Loved this quaint tea-room that serves you varieties of teas and a carefully thought out menu of quick eats that includes cakes, pastas, toasts and so forth. Thoroughly enjoyed the Bruschetta and Corn chilly toast. The tea room also displays several paintings by local artists including oil on canvas, water colour and sketches for sale.
The food was excellent. I was told that everything there was freshly cooked. Beautiful English countryside decor. They had lovely organic loose leaf tea. Such a relief that they do not give us tea bags. The afternoon high tea stand was really generous and tasty. A great place to catch up with friends. Will definitely keep coming back to try other food from the menu.
I loved the feel & the decor & the coziness of this English cafe..very interesting food...and the way the English tea is served with scones & cakes & sandwiches..chennai needs more places like this..and awesome location..
An English setting in one of the most happening places in Chennai, Kasturi Rangan Road. Tastefully done up decor, cozy ambience, yummy food and a warm hostess...what more can one expect from a restaurant? A must visit place for the dreamer who lives in the Enid Blyton era.
The entire ambience is too good to dine in...loved it so much
Calmness and care at the place meant a lot
Food served was tasty and hygenic....a different sort of environment experienced....style and culture ahead
Just had the dark chocolate raspberry at this lovely cafe! Tooooo yummmm
Excellent place to dine with our family and friends
It's a cute little layout (blessed if not crowded) at Alwarpet ! The whole ambience is such is cozy and a cute little cupboard had some Enid Blyton books and a few Nancy Drew books. The food ! It's a all day breakfast kind of restaurant and they can customize accordingly. Only some caramel based deserts were too sweet otherwise it's a great experience ! Mac and cheese and cheese toast are on top when it comes to dessert the carrot cake did wonders ! Staff are really kind and attentive !
⚡ EXPRESS REVIEW : Their Breakfast is ♥️
Detailed Review-
Location + Ambience:
Took me a minute to realise that the cafe was on the first floor and was not a seperate building altogether.
Interiors are cozy and designed with a nice mellow colour palette. Homely feels guaranteed.
FOOD : I wanted to try their All day English breakfast spread. So I ordered that along with a BBQ Pizza.
Please go on an empty stomach if you want to have their breakfast as they can fill you up indeed!
The Breakfast had baked beans, a grill tomato, bacon strips, Potato wedges, 2 sausages, toast , Eggs cooked to order, Orange juice and Tea/Coffee ( long list I know! )
Overall their Breakfast was Great although their Baked beans felt a Little ketchupy and I wish the sausages were a little more cooked. Coffee was okay but my oh my, their Eggs were AMAZING .
The BBQ chicken pizza was good, not that spicy but loaded with cheese. Wish they topped with some fresh Basil.
BUDGET: It cost me ₹761 for the above. Pizza was slightly overpriced but for the breakfast it was totally justified.
Compliments to Chef who prepared those eggs 🍳 Big Fan!
Staff were really nice especially Rupesh who was extremely good during the service,so hardworking love to visit here next time.
One of the places in chennai where we get healthy eating options. A little overpriced. love the salads
This place is an amazing one to hangout with a couple of friends or go on a date!
With courteous staff and delicious food, it makes up for the perfect cafe!
The masala chai is beyond delicious!
We order chickpeas salad which is very flavourful and so is the spicy corn on toast!
Would highly recommend to try these and most definitely visit this place for a great time.
In my persuit for some good English breakfast, this was on my list. Although it's called "breakfast", most of these type of places open only at 11 which eventually becomes brunch..
So there we were at 11. The ambience is a typical English setup with the beautiful sea green color theme..
Straight to the food: ordered the full English bf.
Grilled tomatoes: plump and juicy
Baked beans: soft but felt like they were baked in tomato ketchup (I liked it since i like ketchup :))
Bacon: 2 pieces, crisp and yum as usual
Potato wedges: one of the best I've had. Crisp on the outside and soft inside.
Sausages: 2 pieces, the most succulent and tasty ones I've had so far.
Mushrooms: salt and pepper. Not a big fan but my husband loved it so I guess its a selective taste.
Eggs to order: scrabbled.. soft and fluffy just how it is supposed to be.
Toast: 2 slices. Nothing out of the blue with a little butter on the side (wish they'd given a little more butter.. But I stole from my husband 😁)
Orange juice: freshly made with real oranges (yes the real oranges 😊)
Coffee: a sufficient quantity and a perfect cup to end the meal.
Price: 882/-
Over all it was one of the best I've eaten so far. Would consider going back.
I've often passed by this place but never really got a chance to go in cause from the name I thought it was a 'quick bites ' place and recently I found out that it's a legit continental place running great for a while even though the name says opposite of continental. So I went in and found myself a table , which wasn't hard since it was a Thursday. The place had this nostalgic feeling which I rarely see in most themed restaurants these days . The menu was huge but affordable , whenever I go to a themed restaurant which serves everything despite it's name sounding authentic I make sure I order what's not their regular. Like for example even though Sangeetha is popular for South Indian , I go there and order pizza and chat because it's on the menu and i'd like to see their take on it. Similarly instead of ordering a full English breakfast or whatever , I ordered a chilli chicken starter which by the way amazing !. As I ate my starter I looked through the drinks and went for a rose lemonade cause it looked like it needed the least effort among the other drinks , and I wasn't wrong , it was just lemonade and rose syrup. Even then it tasted odd , like the rose essence was overpowering the lemonade and I couldn't make it past 2 sips. I then ordered pasta arabiatta for my main course which even though was less in qty made up for in taste , it felt very hommeade and tasted less " loyyd grossmany" which I personally love in pastas. For desert I ordered a tiramisu which was renamed in the menu as sticky toffee or whatever , which too was great. So yeah , this place is a great Hangout spot with friendly service , great food and neat ambience. The only gripes I initially had was the small qty but then I realized that will allow you to try other things on the menu and have a complete meal for once. Smart .

Wohooo! You simply can drool and crave for the cakes by looking at the pics that I've attached!! This place is simply amazing. The wait between ordering and to be delivered at the table is just a jiffy I would say!! Their cakes takes you to the another planet. It's too obvious from the name, yes they give you the palate with the absolute English effect! I still have to explore what tea room has more to delight their customers and especially foodies like me! Sure trailing visits I could foresee😻😻 Credits again to my colleague who packed the same apple honey cake once made me to dine in and review now!! #INFLUENCED #BAKING
Loved the ambience and the subtle music.
The place is comfortably lit and cozy and wasn't crowded.
Tried one of their signature teas and it was nice. They have plenty of options from the regular green tea to saffron and fruit teas. For non-tea lovers they have staple hot and cold drinks. Good number of options on their food menu as well.
They have a new Mexican menu. Will go back soon to try those dishes.
Love the decor and the quaint ambience!!! The food was yummmy and that’s one of the best wedges I had! Crazy good! Delightful experience! I never liked dates but the dessert just changed my thought!
Ambience is first class and justice to its name♥️ English tearoom♥️ Pasta was so juicy♥️ Had the best oreo shake♥️ Fish fingers were very soft and juicy♥️

Great Experience!
You've got to visit here, at least once.
Loved the Afternoon Special Tea.
Greek salad was also fresh and delicious.
Overall, quite satisfying.
A chic, themed café serving Continental delicacies. It has some wonderful options for breakfast and tea (two pages of its menu is entirely occupied by various types of tea!). The most striking feature of this café is the ambience. Situated on the second floor, with large french styled glass windows, the place provides a splendid view for an afternoon date. Even though the space is a bit limited, it's airy and bright. The comfy couches, the pretty curtains, and the modest decorations make you feel like you're actually in an 18th Century English Parlour. And the crowd is also as elegant as the place. Service was a bit slow, but the staff was extremely polite.
So yeah, we were really impressed by the place the minute we stepped inside. It's the food for which we had mixed feelings. The starters tasted good but the beverages were not at all up to the mark.
We ordered the following things:
1) Caramelized mushroom onion pita pockets
: This was an ideal dish for brunch. Filling, yet light, tasty, and healthy.
2) Iced Hazelnut Mocha : As fancy as the name sounds, this drink was appalling at best. It tasted like extremely diluted iced black coffee. It wasn't sweet or chocolaty or savoury as coffee should be, it was just a really poor brew of the ingredients. Maybe it was because they had put too many ice cubes.
3) Thai Red Curry : Wholesome.
4) Pina Colada Virgin : The drink tasted like coconut milk with tangy notes of pineapple, as it should have. But the tanginess was a tad too strong, so much so that it actually tasted very pungent. And the sweetness was completely absent.
5) Peony white tea
: Waste of money
Must try : Caramelized mushroom onion pita pockets

This is the best place to go if you are looking for a nice English Breakfast. The food is amazing and the ambience is nice and cute! Reasonable cost and I can assure you people will have a great time here. Will visit again. :)
The English tearoom is one of the best place where you can get amazing breakfasts. They are known for their special teas. If you are a tea lover, definitely you should visit this place. They have delicious pastas too. If you are in Chennai, visit this place at least once.
This place is just amazing! My friends and I ordered three full English breakfast and we were not disappointed. The ambience is very light and breezy and with the good food it instantly lights up any person's mood. Really loved this place. I would definitely visit this place again.
I had the Afternoon Cream Tea (Christmas Mulled Spiced Tea) here. The presentation was delightful. The sandwich and the scone tasted great! The tea was nice too.
I was there late evening and felt the lighting could havd been better. Otherwise, the ambience is nice.
Overall, a lovely experience. I would go back with a book to read.
We went to this place at 10:40 pm, 10 mins after their kitchen closed. After some talking the people were sweet enough to open the kitchen, just for us. Them items we were offered was limited,no complaints there. We had a mushroom , caramelized onion sandwich and a paneer sandwich. Both were extremely tasty, especially the mushroom one. They had a wide array of desserts. We ordered their signature sticky toffee pudding which wasny upto our likings. The chocolate Lava cake and the chocolate truffle with ice cream made up for the pudding .
Straight out of an Enid Blyton storybook, this cafe will transport you straight into the world of tea and scones. The pastel shaded ambience is quiet and relaxing, and they serve high tea which will make your afternoon extraordinary! I loved it here and wish I lived in Chennai so I could visit more often.
Perfect spot for friendly conversations over a cup of tea.. they have multiple flavours of tea.. again it’s only tea and snacks.. don’t go expecting filling food.. the menu is minimal with maximum focus on the brew.. the ambience is beautiful.. it’s perfect for a laid back relaxed afternoon for friends and lovers

I only got to try their Coffee. It was good. I loved the ambience. It was calm and quiet. I would like to go there again sometime to check out their food.
I held a baby shower in their private event space recently and the whole experience was extremely pleasant. The food was fantastic, the service was exceptional, the manager in charge Afran went out of his way to even blow balloons and provide us with scissors and tape that we forgot to carry. Stellar item was the bruschetta.
The team was extremely professional and personable at the same time. Look forward to heading back here again for a regular meal.
A calm perfect place. Tried their warm crepes with Banana and Nutella,it was amazing..their carrot cake with custard is a must try.. The pink pasta was one of the best pastas ever
The English Tearoom has really lived up to it's name. From the victorian-esque ambience to the English menu varieties, it is quite deserving of its high rating.
I ordered the Full English Breakfast, which has 2 eggs, toast, grilled tomatoes and mushrooms, potato wedges, chicken sausages and baked beans. Along with this it includes a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice and a choice of teas or coffee.
This is a lot of food that would easily satiate a hungry person, and it is so flavourful and keeps you happy with every bite.
I also had the Grilled Cheddar Mac n Cheese, which was also superb.
For dessert, a scrumptious Sticky Toffee Pudding with vanilla custard and a delectable Fudgy Brownie with ice cream.
I was really surprised that I found the pudding better than the brownie.
Don't get me wrong, you wouldn't go wrong with either. If my opinion matters to you, however, go for the pudding.
If you're not a fan of either of these, they also have a counter filled with freshly baked desserts to choose from.
Looking forward to eating here again.
A nice and cosy little restaurant with English style decor and a dessert bar tucked away in one corner. The service is really friendly and quick.
For starters, we chose Chilli chicken and fish fingers. The chilli chicken was fine and the fish fingers were crispy and well-cooked. There was absolutely no stench and the dip was good, too.
Moving on to the main course, we ordered a spicy fish wrap which was mind-blowing. The fish filets were soft and flavourful, and the sauce and veggies went well with the fish filling. The wrap was served with a side of fries.
The mushroom homestyle pizza was just fine and the chicken alfredo pasta was creamy and delicious.
The desserts were the best part! We ordered warm chocolate pudding with ice-cream, tres leches cake and chocolate truffle cake. The tres leches cake was spongy and tasted authentic. The chocolate pudding and cake were delectable.
The English Tearoom one of the finest cafe in recent times in Chennai it’s located in Alwarpet and it is an heavenly place for the foes who tends to hangout in cafe and the persons who wants to experience a tea shop with classic nature at its peak !
Even though the restaurant is not placed in the bottom base it gives you a feel that you could make a chill out peacefully !
And the foods were amazingly plated and the taste was quite awesome
Specifically the starter Bruschetta platter was brilliant and my all time drug cappuccino was good
Really the tea lover have to strike the doors of the restaurant because it had n number of varieties in tea but any how I don’t have the habit of having teas so I didn’t have
Hopefully they would may be a boom !
And the ambience would provide the elite people a chillness even though the nosh are cosy, I don’t mind in paying it was a better one on my perspective !!
Thank You
To start with place decor and ambience it makes u feel completely English
Food is Ok
Don't try rose cupcake it taste full of rose water
Berry tea is must try
Truly a Victorian English style cafe. The ambiance is what I loved the most. A classic and a topical English style. Mac and cheese is the best and one a kind. Regular hot chocolate. Cheese and corn bread is perfect. Great service and everything in this tea room are top notchs.
A nice place to spend a lazy afternoon/ evening with a friend. The decor and menu are in sync with the theme.
The service is good.
We went for the tea for 2 combo. Loved the berry blush green tea. With the sweet aroma of berries, it was hardly bitter.
The next was the usual Assam tea. I love how they gave us milk & sugar to do it to our liking.
The assortment of sandwiches and pastries were declicious. But we were unable to finish them.
Loved the broccoli sandwich. The other with tomato & cheese wasn't too good. The muffin was amazing with the sides.
The tea comes for 2-3 cups (Berry blush).
Definitely a must visit place! Has parking space.
Very calm and pleasant place ... Very healthy food ! Amazing tea .. definitely a healthy place for breakfast .. a must try place ... I enjoyed the food !
Lovely place to have an all round tea/snacks, high tea. Ambience is good and decor with the powdered wall colours add to the mood of an English breakfast place. This place is in the heart of Alwarpet and being at this location, is pretty calm. Seating is adequate with another small room for holding mini parties towards the left.
The food is very good. The Bruschetta platter is a must have and so is the Jacket Potato. The coconut mousse was delightful. I only had one concern. The kitchen didn't seem to have an exhaust and so all the smoke kept coming into the dining area. I had watery eyes throughout my meal.
Nice ambience and a bit pricy but great food. I recommend burritos and the mushroom pesto pizza. All the dishes were unique in terms of composition and style
Perfect place.... Had a silent birthday lunch with the Mrs and it was one to remember had everything from polite and attentive staffs to delicious food. Had a orange pure and easily the best have tasted. Loved the chilli chicken and mac cheddar with chicken. Overall a must visit in the area.
Lovely, calm, beautiful place. It's situated in a calm area and the ambience felt soo warm, tearoom kinda feel
Their menu was attractive as the place
We ordered the chilli cheese toast and chilli chicken for the starters, the cheese toast was amazingly good, it was crispy and the chilli flavour went well with the toast. The chilli chicken was good too, tender and saucy like the Asian food.
Then we ordered Grilled Chicken Rosemary Sandwich and Alfredo Penne Pasta added chicken, veggies, mushrooms.
The grilled sandwich was good and went well with the two sauces and the potato wedges along with the sandwich was crispy and very tasty. Alfredo pasta is my all time favourite and it was really good here, the cheese and the veggies were blended amazingly and tasted very good..
Service could have been better, cuz we were waiting for a long time.
Ambience 8/10
Food 9/10
Service 8/10

Overall 7.5/10
This is our visit to this place. Nice quaint place in the heart of town. Lovely and cozy ambiance. We had the full English breakfast, Vegetable au gratin, and a masala chai to finish. The food, just like the ambience was brilliant. We’re sure to come back to this place a whole lot more!
A restaurant situated in a relatively calm road in Alwarpet. Simple, yet inviting ambience.
Each order takes 15 minutes to get served, which is a time for friendly chat.
Starters, burgers, pizza, pastas, sandwiches and desserts. TEA is their speciality, which should not be missed at any cost. One kettle of tea serves 3 people. Varieties of tea to choose from. Discuss with the manager for your right choice.
Nachos, tikkis and short eats too available. Try and see.
Such a treasure trove! Worth each penny and more, a solid 4 star rating with no doubt. This is definitely a cool looking eatery with an ample seating and beautiful decor. The ambience is very soothing which adds on to the dining experience.
Food was scrumptious. We had the Alfredo pasta and sticky toffee pudding. The pasta is by far the best I had anywhere. It was fantastic. So was the pudding. The staffs were very cheerful and the service was decent. I really enjoyed eating there and I think it’s totally worth another visit.

A nice and girly place. Always nice to hang out with your girls there.
Had been there once, tried their chicken Caesar salad- good quantity and taste.
Would suggest this place for sure! :)
Such a good place to visit. The ambience is so good that you would never want to leave the place. The food is just perfect. The service was quick and polite. It's a really good place to spend with your loved ones.
A calm and peaceful place to have food. Specially for lunch. Good ambience which give a artistic look. I wish the place could have been little bigger because they have only maximum of 10 to 15 seats available.
Organic tea is the top notch items from the menu. They provide various kinds of organic tea.
My favourite dish is Alfredo Pasta.
We took the full breakfast from the all day breakfast menu and not a single component in there disappointed. The ambience was on point but the music could have been better. The waiting staff was super nice.
Great ambience... service was awesome... seating can be better... maybe some comfortable chairs or booth would be great. The food is great especially the breakfast .... but if you are looking for a quite dinner date.... Thy should consider opening it early maybe! .... But a great hangout place!! Will defo visit again!! And btw the Tea choices super awesome!!
It was a laid back early evening dinner with my friend and this place is located in a nice locality.
The menu is quiet interesting and wide range of selection where one would enjoy.
I loved the food and this is one of the place where nothin went wrong atleast so far.
Definitely will visit again.
Courteous staff
Wide menu range
Tasty food
We had the lime mint cooler & corn cheese chicken club sandwich. The drink was refreshing & soothing. The sandwich was delicious, it had a generous amount of chicken, corn, mayo & salad. It would have been much better if it were accompanied by fries. Overall a good experience.
The most sophisticated place I have been to which yet has casual vibes to it. Loved the decor, the china they served the tea in and the friendly staff.
I am not much of a tea person but absolutely loved the tea here along with the marble cake .

Raisin scone raisin scone,How I love you to bits,
Raisin scone raisin scone,How do I get rid of this!
Rasin scone raisin scone! How do I explain this matter,
Raisin scone raisin scone, pastry in iambic pentameter.
The food taste was really good , but I just wanted to bring up few things the overall place was bit noisy and to the staff would like to suggest one thing is don’t bring all the orders together
Apart from this everything is spot on ,would recommend this to everyone and I hope if the suggestions that I have given are taken as a positive note would love to revisit the place again
Ordered Grilled Paneer with Veggies. Paneer was delicious and spicy. Very well grilled and fresh. Veggies were disappointing. Very few pieces that too over dominated by peas. They can do better in terms of packing. Overall it was a good. 4 star for the amazing paneer.
We were already half full from an evening surrounded by small eats. We decided to step in on a whim on our way home on a late Sunday evening. An unassuming place and a wonderful menu. We went for the saffron kawha tea and lemon grass jaggery lemonade with roasted peanut and cucumber salad, mushroom pizza and grilled veggies pita pockets. A couple of plates with 4 people to share. Would have loved to do a full meal, add non vegetarian. Soon!
Been there & jus loved everything about this plc.. good Ambience & friendly staff.. food ordered was very tasty 👍🏻& I fell in love with their desserts .. 😍
This place is typically English with its retro decor and quiet ambience. The food is good but vegetarians might not prefer it here with limited options. The most deserved mention goes to the perfect English Scones, probably the best you'd get outside England. It was warm, crumbly and absolutely scrumptious along with the cream and jam. Though an overall meal is quite expensive than you'd expect over here, I'd go back just for their Scones.
A small well decorated cozy little place..The ambience was gd..Went there 4 breakfast..The full English breakfast was yummy and filling ..The mushroom quiche was way 2 gd..Nice place to have a quick English breakfast..Hope they open daily 4 Breakfast
Would definitely recommend this place. Has a calm atmosphere with very courteous staff. I ordered the full English breakfast hoping for absolute authenticity as it’s “ the English tearoom” and yes ! I wasn’t disappointed one bit , perfectly cooked bacon, toast , grilled tomatoes with some pepper, sausages and eggs cooked to perfection again. And those delicious beans! Took me straight back to a gloomy cold day in central London. Not to forget the fresh squeezed orange juice served as a side. Overall a great place. If there’s something for improvement I feel the ambience could have more British decor which would make it cooler, but again my hearts satisfied with the food they serve.
Too much privacy, good food and ambiance ♥️♥️
Must try👉🏻Hawaiian pineapple and chicken ham Home style pizza, try some brushchetta, nachos🤤
Am sure you will fall in love with the place and food.. one of the best cafe’s in Alwarpet 😍😍😍
Was looking out for cafes in Alwarpet, and the first to come up was this. Centrally located, easy to locate and decent parking space.
The place is done well, simple and tastefully done. It's a perfect place to catch up with your friends and spend some good time having a chat.
Coming to the menu, we went for a Caramel Oreo shake and a pot of Oolong tea. The oreo shake was normal, and the Oolong tea was my Friend's regular at this place, and no complaints there.
And the service was pretty good as well. Overall, this is one such place, where you can spend quality time with your friends and loved ones accompanied by good food. A definite must visit!
Awesome place. I absolutely love the ambience and choice of interiors. There’s a lot of options for vegetarians and the food is quite tasty. A good place to chill and spend time with friends.
If you're a breakfast junkie looking to spend some quality time with a book or a special person (ugh!) or your phone, this is a super nice place to come to. The bakes are delicious ! Although, I would have had a wider smile on my face if there was more bacon or meat in the English breakfast.
The English tearoom. The name says it all what it could be. Typical British themed cafe where you eat or drink other than tea. Asusual, Hot chocolate sucks in Chennai so do here. Cheddar Mac n cheese is a top notch. I would rather visit this place again for ambience and cheddar Mac n cheese. Loved it!
Lovely ambiance and nice people. Their vegan strawberry almond smoothie is to die for. Highly recommend it. Enjoyed the mushroom sandwich too. :)
Request to managers: Please try to check with customers if they want a straw or not. It's a one-time-use plastic that we don't need. One step closer to being environment conscious. :)
Definitely coming back. Look forward to more vegan food on the menu!
Went there to check out an exhibition. Then thought of having some tea. Tried their organic black tea. It really had a wonderful flavour and was very refreshing indeed.
The place is nice and cosy. It gives an old British charm. It's very easy to locate too.
Mixed emotions. If you go in search of a proper all day breakfast menu it's a little bit disappointing. Pancakes are available only till 11 am and there r no waffles or even much variety in the all day breakfast part of the menu. If you are a health freak wooed by the words almond milk, quinoa and chia seeds, you will find these are restricted to only certain items in the menu they will not add the almond milk in you cappuccino. The place is pretty expensive, a simple eggs to order is 250 bucks, seemed a bit too much for someone who doesn't mind spending for a good ambiance and gourmet food. Beware of the pink lemonade, was inedible, roadside paneer soda would be more authentic. The cheesy nachos left a lot to be desired too. Then why I gave a 4 star, the best part of the menu .. the Thai yellow curry was so authentic and delicious, finger licking good plus served with quinoa if you don't have rice. And the must have - peanut butter jelly sandwich..you just can't stop eating it!! Don't miss it!
Fantastic!! Good variety and pricing is perfect!! Had their grilled cottage cheese with grilled veggies and Burrito bowl - both were perfectly done and tasty!! We do not miss to order the Scones with jam and Cream!! Yumm and Perfectly English! Would keep visiting!
The English Tea Room - the name says it all .. Yes it is English style interiors and awesome menu.
I also read that their teas are all organic. We had Assam and holy basil both were excellent.
I have heard about their breakfast menu and would like to try it soon.
Grilled chicken with veggies, rose lemonade, nachos, chicken quiche, baked cheddar mac n cheese with brocolli!
