Reviews Bhikaram Chandmal Restaurant

They are one of the few places in Bangalore that serve bombay paav. The pav in bombay is made with sourdough and I don't find that even in high end bakeries and malls. Most of the bakeries sell bread shaped like pav. They also have decent ingredients which you can buy to make chaat at home. I have tried their milk cake which tasted fresh. Overall it's a decent halwai

Ok. So it's very apparent Zomato reviewers are full of psuedo-foodies and not to be trusted. On this list of reviews, I saw one them say go for Laddoos instead as its cheaper and better. I did order from Laddoos just now AND its way too bad! So essentially someone has recommended a place which serves samosas with residual saturated oil left on top from reheating at least twice, chola with thick oil floating on top (to make it worse, its bland - how is that even possible!) and reheated bhatura. Needless to say, it cost me the same. Some other review says that uncle at counter is too friendly and tries to make you taste and buy stuff (he's a really nice chap if you speak respectfully - something that should be the case with every conversation you have with anyone). So apparently this reviewer has issue with shopkeeper being a good salesman?

Now coming to Bhikaraam's case. I live 100m from this shop and frequent this place for Sunday breakfasts, weekend light snacks. It is NOT a fancy restaurant - it is a normal halwai shop you'd probably find in your hometown. So why am I rating it 5 stars? Coz it does all the things you'd expect of a halwai shop well - the raw items they use are of extremely good quality (which also makes them relatively expensive - you don't expect to buy real khoa and chena sweets for cheap, unless they are adulterated). Now, if you have ever been a regular at such shops, you'd know that samosas, kachodi, jalebis, etc are made twice everyday and in order to really enjoy them, you got to reach there at that time. I have never seen Bhikaram reheat their stuff unless you specifically ask them to (which is awesome coz reheating saturates oils, making it taste worse and also extremely bad for health). So if it's early morning or evening and you want some good north Indian snacks, this is a place you can blindly go to.

Summing up, it is a brilliant place to eat snacks and light meals. Why am I being critical about "food critics" on Zomato? Coz I have noticed that people tend to rate shitty food at fancy places high and good food at simple places low. It's not cool to be critical of places which are doing an honest job at maintaining quality and taste but cannot give you that feel good ambience due to budget constraints or by being more focused on food. While rating places like these, remember the type of food and experience and price point you go there for. Why is this important? Coz your review actually affects sales of these places. Most good places like this cannot afford paid reviews either.

Good food. There are a lot of varieties in chaat and sweets. I especially liked their Rewari Gajak and Til Gajak. Since, it is Sankranti time, I was looking forward to having authentic foods. I also recently came across a site, fomokart[dot]com which accepts orders from Bhikaram Chandmal and delivers it to your doorstep. If you are looking for fresh products and deliveries, I suggest you try that site.

Been here quite often for many years. The chats and food is very good.. service is pretty much hit and miss.. and depends on the moody staff. I have had great experiences with service and terrible ones too. One time I had to wait an hour for a chole bhatura.. lol. Nevertheless the food and chats is great and I will continue visiting.

They used to make some of the best chaats out there. Their quality seems to have gone down late. But personal service remains

A fabulous place to satiate those sweet tooth cravings! A wide variety of Desi Indian mithai and a number of innovative western desserts as well. This is a branch Kolkata's most popular sweetshop now in Bangalore and I already visited this a zillion times! Go for it blindly for there amazing snacks, chole bhature, chaats and obviously the sweets!

Good collection of sweets and namkeens. Excellent staff and they are very friendly. We ordered samosa chat, samosa pav and pav bhaji. They were very tasty. Cleanliness can be better and some display areas needs great attention. Parking is not there and need to park cars on the side roads. Tasty sweets.

Excellent place, quite light on the pocket. Delicious and authentic Rajasthani and Punjabi food. Space for barely 10 people, so plan accordingly or choose take-away. Chhole-Bhature, Alu Tamatar sabzi, samosa Chaat and Alu-Pyaz Kachori were all good. Jalebis are fresh and good.
