The taste felt authentic and service was great. We tried Tonkatsu, Gyoza,Pork & Beef Ramen, Beef Stir fried Noodles,Karage.
We recommend going for authentic foods as Tonkatsu,Karage,Gyoza and Ramen were very good. They had a variety of sauces for each dish, special mention to wasabi soy sauce - very fresh and fiery 🔥.
Japanese comfort food in Chennai. Ramen being my favourite i loved this one to bits! Gyo don and ebi tempura maki were perfect. it was a simple yet yummy homestyle dinner for 2.
Dahlia !! Oh dahlia ! If I could just write a song for you :D . Seriously guys, this place is one of the most underrated Japanese restaurants in Chennai city.
The food is splendid and there is so much on the menu to choose from. The restaurant is managed by a 91 year old cutie who has selected the menu with a keen sense of taste.
I am always satisfied after completing my meal here.
Here are a list of dishes I love:
1. Soya ramen
2.miso ramen
3. Prawn set menu
4. Ton katsu set menu
5. Beef hamburger
6. Sushi-sashimi platter
7. Pork udon noodles
I can't get Dahlia off my mind. Can't wait to return for more !
Edit : I am back here guys, I tried soya miso ramen this time. It lacked a little bit of flavour in it. But the second dish, the sushi platter was out of this world !!
We had Chicken Ramen which was good when had with squid. Tofu teri yaki was good and tasted like chilli paneer but with Tofu. The prawn dumplings were too good. The best part about the restaurant is the authentic japanese style dining table that they have and the while japanese ambience will be loved by all the japanese culture lovers
Unassuming place with great Japanese food. If you come here around 7pm you'll find it hard to find a table - they're all occupied by Chennai's expat Japanese crowd.
One of the few places I've found chawanmunshi. Great tempura and set meals too. So so glad they reopened!!
Reserved a table through Zomato. It's full on weekends and not the kind of vicinity you want to hang around, waiting for a table, so best to reserve one.
My second time here and the building looked even more run-down and even more shady than last time. Maybe cos we entered through the first gate, before 'Just Born'. The gate after, is a better place to enter and park.
My friends were first timers and looked really worried on seeing the building, they weren't really excited about Japanese food either. After convincing them Teppan can't compete in food with this place, we entered, and now we have a couple of avid Japanese food fans!!
The food is mind blowing we had the mixed maki, veg sushi, tofu teriyaki set, tempura set and the Japanese fried rice. Didn't touch the tempura cos of my gluten allergy but the rest of it was DIVINE!
We being 'professional alcoholics', whenever we get the freedom, were disappointed there was no Japanese beer, so we ordered Saki in hot and cold states and LOVED IT!
The service by the Indian lady was exemplary, she needs an award for handling so many tables and all with a smile.
Loved it! Will be back, can't wait to see the state of the building, next year!
Set in a completely unassuming building in the heart of Nungambakkam, Dahlia is a hidden gem. They've been around for as long as I can remember - I've been coming for over 15 years.
The owners are super friendly, and from Japan, so you're getting the real deal here. It's got a cosy original Japanese ambience with semi-tatami seating.
Dahlia maki and kitsune udon are our family's favorites. Try their agedashi tofu as well!
A raw slice of Japan in Chennai!
Sushi, sashimi, katsu curry and quality teriyaki! The slices of fish are fresh and juicy and truly delicious.
Even the tv shows here are authentic.
A humble little restaurant which provides most authentic Japanese food.....the portions r quite satisfying and completely worth the money....I ordered Tamago maki and Ramen...the Ramen was clear as it should be with right amount of noodles, corn, chicken and shiitake mushroom.Maki was in right size not too big and not too small unlike other “Japanese restaurant”...
Most authentic Japanese food in Chennai! Menu card has pictures which makes it easier for us to understand what type of food it is. Lots of vegetarian options available! They have lots of anime and manga series and nice to watch Japanese Tv while eating! Subtle ambience... Simple and neat place!
Good food, good people.ordered sushi and ramen.sushi with wasabi, pickled ginger and soya sauce was a blast of flavours .portions were pretty good.donot go alone coz food is best when shared. The quantity of pork in RamenNoodles is very less .and also the ambience of the restaurant is not totally in Japanese style . Of all spots, Sushi is love 🙌
Anyone rating this lower than a 5.0 clearly doesn't know Japanese Food or quality of Sushi.
The quality of fish is amazing and its relatable to upscale mid tier sushi restaurants in LA especially since the owner is Japanese.
(many American, Chinese, and korean owned places are usually not up to standard and for mainly for budget and amateur sushi eaters, or just a cheap quick sushi without hurting your wallet)
I was quite frankly amazed at the quality of fish and the best I've seen in Chennai. I've been to many other places and the look, taste, and quality was no where near and looked questionable at best.
I see some posts talking about the soy sauce.. THE SOY SAUCE?!?!? Sushi connoisseurs do not use soy sauce and if so very limited with heavy wasabi.
I personally do not use much soy sauce because your supposed to taste the Fish not the soy sauce. Thats like being a pasta connoisseur but you're favorite pasta is Spaghetti or Pizza expert and your favorite pizza is Pizza Hut or Dominos.
Believe me this is the real deal, I wish they had more selections of Fish (Uni, Ikura, Tai, Otoro) but again I don't expect too much In Chennai in regards to Raw Fish, Raw Beef [I would love to see steak/beef tartare here but it must be sanitary!], Beef and Pork dishes.
This place is just amazing! It's a homely, little place tucked away in a corner of Nungambakkam.
Really mind blowing, good, hearty Japanese food.
Beware though, the portion sizes are super generous, so try and go with a bunch of friends. That way, you'll be able to share multiple dishes without stuffing yourself too much.
Authentic Japanese food with a warm service. Sushi and ramen are very delicious in this restaurant. One can also request the restaurant to provide suggestion on the dishes and the quantity is also good. Complimentary tempura dish and tea served
Best Sushi , and tuna its to juicy and lovely one of the best japens cuisine in the city , waiting for our next visit........................

* Hidden gem
* Authentic Japanese cuisine
* Legendary setup/Oldest Japanese restaurant in Chennai
* Ample parking space
Hidden gem, yes, but definitely well short of being perfect.
Housed in a commercial complex, the parking is easier than most and convenient. Place was lit and setup was more like a functional Japanese home with Japanese TV shows running in the background.
Most of the tables were filled when we walked in at 13:50. Calm, quaint ambience. 8 tables in total with two types of seating styles. It was the two of us for lunch on a weekday.
Greeted with cold towels to refresh along with cold ginger tea.
Order:-
Sushi Moriawase (₹800) - An assortment of maki and sushi served with fermented Ginger and wasabi! Epic! But it's all for nothing if your 'sweet soy sauce' or 'Japanese soy sauce' isn't perfect. Yes, makes a world of difference! This one was too sour, off and not made perfect. Extremely disappointed by that.
Miso Udon (₹600) - Exquisitely concocted miso soup and noodles with bean sprouts, scallions and shrimp. Only downside was that there was only one shrimp! Large portion size.
Buta Shogayaki (₹850) - Sliced pork meat with a pleasant ginger flavour. Served with pickled radish which was a bit too much on pungency; sweetened tofu and green peas; sticky rice. The radish was a let down.
Katsu Don (₹750) - Star meal of the day! Sticky rice topped with pork cutlet, shredded with omelette and seaweed. Extra crispy and thick outer layer over well cooked pork. Loved the nectarous palate! Served with what must be the very best of silken tofu broth! Must try!
Sashimi (₹700) - Lovely assortment of sashimi ranging from squid to salmon and yellowtail (from what it looked and tasted like).
Service was quick and the waitress was courteous. Only thing was that we were 'handed' our bill and card at the end which I didn't find appropriate. The air-conditioning wasn't very effective. Seating was acceptable. Definitely good food but the sweet soy sauce and pickled radish were things one can't compromise on when everything else was scrumptious.
Total Bill:- ₹4366/- including 18% GST of ₹666.
I had been oblivious to the taste of Japanese cuisine for the longest time. Although it was really intriguing, I never got around to trying it. Being a sushi virgin, I stepped into dahlia.
Location: It is in one of Nungambakkam's busy areas. It is located in a complex on village road (often referred to as sterling road, due to the 29c bus stop).
Ambience: They have a pretty simple place with evident pieces of Japanese culture, such as origami, on the walls and the table. I, for one, loved the seating. The chairs are not really the usual kind. Although it was difficult to get in and out, it was super fun.
Food:
We had fried chicken, chicken noodles and sushi(duh!)
Fried chicken: There was absolutely nothing that was wrong about this chicken. It was soft, flavourful and delicious.
Noodles: I didn't fancy this much. But, they had pickled ginger in it that I found interesting!
Sushi: I was rather sceptical about whether I would like sushi or not. But, I did! I absolutely loved the flavour of Nori (seaweed). I did take time to get used to the strong, overpowering taste of wasabi but at the end, I definitely enjoyed it. I didn't really have a reference point to compare this with but my friend(who is a sushi expert) seemed to enjoy it, so I can vouch for this place. It came along a bowl of basil soup which was yuuuum! Oh, they also served oolong tea.
Service: Quick and courteous.
Price: Guess I would say it is value for money since sushi is quite expensive. Around 1900-ish I believe was the final bill.
I would love to go there again to try their other dishes. They definitely spoil you for choice.

Dahlia, undoubtedly has the best tasting Sushi in Chennai. Also, the ginger pork we ate melted in our mouth. This place has been very consistent with their taste, quantity and quality. It isn't very hard on your pocket either. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that has not just a palate and but a big appetite for Japanese food.
The best sushi place in town. Authentic Japanese cuisine . Authentic Japanese conversation and a great chef/manager to boot. If you think Japanese think dahlia. Everywhere else comes next.
Dahlia is an amazing Japanese restaurant located in Nungambakkam. The restaurant is located in a complex in Nungambakkam which is the drawback about the whole place. The ambience of the restaurant itself is great but the location is in a remote place which makes it difficult to find.
The food is amazing and is served with the best possible meat. The taste is amazing too and if you love Japanese food it's a must visit. On the price scale it's on the higher side of things just like the other Japanese places in Chennai.
Food taste 5/5
Location 4/5
Ambience 5/5
Service 5/5
A bit difficult to find, but a very nice restaurant. Food was very tasty and nice as well. Service was quick - so, all in all a very good experience.
Dahlia is our family's go-to place for authentic sushi. It's a gem hidden at the back of Kaveri Complex (complex next to Just Born). The second you enter the restaurant you are transported to a cozy little family eatery in Japan. The elevated tatami tables are where you should sit to get the full experience. The complimentary starters are my favorite - fried squid or fish fritters. But don't fill up on those!
Our favorites are pretty much everything on the menu, but we generally stick to - fish/chicken butter yaki, Dahlia maki, agadashi dofu, udon, salmon and spicy tuna maki. Yum! The agadashi dofu is fragrant and the tofu melts in your mouth.
Dahlia was our favorite place for Japanese food back home. The beef Katsu and the fried rice and their Sushi.. All mind blowing. Can't wait to go back..
I've been looking for a good spot for Japanese food in the city for ages, and I've finally found the one!
The food and ambience at Dahlia are phenomenal. I would really recommend their soba noodles and their gyoza.
10/10 would go there again.
One of the best Japanese joint in Chennai.. Gives a proper authentic japanese feel to the place..
Serves beer.. The food is above expectation in taste and presentation..
Would definitely visit them often for their sushis and the deep fried pork.!
If anyone wants to try the best Japanese food, just come here!! I'm addicted to this place now, especially the sushi is very fresh and the pork is cooked soo well OMG 💗💗💗 if you are a chicken lover try teriyaki it's so authentic
If you are a Japanese food lover...believe me when I say that this is the best place to eat in... its a perfect setup..The TV always has Japanese shows on and the aroma is world's apart. Small place owned by an indo - Japanese couple and the lady who helps them is simply cute... dont go on an emply wallet as the food is to die for..
Never tasted Japanese food ... my sister dragged me here..... not a fan of sushi personal choice but loved the fried dumplings ,Ebi(prawn) and katsu. The ambience good and the service was amazing... always smiling.... overall amazing place feel like your in a different world once your in..
2 of us ate it came to 2300 or so...
I absolutely LOVE Japanese food! And I have been meaning to come here for a long long time. Run by a Indo- Japanese couple, the food here is authentic Japanese. It's a tiny little Japanese diner or a place, dingy and inside some old building complex, but the food is absolutely spectacular. I love the InaKyu Maki, which is the vegetarian sushi. I had the sea weed wrapped tofu and cucumber inakyumaki and the egg and plain cucumber ones too with wasabi and soy sauce. We also had a fish teriyaki set and a chicken teriyaki set. These came with stock, wasabi and soy sauce, cut pickles, glutenous rice, and shredded cabbage with a sort of yellow mayonnaise to go with the teriyaki. The tofu teriyaki was wonderful too, seasoned and soft on a bed of noodles. We had coconut jelly with litchi cubes for dessert. It tasted perfect and was of the right consistency too! Everything was so perfect, dahlia's is my new favourite place in town.
A good Japanese restaurant..We've been there many times and food is always good..

Dahlia is a traditional Japanese restaurant. It's food is exceptional as it is both light and easy to enjoy. And each bite of single dish is a blast of flavour.
I wouldn't recommend anything else for an authentic Japanese restaurant.
Dahlia
Nungambakkam; Kaveri complex
Eats : Sushi & Tofu sampler
Quite a trick to find the place; The GPS goes crazy at times,
It was nothing but a "Hole in the Wall"
With less than 30 covers seating capacity with some proper authentic Japanese seating arrangements for a few of them. And the decor except a few peacocks and a background where Japanese TV plays, probably a Japanese cashier or owner who is seated, you might even wonder about the way it looks for me this dose seem like those small restaurants set up by old Japanese families at the West coast or interior Alaska.
My order was very very small and I don't think I do have the liberty to be harsh on them if they go wrong; My better half was not gonna help me out today as she is vegetarian on this particular day and this is gonna be a very tough pick for her; and as for me I should tone it down and forget the Katsu's ... My mind was reaching out for Ton Katsu but I ended up ordering Sushi Moriawase and some Tofu dish which she wanted (my bad I forgot the name)
They served some chilled green tea and a cold towel which brought me back to those initial memories of Japanese authentic restaurants in the East coast and West Coast of United States. Then the food arrived with a bowl of Miso soup itself ... Now that nails it .... The first sip and the aroma of that miso gets the whole mood going for the authenticity of Japan in chennai.
It's often said that the true heart of Japanese cuisine can be found in a simple meal of just three things: a bowl of rice, a plate of pickles, and a bowl of miso soup.
Miso soup is a side dish served as a small portion of savoury soup and complementary ingredients and sipped directly from the bowl throughout a Japanese meal. All you need to make authentic miso soup is some miso, a soup base, and this is authentic to the core and the selection of ingredients were commendable.
The sushi to me is all about freshness of seafood and for some reason I don't find this seafood entirely fresh even thou all of the fish presented were Sushi Grade, the white fishes were good but compared to the ones I have had in Alaska this is pretty ordinary but that is entirely on the geographical location of chennai which is to be blamed, the second stanza is the cooking of Rice in sushi .... Dahlia is the best place to find authentic sushi rice, pretty close I would say Raku Raku; even the selection of wasabi given was good has more punch than any one else so far to my palate.
Tofu : forgot the whole name it was served with Miso Soup and pickles with boiled tapioca and carrot and some wakame seaweed(not nori) .... The tofu was silky and melted the sauce or the stir-fry was exquisite the cuts of vegetables in them sure brought out the skill ness of the chef; overall a well prepared tofu stir-fry, with the works dose the magic.
For me just the sight of Wakeme(seaweed) brought joy as I love the texture.
VFM : 1560₹ for the 2 with a bottle of water.
Verdict: I understand the pain and the financial crunches to run a standalone Japanese restaurant whose mantra is all about authenticity; I really don't care about how horrible your ambience is as long as you guys dish out Japanese Hospitality and food to chennai.
This restaurant is best described as a hole in the wall. Found in the most unlikely places, but serves the freshest and tastiest Japanese in the city. The age dashe is amazing, the variety of sushi and sashimi is as fresh as it can get. You must try their cold sake and enjoy the fresh and organic taste
Dahlia is a love it or hate it kind of place the food is amazing ambience is not so amazing once you get to know the management the service is fantastic knowing Japanese would be your ticket
Along with Momoyama this is my favourite Japanese place in town. Everything is excellent, the katsu, the sushi, the pork cutlet, and so on. It's been a while since I went there, so I will update this review once I visit again, but I've always found this place to be great, and value for money, to boot. The sake and beer make it even better.
Soon as you enter the place gives you a cozy feeling...and the menu is impressive..i don wana try anything out of the box and tried prawn tempuras and teriyakis which were excellent and next time vll giv my tongue buds some varieties ;-)
I've never actually been a big fan of Japanese food or sushi, for that matter, but I was finally dragged to Dahlia, to give all of it a shot and let me just say that it is totally amazing. I'm still not sure I'm sold on sushi, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and their non-sushi food is really good too!
On the slightly more expensive side, but given that it's pretty authentic, it's not really such a bad thing. I'd go there again, for sure.
Have been there many times. One of the better Japanese restaurant in town. The restaurant is always filled with customers from the orient which itself indicates the authenticity of the food at Dhalia.
For authentic Japanese food, I don't think that there is any place better in Chennai. Go try something new!
Ambiance: The interior of the restaurant actually feels very Japanese. The decor and seating arrangements are done in a very typical Japanese style. They even had Japanese television on while I was there!
Service: The service is okay. The servers are bilingual, which is a plus, but I did not find them to be friendly or overly helpful. But, they were attentive and did their job.
Food: The selection is really great. They have a lot of Japanese "home cooking," which is pretty rare to find outside of Japan. Also, they give tea and miso soup complimentary, which is a great (and traditional) touch. I've tried their sushi, shogayaki, katsudon, oyakodon, and udon. All the dishes are mostly good. The flavor is slightly different, likely due to the availability of ingredients. The only dish not really up to the mark is the katsudon. It wasn't bad, but the pork, egg, and rice all seemed overcooked, making the meal somewhat dry.
Cost: My one complaint is the cost, but there may not be much to do about this. Imported ingredients are expensive. However, it would be nice if they could find a way to make Japanese food more accessible to Chennai.
If you would like to try an authentic Japanese meal, right in the heart of Chennai, I definitely recommend it!
This is the best Japanese restaurant in town tucked away in a non descript building in nungambakkam. It's a quiet place run by an Indian and Japanese couple with their friendly staff. There is low seating as well as regular seating at tables. The food is excellent and made carefully with fine sauces and little tasty sides. My favourite dishes here are the prawn tempura and chicken/fish teriyaki set. The meal sets are priced a little on the higher side but they are sumptuous and worth the money. A meal for two with sushi might cost around 2500 rupees. Take your girlfriend here if you want to impress her. I was.
Love this little gem!
Found in the corner of a very unlikely building to find such a great place.
The food is fantastic, fresh and just delicious! The sushi and sashimi is fresh and it is such a great place to go to for authentic Japanese food.
Fantastic, but definitely expensive.
Well as many of you out there, I went to the restaurant due to my love for anime & Japan. At first glance, you will be like, "Hmm, it's ok" ;but wait until you try the food. It's authentic Japanese food and delicious. Its a bit costly but completely worth it. Be sure to try as many dishes as you can.
P. S. - You need an adventure taste bud to find Japanese food delicious & eat with chopsticks to have that feel.
This place is hidden away in a old complex building and I assume people who visit this place only get here if they were really looking for it. Dahlia is not one of those restaurants where you just "walk in" while roaming around!
My first observation about this place was that 2 tables were occupied by Japanese. This was good enough for me to trust the authenticity. Now, I am not an expert on Japanese cuisine but I was with one person who was and he loved it! The tables were well spaced and the TV also played a Japanese channel. It is hard to believe that you are in Chennai. The person taking my order knew the menu down to the ingredients which was so helpful for a beginner like me. Everything we ordered was just amazing and we did order a lot! Sushi's were very well prepared and the fish was just great. The only thing that keeps me from going there again is the ambiance. Dahlia does have 90's interiors and I wish they could jazz it up a little.
The food is obviously up to standard when the Indians are the ethnic minority in the room!
If you want the authentic Japanese dining experience, I really do recommend Dahlia. The food is classic Japanese and the owners are very particular that the seafood is fresh (you won't find any frozen smelly fish here) or they will not serve it.
You have to book a table as the table is pretty much reserved for the whole evening. Once you are seated, you can eat, drink and enjoy the company of your friends and family all evening. No one is trying to rush you out the door to make room for another customer!
You can find Japanese Manga in the library, Japanese TV shows running on the television and Japanese owners! Dahlia is truly a hidden Gem.
Little mom and pop Japanese place behind the complex on the nungambakkam main road. Great sushi, curry rice, friend noodles and shrimp fry. Surprised at the high quality of sushi and the curry rice. Could not believe i can get this Japanese quality in namma chennai. Awesome. Food rocks.
What can I say? One of my all time favorite restaurants! Yum sushi! And my standard order is the butter garlic squid, the ginger pork and the teriyaki fish! Brilliant stuff! :) the building is slightly run down but the food more than makes up for it!
Finally, a place that serves sushi that does not make us feel like Mr Ahab hunting down Moby Dick. Even in these five-star hotels, we devour the sushi quickly out of vengeance, not rapt euphoria. Dahlia, while it could have less eager spices and more relevant sauces, has really good sushi, especially the mixed maki one. You can find a lot of happiness in it, if you are lucky, the loveliest parts of Nemo too. Teishoku, a beast of a meal on its own, tastes like how roasted pork and pickled vegetables should. Yes, very very good.
The best Japanese food in the city hands down.
I go here so often that this place has almost become like eating at home.
Can never go wrong with Dhalia
A lovely experience and brilliant food. Been to Dahlia too many times to count and none of my outings have left me dissatisfied. The food has always been good with amazing service and the ambience just adds to the experience.
Limited seating and gets full really quick so I suggest booking a table.

It is a truly Japanese food & true non-vegetarian food. It is too Small is size (25 - 30), Better Reservations in a before day itself to avoid waiting time in lobby.
You feel like you are in Japan...Because all walls with Japanese painting, Japan timing & TV running Japanese program. Peoples surroundings are all Japanese/Korean. very few Indian can see in the restaurant.
Good taste as same as in Japan.
i love this place... keep up the good work guys...
It is very difficult to find the restaurant.
Quaint little place. Good Japanese food. Not easy to find...
Purely Japanese... Its amazing to have entirely different experience in seating, food and people around us. The food is awwwwwessome...! :) Service is good and they do help us in choosing the dish of our taste. There are a lot to try out.. I have been to there four times and still wanna go there again. They are truly Japanese when it comes to time-keeping..! (They close and open at the right time) I still dont understand why they are closed on Sundays... They have Japanese seating arrangements, Owners speak Japanese, Japanese Channel (TV) running in the hall, people around you are mostly Japanese - it is truly a Japan in Chennai :) If you ever go there do try out Sashimi ...
Food is a bit costly, but worth paying for... Not much crowd most of the time... Ambiance is average, but different. Its food- its food, that makes this restaurant my favo.. :)
This was my first time trying out Japanese food! I liked the miso ramen and Prawn tempura! I liked the ambience and the service. The owners were hospitable. Overall a pleasant experience 😊
The place has a great ambience and the people there are amazing. The California roll had transported me to food heavens with such diverse flavors.
This was my first Japanese restaurant and it did not disappoint.
Easily the best Japanese restaurant in Chennai. It is run by a Japanese-Indian couple and has the distinction of being the first Japanese restaurant in Chennai. If you ever wanted to try Sushi or other quaint sounding Japanese dishes, plan a dinner here. And hurry! The place might be shutting down soon - December 2018. Update in December 2023: The restaurant is operational. Apparently they mulled closure but are back.
This is a must try for those ppl who would love to explore different cuisine. This is our first time to try Japanese cuisine and it was a treat to our taste buds. Looking forward to visit again.
They have different seating style in one corner. Ambience was good, a homely feel restaurant.
Coming to food :
California Maki sushi was too good - 5/5
Tofu - it was melting in our mouth -5/5
Chicken Kara age - 3/5
Price was bit on a higher side.
Super authentic Japanese restaurant in chennai. Love the ambience and food here as it is so different than anything else we get here in Chennai. Would have loved a delivery option on apps tho
This restaurant is truly a hidden gem. A friend brought me to this place, and I was genuinely impressed. Upon entering a narrow alley, I discovered a humble door that led me into a cozy establishment with no more than eight tables. The restaurant is operated by a Japanese man and a local lady, forming a delightful couple.
Let me tell you, the food is absolutely incredible. We sampled the butter squid, a pork appetizer, and sushi. From the very start, we noticed the generous portion sizes and the authentic flavors that permeated every dish.
In fact, I was so enthralled by the experience that I completely forgot to capture any photographs of the establishment.
Went there on a Saturday at around 6 and they had seating available.
Our waiter Valli was extremely helpful and knowledgable. She helped us pick dishes according to our pallete and even showed us how to eat some of the stuff we ordered.
We ordered the Prawn Tempura Maki. Their Honey soaked Ginger makes also the difference to this dish and we absolutely loved it.
We also got chicken dumplings and a Pork Tonkatsu Ramen. The Ramen was really good, the broth hearty and the noodles firm.
For the Dessert, we ordered the Matcha Ice Cream and it was amazing.
10/10 Would highly recommend.
Authentic Japanese food and the first one to open in Chennai years ago. Great service and staff are really helpful with recommendations!
Moving to India, Japanese food is one of the biggest things I missed. Having tried many Japanese restaurants around Chennai I have never found one that compared close till today. Dahlia is now one of my favorite restaurants hands down. It is one of the most most authentic Japanese experiences I have had in India. They have been in the business for 30 years and have gotten the logistics down. The salmon sashimi is so worth it for the amount they give and agedashi tofu is exactly how it is supposed to taste. The californiaroll was huge and tasted exactly like the ones I have had in Seattle WA. The ambience is quaint as I would prefer to pay for the quality of food rather than a grand ambience.
Overall this is now my favorite restaurant in Chennai and thats not putting it lightly.
One of the best restaurants in Chennai for Japanese food. Sake is also available here. Must try dishes include the California roll sushi, karaage chicken, tempura and curry rice. Only downside is the restaurant is small with only 6 to 7 tables.
