I love to eat ghee pongal i do t know y i have a craze of eating that if ur a pongal lover then this is the best place to eat ghee pongal plz visit once
This place still has its old charm. I still think they serve the best breakfast!
The ghee roast and the filter coffee need to be acknowledged because it's really really good! #musttry
The pongal, poori, idiyappam taste good.
The sambar vada would be my favourite and tastes oh so yummy!!!
HSB...This is one of the popular restaurants for vegetarians. I have been here multiple times for the breakfast and my favourite order is idli, ghee roast, pongal and onion oothapam. In this particular outlet they serve idli accompained with white chutney, green chutney, tomato thokku, idli podi and Sambhar.. idli just tastes divine with all side dishes..so you cannot stop with one plate..
Ghee roast ..no other restaurant can compensate the taste of this dosa..so yumm..
I would say above items are must try dishes here. This outlet is non AC one and price is also reasonable.
I would rate this place 4️⃣⭐⭐⭐⭐ jus for Der mooru mooru dosai😍❤️ and the tastiest sambar ever. Saravana bhavan has its own brand value and customer. There are known much for their taste and services.
My happy breakfast will always be from saravana bhavan and not to forget the rich bean flavoured madras kaapi. Simply a delight.
Everyone would have visited this place atleast once in their life. 😂
Their style and neatness is unbeatable. And food quality is not explainable . I noted , nowadays they are growing down. Maybe they are in hangover if success
I didn't got chance to more varieties but taste is worth the price. But coffee is too cost as in coffee day but it's just a normal coffee I didn't understand why it's high price. Just visit it and share your experience
I am one of those 90s batch... who grew along by...when ever it called for a celebration...its need less to be said you are going to visit Saravanabavan... Be it a birthday party or any family celebrations like wedding anniversary....uncles going onsite...its a family get-together place for most of the middle class of those days....for this reason we are still in love with their sambar....but you have to admit that the quality & Service has gone badly these days.....Quantity served is also becoming less...need to act fast if need to stay in the race...one thing i still like is they give vegies sambar and other sides separately on kg basis..with out you having to order any food even over the phone and get it delivered at your door step...
Like all Hotel Saravana Bhawan outlets (read HSB), this outlet also serves amazing local food from Tamil Nadu, ranging from different varieties of Idlis and Dosas to full Thalis.
Their Ghee Roast Dosa, Keema Idli and of course the filter coffee are a must have.
I have been forced to give the rating 4.0 instead of 5.0 to HSB, the reason for this is too crowded and no proper server for the crowd which they receive, when I entered it was almost 2 pm and the restaurant was jam packed and the server even had no time to give the menu card. He told that they have only Spl meals and Tamilnadu Meals, I ordered for a Tamilnadu Meals and Masala Doasi .
The Dosai taste was good but not the best as we get in Anna Nagar branch and other couple of branches and as usual the Sambar and Chutney were good, coming to the meals the silver plate with banana leaf consists of 13 cups,
1. Porial,
2. Kootu,
3. Sambar,
4. Kara Kuzambu,
5. Potato Chips,
6. Beetroot Pachadi,
7. Variety Rice,
8. Rasam,
9. Dhal,
10. Thuvayal,
11. Ghee,
12. Butter Milk and
13. Curd
with a sweet and Chappati and Appalam in a separate plate, costs Rs.230/- which I think was little bit over priced, even though the taste of the meals was good.
Location - 3.5/5.0; Ambience - .3.5/5.0; Food - 4.0/5.0; Service - 2.5/5.0; VFM - 3.5/5.0
I have been visiting this restaurant for ages. It has always been crowded. They have limited seating only and at times you ll have to share with other people. They also have a self service counter which has no seating while you eat. The service is fast and ok.
I love their dosas along with the chutneys they serve. It's super yum and worth it. I have also had their chaat and few other dishes. The food is decent and quality wise it's ok. The pricing is on the higher side which isn't very pocket friendly for a vegetarian restaurant.
This is one place that is a weekly affair for us. Sunday cricket early in the morning followed by a sumptuous breakfast has become a habit now. There is nothing beating the south Indian breakfast taste of HSB. Especially Sambar vadai, Aappam, Masala Dosai and Pongal with the strong filter coffee to finish off.
Service has generally been good since the waiter now would probably know us by names. The habit that has been formed will continue for a long time to come.
This branch on the way to the beach is very convenient to just drive into, order and eat in the car itself. Had dried fruit and nuts rava (semolina) dosa and paneer (cheese) dosa recently. Apart from the classics such as the ghee or paper roast dosas, these were quite good too, worth mentioning these are a must try for dosa lovers. Sambar vada and coffee are also a must try.Muhammad Abdul Qadir
This restaurant is usually a busy one. The food is good here, they are good at south Indian veg food. They have both self-service and service area. The service is good. During busy hours you may have to wait for 5 extra mins for your food to get ready.
Chennai is famous for lot of things and one of it is Saravana Bhavan. It's been really surprising me how they give such a consistent quality on all their branches. There is nothing much to review here. Everything food you order here is very good.
It would have been better if they had AC hall. Yes they don't have AC and it's horribly hot
Family meetup, decent ambience, horrible service, AC was great, normal water was good to drink, had enough car parking and bike parking and the place was too crowded😳😮
The best menu was dry fruits dosa and the panner dosa, soup was just like hot water not worth for the money and to less in quantity.
The panner dry was super great other than the corners were it was cooked more and became black
BABYCORN manchurian was not good at all too oily and nasty, not at all crumsy
No idly no uthappam, no iddiyapam, some dosa varieties were not there😤😤
Other than that all good
BON APPETITE FELLOWS
PEACE ✌🏻️✌️✌🏻
Visited this restaurant after many years and not much have changed except for the price The Masala Dosa and the filter coffee are easily one of the best you can find in here a very good place for a short snack meal anytime...
Good place for authentic south Indian dishes like idly dosa pongal poori & appam. I have tried this place as many times as I want never felt bored about the dishes or the taste it would be good if they had some better staff for service.
No trip to Chennai would be considered complete without a trip to the one and only Saravana Bhavan. We stayed walking distance from this outlet of the restaurant, so it was quite obvious that breakfast on one day was a must.
The food was just average and the place is quite pricey. but its a bucket list item. One plate of idli-vada means 2 idlis or 2 vadas, which is a lot for an individual. The masala dosa was decent. The coffee was pretty good though and i had plenty of it.
I know that this is probably my only visit to this place but it was a fun trip and this was memorable part if it.
Have been coming here practically every third day from the last 7-8 years for its filter coffee, mix- veg paratha (kuttu parota), kadak tandoori roti, yellow dal, fried rice, idli, idiappam, parota kurma & many other authentic south indian preparations. Super fast car & table service. Par excellence hygiene coupled with great tasting food is a reason for calling to 100's of others like me, every other day! Hoghly recommended for a quick bite or a good coffee experience, alone or with a group of friends or family...
@ Saravana Bhavan RK Salai this restaurant brings in a lot of great memories. This is a perfect vegetarian restaurant. Remember visiting this place many times for filter coffee. My favourite dishes are idly sambar, medhu vadha, masala dosa and my personal favourite among favourites is their Pongal. They are crowded mostly during evenings and parking can be a nightmare. This is a must visit hotel if you are in chennai.
It's a great place. Perfect family veg restaurant. I like the South Indian dishes here more than anywhere else. Whenever I visit, my must order is the Rava Khichdi. It is awesome. The sweets and coffee are also great.
Authentic Tamil style food. Lunch thali is pretty good.. Tasty sambar. I love the idly and pongal for breakfast. They have pretty good strong filter coffee.
This place is loved by all, people who live or visit Chennai its a mandatory place for the best vegetarian food. Everything there is a must have. So each time you make a trip to Chennai...try out different items on the menu.Prejith Narayan
All time favourite vegetarian restaurant
No air conditioning
Tastiest veggie food
North Indian , South Indian , Chinese cuisine
Totally a family place
The oldest restaurant of its chain in chennai
Must visit this place
Their barotta , itli and meals are just Indian like and tasty
Home food 😁
They have cakes and chats outside
There are 2 partitions ! A seater and standing Tables
Madras diaries needs pages of this restaurant 🌸
Totally reasonable 😁
For Traditional foodie and thambram's ! This time it's gonna be a touch of Chinese and tandoori . A few modifications made in the preparation and presentation of foods in HSB . Cream of tomato is now tomato shorba rich tomato paste cooked with soup stocks and served with pepper on the bowl. No changes in South Indian menus . Sumptuous sambar idly with ghee ! Rava dosa! Gobi 65! Falooda! Too much oil / butter in pudina kulcha and garlic naan ! Plain naan tastes better and with less oil. Talking about falooda I found semiya was too less on quants! Paneer tikka masala was spicy and classy on tikka style paneer and vegetables cooked with gravy . Prefer not to order wanton fries they take hell lot of time to make . We ordered as starter it was served with dessert at the end ! It's always high on price when we say HSB ! Excellent on quality ! It's always worth it !!!!
After a workout at the beach, headed straight to hsb on cathedral road for the breakfast. Ordered a plate of idly, plain dosa, and idiyappam. Idly was served with pidi. Idiyappam with veg stew was served late as they prepare it in the centralized kitchen. All were south indian authentic food and were great. One issue would the parking and another being their slow service.
Authentic South Indian restaurant with yummy food. I came for a short official trip to Chennai and had lunch over this place - food is too good. I had mini tiffin it has mini idly, masala dosa, Upma & a sweet. Everything is so yummy in here.
I was on a holiday in Chennai and since I am a south indian residing in North India. My craving for idli sambar and hot coffee were maddening. So, this place was on my priority list and made my tummy absolutely happy with the bullet idlis :)
Cost wise and taste wise its satisfying.. The traditional Tamil authentic restaurant with the quality food.. Hygienic ambience.. All the time whenever you go the taste will be same.. You can't forget the taste..
The only veg restaurant on RK Salai as far as I know which is prominent. It has no airconditioning but it doesn't matter when it is saravana bhavan. As usual my favourite is the mini idly, mini tiffin and coffee. The parking gets very difficult during week ends and this might really disappoint you when you want to eat at saravana 's.
The HSB that I have probably visited the most.
Like this branch for its accessibility to the beach/prominent temples in the locality- acts as a perfect brekky place after an early weekend sunrise.
The dining area is retro and the restaurant also has a fast food dining option. In addition, there is separate sweet, bakery and ice cream counters.
Typical to all HSB's my favourite items are: parota kurma, onion rava masala, sambar vada, masala milk (not all their branches used to serve it), chocolate milkshake, etc.
I shall keep revisiting !!
Filter coffee ! 14 Mini idlee soaked in sambar ! Vada sambar ! Mini meals !
Well these classics still tastes the same it used to taste a decade and a half back @ Saravana Bhavan. I guess that the secret sauce of Saravana legacy ! They truly are d Mcdi of India
A place that I blindly pick if there a one in the vicinity for a quick coffee / eat !
Even though it is overpriced, it is the best place to have South Indian breakfast. RK Salai outlet starts serving breakfast as early as 6 AM. You get hot and tasty idli, vada and pongal. The chutneys and the sambar are brilliant. I have gone there for brunch and loved the Paneer Dosa. If you want to have south indian food then Saravana Bhavan is the right place for you.
I just loved the authentic south indian food and super quick service. This place is kinda fast moving food joint where people stop by for quick bite or regular lunch/dinner so expecting too much hospitaliy and lavish ambience is unfair...they do best wat they are known for...serve super quick quality food. I had gone there with a preconceived notion that its a south Indian restaurant but to my surprise it sevres host of north indian dishes as well...menu is actually quite elaborate...i just loved this place...dont miss it
Definitely being an madrasi its obvious everyone all go here if they need an awesome lunch. Meals s fantastic. Starting with soup til ice cream everything s great taste. Only sravana bhavan to maintain this taste til now s mylopore.
My first visit to chennai and first lunch at this place. Fully satisfied with the taste of food. Had special south indian thali and the number of food items were many to my surprise. Rice with ghee and curry leaf powder was treat to eat. Rassam was good. And to finish off with was ice cream and small banana having shape of banana!
Being a chennai vaasi I'm def a fan of idli's and dosa's ! And when it comes to hotel saravana bhavan , no doubt that they serve the one of the best authentic chennai cuisine (esp tiffin) .
Food: I never had complaints on their tiffen items because they are one of the best in town for their flavours and touch of authentic . But lately they have widened the menu to North Indian which is quite interesting so you can taste the North Indian foods with South Indian touch ;).
Never forget their filter coffee !.
Price : totally affordable for any day.
Parking: yes they have a underground parking.
Service:it depends totally sometimes quick but when it's crowded you need to howl to call the server to take the orders .
Happy hogging !
Enjoyed the 'tamilnadu thali' very much, although I must agree that I had slightly higher hopes from this place. Service was good. Overall good place.

+3.5
Standard menu and quality of food, and service as other outlets have. Waiting for a table takes away your interest to try out the specials they offer. Frequented for a cup of coffee after long morning walks on Marina. That's the only time of the day it's less crowded.
My family and I have been frequenting this outlet of Saravana Bhavan for I can't remember how many years (maybe 10 years or more). And there has been no change whatsoever in the hotel apart from additions to their menu.
I honestly don't know where to start.
Breakfast - EVERYTHING is so Good!! Sambar Vada, Idli, Ambassador idli's, Masala Dosa, Ghee roast (YUM), Paneer Dosa, Pongal, Aapam, and Puri, Chapati as well. The chutneys they give (especially the green and tomato) are so tasty.
Lunch - Their Sambar rice with Chips and Curd Rice with Pickle is just way too good. Though at present their Sambar rice has more vegetables from the sambar than the rice itself.
Dinner - Mix Veg Parota, Cauliflower 65, Naan with Palak Paneer and Paneer Butter Masala, Fried Rice are all way too tasty.
Juice and Dessert: Mosambi and Mango juice and Vanilla Milkshake have been my all time favourite here. And their natural ice cream is really good - Strawberry, Pista, Mango and Vanilla (the chocolate isn't too great).
Ah. Writing this review is really making my mouth water.
Service: By now, we are familiar with the staff here, so no complaints.
The only negative is that the place has become super expensive. And while the prices are sky rocketing, the portions are just reducing. e.g., One masala dosa which used to be so filling now gets over in 4 bites. That is something they really need to work on.
Besides this, I have too many fond memories here with family. So I keep going back :)
They dont come much more legendary that Saravana Bhavan. And this is one of their earliest locations in Chennai, making it that much more special.
Some parking, runs out quite quickly. There is an alley nearby though, which is useful.
This is a bhavan, which means no air conditioning, no decor, pretty much nothing but super authentic, piping hot south Indian comfort food!
As always, service is very professional, bordering on brusque. Though with the perennial crowds, its hard to fault the waiters for not being chatty.
Food is just spectacular. It doesn't get much more authentic than this. South Indian comfort food, dripping with ghee and a sambar that cannot be imitated. The quality has never wavered, and makes this a safe place to take out of towners for a taste of old school Madras food.
Pricing is reasonable. Inflation had caught up with them just like it has everyone else, but we still left with wallets as heavy as our stomachs.
Overall Conclusion: breakfasts do not get much better than this. In fact, this is Chennai on a plate. Unique, and a must visit for anyone new to the city

Nice ambience. Well maintained. Service was good n the food tasted excellent. Minimal car parking n bike parking on the road side. One should taste hot badham milk here at night..good one..over all nice experience.
The service is reasonably fast, not as fast as some of the other saravana bhavans. The place is clean and it’s an AC restaurant.
If you are banana leaf thali fan, this is a must try place. I tried rava kesari, Goni 65 and filleted coffee. I like all of them except Hopi 65.
The food is great and they have sweet and snack section too.
I highly recommend this place.
The hotel has vacated the older location and moved to a side street close by. The interiors are cramped, compared to the spacious hall earlier. This is an old house converted, so they didn't have the flexibility beyond a point.
But the food makes up for it. The 14 idlis immersed in the rich sambar. Few hotels have managed to make this a standout recipe. And the mini tiffin combo combines all of the hotel's heyday dishes into a single plate. 5-6 mini idlis. A mini masala dosa. And Pongal. As well as a rava kesari sweet. And a Vada.
The coffee looks light but the taste is true to an old memory. It's not back to its old form yet.
But it is good to see an old favourite pick up the threads and weave the old magic
The Ambience and location makes this a wonderful location. It has an old house feel which goes well with classic South Indian food items.
Service is Fast and standard Saravana Bhavan Menu is available.
Ample parking available and it's located bit off the main road so lesser noise.
The food is great! And the filter coffee is amazing! But the service quality has gone down a bit. Any time of the week, they look understaffed, taking so much time for an order. Please do improve that.
I've always been a Saravana Bhavan and have been eating here since 1995. I really love their take on North Indian food.
This place has moved from its previous location on Cathedral road to this new location. It's ready to miss.
The food is as expected and is really good. We had the mixed veg parota, onion rava dosa and chole poori and all were really delicious. The Idiappam was not that great and can be avoided. Coffee was good.
However service was very poor. It took the kitchen 45 minutes to make the mix veg parota and 30 minutes for juices.
A very good vegetarian restaurant. They do have a lot of varities of veg dishes. Has good soup and also the Mini Idly is a famous dish.
They do have wonderful filter coffee too.
The hotel is very neat & clean and also they have good sweets too. This is situated inside a lane and to spot it from the road is a bit difficult
A fine morning I went marina beach with my kids and family members, all are enjoyed in marina Beach. After playing in the beach all kids are in hungry around 7:30 in morning itself. As I am not much profession of hotels located near by, so find this hotel by Gmaps and drive through the hotel and reached. The hotel is running in a apartment styled house.... We ordered mini Tiffin and poori items... The food taste is OK.... The poori kilangu is too salty... So kids took poori with coconut chutney....filter coffee is a good finla touch by me... Overall can visit at once. Price wise felt expensive.... May be the located area is also a reason...
New location. Converted a home into a restaurant. Taste is good but the food is not fresh.
If you want to have good South Indian food sarvana Bhavan is the best . Get best of Dosa, hot idli varities, filter coffee and much more.. Spacious and good for family and for family functions like get together, birthday party. Taste at its best at Saravana Bhavan. Happy meals at Sarvana Bhavan
Great interior, very famous in Chennai for all type of cuisine. I liked coffee and a south indialn meal. Which was awesome.
