The best breads offered in town..My new favourites are the sour dough beetroot and potatoe. A must visit for their chocolate cookies pizza slices(mushroom and feta) and a range of spreads and pickles too....Always excited to go buy stuff from there.😊
The best kind breads and then some more goodies...We walk in for a loaf of bread and walk out happily with half the bakery. The orange raisin bread in particular is an all time favourite - perfect for bread pudding. This cozy working bakery and its staff (who recognise the regulars and their orders) is always welcoming with a wholesome vibe.
Delicious grilled chicken melt sandwich with a piping hot filter coffee! Strange combo but perfect for the Chennai winter. Love OMBC!
Every time I walk into OMBC the first thing I look for are the Dark Chocolate Cookies! They are every chocolate person's delight and it's a must have..The banana bread and carrot cake are my other favourites..So happy that I can get them in Nungambakkam now :)

Old Madras Bakery is the best deli in Chennai for Country Loaf, Bagels, Focaccia , Croissant, Pizza, Pita bread and anything that you feel fresh bread.
My usual place to have cappuccino and grilled chicken salad. Have tried many items from this place. They have freshly baked breads. Complete hygienic place. Service is good , but they take pretty long preparation time. I usually spend time there to feel the serenity.
Great place and good ambience. I liked the way they had set up the place and the food which we ordered was tasty. I would recommend the people to check out this cute little place

The cakes and the breads here are amazing. The salads were refreshing too!! And there are a wide variety of drinks like raw pressed juices and even some of their own to accompany your food.

If you have lived abroad especially Europe and miss the variety of bread, this is the place to go. They have a great collection of bread, and spreads to go along with it. My personal favorite here is the good old cream cheese bagel.

Now this in top of bakery/Gourmet in Chennai to start with. As u enter the smell n flavours of gourmet or cheese or all the bakery hits u like so much that it tempts u just have something from this place. I just got a simple pain au Chocolat,which is extremely tender soft n melts into mouth,the puff is so smooth u think wat i had just now is amazing,as it's top of baking essentials to say. Old Madras Baking Co.has some mouth watering other croissants try over when I go next time.
One of the best places in town to get a regular loaf of bread, or a quick cuppa coffee or a vanilla muffin. Their pastry is excellent, as are the three cheese and paneer puffs. Oh, and not to forget their absolutely delightful croissants, hot and fresh and cheesy. We've made a habit of getting all our baker needs from this good old baker.

My mom has never been a fan of baked goodies as far as I've known, and she ended up loving everything I ordered at OMBC. It's that good!
Ambience: I like the Alwarpet branch the best though the Nungambakkam branch is spacious. The wooden interiors, metal chairs and the smell of freshly baked loaves are welcoming!
Service: The service is quick and they are very friendly!
Food: Their Blueberry Danish and Parisian Croissant are must-haves. All their pastries are light, buttery, fluffy and oh-so-delicious! I've had the luck to grab some Profiteroles while they were still there, and they were the best Profiteroles I've ever had in Chennai.
Their Custard Bun and Custard Danish were pretty good too. For all the chocolate fans out there, they serve Nutella Brioche and Pain au Chocolat, generously loaded with chocolate.
If you have a liking for bakery pizzas, try their Smoked Chicken pizza. The pizza is sparse on chicken but it's loaded with cheese. The Grilled Chicken Melt sandwich and Garlic Toast were yum!
Brownie points for the awesome filter coffee that was served in the cutest tumbler.

Craving for a plain sour bread walked into this place. Ah! The aroma as soon as you enter, get ready to indulge at once! They are all fresh and man, the varieties; I can go on and on about this place!! :D Most of them were sold out cause we went close to the closing time. Their custard Danish pastry takes you to a whole new world! Carrot cake was spot on! Focaccia bread was good but I’ve had better ones. Gotta try the rest.

Literally the best cookies I have ever eaten. Chocolate chip and double chocolate anyway. I can't speak to the oatmeal raisin. The sourdough bread (and especially potato rosemary sourdough bread) are excellent too. As with all bakeries, the goods are better the earlier in the day you go.

Hands down one of the best bakers in town! Just walking down TTK road, you get an amazingly tantalising smell of freshlt baked bread, everyday thanks to these guys! And when you walk in, its so totally worth it! Their selection of breads is amazing, each one yummier than the next but I have a few favourites. If you enjoy a cup of tea, then you need to buy their tea cakes - They are just out of this world. And of course their cookies - an example of what an ideal cookie should taste like. A must must visit!

Privileged to have travelled the world and experienced some of the most scintillating food, and I can positively affirm these to be by far the BEST pain au chocolat (chocolate croissants) Ive had till date, anywhere (Alwarpet outlet).. experience heaven in these!!! The quality of chocolate is pristine and the puff pastry simply melts. Their custard danishes and madras coffee are equally gorgeous. They win you with the very first impression: the smell of freshly baked bread (and the variety is immense), wooden European interiors and a lit furnace and staff doing the job. A beautiful morning starts with the Old Madras Baking Company. Youve won a regular when in town!! Lovely staff, fabulous music, locations are several and the pricing is simply perfect.

I think so for the first time am rating any place 5/5 because every time I go here i fall in love again and again...I was introduced to this place last week...And i have already visited this place thrice because this place is just amazing and very near to Spaarc institute where I go for my Physio sessions..They have a huge spread starting from muffins,danish pastries,beverages,variety of breads(bagels,milk bread ,burger buns,slider buns ,baguettes,foccaciaetc),sandwiches,chocolate cake,fresh cheese,apple cake ,cinnabombs,banana bread and the list goes on..And i have tried all their sandwiches(ham and cheese,egg sandwich,beef sandwich) except the tuna will try it soon...Other than that I have tried their apple cake, chocolate cake,vanilla muffin,nutella something,cheese danish,nutella brioche,mini brownies,choco chip muffin.Everything is just perfect in taste and am sure seeing the spread only will make you drool.They also have different dips, seasonings,oil,wheat pastas etc.A perfect place with a nice ambience,courteous 2-3 staffs,minimal sitting area,droolworthy food,worth the price perfect for a foodie person like me
I'm not a fan of having bread based food but Madras baking company has changed my mind. Tried Wheat bread and Sandwich and both were good. Also Brownies was delicious here.
After dinner a restaurant nearby we happened to cross by this place and we thought of just going inside to just take a peak. The fresh aroma of bread made us sit there and order something for dessert. We ordered their carrot cake and it was fantastic. A layering of cinnamon powder on the top made the cake even better. I completely fell in love with the cake and finished the whole loaf for myself. I liked it so much that I got one packed for my roomies and had half of that as well once I reached home.

Very smart and simple set up, limited selection of items which are of high quality and this is a bakery that'll pull you in repeatedly.
When I was working in Hyderabad and I'd asked my manager what she wanted from Chennai, she asked for the banana bread and carrot cake from OMBC without a second thought.
Though I had been aware of OMBC since it started, that was my context to step in to the store.
After purchasing the two for her, I decided to get the chocolate chip cake for myself. After that, there was no going back.
I have been a frequent visitor to this place ever since.
The chocolate used in the Tiny Chocolate cake is rich and heavenly. That one secret ingredient will get the crowds flowing into this bakery.
The cake tastes best when heated in the oven for 30 seconds. It tends to get the moisture back.
The carrot cake, with a tinge of cinnamon flavor and the Banana bread, their bestseller, are great too.
In one of my visits, I got to try the Old fashioned chocolate cake, only because the chocolate chip wasn't available, and they use the same chocolate in this cake as well so it couldn't go wrong.
The three cheese melt is one of my latest favourites here. It's made with foccasia bread and the texture of the bread after it's toasted with cheese loaded into the sandwich is out of the world. I initially decided to only take a bite when my friend ordered, but once I tasted it, I just couldn't stop myself from eating half the sandwich.
Most, if not all the items are conducive for take away.
The cakes last 3-4 days without any change in texture.
They also seemed to have nice salad options. The service is very good and they have one table with multiple chairs to dine on.
The price is optimal for the quality of the ingredients used and the location can't get better.
This place is a great idea and has been very smartly executed.

One of the best places to buy baked items. Their Crossaints and Danish Pastries are delightful. All of them are always made fresh each day at their own place. So freshness is guaranteed. Their assortment of sandwiches and range of bread are also amazing. A careful selection of products made by premium brands to go with their own homemade items completes the experience. My most favorite bakery in the city. Have been here countless times. Never failed to impress. Have tried almost all their pastries, freshly baked breads and sandwiches. The only issue over here would be the lethargic staff's. But still have given the full points for the concept and quality of the product.

As far as the ambience is concerned, its a 3.5/5 because if there are 10 people visiting at the same time there's no room for them to get seated. Otherwise everything is fine.
They are a baking company but they do provide some quick bites like sandwiches,etc at their Nungambakkam outlet. But here at the alwarpet outlet they have restricted themselves to pastries. I tried their so called "Cinnabomb" and the "blueberry danish" which were very good. Specially try their "Cinmabomb". I would rate them a 4/5.

A must-try bakery. blueberry danish and banana bread are simply fabulous. The chicken puff has such a unique-tasting filling!! the Baguette was fresh and crunchy, followed their freeze tip!!

The vanilla pound cake , carrot cake, and banana cake is my top favorite ones. I tried the corn spinach pastry and nutela one too both were nice .
And finally wanted to eat the grilled chicken sandwich and so I did ..it was yummm..what a nice evening snack and the next time went there and had a mushroom sandwich and orange juice for lunch. I really liked the young staff who served me with a smile on on their faces everytime .

I was initially confused on options as everything looked and smelled fresh. I ordered the Danish custard , custard bun , banana bread and tuna sandwich. I am a big fan of custard buns or puffs.. so when I found them here it was nostalgia ... I found the quantity of custard a little less than what I am used to in a bun. But it was worth the money spent . Will check in again for sure.

Been to both the outlets , I absolutely love the breads and condiments from old madras baking company. Can't think of another place that sells fresh baked baguettes in town . Also , Quite reasonably priced everyday loafs as well .
Also , try their custard danish if you haven't already. The Jyo's and other condiments sold off the shelf are pretty good as well .
If you haven't been here yet , but you love breads , you are missing something huge ! get here already !

Went into get something to munch for the evening. Got 3 Blueberry Danish and 2 Jalapeno bagel.
The bagel was OK with good chunks of jalapeno. Was a little chewy however was good to dip into a mushroom soup.
The Blueberry Danish was excellent. Yummy Blueberry jam in the middle of the Danish which was crispy on the outside and juicy inside.
Total bill of Rs 310. The Blueberry Danish is a must try.
Well have heard a lot about this place and wanted to see what its got. So i visited late on a week day to find that most of the dishes were sold out already. And the place has seating for about 10 people but has this excellent wooden decor which gives a good feel. Other than cakes, wraps, sandwiches, croissants etc. They also have a variety of breads, cheese, lots of jam, and other such stuffs that make us want to taste them. So it's definitely a place where u can get ur evening snacks as well as other bakery cravings.
The service is also very good and you would definitely have to visit this place early in the evenings.
I reached home to find goodies from this place!
1) lava cake- the best gluten free cake ever! Tasted so perfect with the melted chocolate in the center.
2) banana bread- this is the best so far! Couldn't stop eating! Honestly
3) multigrain bread loaf- a family of 4 finished it in a day! So soft and delicious, I could literally see the difference between the breads we buy at stores and this!
4) mozzarella cheese- the first every cheese my family has finished within a single week! Just melts in the mouth!
5) the blueberry cake- kind of din like the buttercream, but tasted good on the whole!
I am going to stop eating out and buy ingredients to cook from this place! Whoever came up with this concept, KUDOS! We love it 😍

I wanted to try their Red velvet Donut and Nutella Brioche both were sold out.. we were at the shop by 4pm..
We tried cinnamon bomb ( which is basically a small roll) and blue berry danish both were outstanding.. this is the only place where cinnamon rolls is made just the way it is.. and just out from the oven.. loved every bit of it lip smacking..
Banna cake winner of the day .. you can see the blackish brown shreds of banana fibre running through the cake my 3yr old loved it

The types of cheese and meat are mind boggling... you get *EVERYTHING* here!! From breads to different kinda of sauces and jams and sandwich spreads... This place has it all. The staff are very polite and courteous although they are a bit slow.. All in all, this is a very good place to pick your minor groceries.. and oh yes! Must try the chicken salad!! Old Madras Baking Company is a pretty up market bakery and a popular hit especially with the elitists. They have a wonderful array of bakery items which will entice you with all it's lustre. They also have other nice stuff such as cheese, pickles, olives, sandwiches, milk shakes and other condiments.
The ambiance is fairly nice especially with the woodwork sitting acting as an interesting charm. There is just a single big table which you share with other passengers but this is an outlet more ideal to pack your stuff home.
They have a nice fare of baguettes, croissants and pastries. We had a raspberry tart and a cinnamon roll and both of em tasted marvellous. The pinkish color of the raspberry was totally apoealing making us order that and it definitely lived up to it's looks by being great on taste. The cinnamon roll with flour sprayed along was another winner and the sweetened essence of the cinnamon was truly hitting.
The shortened visit was quite appetising indeed. The rates are quite on the northward trend and looks acceptable as it's not your usual run of the mill bakery and their is a class associated with it. There is an aura of neatness and freshness to it. Will surely pick up a few more things perhaps on my next visit here.

I came in here because I was curious. The bakery has a full wooden decor, and looks elegant in a homely way. The cars that are usually parked out are BMW's, Audi's and the likes. The first time around I ordered for a banana bread, which is something I didn't see in the top menu board but figured they should have. The did and it was yummy buttery goodness that melted in my mouth. The second time I ordered for a Bagel and Cream Cheese - Everything and a Salted Donut with Nutella. Both were a hit and wow, I think I'm gonna be a regular at this place. Really impressed with the food, the décor and the staff.
A little on the expensive side, but I'm willing to pay if it's gonna make me smile. This place does.

A amazing bake shop having a wide selection of breads and baked goods. The service was good and the bagels were awesome. The red velvet donut was a different experience completely.
The best place ive been in the recent times. 😍 Amazing varieties of breads and confectionery. The one glitch here is that there is only place for 4-6 people to sit at a go.
Their pantry has a wide range of breads, cheese, and other ingredients. The prices are a little high, but should be worth the price.
We had the beagles, a red velvet donut, a feta cheese pizza and a few yoghurts. The feta cheese pizza was the best. Felt like eating more of it.

This has been an absolute favourite for over a year.The fact that it is so close to college just makes it's all the more better.The gang always popped in for their to-die Danish custard and the variety of puffs they have.The three cheese and chili puff is a personal favourite! Their cake loaves are divine but a tad too oily.Their deli section also looks delectable.

#danish custard and Danish nutella- good. Crispy buns that contained appropriate fillings. They were good.
#chicken tart- it looked like a super empty tart that had a spacious centre. Where is the filling? Its only when one takes a bite that one call taste chicken. And it's not quantity rich. Bad!
I wanted to try nutella brioche. Unfortunately, it wasn't available today!

The place is small but with lot of varieties. Donut was okay but I loved the carrot cake and will love to try more soon. Looking forward for more.. And please arrange a parking space.

Was here for a quick snack.. Hasn't much parking space as it's jus on the main road.. Max. 2 cars!. You'd walk in and start wondering if you could actually dine here. Cuz they only have 1 six seater table in the middle. They have high placed chalk boards reading out their menu of salads and sandwiches and some desert too. A separate table holding sweet goodies and croissants , another opp it serving you d meat to buy.. Not the regular ones you'd find anywhere-,it has different kinds of sausages ,. Bacon, salami and so on. Also another rack with sause. We had a sandwich with cheese and ham. Boy was it yum,!!, ,2 croissants -,buttery and hot and one nutella dessert.. Didn't Have much nutella though.. On the whole -was quite pricey ...but also great tasting good. Give it a try👍
Visited this place recently. Its one of the famous eateries in TTk road. The parking was bit of a problem,they have a very small space. The interiors looked subtle, mostly wood work. The seatings were very limited.
They have an intriguing display of baked products ranging from breads, cakes, doughnuts, puff, muffins etc. I just had a roasted mushroom sandwich and a red velvet doughnut. We get to choose the type of bread for the sandwich, they had focaccia, garlic, and panini. The sandwich tasted great, it had abundant pieces of mushroom in it, especially our option of garlic bread kind of accentuated the taste a bit more. The doughnut was enjoyable, nothing unique though.
They also had a lot of other products like bottled pickles, root beer, cheese varieties etc.
The Bill was around 340INR, totally worth it.

Location & Parking: On the lanes of TTK road, it shouldn’t be hard to spot the place and you shall rest your vehicle before the outlet.
Ambience: I love the wooden work and the simplicity.
Taste & Variety: They go simple and crisp when it comes to variety, it’s their for which I mostly end-up. I took a take away, the order was Baguettes, Danish Custard and Parisian Croissant. Loved the freshness of the breads; everything was a delight. The croissant were soft and baked to perfection. If freshness is what you’re looking for then this place should do some justice.
Quality & Quantity: The freshness quotient makes the quality outstanding. Each bread differs in size and they shall feed one or more well-enough.
Service: It is self-service and no complaints there.
Price: The bill for the above three items is Rs.225 INR. Its definitely on a higher side and anything that is fresh does come for the same price across the town; this makes it not a place to dine frequently.
Old Madras Baking Company, is one place I would head for different bread varieties and for their freshness.
The best freshly baked breads in town .. their muffins too were yummy and was tough to stop with just one. Hoping they open more outlets and serve their yummiliacious stuff all over the city.
A wonderful aroma greeted me as I entered old Madras baking company. I had already high expectations as soon as I entered, and the food lived up to the taste. The bread has a distinct taste of its own, and it was a delight to eat the the oven baked bread. The desserts and sandwiches were pretty good as well.
First time to this awesome baking heaven after hearing so many good reviews. Ordered a chicken makhani sandwich for myself and roasted beef sandwich for my brother. They provide with choices of bread. Chose focaccia for both the sandwiches. Too around 10 mins for the sandwich to come.
And OMG!! The chicken makhani sandwich was the best sandwich I've tasted in all my life. I don't eat beef so I really didn't get to taste the roasted beef sandwich. But the brother said it was good. He tasted the chicken sandwich and approved that it was better than the roasted beef ;)
The sandwich was perfect grilled with a lot of filling inside. The best I've ever had. Will definitely be back. ^_^
Place has a wonderful atmosphere with yellow lights and wooden interiors, the old times bakery aesthetic was beautifully brought out. The options available were scarce at the time of our visit(on a tuesday evening). Location is not the most convenient to reach by walk, but there is a bus stand just a few feet away from the store. No car parking either. Two wheeler parking available.
Must go. Nice pastries and cakes. Latte and etc available too.
If you love the smell of freshly baked bread, this place is akin to heaven!
The decor is rustic and beautiful, and the diverse variety of bread, cold cuts, pastries and other baked items showcases their culinary art.
I loved their Danish pastry and the Portugese custard pie! Service was top notch.
Would definitely recommend for quality bread and baked items. Will surely revisit to try other items on their menu!
Great quality Crossiant, Pastry and Bun. Many other bakery items on offer. Coffee is unncesarily costly and pretty average. Danish pastry was the most delicious one on menu. Danish bun was great as well. Every item is freshly baked and served and you might even find fast moving items out of stock and it may take upto 1.5 hours for the next batch to be ready.

Welcomed by the good aroma of fresh breads , I got Triple cheese sandwich and chicken sandwich. They were fresh and layered up hygienically (We can actually see them making it) . Hot chocolate and coffee were not that great . Not enough parking space . Bit on the pricey side !
Nice coffe place and bakery found all over Chennai. I tried the Victorian Sponge cake and coffee it was around 200 rupees. A really cute place to celebrate something or go with friends. Close to The nagar and many other areas

After reading many good reviews, decided to check out this place on a pleasant summer day. The aroma of this bakery is awesome.
I realised how poor the quality of breads are, after tasting their breads. I would make sure to go to this place again and again and again.
The ambiance is fairly nice especially with the woodwork sitting acting as an interesting charm. There is just a single big table but this place is more ideal for takeaways.
Ordered butter croissant: They just melted in their mouth.
Garlic toast: Immense pleasure while tasting with sauces.
Margarita pizza: Too good though it seems very pricey.
Banana bread: This was the best so far. Couldn't stop eating honestly
Also tried their hot chocolate which was just different from that of others.
I just walked home with total satisfaction. Cheers to OMBC!!
If I could have every item they offer, I would! They have a mouthwatering menu, and the food lived up to it! Must-visit! Don't miss the delicious Danish Custard Croissant...
A great coffee place in Chennai. Their coffee is great. I guess it's a dark roast. Try the black coffee and the cappuccino.
There isn't a lot of place to sit down and enjoy your coffee.
The Chocolate chip cookies are to die for! Definitely a must-have. The pound cake is also quite nice. Overall, a good bakery for not too-over-the-top cakes.
Loved the pies , apple, mushroom. Cinnamon bomb etc Triple cheese sandwich was also good
