Great biriyanis...it's very different from.chettinad style yet a leaves a strong taste.. if you are one who likes to explore different forms of biriyani then this is a must try ... For the taste and value for money I can give up to 4.5.. ambience and service could be slightly be better... Overall a must try

SERVICE: They really take time noticing you there for taking orders. Staffs were either rude or polite. They were decent.
FOOD: Ordered MUTTON BIRYANI and CHICKEN65 .. biryani priced at Rs.160 was pretty decent.. you get pretty much high quantity... it was how a biryani should be.. it was served in banana leaf adding flavour.. 65 was too good.. chicken was very juicy and Is priced at Rs. 80. Overall very satisfied with the flood.
Have been ordering from here since long. Visited their new outlet as they have shifted out of the old one. Biriyani as always is too good. The ambience of their new place is excellent. Eagerly waiting for them to start Tandoori and Barbecue dishes. I was told it will take one more week for them to start!

Went here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Ordered chicken Biriyani and Chicken Lollypop. Both were excellent. Love the biriyani so much. Coming to the ambience, it was a bit over crowded,but the food compensated it. A must visit for Biriyani Lovers!
Undoubtedly one of the best mutton biriyanis that you get in Chennai. Service is commendable. Chicken and egg biriyani are okayish. This place is more famous for takeaways than dining in due to its lack of space. Fair warning : u need to go within the first one hour of opening to get mutton biriyani or risk returning empty handed.

Picked up a 1kg bucket mutton biriyani made with jeera samba rice, 1 kg chicken lollipops and 1kg bread halwa for Easter lunch Celebrations. I have to say, after reading a lot of mixed reviews about this place, I absolutely loved their biriyani!!! We all did! It had the perfect blend of spices and tender mutton. The brinjal gravy was very average. But the chicken lollipops were good and so was their bread halwa. Will definitely be trying the basmati rice biriyani soon! Thanks Ambur Star Biriyani, you guys made our day.

You will find lots unwanted things in aasif biryani but the orginal look and taste you will only find in AMBUR STAR BIRYANI - ANNA NAGAR . The aroma of biryani and the softness of meat woow i enjoyed a a lot and i recommend you to visit this place if you are in search of tasty biryani . I also tasted fish 65 etc its best side dish you can ask for . Thanks a lot jameel basha for his suggestion on selecting the best side dish . Located on the 5th main road, this hidden gem exists. My experience here is always more than good. It is only for the past 1 year I've been a regular at Star Biriyani but the biriyani has definitely found a place in my heart.
Seriously nothing to talk about the ambience. The service is quick and smooth and it takes a maximum of 8-10 minutes for your hot biriyani to be served. I always prefer Mutton Biriyani and a plate of Chicken Tikka accompanying it. The mutton is soft beyond words and the chicken is cooked to perfection. The prices are pocket friendly and will be heading back soon. :):)

It's a small joint no great ambience and all. But the service was very quick. Reasonably priced and yummy. Chicken 65 and sukka were extraordinary and quantity was also very good. I will recommend this place for take away.
Taste - Excellent; The rice used is not Basmati, unlike others, and Tamil people who like the Ponni Pacharasi type smaller rice will love this Biriyani and taste. The Flavor was good too.

Maybe its good for take-outs, but even then, the ordering experience and waiting is not good at all. If you compare the South Chennai Aasife guys, they have a very good take-out ordering and delivery system.

Went to Ambur Star Biriyani yesterday night,. Ordered a Mutton and Chicken Biriyani with Chicken 65. All the items tastes good. The Mutton Biriyani taste was excellent. But they close the restaurant by 9 pm..
Headed to this place during a rainy night and the hunger really called me up for the biryani. The biryani is of samba rice which was very aromatic and spices added up more to the chicken making it tender. The sides were okay.

Cooked in the traditional ambur style this biryani is a definite try. It's perfectly spiced and neatly presented. There is a choice in the rice type i.e basmati or jeerga samba rice. The meat is tender and properly cooked and gives a nice juicy taste.
Overall a must try.

Just came out from Ambur STAR Briyani I tried my favourite mutton biryani and fish 🐠 chukka for my lunch and the biryani was fabulous and perfectly blended with masala and the meat was so soft and tender and the fish chukka was really tasty and perfectly matched with biryani 👍.. 😃 😃 and the ambience of the restaurant was ok 👌 and overall experience enjoyed a good biryani for lunch.

My favourite Biryani spot where the taste of biryani will never disappoint you. The best biryanis are served at the marriages no doubt and according to me the second best is star biryani. I was suggested fish sukka with mutton biryani and I went drooling with the combination. I am waiting to go visit there again. Since its biryani, it's always better to dine in to get the fresh taste of the biryani rather than taking it away.

Has been here more often. Food quality is awesome. If anyone needs a finger licking briyani can opt for this place. The disappointing factors are the size of the outlet which is small which couldn't handle the demand, The quantity of the briyani little less compared to other places, Takes more time to serve even if you order 1 briyani. Anna Nagar has almost all the legendary biryani restaurants. Ambur Star Biryani is one of such legendary restaurant for biryani. They are serving biryani's since 1890. I have tried ambur star biryani few timea at chennai as well as Main Outlet@Ambur, so I know how it would taste.
It's been quite a few months that I have tasted ambur biryani, so decided to but biryani for dinner. Biryani's here are made with seeraga samba rice unlike the conventional basmati rice.
Located the place easily with the help of maps, located on residential area & the roads are pretty wide, so parking is not an issue here. Small restaurant with simple tables n chairs, not a great ambiance but maintained clean though.
By the time(9PM) I reach, chicken biryani was over & only mutton biryani was available with few sides. Since it was solo dinner, went only with biryani to make it light dinner. Mutton Biryani was served in few with raitha & brinjal curry. Last few times, I find the biryanis were too oily here, but this time it was not the case. It was not that oily like a turn off. Biryani quantity was sufficient for one, in that half the plate was filled with mutton pieces, which was really nice. Mutton pieces were perfectly cooked & juicy. Costs only ₹150 for mutton biryani & ₹130 for chicken biryani.
Service was quite good at this outlet, waiter was very prompt on filling the sides as well as water. Another good thing was No extra charges like VAT,ST or SC.
By the time I left the place around 9.20, mutton biryani was over & they started closing their outlet. Recommended for biryani lovers with some sides, only drawback is you get only biryani's as main course here.

The best Biriyani place in Anna Nagar!! Probably in Chennai too!! It might seem exaggerating on reading the last line but such is its taste and flavour!! ;) The best biriyani I have ever had in my life!! (Okay the second best after the real one in Ambur! :P ) . Chicken in the Chicken biriyani is very juicy and tender unlike the usual lousy pieces you get in other places :) The side dishes are great too!! Be it Chicken 65 or Prawns fry or Vanjaram fry everything tastes amazing!! 4.5 for its quantity :( Yes, the quantity is pretty much less! Else I would have given 5!!

I am comparing this with Bangalore's silk board branch. Biryani rice is not cooked properly, it seems like fried rice. Side dishes are also not as expected.

Being a fan of seeraga samba briyani, Ambur Star Briyani has been on my wishlist for a long time... And already i had been to this place three times in the past 4 months.
The briyani here made of the smaller seeraga samba rice unlike the longer basmati rice elsewhere comes with an unique flavour. Mutton briyani here is one among the best briyianis in the city. The chicken one is not as tasty as the mutton briyani but still it is better than those available in the neighborhood. As for as the briyani is concerned there is no complaints whatsoever. The potion is just adequate and the accompaniments satisfactory.
The problem is with their starters. Almost all of their starters taste similar and the quantity is downright stingy and not worth the money paid. Special mention to their fish fingers. It is one uof the worst fish fingers i have ever tasted in my life. Could anyone make fish fingers this bad is a question to ponder. Anyways who cares if they continue to serve those mouth watering tasty flavorful briyanis. Skip the starters, just order their briyanis and savour them. It is the ultimate briyani experience in town.
Ambur's epic biryani saga is one that starts from the times of the Nawabs of Arcot, wherein the Amburites would cook them legendary biryanis and thus the tradition has been passed down.
With this tale in my mind, I was treated to a tantalising experience of Ambur's finest. The rice is coated with gentle amounts of ghee and there's no masala that gets in your way, as is the case with others, the mutton is splendidly cooked along with its fat and marinated in a spicy mix. Add this together and you'll be on the receiving end of some exquisite Nawab style food, the mutton and the marination and the fat are all evenly spread out so that you get to taste them gracefully, while the rice is also perfectly balanced in adopting the meats flavor, making this a wholesome meat celebration.

Well ive had the star biriyani from ambur..this is not exactly d same I must say..its good..no doubt..but being a biriyani fan I must say I prefer the longer rice grains than the ones these guys use..I meant jeera samba yes..or even basmati like the hyd biriyani..decent food..would recommend it a try for sure..
A very different biryani than the ones we get here in Chennai...The aroma starts engulfing you even when you start climbing those stairs at Velachery branch of Ambur Star ! The colour is kind of dull but the taste makes you just fall for it. Very mild but highly aromatic. The brinjal stuff you get is a great match for the milder biryani.
I chose mutton when it comes to biryani and there are 3 medium sized pieces at Star..mostly well cooked and juicy. Pretty good. To be honest...Chicken biryani is ok - the chicken comes with the usual rubbery texture. Starter - Kashmiri Chicken is my all time favorite there...with boneless chicken deep fried and tossed with lot of saunf and curry leaves...leaves you wanting for more !
The only "put - off" is the maintenance...especially when the place is crowded. Hope they get it right down the line ! I love AMBUR STAR.
I'm a big fan of Ambur Star and have visited the original Ambur outlet 10-20 times.
The Anna Nagar outlet tries it's best to meet the same expectations and more or less gets there.
But what to do? The quantity is a tad lesser and the price a tad more than the original. But that's only fair for the Anna Nagar crowd.
Now, is the taste a tad lower?! That's entirely debateable.

Waa ! I'm very much excited to find Ambur Star Briyani here in Zomato. I always search for this kind of briyani at Chennai and ended up with finding none every time. Once being introduce to Star briyani through one of good foodie friend , i should say this is the best in Anna Nagar and my all time favorite biryani center in Chennai. Whenever i feel like having proper muslim marriage type briyani , i will rush up to this restaurant.
Ambur Briyani at other parts of Chennai can never be compared to this outlet and this place has their own separate cooking unit and Chef. They are located in Anna Nagar with a seating capacity of 50 with a descent ambience. To start with , you will not given a broad option for soups or starters unlike other restaurants since this is a typical briyani center known for serving briyani with some of their speciality side dishes.
You can always go with their Mutton Briyani , cooked Ambur Style , Served with a Brinjal Chutney and Onion Raitha for 135 bucks. The quantity will be pretty good and filing for a normal eater and will surely require 2 plates for me anytime :) Going towards side dish items , they serve very good crispy Chicken leg 65 , Mutton Sukka and Prawn 65.
The awesome part of this restaurant is , You can get Thumbs Up soft drink anytime and you must be sure how heavenly Biryani tastes with a sip of thumbs up. So whenever you feel hogging a proper medium spicy ambur style briyani , you can drive to this place with no confusion

I've been wanting to try the wonderful, almost legendary Ambur Star Biryani for ages now and it was only recently that I had the proper excuse/opportunity to visit the place. To be honest though, Ambur Star Biryani doesn't spring to one's mind as immediately as the Thalappakatti's or Thalappakattu's because they're outlet here is located at an obscure part of Anna Nagar and their marketing department isn't exactly putting a conscious effort to promote the place.
Despite all this, you always end up waiting for 10-15 mins for a seat here because this place is constantly overflowing! Not to mention separate queue waiting for parcel/takeaway... Don't expect a fancy ambience or snazzy interiors here, this place means business. Moreover you really wouldn't care less about anything else after they serve your steaming hot Biryani (cooked with nothing less than the Seeraga Samba Rice) on a banana leaf.
Authenticity is the name of the game at Ambur Star Biryani and irrespective of the Biryani you order, the food is absolutely sumptuous; we ordered Chicken as well as Mutton Biryani and Chicken Lollypops which were both amazing to say the least. Although the quantity is quite less, the prices are rather moderate for the unique flavour this place has to offer.
Service might be kinda slow sometimes when the crowds are heavy, but trust me, the wait is well worth the time. The owners also make it a point to come and enquire about your experience and are quite helpful.
So next time you're in Anna Nagar and in the mood for something authentic and unique, try remembering this place. It's a welcome departure from the boring fast-food-fancy-restaurant routine. Trust me, if you are with friends, nothing else spells better camaraderie than having an epic Biryani time!
