Ordered Kappa beef biriyani.. Nice tastey one. Packing is good. Main good thing not over powered with spices.. Good amount of beef pieces too
The Puttu and the Kadala curry tasted awesome. It tasted homely and the gravy wasn't overpowering. Ordered Appam along with chicken curry and it was good. The karimeen porichathu looked awesome, might try it the next time. Good food, light on the tummy and very light on the pocket :)

Healthy food that tastes just like home :) Their Veg meals along with Beef Roast is my favourite. Fish pothichoru is yet another favourite and my go-to weekend lunch :)
Quite difficult to find the venue.
Super quick service
I just loved their Appam and prawns.
Other items were not that great.. The mallu finish was missing. Still not a bad place to hangout.
Ambience 4/5
Food 3/5
Overall a good place.
Today visited Kumarakom for lunch and ordered Kerala meals with squid roast. The food is amazing with the real Kerala flavour. Ambience is very good with limited seating. The service of team was excellent. The food is delicious and value for money. Extremely satisfied with the visit
A true kerala restaurant with all varieties back from home. Taste is good and service is nice. Can go with confidence and bring friends who love kerala food.
Such amazing place for having KERALA dishes... Gods Own Restaurant in CHENNAI for Gods own people.... 😋 Beef Ularthiyatu is the highlight over here...
If you're looking for Authentic Kerala food on a budget, then Kumarakom is the place to go to. Their meals are less than 100 bucks and it's all you can eat. The beef ullarthiyathu, Ayla fry, prawns masala are the non veg dishes I've tried so far and it tastes just like it should - flavorful & tasty. Appams & Porottas will not disappoint. And if you want to try something different, do have their kappa with fish curry!
The restaurant is a very simple setup - nothing grand. And the bathrooms are clean as per minimum requirement.
The restaurant is all about value for money.
Tasty non-veg dishes. Best place for families and bunch of friends. Also easy to find the place, even if it is little far from Roundana-Thirumangalam main road. Nice ambience.
We have ordered through swiggy.
Item name - Karimeen tawa fry.
Taste - Very good and able to sense the freshness of the fish.Keep up the good work guys.
Will try to order again soon.
Despite the multitude of relocations I find myself dropping by this restaurant every time I’m in Chennai. I daresay this place always manages to shrink in area from its predecessor place. The ambience of this is place mildly lit and somehow lacks the right amount of lighting. The food however balances the dull ambience. My standard order is usually the Kerala paratta with Syrian beef fry, appam and the chicken stew. Color me generous but I think they all deserve a solid 5 star on my palette meter. I personally am not a fan of Kerala rice so I avoided getting meals. The jeera water (cumin seeds) served along with meals is now replaced with a paler tasting off pink colored water which as been a let down as I’ve always looked forward to it. No complaints on the service, pretty much on point.
A decent place for kerala cuisine. I had tried their unlimited meals and beef ularthiyathu and fish fry.All tasted average and their unlimited meal was sumptuous. The only thing lacking is the decrease in the quantity of beef (and other non-veg) served.
Quality and Quantity: moderate
Pricing: average
Service: good
Ambience: very good
i ordered, crab chilly masala, idiyapam, kerala paratha, egg appam, chickrn gravy, in tat kerala paratha was below average, idiyapam was good, crab was also good, gravy was good...,
place nd service were aslo good..., i liked it..., rate was also reasonable...,
Can go back again and again just for the Kerala Parotta and Chicken Curry.. And the prices are just right too! Highly recommended.. The menu in zomato seems to be an older one though - prices have risen since, though only marginally, and still great value
Typical kerala cuisines. Authentic taste. My personal favourite, kappa and beef curry. Quantity as well as quality, bith are at par. Delivery service is very quick as well
Very authentic kerala cuisine at very much affordable price. Their speciality is their kappa and beef curry. Must try for all mallus....................................................
Kumarakom is always the best option for lunch and dinner. Egg Appam and kadalai kozhambu was divine. Addictive lunch if expect good meals with unlimited option in anna nagar.
One of best authenticated Kerala restaurant in considerable cost ... good ambiance ! Accessibility is good very near to tower park ! Be it family or couple best place to hangout
Located behind anna nagar connexions, the road opposite to tower park main entrance.Have visited them five to six times. Grt food and price. Have tried their aapam, puttu, egg curry, egg masala, kadala curry, malabar veg biryani. Aapam and egg curry or puttu witht egg curry are recommended for eggetarians. Kadala curry was not to the point just okayish. Definitely reecommended. Also the prices are very pocket friendly.

One of the best places where we get authentic Kerala food in Chennai. Best combo is Kerala meals, fish varathuarachathu and karimeen pollichathu.
I'm a customer of kumarakom for around 10 years by now. Used to visit since they had branch in shanthi colony. They serve authentic kerala dishes and goes there when ever feels like having kerala food and was never disappointed, be it the food or service. Very friendly service. Favourite dish here is beef ulathiyathu along with appam.
Good food, service & ambience ,feel like home with kerala food,my favourite spot all the time
One the best keralite restaurant chain in chennai. You can experience some exotic mallu food varieties here. Dont miss prawn masala with egg appam, crab soup, pomfret polichadhu... great food...
Being a Malayalee in Chennai, Kumarakkom is one of the places where you can get traditional Kerala food.
Visited this outlet a couple of times for lunch and most times found it really difficult to get a table. There is atleast a 15 minute wait especially during the peak hours.
The food is quite good, authentic Kerala stlye food but nothing over the top. I go there mainly for the Kerala rice. The pricing is a little high compared to the quality of food they provide.
Overall an average experience.
U want kerala food ?
This is the place u shud definitely try once.
Everything is within the budget, good homely atmosphere, spacious too.Have to go a bit inside to find the restaurant.
A nice place delicious kerala meals. My all time favourite is kumarakom special chicken fry. It simply outstanding. Also nice service u will get from here. Nice place for good lunch
This is my favorite place to have lunch if I visit chennai...
They have almost all Kerala food with authentic taste.
Try their beef ularthiyathu...
Service is very good...
My association with Kumarakom goes years back from my college days. It has always been our go to place for a homely lunch. And after shifting places Kumarakom is still my go to place for a lunch. Its a budget restaurant that serves you decent Kerala dishes which makes my craving for home food a little less.
The sea food is their specialty with almost all the dishes served well. And off course who will forget the Beef Ularthiyathu. I can have even 3 plates at a go. They have also introduced the Kuluki Sarbat which is a spicy refreshing drink.
I cannot write a lot wrong about this place as eating in Kumarakom has been the same as eating from home. The friendly staff who know me well by now and the house converted restaurant gives you a good feel to be back again.
One of the nicest South Indians I have ever eaten in. Prompt and friendly service and tasty food... what more do you want? I personally think the menu is a little on the pricey side - but this is compensated for by generous portion size and outstanding quality. The service too is great and excellent place to dine at.
Been a while since I've been here, but I remember the beautiful Kerala food I got here. It was so delicious. The kappa (tapioca) and meen (fish) curry combination was fantastic. Soft sweet appams and delicious rich coconut milk stews. Chewy peppery meat fries. Classic Kerala food.
Food was nice and recommended.most delicious were deserts-vanilla and especially payasam is a must! service need push up- on arrival staff met us at door and seemed so surprised that forgot to greet us. After embarrassing moment of silence, I had to step forward and ask if he would offer us table for 3. During our meal we had several requests regarding food which seemed to be forgotten- so these small things didn't make best impression. All I can say- if I'm back in town, will give this place a try again

We visited Chennai for 3 night mid week break. I looked up at various websites to get some tips on a good restaurant in the town. This reviews made this restaurant stand out from the rest, the food was so good we ate here 2 nights out of a 3 night visit to the town. We were greeted by a very friendly young staff who was very helpful when explaining the menu. The young guy who brought us our dishes was also very courteous. We tried different dishes on both nights we visited and I have to say we were not disappointed with anything. The restaurant has a lovely decor and is spotless throughout. The prices were much the same you'd expect to pay anywhere else. Overall we loved this place and only wish they had a restaurant in Hyderabad.
This is a lovely restaurant... I personally think this is a great restaurant... The food here is good but not too great. It is a good restaurant for family usage, but if you are a professional for taster, this is a "OK" your out restaurant.
we went here having read the reviews. The staff are great fun and really willing to work for your enjoyment. The food is really great, very rich and the servings are very big, so go there hungry. But visit here with ear plugs. it is so incredibly noisy, as there are no soft furnishings at all to absorb noise, so as the restaurant fills up the sounds becomes almost intolerable. But worth the visit and very good value for money.
My wife and I went here for lunch last week. Really lovely place. Fabulous decor and really lends itself to sitting around having a dish. Food was excellent. Agree with all the positive comments. The staff are friendly, professional and always ready to provide you top notch service. The menu too is very great with a wide variety of dishes.
I was in chennai for 4.5 years and was regular customer here on weekends. The quantity and quality of veg meals is too good. Typical kerala taste and they are not stringent on the quantity. the fish curry has its own good and bad days. if they serve it good on one day, the next time it wont live upto expectations.
Update-- Did not Match up to its 'said' standard. This place is no dine in. I had earlier said it was Strictly a take away place. This time I got to see in and around. this restaurant has a weird seating. it seems as if someone's house has been converted to a restaurant. the seating arrangement is random. On asking around I did not get much clarity.
Moving on to food,
This time I ordered prawn biryani. 4/5 after the Kerala biryani fiasco this was surprisingly good. a bit on the oily side. The veg thali was pretty good and sufficient. Buttermilk was spicy. Chicken biryani spicy. Prawns fry was good. Falooda was mediocre. Also Malabar parathas were good. However i had found a hair in it. So hygiene of the place maybe questionable.
Earlier -I ordered for malabar chicken biryani and prawn masala. Prawn masala had a North Indian tinge to its gravy. Small sized prawns were used and very less amount of prawns in the dish. Coming back to biryani, it looked a lot like the biryani I had in kerala, but the spice was missing. Their biryani is on sweeter side. Also it did not taste fresh. Chicken was over cooked. Over all it needs a lot of improvement.
Thanks to my friend Akash who had suggested this place and what an astounding experience. Food exceeded expectations, both our starters and main courses were quite superb, as was the shared dessert. Portions plentiful so you need an appetite. Delightful staff add to the quality.
Highly recommendable.
We had the starters, the main couse and the chineese - it was fabulous. The food was different. All the courses were delicious but my favourites were the Chemeen roast and the Malabar meen curry. As it was a special treat we also did the refreshments and were pleased we had as the different refreshments accompanied the food perfectly. The staff were really attentive and the place was very welcoming, not at all stuffy as you might expect from a restaurant at a city. I would recommend it for a special treat and if I'm ever back in Chennai, would definitely book a table.
Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch in Kumarakom. Staff were very friendly and pleasant. The food was great!!
Our starters were the sweet corn chicken soup and kalmi kebab. Both were delicious, hearty and consumed quickly licking our lips.
The main course of mushroom masala and duck roast were devoured as quickly as the starters. There was plenty of it too ( as I'm a big eater) which pleases me even more, but the fresh and tasty meals defied their prices.
The staff put us under no time pressure to order dessert, we were pretty full!!
With the quality food, we will be back here again in not too distant future.
Good place to have Tasty food. It taste like homemade one. They have converted a big house to a restaurant. So you wil feel being in home. Nice service too.
Visited here for lunch last week and had the meen vattichathu and Chicken roast. Would highly recommend this menu. Food was delicious, well presented and well introduced by waiters. There was no rush on the table which added to the experience. Will definitely return.
We went to this Restaurant for my friend's birthday while I was in Chennai for a month.
We had the Malabar fish curry which was fantastic. The menu list was extensive and the service first class. The web site said that the restaurant was from 12 to 4 pm at noon, we love a long lunch and left at 4.00 pm and had a great day.
A lovely introduction to fine dining for my daughters, who were well behaved.
Food was fantastic and so memorable and delicious. Excellent crab soup to start.
We had 3 course set lunch and it was presented in a nice manner and it was fabulous to taste. The staff were friendly and professional.
Great value for this kind of cooking.
Go!
Want to a memorable dining experience, then Kumarakom is a sure spot you must not miss to visit.
This is one of my favorite spots for dining.I always hang out with my friends, cousins, family. It never had disappointed me. Always had thrilled me.
The menu is wonderful with Kerala style food at reasonable prices. The staff is also fabulous.
This place is like a home for me as a malayalee , once in a week me and my friend has lunch here , the Kerala meals is just homely , porata is to my liking malabarish , beef , curries and their kulukki Sarbath is all great .. It's not a looker when it comes to ambience and interiors but their service is friendly . This is the best and the most authentic Kerala restaurant in chennai ,it's not fancy like the other Kerala restaurant in Anna Nagar but it has a feel of a restaurant you see in Kerala..
Probably the best place in Chennai as far as Kerala cuisine is concerned.
They offer a wide variety of tasty kerala dishes.
Table reservation is almost always required.
I was lucky enough to be invited by friends to join them at the Kumarakom last night. Amazing food, excellent desserts and very friendly attentive staff! I loved it. The menu was varied and it was really liberating not to have to choose but to be served dishes that I may not have chosen myself normally. Tapioca... But not as i remembered it from my childhood .. chicken, duck, various fish courses and to finish, chocolate ice creaml!! Delish!
The waiter was friendly, funny and very happy to discuss any of the dishes with us, as were any of the staff we met. True professionals.
Two of our group are vegetarians and I'd happily have had their menu. A big hit and one to be repeated another time... Thank you everyone at Kumarakom
Thanks to this place for helping me discover Kairali and Malabar cuisine. This place is a delight for non vegetarians. It tends to get crowded on weekend lunch hours thanks to their thali and if you want to have more than just a quick nie meal, it is best to visit during dinner hours.
The menu is quite large and even includes non Kairali dishes but it is pointless to order those here. If you have had prior experience with Kairali cuisine, then you will know what to order. If not then do try the Karimeen Polachitu, Chicken Malabar Curry and Sear Fish Fry with Appam and Rice. You will definitely want to come back again t this place after your first meal.
We had a birthday dinner during the winter break and needed a restaurant that provides great service and great dining experience. The Kumarakom came well recommended and we were impressed on arrival with the warm reception. We really enjoyed the selected tasting menu. The karimeen pollichathu was terrific. The dessert was also amazing.
I'm a huge foodie and also a chef by trade. I visit here for lunch and dessert today. Start to finish I could not fault the experience. The seating was so comfortable. It was cozy and warm. I don't think anything is overpriced because in my opinion you pay for what you get. All desserts are homemade and excellent which is hard to find these days. Well done!! Happy foodie.
I found this place here on Zomato as I was looking for a meeting place to meet some family members. It looked fab online and the reviews are excellent. I needed to book a table for 7 people so I contacted on the number provided in the website. It was so helpful. Arrived at 12 noon to a busy cafe but our table was reserved as promised. Super-efficient service by the staff who greeted us and also by the staff who served us. We initially were only meeting for snacks but ended up having lunch as our mouths watered as we saw others getting their food. It was yummy!!
The photos are exactly how it is inside but u have to see it to believe it and the food is cooked fresh it's amazing. Only fault!! I live too far away to make it there regularly
Went wid my sis for lunch.. Had Malabar Chicken Briyani,Chilli Beef,Schezwan Chicken Noodles,Karimeen Pollichathu & Ice cream ! Briyani was Gud wid enuf quantity,Beef was sooooo gud,Noodles was tooooooo spicy,Karimeen shuld hve cooked little more & Vanilla ice cream was served two scoops (We ordered this because of the spice in noodles) 😖
When here for lunch with my fried .. Din realise it's a mallu restro until I stepped it .. The water was pink 😍.. Had kappa and beef roast 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😜.
He had meals with beef dry .. They had the dishes in mallu names as well
What's a weekend away without great dinner, anyway?
We went on last Saturday and the place was buzzing. Although I have a feeling this place is always busy and will be for quite some time.
The staff are generous and well mannered. They helped us to find a table for us, also helped us to make our order. They have good knowledge about the dishes.
The food was so tasty that you will be disappointed by the cost of the food. The prices are very fair for the good quality of the food and it is also in plenty.
I arranged a family meet up here for afternoon tea. I rang ahead in the morning to verify the number in our group and if they could accommodate us to be seated together. There was no problem for the staff in accommodating us and they welcomed us with tables ready for us at 3 pm. There were twelve people in our group including a baby, toddler, child, teenagers and adults. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food was really fabulous, and presented beautifully. The decor with a mixture of vintage themes and colors was very pleasing. The staff looked after all our needs and put no pressure on us to finish up or move on. We relaxed with our family until the restaurant was due to close. The baby was happy, the toddler was happy, the teens were happy and the adults were happy too!!Thank you for the memory, we will definitely return to make some more.
Wanted to try this place for quite some time and went for lunch yesterday.
This authentic kerela restaurant turned out to be more than our expectations. Just loved the meen fry and beef roast. The parottas were amazing and the meal which my hubby ordered looked yum. Decently served for a thali. Will try the kerela meals the next time for sure.
Tried their beef roast and Porotta last Sunday.
It was incredible. Definitely worth the price we paid, authentic Kerala food.
Their Chilly Beef was also good.
