Best pocket-friendly Bar and Restaurant. Enjoyed the time with friends here a lot. Non-veg starters were really good. Though, they dont serve beef/pork. Tender Coconut Chicken is one of the yummiest. The Cheese Cherry Pineapple was nice to have to with alcohol. The best part is, if you are lucky, they have promotional offers on alcohol on certain days. You might get +1, free shots, etc. On the whole, one of the best Mangalorean Bar & Restaurant.
One of the best mangalorean restaurants in Bangalore. Must try their speciality the tender coconut chicken also some of the other dishes are the anjal masala fry, the crab masala fry, prawns sukka for starters and do not forget to order the dal kichidi for mains. The drinks are also priced reasonable. If you ever visit Vasantnagar side this is the place you need to dine at.
Come here try out the tender coconut chicken and fall in love with the flavours of this amazing dish. Do Not forget the chicken sukka. Proper kudla gadang. Mangloreans will know what I mean.
The food is good for the price. The ambiance is also cozy however the lighting is poor. Starters were really nice. Seafood is also good. Value for money. Would recommend it if you're in the vasanth nagar area.
The seafood items are available and lot of varieties are available. Prawns kolivada is must try. Food is not as costly as other bar and restaurants.
This is my absolute favourite place . Such comfortable setting . The service guys makes you feel at ease , food is fast . Great place to catch up with friends post my work in Cunningham Road . It is always buzzing with people of all age who appreciate value for money , good food . The tender coconut kebab is the best dish ever .
It's an amazing place to have Mangalorean food. They serve amazingly tasty tender coconut chicken, pot biriyani, fish and ghee roast is something I absolutely love it in this place.
The ambiance and seating arrangement is somewhat unkmept, but surely that doesn't take away the credits for the amazing service they provide.
I happened to visit this place a week ago with a large group. We had ordered tandoori chicken, chicken kebab, Afghani kebab, butter nana, butter chicken, chicken biryani and prawn biryani. The food was amazing! The Afghani kebabs were especially yummy. The chicken was perfectly cooked and beautifully marinated. The prawn biryani was a little too spicy but overall the food was excellent. The seating however was unkempt and the place was dirty. Will definitely get food from here but by takeaway or home delivery
Ujwal serves karavli style foods. This was my favourite place when I used to live in vasant nagar. Good and decent ambience. Tender coconut kebab is a must try. They serve really good kori rotti.
While the food is same as the other branch in sanjaynagar, this restaurant has better service. Tender coconut kabab will perhaps sit well with beer and drinks...
I normally order from this place when I am nearby cantonment area. Never been to this restaurant. The food is above average and pocket friendly. I had kadhai paneer and mix veg. Both were good. Give it a try.
Value for money-3.5/5
Quality of food-3.5/5
Ended up going to this place as there's no good restaurant near my friend's house in the same locality and i don't regret going here. He had the usual same menu but interestingly he has few unknown names and the shocking part is how they are served.
The tender coconut chicken is actually served in a tender coconut. Next the Pot Biriyani comes in a Matka. All these were interesting and tge dishes were also tasty. Only part i dislike is alcohol is priced slightly on the higher side.
Will definitely come back to taste their Manglorean dishes.
I've been here twice so far, and both times I have really enjoyed the food. It appeals to my taste palette perfectly; Spicy and bursting with masala. I've tried a variety of their dishes and I've noticed they only have 3-4 types of gravy, which is paired in combination with your choice of meat or vegetable as per the style you choose.
I've tried the Chicken Chilli, Pepper Chicken Masala , Prawn Koliwada , Egg Masala and Green garlic Babycorn and the Tender Coconut Chicken which is a chicken masala cooked and served in a green coconut! All the dishes taste good. The service can be lacking sometimes though.
As for the ambience, it's not too great. Very dark and dingy and plenty of people smoking around you. The top most floor (there are 3) has the best ventilation because of the huge open windows. The Alcohol is pretty cheap and one of the few places I've been to recently that still stock Bira Beer, which is an Indian brew, and very comparable in taste to Hoegaarden.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to eat delicious Mangalorean food on the cheap, along with a couple of drinks.

Ever since I've come to Bangalore, I've always wanted to check out some local bar/restaurants. Quite a few people recommended Ujjwal. My friend and I went for dinner. We went up to the first floor and got us a table. It was written on the wall that it's no smoking but people were smoking. The waiter confirmed that it's cool. We ordered an egg curry, chicken chili and some roti/naan. Much to our surprise, they served us bira beer. We got two whites and were really happy. The service is a bit off. I had to wait for the bread and it made me lose my appetite a little. The egg masala was amazing. Beer went great along with it. My friend enjoyed his chicken chili too. We were chuffed to bits at the end of night and would definitely recommend/visit Ujjwal again. Check out the ujjwal pot curry. It's cooked inside a coconut. Veg and non veg are available!
Wanna have a Drink in a not so loud place?! Come here! Good coorgy Style Food!! the tender coconut Chicken is great.Easy to step in and out from time to time. Good place Casual outing, after long!
When I went back to Ujwal recently, it was after a gap of more than a year. In the interim, they had refurbished the place. Still, the interiors are by no means hep. At its heart, Ujwal is a workman's bar: a place you'd head to after a hard day at work, and where you'd catch up with colleagues and other associates. Most evenings, you will find groups of working professionals here. Though most of them are male, I have seen women having a good time too.
The best food here is the Mangalorean section (neer dosa, tender coconut chicken, fish rava fry, etc.). Most starters are good too (like the pakodas, egg chilly, tandoori panner, baby corn, chicken, etc.). However, I tried their North Indian fare once and swore to never do that again. What else am I to do if they make dal, channa masala and other gravies with curry leaves, mustard seeds and an overload of garam masala? :)
This is a resto-bar. While the liquor is priced sensibly, the food is costly. You don't get draught beer; only the bottled version. Of the two or three levels, I like the top floor the best.
If you are in Vasanth Nagar, you may want to check out this place once with friends or colleagues. If you are headed to the Cantonment station nearby to catch a train, it will be a good idea to first tank up here. Cheers.
A good place to grab a quick lunch which is easy on ur pocket. The starters were good but the main course was average. The service was quick and the staff ia friendly.
We ordered chicken tandoori, green chilli mushroom which were good but chicken tikka masala was just ok.
Definitely a easy-on-pocket place but the ambience and crowd isn't that great... ideal place for Men group. Tender Coconut Chicken is a must try. One of the best Prawns Biryani ever had...
Good chicken biryani. Courteous waiters. The non vegtarian items are quite good. Ideal for afternoon lunch. This place is closest to my office.A very good restaurant for non-vegetarians in millers road
Definitely a easy-on-pocket place but the ambience and crowd isn't that grtt. Coconut paneer is a must try. Spicy Mushroom was also good. But Juices were watery and too sweet.

A budget bar and restaurant this definitely has some good food and cheap liquor. Ambience and crowd is definitely not so good but I visit for food. The coconut chicken and coconut paneer is amazing. And the neer dosa red curry is must try.
The Place i thought a local bar huh the food here is madness
I had the best neer dosa with gee roast chicken 😘 with the most waited Tender coconut chicken wow grt place to try mangii food
I can't believe I've not recorded a review of this place when I can be found here every fortnight or so!
Amazing Coconut chicken, fish fry and chilly chicken. Well-priced alcohol. The top floor is my favourite, and I invariably bump into a friend here each time.
Recently renovated, but don't judge the place by its looks merely. Value for money is too strong to ignore.
Called for home delivery. Awesome food. Their tender coconut kabab is the best. A must try wit the the neer dosa and the idli kind of things. The prawns are also too good. Their chicken gravy dishes are also very nice. A must try for the food.
A very good place for single couple and family.. They have a kind of okay Okay interior...
Food is awesome....
Try having tender coconut chicken and pot biryani....
Silver fish fry is good ask for more spice.....

Don't be fooled by the appearance of the hotel because you get awesomely tasty food here... The ambience is decent, nothing stylish... So if your are looking for good food which is pocket friendly too but don't mind how the ambience is then this is the place to go... My all time favourite is chicken ghee roast and kundapur chicken curry with neer dosa.
Great place for a good meal and a few drinks if you're on a budget. The tender coconut chicken is a must have! The biriyani is a pretty decent spicy Andhra style one and wash it down with a few beers without burning a hole in your pocket
I'll begin with an apology for not putting up a photo of the epic/unique/catchy tender coconut chicken kabab.
It was because the place was so dark in the night suggesting a slightly shady ambience.
We got right to the "tender coconut chicken kabab" in the order and I was sitting there awestruck at the fact that it was green spicy chicken nicely sitting inside a coconut. The waiter scoops out the chicken along with tender coconut on the sidewalls and serves it.
Best.
On the other hand, the main course, chicken curry and neer dosa wasn't that good. :(
Something was putting me off about the gravy. It was at the most, decent. I suggest try something else.
But don't leave the place without making the waiter scoop out that chicken just the way I described.
Gl hf.
Once I decided to try out nearby restaurants close to my place and badly wanted to have north Indian food. I read the reviews for this restaurant and I ordered and I wasn't disappointed as the food was pretty good and the quantity is justified by its price. It's speciality is sea food so I m looking forward to try fishes over here for which they are known for.

On work in the area, I went here for lunch twice in 10 days, maybe because the other options nearby were bad branches of Imperial and Empire. A two storied place on the main road with very basic but comfortable seating; few tables in the ground floor and a larger area in the first floor for families. It specializes in Mangalore style food and their menu has a tantalizing array of specialities from the area. They also serve Andhra and the ubiquitous Chinese too.
The first time, I ordered a veg meal and a side dish of Andhra Green Chilly Chicken and boy, was I surprised. It really had been a while (years) since I had the dish as spicy as it is meant to be. Six delectable pieces of soft pieces immersed in spoonfuls of the mashed chilly green gravy was an absolute fire cracker. A dish like that can make you love a simple main course, in this case, my veg meal. The meal on its own too was quite delicious. My second experience wasn't as good as the first. I ordered a Chicken Biryani. It was around 3 pm and that could be a reason (if you are feeling gracious), the Biryani wasn't hot. It was less oily, had good chunks of meat and tasty but not as good as it would have been if it was hot.
Next time, I would try the Mangalore specialities and hopefully the rating would go a step higher.
Good place for excellent sea food. USP are the masala fries - anjal, kane, prawns. The pot biriyani is good as well. For this area, the place is very competitively priced compared to Windsor pub which is in the vicinity. Overall, a good deal.
The place is newly done up and the bearers have new and clean uniforms as well. Good decision by the management since I noticed many ladies among the lunch crowd. This was not the case as recent as 6 months ago :)
If you are a vegetarian, try the peanut masala for 'sides' with Old Monk or 'touchings'(as its known in Bangalore).
The Dal Khichdi(served with raita) and Palak rice is to die for. I'll just say this : I was feeling homesick until I finished a bowl of each. *burrp*
I've crossed this place more times than I count and my only regret is that I didn't dine here every single time.
The mangalorean cuisine served here is a delightful accompaniment to the beer. Would strongly recommend the peanut masala, chicken ghee roast and the mutton biriyani That's served in a pot. Be warned that it takes AtlEast two people to finish that.
Looking forward to coming back again.
When my close chum suggested this place for a meet up, I was expecting the regular Mangalorean fare which is present all over Bangalore. However, I was much more than pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of the food they serve.
You would need multiple visits for trying out their variety. But to create the perfect first impression, try the guntur chicken and the paneer pakoda. Guntur chicken was spicy, full of heavenly native shallots, pungent garlic, cashew nuts and we loved it. I'm a stickler for a properly cooked garlic and I love that mellow, nutty taste. It made me really happy to find it outside home.
The paneer pakoda was awesomely delicious.
We tried the tender coconut chicken (how can you miss that). Heads up! That dish was spicy! It has generous amounts of the most spicy variety of the dangerous green chili :). Goes well with tandoori roti. For all said and done, Its a dish I would definitely take a risk and try again.
You get all the range of bottled alcohol and they serve at a slight mark up from MRP.
Next time I would try Mangalore's staple - the ghee roast.
Bloody good starters ... For people who booze..and need good spicy food its the best place... Andra cuisine is something they are expertised.. Good ambience amazing dinner too...
This is one of those shoddy looking bar and restaurants but like many say for books, dont judge it by its cover. The 3 floor restaurant is a haven for those who like good mangalorean style food with a chilled beer and a bunch of good friends for company. Go ahead and try just about anything on their menu and you wont be disappointed. We were a bunch of 7 and so took the chance to try out as much as we could. The tender coconut chicken and also the paneer option, the chicken ghee roast and once again the paneer option too, kori roti, pot biryani, palak khichdi, veg fried rice, curd rice, prawns fry and of course loads of beers! The palak khichdi was something i used to miss in bangalore and was delighted to find a fab one here. The kori roti, well i think i will go to mangalore pearl when i am in the mood for just that. Apart from that tho, Ujwal is surely one of my other new favs. Mangalore pearl, you do have some competition looks like! Oh for the girls, dont worry too much about going in here. It is absolutely safe. :)
Nice place. Good to hang around with friends. Food was awesome. But crowdy place. Serving was food and varities of food are excellent. Need to improve the ambience
Ujwal is one of the best restaurant and bar in its category. The interiors recently done looks good. Its in Vasant Nagar where u get good food and liquor at cheap rates, no compromise on quality. As my cousins wanted to have some beer I suggested them we go to Ujjwal. I was there for their food as I had heard a lot. We ordered for kaane masala fry, silver fish fry, bangda tawa fry. Every thing served was very very good. The masala fry was the best. They even do home delivery. Loved the food.

The Pot Biriyanis are the best in this road comparing Imperial and Empire! Could improve in cleanliness and service. Decent crowd though it serves alcohol. Give it a try if your in the neighbourhood!
This one is special for pot biriyani and some spicy chicken curries. Nice place for friends to come together for a drink. Love few coastal cuisines here.
Located diagonally opposite Millers 46, this is actually more of a local bar kind than a restaurant. Yes it's dark, it's dingy and shady! If you're a girl, you'll probably be one of 2-3 at that place. But Ujjwal serves up some amazing food and alcohol so cheap, you want to dance in joy. A large Gin for 70/- - I looked at the menu in utmost disbelief and the ambience just didn't bother me anymore. While the crowds aren't cheap or bothersome really, if you're a girl, it would still be wise to visit this place if you've got male company, and if you're unfazzled by the Indian Male Staring Syndrome (apologies for the generalisation), you should be fine here! The food here is some of the best I've eaten at a bar cum restaurant place such as this. While it's loaded with oil, colour and spices, it is super tasty and goes well with the drink! Definitely not a place that serves fancy cocktails or even tonic water for that matter. I had to make do with soda with my gin :-P Food wise, do not miss their peanut masala- really tasty, French chicken- a staple at these sort of joints and while there is nothing remotely French about it, it's so yumm- packed with chillies, curry leaves and spicy masala with tender strips of chicken. The Roasted Cashew is something I saw at pretty much every table. While I'm not at all a fan of cashews, I could see two plates of these dry masala coated cashews being lapped up real quick by the boys at the table- so it must be something worthwhile! One of the specials you must try here is the Tender Chicken- it's a unique dish cooked with spices and the insides of the coconut and is served in a tender coconut too! Absolute stunner of a dish. Also tried the crispy chicken which was basically fried bits of chicken with sesame seeds served with a hot garlic sauce. Found it too oily but scrumptious nonetheless. We ordered the Guntur Chicken, but the meat was really tough and chewy, owing to them having stored it in the freezer, which the manager readily accepted and he was kind enough to cancel the order and bring us something else instead! We opted for another French Chicken :D Last order was the fish biryani- flavoursome rice and subtly spiced but the fish was slightly overcooked and had a very fishy smell which was a bit off putting. The food is loaded with garlic (surprise surprise!) so ensure you pop a mint soon after :-P
Place looks like a great option for a bunch of guys to go pig out on a budget and just chill the evening away. Girls may think twice but if you get past the crowd and ambience, you may actually enjoy it, as I did!
Servers are really friendly and service is quick. The manager comes by to enquire if you're having a decent time and will run up to you with the menu if they find your plates and glasses are nearing empty!
I don't even have to speak of its value for money! They have it going for them completely in this regard. I can't remember the exact orders but the bill for three rounds of drinks each for 3 people and roughly 6 starters to share and a biryaani came up to Rs. 2100. A complete steal!
Food- 4/5
Ambience- Nothing great so 2.5/5 - but it doesn't matter
Service- 4/5
Value for Money- 6/5
HOME DELIVERY REVIEW.
The "more of a bar than a restaurant" tag Ujjwal has may see many settle for takeaways from this place. But however the food reaches you, it's perfect in every way - piping hot, with a heady aroma, OH-SO-DELICIOUS and amazing value for money.
My staple order from this Mangalorean restaurant is the Fish Biryani (Rs 200). Easily the best I have had in town so far. Aromatic and rice blended with spices and WAY TOO MANY pieces of boneless fish coated in spices. You usually dont get the "way-too-many" pieces of meat comment for biryanis. The same goes for the chicken and mutton varieties as well (priced around Rs 140). The Fish Biryani is tops though. The biryani rice is cooked differently and boy, it shows!
On other occasions happened to order panneer and onion pakodas and they were delivered all hot and crispy, not a bit soggy. Their chicken gravies are so-so but romali rotis are a treat.
Their kori roti is famous but will have to make it to the restaurant to dig in.
Love the place and grateful for it. No extra delivery charges and no minimum orders (you tend to be considered a regular customer after the first couple of orders). Ample quantity of food, served just the way it should be.
The food is really good here...the best is tender coconut kabab and mutton pot biryani...and yes you can have your favourite drink as well...all in all total paisa vasool place.
I have been visiting this place and their other branches since the last 5-7 years. But never thought of writing a review for them. I usually go there for the beers along with my cousins. A mangalorean food paradise. It's not that they have only Mangalorean Food but it's their speciality. The food is great. I like their Tender Coconut Chicken (chicken gravy served in tender coconut), Crab Masala (the masala filled crab tastes absolutely amazing) and hot Palak Rice (texture of bisibele bhaat).
Ambience: 8/10
Value for money: 8/10
Taste: 9/10.
Awesome, the terrace is the bomb
I wonder why no one reviewed this place before. Paradise for Mangalorean Cuisine. You will get absolutely everything there. Seafood is the best. Fish Masala Fry, Tawa Fry, Rava Fry etc etc etc. Though looks to be a very ordinary place, the food here is apt for all seafood lovers. Recommended Seafood, Fish Biryani, Prawn Biryani, Kori Roti, Neer Dosa, Egg Chilly, Chicken Ghee Roast.... Lot more... I have tried,i believe everything from there menu and never felt regretting anything ....They also have Chicken, Fish and Mutton thali meals. Place is crowded during Lunch and Dinner time especially Friday to Sunday. So you have to be bit early to get a seat... Don't worry about ambiance of the place, just have there food and i am pretty sure you are gonna go back again.... The prices are cheap compared to other seafood hotels around...Must try place... Only concern this is not a place to come with a family and dine...
