The ambience and food is good, the food is served very quickly.. I had chicken soup which is really good with fresh chicken in it, 2nd chicken satay with a dip (the dip is really yummy and a good combo) , 3rd chicken murtabak which has a layer of parotta stuffed with omlet and chicken (worth for quantity), 4th plain parotta with mutton gravy (parotta is really excellent crispy)

1st time visiting a Malaysian Cuisine and I got melted with their dishes. Nasigoreng was a top notch.

Squid fry was the best I would say, it was so crispy and tasty.

Tried honey chicken too, too flavory and made the taste buds burst.

Finally coming to the satay.. Tried both mutton and chicken, it was yumm along with their Malaysian styled sauce made of honey and garlic was the perfect combo for a starter.

Best food I had in recent times.

I would suggest squid fry is a must try food.

Dishes to try here, chicken satay, chicken stuffed parotta, egg stuffed parotta & here the speciality was the sambhar for parotta instead of any gravy. A very big joint. All good but for the restroom in the first floor.

I was craving for North Indian option and was looking for Alacarte options near me ,where I find this . It's located in Pondy Bazar opposite globus .
The place is huge and has Very big outdoor sitting and indoor with Ground and First floor.
They have done a face lift since it was not as good looking as it is now .
They have multiple cuisines and huge selection from Malaysian food.
We ordered for chicken Satay as appetiser and Mushroom soups.
Main course we had Bhuna Gosht ,butter naan ,garlic naan and ,Malaysian chicken and egg fried rice. Portion size was good enough and taste was also good.
Butter naan was better as compared to Garlic naan since butter naan was crispy and garlic naan became soggy. Also they served breads in an open plate which should be changed into a covered basket to keep the breads warm .
Price was very reasonable and service was good.
They should think about some music since it looks very plain while dining.
On the whole had a good experience and also recommendable.

I was feeling hungry so I wanted to order from this restaurant since it had been some time since I had eaten there.

I ordered Nasi Goreng Ayam-I liked it very much and there were around 5 to 6 medium sized fried chicken pieces in it which were with a bit of bones in them.

Mee Goreng Ayam-It was quiet good but not favourite because it had a bit of burnt taste in it.

Chicken Murtabak - This is the first I tried this and I was impressed. The stuffing was having chicken pieces and some masala with it.I had it without any gravy and the filling was very tasty and it was quite good.

Overall I think this place is value for money.

Nasi kandar pelita is easy to find spot in Tnagar. It is one of the finest resto serving authentic malayasian cuisine.I haven't tried it before and I only know few of them because of googling malayasian cuisine.

So it has an outdoor spot, spacious ground floor with cooking area on left and fancy staircase which will lead you to first floor. Menu card has malay dishes with description provided in english. Waiters can help you in choosing the dish also.

Sup kambing/Sup kambing kaki : Hot and spicy soup with mutton or paya as per your customization. The flavour will hit you right across your throat and definitely apetizing your tummy. It is definitely must have dishes here.

Chicken satay: Chicken piled up in a stick and your provided with peanut sauce. Peanut sauce is amazing.Chicken dipped in the peanut sauce is a heaven to eat.

Mutton sambal/chicken sambal: Plate filled with rice, cabbage saute, boiled lady's finger given with aromatic curry which will have mutton/chicken pieces. This is a refreshing lunching option available. Your also provided with complementary curry having a tangy taste, probally fish based which goes very well with rice.

Nasi goreng: Yup tasted well. Malayasian version of chicken fried rice.

Ais Kachang: It has sprout beans layer at the bottom, followed by grainy ice topped with vanilla icecream. You have cherry and sauces to go with it. It is definitely exciting to try it but not my favourite.

It costed us 1659 bucks for the above mentioned dishes and it is worth it.Definitely must visit place and I will be coming for malayasian food craving.

One of the famous places in the city for malay cuisine. The ground floor and outdoor seating reminds one of the little joints found in malaysia. Serving style and the items on the menu are malaysian but the taste could be better. Best dishes tasted so far are Mee goreng, kwayteow and of course their iced Milo! The service however is slightly slow with the waiters serving wrong dishes. Overlooking that a pretty decent and affordable place to try malay food.

Overall very good place. Friendly staff. Gets busy during lunch. But you will not have a problem because they have a lot of seats and friendly staff to serve you.

In spite of having been there in Pondy Bazaar ‘n’ number of times I had not noticed this restaurant at all. Naturally. Because from outside it doesn’t look like a restaurant at all. The name, boards, place, nothing really fancy but thanks to our extended shopping in a nearby store we went there at 3 PM. Even at that time it was crowded.

The place has a separate outdoor area and indoor area divided into two, ground and first floor. The stairs leading to first floor look like the ones from yesteryear. It reminded me severely of the spiral building in Trivandram called the Indian Coffee House. The Menu looked quite different and the place was a no non sense one. Only problem was the hasty waiters, at least the one who came to our place. May be it was 3 PM and they were in a hurry to close down, that’s why. Also it’d have been better if there had been explanation for each food, as we were unaware of most and had to rely on the waiters to get what’s what.

We thought of soup but didn’t. Ordered a Sotong Goreng (Squid Fry). The quantity was huge and tasted very well. Deep fried and right amount of spices. Among main course Parotta (Roti Canai) was nice and fluffy. Onion Parotta (Roti Bawang) was very good. I had never had onion parotta before and was quite amazed by it. We got a Dal like thing with brinjal in it. When asked the waiters, they said it contains mutton bone too. It tasted unique and very good. For sides we ordered an Udang Kecil (Small Prawns) which was superb and the pieces were so soft. In fact the softest I’ve ever had. Finally, Nas Gor Ayam, a typical Malaysian Chicken Fried Rice was again good but I generally don’t like Nasi Goreng as the rice is hard and both chicken pieces as well as rice are too oily. So I didn’t have much here too. But considering with other dishes, I think this too would be authentic.

Long time favourite. Went there after 10 years. Their customer service was very good.

Had a Kal Dosa and Chicken curry. The Dosa was soft and chicken in the curry was very tender. Really Enjoyed it.

Cold Milo tasted like the ones you have in Malaysian street food shops but I personally like the thick Nasi and Mee version better.

Myself being a singaporean I always wanted to find a pocket friendly Malay restaurant just for the mee goreng and nasi lemak but this one restaurant was Soo cheap as well as the exact same taste of Malay food. I ordered the chicken satay, nasi lemak , and mee goreng. The satay was mind blowing and the same goes for mee goreng and nasi lemak although I would have wanted a fish in nasi lemak but never mind we were already full.. Do go Nd try..

I had been to their Kula Lampur branch, after 7 years, visited their Chennai branch for lunch.

Paya soup was simply outstanding, it tasted similar to the big bowl soup in KL, we as a five tried it and none were disappointed.

Squid deep fry and prawn 65 as starters we're good, prawn was not that fresh but squid was too good, kids made me to order one more plate.

Ordered
Nasi kandar, Mee for kambing, Roti pisang, Veg meals, Nattu kozhi kulambu, Nasi lemak, Ayam goreng, Sotong goreng, Milo tatik, Teh o Lim panas .

Bill Amount was 2889

Overall it was a enjoyable lunch with my family, will certainly visit again.

I wanted to try different cuisine and find this Malaysian restaurant near GRT grand. It has some good Malaysian dishes with a desi touch.
I ordered mushroom soup to start with. It was good. It had the typical Malaysian creamy taste. Neither sour or bitter. Then I ordered parata and quail curry which he says was special. Quail curry was good but bit too spicy for my liking. It was more Indian than Malaysian. I also got a gravy with parata.
Overall, it was good food but bit to spicy than what I expected. I hope a Malaysian would concur to that :)

Came here for dinner, we were 4 of us. Although I have been coming to this outlet for years, I've only decided to review this restaurant now.

Chicken satay - 5/5, authentic tasting chicken, bpeanut sauce and presentation.
Malabar Paratha - 5/5, all though a lot of restaurants offer Malabar Paratha, this is the best I have had hands down.
Banana Paratha - 5/5, so good and its slightly sweet because of the banana.
Kal Dosa - 5/5, a thick version of a dosa. You get served 2 with an amazing set of chutneys.
Nasi goreng Ayam Chicken - 5/5, Malay style chicken fried rice with fried chicken pieces.
Nasi goreng veg - didn't try
Malay Chicken gravy - yum gravy to go with the paratha.
Veg gravy - a delicious thick gravy that complimented the parathas.
Dessert
Ice Kachang - 5/5, best ice Kachang on town.

Authentic Malay food at its best and for this reason I've given it a 5*

Here is a place that has done well over time , while so many others have come and gone.  The secret to their success is obvious -- good Malaysian food, in a menu that wisely includes South and North Indian dishes, including, at tea time,  idli. dosai, vadai . All served in a simple ambiance at very reasonable prices.

Our meal consisted of  the chicken satay (pretty good and came with a slightly sweetish peanut sauce),  mutton murtabak, (very good).

We also had rice with mutton sambal, rice served with a tasty mutton curry ,vegetables (an interesting steamed ladies finger and spinach) and papad. IA pretty good meal by itself.

We rounded the meal off with a passable  falooda (many other places in town serve better)

The  good and efficient service was marred by my food coming to the table while my wife was half way through her meal. How difficult is it to serve both together ?

The portions are quite good and the prices were very reasonable.

Been to this venue a handful of times, and they do not disappoint.

Interiors are very basic and the menu have a good selection of Malay and Singaporean Indian food stuff on it along with North Indian and South Indian selection.

If you want an idea of what they are serving, just walk upto the kitchen and have a look, there is a small selection of items on there.

Highly recommended to friends and foes alike!

Malayasian restaurant in chennai! The parotta and chicken curry were my favourites. The nasi lemak meal was good.... but the staff didn't inform us about the fried chicken leg (ayam goreng)that they served along with the meal was actually chargeable(rs.155 😶) and it's taste was totally bland. They serve extra gravy if u ask them and that's a good thing. The bread halwa was not the best... and the falooda was okayish!

Nasi Kandar pelita - After shopping in Tnagar, we decided to dine in at Nasi Kandar pelita for dinner.

Staffs were very courteous, They had the patience to guide us through the menu and recommend some of the dishes that were their speciality and that we would like. There is nothing to complain about their ambience.

Moving on to our orders :

Satay 6 sticks chicken : 6 chicken Satay sticks with gravy/sauce.I liked the taste of chicken with the sauce. The chicken tasted bit sweeter when had with sauce. This was a Malaysian dish so I wasn't sure if that's how it should taste. But the chicken was cooked well.4/5

Chicken garlic kebab: This was little Bland with garlic flavour. This was served with mint chutney and when tasted with the chutney had good taste. 3.5/5.

Koayteow gorang udang : Prawn flat noodles, Quantity would be sufficient for one person or 2 people if they are light eaters. This dish is a must try if you visit this restaurant.4/5

Schezwan chicken fried rice : We had requested them to make it to medium spicy.Nothing complain about it.Comparing it with other places where they serve schezwan fried rice this was lacking the taste.3/5.

Now that it is Malaysian restaurant , I would suggest that you stick to Malaysian dishes.Overall, Decent restaurant with good food.

Entered the restaurant with the intention of having Malaysian food, but seeing super puffed steaming idli on the next table, ordered idli and followed it by Ghee roast dosai loved the sambar, spicy tangy tomato and onion chunky chutney and fresh coconut chutney. My family ordered chicken stuffed parota and mee goreng with prawns. Parota was good but it was served with sambar which seemed odd. Mee goreng had more of egg than prawns ( five to be exact). Overall not bad but they can do better. Their south Indian chef seems to be doing better than the Malaysian cusine chef.

Those who visited Pelita a few years ago will understand when I say that it serves comfort food -- Be it the mutton Satay, Aatukaal soup, the 'Nasi Khandar' Combo (my fave is the Fish combo), Roti Canai or the Banana Parotta

This place used to be top notch in its formative years but the crowds have dwindled lately.

Regardless, this will be the default budget friendly restaurant I will visit when I'm in no mood to experiment something special

The place serves the best chicken Satay in Chennai. The peanut sauce is to die for, provided you like a sweet note in it. The place is pretty economic and this was where I would go as a broke college student. The service is above average. Your dishes normally take 15 - 20 minutes to arrive.

Sunday is all about eating out and giving your kitchen a holiday... we just decided to randomly enter any restaurant we stopped in front of at lunch time i between errands....
I had been to this place a couple of times when it opened years ago...it was the rage then...
I heard of people still visiting the place so thought of seeing if it retained its old charm....
The place was packed... they had outdoor seating by but we chose to sit indoors being a hot afternoon...
They have expanded the dining area on the first floor...
We settled in on Nasi Kadar mutton Sambal ... dragon chicken and naan and Roti Cani chicken curry....
The nasi goreng mutton Sambal is basically non veg meal that comes with rice, mutton gravy, plain mixed gravy, dal, one vegetable, curd, rasam and pappad...
The meals was ok... the dal was sweet and mayb that's how Malaysian dal is but it dint suit out taste buds... the mutton is gravy was tough and not easy to eat.. when we told server he refused to accept it..we got cabbage as the vegetable... an ok meal... nothing great...
The Canai chicken curry on the other hand was amazing... porrota was flaky and soft at the same time... gravy also was thick and bang on in terms of flavour... the dragon chicken and naan were also great...
Ambience is good.. quick service... only sad part was the server not accepting our feedback....
Want to visit again to try the Malaysian noodle and rice dishes....

Pelita - located in the main roads of t Nagar it's very easy to locate.

I generally love Malaysian cuisine and had always wanted to try this place for so long time . Finally hit this place for Sunday lunch .

Decent ambience but food is undoubtedly the bet here.

What we tried -
✔️Mutton Satays - it's nothing but mutton Keemas made into a Satays! It was good with the sauce they provided.

✔️Ordered one chicken fried - special for the day . Must say it was yummy and generous amount of chicken pieces cooked to tenderness. We loved it.

✔️Also ordered one Malaysian nasi goreng prawn- smoky flavoured fried rice spicy and delicious ! Eat it hot and enjoy the malay food😬

Also not to miss the ✔️cold MILO - it was delicious reminiscing the childhood days.
Also my partner ordered a ✔️Pelita delight falooda- it was absolutely yum! Carrot halwa at the bottom with the bananas, watermelons , pineapple pieces topped up above two scoops of icecream .Just brilliant 👌

Service is great. Polite and courteous staffs. Price VFM! Apart from GST thingy 😼

I would definitely come back to this place to try other dishes.

Went on a Sunday night. Booked the table in advance.

The ambience was too good with an array of Malaysian photos in display. The service was also quite quick and good.

We had:
Nasi goreng
Nasi Kambing
Malaysian type Maggi
Mushroom 65

Nasi goreng tasted good with it's unique taste, but more or less like a bowl of fried rice. The Maggi was brought as a soupy one. Clearly there was a difference of the taste from the normal variety of Maggi. (Maybe the soupiness did the trick) The mushroom 65 was average. Kambing was quite good.

Good place for people to try out a different cuisine but still I just think the uniqueness of the restaurant is lagging a bit. Overall happy for what we spent as a whole!

Good old Memories rock...!! Welcome to Nasi Kandar Pelita - Malaysia s favorite nasi kandar restaurant , the restaurant which i used to DREAM- DINE after school. (My school is opposite this hotel.)

"Nasi Kandar - A Malaysian Original - The origin of nasi kandar, an Indian Muslim dish, can be traced to the very streets of colonial Malaysia. Here, amidst the proud houses and bustle of life, a lone figure would trek through the dusty streets, bearing baskets of food and rice hanging from a yoke across his shoulder. Tantalizing aromas of fragrant curries, vegetables, fried fish, beef and chicken would precede his arrival as he went from house to house, hawking his fare.
Hence the name, ‘nasi kandar’, came from how this popular dish was delivered - nasi (Malay for rice) and kandar (Malay for yoke).

Later, as towns grew and the pace of life changed, the traditional nasi kandar hawker would put down his yoke and set up a hawker stall to cater to the popular Malaysian pastime of streetside dining. Today, Pelita Nasi Kandar still uses the same age-old recipes enjoyed by generations before to deliver traditional mouth-watering dishes that are part of Malaysia’s unique heritage. " as quoted in website.

What do people love here at Nasi Kandar Pelita - "Nasi Goreng, Mee Goreng, Chicken Sambal, Fish Chilli, Chicken Satay, Omelette, Chicken Saute" as quoted by Zomato.

"A fusion of old and new - On 9 June 1995, Nasi Kandar Pelita first opened for business as a stall selling nasi kandar at a corner coffee shop at Taman Chai Leng, Perai, Penang. In a short time, word of Nasi Kandar Pelita's tasty dishes spread and some time later the restaurant was able to buy the coffee shop.

The growing popularity of Nasi Kandar Pelita's food led them to extend their business hours to 24 hours which helped transform the once sleepy hollow of Taman Chai Leng into a more lively and busy hub. People from all walks of life thronged to the restaurant just to taste their nasi kandar. Since then, Nasi Kandar Pelita has grown to become Malaysia's largest nasi kandar restaurant chain.

Nasi Kandar Pelita was established on the concept of bonding the old generation with the new generation of nasi kandar entrepreneurs. Combining the culinary knowledge of the older generation and the innovative business and management strategies of the new generation has resulted in turning a small scale business into a multi million Ringgit Malaysia international operation.

The men behind Pelita Nasi Kandar are two family friends, Mr. Kirudu Muhamed Bin Kuppaikanni or as regulars know him, Abang K. K., and Mr. Kaliq Jamal, popularly known as 'Pak Misai'. Abang K. K. has more than 40 years experience in nasi kandar cooking and is the very first person to introduce a fully wall to wall tiled 24-hour nasi kandar outlet located at Tamil Street next to the Penang Chowrasta Market. He introduced 'Kuah Campur' a specialty that definitely give Pelita's nasi kandar its unforgettable taste. Pak Misai has more than 34 years experience in nasi kandar cooking and is a man of great culinary knowledge. Through his skill, he has improved and maintained the great taste of traditional nasi kandar. " as quoted in website.

"Our Beliefs
- The reason why we called ourselves Pelita Nasi Kandar was because 'pelita' means lamp in Malay. Pelita symbolizes the brightness and light shed into the management and administrative aspects of our business.
" as quoted in website.

" Bringing Pelita Nasi Kandar To The World
- Nasi Kandar Pelita now in its 18th year of operations, embarked on an aggressive expansions plan to introduce Nasi Kandar Pelita to our valued customers in all major Malaysian states and as part of our expansion plans, Nasi Kandar Pelita has embarked on a plan to integrate IT services into our administrative infrastructure with the aim of enhancing customer service.  We have opened our first overseas restaurant in Chennai, India on March 2003 with much success. We are looking at Australia as the next stop in bringing Pelita Nasi Kandar to the world. " as quoted in website.

My Review:

Literally bored by rasam & sambar, and by the weathers good grace i wanted spicy meals. so i wanted to try Pelita. The good old pelita was frequented by a good many crowd. i always believed crowds liven the space and food tastes great in such places where vibrancy prevails. so we had a few suggestions from the friendly waiters there. let me give you a glimpse of my eatery.
Lemon Soda - A mix of salt n sugar, to digest whatever may be good or bad.

Satay Chicken - Skewered grilled meat with spicy sauce was put across, Satay consisted of sliced chicken; the authentic version was used - bamboo skewers i believe. simply melt in the mouth and spicy too.

Satay Mutton - Skewered grilled meat with spicy sauce was put across, Satay consisted of sliced mutton; the authentic version was used - bamboo skewers i believe. simply melt in the mouth and spicy too. i prefer the mutton as it is.

Chinese Fried Chicken - Chinese fried chicken was fried in such a way that the skin was extremely crunchy, but the meat was relatively soft.

Special Prawn Fried Rice - spicy rice masala flavored , delectable with chewy prawns so unbelievably soft. this was the best dish on the table.. no plastic rice i believe.

Angara Kabab - Whatever its form may be upon being cooked, its flavour may change but its flesh remains high in protein, low in fat and can be digested easily. i loved the way it was cooked. definitely loved it s smashing taste.

Chettinad Mutton Fry - This dish was a lip smacking one from Chettinad cuisine of South India. If you like spicy gravies, then this recipe is obviously for you…! this mutton curry is very hot..!
Its not only a mouth watering dish, it made me feel like having a whole-hearty meal.

Kerela Chilly Chicken - During my school years, fried rice & chilli chicken was the most happening couple.  Fast forward to my present, my preferences have changed, but I still miss those deep dark red coloured chilli chicken that I used to have from Kerala hotels. definitely not a let down from pelita either.

Prawn Varuval - Eral varuval colloquially pronounced as Era is one of the most popular south India non-vegetarian dishes. pelita has made this scrumptious varuval with those little Indian prawns, a simple dish with a non veg punch.

so my rating for this lovely food n demure behavior, service and environment is a 4/5. overall. congrats to pelita team and all the best..

Amazing place for a variety of cuisines. You can get almost everything here, like Chinese ,Indian ,Malaysian, etc. I had ordered Chicken Fried Rice and small prawns in Malaysian style gravy. Both were amazing to taste. I highly recommend the gravy for everyone. It has both influences of Chinese and Indian cuisine. Do try once and you'll not be disappointed.

Good Malaysian food for the price. We were super hungry and tired after a long drive. We tried the parathas, Biryani, rice with fish curry etc. The chicken satay was good and the parathas were so fluffy and crisp. It was pretty crowded for a Tuesday afternoon.

Stormed with Malaysian, indie and other Asian cuisines, it made my tiring day , a happy one.
The price is worth the food quantity and taste.
I wish they had the cuisine description on the menu , so it would be more easy to order.
Service was little out-laid.
Peak hours or weekends , idk why but the restaurant was bit crowded.
So, coming to food we ordered
The Malaysian Briyani was great , szchewan fried rice was not bad(a little oily) and Kerala chilli chicken was more like chicken drumsticks. The Malaysian Satay sticks was yummy.
Surely would like to visit again.

This place has been a childhood favorite since our visit to Singapore when I was in grade 1.
Food - their banana parotta is to die for and still has the same taste. All the savories on their menu is mostly authentic, while some of us wouldn't prefer the taste.
Staff - have mostly had take aways so...
Ambience - simple one nothing too fancy.

All the dishes are very unique and tasty, i have tried many dishes, nothing disappointed me, must try their Banana parotta,. Parotta is very fluffy and flaky, They should improve their service, Their motive is to make the customers to order many items, not to serve them what they need, other than food taste is great,.

One of my favourite restaurants in town , especially when I crave for Seer Fish Head Curry ( Vanjaram Fish Head ) . It’s priced at Rs 600 approx for a full big head and is worth it . The Iced Milo is also a great hit as the Milo is directly imported from Malaysia . Overall experience is good and friendly staff.

The only authentic Malaysian restaurant in Chennai as far as I know. The taste is closer to what you get in Malaysia. It's one of my favorite restaurants in T Nagar. Their parottas and Malaysian dishes are awesome but can't say the same for Indian food here.

Squid with rice recommended. Parotta is extremely good, tried Malaysian Parotta and onion Parotta. Got a chicken side dish and it was damn good. Squid had a very unique taste and was very tender. They have some signature noodles and rice which might not suit our taste. Very good quantity and quality. They had very good seating capacity and the waiters were very polite and good at helping to make decisions based on my preference. Will definitely go again :)

There was a time, my work used to take me a lot to South East Asian countries.  Malaysia has been one country where I have visited the most and remains my most favourite, partly because of the Malaysian Cuisine. As many who have experienced Malaysian Cuisine would know, it is a balanced blend of Malaysian, Chinese, Indian, and Indonesian influences. I used to long for Malaysian food when am back in Chennai, only until Nasi Kandar Pelita opened its doors. I know that they are a chain in Malaysia, but never bumped into them while in KL, but it is great that they decided to open a branch in India, in Chennai. A must try on their menu, well is the Nasi Kandar itself, which is essentially rice with a choice of meat, fish or vegetarian gravy, with a stir fried side [mostly a wonderfully cooked ladysfinger], and a papad. But my absolute favourites would be the authentic Malaysian Chicken Satay, Nasi Goreng Pattaya and the Iced Milo. The satay is a charcoal grilled Chicken skewer, served with a slightly sweet peanut sauce and salad sides. Each plate comes with 6 portions of Chicken on skewers, which is a shareable portion, but not for me. It is the perfect way to start a Malaysian meal. The main, Nasi Goreng is a simple, spicy Malaysian style fried rice. Nasi means rice in Malay (or is it in Indonesian), and Goreng means fried. It is a nice flavourful, sweet and spicy fried rice with meat and veggies. Now to top it all, the Nasi Goreng Pattaya is the king, where the Nasi Goreng is nicely and neatly wrapped in an egg omelette pocket. It has always been an absolute pleasure to tear open the omelette and unearth the steaming hot fried rice. This dish has so much drama to it, you can only experience it, no description or pictures can compare to the actual act of tearing open the omelette and savour the delicious fried rice. Insiders tip, make sure you take a sneak peek into the open kitchen to watch your Nasi Goreng sliding onto its Omelette parcel. For dessert, I would recommend an Ais kacang, the Malaysian version of a ice gola. But I must say it may not be everybody's favourite. Recent Update One of my favourite world cuisines is Malaysian and what I love about it is the beautiful fusion, originating from multiple ethnic groups that influence the city, its culture and most importantly, its cuisine. The spices used transcend the Malay, Indian and Chinese influences, like Star Anise, or cinnamon, which ties down the three cuisine cultures together. My endless work trips have made me addicted to Malaysian cuisine and the closest I get to in India is when I visit Nasi Kandar Pelita Restaurant in Chennai. They claim that they are extremely popular in Malaysia, but I have just seen one big restaurant of theirs, that too only recently during a trip to Kuala Lumpur in 2018. While I have my favorites, this time when I visited Chennai I was a vegetarian and hence ordered some parota and paneer butter masala, Nasi Goreng Vegetarian, and sat down with my favorite Milo Ais (Iced Milo) to cool off the Chennai Heat. The Milo Ais is something that I miss terribly from Malaysia, hot water and milo mixed voraciously and poured over a glass full of ice, does wonders to your body in the extremely tropical weather, refreshing you instantly. Since the Nasi Goreng doesn't exist in a vegetarian version here, all I got was a regular street style fried rice, which was delicious, but not a Nasi Goreng. The Parota was definitely a malabar version and the paneer butter masala was definitely a customisation for the local taste, but a delicious smoky version that we loved. Did finish off with some Suleimani, which was ok, and two scoops of very icy chocolate ice cream. Milo Ais definitely #apjprecommends Quick Summary - Authentic Malaysian cuisine, swiftly served in a rustic Malaysian cafe style setting, Nasi Kandar Pelita is a Little Malaysia in Big Chennai Even now, I try squeezing in a culinary visit to Nasi Kandar Pelita during my 2-day short trips to Chennai.

It's one of the best no frills Malaysian restaurants in Chennai. Probably the only authentic long-standing restaurants. I remember going there as a college student in 2000. It's still there with the same hotel staff. Casual ambience , Friendly staff really fast servic..worth visiting time and again. Prices have been increased recently. Try their wide range of Malaysian parottas.. noodles rice and desserts. You can see steady stream of guests from the far East countries. Cons. Can get crowded really in weekends but they will take care of you. For sure.
