are better than the mains. I am really hoping they maintain their standards
Went to Punkah house based on a friend's recommendation and the place lived up to the positive review. All the food was amazing. We ate the truffle cream with beetroot chips, flat bread with ghee roasted pumpkins, broth with morels and their rendition of the Eton mess. Each dish surpassed tne last. Both food and service were good and the food is actually reasonably priced for the quality. Definitely worth a visit!
Had an awesome meal at this restaurant. The food was sumptuous and menu is extremely innovative. Hoppums and rasam ramen are must try. I have given this place 4 stars because even after making a reservation, we were seated on the terrace and thus could not enjoy the ambience of the restaurant.
Punkah House’ in Indiranagar has charms of old Bangalore #nammabangalore If you have been in Bengaluru long enough and know what ‘old Bangalore’ felt like, coming here will be like opening a door to the past era of sprawling bungalows with bustling verandas and pillared architecture,it brings a certain nostalgic vibe. They have Experimentations and Reinterpretations of the Indian subcontinent’s culinary past. The staff walks you through the menu and are very helpful with the suggestion and food.i will be visiting it again and again.
Tucked away between a busy street is this little gem. I'll start with the ambience. Quaint yet modern, which gives it a certain charm. You've got the option to be seated inside or in either of the balconies.
The service is prompt and presentation of the food is a treat for the eyes. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing the food is delicious. They've found a way to make some unusual ingredients taste brilliant. Didn't get a chance to try the cocktails but they definitely looked beautiful!
Everything about this place brought a smile to my face. Awesome old world charm about the ambience, a super friendly staff who are available to assist but dont hover around much, delectable food selection that brings modernism into simple food, exotic ingredients blended with indigenous ones, and a pallette of tastes that excited. All in all a perfect dinner... Would love to visit again.
A very well done up place. The ambience is fantastic and gives a very relaxed feel. Service is good. Different sections of seating. Alcohol is on the higher side, but still worth it. Good spread of food. The food taste is good. Right above Bombay Brasserie. This goes down as a must visit place for sure.
Need to check this place out of friday & Saturdays.
Been to this beautiful bungalow turned into bar in indranagar today for the causal dine in . Have tasted some amazing and unique dishes which draws from India , Ceylon . Enjoyed the drinks ; my most favourite whiskey sour which they have prepared it for me which wasn’t in the menu .
One of the must visit place in Bengaluru.
**New place alert**
Punkah house is located right next to Bombay brasserie on 12th main. The restaurant is designed to represent the British era and has a very English feel to it.
It serves various Indian dishes with a twist. Each dish is represented in a very modern way. Some great dishes that I would recommend are:
- Lotus stem crisps - never had such a version of Lotus stem anywhere else
- their flatbreads are a must try ( we had the roasted pumpkin one)
- wild mushroom dumplings
- the hoppums are good as well.
The ended our meal with a chilli guava ice cream which was mouth - watering. Their service was great as well. The place is slightly pricey but the money is totally worth it.
Lovely place and very thoughtfully made menu. The food is delicious and their g&t's are a hit! Had the pink grapefruit g&t and loved it! The cherry on the cake is the warm and prompt service by Manoj. Thank you for a great experience. Look forward to coming back👌👌
Great Ambience! We went there for their barrel-aged cocktails, which were great! Food was a little inconsistent, some of the dishes were outstanding while some a little sub-par.
It's hard to not drink when all the cocktails sound so tempting. Fortunately the elderflower mocktail, which tasted of summer and happy weekends, helped me stick to the resolution :) The food is exceptional at this new place, try the kashmiri morels and the Mangalore buns. Ambience is very British colonial minus the violence, although there are some cool looking, presumably unloaded rifles on the wall next to the bar.
True to the promise of the name, the fans are indeed very pretty.
Excellent decor in the old colonial style, with slatted windows, wood-and-cane furniture and clunky ceiling fans! Food is said to be a version of the cuisine from the colonial past of India, Sri Lanka etc.
Food is unusual and decent. Meat quality is excellent (e.g. lamb chops, pork belly etc) but the flavours are not that authentic (e.g. the Rasam Ramen dish didn't have the Rasam taste, though it was tasty enough). Good portions and quick service, though you might want to relax a little in the bygone era settings!

This is a new place in Indiranagar with an amazing ambience, loved the antique look of this place and really aesthetic lighting. The service was excellent and the waiters were very polite.
The food:
• Ghee roast vintage wings- a good dish, nothing extraordinary.
• Roast chicken flat bread- this is the dish to order here. The fact that this restaurant has a wood fired oven makes this dish a must try! The flat bread was on point and the chicken was delicious, and the burrata just added another level of flavour.
• Shreaded lamb- pulled braised lamb shoulder which just melts in your mouth and has an amazing depth of flavour with the spices.
• Hoppums- the taste of the appams is just amazing. It has an amazing coconut flavor to it and a subtle hint of sweetness which makes the perfect appam for me. It was cooked to perfection with a crispy outside and a soft inside. The Ceylon chicken curry served along with this is really delicious and is a good accompaniment.
• Soft Shell crab- rava fried crab served with a broth. I wasn't a huge fan of this. The crab and the broth didn't really go well together.
• Chocolate Eaton mess- this is really an amazing dessert to finish off your meal. The berry sorbet tastes so so good and refreshing, it goes really well with the flourless chocolate cake.
• Hindostanee profiteroles- another good dessert served with a spiced caramel and an amazing vanilla bean ice cream. The best part about this dessert was the vanilla ice cream because it tasted really good with an amazing vanilla bean flavor.
The prices are definitely high, but the food really makes up for it.
Punkah House we visited on a very very random Sunday assuming it was a random place.
It is not ! It's very very fancy and we were not dressed accordingly.
The interiors are just amazing.
Colonial British meets south india is the best way to describe it.
We didn't drink on this day ,although the cocktails looked amazing.
The service is absolutely sub- par , they are not under staffed , just willing to ignore anyone that is asking for their attention.
I ordered the Rasam Ramen , the quantity of the dish was just so tiny. There is literally no justification for the price being demanded.
It was tasty as hell though.
Speaking of which this follows a trend with all their dishes , where the portion size is very very average but everything was very very tasty.
We also had the grilled chicken.
The ghee roast wings.
The water chestnuts hoppers
The crusty Lamb
Silk Kari with Chicken
Everything was great to taste.
This place was so close to a 5 , if only the staff was attentive and the portion size was good.
Must visit to try.
This place is amazing! Inspired and good tasting food. The basics of a good dine out. This place does nothing conventional and it’s nice.
The ambience is relaxed and takes you back to the raj. The service staff is warm, cordial and friendly. The guy servicing is - Brijesh, knew he food and beverages very well.
The menu is new so Don’t decide on your own - ask for recommendations and you will be happy. The cocktails are amazing especially the curated ones.
Food hit the table quick and the presentation was excellent, and quirky.
The desert of home spun ice cream with pink guava was insane.
A bit pricey but it was a fun night. Will definitely head back for more.
This is probably my new favorite place to dine in!!! Absolutely amazing and classy ambience...polite staff...fast service...and they have added their own twists to some of the most plain old dishes and made them all the more delicious! We had their Chicken and olive noisettes and Crispy lamb cooked with sticky rice in galouti spices...and to finish it off, their Chocolate Eton mess... And gawd it was all one better than another! Every bite was a burst of a thousand flavours in my mouth. Absolutely worth visiting. I am going back soon to try out their brunch menu that is starting next week!😊
It has very rustic and old themed decor with big sofas, people can relax over a game of bridge, chilling with smoking pipe. Lot of Antiqs have been placed throughout.
Tried out the rustic chicken dumplings. It was amazing with different taste to it with the chili pepper broth.
The roast chicken wood fire flatbread served with fermented chili salsa and Burrata cheese on it.
The Ramen rasam with chicken, sprouts was very good.
The home churned ice cream guava flavor was very refreshing.
All the dishes presentation was good.
Great place to chill out and great addition to the 12th Main road.
Finally got to check out this place yesterday. And so glad I did. It’s absolutely beautiful - the ambience has an old world charm about it. With antique furniture, old framed photographs and dark wood. The soft jazz they were playing in the background just added to the appeal.
The food was absolutely on point. We tried the eastern egg, the jamun ceviche (my god, it was so good!) and the pulled pork with mangalore buns (another winner). And they very sweetly gave us some dessert on the house. The guava and white chocolate ice cream with birds eye chilli was a perfect end to our meal.
For drinks we tried their pepper and coriander G&T - as good as Toast & Tonic which has always been my fave G&T place. Their Bengal Sour was the winner though - with a slice of mango and a sprinkling of chilli dust!
Service was wonderful. The folks there were polite, attentive and really made you feel welcome. I ended up checking out their rooftop as well - which is great if you want a more casual, open space.
Punkah House has definitely climbed to the top of my charts now. It’s great for a romantic evening, or a place to catch up with friends without the usual chaos of Indiranagar bars. And it’s perfect if you want a quiet evening to yourself as well.
Rates this place 5 purely for the cocktails and ambience. The hospitality was amazing. I am definitely coming back for the cocktails. Ask for saffron infused whiskey, corporal, oolong tea cocktails. Plus Himalayan dumplings for sure. Did not experiment with the food, because I am not a pumpkin, asparagus or a zucchini person. But lotus stem crackers were so good. Definitely felt pampered.
One of those places I'm glad exists so close to my house! Punkah House reminds me of the Colonial past of India & South (East) Asian countries like Singapore, Burma etc. The food menu consists of Indian fusion, but not the kind that's been done to death in other places. The Cocktails are simply superb! Love the Gin cocktails, they go very well with the fantastic ambiance of the place. Even the mocktails are really good! I've tried the Flatbreads and a few other large plates here, want to try more to elaborate on this review.
As mentioned earlier, fantastic decor. Your Instagram and other social media will be full of photos thanks to the many curios you'll find here. And the service is top notch. Can't wait for yet another visit!
This has a quaint and lovely setting for a perfect meal.
The mushroom dumpling was fantastic and so was the chicken drumstick starter with some south indian flavours.
The drinks are also so flavourful and go well with the food and environment.
Must visit for a nice meal with family or friends.
A little on the expensive side!
Punkah House is a throwback to the era of sprawling bungalows with bustling verandas and pillared architecture, and the memories and emotions they evoke even today.Adding to this, the place almost draws memories of our very own BANGALORE CLUB too.The place is done to perfection resembling a COLONIAL BUNGALOW in terms of the ambience, the furniture and the elements put across. Spread on 2 floors, the second floor is a joy to be there with such a lively atmosphere which includes greenery, the lighting and as well the seating arrangements. Speaks volumes about the Owners passion and involvement.
The place boasts of a huge well stocked bar with a equally talented bartender who whips up some of the best Cocktails.
The Service is amazingly fast, the Servers extra charged up to keep the patrons happy and are ready to go the extra mile.
The Chef here is a asset and is well versed with the Culinary knowledge of India,Ceylon and Burma.Get ready to be pampered.

Am just waiting for the upper floor to be opened to PUBLIC to visit them again for the perfect ambience, good Service and great food.
Came here for lunch with my friend, who's quite particular about presentation and ambience.
The service, ambience and food was excellent.
The dessert was exceptional.
Went here for the first time and it turned out to be better than what I'd thought of.
There's limited veg option, but, what's available is really good.
A beautiful place with lovely food. All the food we ordered were exceptionally good. If I have one feedback the servers did not do justice in explaining the great food they serve and had difficulty in understanding our customisation requests. I’m guessing this must be due to
Starting pains so I’m willing to over look it. Another complaint the tables are too close for comfort.
If you are confused about the food menu, then ask suggestions from the sauve Chef Ashwin.
Once you overcome the small challenge (only for senior citizens!) of the steps to reach the door of Punkah House above the Bombay Brasserie on 12th Main Road (the Restaurant district of Indiranagar, Bangalore), prepare yourself for a culinary experience, the likes which is not available elsewhere in Bangalore. As you enter, you can be forgiven for thinking you have entered a century old colonial club in the plantations of India, Burma or Ceylon (Let us stick to the old names here). The word Punkah refers to the manually pulled cloth fans which were used in colonial days to keep the white and brown sahibs cool while they went about their lives. Like many in Bangalore, if you prefer open air, there is a canopied area above the main restaurant, which would suit you.
After you step into the main area, you notice the micro-herbs jostling with the jars of infusion on the counter across the wood fire oven, built for their breads. It makes your tongue tickle! The gramophone and the bio-scope are sure to kindle our curiosity. There are more artifacts and pictures that talk history.
As you are seated, ready yourself for curated cocktails, inspired starters, cleverly modified main courses and the delightful desserts. This is the place you need to go, once you are tired of the regular fare of rotis and biriyanis with predictable side dishes. The staff walk you through the menu and are helpful with suggestions. Having ordered, you wait with trepidation for the food to arrive. When it comes, it does not disappoint your eyes, nose or tongue. We tried two curated cocktails with Saki and rum, a main course consisting of the good old aappam, one with banana flower curry and another with water chestnut (imagine that) curry. The mushroom dumplings, the lotus stem crispies and the sambal take you from north to south. The sorbet for our lactose intolerant grand daughter was a thoughtful offering.
If you are looking for routine food, this is not the place for you. But if you often wonder where they serve things similar to what is shown on Master Chef, you should definitely go to Punkah House. You may not fully understand the menu but if you let yourself be guided, you will not be disappointed. Including one cocktail the cost per person could be about Rs 1500.
Tucked away in an obscure Indira Nagar corner, the decor of Punkah takes you away to a bygone era - wood, brass and lazily turning fan. Everything here is period-spec and a mecca for steam-punk fans. Your round metal eyeglasses will fit in here like a glove.
They serve speciality food and drinks from South Asia. I'm told they have excellent gin based drinks.
In all, a lovely place to spend an evening with friends.
Fine dining experience at it's best. The most catchy and unique thing about this place is the decor and ambience which might take you to an older time. And this place keeps it up with a very dedicated service staff. The menu is quite interesting and might overwhelm someone new. However, do not be deceived, the creations from this kitchen are some of the best food I have tasted in a long time. It is just a very new combination of flavours that work really well for the Indian palate. The names might not be familiar but do not be afraid to try the selection. There are some great drinks as well again some which you may not have seen anywhere else but do not be afraid as the 2 original cocktails I tried were very good. To sum it up great take on Indian food in a very cosy fine dining setting with an experience waiting for you.
Currently one of the best places to visit in Bangalore. The food is utterly so delicious. And with a class apart service . The “ potato chops and the spiced paneer “ were just awesome. Definitely a must go experience for people who love this sort of modern Indian food and amalgamated cocktails pairing with their food .
I thank Vijay too for his personal touch of hospitality and flamboyant service to us . A through gentleman at his service.
This place has got awesome food and a good ambience. Try the roasted chicken. It is amazing. The staff is knowledgeable about the food and gives good suggestion. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends.
Lovely take on Modern Indian cuisine! Especially liked the sweet truffle cream with mixed nuts quarter plate, and am looking forward to visiting this establishment many more times 😋
Great food and fantastic ambience. Very Pricey. Don't go near the drinks Menu unless your ok to burn some serious cash
Really great and quiet environment, food is great as well. If you are looking for a peaceful and quiet evening with good food then I definitely recommend it. Downside is the food is expensive but I felt it was worth it.
Good place. Some great food. Some innovative cocktails. Definitely worth a visit.
Great food, yummy cocktails, superb service! Highly recommend Punkah house.
I love punkah house because of the ambience the delicious food and variety of the cocktails
Lamb chops are a must try.
And it's a perfect place to bring your spouse / date because of the romantic setting. Would highly recommend for the unique experience.
However, only area of improvement can be slightly more vegetarian options.
