I found this place in google while checking nearby hotels while i was travelling regarding work. I went here with no expectations but overwhelmed by the taste. I had normal veg meals but everything was very good and clean. More importantly meals are just Rs. 80. Totally worth for money considering the quality and quantity.
I Ordered lemon rice, tamrind rice . Good taste . Pocket friendly
Tasty vadacurry and dosa. They have a long list of options and cuisines. They also have an AC section for a relaxed leisurely meal.
100 💯 authentic veg good taste for early hungry ppl
Wanted to taste some lip smacking breakfast so went on with Mami tiffen stall.. as I was solo took take away..
Idli ₹15 each, medium sized soft idlies went well with sambar and red chutney...
Ghee podi dosa ₹60, tiz one was bang on target, one of the best podi dosa I ave tasted, spl mention to Ter podi was different (coarsely powded) n yummy.... "Must try"
Onion Rava dosa ₹55, was not upto the mark was missing crispiness n bit soggy may be parcel effect. Surely will try it hot next time..
Vada curry ₹30, being a very big fan of vada curry, the main reason for getting parcel was solely trying vada curry with different items and turn out to be the star dish of the day.. great consistency and taste was awesome . "Must try"
Service was bit slow they took nearly 20+mints for preparing rava dosa claming onion was not Ter..
Overall good VFM option with some outstanding dishes... Wud Ave rated 3.5 but .5 extra for yummy vada curry.
One among the famous eateries in mylapore region the so called THE MAMI TIFFIN STALL happens to park myself after a divine worship of kapaleeshwarar temple had a geart breakfast in this place the place has both fine dine nd quick bite areas so there won’t b any rush in serving the customers what’s in my pic is masala dosa idli vadacurry filter kaapi jus loved the authentic home touch food nd quick serving too
Binge eating☺️
Highly Recommended!
The food was amazing. Delicious south indian breakfast. I have tried variety of dosas. Overall, good breakfast and value for money
This place was on the bucket list for so long and finally am down here. Everything i had was divine.
The list of wat i had
Kesari
Adai dosa
Plain dosa
Vadacurry
Absolutely divine smell and the authentic taste of the food made me nostalgic and reminded me of home
Was a bit apprehensive while ordering but went with the reviews and this was a absolute deal. Good food and rice upma was a steal so was the quantity. Excellent food and amazing delivery.
If you are looking for a budget, yet tasty breakfast, the right place! The sambar and chutney make one water..
I went here after the kapaleeshwar temple car festival and they served breakfast till 11am.
Staffs were friendly and served the best of coffees!
This place is heaven for all who wants their food to be in the budget. I believe people love food mainly because of the side dish given by the hotel.
If Idly and dosa are good but not sambhar and chutney then people will ignore them. This place has good sambhar and chutney. Coming to food I had onion rava dosa and Adai Aviyal. Both were worth for money.
On the whole, I strongly recommend this place to have your food under budget.
All time Favourite in Mylapore. Love their Kesari, Sundal, Vada Curry to the Core. And all the tiffin Items are really good. Worth the penny you pay for it.
Good food. Tasty. Very reasonably priced.Every time I visit temple (S) here I end my trip with a dining experience here and live to take away some home. Enjoyed their Adai Avial, Rice Uppuma, Bonda
I ordered 2 dosa, food is simply superb. Very good in taste. Sambhar and two chutney given with dosa, all are good in taste and feel like home made food.
One of the best joints for snacks in Mylapore!
Mysore Bonda, Potato Bonda, Vazhakka Bajji, Kozhakattai- you name it, they have it! Kapali Kovil Darshan is incomplete without having a bite at this joint!
Found this place during evening walk in Mylapore. Non AC section has self service and they also have AC section. Staff were good and Ambiance was OK. Price was pocket friendly. The items were served little late but it was worth waiting. Must tries are Ghee Rava Dosa,Ghee Roast Dosa,Samosa and Vazhaka Bajji.
Another very famous eatery near to Kapaleeshwarar Temple in Mylapore. Went with a plan to have breakfast from this place. But ended up reaching only by 11:15AM. They stop serving dosas and other breakfast dishes by sharp 11. So the only options I had was flavored rice, which they have 10/12 varieties. Ordered Lemon Rice which was very nice. They have a self service non ac section as well as a clean AC restaurant section. Definitely going soon and early to try their breakfasts.
Had my dinner with Jefferson Swartz by ordering via zomato..Taste is good but the portion size could be better. Packaging was very good and like to visit it for their special #adaiaviyal
Been eating here for over a decade when the restaurant was initially started. The way they maintained the quality is really appreciated. The highlight is the evening snacks which is tummy filling and delicious. A very good place to eat south Indian food
Ordered Samosas and Chaat for a quick evening snack surprise for our workers - was very apprehensive, but was very happy with the quality - taste & clean packaging + on time delivery - pepped up the crowd and helped us all storm through rest of the work day.
Won't say its mind blowing chaat , but very decent fare, extremely good value for money and something i'll definitely not hesitate to order again.
Have been ordering from this place for a while now. The food is pretty good for a simple lunch or breakfast. The quantity is definitely worth the price. The taste however has much room for improvement!
THE place for a quick bite while you are in Mylapore visiting the Kapali Temple, visiting one of the sabhas or simply street shopping. Food isn't particularly delicious, but uniformly good for the price. They have recently added North Indian menu and sit in dining; I haven't tried those yet and so this rating doesn't apply for that.
Ordered from this place with a little bit of hesitation.Have to say that it exceeded expectations and rates are also resonable.Apart from that was hesitant because this place has a lot of hype.
Should say that the food was fresh, well packed and tasty.Ordered the 🥕 tomato soup which is a must try and also kal dosai.Sambar is mild with less tamarind and light on tummy.

This place was suggested by a friend, pocket friendly, Ac room is available for dine in and self service is also available, the coffee will take you to the next level, must try : adai, ghee roast, coffee...
Would rate it a 3.5(not 4). After visiting kapaleeshwar temple for the first time, we reached out to this place for having idiappam and bonda. But unfortunately, both were sold out by 9pm. As alternate measure, we decided to settle for the parotta-kurma and onion rava dosa.
The parotta was rubbery soft, stretchable till eternity. The veg kurma was a little disappointing, it lacked taste, pretty bland and definitely not to be had cold. And the onion rava dosa was pretty standard. The unlimited servings of sambar and chutneys tempted us to take extra large scoops with every bite of dosa. Especially the red chutney, it deserves a special praise, spicy and tasty.
Hopefully we visit this place on our next visit to Chennai, really excited to try the idli and idiappam. And that concludes round 2 of dinner.
One of the finest ghee podi Dosa for People reaching near mylapore kabaleeshwar temple.
Menu : Ghee Roast Podi Dosa. Filter coffee
Location : Maami Tiffen Stall (Mylapore)
Rating : ⭐⭐⭐🌟
Price : 70₹. 20 rs
Speciality : Adai Aviyal(their signature dish)
Best Breakfast I can say...I visit this place compulsorily on Sunday morning to have their Pongal Kosthu & Ghee Podi dosai... I must say they use very good quality ghee, which you can experience while having Dosa or Pongal...The aroma of the ghee attracts us... A Value For Money place with best quality food. Their Kasi Halwa is such a treat for everyone, with required amount of sweetness, which melts down once you have it...
MY RATING:
TASTE (5/5)⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
COST (5/5)⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
AMBIENCE(4.8/5)⭐⭐⭐⭐
SERVICE (5/5)⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The only drawback is that you cant get there by car, as they dont have a car parking facility... It'll be better if you can go by bike/bus... Overall always a great southindian breakfast experience in Mylapore...
After visiting kapaleeshwarar temple headed here to have breakfast.
Both self service and A/C dining is available.
Ordered idly and ghee Pongal, extremely good. Food gets served in few minutes. I would say that this is one of the best breakfast place in Mylapore.
Totally it coasted ₹85. Completely worth trying this place.
Visited this place during a food walk conducted around the Kapaleeswarar Temple. This place used to be a mess and then expanded into a proper food joint. It’s situated in a narrow street and if you are lucky you would find a parking spot for a two wheeler . If you are on a four wheeler you might have to park your vehicle elsewhere and walk to the place . Once you enter the joint you would find the billing counter on your left , the service area straight ahead and and the dining area to your left and right . The seatings are limited however you can also stand and eat as there are provisions for the same. The food is cost effective and tastes good too . I had tried out their Pongal , vada , Idly and oothappam . Vada/bonda are mostly made and kept . Great place especially for breakfast if you are in that area .
Food : 4/5
Ambiance : 3/5
Value for money : 5/5

After hearing a lot about this shop i planned to visit here for my evening snack...and to be very specific i wanted to try some south India food although they serve pao bhaji and samosa..
So i started off with a podi onion Uthapam and my all tym fav coffee... And
My friend ordered podi dosa..
Both were tasty but i really liked her podi dosa more than mine podi Uthapam may b because they overcooked it a little bit.. anyways it was good not that great...
So to just taste i ordered one samosa which came with one pudina chutney and one red sweet chutney... I didn't like samosa much because of its Masala which was too blunt..
I am giving 4star because its a south Indian food stall and i should not expect them to be very good with samosa and all..
Do try variety of dosa there...👍
Many would be wondering how can a tiffen stall be so special. But trust me. This is one great, authentic and really affordable South Indian tiffen stall. Favorites hangout spot for many CA students including me. I keep visiting this stall everytime I go to Mylapore.

This particular place that is close to the Kabali Koil in Mylapore is one of the famous must-eats both for the locals and the visitors. It was started by Vasantha Mami (as she was popularly referred and that’s how the outlet got it’s name) in 1960’s, it’s still operates from the Pitchu Pillai street, Mylapore. It first served in the evenings from 5 PM to 9.30 PM and then gradually began to come to lunch and then breakfast! They owe their credits to the customers for having given the word of the mouth marketing "antha mami Oru mess mari vechirkanga la, anga nalla iruku. Try panu"! When a new dish the customer asks gets a good response, that was eventually added to the menu and they have reached this big.
They have now added an A/C service hall to it’s side apart from the earlier self-service hall. People throng to both these places and stand in line to get their hands on their favorite item.
That stand to the left the blue shirt-jean guy (see the picture above) is the Sambhar-chutney stand. They fill it up every time its gets over and it’s hot!
1. Adai – INR 60/-
One whole big adai to end your day! I waited for about 10 minutes after giving the bill and it finally got transferred from the adupu to my thattu. They have the avial and வெல்லம் as sides to the adai. The size of the adai shall be more than enough for you to have a complete meal and you shall end it with a glass of hot milk. That’s it, you are done. I asked fr extra avial and the guy filled it in. Thanks man! Vellam is given to detox your body mainly the liver. In some places you also gets Sweet adai wherein they add the jaggery to the adai batter itself and is made in a smaller size. It’s great for children and it’s called as sweet pancakes (:P)! Though the price of INR 60/- seems to be a bit higher, I can recommend it for sure and it’s a must try here. If you like, taste it with Sambhar and chutney and let me know how it is.
2. Ven Pongal – INR 45/-
வெண் பொங்கல் a.k.a sleep drug, is the main starter of every Chennaite at least 2/3 times a week. There is no South Indian who has not had this item. If at all there exists someone, he/she has wasted their life. Getting the pongal, counting and filtering the peppercorns (மிளகு) that are actually good for common cold and throat infections, taking away the ginger that’s hidden inside and finally having a dip in the Sambhar. That’s an experience you must not miss at all. The countless amounts of chutneys and sambhars go into your tummy when you have pongal coupled with vadai. Pongal Vada, Idly Vada, Single Vada, Dosa Vada are all common South Indian breakfast items and now it has reached the north too. Highly recommended, but hey what about the price. Who cares when you get this experience!
Googled this – Eating in a banana leaf is good to your body as the anti-oxidants from the leaf get added to your food and it goes wonders to your body.
It’s great that some old restaurants still follow this and refuse to stop it.
Though I have been to this joint quite a few times, this is the first time I am penning my thoughts about the place. The food here is awesome at awesome prices. I prefer the self service section than the AC hall. You have access to unlimited chutney and sambhar kept in a bucket. Yesterday I had the ghee onion rawa dosa. It was simply mouth watering. So crisp and tasty. Their Mysore bonds, vada curry, ghee roast all good, which I have tried on different times. Forget the ambience and enjoy the fabulous food. Yet to try their parotta . If you around kapaleeshwar temple do go for this place.
4.5/5 i would say.
quality : 4/5
ambience : 4/5
worth for money : 5/5
Good cheap food for people who like vegetarian food and variety rices.
A small stall with no places to sit in non-ac area, but they have ac room with additional cost.
One of the cheapest lunches with decent quality i ever had.
Simple ambience.
A/C works well :-).
Typical South Indian tiffin type menu. Have tried most of their items - idly, various dosas, poori, barista, bajji, samosa etc.
Uniformly good food. Chutneys are usually excellent.
Servers are friendly but can occasionally be a bit slow as they are often chatting amongst themselves.
Forget car parking near this place.
I grew up eating at this place. This place has grown from strength to strength.
The authentic taste of South Indian food. Clearly a must eat place. Traditional and average cost.
Don’t miss the parrotas they make here. Get one and soak it in kurma for a bit and start eating. OUT OF THE WORLD 🌎
If you’re lucky, get their kozhukattais. That’s amazing. They have added some North Indian stuff but to me, Dosas and parrathas are the best.
If you’re visiting chennai, this is a must eat place. Don’t expect 5 star ⭐️ standards. Thats a small restaurant.
A humble place for South Indian tiffin.
The taste is soo homemade which makes this place a must try when you visit Mylapore.
Polite service and numerous cups of sambar. So yaay!
You have to walk to this place or by scooter. Coz, There is space to park your car only on the main lanes that too at your own risk.
I've been coming here since I was a kid and I love this place. I remember the times when it was a very mediocre place but one thing that's hasn't changed it the taste. It's managed to keep that homely touch somehow and I love that they're continuing to do so. The rates are nominal and I like the fact that they decided to keep the standing stations and didn't make it all chairs and tables even though sometimes people prefer to sit and eat. Chaat items are now available but you need to have South Indian food because that's what they're known for so I'd suggest anyone to avoid chaat and North Indian items. Since its close to kapaleeshwarar temple, it's convenient for people coming from long distances to eat and go.
Hyped place, for breakfast -i tried variety lunch here, all dishes were homely style without any over masala or excess oil! but the taste are okayish!
A very high rated idli sambar / south indian breakfast place.
We walked in late and didn't get to taste the idlis. But I had the dosa which turned out equally well as the matsya Sangeetha murugans. Coffee was also quite nice
My all time go to Vegetarian budget spot in Mylapore. For lunch they have a wide spread of Variety Rice. Recently they added a dine in Area. Their most popular one is the self-service Zone. A must try spot in Mylapore.
Pure Vegetarian Restaurant serving since 1969 & till it’s running on. Serving the food very hygiene manner, also the taste really amazing. The best thing in their shop is Vadacurry, Rava Dosa, Vada & Idly. Price is really fair enough for a meal.
Budget friendly Mess.. Authentic Mami's taste. Cost for three people around Rs 240 . They had variety of rice menu along with limited meals . Sambar rice must try it .
We had nice lunch. Food was tasty and service was good.
Small place to dine.
Space is clean and hygienic
Strongly recommended.
Please try when you visit Mylapore Temple.
Mami mess has been there for years together, when I was in School Mami used to sell vadai, bajji, kozhukkattai etc and my friend used to buy and give me (freebies) as I used to travel 20 kms to reach home from school.
Now her son's have taken offer and made its a bigger place with Ac dining facilities and expanded it to a proper restaurant.
You get both authentic as well as contemporary food items
The Mami Tiffin Stall, Famously Called The Mami Mess Is Home-Style Meals Served At Affordable Prices Throughout The Day.
It Is One Of The Famous And Oldest Eateries In Mylapore Started In 1959...
Good pocket friendly restaurant. But there is no place to sit. You have to stand and eat. The podi dosa offered for rs.45 is best there. Very spicy and goes well with the sambar and chutney. You have to visit the mess on Friday for tasting their KOZHUKATTAI.
Experience of a Chennaite who hasn't seen the other part of Chennai despite of being in Chennai for 19 years. I went here with my friends after an early morning ride to Bessy to witness the beautiful sunrise. Yes, that was our New Year celebration.
This is one of the authentic South Indian tiffen stall you get to see on Travel & Living channels. A typical Iyer aathu location. Really warm and welcoming.
The best part about this place is you get to see different people from different backgrounds come here eat the authentic South Indian breakfast.
Ambience - Subtle, compact with limited seats and clean. Open kitchen. Slabs serves as a table. Don't get your hopes up - no chairs.
Service - There's no room for waiting in the queue in their dictionary. The service is very fast. You get to see the chef making hot dosas right in front of you being it an open kitchen. Served hot. When it comes
to sides and condiments it's self-service. Nobody is going to judge you. You can have unlimited sambar.
Taste - The sambar and vadacurry was top notch. The dosa was hot but nothing great about it.
Pricing - A bit pricey for that ambience I would say. Any average teenage could afford a meal there.
Recommendations - Vadacurry ( Tasty and good quantity ) | Puri ( Oil-less and soft ).
What I had - Ghee Podi dosa, Puri and Vadacurry.
Others - For all the Snapchat freaks out there, this is definitely a place to get some good snaps for your stories. Hot dosas, Iyer locality and a guy making hot tea with skills.
One of the best place to check out with your best buddies. I wouldn't recommend this place for families.
Being this my first review, please do like and comment and let me know what would you like to see. Eat hard, workout harder, don't die with regrets. Bon Appetit.
Nadeem Swagath.
Best place for breakfast
Especially their ravadosa and coffee
Gud customer service
Decent pricing
And clean dine in.
Good place for tiffins and snacks. Price are not too high at the same time not so reasonable. They can maintain the place little more cleaner. They will keep extra chutney, sambar near eating tables without proper covering. So please take your own risk, scan the contents and use that :). Hope they see this comment and properly cover them. Bazzi 2 pieces INR 30, aloo bondaa 2 pieces 35, sweet 30.
