Kaju Katli Sweets were extremely fantastic....but it's damn expensive when compared to other popular brands.
Situated on Govindappa Naicken Street, near flower bazaar, the oldest sweet shop in Chennai, I am visiting this shop from the 1970’s, my childhood days. Rasamalai, Basundhi, Samosa and Lassi these four items are a must-try here and I can challenge, this taste cannot be matched with any sweet shop in Chennai.
Apart from these items, Kaju Kathili, Badam Halwa which costs Rs.2000/- per kg Sweet Potato Mixture are special here.
The one and only best Sweet shop in Chennai.
A MUST TRY for all in Chennai
Location - 4.0/5.0; Ambience - 4.0/5.0; Food - 5.0/5.0; Service - 4.0/5.0; VFM -5.0/5.0
Awesome place, it has not changed a bit over the years including the TASTE. Brings back the childhood memories. keep up the good work. Love the samosa and sweets.
Too expensive , but quality is top notch . A simple kulfi costs about 130. So heading for icecreams is not a good option. But thier sweets especially the wheat halwa is to die for.
I remember when I was 5 years old and my parents took me to this place to have a little snack. Their lassi has always been a staple and the taste has not changed a bit. They are famous for their jaangris and samosas. I tried their kachori for the first time and wasn't disappointed at all. It was crispy and flaky unlike the other kachoris I had in the past. Their kesar malai lassi was awesome. I loved the chutneys they served with the samosas n kachoris btw.
Prices are on the expensive side though.
Definitely worth trying.
P.s. there is no parking facility available for cars.
The lassi is so awesome. The best one will find in Chennai. Though the quantity is less and the price is ₹115/cup, it still justifies the price and quantity. Will try other sweets in the future...
One of my favorite places who make the best rasgulas in town. Also other sweets and savories are yummy . Must try the sweet lassi and the samosas too..
This place always remains the starting point of our sowcarpet food journey. We don't know whether it's luck or fate we always go there only on Saturdays.
Gheer Sagar
This one is Saturday special in Agarwal.
It had the right amount of sweetness which would make you to have more than one bowl. Each balls were perfectly juicy and soaked well in the gheer. My favourite one from Agarwal.
Rs. 75/-
Best place for all kind of sweets. As far as I know, no sweet stall in chennai can compete with them in terms of taste. badam katli, gulkand and angoor basundi are my favourites.
This place is my favorite for yummy samosas and the best rasagullas in chennai. Handsdown no other sweet shop can beat them on this. Ambience wise it is pretty old, so do not expect much. Good for a takeaway.
I would say it is the best place in Chennai. I like their somosa, jangri and basundi which are unique in taste. Compared to others vendors they stand out in providing authentic and high quality sweets and snacks. I'm lucky to live in the vicinity of the shop.
Things to be noted: 1.They won't accept cards only cash 2. Please nvr try to come by car, it is too congested all thru the week execpt on sunday evenings, even parking bike is tough during week days.
Shops located in very beginning of Govindhapa street and it is walkable distance from parrys bus stand or flower bazzar police station.
Best place on town to have yummy samosa...rabidi and Lassi...Little highly priced and no proper parking facility.Go for it for North Indian snacks.
the best samosas in chennai.lassi is also great.the savories are all gud.it is located at the entrance of govindappa naicken street.very convenient location and excellent service.
One of the best sweet shop in Chennai.very famous for their samosas and every sweet and savoiries will have a unique taste.u can try everything here.
Best sweets in Sowcarpet area after kakada Ramprasad. Located in Govindappa naicken street, however parking is not available and that is the only minus point.. hence plan ur parking and this is not to be missed.
One of the most trusted brand in the middle of the busy commercial hub of Sowcarpet in the beginning of Govindapan nayakar street.
Awesome and authentic taste of all sweets and savory.
We tasted katchori which was yummy with the mix chutney.
We had hot samosas which were really really yummy and a classical taste distinctly different offering superior taste
Dhokalas were very soft and tasty served along with green chutneys
We completed our snack with cool lassi and badam milk
Lassi was served cold and scored over badam milk which was not cold
There is a service which is efficient. There is place for around 15 -20 people to sit and enjoy this delicious snacks
In short my recommendation is A MUST VISIT PLACE ✅✅
Kachori was awesome... Had rasamalai and gulab jamon. They were excellent... They are so good in sweets. Especially Bengali sweets. Mattar samosas available on friday and Saturday... One of the must try spots at the neighborhood.... Will try their popular drinks such as lassi in future...
Must visit place when we go to parry’s . Their sweet varieties are superb and their snacks is equally good . Whenever we go we will have a samosa and Gulab jamun for dining . And buy home rasamalai , basundhi ,dhokla. Their lassi and badam milk is also very famous . This shop is there for years together and they maintain the quality very much . Service here is also very quick and good
[June 2023] This tiny and crowded sweet shop in Chennai serves some of the best samosas I've ever had. The sweets I tried were all delicious and had an authentic taste. Although the samosas were small in size, they were amazing, especially when paired with the chutneys. The prices are a bit high, but the taste is totally worth it.
If you're looking for authentic North Indian sweets and snacks, I highly recommend this place. Just keep in mind that the ambiance and seating are not great. The shop is so small that they have stools for dine-in to save space.
You can find this shop on a cramped street in Sowcarpet, about 400 meters away from Broadway Bus Terminal. There's no dedicated parking available, so you'll have to rely on luck to find a spot in front of the shop amidst the busy traffic. Alternatively, you might have to park a bit further away, which can be challenging since it's a busy market.
I recently dined at a charming small restaurant and was pleasantly surprised by the overall experience. The cozy ambiance immediately set the mood for a relaxed evening. The menu offered a variety of options, and I decided to try their signature dish, which did not disappoint. The flavors were exquisite, and the presentation was impeccable.
The service was attentive and friendly, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. Prices were reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food. The dessert menu featured delectable choices, and I couldn't resist indulging in a delightful treat to end the meal.
One minor drawback was the limited seating, so making a reservation is advisable. Overall, this small restaurant offered an intimate, memorable dining experience with great food and service. It's a hidden gem that's worth visiting for a cozy date night or a special occasion. I'll definitely be returning to savor more of their delightful dishes.
The best lassi I had in my entire life!!! The samosa are absolutely delicious, had to eat three of them!

Agarwal Bhavan is best known for Milk Sweets.
From my perspective their Sweets and Chat items stands unique in taste and really tempting too.....
Shop famous for sweets like Bhasundhi, Lassi, Rasamillai, bhadham milk, Gulab jaamun. 😋😋😋
Most of the people will have the above sweets.
Most of the people come from different places of Chennai to purchase sweets in bulk too.
Location: Sowkarpet, Chennai.
i have been knowing this place for now more then 35 years ... i have seen samosa's size reducing :) ... i don't know why do people reduce on quality or quantity ... as such they are charging quite well they could have charged few more RS more then what they are charging and give the same size and the quality ... it's my one of the most loving place when it comes to samosa ...
I know this restaurant from 1980s. I used to visit the restaurant for snacks and Lassi. After a very long time I went to the restaurant today for buying some sweets and snacks to be gifted to my relatives and friends. The quality and taste of sweets and snacks is very good. I shall recommend the place to my relatives and friends.
The Lassi served today was superb. The restaurant has only limited space and the atmosphere is a little noisy and crowded.
This place has been serving snacks and sweets for a very long time and still the taste and quality is the same. It was top when it started and maintaining the quality is really difficult. The samosas they serve are still the best I have ever tasted. Even the sweets and lassi are too good. They ofcourse are quite expensive when compared to other shops but I feel quakity do matters a lot. Do try samosas here for sure.
It's one of the oldest sweet stall in Chennai. It's land mark of Chennai. Sweets are made with ghee, savouries are also good. I am a regular customer.
Usually crowded.. samosa and lassi are famous here.. dokla was not that good.
Very old shop, maintaining its standard. Great! 👍
One of the pioneer vegetarian north Indian snacks houses in Chennai, operates from a small shop yet their reach is quite commendable.
Famous for snacks and savouries, this shop is always busy and full 😂 with customers
Their samosa is very famous, do as their lassy (expensive compared to other places) tastes and feels different ❣️
Easily locatable and accessible.
There's a wait always
One of the oldest sweet shops of Chennai. I personally love the hot samosas here in particular as they have a unique taste along with their sweet sauce served with it. Their rich lassi and rasa malai are other popular items. 4 star only because the interior ambience has not changed for more than 30 years.
The best sweet and savory shop that I have been visiting since my childhood.
The sweet Lassi an basundhi are my usual favorite items since my school days for over 45 years.
The best taste you can get here at a reasonable price.
A place where everyone should get a chance to visit at least once in lifetime
Nostalgic, this is an old eatout place and use to visit 30 odd years ago. Has been our family must visit location whenever we are back in Chennai. G8 food. Always busy
