After a brief morning walk around Mylapore, I found this place to have some breakfast. Place was moderately crowded during the breakfast time. Dosas and 14 Idly with Sambar and Ghee are must try. Coffee is amazing and kudos to the team who did it. Staff were quick and service was great. Ambiance is good and prices were pocket friendly. Finally, amazing breakfast in the morning in Mylapore.
If there could be one vegetarian south indian food heaven, it got to be Saravana Bhavan. The food is not only taste good but service standards are top notch, the staff is quick with pleasing demeanors.
It cant get more economical for the quality that is served, full value for money, its frequented not only by high fliers but people from all walks of life.
If you are in Chennai, you must visit Sarvana Bhavan atleast once. However when you visit, visit with open mind and start reviewing the place only after finishibg your dish, one downside though bill is served even evem before you finish your food.
GOOD. delivered before time
I was here for breakfast and had Idly- soft and tender. served with sambar and 2 chutney.
Aapam with coconut gravy- The gravy was white but spicy. It was made with different veggies to be eaten with aapam that looks like dosa.
Masala dosa- the size is huge for a person with average appetite. It was served with potato masala, chutney and sambar.
The food is made upon order and was served hot. The restaurant was not full still the service was slow. Otherwise it is a good place for a quick breakfast.
Saravana Bhavan is located at North mada street, near kabaleeswarar temple. We went to this place for breakfast and ordered their mini Tiffin. Mini Tiffin is a combination of mini sambar idly, mini masala dosa, ghee pongal, rava kesari and coffee. I just loved the breakfast which was worth the money. Ambience of this place was good.
Usually go for Breakfast. Set Lunch & Dinner is also a very economical and good option for Lunch or Dinner. Also the Roti Combos are Good especially the Aloo Gobi & Veg Kohlapuri. Liked it.
There cheese dosas in dinner are yummm! Although the place could be a little more hygienic. The staff should be a little less irritating too towards the non south indian customers.

You know you have made the right choice when you come to this place to savour their 14 idly ghee sambar n Pongal. A delight to eat these two dishes. I am quite sure they use vanaspathi in their Pongal but I won’t eat here on a daily basis. We also ordered onion and banana bajjis but they alright. Loved the ambience and quickness in the service
Best in chennai for south Indian vegetarian food. There’s variety of dosas and are delectable. The staffs are also pleasant and welcoming. A must visit restaurant in chennai.
Ordered Saravanan Bhavan Special Quick Lunch yesterday, it was delicious ... one disappointment though, Appalam & Chips wee missing, probably forgotten while packing.
In chili paneer chilli was bit high
Very much known for its brand value offers great south Indian food. You can feel the food quality difference here. All the dosa varieties are great and the sambas tastes really good over here. Try the mini idli with ghee and sambhar here for a great experience.
I love the food it's so awesome... and the rava kesari is so tasty loved it
taste is good and packing is nice
for two dosas, the sambhar was insufficient. I also asked for plates and tissues, they were not provided.
Restaurant is drastically going down since 2017
Chatneis and sambhar was nice. Perfect amalgamation of spices, simple menu, fast service. Overall a good package when it comes to authentic South Indian taste.

HSB is good 90% of the time.
One of the best branches of Saravana Bhavan - with quick service and great food, is the one at Mylapore. Although you might have to wait for a bit here for a table, the wait is worth it. Must haves are their dosas and filter coffees!
The South Indian experience. What you look for when you visit Chennai.
The banana leaf, the crispy appalam, the ghee laden rice.
Ahh the quintessential Tamil Nadu restaurant Sarvana Bhavan.
I had the traditional South Indian thali and really liked the experience of eating from the leaf as the food was brought on.
All the food was delicious and quick service never left me waiting.
Highly recommend!
Hotel Saravana Bhavan
I have been to saravana Bhavan since I was a kid . Very good veg restaurant. Service is really fast and neat . Best food I prefer here is sambar vada and coffee. Other dishes are average. Sambar and coffee over here has a unique taste . Most of the branches are crowded . Parking full . Those are the disadvantages. Pricing it’s sort of neither expensive nor cheap . Veg lovers will have amazing ride .
The quality of food has improved a lot, when compared to my last visit. The substantial price decrease and improvement in quality will pull back its old customer. Need to maintain this taste.
Was walking down north masa street and wanted to get some sweets. So many shops in mylapore , but of course went to saravana bhavan . Didn’t eat dinner or lunch … just got sweets. Quality of the sweet was really good .. price was a little high , but got 4-5 kilos of sweets. Loved Kaju / badam katli… laddu also looked good. Liked it overall. 👍👍👍
Food quality was ok. Serviece was good even if it took a while as there weren't much crowd in the hotel. But there are lots of mosquitoes which kept biting us and feeding on the food. We didn't expect such unhygienic conditions.
Car parking was there. Ample space underground with lift facility as the hotel itself is on the 1st floor. The road is always bustling with huge crowd on the street.
Food quality and taste was good and took longer to arrive even when there was no crowd. Cost is high
Lost a lot of sheen after covid. The place was my favourite bit the food is of same quality and the service is quick. I took a bunch of international tourists there and they took good care of us. My fav is ilter coffee and mini idlis nothing beats that. They have north Indian dishes which are reasonably well made.
A very well known place for south Indian food and always a good option to have a quick bite or for a complete meal.
Ghee Idli is 100% must have.
Great!! for a Thali lunch. Delicious pure veg food. It gets crowded and s ok service might be as little chaotic, but really no complaints. Vegetarian in an old style ambiance done very much the right way. I had the Pongal festival feast meal, bottled water, ice cream, ginger tea and a piece of sugar cane for 262 rupees!!!
Very good place to dine in with family and friends. Food is very good and they take all the necessary precautions regarding hygiene especially considering these times (Covid situation).
Hotel Saravana Bhavan, needs no introduction. Go here for a satisfying filter coffee, dosa and idly varities, medhu vada is equally good here. You get chaat items too and they are quick.

Wonderful atmosphere and food.
Ahh where do i start?
I love love love love saravana bhavan. And im glad to say that my best experience with saravana bhavan branch has been in India itself. This saravana bhavan near kapaleshawarer temple is an absolute best. I had fun.
You should try their vege meals (between 12-4 pm) if im not mistaken. If you missed going during lunch time, there are always other options as masal dosa, paper dosa, chapati or poori with potato gravy. Everything is absolute delicious.
I had good exprience here and would recommend saravana bhavan to everyone.
The food that they serve is of great quality and taste. As chennai is a metro city the prices are higher for example i had ordered a normal filter coffee from this place and it costed 38rs.
