Excellent customer service.ambiance is good.. must visit and have dinner. It's the one of best restaurants for family and they provide hygienic food
The place is very easy to notice. Try the famous sweet pongal... I bet the taste is Just awesome. Also the normal breakfast, lunch and dinner menus could be found here..... Speciality is the sweet pongal...
It was late night, looking for pure vegetarian restaurant to have dinner. Zomato suggested this place. Being nearby and tried and tested place, went with it. Place is easy to locate. Have space for parking in front of the restaurant. Ambiance is simple and decent. Service was quick and good.
We 4 ordered Idly, podi idly, rava dosai, podi onion uthappam, medhu vadai and Sweet pongal. Everything was good especially their sweet pongal which was hot and suiting our drizzling night. Sweet level is spoton. Pricing is reasonable. Value for money 💰. Overall satisfying experience.
Nice shop it has got excellent food quality and quantity is also good. So suggestions are to go and visit this place and have a fantastic time here.
Visited the place for tiffin at around 315pm today. Unfortunately, Medu vada and masala dosa weren't available so we ordered for Podi Idli, Onion Rava Dosa and Butter Dosa. All the items were decent. Dosas were crisp and the sambar along with Tomato chutney were a good match with the dosas. I am always very particular about Coconut chutney, and I was not pleased with the coconut chutney here, it was watery and tasted bland.
Our very first experience of proper south food was over here and it was amazing. The staff was very helpful & polite and they also served with utmost care. The food was awesome and we almost tried majority of their special dishes like Ghee Idli Podi and Sweet Pongal, both these items were too heavy n filling. The onion Uthappa was also too good.
The speciality over here is that, they prepare everything in loads of ghee. The meal full of rice is good experience and the portion is so much that it fills two people comfortably. A must try drink over here is Jigarthanda, a pure milk drink with some amazing combinations of sweetness.
In all a great place for proper traditional South Indian Food.
It was on my checklist to eat here when I was in chennai. As anticipated I liked Podi Idly, utappam and sambar. Jigarthamd(special) was really special....
A superb place to be. Yummy, authentic and mouthwatering delicacies of south Indian cuisine. The place is neat and tidy with super fast service. Not high on pocket. They serve hot food including sweet. Highly recommended for one and all.
Must try sweet pongal, Jigar thanda and podi idli😍
Our first breakfast in Chennai en route Pondicherry. Totally worth the detour. Devoured 4 idlis each. To top it all, yum filter kapi. A must visit
I am hard core non vegetarian. Every dish is amazing here.
Rava Dosa, Podi Idli, Sambar Idli, Pongal are my favourite.
And I hate Zomato policy of minimum 140 characters for posting a review :P
Stick to the podi idlis. Thier Podi idlis are very good. Other dishes are quite mediocre. It's also become very expensive recently.
A single ghee Podi idli is 30₹. Usually take home delivery form here. And the Dosa delivered looked nothing like Dosa. It was more like a rectangular piece of half baked dough.
But dining there is alright. Food is better.
I love this place.
The must haves for me here are idli with oil-podi and ghee roast.
Am not so much of a chutney freak...usually only go with the white (coconut) chutney. But have seen people relishing the other chutney varieties.
And no one makes Jigarthanda as tasty as theirs (Murugan Idli Shop)...it's the idealmost dessert.
Podi Idly with ghee : very unique concept nd yummy
Chutneys and sambar very great rs.17 per pc
Chakkarpongal: one of the best sweet to taste and u can indulge into the ghee and cashews :)
Rs.50
Ambience nd hospatality was okay
I never miss to have their jigardhanda whenever I visit their outlets.
Since I have not tasted the original madurai jigardhanda I am sure that it will taste as same as here.
Everytime they won't compromise on their tatse, it's like drinking a pure honey, very tasty and flavoursome
A must try dish , you can have it as a dessert after lunch or dinner or you just can have it alone
IN ESSENCE
Resuce place for the people who haven't tried the proper madurai jigardhanda
very prompt service and was delived even though it was raining heavily....
nice taste. but need to increase the quantity
The Raspberry Sorbet (Aarti Iyer)

In last 5 years, I have come to this restaurant N no. Of times. It's where we get our comfort food. Our trip is incomplete without coming here.
Ambiance~
Nothing special about the ambiance. It's simple, well lit and very neat. They have a small AC cabin. Normally we take that cabin as it's our get together place.
Food ~
Food quality is very good. Right from Idly, dosa, pongal, uttapam all are tasty. Filter coffee is good. Their quality is consistent and tasty.
Service~
The staff are friendly. Some are very slow and are not prompt.. that's probably the only drawback. Some of them are North Indians too so they don't understand the local language. But otherwise, they are doing a good job.
As I said before, we get our comfort food so this is definitely one of our favourites. And we will definitely recommend it to other people.
Yummy Food - Idli , Onion Uthapam , Ghee Dosa all tasted great with yummy chutneys and sambar.
Very few customers for a friday evening. Service was good. Got parking for car right in front of the restaurant
Suggest to try this place for delicious tiffin items.
quantity is very small for this cost
Authentic and delicious south indian food delivered on time. Ordered Podi idli, Ghee podi uttapam and curd rice. Simple and aromatic flavors and good quality food. Highly recommended for south indian food.
I have been here like four times
They have very quick service and also u don't need to wait long for your table
Here u have to share your table if your only two people or so I The crowd is there
They serve food only in banana leaf
Every single person has their own separate banana leaf
The must try here
Ghee podi idli (served as many u want here you can have single idli also no compulsion of two idlis per plate only quantity is seen)
Rava dosa
Curd rice
Paper ghee dosa very crispy and loads of ghee in it
great food and good manners by delivery boy
Went there this afternoon ,SIMPLY OUTSTANDING VALUE FOR MONEY!!Superb!!There was a long waiting period ,but it was worth it,Their IDLIS ARE MOUTH WATERING,FLUFFY,SOFT,FRESH AND PIPING HOT!!Yes they need to have more seating arrangement and expand a bit!!Very clean and hygienically kept washroom Can't wait to visit them again!!
I totally love the podi idlies and the bhais who give me extra podi when i ask them. I am also a huge fan of their ghee laden sakkara pongal.
I love to eat podli idli at MuruganMurugan Idli ...such a wonderful taste.. Especially nanganallur branch ..only car parking is headache..I suggest to visit this place
Love for their Ghee Podi Idly never fades.
This restaurant seems to be big in chennai!! They've got like 20 branches all over chennai!! The place is quiet decent!! They've got this magic here which makes their ghee podi idli like the most amazing breakfast ever!! The idli' s are like soaked in ghee and podi!! Omg this is like must try!! The cutneys here are good!! sambar is too good!! rava dosa is nice!! butter onion podi uthappam is good!! The sweet pongal is filled with cashews and pure ghee!! It's so good!!! The best place to have your breakfast!!
When in Chennai, you just cannot miss Murugan’s Ghee Podi Idlis. Served on a banana leaf with sambhar, coconut chutney, tomato chutney and garlic chutney, the fresh hot, soft idlis are soaked in desi ghee and gunpowder. We visited the outlet in Nanganallur on our short transit in Chennai, as it’s closest to the airport. In the past, I have also visited the original outlet in T Nagar - and from experience, Murugan keeps up the exceptional quality and unforgettable taste across its multiple outlets in Chennai.
except packaging, in case you ask for parcel, food is awesome.. especially podi idly.. and the 4 different types of chutney. you won't be able to find such anywhere else in the surrounding area
No one can beat there idli and dosa varieties. Little expensive, but he place is clean. Parking is a little concern during week ends. good place for south indian
Great place, just like any other Murugan idli shop
Good food and Ambience
Onion butter uthappam is a must try here
Chat items are not that great
Visited this place twice. The first- We planned to meet up at this place for our onward journey to Pondi and due to flight delays I ended up waiting for over 2 hrs for the others to join in! The courteous staff did not shoo me away! Haha. The second one was before departing from Chennai.
The way of serving is very interesting. They get Idlis, Vadas and Paniyarams into the serving area and go around asking people if they want some. This is on top of the orders they take. An intelligent way to bank on impulse purchases made by enticing visual (and to some extent- olfactory) senses.
Podi Idli is Podi Idli. Awesome awesome. The Podi is not too smooth and not too grainy. It is just right and tastes absolutely delicious with ghee!!
The Idli is soft and melts in your mouth. Amongst the many chutneys (Coconut, Mint, Coriander and Mustard) I liked coconut the best. Others didn’t quiet appeal to me (having tasted many awesome chutneys in Bangalore, I might have a bias).
The Paniyaram was okay and nothing great. The cheese Paniyaram has a small block inside and didn’t add any additional flavour to the dish.
Dosa was below average (Again, might have a bias due to the many exceptional dosas I’ve had in Bangalore)
Filter Coffee was great the first time with apt sugar and decoction. The second time around, it tasted more like ready made diluted coffee. (standardisation?)
Overall:
Food: 4/5.
Staff: 4/5
My Experiments With Food!!

I wonder why murugan idli has gotten such a low rating!!! I was supposed to fly into chennai on 26th jan morning and from there head to Pondicherry.. my return was also via chennai..both times I headed to murugan for breakfast and dinner respectively!!
Absolutely loved the ghee podi idli!! It was so soft it would melt in the mouth.. podi idlis are served with 4 diff chutneys here - coconut, pudina, dhaniya and tomato! Coconut and pudina chutney were just fantastic! Sambit was good too.. I enjoyed having sambar directly off the banana leaf!! The filter coffee was strong and not a lot of sugar! I liked it! Plain dosa was decent too!! They were serving paneeryarams in portion size of 3 pieces.. they had cheese paneeryaram which was nothing but a piece of cheese stuffed in the paneeryaram.. it was a solid piece.. didn't even melt while cooking.. so was not super impressed with that!
That being said I felt the place was super clean (including their hand wash area which I have noticed is dirty at most restaurants of this nature).. also like their style of serving.. forget the menu .. it is like a moving around buffet.. a classic mix of buffet and a la carte... the servers will walk around with a tray of idlis, wadas, dosas.. all freshly made! You find something appealing just call for it and you will be billed for it!! No time spent on ordering and waiting for the food to arrive! It is one of those super fast TAT restaurants😝
Must visit if in Chennai! Fairly close to the airport so visit when in transit like me!!
Visited your branch last year during our Chennai trip and were absolutely amazed at your lovely spread. The crisp dosas, variety of chutneys, hot food which is a huge plus and last but not the least, the very famous Jigarthanda. We had the podi ghee uttappam, the super soft idlis, masala vadai and masala dosas, everything tasted delicious. The podi uttappam was the star of the entire meal. Crisp Madras shallots cooked on a thick uttappam batter dusted generously with podi and drizzled generously with ghee just amazed us. Jigarthanda was the best drink ever.
Great vegetarian option for breakfast. About 10 mins from the Nanganallur temple.
The place has limited seating options.
So that can be a pain at times.
They have good variety of breakfast options.
Plan to be surprised with the options.
They are decent and hygienic food.
Great filter coffee as well.
Murugan Idly nanganallur is well known for a very long time. The place has a limited parking place for two wheelers and separate parking for cars in adjacent roads. The seating arrangement is divided as per four people and there is a separate party hall available on the first floor as well. The dishes were served hot and the taste was very good. The podi used in the dishes were especially tasty. Sweet Pongal particularly is worth mentioning because of its mouth watering taste. One can also try podi dosa, podi idly as well as kuli paniyaram. I personally felt that jigarthanda here was overhyped having tasted better ones from other famous places. But that is my personal opinion and many people really like the Jigarthanda served here. I also felt the pricing was slightly on the higher side. So an experience worth trying for vegetarian people when you are in the nanganallur area. Happy eating🤓

Murugan Idli is a well-known restaurant chain in India, and their veg tiffen varieties are nothing short of amazing. Here is a review highlighting some of the fantastic veg tiffen options available at Murugan Idli.
1. Idli Sambar: Murugan Idli is famous for its soft and fluffy idlis, which are served with a flavorful and aromatic sambar. The idlis are well-steamed, light, and melt in your mouth. The sambar is made with a perfect balance of spices and lentils, creating a delicious combination that is loved by all.
2. Masala Dosa: The masala dosa at Murugan Idli is a crowd favorite. The dosa is crispy and golden on the outside, while the inside is filled with a delicious and mildly spicy potato masala. It is served with coconut chutney and sambar, elevating the taste to another level. The dosa is perfectly cooked and has just the right amount of crispiness.
3. Pongal: Murugan Idli serves a delectable pongal that is cooked to perfection. The pongal is made with rice, lentils, and ghee, giving it a rich and creamy texture. It is seasoned with aromatic spices like pepper and cumin, adding a burst of flavors. The pongal is served as a wholesome breakfast or brunch option and is a comfort food for many.
4. Vada: Murugan Idli's vadas are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, just the way they should be. They are made with a perfect blend of lentils and spices, creating a delicious taste. The vadas are served with coconut chutney and sambar, making it a heavenly combination.
5. Upma: Murugan Idli's upma is another must-try veg tiffen variety. The upma is made with semolina and tempered with mustard seeds, curry leaves, and cashews, giving it a delightful crunch and flavor. It is served piping hot and is perfect for a satisfying breakfast or evening snack.
In conclusion, Murugan Idli offers an amazing array of veg tiffen varieties that cater to all taste buds. With their soft idlis, crispy dosas, flavorful sambar, and perfectly cooked pongal and upma, they have options to suit every palate. The quality and taste of the food at Murugan Idli are top-notch, making it a go-to place for a delightful vegetarian breakfast or brunch.
Authentic south Indian food with taste of murugan idli franchise.
This is though one of the small outlets, but has about 10+ tables. There is also parking outside.
Nice and friendly staff and good service.
One of the best vegetarian restaurants I have ever visited without doubts.
It is clean and have a nice atmosphere.
Service is good, staff members are really active and always ready to fill the platter immediately as soon as we request.
Their ghee podi idly was the ultimate dish what I had. It was really tasty. Their jigarthanda was also good, but not the best. I meant in dindagal thalappakatti restaurants jigarthanda is better as per my opinion.
Prices are not that much cheap comparing with the portions, just ok.
Overall nice place to have a south indian meal, highly recommended!
Best tiffins, specially idly and podi combination , must try in Chennai
One of the finest place in Chennai to have the authentic South Indian Food.
Murgan idli shop - one of my favourites for the authentic South Indian food. Dosas, Pongal (khara n sweet), jigarthanda (one stuff you don’t get in most places), the different variety chutneys all just makes the place even more admirable.
This time the coffee was not at its best, else I would have rated 5/5. The place is always neat and the team available for the service also does a decent job.
This Shop need not be suggested to any Chennaites.
This is a must visit. They will never disappoint you. 😊
I have heard about this south Indian food join but never got chance to experience one till recent.
During my Chennai trip this we try one for lunch.
We were not very hungry but just to experience we went. The restaurant is nice and clean with very modern culture feel.
We ordered Ghee podi roast dosa and filter coffee both were great at very reasonable prices.
Service was good and on-time staff is humble and helping.
Really enjoyed our experience here.
Must try Murgun Idli if you are looking for good south meals.
One of the Best Authentic taste of South Indian Food, Chutney are Special, Once you have it, You cannot Forget. I am thinking to Visit Chennai Just for Murugan Idli Restaurant.
