China 🇨🇳 XO
Leela Palace

Arguably the best Chinese affair in Chennai, you couldn't ask for better ambience than what Leela's offer,

We went for the Brunch on New Year's Day, which was quite similar to that of their Sunday brunches, a hell lotta options, Best Dim sums in the city by far, one or two wannabes can be removed is what I felt,

Loved every thing about it including the desserts,

Truffle and Edamame: Nor there was truffles not was there edamame ... it was truffle oil and edamame mashed with daikon crunches I felt some potato kinda starch in there too, overall this particular dim sum can be avoided it's just there for the sake of luxury offering which is of no use,

The simplest dim sums and other preparations were so so perfect that the above truffle can be remove, the whole the world of overrated truffles just couldn't stay out of the word luxury.

And i just love their new menu it has salmon fried rice which is my favourite from their last years Chinese New Year menu and many other great items. Headed to ChinaXO for casual dinner on Sunday evening before new year. Restaurant was completely full hence offered to dine at open area. Fresh breeze from sea was soothing, but after a while felt cold and changed our dining to inside restaurant. The service by Karthik was amazing, his charming attitude made us feel comfortable and had very good dining experience. Coming to food. We took a vegetarian set menu, which will cost around 4.1k with taxes per one. This menu is beast. It kept coming for long time in huge quantities. One can ask for repetitions. It is very hard for one to finish all of the first servings itself. Started with assortment of dimsums, my favourite was truffle and edamame. Starters were amazing. My favourite is okra fritters and lotus root fritters. Main course was good but not my favourite. It has soo many things from noodles, cantonaise rice, tofu based dishes etc. Assortment of desserts were amazing. I would suggest one to go to a la carte as the set menu I opted was toooo much for one person to finish.

Husband took me out for a very romantic birthday dinner here. Ambience is beautiful. Perfect for a special date. Good lighting. Not dark. Tables are wide set. Staff were ok. Food is authentic chinese unlike the indo chinese versions we usually get around here. Delicious meal.
Pricing: 2 soups 2 starters 1 gravy 1 rice dish 1movktail and water amounted to 8500.

We had heard a great many reviews about "The Leela Palace " and were more than a little curious to check out the place. The ambience and cordial professional courtesy of the employees there does not disappoint. We had chosen to dine at China XO for lunch. We were welcomed with fragrant jasmine tea and were seated at a table with a beautiful view of the pool. The staff were very courteous while taking our orders and offering helpful suggestions to suit our taste buds .
We had ordered scallop dimsums and baked lobster for the appetizers , seafood hoffan noodles , seafood fried rice and pork belly in soya sauce for the main course and mocktails. The dimsums arrived first - they were topped with fish roe and the overall effect was pleasing to the eye . As for the taste , I personally did not enjoy it much due to the taste of the scallop ( but is recommended for those who enjoy the taste of scallop) , the baked lobster served with garlic and butter sauce was served next - the cook on the lobster did not do justice to the treat it usually is as it was rather stringy and chewy with an overload of butter sauce . The seafood fried rice and the hoffan noodles were served next . The fried rice was excellent in every way - from the look to the taste and texture . We enjoyed finishing the whole bowl with a greedy appetite. The hoffan noodles fell short of expectations ( again this could be due to my lack of preference for scallops )but it did rather look like the scallops were not treated with care as we had huge chunks (not bite sized ) in the noodles which was a little off putting , the flavour of the dish felt lacking but the vegetables were the saving grace of this dish . The pork belly - which is what I was personally looking forward to was a little bit of a disappointment. It was served with flat sweet bread( similar to the appam famous in kerala) the combination and flavour profiles were great and should have brought it to perfection but the cook on the pork could have been done better , it needed a little longer on the heat for the meat resistance to give way and allow those fatty tender bits to dominate( this when was later heated and devoured at home was perfect ) . The overall experience was not worth the price but maybe it was just that one time when they had fallen short of their high standards , would definitely like to visit again and sample the other options.
P.S. I wish I had taken pics to add to this review .

Chinese food that’s tasted well. Loved their subtle flavor They had good portion size. Loved their Prawn Dimsum. Staff is trained well to suggest and understand the needs. Special thanks to Tarun. Their mocktail combinations where good meantime the the essence or the flavor was not there, may be a mixing issue, a one time one.

Had on of my favourite Asian meals here! If you've been craving dimsums and are in a mood to pamper yourself, then the sunday brunch at China XO is the answer.

The ambiance is inviting, and sitting outdoors in a nice weather would be sheer bliss. Started my meal with dimsums! Their dimsums are the bomb, you cannot eat just one. I tried almost all the dimsums and frankly couldn't choose a favorite. The vegetable, edamame and truffle, mushrooms - they all tasted great. The wide variety of appetizers will leave you full!

I couldn't try the mains, I was so full already. But they've decent options for vegetarians as well. End your meals with their musk melon dessert and chocolate ice cream, of course that's if you have the space that is.

Our meal for two came upto ₹6500/- and I'm already planning my next visit. Found their limited weekday lunch menu pretty interesting, hoping to check that out.

Okay, so my husband and I had been here on my birthday.. A long due review.. We visited China XO, we went there especially for the Jasmine fried rice (had it once and we fell in love).. Unfortunately they didn't have it.. 😋 It's a beautiful setup.. As usual I had veg and husband non veg. My husband ordered for roasted duck and they literally prepared it at our table.. He didn't like it as much being his first time tasting duck. I liked mine (fried rice and Thai curry) but wasn't our usual amazing food. You can try if u have a few extra to burn... But the place is something u shouldn't miss.. Hospitality was also at average that day which is usually not the case. Enjoi ur sophisticated meal here 💃

Sunday Brunch, wherever you have it, has to be a relaxed affair. We were at China XO almost from the time doors opened till the doors closed.
The Dim Sums are the best in the city, with a very good selection for vegetarians & non-vegetarians. Our favourites were the Sea bass, the Truffle Edemame & the Seafood. The fried rice too was excellent with subtle flavours.
Service was very good with our servers being attentive to & anticipating our wants.
Ambience is that quiet sophistication that is surprisingly warm & relaxed.
Our only complain was the music. It was a bit loud & featured Chinese pop. The range could be more mellow for a Sunday afternoon. I hope they make this change by our next visit.

I generally don't get wowed by Chinese food, but this place was an exception. We ordered starters, main course and dessert( that was ice cream, since the kids wanted it) and I loved everything. The Dimsum, crispy prawn & calamari was amazing, I wanted more of it. The main course we had chicken with cashew and red chillies, which was just so tasty. The noodles was also stand out for me. All in all a great place for Chinese food, will definitely go back again.

The Leela has been known for its superlative service standards. My visit to China XO recently reaffirmed the same. Right from when we entered and were seated and until the moment we left with our tummies and hearts full, this was a truly memorable experience.

For starters, we ordered the Lotus Root fritters with Mashed Potatoes. The balance between the crispness of the root and the softness of the potatoes was noteworthy. The pineapple salad on the house was a nice filler for our conversations. We couldn't but notice and appreciate the variety of vegetarian options (which many 5-Starred Asian restaurants lack) and chose the Fried Rice with Ginger and Pinenuts for our second course, and coupled with Stir Fried Veggies, Water Chestnut, and Mushroom in Sweet Onion Sauce. We replaced the sweet onion sauce with the Guilin Chili sauce in need of a spicier option. The vegetables were cooked to perfection and were delectable, especially with the sticky texture presented by the jasmine rice. What really made our evening extra special was the hospitality from our steward Mr. Tarun, and I'd be doing a disservice to my experience by not mentioning his efforts in ensuring that all our checkboxes were ticked. As with any other 5-starred meal, there is a price tag that came with this one too. However, China XO justifies the bill with its exemplary service delivery and a unique and refined culinary experience.Food - 5/5Ambiance - 5/5Service - 10/5 VFM - 5/5Overall 5/5

My wife and I are great proponents of good food, and we acknowledge that genuinely good food comes at a cost. So, when you go to a place such a China XO which has established a niche for itself in the city, located inside a well-renowned hotel chain, you really are not looking for the price. You go there to get an experience and come out with memories.
With that background and again a craving for authentic, fine dining Chinese, we decided to go to China XO, a little far from where we lived, but then, the reviews and ratings pulled us in. Since we were just the two of us, so we decided to keep it minimal.
The appetizer was the Crispy Calamari with Spicy salt. The batter was to the point, calamari not too oily, in fact, the oil wouldn't come on to your fingers! And what can I say about the salt, created in the kitchen itself with chili flakes, garlic, and salt, that extra bit gave the calamari an astonishing twist. It was truly the best Crispy Calamari we've had to date.
For the main, we decided to try the Peking Duck (Half). Now here things started to go a little down, as the duck was not cooking the right way for some reason. The manager came up to us after a prolonged duration and informed that the duck is behaving funny so they will try with another one.So we waited, they offered to get us something to eat, but we were saving the space for the duck. The second try went the same way! Now it was more than an hour since our last order and we decided to call it quits, but the manager insisted that we give him one last try. So we did.
This time though, the Duck came in all its glory, smiling at us as the chef prepared it beside our table, and although we had ordered half, the manager insisted that we have the full one! (of course, he charged us for the half only)
Was it worth the wait? It definitely was! The skin with sugar sprinkled, the meat wrapped in the pancake with the hoisin sauce was melting in the mouth. It was heavenly having that kind of meat, you can attribute it to the wait but even today when we think of that dinner, it feels as if that duck is being carved in front of us, right now!

And that's what I said, you go to certain places to create memories and experience good food. And it comes at a price.

To celebrate on my wife becoming a plastic surgeon here at Chennai, I decided to celebrate at a Leela Palace property as one does not go wrong with a Leela. At China XO I had a wonderful gastronomic experience. Paired with my usual Reisling, we savoured our crispy fried soft shell crab and munched in some pineapple kimchi. For the main course we had sichuan lamb chops which were done medium rare sous vide with some egg fried rice. Service is good and the ambience quiet which is my kind of ambience where one can actually have a conversation. Thank you Leela Palace. I look forward to celebrate at your properties on momentous occassions.

XO is a well decorated restaurant, with great service, in a nice hotel. We were received very courteously and the service from start to finish, was helpful but not obtrusive. The waiter was  able to answer a couple of questions we had on the food, and when he did not know, he went to the chef and came back with answers.

We started with the Assorted Vegetarian Dumplings in which the Vegetable Crystal was the standout favorite at our table, out of the three varieties served. The Fried Aromatic Tofu was crisply fried on the outside, silky on the inside and nicely spiced. We also added on an order of Vegetable and Lotus Roll dumplings which were also enjoyable.

We took our time ordering our main course and put in the order only after finishing our appetizers. The Steamed Tofu with Sichuan Peppercorn featured the same silky tofu and was very tasty. However, finding Sichuan Peppercorns in it was like a treasure hunt as they were few and far in between. And when found, they exploded in our mouths, with great flavor. Wish there had been more!  We ordered the Wok Fried Garlic Flavored Seasonal Greens only to find out that "Greens" do not mean leafy greens and instead mean green vegetables. But it was well executed and despite the surprise we really liked it. We topped these off with Egg Fried Rice.

If you want a regular "Indian-Chinese" meal, restaurants like Mainland China are a better choice. If you want a experience that tastes closer to real Chinese with less Indian spices, XO is the place to go.

One of the most beautiful hotels I've visited in Chennai apart from ITC Grand Chola. We got a nice sea view table as promised. Wonderful Ambience. You feel happy and calm as soon as you enter the place!

Food - I wouldn't call it as Indo-Chinese. It's authentic Chinese food. So please expect less salt and spice in your food. Kung Pao chicken was super tasty. Visit this place if you love Chinese cuisine. The staff were nice but a little slow moving. Otherwise no complaints.

Finally got the chance to go to China XO for the renowned Dim-Sum brunch. The excitement level of a) sunday brunch coupled together with b) unlimited dim-sims was unparalleled. The menu is straight-forward. 15-20 varieties of Dim-sums (veg + non-veg). 4 Starterts (veg + non-veg) + 4 Soup options. One main course and ofcourse rice+noodles options. Desert options limited but they have Mango ice cream scoops which is great after a spicy meal.

I just told them to bring me all the dim-sums in the menu one after the other. It was such an amazing experience to try fresh hot steaming dim sums. At one point, I lost track of which flavors were being served, but from what I remember the Chicken-prawn, Truffle-edamame, Chilean SeaBass, Turnip Cake were the stand outs. The hot and sour soup was really good as well (and I don't like soups generally).

Squeezed in a couple of appetizers and there was no room for main course unfortunately.  We spent a good 2-hours just enjoying our food!

Desert were average! Mango Ice Cream the stand out and much needed!

Overall an amazing experience!! Would definitely recommend it - completely worth the price!!

China XO is the place to go if you really enjoy the real Chinese food. The dimsums are a must try and all of them are amazing. We tried almost every dim sum on the menu, can't fault any of them. We skipped the soup course but the main was also good. The main course has good portions, not very big. The egg fried rice and the chicken dishes were all good but nothing to rave about. They were as close to authentic Chinese than most places that claim to be. The highlight of the evening was the Peking duck. That was amazing... succulent.. and delicious... we had it with salad and some bread and honey dressing. Definitely worth the money! The desserts were ok, again nothing to rave about.. but that's also because we were so stuffed that dessert wasn't on our mind... all in all amazing food experience!! (Dreaming about dimsums and duck now!!)

Lovely ambience .. feels very royal.. authentic Chinese food which is slightly on the expensive side but the quality is worth the money spent. The chicken dimsums and asparagus baby corn in Guilin chilly sauce were the best dishes which we had! The noodles and fried rice were very good and authentic as well. I loved how the asparagus was served separately from the sauce so that it remains crisp.

When the 'Leela' decides to build something extravagant, there is no stopping it. Having said that, the opulence and grandeur of this restaurant takes luxury fine dining to another level altogether!! The expanse is mind blowing and just it's sheer size can be intimidating! Only superlatives could probably do justice to something such as this! At the fag end of the restaurant are those secluded private dining chambers with exquisitely done up interiors..! Also the restaurant comes equipped with its own bar even...fine bone china in addition to scotch bottles which are used as decoratives, further enhances the already fabriced walls..A feast to the senses is what I would term 'China XO as...And lastly, to state in simple terms, i would say it is simply the most lavish Chinese restaurant in the country!!

Been here multiple times, and boy do I love this place! The ambience is stunning to say the least, as is the case with any Leela property I guess. I always prefer making a booking.

I always go for the dumpling basket -
Consists of my favorite - edamame and truffle
The crystal vegetables dumpling
Pumpkin & chive dumpling.

Love all 3 of them
The crispy Lotus stem is also yummy but needs a good helping of the dipping with it!

Have tried the vegetables in black bean sauce which was pretty yummy along with the garlic golden rice.

Can't wait to be back here again and again and again!!!!

China xo needs no introduction when it comes to Authentic PAN Asian outlets in chennai. This is one of the few places where u can experience a proper Asian menu.

We went for the Sunday brunch on Christmas. The whole lobby was lit with lights and spectre was hosting a Christmas brunch. China xo is situated on the ground floor on the left side when u come by stairs.
The ambience just sings Asian right from the table setup which was quiet interesting, it was arranged like mini blocks inside the restaurant. And when u enter u have a live kitchen on the right side and a open view on the left followed by the blocks. We were walked to our table followed by the drinks and food menu.

For drinks :
Virjin mojito - nice and refreshing.

Lemon Ice tea - I liked it with the lemon flavour.

Soup :
Hot and sour chicken : this is by far the best hot and sour I ever had. It just makes u to go for another spoon. This set the bar high for the brunch.

Dumplings :
Chicken and prawn siumai - the filling was good and it was cooked perfectly. I loved the texture of the dumpling, and the sauce paired well with the filling.

Seafood siumai - it was also good and was similar to the previous one.

Chicken dumpling - it was soft and had great consistency. Who doesn't love chicken dumpling.

Vegetable and lotus roll - this was pure bliss. It was rolled and the filling went really good with the pepper based sauce. I just loved it and would recommend it for people to try it.

Truffle and edamame - This was a bean paste dumpling with truffle oil. I personally loved it. The bean paste Cooked inside with the truffle oil on top was really good. It was different and interesting.

Hot appetisers :
Crispy prawn with Hunan chilli paste - it was a battered fried prawn with Hunan chilli powder on top. The chilli powder tasted like spicy cheese and went well with the chilli sauce.

Crispy calamari with spicy salt - this was a let down for me. I just tasted calamari which was a little hard and just salt. I expected a spicy one with some spice rub on top.

Sichuan chilli chicken with pepper corn - it was a crispy chicken tossed with chilli and onion but done perfectly. I loved the burnt onion and the ginger and chicken was superb. Just loved it.

Mains :
Fried rice yang chow style - This was again a star in the mains. The rice was mixed with cubes of bbq chicken and the rice was different in taste but had a texture that of sticky rice with bold Asian flavors.

Kung Pao chicken - this was also again a perfect done chicken. The sauce and the cashew nuts was heavenly. The rice and the side was too good to miss it.

Wok tossed lamb black pepper sauce - the sauce didn't cut it out for me. It lacked the intense black pepper sauce which makes it mouthwatering.

Deserts :
Tropical sliced fruits with almond jelly - we were too full to try any deserts so we went for a simple and a light one. The almond jelly was interesting and the fruits eased our tummy. We also had a vanilla ice cream which was smooth and silky. It just eased through the spoon.

The staff was really caring and helped us in the menu. The hospitality was great and nothing less of a grand experience. The overall experience was amazing and we enjoyed it very much.

The brunch is 2500 + tax which comes upto 3000.

Been here a couple of times. This place is when your looking to have authentic food with a lovely ambience. The dim Sum's are out of the world but getting only 3 pieces per serving is a little depressing but yes it is well worth the taste. The crispy calamari with spicy salt is delicious. The Pork & Beef is supposed to be very good and is always enjoyed by the others on the table.

Ate dinner here while staying in at Leela today. The interiors are luxuriously exquisite and the ambience just perfect to enjoy lovely oriental Chinese food. Sat indoors with my wife. We ordered the Lotus stem with mashed potatoes as a starter and this was unlike anything we have eaten before. For the main course we called for a egg chilly garlic fried rice modifying one of their dishes somewhat, a chilly garlic noodles and a stir fry veg with mushrooms and water chestnut. The main course may not be the best Ive eaten but was  really very good. For the finale dessert a mango pudding with mango ice cream was just a perfect finish to a complete full enjoyable dinner.

There are quite a few Chinese / Pan Asian restaurants in town. I count China XO as one that serves authentic Chinese and that too in the most palatable form. Grandiose in every bit of the ambiance and food, it has table set ups that are like mini restaurants within the restaurant. The high end, Chinese Speciality Fine Dine Restaurant at The Leela Palace Chennai is hosting 'Seafood by the Bay' Food Festival till September 11, 2016. Went here to celebrate my mom's birthday while we were in Chennai!

First of all, really impressed by the chennai Leela as a whole compared to the Bangalore one.

We were craving Chinese, so we decided to check into this place. The place looks extravagant. Very intense and piercing interiors.

The service is great, did I mention, very friendly and concerned staff! Coming to the food,

We ordered
Soup:
Clear wonton soup

Appetizers:
Dimsums-seafood simui
Fried soft shell crab with golden fried garlic
BBQ soy honey chicken

Main course:
Pan fried noodles with chicken and vegetables
Egg fried rice
Stir fried chicken with spring onion and oyster sauce

Coming to the soup, it was a bit salty. But the wontons tasted great.
The dimsums were just DELICIOUS. Seriously, one of the best dimsums I have ever eaten!
Soft shell crab could've been a little more crispy, I felt. They tasted decent. The honey chicken, I loved!

Coming to the main course, the pan fried noodles with chicken and vegetables was beyond delicious! Seriously, please try that! The egg rice and the chicken in oyster sauce tasted just the way they should.

Overall, loved the dimsums, honey chicken and the pan fried noodles! And we also ordered a cake for my mother, and holy moly it was a mousse cake and I should add, one of the best cakes I have ever eaten!
The bill came upto 13k.

Luxury and good food go hand in n hand.I have been to this place for my birthday .I dont remember the exact names of the dishes which v ordered. All i could remember was v had some starters ,rice and chicken dish to go with the rice. The food was perfect and you cannot find any flaws.Usually they say 5 star hotels quantity will be bad but a dish was enough for 2 people to eat plenty. I loved the eggless complementary cake they gave .Waiting for another good occasion to visit this place.

I don't like dim sum at all, but I couldn't stop eating their dim sums are AMAZING - pick any. And they come in bite- sized portions too so you can try the variety.
Don't try the flourless cake in the dessert menu though.
All in all great food and excellent service!

The place is very well made and has a luxurious feel. The service was a little disappointing but the food made up for it. Would have rated 4.5 but for the service. Most star properties are trying to follow the western way of serving the guests rather than warm Indian hospitality. Coming to the food had ordered for 2 soups one was the veg dim sum and the hot and sour veg soup. One of the best hot and sour veg soup I have tasted up till now. For starters called for lotus stem, veg dim sum basket which was very good with 3 varieties of dim sum. The truffle and edamame dim sum tasted the best. Ordered the okra salt and pepper with lotus stem with mash potato and fried tofu which tasted very good especially the lotus stem and mash potato tasted different and good. Since most of our meal was starters and soups for main course ordered a spicy garlic fried rice and vegetables with black bean sauce. The rice was not that spicy but the black bean sauce with vegetables made up for it. Over all a nice place but service point of view I rate leela among top three in india but it was not up to expectations.

China XO, the exclusive chinese cuisine restaurent of The Leela Palace has a pretty awesome and quiet ambiance. But even this place was not exclusive of mosquitos which was quite surprising.

The food was awesome. We went in as a group of 14. We were provided a pretty secluded enclosure which was just about enough for our group to fit in. We ordered three different types of soups. The sea food spinach soup was the best among them, followed by chicken manchow and double boiled chicken soup with black mushroom. For the starters we ordered Crispy calamari with spicy salt, crispy prawn salt and pepper, chicken dumpling, Sichuan chilli chicken with peppercorn, lantern chillies and green onion, and deep fried chicken. All the starters were good with the younger lot having a special liking for the crispy calamari and crispy prawn. Sichuan chilli chicken was very good though it was not at all spicy in spite of having a red chilli label against it's name on the menu card.

For the mains, we had mixed sea food fried rice, golden garlic fried rice with chicken, pan fried noodles with chicken and vegetables along with the singapore style chilli prawn, stir fried chicken with spring onion and oyester sauce. The pan fired noodles was too good while the fried rice were pretty average mainly because they were so bland that we tried our best adding our own flavours to it with the help of the sauces available on the table. The chilli prawn was looking menacing red but when tasted it was not that scarily spicy.

For desserts we ordered crispy musk melon with vanilla bean ice cream and selection of various falvoured ice creams.  The crsipy musk melon was interesting.

A word or two must be said about the service too. As we were a group of 14, the waitress had trouble initally listening to out orders as each one had their own preferences. She looked a bit flustered, even losing her composure now and then without totaly letting it out. But her service improved as the time progressed. In the end we were impressed with ther service but would have been happier if she had been a bit recpetive than dismissive especially when we were ordering.

The prices are damn expensive but when you decide to come to such 5 rated star hotels then it is inevitable.  Overall, it was a good experince dining with China XO.

A Fine Experience at this Five Star, Fine Dine Chinese Restaurant in the Leela Palace Hotel. The restaurant is decorated with the grandeur and tastefulness one has come to expect from the Leela. Our table for four was beautifully laid out with fancy table cloth, Napkin, cold towel and the finest cutlery and crockery. Be it the scallop sui mai, the chicken dumpling the bbq chicken starter or the oyster chicken main course/fried rice every element of these dishes were perfectly balanced and rich in flavour and taste. A must visit for a luxurious experience.

We had the delicious sweet pork buns, prawn chive and hargow dimsums, followed by spicy squid rings, followed by chicken and mushroom noodles! Everything was well made and delicious!
I wish I had clicked some pictures! My love for Chinese goes stronger 💚
This place is located in beautiful Leela palace which is ofcourse very pretty! A perfect place for a romantic lunch.

Nothing better than a Sunday brunch at this place. It's my favourite restaurant in Chennai. The variety and quality of the dim sum is incredible. This one will set you back a few bucks, but to be honest, it's definitely worth it. All you can eat dim sum, great mains, and amazing soup too. What more could I ask for? Service is as you would expect from a 5 star hotel, excellent. I haven't tried this place on any other day. I brunch experience on Sunday's is too good to try it on any other day of the week.

This is the best CHINESE restaurant in chennai by far. It's on the basement floor with a warm entry. The restaurant is pleasant and best for dinner date. They have a huge variety of wines, cocktails and liquor. Their Lemon tea is a great starter. We had chicken fried rice, lamb bell pepper, soup, best dimsums, Kaun pao chicken, prawn teriyaki. Their speciality are the duck roast which is cut and served by the chef next to your table. Dessèrts are even better. Heard their dimsum set menu for the brunch is great must try.
Overall it was splendid. I will obviously come again.!

Delicate flavours, right seasoning and an warm and freindly staff made our experience at the China XO worth the exorbitant bill.
We ordered the usual Chinese fare Indian order. Manchow soup, Chilli chicken, Egg fried rice albeit with a burnt garlic flavour!
My daughters wanton soup was a bit messy, a wanton should not open up in a soup; but it choose just to do that.
They serve some excellent choices of Single Malts, I savoured the Dalwhinnie 10 yrs; good but not in the league of a Dalmore.
Would recommend the XO wholeheartedly.

Went there for the anniversary recently, and man it lived up to the hype! The dim sums were top notch. We had pork char sew pao and chicken dumplings, both excellent. For the main course we had a pan fried pork ribs, a kung pao chicken and a fried rice of some sort. Everything was top notch, the pork ribs were simply out of this world. For dessert, we had a flourless cake which was quite good, but the texture is going to be very subjective. I liked it, my partner didn't. But overall the experience was top notch (for comparison I have Yauatcha in Bangalore which felt like a waste of money for 2k per head). This meal was 5k for both of us, with no alcohol, but it felt like it was worth it as an indulgence. Now I MUST try their dim sum brunch.

Came to China XO for dinner and was floored. The food, service and ambience are really a notch above other star restaurants.

We had dimsums ( I couldn't get enough of them), the pork belly (  yum yum) and of course the main course. The food suggestions by the staff was impeccable. He took great care in explaining each dish and suggesting others based on the choices we made, which is what we expect of such service. Also must say he was a great sales person, he pitched to us the Peking duck and Sunday brunch, which hopefully I would return for soon. :)

I would recommend China XO to any one who wants to have a nice dinner with amazing food and service.

Have been hearing a lot about the famous dimsum brunch from here and finally got a chance to try it out. It was amazing. Still can't forget the juicy dimsums. Too bad I couldn't get seconds for any dish because my greedy self wanted to try out everything. The spread is huge. It's served to you on the table, which is more convenient if you're having a good conversation with your friends. The food just keeps coming. I tried 8 types of non veg dimsums. The char siew pao (steamed pork buns) were too good and steamed to perfection. Tried 3 starters and 2 dishes from the main course along with some noodles and rice. The flavours are simply wonderful. They also have a wide range of mocktails, ice teas and other drinks as part of the brunch. The alcoholic brunch includes some beautiful wines too. The desserts were very fruity and every fruit lover will love it. Being a non fruit lover I still loved the fried muskmelon with ice cream, fried to perfection.
The service was equally good as the food and we got a table with a lovely view in one corner.
Of course it's not quite economical to try out every other weekend but if you can save a few bucks and try out this place, it's really worth it. I don't regret any single penny spent here. Murv Vin

Had an opportunity to dine at this restaurant last night for a birthday dinner. We were not allowed to take our cake in - which is understandable. The staff were great in providing an alternative and arranged an in-house cake. So that was great.

Service all through the dinner was excellent. We ordered our courses one after the other and the timing of the service was perfect. Neither it was soon or late.

Food, however, could do a lot better. We had golden fried prawn dimsum and pork belly for starters. Fish, chicken and veg rice for the mains. The starters were yummy - pork belly was exquisite with crispy skin. The main course however was oily - the rice, fish and chicken. The portion sizes were great too - enough to fill the appetite.

I'm a huge fan of dimsums and this place by far offers the best in the city. The texture ingredients are just perfect. Try the assorted platter, you will get to taste all. The main course is brilliant as well. Its a place for authentic Chinese lovers but you can improvise according to your taste. The chef is very open to modify any dish as per your choice.
This place is best when you want to spend quality romantic time with your partner. The ambience and decor reminds you of a palace. They haven't overdone it. The seating arrangement is comfortable as well. The place is well lit.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. They help you to make the choice if your in a delima and boy they are good.
It is on the expensive side if you compare with others in the city but if you compare it with other metro cities its apt. A meal for 2 would cost you approx Rs 4000.
This place is worth going.

This is just the right place if you are looking forward for a romantic dinner with your partner... Well the ambiance and the decor  just the right choice for romancing and not to forget the Candlelight on the table. The service is awesome up to the standard as expected from Leela Palace. We ordered for a Garlic burnt chicken fried rice along with Teriyaki Tiger Prawns in Oyster and Ginger sauce, it was just the perfect combination. The rice was well cooked with some vegetables and the chicken pieces along with some red chillies which make the dish spicy. You should go for it if you love spicy food. The Teriyaki Tiger Prawns was just outstanding, the perfect ones which I had so far, it was well cooked and the prawns was well marinated in the sauce which brings out the flavor once it goes into you mouth. It was succulent and yummy. SEAFOOD Fans like me should try this. To end our meal on a sweet note, we had the Almond mousse or Jelly , it was so nice and tasty, just a bit similar to Panacotta but worth a try with some lichees on it. A place you should visit if you are ready to overlook at the prices on menu card... Happy Dining !!!

The ambience of the place impresses instantly with private seating areas, good decor and an impressive view. The service was impeccable and the waiter patiently explained each dish to us and gave us great suggestions as well. We went for the new year lunch special and the spread was lavish to say the least. Everything ranging from the dimsums to the hakka noodles were yummy and bursting with flavor. The desserts were good as well with the winner being the fried musk melon served with a scoop of ice cream. Definitely well worth the money. Some of the best dimsums I've tasted in the city.

This restaurant is class apart from the myriad Chinese platters that the city offers. Their dim sums have garnered huge fan following not without a reason, taste and texture of the dim sum are excellent. Their Lotus stem fritters are a must have. Unlike the usual sticky rice I've tasted elsewhere China XO offered a unique quality. Sited in the Leela palace need not comment on their hospitality, I'm a big fan.
To sum up this place offers one of the best Chinese cuisine in town if your ready to overlook the expense

Been here twice. Once for the a la carte and second for their brunch. The a la carte is good but portions are small and it can really cost you a fortune. The sad thing here is none of the red meats or sea food is sourced locally. So lot of the freshness in them is gone and the chef cannot do a thing about it. The lamb and beef dishes are super expensive. Their food though is very good. Service is excellent and ambiance the best in town.

I am rating this 5 mainly for the brunch. The brunch is again the most expensive one in town but it is also the best by a long margin. We went in without reservations and paid the price, we waited for over an hour before we got a table. Lesson to self, book a table well in advance next time. We were however served drinks during our wait and some dim sums too. The drinks are fantastic, we let the bartender surprise us and he did just that showcasing all his skills and we were mighty impressed. Imran is his name, ask for him and let him decide, you won't regret. The dim sums were real good too. Without a doubt the most authentic in Chennai which means it is 50% close to what you'll get in China and 80% close to what you will find in Singapore. Their brunch is off the menu meaning it is not a buffet spread but you can order what you like how many ever times you please. Drinks are good and very potent.

I would normally go lower on the ratings considering they use relatively less fresh ingredients and the cost is exceptionally high. But the place is like a palace, you are treated like royalty and served the best Oriental cuisine in Chennai. I would go again, burn my money and have the pleasure of treating my taste buds to something you cannot get anywhere else in Chennai.

Great place to dine in, specially if you like dim sums. even the main course did not disappoint. China XO was a far cry  from the usual Indianised Chinese food.  Excellent service and hospitality by Mr Percy Frances and the staff. Went with family and kids for my son's 9th B'day. Even the chocolate moose  B'day cake was to die for. But if you looking at a romantic setting for two, then look no further. The back drop and mood is all set with the beautifully decorated roses and shimmering candles. We will definitely visit again

I'm a huge dim sum fan and I recently had a chance to sample the dim sum lunch at the XO chinese restaurant at the Leela Palace. If you want to know the logistics of the meal, think sit-down buffet with an emphasis on dim-sums.

Straight off the bat, I think its important to establish that this is an expensive meal. Rs. 2000 per person for a non-alcoholic lunch and Rs. 2500 per person for a lunch with unlimited drinks.

The selection of dim sums is excellent! From char siu sou (which look like small versions of bakery buns with sesame seeds on them and are stuffed with sweet meat) to siu mei (with beautiful translucent wrappers stuffed with chopped shrimp) to bau (sweet steamed fluffy buns with delicious sweet pork filling) to hargao filled with whole small shrimp, to quite a number of other dim sums, the selection of dim sums was outstanding.

Theres no lack of options for vegetarians either with great shiitake mushroom, tofu, edamame and other fillings. There's also a reasonable selection of 3 sauces to accompany them, though for once I felt like having them all by themselves. If you love dim sums, then you can make yourself a very full meal with the dim sums alone.

Regarding the other food on offer, in my opinion it was mostly reasonably good chinese fare, with some of the staples that we have come to expect from chinese cuisine in India, such as 'that crispy lamb thing that could as easily be crispy anything covered in delicious sauce' or 'that chicken thing in a savoury sauce' and 'that fried rice thing'. I'm being dismissive but the regular menu, while definitely well executed, was not very inspired. There were some quite interesting starters, such as duck in plum sauce (a trifle sweet but with delicious duck meat) and pork belly (also in a sweet sauce), but, frankly, I had my eye on the dim sums.

I'm told that the peking duck is exceptional here, and that they have a chef devoted to the making of it. It may definitely be worth a try, but we didn't go for it. We were full enough (and wallets empty enough) as it is.

In summation, an amazing place for a dim sum lunch, provided you're willing to spend big for a rare afternoon out. Also, I think this plan is on only on Saturday afternoons, so you'd better check if you're planning on a Sunday sortie.

The restaurant is large, well appointed and has a pleasant light playing over it in the afternoon, if you're concerned about that sort of thing in the middle of a dim sum buffet.

Tip: If you're thinking of economising and just ordering 'one beer' with the non-alcoholic menu instead of the alcoholic menu, don't bother. It probably makes more sense, at to stick with the alcoholic menu if even you're (or think you're) only going to order one drink.
