Hi Google users,
I visited Menaka Restaurant for evening tiffin on 20-Oct-2023. The place gives me good vibes from my childhood, nostalgic Chennai. The moment I stepped into this restaurant it was as if I went back in time to the good old days of Madras.
We had Sambar Vada, Bajji platter, Masala Dosa and Coffee. The highlight dish was Sambar Vada as it was very tasty. Masala Dosa was nicely prepared with a sufficient amount of Masala.
A must visit place if you are in and around Chennai!!!
Guys if you are in Chennai must visit this place very reasonable price and amazing food you will be shocked to see damn cheap price for such delicious food and service.
Visited this place after a long time for dinner. We had to wait for about half an hour and stepped into the restaurant by 9.45pm. I was surprised when I was told that the thali is still available. I was craving for a perfect meal at the end of the day after a hectic schedule. The thali was really a blessing. On seeing it, immediately started eating and hence, the photo was clicked in the middle of having dinner. The dishes were all served hot in a big plate with small dabaras unlike the katoris we find usually in other restaurants. We ordered the madras meal. It had 2 poori, their signature dish and favourite among many. The mix veg kurma was perfect, not spicy at all but the texture was smooth. The rice was served hot with ghee. We had Sambar and rasam which was typical karnataka style. The Kaara kulambu was not spicy as well. The potato, peas n raw banana curry was good. The chow chow kootu tasted yummy. The Appalam was a big one. The raita n curd were good too. Finally, there was vanilla ice-cream to complete the meal. The ice-cream was really creamy and delicious. Would definitely recommend this place for the hot and fresh meals especially for dinner. The staff were courteous and the service was good.
Update about delivery: the mysore bonda was good. Had poori with potato masala, that tastes so yum. Must try.
I would give it 3.5 but for the preserved process still the same and I went after 11 years since my last visit, everything is maintained the same way . Let me tell you that we've had 2 wedding receptions hosted and a few other private events here as well over the last 2 decades so the 5/5 comes weighing in from all of the experiences. Now for the food. You have to experience it. It's delicious and vegetarian. Staff are attentive and not favoring frequent visitors differently so again reason for distinction. We had to wait in the lobby till all of our group members arrived and then we walked in to request seating accommodations otherwise it is an open seating system. Price is nominal and on point. I would definitely go again for the food and the Grape Juice has not changed in 4 decades I've since first tasted it. Lunch time is a limited menu as focus is on the Thali/Meals instead of other tiffin or short eats. Be prepared to spend a good time here be it waiting or enjoying the food in several servings.
I liked the traditional South Indian food here. Grape juice was nice but too sugary.
But they should include more healthier options in thali like chapati instead of poori.
The ambiance is little dull.
The food is good. The crowd is decent. The waiters are mostly middle aged and old men, but are smart and polite. Though it is inside the hotel and caters to the needs of residents, a lot of people visit from outside. Indian food is mostly good. It's not a good place for pizza, burger etc. though they have them in their menu.

Excellent food. Quality has not changed for decades.
Service can be improved. Lethargic and government office attitude.
Service with a smile.... not even once.
The best and the only fully vegetarian restaurant near the consulate. Amazing food, specially the Madras Meals. The waiters here are very friendly and kind. The food tastes amazing and the quantity will leave you filled.
They serve both good indian and indo-chinese food. Do try the Grape juice, its a must.
Might be a little pricey but that just comes with the area its located in. Way better than the other places in the area(nungambakkam). The authentic vintage ambience is very cool and heartwarming.
Spotted the red vintage Mercedes at the entrance? What a Classic !!
Very good vegetarian restaurant for trying meals of Tamilnadu and Andhra style.Sambar taste reminded me of grandma’s cooking
One of the Reputed Restaurents in Chennai. Still retaining it's Charm by updating themselves in tune with time.
Visited Yesterday evening. Serves Vegetrian Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Ambience was Nice. Staff are very Cordial and Courteous.
We had Chats, Soup, Butter Dosa, North Indian Dishes, Special Meals, Ice Cream and the much talked about Grape Juice.
All the Items except Butter Roti and Steawberry Ice Cream were very good. I found Malai Kofta and Palgrome Special Grape Juice deserve Special mention.
On the Minus Side, Butter Roti was like Papad lacking the required softness of ideal Roti. Generally Rotis are like this in Chennai. Ice Cream (Straw Berry) was much grainy and had a disturbing deep Rose colour. Perhaps these things might have like this only today.
On the Whole, Nice place to go for a Family Evening over a Delicious Vegetarian fare.
BEST PLACE FOR VEG MEALS.
TIFFIN ITEMS ARE VERY TASTY.
MASALA DOSA, EVENING SNACKS WITH FILTER COFFEE MUST TRY
