An unplanned lunch exploring HSR led us to Gustum. And were we pleasantly surprised :)
The place is on the 4th floor of the building with access via elevator as well as stairs..the entrance is slightly dominated by a massive Theobroma at the ground floor.
With the layout split into two floors in a a very open floor plan, you can choose to sit closer to the edge overseeing the road or the mezzanine floor of sorts above which is slightly more tucked away.
Food was really good. We initially weren't sure what we want to order so went with a started and a mini Sadhya. The menu is a good mix Indian delicacies. Not a very long menu to confuse you 😀
Post the order, we were given a basket of papdam while we waiter. This was mix of two full roasted masala papad , broken into halves, accompanied with small fried papads. There were a dozen fried curry leaves as well to elevate the taste. Served with a beetroot chutney, a tamarind chutney and some mayo type of creamy thing, it was quickly an empty basket..
The starter was called a Sikkimise Spicy Chicken Wings. Not very oily, and with 5 to 6 pcs, it was quite tasty. Spice level is a bit subjective so cant say much about it being less or too spicy. The way I look it, we didnt have to drink water to pacify the heat. The presentation was really good coming on a banana leaf.
The Sadhya was really awesome. Dals Sambhar both had a very homely taste and all the accompanying vegetables were reminding of sadhya from a friend's place. The rice was similar to a fresh harvest red matta rice we had last Onam at our community event which was brought from a resident's farms in Kerala. Very tasty indeed.
We had to rush at the end for some work so couldn't try the payasam but am sure it would have been equally amazing.
We are definitely coming back and hope other will also njoy this amazing place and recommend more of what they liked

Exceptional experience at Gustum!
Embarked on a culinary adventure through Google Maps and discovered Gustum – a gastronomic gem!
Our journey commenced with a delightful surprise – a complimentary Papadam basket accompanied by an array of flavorful chutneys – an inviting prelude to the feast.
A symphony of flavors awaited in the form of a delectable soup, reminiscent of the South Indian delicacy, Sodhi, crafted with rich coconut milk – an exquisite start to our culinary voyage.
The starters, Vazhapoo Kilangu Cutlet and Hyderabadi Chicken Samosey, were a harmonious blend of innovation and tradition. The simplicity of the Samosey belied their delightful taste.
Venturing into the main course, we savored the classics – Kerala Parotta, Ghee Rice, Pot-Egg Roast, and Malabar Veg Kuruma.
The Parottas were a timeless delight, while the Ghee Rice, laden with ghee and nuts, offered a luxurious yet indulgent experience.
The Pot Egg Roast, with its simplicity and elegance, complemented both the Parottas and Ghee Rice flawlessly. The Malabar Veg Kuruma, a culinary masterpiece, proved to be a delightful challenge to finish – a testament to its generous portion size.
Gustum's ambiance is full of greenery, creating a tranquil rooftop haven. Ideal for family gatherings, friendly rendezvous, or intimate dates.
While the cost may lean towards the higher side, the culinary journey at Gustum is an investment in unparalleled flavors and a unique dining atmosphere. Highly recommend this culinary haven for at least one unforgettable experience.
Nice place, good food, ambience, & service. I must say thanks to the guy who was there, Mr.Joyce. he helped us in ordering the food and was very polite with us.
Must try Rawa fried Prawns
Mango mixed fish curry
GUSTUM has Kerala cuisine mostly. The railway mutton Shanky curry was good. The ambience and service were good. Nothing too extraordinary, but overall the experience was good.
A comfortable and affordable place to enjoy classic cuisine from Kerala. Quick and prompt service. Usually not much crowded.
Just Wow!
We ordered Kerala Vegetarian Relishing Platter (enough for 2 people)
The taste and presentation of all the dishes were great. TBH, I didn't expect it to be that good but I was blown away by the quality and presentation.
Highly recommended!
A great place for great food. Gustum stands out from any other kerala restaurants. The quantities are very generous. Kerala porattas are a must have. And on top of this they have great team to ensure you a good dining experience.
The order might take some good time to be delivered as they prepare things once you order. But they are always generous enough to give some free papads to enjoy during the wait time. This kitchen usually closes after the last order is placed for Lunch and then opens up in the evening. Make sure to confirm once if you are going in the break time.
Gustum has a very nice ambience if you like a laid back atmosphere. The place is tastefully done with outdoor seating and plenty of natural light The staff is very friendly.
Though the presentation of the food is good, the taste is a generally a hit or miss. The masala breaded fish were wafer thin, very dry and had more bread than fish. The Goan style chicken thighs were quiet tasty. The phulkas were a little dry. The beef roast and egg roast were quite good but the spices were too coarsely ground for my taste and had an overload of curry leaves. The prawn biryani was good but loaded with curry leaves - give it a try if you like Kerala style biryani. The payasam was excellent.
On the whole, I found the place a little expensive for the taste. I wished the food was as as good as the presentation.
The staff was courteous and the ambience was really nice. I especially liked the portion size and the chef's special dishes! :)
I genuinely love the place and food. Service is really good. No matter how crowded the place is, you will be attended very politely.
Went with my family for lunch. We had a full filling lunch after a long time. Fresh fish and sea food quality was a stand out. Must go place if you are looking for good quality Kerala food. Food suggestions - squid rava fry, fish polichathu, erachi roast and kallappam.
Each item had a distinct flavour, very well orchestrated Dishes and presentation, was a pleasure interacting with the owner, he explained each items its origin and how is it combined, overall the best Kerala Cuisine you can experience in bangalore, Hats off to the Chef and the Front of the house as well
Excellent food, different dishes ,
A must visit.
Food quality and taste is excellent.
Service also very good.
Ambience is exceptional compared to other hotels.
Beautiful overall
A must visit
A decent place where you can get some satisfaction for the food that you eat. It’s a place where you will feel like visiting again. Decent ambience. The service is a little slow, but when those taste buds get excited with the food served, then we felt the wait was worth it. Chapatis, kalle appam, kerala porotta, veg stew, pappdam, rava fried squid, spare ribs bbq pork, kuttanadan pothu roast, we could keep having…
If you are in hsr, you should visit the place. You will not regret it. Hope you will feel the same. 😋
Had been to this wonderful place today for lunch. We reached late and they were about to close , But even then they were ready to serve us and service given to us was Exceptional to a level which we can't even see in 5 star hotels. They helped us decide on quantity of our order and type of dishes based on our taste choice. Food quality and quantity was great with the right flavors. The guys there served food with great care and was very friendly to us. Will definitely visit again. Highly Recommended.
Cuisine Tried: Kerala
Food : Great
Ambience: Great
Service: Exceptional
Price: Budget friendly for the food and service they provide.
Just by pass all other restaurants and head to GUSTUM if you are craving for food from the backwaters, love the fish curry, the restaurant is upscale and cozy, the buttermilk was perfectly spiced.
Should you like Kerala-style…it should be GUSTUM…. 😊
Just one minus(not about the food)…. Pls have the elevator working asap, it was a hassle for my mom to take the stairs to floor 4
One of the best restaurant I visited in recent times. 5 stars especially for the service, the service was nothing less than a premium hotel. We reached late around 3 in the afternoon but still the team served us even though they were closing for some renovation. Food taste and portion was really great. Loved the breaded fish, beef roast. Meals and Parotta was also good. Payasam was very very tasty. Overall must try!!!
Visited on New Year Evening for a family dinner. The relatively new restaurant in Bangalore. It has an excellent decor and ambience - also follow the COVID SOPs to ensure the guest safety. Proper lighting and soothing music adding the extra flavour of amazing atmosphere with the appropriate placements of plants/small trees. The menu is very unique - specialized in Kerala cuisine. It taste absolutely great and authentic. Due to COVID-19, the guests can scan the QR code and have the menu on their phone to order. The menu is explained in details and minimum time for cooking is also mentioned. Even Gustum was offering some special menu list on the table for the festive days. Still the Chef Sanjay came forward to greet us and helped for placing the order.
We ordered Kozhi Kondattam, Masala Breaded Fish Minute Fillet, Sikkimese Spiced Chicken Wings from the starters (Nibbles/Tidbits); and Travancore Spice Rubbed Half Spring Chicken, Mutton Shank Railway Curry, Kerala Parotta, Kall Appam for the main course. Great service - they offered us complimentary Papad and Mocktail drink. All are nice and we enjoyed a lot. The taste and presentation/appearance of the dishes are the real showcase of culinary extravaganza and passions, efforts of the Chef Sanjay and the Team. Sumit and other team member's smiling faces make the guests more comfortable. You definitely need to try this place with friends and family; a must visit place !!
Note : As the restaurant is on the main road itself but on 3rd floor, you have to plan & manage your vehicle parking.
We tried some prawns, fish curry with mango, rice, appam, and panacota for dessert. Ginger lemon cooler is a must try, we had 2 glasses of that 😋. All of the dishes were very different, and delicious. The service was a bit delayed as it was nearing closing time, but staffs were very polite.
Surely recommend this place, we’ll visit again!
