One of the excellent place to have Russian food here in Chennai!! The place is calm and good. The restaurant is so good.
Watched the Russia - Croatia quarter finals and the crowd and ambience and enthusiasm was mind blowing ....
Wonderful service and delicious food. Definitely a place to chill out and relish the moments. This place has the magic of creating a lasting memory.
One of the best restaurants in Chennai for ethnic foods and they serve truly authentic Soviet cuisine. Chef Sergey is awesome
Its a Russian origin food that people really like to have, especially for people who likes to have non veg, like pork, beef, fish, & russian traditional beer called kvass, i really recommend people who eats non veg to have a real test of meat.
Amazing ambience and amazing food.
Winter Palace is the perfect place to watch World Cup Games 2018 (Vanakamp WorldCup!) It is the only place in Chennai where you can enjoy authentic and genuine experience of Russian hospitality and fairytale environment of the first World Cup in Russia. The games are projected on a big screens on the terrace and inside the Restaurant.
Right at the entrance you are greeted by Zabivaka (world cup mascot) and you and you friend can make selfies with him. After that you are welcomed by Olga C. (famous surfer) who takes your predictions for the game happening this day. You can also meet Olga K. the heart and the spirit of Vanakamp WorldCup 2018! Olga C. is very diligently maintaining statistics of all the games. Both Olgas dressed in elegant Russian football uniforms and painted in the colours of the Russian flag make your heart beating faster and faster!
All customers and guests give their predictions and if you are lucky you get a prize and a discount at the restaurant (I had two correct predictions and am very happy with my souvenirs). During the games you feel yourself like you are at the stadium in Russia. All fans from different countries are very friendly and cheer all together for their teams and celebrate goals and victories.
Traditional Russian food and amazing ambience transport your from Chennai to the heart of Russia the host of the World Cup.
What I liked in Winter Palace is a wide spectrum of Russian cuisine. You can taste traditional borsch, pelmeni (Russian dumplings), fish under fur (seledka pod shuboi), cold vegetable soup (Krasnodar), pancakes (bliny), etc.
At the same time if you want to get some vegetable and light meal you can enjoy aubergine with nuts salad, healthy grilled vegetable, Moscow salad and many other options.
I look forward to the next big game Russia vs Spain on 1st of July!
Very nice place with positive atmosphere and tasty Russian food!
Awesome place, heart of Russian cuisine in Chennai. Very welcome
Really! Really cool place for hot Chennai!
WINTER PALACE is здорово <3 <3 <3
I want to try something New, its a Perfect place for it.
I never knew , Inside of Russian Cultural Centre have a Romantic Restaurant Called "WINTER PALACE" :) .
Trust me,its awesome place to have (ROMANTIC) DINNER <3 :* :) (y)
Something really good from Russia with open heart
Ambience is good. Very friendly staffs. Walnut biscuits for dessert is a must try.
I absolutely loved this place. Very polite service, extremely good food and very affordable prices. My only issue was that it needs a cleaner washroom. Other than that I really loved this place.
This place has very courteous staff who from the get go help you with deciding what to eat. The interiors are very cosy and well done.
Do not go here expecting anything overly spicy / tangy. They serve very mild food with minimal spices which seem to be very authentic.
The desserts were the highlight of our experience. We tried the napoleon cake and the nut biscuit. But we were a considerably large group, else yo may feel overpowered by the sweetness.
Great ambience And service ! And very good food :)
The manager and waiters are polite and efficient.
The food was quick and fresh . Not expensive
Cosy and Comfy spot to hang. Had ordered Chicken ala Kiev and Tender Chicken BBQ. Tender Chicken was on dart, Best BBQ chicken I had for sometime. Staff were friendly and quite suggestive on what to eat based on the order. People who are prone to spicy Indian cuisine may find the food a little bland. Good Food , would definitely need the recipe for Tender Chicken 😉
!!!
I had khachapuri, Russian nut biscuit, seniki, blini veg, fish and fur salad and borscht soup. Everything was tasty but people who want spicy food should not visit this place. I loved it. The ambience and staff were great. Food was new and I loved everything except the Russian nut biscuit which was extremely sweet.. too sweet to eat. Rest of the meal is a must try.
Honestly you probably might not be able to locate it easily but is a good place to go. The decor is done very nicely and will give you a good feel. We tried Chicken Quesadillas and the Russian nut biscuits. The quality was good. We did not have enough time, so ended up trying these two dishes. Would love to try more, maybe next time. Till then, make a note, this is a highly recommended restaurant because of its cuisine, ambience and the overall setup. Do let me know if it didn't live upto your expectations.
Wonderful place. Great Ambiance. Authentic Russian cuisine.
Ordered Oliver salad and was not disappointed. Wonderful food.
Well appointed dining hall and separate cafe outside.
Service was excellent and the order taker knew what he was suggesting us and suggested us the best food. In one single word, VFM and would visit again :)
Such a cosy little place ! The cafe has indoor and outdoor seating. Ordered the traditional Russian Salad and Chicken Quesadillas. Finished off with a cup of green tea. A very relaxing atmosphere and a great place to unwind.
Go try out some exotic Russian food in a peaceful ambience. All the food mentioned in the menu is purely of Russian and French cuisine dishes.
Take your love for an eve dinner.
What more than this is required.
Ambience is lovely.
Ideal for those who wanna try different food.
We found few dishes really good and few worse.
Overall could experiment it :p
Very good ambience , tasty food . It's a nice quite place with just the right atmosphere to make you feel comfortable. If your a steak lover and a beef liver trust me this is your place . amazing deserts as well
The only place in town that serves Russian cuisine! And, they are pretty good! The ambience is pretty calm and gives a sense home and the paintings and decor give a sense of the 70s/80s look and feel.
The food and the drinks were really good and were worth the money! The pricing is nominal for the portions that are served.
The dishes I tried were -
> Cheese Koblok - really simple dish ; your normal cheese balls but, here stuffed inside baby potatoes and then deep fried.
> Veg. Cutlet - different from the cutler you'd have known, and is a really good choice of starter if you're looking forward to a heavy meal.
> Veg Ghoulash - large portions of mixed vegetable stew cooked in an amazing gravy served with a portion of cold salad and rice
> Potato Zrazy - an amazing dish; the deep fried potatoes are stuffed with mushrooms and some gravy. It is served with cold salad and fried rice cooked with ground pepper!
> For dessert, The Napoleon Cake - a multi layered pastry dish, with creamy goodness oozing from inside! *MUST TRY*
Hope you enjoy this place as much as I did!
Cheers,
Dhyan! 😁
Wonderful ambience
Revamped menu covering a wide spread of veg and non veg options
Serving beef and pork as well, which is a welcome change and deviation from our usual selectively non veg restaurants.
Overall very Tasty food
I can see they have digressed from the pure Russian cuisine and infused a bit of European as well, which is a GOOD THING, given our Indian taste palate and need for veg options as well
Could have played some very soft instrumental music in the background , that would have offset the loud discussion held by one of the coordinators, who was sitting near the billing till.
Apart from that one glitch , I found the place impeccable with scrumptious food.
Must visit !!
On my recent visit to Chennai, found this hidden gem inside the Russian Cultural Centre. The food is mostly Russian here along with some dishes from Ukraine, Georgia, Uzbekistan etc. I ordered a Beef Borscht, Mushroom and Potato Vareniki and a Beef Stroganoff. The food was authentic and reasonably priced.
The Beef Borscht was flavourful with lots of vegetables, generous portion of meat and topped with smetana. The Vareniki was excellent as well. The Beef Stroganoff was accompanied with vegetables and mashed potato - though the meat was little towards the stiffer side was tasted fantastic.
The restaurant has Russian decor and interiors. The place is named the after the Winter Palace also called The Hermitage in Saint Petersburg. If you are in Chennai and looking to try out a cuisine which is not much popular, do visit this place.
Had the beef steak and roast chicken. Tasted great, came with delicious potatoes. Great service too. I was sceptical about trying other places in Chennai for "western food", I made the right decision coming here. Will come back.
This restaurant will be my favourite anytime for its ambience. They serve a good variety of russian cuisine. The starters were really good, though i do not remember the name of the dishes exactly. The Napolean pastry was suggested by many people and it was really delicious. They also have an outdoor seating arrangement which is really cool. The taste and quality of the food is really good and even pricing is reasonable.
Great Ambience and located in my favourite place. The staff are really friendly and extraordinary.
I always choose Veg Goulash with Butter Rice and mashed potato, the best option for the vegetarians.
The only issue I have over there is the tea varieties because there are no varieties available which are mentioned on the menu.
I was disappointed when they discontinued the Mors, liked it!
The Environment is blissful and lovely!
Many times I have conducted classes to Russian nationals here.
Most important part whom I have to mention is Lisa(The dog) who is very friendly and cute. Remind me of the days with my dog.
Even at the noon, the outdoor seating is pleasant and comfortable.
Their Virgin Mojito is really perfect when compared to other places.
And for people who like to have alcohol drinks with a nominal cost and a lovely experience, this is your place. For people who are fond of Non-vegetarian food, they have lots of options to choose from.
Russia, world’s largest country known for its extreme climatic conditions and abundant national traditions, has a distinctive and unique cuisine. Russian cuisine isn’t well known across the globe. Its culinary technique is actually known to reflect its often harsh climatic conditions.
Winter Palace, a fascinating fine dining restaurant, is located inside the premises of Russian Cultural Centre at Chennai. It is said to be the first formal Russian restaurant in the country.
The place has an outdoor seating with live screening to satiate the appetite of FIFA lovers (P.S.: Late review!) and a beautiful blue decor interior seating with paintings on the wall and ceilings that’s something quite unique and gives us a feel that it are actually dining inside some palace rather than a restaurant!
Traditional and festive Russian Salad a.k.a Salad a la Rus had grilled chicken fillets, and boiled vegetables held together by Chef’s special silky mayonnaise. It’s quite a different compared to the routine salads that we come across most often.
What followed it was a colourful array of dishes on the table. Fish in Fur is a traditional Russian food that has spicy cured fish stuffed with layers of vegetables, pre-dominantly beetroot, and other dressing. It was little plain to my taste buds. I don’t have beef and so I gave Beef stroganoff with buttered rice a miss!
Chicken a la Kiev, oven baked chicken filled with butter and served with mixed vegetables, went remarkably well with the baked rice - cheese dip. Chicken was seamlessly prepared with a crunchy outer layer.
King Fish BBQ had marinated pieces of King Fish with steamed rice accompanied by a delicious dip. It was pretty good.
For main course, we had Seafood pasta and Khachapuri. Pasta was pretty good in taste with an obviously strong flavour of pesto. Regardless, I had no complaints and it was definitely a good start.
Khachapuri is basically a Russian equivalent to the Italian Pizza! It had a cheesy dough of crust and was totally different (in a good sense) compared to the usual pizzas that I had seen thus far. It was pleasantly good.
Quickly moving on to the desserts part, we had Russian nut biscuits a.k.a Oreshki, which literally means walnut shaped cookie. It was crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside.
If you are interesting to try and enjoy some authentic, indigenous flavours of a new cuisine, give this place a try. You are sure to be amazed and delighted too!
My Rating: 4/5
Happy Eating :)
Courteous service .One extra mark for that only .The food is ordinary atleast on the vegetarian side .They have customised Russian dishes to Indian pallete. Milk tea was the star though .One of the best teas i have had .Ambience is nice .Should visit once.
I must admit, penning a review for this restaurant is no easy task. Winter Palace situated as part of the Russian Consulate in Alwarpet is Chennai's first ever restaurant serving Russian cuisine. Chennai has touched the borders of different European cuisines but Russian is absolutely a first and quite an audacious choice. With these kind of diverse cuisines, it's just about whether you like it or don't find favour to it and for me it was bordering around a ball park average figure.
I found some of the dishes to be pretty good and some just didn't suit my style as it felt too off for my taste. Russian cuisine is amazingly bland with very less salt and spices and unless you get accustomed to this kind of food, it won't be easy for you to like it. Added factor being vegetarian, it adds to the problem. With these issues being already prevalent, my end experience was kind of decent.
In the vegetarian section, you find majority items being done up with potatoes/mushrooms. They had an aubergine rolls which were really nice stuffed with walnuts and cream. The soup was more like a cold fruit salad and didn't really sparkle my taste buds. The zucchini veg cutlet felt like consuming an omelette and was rather distinct on taste. A momo like dish with steamed potatoes were rather decent nut however I did find it hard to like as there was hardly any spice. The potato cutlets as well as the bread with a mushroom cheesy gravy were quite good.
In the main course side, the pizza called as the 'Khachapuri' felt a little flat for me as it didn't possess the masala element to draw me in. I needed to slather flakes and pepper to get the spice content. The pesto pasta was one of my favourite items. It had very strong hard hitting flavour of pesto and came infused with the right blend of cream.
In the dessert section, I absolutely adored the Napolean cake. Coming with a biscuit texture with buttery cream flowing from all directions and sprayed with chocolate sauce was as drool worthy as it got.
The rates seem par for the course. The service was amiable but the time taken for dishes to reach our tables was a little too longer than expected. Having never tried Russian cuisine before, it would be easy to complain and not fair on my part. I guess you need to have am acquired taste and get used to it before being sure whether you will lap it up. More than anything it was a learning experience and it's always nice to try varied and completely different cuisines. I wouldn't mind coming here again just for the brilliant cake and also to maybe try a wee bit more of their potato based stuff. If you're the one who likes exploring, you should surely check out Winter Palace.
Winter Palace
Have I ever had Russian food? Never, that why I went to this place to try out Russian food. This place is located at Alwarpet in a Russian cultural centre. This has been there or quite some time but I recently noticed it. We can eat both outside and inside. Outside it s more natural with the environment and you will be able to see live streaming of football world cup. We went for lunch and had it inside because it was very hot outside. To talk about the ambiance of the place, it had a lot of paintings on the ceilings. The place looks very calm and peaceful, a small noise can disturb the whole place. It gives a royal fell when you enter the place. The tables and chairs look like they are fit for only rich people. The ambiance is really good, it’s a Russian dine. We tired out a few dishes over here.
Aubergine Rolls- We had this for starters, it is basically tomatoes, cream and walnut wrapped in very thin brinjal slice with soya sauce. It was really good! When you put it in your mouth you get a small crunchy feeling when you bite the walnut. The dish was presented in a very neat manner with coriander in every roll. I felt like it was very fresh.
Borscht Chicken Soup with Bread- This is a typical dish, they generally accompany it with bread. The soup was red with a lot of veggies, it had carrot, tomatoes, onion and beetroot in it. The base was chicken stalk. To finish it off, it had a spoon of thick curd on top. The soup was fine, it was a different taste. I put the soup on the bread and ate it. It was fine.
Chicken Al A Kieu- Moving on the main course, this was the first dish I had. This one had a chicken breast cooked well. It was in golden brown colour. Along with it there was mushroom[creamy type], cut potatoes and salad. It was looking very cool. The moment you cut the chicken breast, yellowish liquid started coming out! But later I realised that it was butter that got melted. The salad and potatoes were fine. The chicken was very juicy due to the butter inside. I liked it.
Potato Zrazy- This is like a group of dishes together, there was sandwich type dish, vegetable rice, salad and Mayo. The main dish had stuffed mushrooms inside, it was good. I loved the rice a lot, it had carrots, onion, bell peppers, cucumbers and peas. It was very good. I liked it a lot.
Banana Splits- This is an ice cream which had 3 flavours- vanilla, strawberry and pista. It had a banana cut vertically and placed on both the sides. There was also cashew candy all over the ice cream. It was topped with chocolate sauce. It was very good. I loved it.
Nuts- They just call it nuts, it’s a typical Russian dessert. Its like a small hard ball. When I bit it, it could taste almonds and cardamom flavour in it. It was fine.
Overall, I loved the place. This is an ideal place for couples, if you looking for a date this is best place to go! This is something new in Chennai, if you want to try something different from the regular cuisines, do check It out. I would rate it 4/5.
What strikes you most as you enter the restaurant is the pleasant ambiance. Beautiful shades of blue and white enhanced by artwork and a full length mirror is very attractive. We ordered chicken blini, honey blini, cheese balls and cappuccino. The chicken blini tasted really good. Other dishes were just OK. Will visit again to try other good dishes suggested by zomato reviews. Tried Chicken Stroganoff recently. Tasted good.
Though I have no prior reference to Russian cuisine I would assume i game if they tase like the food which was served here.
The chicken legs where subtle and the sauce was flavorful. And I guess that was the theme. Very fresh ingredients, subtle yet delicious flavors and made to order.
And the ambiance was really nice. I would definitely come back and bring more people.
One this place has Russian cuisines, I am constant here just for their steaks and Patty's, I usually end up having their beef and pork patty which fills you up also I would vote that this place serves the best steaks with creamy mash for about 400-500 bucks. Note - I would skip the rest of the menu specially their soups they only serve them cold very Russian
Ambience is beautiful very quite don't get disturbed, date night worthy.

Actually this the only place in the city that serves Russian cuisine ,the looks and the ambience is just amazing gives u glimpse of Russia and old colonial look to it when u enter u can see very clean and beautiful interiors with some Russian song playing in the background, the place tends to be always crowded so it’s always better to book a table advance .the menus as good spread but desserts are less .the fermented Russian non alcoholic beer was different and good ,the hot soups were splendid but the cold soups were just okay (I felt it’s the Russian beer with vegetables tossed in) and cheese kolobobs were must try and to the main course damn they have the best salmon in the city and vfm for all u salmon lovers and the dessert though less in number makes up in it taste and overall good place to hang out and have good Russian food
I was introduced to Russian food at the age of eleven. Our neighbours being Russian. Warm and friendly.Imagine my surprise when I walked into the restaurant. The decor! The ambience a lovely Russian setting for Russian food. The paintings on the wall! OMG.The Vodka shots ordered, we dug into the food. What can I say? Each dish tastier than the other.Right from the ease of finding parking and the relaxed meal we had, was marvellous. The blini, the stroganoff and a few more.So much so, that since we were heading back to Bangalore the next day, by road, I ordered a chicken pie (which has to be pre-ordered 24 hours in advance). The pie was huge that we gorged on it for two days. And absolutely a gourmet's delight. From presentation to the lovely filling. A steaming home made soup to accompany it.My only grouse was that the vodka was not chilled enough! Even then, it was "From Russia with Love".
The winter palace is located inside the Russian consulate office near Stella Maris . I believe this must be part of the food diplomacy or whatever , the decor seemed to transport you to a completely different space , but I had this mild 'govt formal' vibe ;)
Had been to watch a ballet performance and we thought wrapping up with food from Russia will be appropriate. It was a weekend , yet only a couple of more expats were at the restaurant , the service was a little too slow, but they were quite helpful with the menu . A few hits and few misses , but over all a good good experience , the quantities served are quite large, so one needs to keep a tab on how much we order .
I really liked the idea of printing the images next to each item on the menu - however it didn't indicate if it would be hot or cold ;) we ended up with a couple of raw cold soups :P They can improve the quality of menu card printed , and possibly host more food festivals to get in more crowd if they really want to !? The place seems to have lost a Bit of its sheen since it's opening , can do better , considering they've got some interesting recipes on the menu . Go out , experiment a new cuisine this week !
As we entered the restaurant, the ambience was good and the air was filled with Russian composition, we ordered for a traditional Russian soup and an salad as a starter , the soup was creamy and and the salad was crunchy and soft. The mutton was very hard and difficult to chew but the spread was good. We ordered prawn pasta and salom Russia .. usually white sauce doesn't go well with seafood but the white pasta was favourite of all and salom d Russia , was salmon was covered with a crispy layer and served with vegetables.
Our first impression of this restaurant was that it has the cutest interior. The powder blue walls and the elaborate sofas are going to be one of the things that will keep bringing you back here. That and the part that they serve really delicious Russian food and vodka. I'd highly recommend that you try out their mashed potatoes, chicken Kiev, and the Nepolean cake. The custard in the Nepolean cake is smooth and has just the right texture, and the mashed potatoes are creamy and buttery. Their service is usually quite prompt but sometimes there are delays as well. Overall, it is a really good place to dine at if you want to try out authentic Russian food.
Have been seeing this always in Fb,under themed restaurant & finally got a chance to visit. But had to pass lots of hurdles to call & ask, regarding the place. The no.given here in zomato is wrong,a nonsense guy takes the phone, sir this no palace, this Andra room in Chennai..PATHETIC!!then you hunt in google & get a mobile no.That too is gone. Please update your records in internet, guys😢😢😢.Finally somehow reached there,& got confused when the board "Russian Cultural Centre" stood there.Asked the guard & he pointed inside & straight,it stood..The Winter Palace Restaurant..it had an ambience of a palace inside.Since it was crowded, settled down outside, with cool breeze blowing.Seating was comfy,no mosquitoes..thank God!!Ordered a Blini Tuna Rolls & Chicken legs as the starters. Both were tasty & different,well-presented. For main dish ordered a Beef Steak (it was lovely, though the beef was a little hard to cut ) & Pelmeni(dumplings with beef inside, with sour cream). It was so blunt or Dead..no specific taste,no sugar,no chilly,nothing..☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️Maybe russian food is like that..blunt!!no idea, since its my first time. Then ordered a pasta,Pasta with Chicken Liver...that too disappointed, another Blunt dish..How do they eat it,without any taste???😢😢😢😢😢😢 Another huuuge disappointment came in the form of Desserts..Russians dont love CHOCOLATE!!!😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 the only thing which looks almost chocolaty is the Soufle Cake...so there also had to compromise & go for their Russian Special Dessert called the Napolean cake.it was ok,tasted like Vanilla...hmmmm,what to tell??For a variety, you must visit here once. There are some attractive looking starters & main dishes. If you are going first time, you can take the advice of the one who serves, because he knows better..🙄🙄🙄🙄 its a request, please get some Chocolate Desserts or a Tiramisu or a Mousse...Some dishes are not worth the money...a bit expensive..All-together its just ok,but the ambience do look like that of a palace...ultimately we are going to have food, not stay in the palace...All the best guys..a looong way to go👍
Stationed within the premises of the Russian Cultural Centre, this has been in one of my go to places in the city for a while. We opted for the indoor restaurant this time. However there is a nice BBQ Resto Bar just outside the restaurant and they serve the same menu as well over here.
Exquisite interiors themed as a palace with pleasing colors and fine paintings are certainly captivating. The food they offer is predominantly Russian with some Indian Customization as well.
Had a four course Russian Meal and all I can say is that it was a wow experience.
Our Orders
- Chicken Borsche
- Salad a la Rus
- Chicken a la Kiev
- Banana Strudel with Nuts
High recommendable 👍👌
A Royal Russian dining inside the Russian Consulate. The place looks amazing. The blue walls surprisingly gives a classy touch. Beautiful ambience and seatings.
We went for our Friend's bday. So we had pre-ordered a piece of the Napolean cake. It was a typical Russian style one. Rough to be a cake though. Was different n nice in its own form.
Took a lapsha chicken soup. A noodle n chicken soup. Was appetising. For starters we had the fried calamari and onion rings. Personally liked it. The dip was yumm.
For mains we had the 1)Chicken Plov: a pulav but Russian style. Tasted delicious. Most favvv was the 2)Prawn Pasta. I'm usually told that white sauce doesn't go with seafood. But prawns with white sauce was really good. They've made it perfectly. Finally 3)Chicken a la Kiev, batter fried shredded chicken with mashed potatoes. Didn't fancy it much.
A definite try for ambience (60%) and food(40%)
In avid to try a new cusine, I went to this place since it was in my bookmark for a loongg time. This place is inside the Russian cultural center(back side of fortune hotel, gopalapuram).
Frankly speaking, i didn't have any idea about Russian cusine. Only after going there, I came to know that most of the dishes are served raw. There is no much option in the starters that is well cooked. We went with fish and fur(which was writen as cured fiah in the menu, but the waiter told its cooked) and calamari and onion rings from the starters. #fish in fur is layered with carrot, mashed potato, egg white, beetroot sauce, fish and egg yellow scrambled on top. The dish was like jelly layers, and would easily slide in your mouth. It would take time for you to identify which layer is what. #kalamari and onion rings was disappointing, coz it tasted very sweet and the calamari was not fresh(chewy chewy). The rings was oily and after a point it was hard to eat more.
For the main course, we had beef cutlet and Chicken a la kiev. Though the #beef cutlet was thin in the picture if the menu, we got two big one's with grilled vegetables. The beef was soft, which is very rare to find, and could easily be cut through by a fork. The bad thing in the dish was the mustard sauce that came with the dish. It had a pungent flavour and i guess it was spoilt. # chicken al kiev was a big roll stuffed with minced chicken and butter, which ooze out when you cut through the chicken. The roll seems to be small, but its really heavy to have. The dish is serced with mashed potato with a layer of cheese on top of it, which goes well with a chicken.
Overall, if you want an entirely different style of food, you can go for Russian Palace
#must try : fish in fur
This is a hidden mystery in Chennai!! #Russian food can be tasted only here!! Their ambience and mid is really good!! The good tasted great. I personally enjoyed their smoked beef!! Their soups and other dishes also tasted great here!! A must visit in Chennai
Hmm... u have a real Russian feel here no show off s no ads... u have a great food (like writing in a pencil than spending millions for a antigravity pen).. prawn pasta filling and prawns cooked in the perfect way...russian salad...and the chicken la Kiev...seriously mindblowing....and the cheese cake was perfect.... definitely a perfect place for continental...at a damm reasonable price...
Bar - calm outdoor bar in the city
Food craving meter - Extreme
Foodgasm meter - Above average
Chicken a la Kiev - was perfectly made. The accompaniments were good too.
Chicken Stroganoff - Tasted delicious with the Mashed potatoes. Creamy and right.
Chicken wings - I suppose the Russian tomato sauce is the only spicy ingredient in their menu. The wings had a honey sauce all over it that gave the fried wings a good flavour.
Alcohol - comes only in 50ml servings at a good price.
We didn't go all out and try authentic Russian food because the tummy was asking for something way above zero level spice.
Compliments from the Chef:
Caviar on egg - The whole combination in a a tiny bite tasted new and fresh. Loved the mix.
Red salmon on egg - Turned out just right. You don't get a fishy taste at all and is perfectly cut for the combination.
We were last seen thinking 'What would we choose to eat if we ended up at Moscow?'
Prachi Trivedi
Really lovely comfort food. Although there are not a lot of options for vegetarians on the menu, my friend who went with me and who is vegetarian said she enjoyed her meal. Indeed, her vegetarian goulash was very tasty. I got the Fish with Fur and Borscht and enjoyed both. I'd definitely go back!
Placed in the heart of the Russian cultural centre, this place has a beautiful ambience with both indoor and outdoor seating arrangement. We ordered chicken wings for starters and chicken steak and chicken stroganoff for main course. The chicken wings were a little saltier than required and the stroganoff was a little sweet. Although, the chicken steak was quite tasty. For dessert we ordered the Napoleon cake and banana strudel. Both the dishes were good and were served in enormous quantity, though I would go with the Napoleon cake if I had to choose between the two.
first of all, menu has to be updated!
this place is inside the Russian cultural center premises. Hence has a good parking space. This place has both outdoor n indoor seating. Quite calm n secluded given the location. Charming service. Moderately priced for quantity served. Quite a menu for non veggies!
This place has no non-alcoholic drinks! the one that they claim is non alcoholic is made out of fermented bread n contains alcohol way below the accepted level n hence is considered to be non alcoholic. so to the non-alcoholics. u dont get your regular soft drinks or juices or milkshakes here! u get served only wit water ;)
We had ordered MUSHROOM BLINI for starters which tasted like mushrooms stuffed inside battered flour served with mayo! It is supposed to be a russian pancake n this did it's deed! it was a lil sweet though! For the maincourse, we had ordered fried noodles with mashed potato n veg goulash! The quantity of both were less! we were still hungry after a starter n a maincourse! But the flavors seemed original. Not much of desserts!
A must visit place! i would definitely recommend.
Winter palace at the Russian cultural centre is a little different than most restaurants I have been to.
The ambiance was very eye catching and was presumably Russian themed. We went on a weekend for lunch yet, for more than half the meal there was one else in the restaurant apart from us (which honestly I didn't mind at all). Ambiance - 4/5.
The cuisine was largely Russian and Continental. The mushroom sauce in the pancake and stroganoff was especially excellent. Food - 4/5.
The dessert was disappointing though. The Napoleon cake seemed to not have enough filling between the hard puff pastry. Dessert - 2/5
The service was courteous, prompt and not intrusive. Service - 5/5
P.S. Please don't play Bieber.
After so many reviews and suggestions, we explored winter palace's Russian cuisine. The place had a royal ambience. Good service. Tuna fish was delicious. A weird combo of pork n beef stuffed and steamed, won the best dish of the day. In spite of higher prices, you would never get disappointed about the food.
Tucked inside the Russian cultural centre is this cute Russian themed restaurant. We were a group of very satisfied vegetarians after the meal though the place was a non veg speciality. They have separate menu for both and also serve drinks. An outdoor seating is also available.
We started with the Royal tomatoes which was essentially tomatoes stuffed with cheese - very juicy and succulent. The cheese didnt overpower or make you feel heavy.
Aubergine Causcaus- It was chargrilled to perfection with a hint of raw garlic in the end which added to the spiciness and elevated the dish.
veg vinaigerette- Baked vegetables and kapers tossed in a vinegar sauce. Wouldn't meet everyone's taste because it is a salad. But we liked it.
Veg Tower with cheese- This was a slight disappointment because one of the aubergines was undercooked. But otherwise tasted good.
Mushroom cocotte- Easily became everyone's favorite. caramelised mushrooms and onions baked with cream cheese and served with sour dough bread. Yum!!
We shared two soups Krasnador which is a cold toamto soup and Svekolnik which was boiled beets and fresh vegetables topped with sour cream. Both tasted good.
For the main course we had, Veg Goulash with buttered rice which was creamy and very tasty. We also had the Grilled vegetables- again char grilled to perfection and it had a green chutney on top which elevated it so much more.
Mashed potatoes- Creamy buttery torched on top. Easily the best we had. Clearly, Russia has the best Mashed potatoes. Absolute YUM!
We had the Khachapuri Merguli which was dough and cheese baked.. Similar to a pizza but tastes slightly different and is a tad lighter.
We finished with a Banana Strudel with nuts which turned out to be our only disappointment as none of us liked it.
We were four of us who ate all that and the bill was just 2156 Rs. They levy no tax and the bill include the three bottles of water we had.
All in all it was very satisfying.I t was everyone's first time with Russian and we did enjoy it. I dont have the pictures now, might update later.

After reading all the reviews i thought of giving a try for this place.First of all there is nothing so Russsian about the food they serve. We ordered the following
1: Chicken cutlet which tasted really good. They served 2 pieces and it was enough for two people
2 : Chicken straganoff with buttered rice. The chicken wad yummy and perfect. The rice had too much butter which made me feel like i m eating more of butter than rice.
3 : Chicken Plov.It was like veg pulav with chicken shredded in it.
To sum up it was just an average restraunt and on a weekend I have visited this place and we were the only customer
I guess i forgot to review this place !!
Went here maybe a year back. Wanted to try some totally new cuisine - Russian :) and it was also a themed one. So that was a plus :)
We went for lunch. I had nearby vouchers.
Location-google map.
Service-was great :)
Food-
we got
a soup(i dont remember the name) but it was really good
Aubergines caucasus - i love egg plant so this was my favorite
veg vinaigrette - my friend and i didnt like it.
veg goulash- loved it but it had less quantity
fried noodles- was okish again
we got a dessert separately. It was okish
Russian cuisine is not my cup of tea :)
Loved the place! Good ambience. We sat outside and the area was pretty neat and clean. The staff was very nice and helped us in picking up the right food. We had chicken wings, Russian special plov, chicken calamari, chicken a LA steak. And desserts were souffle cake, napoleon cake.
I've never tried Russian food before so when we decided to go to the Winter Palace, I spent some time on Google trying to make sense of the menu! Of course by the time we got there,we had forgotten everything we researched! But that turned out to be unnecessary as they had a wonderful illustrated menu, which clearly shows you what you're about to get :)
The interiors are all blue and white and very classy, and the staff was very courteous and pleasant without being intrusive at all, while at the same time ensuring that our glasses were always promptly refilled.
We practically had the entire place to ourselves and spent a very enjoyable couple of hours working our way through the menu. We had the Salad a la Rus (Russian Salad), Russian Vodka (Served with pickled olives, tomatoes,Zucchini and cabbage), Varennikhy (dumplings stuffed with potato or cottage cheese and served with sour cream), Chicken Steak a la Dacha and Beef Cutlets (main courses are served with mashed potatoes or vegetables). Everything was very flavorful and juicy. Though the individual portions were small, the full meal was just the right amount. We loved everything except the Varennikhy, which was a little bland (we would have preferred some tangy sauce to the sour cream).
It was a little pricey but interestingly, the prices shown are inclusive of taxes. So what you see is what you pay!
Overall, a wonderful introduction to Russian cuisine and a lovely place for a quiet meal.
Had never heard of a "Russian Cuisine" but was very fascinated when I went to this place. Their Khvas cold beverage (made from Rye bread) was superb. Beetroot cheese cold salad was also yummy. Overall delicious and different food. Slightly costly but worth the ambiance, service and experience.
Located inside Russian Culture building.... This place caught my attention because of its ambience. I happened to visit the place on my colleague's b ' day. No one was there except us. V enjoyed a lot because f d privacy v had.
Ambience - 5.

Being the first time for Russian cuisine, v found difficult in choosing the items. Yet the bearer was kind n helped us a lot n having their best preparations.
V had
Semga fish steak, chicken stroganoff, pasta with prawns, lamb chops bbq, prawn bbq, Russian nut biscuits, napoleon cake. Everything were fine n tasted quite different compared to my regular Indian cuisine. Nothing to complain of.
Must try - napoleon cake, lamb chops bbq.
Definitely a must try place for those who r bored f regular Indian foods n wanted to try something new......
Winter Palace is a stamp of difference. They've got great Russian cuisine, the ambiance is wonderful and the location is great. There's an element of exquisite, and their service was fantastic too.
I cannot stop raving about this place. I've been wanting to go try a themed restaurant for a while and Chennai has a few of them and this always featured on top. So me and a couple of friends finally arrived at the Russian consulate to try out a different cuisine and we were definitely taken aback with what we tried.
We had the krasnodar tomato soup which was actually served cold but tasty, the veg tower with cheese starter which was absolutely tasty in the beginning.
For main course we had chicken stroganoff, chicken cutlets, chicken steak a la dacha and a veg goulash. Every dish had a different subtle flavour and tasted amazing. I personally ordered the Chicken cutlets and absolutely loved it. All the chicken dishes were served with mashed potato where as the veg goulash was served with buttered rice.
The staff were very courteous and helpful and the restaurant was peaceful so lunching here felt really good on a Saturday afternoon.
Kudos to the team!
The place is legendary. It is inside the Russian centre in Alwarpet . You may have second thoughts before entering. Don't get confused and just enter the place . It's an amazing place . For amazing Russian food. The deserts are amazing . I celebrated my birthday and they gave me the best gift ever that is complementary deserts. It's one of the places of you visit you will definitely keep coming back to ...🤗😁😌😌
The Winter Palace is located inside the Russian Cultural Center grounds.
The ambiance was quite nice. A very nice, winter-blue decor, with imitations of ornate wood furniture making it look a little like a Russian or English Tea Room. The soft Russian music in the background was also nice touch.
The place was empty when I went. To be fair, I was early for lunch and it was a Thursday.
The borscht and the chicken wing starters were excellent. As was the chicken stroganoff, all recommended by the staff. The stroganoff was a little mild, absolutely speaking. I then had a Napolean cake, which was nice and a little less soft than I had expected.
The food was good, but I have no idea how close to authentically Russian it was. I hope to go back with someone in the know, next time.
I wanted to experiment Russian cuisine for quite sometime and was waiting for an opportunity to visit Winter Palace!
When a friend asked me to meet up for dinner, I was quick to suggest this place and he agreed after some hesitation.
Ambience: The place is all Blue and was quite pleasing to eyes. Loved the decor and seating. The place wasn't crowded too on a saturday night.
Food: We had a little deliberation over the menu and finally ordered.
Starters:
Salo - cold cut pork drizzled with sauce. The waiter informed us that the pork is uncooked and may not be to our liking, I was ok with it and my palate did accept it.
Chicken Wings - My friend's order and it was spicy to my liking however he enjoyed it.
Main Course:
Chicken Plov - Russian style briyani which was nothing to rave about but not bad either.
Beef cutlet with mash potatoes - The cutlets were succulent and I loved the pickled vegetables. The mash potatoes were cold and was not creamy as I would have liked it.
Desserts:
Napoleon Cake - Loved the presentation of the cake and everything ends there...
Just had a spoon and found a little strand of hair when I was about to scoop the second one. Did not want to make an issue but notified the manager who was quick to apologise and offer replacement. My bad luck the kitchen was closed and had to share the brownie of my friend.
Brownie - The brownie was moist and tad sweet to my preferred sugar limit.
The quantity was pretty decent to our standards. The bill was about 1500 including a water bottle and the Napoleon cake was not billed.
So I'm a part of the couch surfing community which is basically group of travellers,
We occasionally meet up at restaurants..
Winter palace(located inside therussian cultural centre) is one of our usual hangouts..
The place is amazing, and peaceful.. The winter palace is a small outdoor cabin kinda place which serves authentic Russian food and drinks!
There are all kinds of Russian food available, and unfortunately I am having a bit of a trouble in remembering few of those names.
I had a Coco mocktail once, it was creamy, and delicious!😸 and Russian BBQ really gets you going...
They serve Russian vodka😻
The price tag is a tad bit costly though..
Anyways the service and ambiance will make you forget all that.
For a Russian experience visit the winter palace..!
Had a good time in winter palace... Russian nuts cookies and Napoleon cake was awesome... Very quiet place with little music to ears.. wonderful
Loved the food. We tried many things on the menu and loved them all. Who knew we would love Russian cuisine this much.
The food is great but the service is a little slow. The ambience is also pleasant. Do try the Chicken Stroganoff!
A cozy and a very private place to have confidential conversations, business meets. Food was very much Russian and they serve descent variety cocktails and mock tails.
Good place to have Russian food. Both veg and non veg are good. If you want something spicy then this place is not recommended.
Freshly prepared food with great ambience😍
Great place, nice and quite ambiance and great food, slightly expensive
Very nice place to eat great steak and service is top amicable and friendly waiter, the interior and ambiance is well done and has a cosy feel
Wonderful place. Great Ambiance. Authentic Russian cuisine.
Well appointed dining hall and separate cafe outside.
Service was excellent and the order taker knew what he was suggesting us and suggested us the best food. In one single word, VFM and would visit again :)
Nice place for people who want to try different cusine. I see people complaining about raw fish, what do you expect in a Russian dish? Very friendly staff, if you ask, they help with selecting the item. It was a good experience.
Pleasant ambience with soothing wall color. Great menu card with pictorial representation of all items. Good food & reasonable pricing.
