The best thing about the cafe is it is run by the staff who has suffered Burns and all the money which is generated goes to the NGO who helps the victims in their upliftment.
Moreover, the food is amazing. Very delicious and all the food is cooked by the victims themselves who are highly trained.
The overall Experience is amazing with wide range of Niche stationery & rejuvenating coffee.

I just had a wonderful lunch consisting of Swiss Cheese Fries, Ceasar Salad and Tuna, tartare sauce, pickles on Chiabatti., and Death By Chocolate cake! What a great atmosphere and a wonderful staff. This is my new favorite place in Chennai!

Ordered a pancake , iced latte, herbed garlic bread and a red velvet cupcake. The pancake with caramel sauce and whipped cream tasted amazing but the iced latte and cupcake were let downs for me.
This is a quality restaurant at reasonable prices..Glad I had found it..Packaging was cute and Pizza, the rectangular one is also good..I have chosen Kashmiri red chilli powder and grilled onion as toppings and it's spicy as needed.

Peaceful cafe with Higginbothams store attached. Nicely maintained restroom, and social distancing measures. Staff wears mask and shield. Menu cards replaced with QR code that displays menu on customer phone. The restaurant has successfully minimized contact at high contact points.
Death by chocolate its super duper Moist dense chocolate and absolutely perfect. It Was really impressive with the delightful taste of rich chocolate. I Would definitely recommend it to every one.

It was after so long..almost 4 months we went for brunch..and we had satisfied tummy fillers following all social distancing norms as mentioned by WHO.

Nice place foe breakfast, lunch or snack. Barbecue pulled chicken salad , waffles and cream, pancakes are my few favourites. To drink i would not suggest anything except normal coffee or tea only if u need to drink.

I'm gladddddd I did visit writes cafe ever since 🙌 i am a big fan of the Flamannkuchan, the fresh made ice creams hot chocolate ,Salads ( tried everything on the menu).
It's very inexpensive, amazing food, like you could go there any time any day, brilliant service the staff is just so welcoming that's one reason why I love to visit that place. And the desserts are mind blowing.

Lemon chicken - It was really yummy!! They gave fried boneless chicken pieces with white sesame seeds along with lettuce as side.
Chilli Cheese fries - Normal frenchbfries baked with cheese on top

Swiss chocolate- This is my constant order whenever i go to Writer's cafe.
Death by chocolate-The cake was not indulge in chocolate as name suggest but worth for the price.
Flammenkuchen - ordered this with Corn,Olives and grilled chicken topping.This is not my cup of tea!!
Pancake with ferrero rocher scoop - I was dissapointed with the pancake.In other outlet,They serve slimmer version but gopalapuram done quite opposite.We hated it so called the manager and complained that this was total waste and will not pay.They came up with chef saying they will prepare pancake again (Slimmer) as requested.The management did a great job ❤️ winning customer !!!
Writer's cafe - Don't judge the book by its cover!!! It is pocket friendly place.I went with my elder sister and this place was filled with young couples and students crowd.I was quite uncomfortable as student started looking at us 🥱 The staff were so enthusiastic and service is much appreciated.
My suggestion to management is to improve their old school decor!!! Feels like outdated....Thanks
A must visit in Chennai, truly. Their pizzas are the best while being cheap. The ambience is also very quaint. Also, the servers and the owner, I'm presuming, were very friendly and made me feel v.comfortable as I was dining alone one time.

Had tried the blue berry crumble long time ago and was keen on trying the savory menu one fine day .. finally had the chance to.. and boy was it amazing !!
The pizza had a beautifully crispy base .. however the base is not freshly hand tossed..and I was rather dissapinted to see the pre-made base being used in the kitchen ( yes! They have an open kitchen ) but the toppings compensated for the wee bit of disappointment..
The starters- ordered the lemon chicken , cheesy fries, pear salad and walnut & chicken salad ...
The mains - skillet chicken had huge serving of mashed potatoes envoloped by the beautiful pepper sauce .. the chicken was perfectly cooked and succulent..

This place is perfect combination for food lovers and book lovers. They have their own small library and by the time is order is served you can check the books. The place has comfortable seating arrangement . The staff is quick to take the order and also very courteous. The food is good with sufficient quantity and the best part is this place is not at all costly. Definitely a perfect place to spend you lazy Sunday with friends and family.
The only writers cafe that provides the French toast in Chennai i guess. The best item I would say. The pizzas are great as usual and everything else is top class with great price point.

Been here a couple of times. Have tried their coffee , soup of the day , teriyaki strips and sticky lemon chicken. Now soup was brilliant way more than what we expected both in taste and portion. Similarly starters were excellent too. Tried garlic bread once and it was just fine.

Had to kill 1 few hours before my flight so just looked at tripadvisor for the closest, nice cafe and go this one. The place is well done with books on one side, cafe at the other and the display of bakery at the edge. A nice place to just hangout and relax. I was able to finish some office work in the peaceful environ. Ordered a juice and french toast. The food was served on a hot pan and was beautifully cooked and presented. Prices are slightly high. Staff is courteous but seemed a bit clueless and charge me the amount from another table. Sorted it out quickly, though.

Writer's is one of the most wonderful places to spend some quality time with friends to family or even by yourself. Be it the food or the ambiance it accommodates all age groups, the staff is friendly and I am a regular at both Gopalapuram and Egmore. From attending workshops to hanging out with colleagues. Have done it all here. Services are good even when they are nearing their closing hours.

It’s spicy and loved the way it’s baked with veggies.

The steak was just good. The salad was too good. The smoothie and the dessert were outstanding. Altogether, we had a good time and pretty decent food.

The aromatic coffee is fabulous! I have ordered the curry cheese macaroni and marinara spaghetti with grilled chicken. Writers Cafe offers high quality of western food and coffee. Really like the quiet atmosphere here which is suitable for meetings, study and reading.

Writers Cafe is like my "always go to place" , I just cant get enough of their Chicken Lasagne. They provide a very subtle ambience along with a book/stationary store to kill time whilst you wait for your food. The place is always crowed because of the good food and their friendly ambience. I'd say you could try all their dishes without doubt , trust me you would go crazy!
First things first - the food is yum and prices value for money. Yes, service is kind of slow at times and at times AC is ineffective. But then it is one of those iconic places in Chennai which retains the feel of colonial Madras. Surrounded by books, the set up is unique too.
Must recommended : Chicken Pizza (portion size is huge) and masala omelette
And their masala tea is heavenly. Try with cinnamon rolls.

A great place, filled with books, a book will love it. And tasty food, the names are very difficult to remember, but food was really tasty, it's Mac and cheese is a must try, n it's also the pictures of the dishes I uploaded below. Must try it's mint cucumber drink, that's just amazing and I don't the picture of the veg dish but even that was damm tasty.

Writer's cafe lives upto it's name of being one of the best cafe's in chennai with such affordable prices. This outlet is quite big and the book collections are amazing as well. They even have some Manga volumes and box sets, which were completely random though.
Coming to the food, no complaints tbh. Absolutely delicious. Veg and Non veg varieties were amazing, from continental to Indian.
Service, however, could have been better. It is understandable to an extent that when the cafe is houseful there could be delays in attending each and every customer. But it could have been better, it surely can't take 25 mins for a mocha to be served. The staff sometimes just forget the orders and we have to remind them, which is a letdown since they seem to provide great hospitality at the start.
I would suggest this place anyday, the prices are affordable, great location, enough parking spaces, and amazing book collection.

Well, mixed reactions. First of all, the service was awesome, and the food and the ambience were like no other.
I asked if I could work from there for a while, and they gladly agreed.
The food was good. Only down was the boss (or owner?) lady. She seemed a little arrogant to other customers, but I didn't have to interact with her.
I wish to treat it as normality (but it's not, unfortunately), their openness to hire acid attack survivors is much appreciated, and to see the spirit is alive even after 8 years, is even more awesome.
Absolutely awesome and pocket friendly.
I think food and books.. one of the best combos ever. I actually like the ambience. However I was already full so ordered only tomato soup which was not as good as expected. Maybe I should have tried some different items.

We were a group of 12 and were really loud, not gonna lie.
We booked in advance as we were a huge group. They prepared a table for us, they took our orders, there were a lot of customisations as well. The food was absolutely amazing.
The waiters were so kind and nice to us. They recommended portions to us as well.
Overall a really nice experience.
But wait, the best part was they were selling books and journals which was so cool. They also had the vintage Archies comic books 📚

The ambience is very good for a friends gathering and the service was very good. The cakes and the bakery items are top notch and the books section is also good with very good range to select from.

This writers cafe has a pleasant atmosphere with good food and dessert. The drinks menu could be better as the options are limited to a few shakes and mojitos.
The service was a little poor and we had to call out multiple times to gain attention of the waiters everytime we wanted to order something.

I have always liked this place, 1st time when I went 3 years back it was all empty but today none of the chairs were free, it was that packed. Good place to dind and get a book for yourself.
I went with my colleague. It was a very nice atmosphere. Not much spacious, but people will manage. Service was excellent. Rate high, but considering the posh area, we can pay. Parking for bikes ample place there. Good for families too and bringing children. Most peaceful place without any traffic noises from outside.

Have heard of Writer's Cafe in many Instagram reels and have never been since it is costly for middle class people.
A friend of mine offered me a treat in Writer's cafe Gopalapuram outlet on 6-Aug-23
Ambience: Firstly I was mesmerized with their ambience, theme and lighting. The AC level was also moderate.
Cleanliness: The restaurant was clean and there was no separate area for hand washing it was inside a common restroom for both men and women. The restaurant should work on this point having a separate hand wash area.
Service: The service was too good, the waiters were too polite and all the dishes were served in a stipulated time with not much waiting time.
Taste& Price : We ordered
1. madras bbq pizza (one of the best pizzas I
have ever tasted in my life, usually I prefer
only Domino's Pizza after having here it also
became my favourite) It had 8 pieces and
cost ₹180 and surely it was worth it.
2. Periyaki Chicken (This dish was very new
for me they gave the chicken with some
sauce and it also tasted good) It cost ₹220.
3. Pasta (The pasta was also good) It cost
₹420 which I felt costly for the quantity and
taste.

My first time to Gopalapuram writers cafe. From peters road on the right below the bridge is this cafe. Popular among writers who generally hold workshop or book release or book reading, this cafe is divided into three portions. First on the left is an array of tables while right is full of bakery items and center is book shelves.
Every writers cafe unique feature is the display of books near the food place. Placing order I went straight into my favourite spot, books. To my surprise I found Archie books, after a loooong time. My happiness couldn’t stay for long, for the book counter person is absent and so I could only visualise but not buy.
My order of green tea and paneer fraccio sandwich arrived. Best tea and soft sandwich I tasted. A must place to visit in chennai. Their latest addition is writers fried chicken.
