This sweet shop is closest to our place so we usually visit here. This time I had kalakand of New Doaba Sweets & Rasoi,it was awesome and I loved it.
It was fresh and the sweetness is perfectđđ
It's one of the pocket-friendly restaurants (when you have offers đ) with great food.
Thail is the most recommended here. Quantity, taste, they have it all.
The packaging is fine.
It is first time that I have ordered snacks from New Doaba Sweets & Rasoi.
Chana Samosa were delicious.
Best ones so far I have eaten.
Chana's tasty and yummy.
Please keep up your quality.
Its a pocket friendly place with delicious food. I have been here with friends alot of times. The service is good and friendly. Must try gol gappe and samosa with chana.
Great Taste i ordered jalebi and its crispy and hot.. I enjoy it lot, in hurry to eat it hot i forget to take the picture so sorry for that.
Good paranthas and lassi. The mooli ones were the best. Better than nagpals. Clean sitting area. Nagpals was dirty and dark. Unfit for any meals.
Went for lunch here. The ambience is nothing to talk about but the place is very neat and clean. The best part of this restaurant is the genuine and affordable price.
We ordered Rajma, raita and roti and puri channa. The Rajma was utterly delicious, raita was good as well. The tandoori butter roti was the best, so soft and well cooked. Puri channa was average although channa were good but puri was little bit thick and could have been better.
Service is excellent and very fast. If you are looking for simple indian food, then this is the place for you. Visit with your family and it doesn't really puts burden on your pocket.
Because of the wonderful weather had craving for something so wentvto this place and asked for some jalebi
Amazing jalebi i had here
Must try
Nice clean restaurant recommended for breakfast. Their puri subzi which in many ways resembles chole bhature is amazing. Though oily, but who cares when u are in chandigarh. Another plus point is that the outlet opens early.
This 4.0 rating is given only to the Chaat bhalla and chaat papdi. Must have chaat in town ...
3.8 to their Imarti (a sweet dish like jalebi)
Rest of their sweets are below average.
Still the best place for golgappas in the tricity.. I don't know what the fuss is about sector 23 golgappas..these people serve the best and one of the only ones to serve suji golgappas in the tricity
One of the oldest and most famous joints
New Doaba Sweets and Rasoi - a name with every chandigarhiia will relate to and have childhood memories.
I 've been visiting this place when the name was - "Doaba Sweets", was famous for their delicious combination of "Samosa" and "Jalebies" and the Samosa used to cost 1 re per pc.
They have consistently maintained their taste and qualities through all these years, new additions to the menu have lead to more foot steps and the authentic Doaba taste is still there.
Worth trying - Samosa, Jalebi, Naan with gravy, Dal makhni, Aloo paranthas, paneer paranthas, Goll gaappa and aloo tiki.
Taste 4/5
Ambience 3/5
Service 4/5
For me, Doaba sweets is nothing but a stop for eating hot halwas (in winters) and Jalebis (all seasons) while sitting in the car. It was only recently that I came to know about its restaurant at the upper floor.
Although the restaurant is in operation since an year or more, yet I was always interested in its sweets of all varieties. Whenever I am craving for hot and juicy jalebis, I know about only one place to go, since I am not really fond of crispy thin jalebis served at rest of the places. Although sometimes the proportion of baking soda is so high that it can result in bad health afterwards.
The place also serves hot dal halwa and gajar halwa in winters, the dal halwa is not purely dal halwa but has more sooji in it, giving it a smooth soft texture. While the gajar halwa is nicely cooked with no traces of water in it.
Their cold sweets like rasmalai, sponge rasgulla and small rasgulla are not upto the mark since it is pretty clear from the hardness and tardiness that these sweets are stale and hardly served fresh.
Although most of the people turn up to this place for live pao bhaji and golgappe, but since I am more fond of sweets I always end up eating the sweet delights.
Now coming to the restaurant, which is a compact room with one and a half row of tables, is impeccably clean. Even the servers are roaming around wearing disposable white caps. The food is just like the food served at any dhaba, however the spices are not used in control and most of the dishes have a high content of everything from salt to other ground spices. For instance, when I took the first bite of paneer bhurji, I could taste black pepper, red pepper and even chopped green chillies all at once. One might get pertubed by having a green chilli in the very first bite, however the chillies only add flavour and does not cause a burning sensation. Among the varieties of dals, dal makhni should be chosen only if you are ready for loads of butter and salty flavour.
The quantity of dishes is quite sufficient, in fact the size of bowls are deceivingly small. The service is pretty quick, the servers don't delay in getting your next round of chapatis no matter if the restaurant is full of customers.
You can end up your meal with paan, which is a unique thing served right there, and also quite sweet and mushy.
The place is popular among PGs and bachelors who don't cook at home, since they provide nice platters at nominal charges. Also, a good option for golgappe lovers.
Living in the vicinity, I've been visiting this sweets shop since the past 15 years and have watched it grow over the years. They've expanded from a mere sweets shop to one serving a variety of meals and snacks (Indian and Chinese).
As for the sweets, their Besan Barfi, Rasmalai, Chhena Murgi and Badana (only on Tuesday) are definitely worth a try.
The Paneer Pakodas (two pieces of Paneer with a spicy pudina chutney in the middle and sprinkled with some sort of chat masala mixture), the Aloo Tikki (stuffed with white chanas and topped with sweet and spicy chutneys and curd) are personal favourites.
However the quality of their products has gone down in the recent past. But if you're passing by, do stop and try the abovementioned foods. You wouldn't be disappointed. :-)
Location is good price is economical. Taste is ok not extraordinary just ok. Lassi is good but thin. You cant say its extraordinary shop but sa compare to price its good
I just go here for their malai kofta :')
Rest: whatever i have ever had has always disappointed me. Although the rasmallai is quite nice. !
Having lived in the same area as this shop till date(ca 35 years), I have seen them grow from a small sweet shop in the corner to what they are today.
Most food they serve is OK.
Pros:
Excellent samosa-jalebi and Badana/chhaina murga (the latter only on tuesdays). Clean. Does NOT stink. OKOK Golgappa/Tikki/papri Chaat. OKOK sweets.
Cons:Â
Pricing of the so called restaurant is downright outrageous. Not as clean as the sweet shop. Boring décor upstairs. good food, but at an unacceptable price.
The sweets:Â
so-so, the cream kalakand is extremely nice.
The Samosa-jalebis:
Unbeatable by anyone in the city at any price point. Always steaming hot, the Samosas at Doaba sweets are impeccable and awesome! Tasty! The jalebi might need an instruction to be browned to perfection and crispy but is still awesome. One of the few places in the city where one can eat a samosa that is cooked perfectly! The pakora are okay-ish, as nice as refried food can be.
Golgappas, et al:
These are just passable. the tikki is so-so, not great.
Food at the restaurant upstairs:
Even though it has been made to look like a small restaurant, Doaba sweets still retains the staff and the character of a dhaba, but with restaurant-style pricing. They still have a looooong way to go before they can match other restaurants in their league. I think they are best off as a dhaba and a sweet shop. To each his own, I guess, right? The food is tasty, well cooked but cannot match the finesse of restaurant cooked food and is way out of the dhaba price league, so they are kind of in the "lose your customers because of bad pricing" league.
The owner is kind of good to talk to, if he talks to you at all(the original owner always had a beaming smile but his children seem to have a smug look most of the time)The billing process is a bit awkward but still, whatever they might like!
Verdict: Excellent for snacks. They sometimes have a milk stand outside in the winter that serves amazing piping hot badam milk! Recommended.
Winters are fading and not many days are left to enjoy hot samosas, jalebi, and aloo tikkis. Thatâs typical me, always on the hunt to satisfy my taste buds with deep fried basic Indian snacks. But I canât help it; ask weather, it is the culprit. Doabaâs aloo tikka and channa samosas are delicious. They do serve a lot of other things as well but the stuff I mentioned is simply great. I love their mithai too but I can still live without that but not fried snacks. If you have a sweet tooth, try their gazerella. I bet you would have two servings of that unless you are too worried about your diet contents. The place is always busy. They sell other general stuff as well like freshly prepared paneer, and dahi etc. The dĂ©cor inside has nothing to mention about. As simple as any ordinary restaurant should be. The place is clean though from hygiene point of view. The prices are reasonable and the service is ordinary. Definitely worth recommending and broadcasting.
Whenever a little rain brings out good weatherâŠ
For a fried Indian food feast we all gatherâŠ
We run towards Doaba SweetsâŠ
Entices us more with fried food when it greetsâŠ
It has become with us friends a norm to quickly gather when it rains and look for feasting out on fried food. We have always loved Doaba sweets for its tasty snack section on the menu. I have neither tried their other stuff listed under the lunch & dinner section nor have I ever been fascinated by them. Buy yes, the snack section has all fried items and they are yum-yum. Their gol-gappas are a hit and once you have them, you will rave about them for long. Samosa, tikki, and chaat, are utterly delicious, recommend them anytime and a must-must try.
The restaurant is generally busy all day. They have a strong clientele which you will observe when you find a queue there for gol-gappas and if you plan to visit this place in coming days, do go after 4-PM, thatâs the time when they start serving gol-gappas. The hygiene part cannot be overlooked and I have to put a remark here that from holistic point-of-view the restaurant is not as clean as one would love it to be. But yes nothing severely bad with it either and the gol-gappa & chaat section is clean. I love how the server hands everybody the small bowls and make them stand in a kind of semi-circle around him. Then he picks up a gol-gappa from the shelf, dip it in the sweet-spicy water and serve it in round-robin fashion to all the guests surrounding him. He repeats the process at least 5 times and then eventually gives everybody the same spicy-water to drink that he puts in gol-gappa. Love his efficiency, skill and passion to do all that so calmly.
Apart from gol-gappas, samosa and chaat are really scrumptious as well. There is generally nothing to complain about. The spice level is good in each item and ingredients seem clean and fresh always.
So in all â I love to visit them again and again. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are that golgappa gourmand kinds.
I bought samosa from new Doaba sweet. It taste or new Doaba sweet upgrade his menu or restaurant or sweet shop. New Doaba has two floor. On ground you buy cake, pastry, samosa, biscuits, cold drink, so many sweet items they have. Now new interior look is look very nice . On second floor they run restaurant in which you eat Indian, south Indian etc
Offers best foods and sweets . Golgappe and samosas are just awesome here . Two floors are here . First floor as a sweet shop and Second floor as a restaurant. Competitive environment can be felt here as it's just beside a very famous bakery and patties shop by the name ' New Capital Bakery'
My favourite spot whenever i am near sector 22 to have chaat and golgappe
the name of this eatery accounts for sweet shop and bakery, still, it offers North Indian , Street Food and Chinese cuisine, all under one roof. Accordingly, not only one can enjoy a one time meal but also some delightful desserts and mithai after that meal. Amongst it's dilated menu the best served dishes are Chana Bhatura, Tikki Samosa Chana, Spongy Rasgulla and Rasmalai
Tasty food.
Reasonable price.
Limited food items
Four stars for Modakđ very tasty and fresh.
Good place to have North Indian snacks and sweets
You can find a wide variety of sweets here, not just sweets but also other fast food items. The prices are alright and the food is good... What else do you need?
It's a good restaurant with decent taste. I tried Pav bhaji, noodles and Plain rasmalai.
One thing I didn't liked that they won't allow you to eat snacks in. We have to sit on benches outside the restaurant. Prices are ok not too high not that low. Try it!
The place is nice and fancy
Food was good
Lighting was very nice
It's one of the pocket-friendly restaurants (when you have offers đ) with great food.
Thail is the most recommended here. Quantity, taste, they have it all.
