Since it is purataasi, me and my friends decided to go to a veg restaurant and we visited vrindhavan on a Sunday and I didn't even expect that there would be craze for vegetarian, was amazed to see the crowd. One of the best veg.thali I've ever had❤️
😋Maharaja thali - It is a combination of North Indian and south Indian thali and tasted marvelous💯
Panner tikka masala - The Paneer was juicy and tender, loved it to the core❤️
American chopsuey - combination of fried noodles and gravy. Tasted yummy😍
Visited Vrindavan on a holiday. It was crowded and the first vibes we got from this place was positive. Compact place with flashy, vintage interiors.
We ordered South Indian meals, Burmese Spaghetti, golden fried baby corn, vegetable sheekh kebab, veg fried rice, butter roti, paneer tikka masala and spicy corn cheese nachos.
Burmese spaghetti was sautéed with cream cheese and served with veg curry. It was delicious. Paneer tikka masala was tasty with the paneer being soft and juicy. Roti was too hard. Fried rice was pleasant. Golden fried baby corn was batter fried baby corn fritters with a bland taste. The thali had usual components and tasted South Indian , nothing special and nothing to complain. The two best dishes of our order were Spicy corn cheese nachos and veg sheekh kebab. Kebab was damn hot and tasty and the green chutney served with it was lip smacking. The nachos were served with a creamy corn based gravy and topped with grated cheese. The gravy was heavenly and served as a dip.
They serve less spicy food so spice monsters like me might feel off but they do make up for it by adding perfect amounts of salt, cream, butter and other spices.
The food was top notch with very good quality and service. The prices are on the expensive side for a vegetarian restaurant. Paid ₹1710 in all.
good place for south Indian foods, we went for breakfast and was very happy with the Idly and sambhar. Vada could have been crispier but the accompanying chutneys were tasty. Pongal was good. Coffee is fantastic. Parking is a breeze. must visit place if you are in the area.
Toooooooo crowded on weekends.
But their food is worth the wait.
Their french onion soup is drool worthy.
Loved the mushroom augratin..
The jigarthanda was average.
The place was one hell of an experience, ambience was fine but the pantings mesmerised me and the food was delicious. Platters were awesome with great taste.
ICON OF OLD MADRAS
I happened to visit this place after a very long time with my family for dinner. It is situated very close to semmozhi poonga. They have ample parking space and banquet halls attached. Entering into it brought me back some nostalgic feel of our very own city MADRAS. Was quite skeptical as I was not sure how the standard was still. This Vrindavan is a multi cuisine restaurant serving both north indian, chinese and south delicacies and hence we chose this place. Wonderful interiors, Gets crowded easily. I must say the standard is still maintained. The taste was really good. Dosa is something out of the world and a specialty must try here. However, I was disappointed with Poori. Never expected such a big and thick one. Otherwise, all other menu that we had ordered did taste really good. One of the decent and iconic restaurants for a family gathering. Rating- 3.5
Went to Vrindavan restaurant for a Sunday lunch with family and oh boy this place is really famous amongst the masses. Didn't expect so many people considering it's an old restaurant but I was wrong. Had to wait for 10-15 minutes but the wait was worth it. Delicious food, quick service and courteous staff. What else does one asks for? We ordered 1 north Indian thali, 2 South Indian thali and a Maharaja thali. The quantity of the food was appropriate - not too much that one finds it difficult to finish and not too less that one is still hungry. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to have some lip smacking food.
Visited this place cos it was nearby, after watching a drama at Narada Gana Sabha. We were quite late, entered around 10 pm.
We settled for some rotis, paneer subzi, dal and fried rice (Jain). The food was heavenly. All the dishes were piping hot and cooked to perfection. Very polite and courteous staff. Do ask for their Jain Menu if you're off onions & garlic on a few occasions.
Will definitely visit again and this time for a leisurely meal.
Visited this place a second time recently after checking out Zudio.
The food was as good as always but we were sitting on a table against the wall in a dark corner and there were 2-3 small cockroaches on the walls.
Started with the French onion soup which was delicious and then moved on to good old masala Pappad and cheese stick roll.
For the main course it was Mughalai biryani and kashmiri pulav. The food was not spicy but extremely flavorful and tasty.
Towards the end, after I had completed my meal, the small cockroaches ran to the plate and glass of water which completely ruined the experience for me :(
Guys please improve upon the maintenance.
Our family’s go to place for South Indian. We have been going here for years and I haven’t seen quality drop even once. Service is top notch. Not a big fan of their Chinese and continental though
If you want to feel old Chennai charm this is the place
I was accompanied by local friends as a guest to this place ,not able to click picture
Enteranc it's self make you feel you are walking in old Chennai restaurant and old Chevrolet of the first owner welcomes you at the parking
You need to wait for your turn as it's always buzzing with people of all generation
Though it's famous for thali and it's three course meals in Thali make it stand out from Other thaali services
You can order individual items too
We were welcomed my hot tammato soup
We order south Indian thali and Mumbai thali
South Indian as name suggest it has combination of rice rasam sambar and other south famous items
Mumbai thali also have sambar in it but they server tandoori roti , different sabaji and paneer tikka
You can refill your thaali as much time you want
Fresh fruit ice-cream in the end not only full your tummy but also your eyes and palate
Must visit if you are in Chennai!!!
Team is helping and smiling face gives warmth
Have visited this place twice now and it delivered on flavour on both occasions.
Their menu offers a great combination of South Indian and North Indian dishes with gobsmacking flavour that tickles your taste buds.
During lunch hours, their thalis are absolutely amazing. Their Maharaja Thali. Which is a fusion of North Indian and South Indian, is an absolute must try.
Agreed that it might be a little pricy for some people, but it is easily compensated with their food and service. And their ambience is also very pleasant.
Food - 4.5/5
Service - 5/5
Ambience - 4.5/5
This place has been a favourite haunt for years now and continues to serve the same thali and other tiffin items like dosa, Idly etc., Having visited dozens of time with family and friends, it's easy for me to give this a five star, but their service is still not quite up to the mark. Ambiance and seating is good.
Been to this place a few times. Enjoy their thali's. Pretty large place and good ambiance. Very old look and dimly lit though. Thalis are good and value for money. Service is okay.
Great place for vegetarians. Do try their South Indian meals. It is available at lunch and dinner timings.
They have a simple and common menu but their taste is exceptional. Lil slow on service but managable
Their naans are super soft. Gravies are Yummm! Their continental collection is good too. It's not like the Italian restaurant types. Lil different but worth a try. I tried their veg augratin and it was good. Thumbs up to that.
Def have their south india full meals.
The place is clean and always bustling. Food ordered and they informed me that there will be a delay which was good as they set the expectations at the beginning. The food was good, slightly oily though and filling.
Gobi parantha seemed a lil dry. aaloo and paneer parantha was nice.
A fantastic place for homely Indian food. South Indian dishes are among the best you can find in town. One of the best places to savour typical South Indian breakfast. Don't miss!!!
An Oldie but a Goldie. The absolute #1 place in Chennai for high-quality, inexpensive vegetarian food.
Landed up here when we were debating btwn Saravana Bhavan and Sangeeta's, and someone suggested that we go to Woodland's instead. Very glad that we instead came here. Everything, even the N. Indian and Chinese and Italian items, tasted fantastic.
Sampled Corn Au Gratin, Panneer 65, Panneer tikka, 4 soups, ghee roast, masala dosa, channa bhatura, poori masala, lasagna and the Chinese platter [No, I am not Bakasura - we were a group of 11 people]. All items were well-made, tasted awesome and were delivered quickly. We were in and out in one hour total.
We would not normally order Italian food at Woodland's, but no regrets that we did - the lasagna was very good, though it clearly was NOT lasagna (:-)). Chinese platter also was solid. Dosas and Bhatura were outstanding.
All in all, a great experience.
A decent vegetarian restaurant with excellent North Indian, Chinese and South Indian food. Food, Ambien and services is good. However you might expect some waiting for the table especially during weekends it gets crowded.
Jeera rice should be fried in ghee.
Outstanding.. Ambience. Staff. Food. All outstanding.. A perfect tam brahm place where u get these amazing ghee dosas and idlis. Place would even be perfect for a date but the crowd is generally elder people here.

The number of families that throng Vrindavan on a Saturday night is testament to its popularity in the demographic.
As far as the interiors are concerned, the place, true to its name, is decked with stunning paintings depicting the legends of Vrindavan from mythical times.
Food was pretty good. While the roti and naan with the Hyderabadi gravy were satisfactory, the Crispy Paneer Crumb-Coated and Crépe Mushroom were memorably good.
This is a must visit restaurant if you are connoisseur of south indian food. The menu is quite large and the taste is probably among the best for south indian dishes.
Something about this place, made me feel at home, at the end of the day, I think that’s what matters. It definitely stands out from other chain veg. restaurants in terms of ambience and service.
The south Indian thali they provide is one of best in Chennai , the quality they maintain is of the highest standards .
It's become a family tradition for us to visit or parcel meals every Sunday.
The best food within a budget .
Going to woodlands since a kid. Vrindavan after the renovation. Had the chili idly and pesarat.
Does anyone know whether they still serve the cheese balls? I used to get them in the drive-in woodlands before the renovations.
This is my go-to restaurant whenever I'm at Chennai. Absolutely amazing food (south or north, doesn't matter), the ambience is amazing! The paintings and the music just adds to the pleasure of eating. The service is also quick. During the weekends they're super packed (both restaurants) so make sure you're up for some waiting while you get there.

One of THE best for vegetarian food. The Continental dishes are as delicious as the South Indian. Don't miss out their Golden Fried Baby Corn, Phulka and Filter Coffee !
This place is always crowded, and that is a testament the the food served here. Everything is very tasty, for an extremely reasonable price. The service is also excellent, especially considering how busy the staff is. Their masala dosa and sambar vada deserve special mention!
Got food home delivered from here. On time delivery, good packing and no billing errors. Orders: French onion soup, panneer stuffed kulcha and aloo stuffed kulcha 😍 absolutely yummylicious! Totally worth the price. 😎
I had meals here with family. The food was tasty with complete south Indian essence. More than the food, the service offered by the waiters were so humble and caring.
I liked the way they treated us.
There isn't much exciting about the ambience. It looks like a usual upper class restaurant with paintings on wall.
But, Due to big crowd. We will be made to wait n watch others finish eating so then we can get a table. For group more than 4 have to wait for long to get a table. Nevertheless, the food covers up every odds once done.
We were 3 of us and after 8pm during Sunday’s it’s quite crowded. But we managed to get our place really quick.
Good option for vegetarians . Ordered masala dosa , ghee toast , veg noodles and veg manchurian dry. Taste was quite satisfying . And pocket friendly as well .
South Indian is one of the best in town. Their quality of food is very good. The food is not very spicy. Has the authentic taste of South Indian meals. Don't mix this with the Andhra meals, which is generally a bit spicy. In south indian thali you get good variety to start with soup, sweet, pori dal, sambar, rasam, koot portal to unlimited rice
This place is so beautiful and pretty because of it's ambience. The food was also really good. I had a veg platter along with spring roll dosa. Very tasty and creative and the service is just amazing.

Had been with a family of 4... Checked in at 10pm and we were suprised to see the restaurant full...
Service was warm and delightful... Had a wonderful dinner (mostly s. indian)... Price is worth the quality and quantity as well. Ambience was good... A pleasant experience for the entire family.
The yummy falooda they served deserves a special mention...
Will definitely visit again...
As a suggestion, if the hotel management could do something on the sound proofing, it would be really great, as at times, I found the restaurant to be very noisy.

By chance happened to be here for a quick lunch. Had fantastic South Indian thali and started with Soup and finished with one ice cream scoop.
Being in the city lots of people comes in office hours and the place was full.
A nice place to have a quick lunch.
Nice ambience. Good food. Prompt service. It's good place. Foods are good. The atmosphere is very soothing. Must say this is one of the most promising restaurant in this city.
A simple and a traditional outlet for the Indian Cuisine. Drop in if you are craving for something simple yet lip smacking. Quite a decent ambiance and a courteous staff.
It's a part of the New woodlands group. It's a multi cuisine place. They r famous for their North Indian thali. Their Maharaja thali is a must try which hs both North Indian & South Indian items. The seating capacity is very good & can easily accommodate any no. of Ppl. Service is quick.
Have been visiting this place since my childhood... stopped visiting in between...
The place is now more swanky.... had air conditioning and artsy decor...
As soon as you can enter you can see the patrons are all old timers who have been visiting since their young age...
we settled in for tiffin for breakfast... podi dosa... masala dosa... poori... ghee roast... butter dosa and filter coffee....
All the food were amazing... no change in great quality or standards...
The best thing about this restaurant is the service...
A place that will remain a favourite in the ever changing times just because they serve lip smacking South Indian delicacies and serve their customers like royalty...
Woodlands is possibly the last hotel in the city to survive the entry of foreign brands and over priced Indian chains to remain relevant and affordable.
The hotel is indeed woody and personifies a Chennai which is still genteel yet modern and Vrindavan fits this description to a T.
Vrindavan is themed with paintings of Lord Krishna's life and is slightly dimly lit.
The food is an all vegetarian affair with four types of thalis (meaning plate or a meal) - South Indian, North Indian, Special or Maharaja and Executive.
We tried the South Indian meal served in a round stainless steel plate over a banana leaf.
The meal came with a tomato soup, beetroot curry, pooris or unleavened Indian flat bread eaten with yellow daal, plain rice eaten with sambar which is a lentil based mixture of vegetables and spices in a tamarind base, koottu or vegetable stew, Sundakkai Vathal Kuzhambu or tangy gravy made of tamarind broth, pulses and dried turkey berries and rasam or mulligatawny soup.
The other accompaniments were raita which is onions and cucumbers in yoghurt and plain fresh yoghurt.
The meal comes with Indian sweets, today was Halva day and vanilla ice cream.
The servings of rice are unlimited.
The service is quick and efficient. This is one restaurant where the clientele is loyal and encompasses three generations or more. Don't believe me? See it for yourself.
Vrindavan and the hotel it is situated in offer that slice of old Chennai which most restaurants capture via old sepia prints :)
Great service, tasty food, reasonable price, amazing pictures of Lord Krishna and the sylvan and verdant settings of Hotel Woodlands make this a must visit place in my view.
Oh and it's not as noisy as some of the other restaurants I've visited.
An old good veg hotel in Mylapore area , sambar idli is a must to taste here, rates are comparatively better than other joints in mylapore. Service could be improved. They don't use much spice or masala in their food. Their poori is also good
New woodlands wakes up as early as 7:00 AM and extends until 11:00 AM for breakfast. "Generally" tiffin hotels aren't fancy and cozy but Woodlands stands an exception. Comfortable furniture and vigilant compliments the ambience.
Coming to the food, I would say Woodlands is THE place to enjoy south Indian. My choices for the day was a ghee roast dosa and my friend chose masala Dosa. The sambar was fantastic. One thing that you should never give a pass here is the coffee. Price is slightly high but of course with greater price comes better taste and quality.
Verdict : Must go place for south Indian Tiffin lovers.
if you visit this place try the meals here. The Rasam and Sambar is so so good.
Ambience should've been a little brighter but it's family friendly.
The Kheer/ Payasam was just so yummy.
Pleasing ambience with good service!! Food tasted yummy and they don't serve quick but food tasted yumm but they don't offer everything in the menu yet it's worth dining!!!
Ambience :5/5
Service :3/5
Food :4/5
Overall :3.5/5
Bon appetite :)
Ahhh.....Great food great ambiance great restauraunt......Worth eating there.....Great place for treats....Overall experience? Hope the ratings say the rest...
Took my friend here who hates to hit a vegetarian restaurant, to my surprise he loved everything here.. The place makes u go divine and the authentic taste of food is just blissful.. Just think of a place where u are just surrounded by beautiful paintings, lovely lights , extra good food , cold A/C.!! It seriously felt to give a very posh look.. Price are reasonable.. Will visit this place :)

This place ❤️
The oldies in my family always prefer this place!
Lots of seats to dine in..
amazing North Indian parathas , rotis, naans.
A complete Indian restaurant..
Both South Indian and North Indian dishes are tasty and delicious, from the soups, starters till the desserts..
Yu have an ample parking space within the building..
Located at the rear view of the woodlands complex at RK Salai.
Tasty south Indian food !! Thali is good. Fast service. The only drawback being the crowded noisy ambience. Wish they could do something about the seating arrangements. At any point of time you find customers waiting...
Excellent food, Service may improve lil. But overall amazing experience. Ambience is great, location great. Amazing paintings on all walls around.
I went so many times ,this is the time to take photo and uploading .Started with onion cream cheey soup,Gobi 65,veg sheek kebab ,lasagna, steak..All were great and enjoyable .Lovely dish -Soup was absolutely soooo delicious and Gobi 65 was perfect crispy .Pakka
I visited this place for lunch after many years. It was amazing food at reasonable prices.
The South Thali was excellent with the best dish being the sambar. The ala carte menu is also quite extensive. Apart from the Thali we had ordered the Veg Augratin, Crispy Potato with Hot Garlic Sauce, Schezwan Noodles. All items were tasty.
If you're in and around the Chennai Alwarpet area this place is definitely worth a visit!!!
Great fine dining vegetarian restaurant which has Udupi (Karnataka) style south Indian dishes and their cuisine ranges from South Indian to North Indian and also has numerous continental options as well. Their Bisibelabath, cheese corn Augustin are a must try! If you have an appetite for south Indian then their Mysore masala dosa, Onion rava, sambar vada, and rasa vada are delicious.
Loved this restaurant because they are serving a lot of veg varieties along with desserts. We have maharaja thali which includes a lot of beg dishes which is of 80% i wont eat but value for money. Service was top notch and value for money as well. The best interiors with a cool atmosphere. This one is situated inside the woodlands hotel and its a group of hotels to be chosen.

You will get some mid 80’s hotel feeling here. Always crowded in the weekends especially dinner time. Located in one of Chennai’s prime area. Multiple halls available for dine in with plenty of food options. The service is unprofessional. The co ordination between supervisors and delivery guys is pathetic. We are visiting this place for past 10 years. The same service guys are there with the same attitude and service. Despite of this service this hotel is always full. So people like us also used to them 😄
I took a lunch there and ordered South Indian Dish. It consisted of 3 Puri (mini), Dahi, 2 South Indian Sabzi (mix veg. & beetroot poriyal), Sambhar, Rice, Daal, Appam (Papad), Rasam, Raita, and Poricha Kulumbu. Out of everything, I loved Poricha Kulumbu. It was so so delicious. It is a must recommend for those who outsiders who visit here.
Been eating here for over 35 years with my father too. The murals inside are completely breathtaking. The food is absolutely authentic and over the years the standard has not changed. Absolutely glad it still is holding up. Anyone for veg meals in Chennai must come here.

Being the restaurant of choice for many it tends to be noisy most times.
Perfect veg restaurant to take your loved family members for a get together. If you inform prior that your group is primarily elders gathering for a special occasion, the manager lets you hold a table a little longer and offers patient service
Car park..big blessing
Today i went again to this restaurant to have my lunch . Exactly at 1130 it was opened. Want to have a decent vegetarian food at Cathedral Road, Chennai at nominal price and ambience? Then your choice should be Vrindavan Restaurant. This Restaurant is part of the famous Woodlands Hotels located just at the entrance of Hotel. You get variety of tasty South Indian tiffin varieties like Idli, Dosa, vada, Poori, Oothappam, Pongal and a number Vegetarian meals like Business Lunch, South Indian Thali, North Indian Plate Meals and Maharaja Thali, which is a Special here, priced at Rs300. While most of the meals have South and North indian items, Maharaja Thali has in addition Soup, Tandoori roti, or naan or even Pooris. You can choose. But all we're soft and good. Naan was not like rubber! Special subjis, Ghee, Sambhar, Rasam, Veg Briyani, curd, Paneer Tikka, and fruit salad with ice cream. You get sufficient quantities of items which can be requested further like Rice. You get a welcome drink too which too good.
It's very tasty. The walls are decorated with Paintings of Krishna and his life, the seating is good, the ambience is perfect and the rates are reasonable. The Baby Corn Bajji is famous here. While business lunch is Rs.238, normal South indian Thali is 257 and North Indian Thali is at Rs.276.
You may like to visit the restaurant with family and friends again as its pocket friendly and calm and quiet too. Plenty of parking space is available inside the hotel and cards and digital payments are accepted. The staff are friendly and helpful. Quiet ambience and not noisy.
Recommended to visit and have a delicious and sumptuous food!
I had a really good experience dining at this restaurant. The food quality was good. I went to this restaurant on a weekend.
Positives:
Ambience was really good.
Service was good. They served quickly even though it was crowded.
Wide range of options to choose - North Indian, South Indian, Chinese, American, Salads and Jain food.
The food was sumptuous.
Quantity of food was excellent.
People of all age groups were able to enjoy.
Negatives:
The place was packed with people. If you're someone who prefers silence and some jazz music, this is not the one for you.
The cream of tomato soup was very ordinary. It was bland even after adding salt and pepper.
No reservation of tables. I had to wait for few minutes before entering the restaurant. It will always be crowded on weekends.
Must-try:
Ghee roast, Crispy potato with hot garlic sauce, American chop suey, North Indian meals, Bombay Rose falooda, Lemon soda (Salted)
Things that could've been better:
Cream of tomato soup, Bhindi Do pyaza, Jigarthanda, Paneer 65
Overall: 4 out of 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Good multi cuisine vegetarian restaurant in the heart of the city. Prices have gone up in the recent days, still a bargain for quality and location. We went for North Indian items and ordered few tandoori breads along with palak paneer and veg jalfrezi. Though it took little longer than the usual, it was worth the wait.
Nov 14, 2021 - Dinner at Vrindavan. We went early and the place empty, but quickly filled up as we were working thru our dinner. Great food as always. One thing that puzzles with them is their pricing, which is mostly in fractions... for example Coffee is 76.72 instead of simply 75 or 76 or 77 or just 80. Why is unique pricing? Does anyone know?
Mar 5, 2022
Tried north indian items this time and they were equally good.
Great ambience for a family gathering or a peaceful rendavous.. Multi-Cuisine Vegetarian Restaurant offers food that is tasty at reasonable rates. Ample car parking + Super fast service..
Continues to be one of my favourite vegetarian restaurants in Chennai. Had a South Indian thali. As always enjoyable. Highly recommended. Personally a must visit for me whenever in Chennai.
For those of us who enjoy the classical Indian restaurant experience with darkened dining rooms, great aromas and air conditioned scents, and quick but quality service, this is an absolute nostalgic and beautiful throwback to those lovely places from the '80s and 90s that we grew up on. Fantastic. PS The filter coffee is wonderful here.
Very good pure veg restaurant. Must try this place . I ordered panner starter and mashroom sabji with kulcha. All taste very good.
I see many customers order thali , which is famous.
I would recommend this place for veg. The ambiance is very nice , peaceful, proper spacing, good service
The place is a bit expensive but worth visiting, you won't be disappointed.
