I was planning to go here since ages. Today evening, I was their first customer and the place looked so calm and serene. They had put on Cricket match and I picked a spot where I could see hustle bustle of Jeevan Bima Nagar. Ordered deep fried squid, Meen Curry, Appam and Parotta. Everything was so so delicious, but I especially loved Squid. It was not overdone, and was chewy enough. That preparation had base of finely chopped onions, tomatoes and ginger with the hint of Pepper and it was lovely. They serve you warm Jeera water instead of regular water, which doesn't let you overeat and helps with digestion too. Utensils used were squeaky clean and the boys waiting the tables were fresh and pleasant. They did not have that stale look that most of the guys waiting the tables have and I liked this bit. Washbasin area was clean as well, equipped with handwash and tissues.
Loved this whole experience. Will visit again for sure.
Other things that I tried (and were equally delicious) are Mathi Fry and Chemmeen Roast. Chemmeen Roast is Prawns prepared in thick solid gravy of Onions and Tomatoes. It's little bit on the saltier side, so you might want to go easy on that bit.

At last I found one Best place for Kerala food ..we had Kerala parota, appam n chicken kurma, it was too good. Friendly staff, ambience is ok (average).
One of the decent Kerala restaurants in Bangalore. The food is good and the service is friendly. Would definitely visit again. Must try their fish fry and puttu.
The beef curry meals is what brings me back to Kayaal every time . Waiting time for the food is more coz of the very few waiters in the restaurant. Average ambience.
The best Veg Oonu I ever had in Bangalore. All Chef vedikattu's are great. Must try for everyone who loves Kerala food. We normally order through Swiggy but have been to the restaurant which is clean and spacious.
I love the veg meals, I keep going der for this and during the special occasions Sadya served is really good and you get a really authentic Kerala cuisine here. Staff is pretty friendly over here. A good place to go back anytime.
Ambience is not that great. It would look like an ordinary mess. However the dishes are truely authentic Kerala style. I just like pretty much everything I've ordered from here.
Authentic Kerala food place. Good experience. Friendly service. Complimentary chukku kaapi and butter milk shots for everyone (might need to ask sometimes)
Really good gesture i felt from the delivery man
he greeted with smile😍😍😍😍
PROS : *Kayaal has been one of the best restaurant which serves authentic Kerala cuisines. Appam and porotta, both were freshly cooked and served in a casserole. Good ambience with old Malayalam songs to make you feel home.
CONS : This happened with us twice. Please recheck your bill before paying as they have a bad habit of over charging. Once we were charged for 6 lime sodas. :(
Although I have never been there, I have ordered food from here a few times and the quality of food is pretty good. The meals they serve along with the curry of your choice is of good quality and at reasonable price. On swiggy all they charge is 10Rs extra on the bill for delivery and no packaging charges.
Ordered Kerala meals for home delivery via swiggy. Usually all the restaurants sends the curries in small plastic covers which is not really convenient. This is the first time I got a well packed meals in a plastic plate with a lid, with different sections to separate each curry. The meal was tasty and fresh. The only negative us that the quantity of rice is a but less as the section for rice is smaller than required.
Really good Kerala food, took me back to Kerala. The meals are amazing and value for money Ordered 3 unlimited meals and bill was less than 500
Loved the food. And the places is also clean. They are pretty reasonable. Definitely recommended for Kerala dishes, especially their meals..
Kaayal is an authentic Kerala cuisine restaurant. They have a very good Pot Biriyani which is amazing. The regular kerala meal is too good. They have good varieties in the meal and vegetables that change everyday. The quality of fish they use is very good. Anytime, the fish is fresh and tasty. Good thing is that they are open throughout the day from morning till evening on weekends, breakfast, lunch and dinner! The Malayalam music in the background is soothing. Ambience is pleasant. Extremely helpful and courteous staff. They do out-door catering too for small/big functions. They have valet parking.
One of the best Kerala restaurants that I've had food at. Food has variety, price is affordable. Both Veg and Non Veg food lovers can enjoy. The restaurant also welcome you with hot Jeera water and Rasam in the evening and Juice in the afternoon. Must visit in Bangalore.
Value for money: 4⭐

A chilled out place for Kerala cuisine lunch. It is hard to find and is located on the first floor.
Kaayal , from the name itself reflecting its a mallu restaurant. I tried last wednesday lunch from Kaayal. It is located in jeevan Bhima nagar. Parking is issue , if u r coming with two wheeler you can manage. Talking about ambience , they playing Malayalam music and seating also good. Food prices in menu are lil pricy. I gone for mini meals that costs 70 rs , that is reasonable pricing. Overall i felt lil pricy. Food was good. Didn't find that much sea food dishes in the menu as the restaurant name suggests.
The ambience of Kerala is decently created (with the traditional lamp and all), courteous staff, average food.
Overall, a decent place to go to if you are looking for Kerala food, and good food at reasonable prices for non-Keralites. Nothing specifically great.

Kayal the realitic Kerala cusion, it's located in upstairs, there is no 🅿 facility, really I like to have fish curry, chemmen fry, appam, puttu, karimeen absolutely yummy, next time will try to our own Kerala tripical meal.
An apt place for authentic, homely Kerala cuisine. The food is reasonably tasty although some of the dishes can improve in flavor. The staff is pleasant and friendly and the service prompt. An area for improvement - put some more kick into dishes esp the Biriyani. And also experiment with the menu a bit more. Would definitely go back there if I get a chance.
Good food! Good Ambience! I love the starter juice they always provide. The food is not that cheap here, still worth for your money!
Good to go if you love Kerala cuisine!
The location of the restaurant is not that great as there is a problem for parking and also the staircase is very steep as the restaurant is in 2nd floor of the building. However, we like the fish fry/curry and appams so we go there quite often. But, the prices are also little on the higher side. Otherwise a ok place to dine-in with children
Loved the Kerala food here. You must try the pepper chicken here, it's awesome. Good ambience, and very good service. Will be visiting again.
They are my all time favourite. They are extremely good at service and they pamper me with inju puli whenever I ask for it. Blown away. It's always made me happy.
Simple and homely restaurant with good flavour of food. Have been there couple of times and really liked the chicken stew with Appam and beef fry. The serving is quite fast and the staff is very courteous towards the customers. Pricing is unbelievably low for this taste and quantity of food. Any premium mallu restaurant would charge twice this price for half its taste and quantity.
I would definitely recommend friends to go and try this place.
When it comes to dining out , I tend to go for nicer environment. But my friend took me here to try local Kerala food so here we come. The dishes are very very yummy and services was excellent. Ok it doesn't have the fine dining decor but who cares with nice food and nice services. It's a very clean restaurant which I appreciate. The only thing is the fried beef wasn't our taste and they kindly deducted the dish from our bill after we told them. I will strongly recommend anyone to try!!
Good Kerala food at a slight premium. Enjoyed the beef dishes they have. Tried it with Ari pathiri which was good. Sometimes they surprise you with some complimentary beverages like rasam and sambharam. Tea here brings nostalgia of the tea shops in Kerala.
A must visit for Malabar food lovers. The restaurant is a non nonsense affair with extremely courteous staff. We ordered Appam and chicken stew. Which was amazing. We also ordered Vedikettu Biryani, a biryani cooked in a pot. The flavours were subtle and delicious. I would most d definitely visit again.

We visited Kaayal on the auspicious occasion of Onam to try their Onam Sadya.
The Sadya was good and being priced at RS 400/- was decent compared to many others. Just that they needed to manage a bit better.
Great place for Kerala cuisine, breakfast dishes are awesome. Service time and the way they treat customers is really nice. If you are longing for that good food and at a cheap price this is a really good option. Appam & Kerala parantha you cannot miss here.
This discreet flight of stairs which takes you to a very cozy kerala food joint, is not easy to find. The poster us in blue, and while crossing this place umpteen number of times, I reminded myself, we need to be here.
Last saturday, we finally made it. in fact on reaching I was surprised at the simple yet homely place. The elderly gentleman supervising the place explained us the menu, wherever we needed some help.
We ordered for kappa and meen curry (absolute mallu favourites) and appam and kozhi curry (meen is fish and kozhi is chicken) . Taste wise - good. Ambience wise - good too
The beef pollichathu I had was one of the best in and around here. The neymeen (seer fish) curry was simple and authentic. Nothing too flashy. Appams were the only let down, the edges lacked the crispiness which makes them so delicious. Service is decent and items are priced slightly on the higher side.
Had vegetarian meals here for about a week , looks good and tasty! Keep the good work going Kaayal! A place to visit for Malayalis for sure!
As some of the reviewers have pointed out, finding a vegetarian fare in a Kerala style restaurant is a challenge and Kaayal manages to hit the right note in this aspect. Their vegetarian meal has been consistently good, but I particularly remember the Sadhya meal I had during one of the festivals, a while ago.
The sadhya meal is generally served on a banana leaf, you can ask for it to be served on a plate or a leaf over the plate. The payasam made with jaggery was brilliant. The veggies cooked in Coconut gravy called Aviyal is my all time favourite. More (curd in Malayalam) curry is another favourite of mine, it is served with the regular daily meal as well. Its a warm curd curry cooked with veggies. Be sure to eat the meal with their traditional boiled rice. If you are particular, you can ask for the regular white rice too. The sambhar, vegetable sabji, papad with the meal is usual, but banana chips was served with the sadhya meal.
The spicy, gingery buttermilk is another thing I don't miss gulping down after the meal here.
The ambience is regular, but I must point out, everything is neat and well maintained. A Kerala style meal without additional sides would cost you less than 300 rupees. Kaayal is a reliable, Kerala style vegetarian meal option for me, I'd say.
Simple and neat! Being a Malayali vegetarian is truly a challenge. This restaurant gave me quite a good option of veg food in the authentic Kerala style. Aapam was good, veg stew was normal. Would try it next time for sure but would love to see more Malayali delicacies on the board.
Hi all, it is a nice hotel with a best waiters. good service friendly people where around us great jobs. Keep going god bless you anyways nice hotel
Restaurant is very clean, very calm place to relax, staff are friendly, we ordered for Kappa Biryani, Parota fish curry and meals it was very tasty, I heard people saying its very costly but I dont think so, they have option of mini meals for regular eater, regular items are not high priced, I recommend this place to others

I rate this restaurant mainly for its kappa biriyani and beef roast. I had never tasted kappa biriyani before and it was a great experience. It is mixed with beef and tastes lovely. Rest of the stuff is pretty average.
Used to love this place for the excellent Kerala dishes .. Especially... Neymeen fry and Kerala chicken biriyani... Used to be here every weekend... Now it been some time I been here and people say it lost its charm... Still got a lot of fond memories of this place... Maybe will visit again soon to give a review which is more at par with times...

This place serves good Kerala food for very affordable price. I would recommend it for the meal options. The sear fish was also good - nice, spicy, fresh and tender. With - Abhishek Modak
Very good sea food and biriyani served here.
love their homely ambiance and music.
kappa biriyani is the best! On sundays they have special Kerala sadhya which is served in banana leaf its very very tasty!
I visited this place with a couple of friends who are frequent to this place.
Ambience: Its a simple, no frills palce with Kerala knick knacks like the Kathakali Masks and posters adorning the walls. Its not really a high end place and the decor is simple and clean.
Food: We ordered appams, beef curry, and Iddiappams. The Appams were served it a hot pot and hence they stayed warm and soft till the end of the meal. The beef Curry was nice and moderately spiced and it had a faint coconut oil flavor. I actually loved the appams, soft and lacy, really good. The buttermilk was good, however I would have liked it more if it had a little less ginger.
Service: Not very fast. Had to remind a couple of times for a second helping of appams. So, if you visit during peak lunch hours, due to the crowd you might have to remind them a couple of times more.
All in all, I liked the place and would recommend too...
I liked it.!! Appam and prawn gravy is my favorite. Tasty!!!! Must visit if u need special Kerala dishes.. I couldn't stop visiting again. :)
This is an Kerala style restaurant which is situated in the Jeevanbheema Nagar area. It was never in my list of bookmarks but suddenly caught the attention of some hungry Sadhya fans on the Onam day. Well, we were on the look for some go restaurant in and around EGL area. One my teammate a Mallu, suggested this place as the place served some good Mallu food. And on the day of festival, it is mostly Veg food at most of the hotels serving Kerala Food.
Location
If you are coming from the Domlur flyover, you need to drive along until you see the New Horizon school. Take a right and proceed to the Jeevanbheema Nagar. Cross one of the major road that has Empire, NH8 and other place to proceed to further ahead. This restaurant will appear to the right side. You need to be careful not to miss it as it is on the 1st floor and has a blue board.
First Look
It’s a pretty decent place, not a fancy one. But will be filled with people looking to eat the Kerala Food. And the person had set it up such a way that all the preparation for the festival was put on the center table spread. The people serving it were taking the items from center table and serving at individual tables.
The restroom and the wash areas were quite clean and for sure well maintained.
One things was quite noticeable was that there were many folks dressed up in traditional Kerala outfits like gals with Kasav Sarees, guys with lungis. It was a great sight on the festive day to be there.
Food
It is important that the Sadhya food has some varities like the Payasam, Subji(s), Avial, Banana Chips, Banana, Boiled Raw Banana, Sambar, Rasam, Kadi Sambar, Buttermilk.
Let me share experience on the food that was served with my thoughts on few of the subjis that were served as well.
Starters
I would put the items like the Banana Chips and the Jaggery coated chips in this category. These are typically served for the Sadhya food and it was pretty good.
Payasam
There was this Jaggery based payasam and one sugar based I think. Both of them were served in small cups. They were both pretty good and I enjoyed the flavors.
Aviyal
This is a specialty of Kerala food where in they make coconut gravy and mix it with veggies. The taste is simply amazing. It was pretty good at this place.
Red Rice + Sambar + Rasam
On the day of Onam it is best to try the Red Rice instead of the white rice. It is quite heavy and does not get digested easily.
Sambar was pretty well done with good veggies in it and quite thick as well.
Rasam also pretty decent and I thought they had put good amount of tamarind and tomato in it to make it taste good.
Subjis
There were different types of subjis that were served to us which included the – Cabbage subji, Pine-apple Pachdi, Thoran. All the subjis were pretty decent. May be I would have expected to eat with roti but they go along well with the rice as well.
There were few more items which is really hard to recollect, instead you can get more info on the Sadhya food on the wiki page.
I also need to say that the food was all served on plantain leaf. And guess what they served small bisleri water bottles to all of us. The meals seemed like I had come ot attend gone to attend a wedding.
I gotto to say that crowd was like too much that day. Infact, we made a call to make an enquiry about Sadhya. The person only told the timing info. But then when we enter there, there were loads of people at reception. Everyone wanted to eat Sadhya on the Onam day. Then we had to wait for nearly 10-15 mts, take coupon and then go seat after 5 more mts before we could finally start eating.
But all that said, the food was decent, ventitation was quite poor as the place does not have A/C.
Overall my rating would be at around 3.5/5. There are surely things that can improve especially in terms of Ventilation and Seating arrangements. The place looked cramped for space and air.
Rating in other departments would be –
Food – 3.5/5
Service – 3.5/5
Ambiance – 3.5/5
Drinks – 3.5/5
VFM – 3.25/5
The price on the day of Onam was Sadhya was INR400 which isn’t cheap actually ☺
