A very good place to have chat items that are freshly made as soon as we make the order . Their vannila ice cream is my favorite its about 55 rs and is serverd in a normal cone but it is much tastier and creamier than the other ice creams.

The legendary Gangotree opens an outlet at EA mall. For those who want a quick bite or those having a sweet tooth, this is a must stop while strolling through the shopping arcade. Costs are very reasonable and while the expensive brands in the mall may burn your pocket, Gangotree won't.
Its a great place to have chaats. Everyone in Chennai knows it. Authentic proper north Indian chaat. Not the pretend chaat we see in so many places. This is a stand and eat kiosk. but the packaging and quantity is decent. Only gripe? A very gruff man at the counter. I mean, he is sour all the time! Kyun bhai? It does not take money to smile! And yes, a wee bit pricey these days.
You can never go wrong with the Chaat from Gangotree. My personal favourite would be the Vada PAV (comes with a chilli bajji and green chutney) and rabadi malai here.
However, this particular outlet tends to be crowded at most times and service could be a little slow and sometimes a little messy.

Best Chaat items. Quality comes first when we eat at Gangotree. My most favourite is their Ice Tea. Fresh and Really Iced. Most of us will be drained by our shopping in the mall and this drink is a real life saver.

I have had better Pani Puri for 10 bucks but yes at the compromise of hygiene. So that's the catch. Every outlet of Gangotree is extremely clean and hygienic.
Gangotree offers a very good range of savouries. Since it is in Chennai, it is unique because we don't find very good restaurants for North Indian snacks easily in here.

Gangotree is one of the safe chat shop to give a try. Today I went to Express Avenue mall for shopping. Being evening time felt hungry. Opted to have here. It is located in basement 1 of the mall near escalator to ground floor. No tables and chairs to sit. Just like a fast food.
We ordered Vada pav, Bhel poori, Jhal mudi and pav bhaji. Vada pav was hot and tasty. Bhel poori is good. Jhal mudi is decent, hint of lemon is more. Pav bhaji was not that great. Price is reasonable considering its location and quality. Can give a try.

Situated in basement of EA mall, is a small joint which serves chat items (Sweets and Mixtures are missing here), had Pani Purii and Bhel Puri. This is one of the finest chat shops in Chennai where you can get excellent pani puri, bhel puri and other chat items. The Pani Puri and Bhel Puri served here is mouth watering and tastes terrific.

I didn't even know Gangotree existed at EA initially. It's located at basement one of EA where people don't go much. Only when we were searching for Big Bazaar, we stumbled upon this place. As soon as we saw this place, we started craving for chats 😜 Until then we were normal 😝 There is no seating available. That's the biggest con for this place. They could put some stools or chairs without any tables around the place.
Service - Service was lightning quick. It wasn't much crowded when we went. Got the bill and gave it at the next counter and our dishes were ready in the next two minutes.
Food - Our orders were:
👉 Masala Channa - The quantity was more. It was given in a sturdy plastic container. So it was easy for us to carry it and walk around. It was prepared well and tasted really good. The masala had the perfect level of spiciness and the channa was soft and cooked well. We enjoyed it.
👉 Channa Samosa - This was also given in a sturdy plastic container. I think they used one huge samosa with the channa. This was a little spicier than the masala channa. The quantity was ample with this one too.
Paid somewhere around 200/-. Don't remember the exact price as I visited this place about a week ago. Even though it's a little costly, the food satisfied us very much. If we were able to sit and enjoy it, I would have rated this place even more.

Situated in the basement of EA mall...it was my first visit at a gangotree outlet...i had the pani puri and sev puri. Pani puri i must say was really good with chilled pudina water and tasty...the sev puri was sort of a deconstructed sev puri...not the usual ones where it is arranged well. There is no dine-in seats available....u hav to either stand there and eat..or parcel.

Well who doesn't like Gangotree. The place serves some delicious Chat items my favourite being pani puri. They even have ice creams in their menu. The most crowded place in Express Avenue mall in Chennai. Way to go.
Whenever i think pani puri the only destination strikes my head is gangotree. Best place to have pani puri in Chennai. If you are a pani puri lover just don't wait go for it, but when coming to price it burns your pocket a little. 50 for 5 puris. You'll feel it costly before you have but after having pani puri, you'll just get drowned in it's taste. Yummy.

Crowded small place offering lipsmacking chaat and mouth watering sweets. Churmur chaat, raj kachori , pani puri and Paneer grilled sandwich were some of the items I had that day. Totally worth it.

My most favourite chat shop ! PANI PURI , the only chat I have quite often and I don't mind going for another one. It's a very small place where you could collect your chats and walk away 😁 this is basically in the ground floor of express avenue , a mall at royapettah .
The only decent eatery that offers something close to the roadside pani puri flavor. But their Dahi chaats are sometimes diluted :/ Anbiance is fine. Service is moderate.

Located inside Express Avenue is the biggest reason for me to grab their chats often. Each time I drop their for shopping it's the Pani Puri or the Vada Pav that drag me there. It's located on the ground floor near big bazaar so the major issue is the crowd during weekends and you have to eat similar to Kaiyendhi Bhavan.
This is a small outlet that mainly serves you with chats and drinks. As far as the food and taste goes they are yum. My favorites are the Vada Pav, Pani Puri and Dahi Bhel Puri. The price we pay for the chats is definitely on the higher end. Also the Quantity is less considering price we pay. There is nothing to comment about the service considering a food court but they can be faster in preparing the chats.
Overall, it's the taste and the handy location that makes me visit Gangotree often.

This is the only Gangotree visited more than once among the other outlets in chennai,since it's only chat shop inside express avenue mall, barring the ones in food court.
It's located in the basement floor of EA, among few other outlets & big bazaar. Only problem here is its like kaiyendhi bhavan , where your get dish, stand & eat.
They make the chaats in the open,you can clearly see that it's not cleaner like you expect. they can Definetely maintain cleaner.
I have tried various chaats here. I have liked all of them. It served hot as you expect. No complaints on the taste. Definetely of the good chaat shops in chennai.
Cost wise , its a bit expensive for a chaat. But it's located inside a famous mall & its one of the cheaper option to have quick snack among the other options, which are even more expensive than Gangotree.
To conclude,a decent chaat shop in Express Avenue, recommended for quick bites when you are hungry & don't wanna have proper meal. A bit expensive, but its pretty common among the outlets in EA.
As a Food enthusiast, this is the first time exploring the other North Indian Chats.
My usual would be Dhai Papadi Chat, which is my favorite and They have been consistent in their tastes and flavors. They are exquisite, simple but they give a burst of flavor as they are tasted.
I tries their Sev Puri and Pani Puris, Sev Puris was something different that I have never had before (Different Good). Their Pani Puris were amazing and the pani was really good. Since it was my first time with the other North India chats, I seem excited.

After a long shopping session in EA,Gangotree is the perfect place for a light snack.The quantity and quality definitely makes up for the price.Definitely VFM. The only glitch is the customer service which is practically zero.The servers look at you like you are beggars at their doorstep.Really rude.If you are willing to ignore that then it's definitely a yummy experiene.
I am from mumbai and Gangotree is a bliss for me in chennai when I miss the mumbai chaat. Papdi chaat, dabeli, vada pav are my favourites and would highly recommend these. The packed snacks like bhakarwadi and papdi, sev are extremely fresh and crispy. I end up buying these to take back home whenever I go to Gangotree. Very easy on the pocket and good experience for the money you spend. Love Gangotree!

If you are fan of the snacks from the origins of North India and you need redemption after being in Chennai, then you can definitely try out this outlet.
Although, I would believe its a little too expensive when it comes to the per plate cost of each dish, I would be rather emphasizing on the point that they are able to do justice to some delicacies like Bhelpuri, Savepuri, Dahi papdi, Pav Bhaji, Golgappa, Papdi Chaat etc.

My sister will kill me if she see this review. She says Gangotree is costly but then in a place like Chennai, where authentic Chaat Items are a miracle, Gangotree is god sent. If you are a chaat items fanatic then this is the place for you.
Since this is not a hotel and it is actually a small eatery. I guess I can't say much about the location or ambiance. So I will give a brief review as a whole. This place is easy to spot right opposite to the escalator in the basement of EA. The service is really quick and swift, however the staffs/employees are really very rude and unfriendly. I at times feel that they are too bossy. Customer service is somewhat pretty low.
Coming to the taste, the chaat items are 95% authentic and really tasty. The 5% is taken away since the Dahi used at times are either too sour or too sweet.
The cost for two people varies from 200-300. The VFM is average, since I have been to other places outside Chennai a lot of times, and had chaat in splendid places, I feel the rates are costly here however compared to other chaat places in Chennai, this is very worthy.
Note: Try this place if you are a Chaat fanatic!

A day at Express Avenue can be nothing shot of tiring and I believe It is not well spent until you grab a Bhel or a Pav Bhaji from the Gangotri stall downstairs.
Gangotri has been a popular name for ages for its Bengali Sweets, savories and chaats and this mini Express Avenue outlet serves express Chaat for those who are in mood for a quick fix.
Over the years, I have personally tried Bhel Puri from many many places but nothing can compete close to Gangotree in terms of taste and crispiness. Their pani puri is equally popular and if you don't mind standing in line for it, you got to try it. I love it the half khatta, half meetha way ;). Their Pav Bhaji's are sinful with the butter glazed buns and the perfectly mashed bhaji.
What I also love about them is that, in this Express Avenue outlet they give you a huge portion in plastic cups. The Bhel or Mixed Chaat is around Rs. 50 and I think the quantity is enough to make a meal out of it :) I have always loved going with a friend ordering two different things so we can dig on each other's all the way back home!
Only downside of course there is no seating here and it could get crowded in the evenings, but well this is meant to be like a fast food counter, so you have to give the ambience a miss.
Overall, I must say - nothing stands close to their taste and I will forever be a patron grabbing those plastic cups on every visit to EA!

One of the best pani puri (crunchy and tasty) If u like spicy please go for spicy water for pani puri it’s a must try. They also has softee ice cream and they are a must try too- chocolate dip softee was very good. A must try place with people during weekends.
The moment you enter first floor, straight from parking spot, Gangotree doesn’t miss your eyes. One of my favourite shop where gol gappas are my favourite. A small shop in square format with one side billing and other side cooking the dishes. Though their chaats are famous, you should try their veg cheese sandwiches.
I ordered chenna samosa, they were heavenly. Blend of chenna in samosa gravy is very very mouth watering. I tried their golgappas, their pani are spicy that plain sukha golgappa soothens the spicyness. A must visit shop for chaat lovers in express avenue.
Definitely a good place to have a quick bite of your favourite snack/chat item! Their Pani Puri and Bhel Puri are undoubtedly the best sellers! They also sell grilled sandwiches and a variety of flavours of Badam milk drinks. The only problem is that the place is really small and you will have to do the eating part standing. If the mall is crowded, this could be a bit of an issue, else this is definitely worth your money!!

This one is in the basement of Express Avenue. One of the best places to get Snacks (Chaat items).. Best known for Pani Puri, Bhel Puri and few other Chaat items. So check the menu for some delicious mouth watering items. You'd also get strawberry milkshake there. The prices are average and Ra.300/- should be enough for 3-5 members basis what you choose to eat. No place to sit here but it's a quick serve.
If you are looking good chaats. This place is really good. Dahi Puri was excellent only the quantity was less. Their price is little bit on higher side
