This review is for the Alila Sunday brunch that happens at Pasha Bar and Grill. The food is not limited to that of Pasha's but the fact that it's right next to the pool makes for a perfect venue for the Sunday brunch. And yes, the pool can be used if you're here for the Sunday brunch.
We walked in, dot at 12 noon, for their Sunday brunch and fell in love with the ambiance. Open, non-clustered, plenty of sunlight and the pool right next door (though you can't really see the pool when you are sitting inside). When we entered, there were very few people but as time progressed, lots of people did drop in and yet, not even for a moment did this place feel crowded. Also setting the mood, was live music. And if the weather permits, you are more than welcome to lounge by the pool with your drinks and some nibbles.
FOOD AND DRINKS
The food menu for their Sunday brunch is HUGE! This includes:
- Breakfast Items: Croissants, Puffs, Donuts, Cheeses, Waffle, Pancake, French Toast, etc.
- Eggs: Made to Order, Eggs Benedict, Eggs, Eggs Florentine.
- Cheeses.
- Salad Bar: Lots of toppings. You can make your own.
- Tapas ( On Order Basis) : Fried Calamari, Bite Sized Pizzas, Baby Corn Tempura, Nachos, Mushroom and Olive Bruschetta, and much more.
- Mains ( On Order Basis) : Jerk Chicken, Miso Fish Steak, etc. In total, they had 5 items here.
- Sandwiches, Burgers and Wraps (On Order Basis) : 4 to 5 items.
- Indian Starters (On Order Basis) : around 4 to 5 Indian Starters.
- Live Counters: 1) Grills - That had all sorts of meats (nothing really for the vegetarians) and 7 different sauces for the same. 2) Appams. 3) Pasta. Also, I think there was one more, but I'm not too sure for what it was.
- Buffet Items: Was mostly Indian and Oriental. Options were many.
- Desserts: Ice cream bar (with lots of toppings), Cheesecake, Blueberry Cake (like a Blueberry blackforest), Brownies, Chocolate cake, etc. Was a relatively smaller spread, but the items were good.
In the beverage menu. they had:
- Mocktails
- Teas and Coffees and Milkshakes
- Cocktails - Not just your regular cocktails, but really interesting ones. And a huge menu to choose from.
As you probably figured, it is absolutely impossible to cover everything so we went with picks that we really wanted to eat and drink, rather than wanting to try everything.
- What Really Stood Out? Fried Calamari, Bite Sized Pizzas ( What a clever idea!), Baby Corn Tempura, Live Grills (for the non vegetarians) accompanied with the Wasabi Mayo sauce, Paneer Tikka ( super soft) Chocolate Brownie and Chocolate Cake.
- What Disappointed? The Nachos. It was Senor Peppito Chips with some toppings! This was a BIG let down. If you cannot make tortilla chips, don't have it on the menu.
- The pasta counter was decent. It isn't outstanding pasta, but it worked for me because I got to customize the pasta to my liking. They also had Thai Green Curry which wasn't spicy at all ( They have a lot of foreign patrons), but I quite liked the taste.
Coming to the drinks, this is where Alila really scored! They actually had interesting drinks. Not something you find easily. We tried a total of 8 between the 2 of us.
1) Peach Mojito (So good. With real muddled Peach), 2) Basil Cooler (super), 3) Pomegranate Martini (good) 4) Raspberry Cooler (Excellent. With real raspberries), 5) Frozen Raspberry Torte ( Very good, with real raspberries), 6)Lemongrass and Chilli Cooler ( Something unique, pretty good. But might not be to everyone's liking), 7) Passion Fruit Margarita ( very good), 8) Espresso Martini (Excellent. Not your usual drink. Many may not like it)
SERVICE
The service was fantastic. We were always served with a smile, empty plates and glasses were immediately noticed and cleared and the next order was immediately taken. And it wasn't just the waiters and waitresses. Every one, including the chefs behind the live counters were very courteous and friendly.
Also, on a special side note, I had called up a few days in advance to inquire about the Sunday brunch menu. Being a vegetarian, I wanted to know I had enough options that I would like. I called them twice and both the times the menu hadn't been decided. They then asked me my email id and told me they will mail me the menu once it is decided. And sure enough, a day later, I got a call from them saying that a part of the menu had been emailed to me. Kudos to them for remembering and sticking to their word.
VALUE FOR MONEY
One hundred percent!! Their alcoholic brunch is for Rs.1500 plus taxes which amounts to around Rs.1800 per person. Service charge is not included in the bill and I always think that's a good thing. One should have the freedom to tip as per how they were served. Oh yes, and in this money, pool usage is included too.
Would I recommend? Oh yes! Hands down, this is one of the best Sunday brunches in Bangalore!
