C and I were up to some shopping in Adayar and had to have dinner outside. I wanted something light on my tummy as well as our wallet and we started looking for options around. It had been a while since we went to Gangotree. I have always loved chaat and Gangotree is my all time. So, we decided to have a chaat dinner that night.
Menu: 4/5
The menu is a chaat lovers paradise. You have all authentic varieties of chaat from Bombay, Delhi, Kolkata and other regions as well. Some unique dishes like katori chaat, raj kachori, jaal mudi, burger pav are part of their menu since many years, while other joints have started serving them very recently. In addition to chaat, they also have limited options of sandwiches, milkshakes and softy. They also have a very good variety of sweets and savories.
Ambience: 3/5
The ambiance is plain with seating on one side and sweets, savory display and chaat preparation counter on the other side. The seating is comfortable, the place is well light and clean. The ambience is very simple yet functional and convenient.
Taste: 5/5
The order: Rasamalai, Dahi Papdi Chaat, Channa Samosa, Burger Pav
C loves anything made of Channa in Gangotree. This is the only place he eats any of the Channa chaat. Their channa is so tasty and brings an outburst of flavours. The green chutney, tamarind chutney, onions and sev make it even more crunchy and tasty. We loved this as always. The dahi in gangotree is outstanding. It is so thick, rich, creamy and tastes very fresh. The dahi papdi was ordered just to taste their dahi and we loved this one too.
I had Burger pav for the first time in gangotree many years ago and I do not recollect this being served in any other restaurant/joint. This is pav bhaji masala filled in the burger bun and grilled with cheese and veggies. It was served piping hot and tasted yum! I am not a huge fan of milk sweets but C loves them. Rasamalai is always part of the order whenever we come here. Their rasamalai is very airy and spongy and tastes very fresh. Overall the food was lipsmacking, exactly how your chaat has to be.
Service: 3/5
There is only self-service. Usually the preparation is very quick, and your order is ready within few minutes once you hand over your bill in the preparation counter. You can always approach the staff if you need anything. The service is very straight forward, at the same time I have never had any complaints either.
Value for money: 5/5
For the full order including taxes, the bill summed up to Rs. 266 for two of us. This is a steal! A decent place to sit down and eat some authentic and hygienically prepared chaat without a pinch on your wallet. Our dinner was sorted at a price lesser than what we pay for food delivery apps and we were thoroughly satisfied and tummy full.
My take:
I cannot recollect how many times I have been here ever since my school days. Their pani poori, channa and dahi are simply outstanding and have been so consistent over the years. One of the best places in town to enjoy tasty and freshly prepared chaat on a budget. Gangotree is my all-time favorite and to go place when it comes to chaat. If you love chaat, you would have already tried this place by now and if not, this place is definitely worth a try!
The best pani puri in Chennai according to me at least. I like the plain masala puri here. The rose milk with ICE CREAM is just awesome. A must try.

You can find me here everytime I crave Pani Puri and Chaat items. Their Pani Puri is the best! A bit on the expensive side but it tastes so good. Personally I feel their softy ice cream is amazing when compared to so many other places. Not a fan of their Chole Kulche.
Want to have chat, the first place that comes to mind is this one. Simply out of the world. They have awesomeeeeeeeeee pani Puri. Their pani is just too good that you would have how much ever they give - mix of green and mita pani.. their green pani is kept in a clay pot that makes it cold though it is spicy. Masala paneer wrap is also good. They have this thing called as slush in selected outlets where you have broken ice with the flavoured juice on top. One must also try out their float (aerated drink with ice cream on top). Their chat items need no description. One must definitely not miss this place.
When you say the word " CHAT" this place instantly pops up on your mind. This is one famous spot for Chats, Sweets and Savouries. Been here several times but this is one of their very few outlets which has a good seating capacity- decent ambience. I've tried most of the dishes on the menu but would like to recommend one dish that would be a a total delight to your taste buds: Masala Paneer Wrap
Soft pieces of paneer cooked in a semi gravy masala with a bunch of veggies and cheese.This one is totally worth a try.
Conclusion:You'd be missing something awesome in your life if you have not yet tried this dish.
My favorite place for Pani Puri till date! Their other chaats are good as well, but Pani Puri is insane. Favorite place since childhood. Ordered in Swiggy as well. Neat packaging.
Good pani puri. And the best part is that they serve it to you which is how it’s meant to be eaten! The jhal muri was low on lemon and mustard oil. Quick service and decent place to sit and talk
This is my fav Pani Puri, Dahi Puri, Samosa chat and Bhel Puri place and anytime a Go Go for my sweet tooth.
Pav bhaji with cheese and Dabeli is so delicious and a must try.

Had my favorite dishes yesterday bhel puri and kandvi. They just made my day. The ambience was great, the service was good and top it all the taste was amazing
The ambience is good,the food they serve is really good, the staffs are polite. But is it expensive !? And my answer to that is YES very much. I have been to alot of chat shops in india and this clearly was the most expensive one. The food is tasty no doubt about it and the place is clean and hygienic. Bit to the expensive side though,and for me to an extend thats a deal breaker.

But the food is very good.
Its an exclusive chat shops. The kachoris and the samosas are really amazing ! The pani puri is also really good here.
It is self service only ! So youll have to go and the food.
The dhai chats are a must try.

Overall, it is a good place to have fun with your friends with some chats. 🎉
Everything's changed!!this used to be my favourite hangout spot when I worked in adayar...the recent visit made me think,"Nop!this is not the place I used to visit"...the chats are average but better than AB...the pani poori corner was my all time fav...and still is...the tables are swarmed with houseflies..thanks to their sweet sauces!!place is located underground...seatings are fine!!air conditioned!!A short visit or take away I would prefer!☺
A decent shop in heart of the city. Most of sweets are made of ghee and it’s delicious. I m big fan of sweets and had different sweets in halidrams, anand and many more. But this one is damn good. Chats items are available in evening. Over all a very goo experience.
Gangotree, a north-Indian snack joint having multiple outlets in Chennai is a good place to hop by and quench your hunger with delectable dishes from Gujarat, Rajasthan and North India.
Have personally tried 3-4 variants of chats-bhel puri, raj kachori and sev poori.I even tried pani-puri, kulfi and shree-khand. Everything was good and tasty to eat and every item was prepared in hygiene-hence the premium price! Pani puri(5 pieces) cost Rs 50. Yes! All chat items are priced higher than Rs 50 but that is the price that you have to pay if you crave for a hygienic eatery and a proper air-conditioned dining area.
Over-all, a very satisfying experience because you don't get such eateries a! Chennai that easily.
It would be great if you can open one outlet in ECR. Have to come all the way from akkairai to have chaat at your place.
The bhel puri and Pani poori are awesome. The pav is brilliant. Infact all chaat items are fantastic.

It's a nice place with a decent ambi, but I felt it's a bit expensive plus the quantity was less. Otherwise, it's a good place for a quick chaat :p

Nice ambience, liked the chats served. This outlet is recommended if you are in group trying to hangout for evening snack. Their pani poori is good.
Had been here 2 weeks back. The ambience is OK. The service is a bit slow. We had Jhaal mudi, Paani Puri, Vada pav, Bombay Sandwich. The Paani Puri at Shree Mithai is better. The Jhaal Mudi is good. Here the guy making the Bhel Puri and Jhaal mudi gives you a bit to taste to tweak the taste according to your liking, it is a nice touch. Overall a decent place to have chat at in Adyar.
I've been to this place many times in the past. It becomes a default place whenever my wife & I shop in the vicinity. It's our best place for chat. We visited it again last week Fri. We normally have food here over the weekend so a weekday was a change. It was far less crowded.
The ambiance has not changed much so is the menu... but the menu is adequate to satisfy most. My favorite is Somosa channa among chaat, Chilly cheese toast & Panneer wrap. I find most of the items are priced appropriately.
The best thing I liked about this place is that we don't meddle our mobiles & spend time talking. There is no signal as the place is in the basement of the building. :)
The only thing I don't like is that it is unorganized in receiving the KOTs and delivering the dish. it's a bit chaotic and we spend sometime standing in front of the counter. A proper numbered token system could be setup so we don't waste time in front of the counter.

The Paneer wrap was quite good. The masala filling was good, but the wrap was wobbly.
The 'filter coffee' was abysmal. Do not have it.
The Bombay Chutney Sandwich was a disappointment, seeing how the chutney made only a fleeting appearance and tasted, well, ordinary.
The Samosa Sandwich was quite good- on its own, and not just because we had it after that underwhelming Bombay Chutney Sandwich.
We finished the meal off with pani poori, which was good, as always. Pani poori is always a reliable option at Gangotree.

Simply awesome. Best Paani Puri in town, better than the main branch and other Chaat places in and around Cathedral Road. The Sev Puri was a tad bit too spicy but delicious nevertheless. Highly recommend.
Gangotree is one of my go to places for chaats.
Got together with some friends for evening chaat and chat.
Dishes we had:
💕 Masala tava pav: It was very good
💕Dabeli: Didn't like it . It didn't have the original flavour.
💕Vada pav: It was amazing. They also give a fried chilly(molaga bajji).
💕Pav bhaji: It was the usual;nothing special.
💕Rabdi malai : It was the best thing we tasted! It was creamy and rich.😍😍 Definitely recommended.
It is a good place for chaats. But self service and some orders take a long time.
Loveeeee this place. I would marry it if it was a person. Kidding. Chaat is simply amazing and so tasty and awesome. When I think chaat, I think gangotree. My friends and I call it Gtree in short. I go here almost every week. Paani puri, dahi paapdi are my must haves. Sweets are very tasty as well. The look like they maintain the hygiene standards, so it's worth the price. Milkshakes are really good too.

I've tried their bhel puri, pani puri and sev puri. All quite nice. The pav they use for their pav bhaji and vada pav looks a bit off, as in it does not look like the ladi pav. That's a bit nitpicking but overall, reasonably priced option for good chaat in Adyar.

Though the rates are bit higher, they absolutely worth it ! Pani poori and pav bajji is the best and must try one.
Whenever I visit this place, my appetite towards the Chats turns infinite.Such mouth watery and tangy are the chats over here. Even though I have tried out almost all the items over there, Bread Chat is my personal favorite. The place is spacious and hygienic unlike the outlet at Cathedral Road. However the mobile connectivity is very bad as the shop is at the basement. Now that's the big turn off here if you guys wanna spend more time here. Price might be slightly on the higher side but the quality of the food balances it out.
I rated 4 only for the chocolate sundae and dahi poori. Especially dahi poori here is the best i ever tasted. Other than these, bhel poori is not at all upto the mark and quantity is less. Cost of sweets toooo highh!!
Gangotri rewrite the standards of chat in Chennai! The place is in Adyar is good bit has no connectivity. This does not permit us to stay there for long.
The dhoklas, pav bhaji plus plus stand out . The sweets are rightly made and u get them fresh

Gangotree Adyar is a cozy little place. The chaat was good and the sandwiches were fine. Overall a good place to grab a quick bite if you are on the go.
Love, love, love their chaats and savouries. Did I say the word love enough? The taste and quality of their dishes has not once disappointed me for all the years I have been visiting them in Chennai. Must visit place for a yummy finger licking plate of pani puri and Paav bhaji :)
So, one of our Chennai friend is a big fan of this place and their North Indian chaats. We asked her to take us here and it was a good experience!
Ambience is simple. They have self servicing system and you have to show different bill slips on different counters to get your order. We had Chilly Cheese Sandwich, Pav Bhaji, Dahi Puri, Choco dip and Tea. Bhaji's quantity was very less if you compare it with any other normal pav bhaji plate. Everything was pretty tasty and pocket friendly. It costed us just 360 bucks for all!
A good place to eat chats. I've been to this eat out many number of times and still this place never ceases to amaze with their quality chats. But I like this place for their amazing Paani Puri. I've had my fair share of Paani Puri, and theirs is splendid. 4/5 for their Paani. The filling is simple and Paani is kept rangy, and the correct spice for the taste buds! Love the Vada Pav as well, and the ambience is good.

Been here more than a dozen times! A tad expensive but definitely worth it! Spicy, hot chat, sandwiches, juices, sweets and savouries and even ice cream. The cell phone reception is not that great, given the shop is in the basement, but that shouldn't stop you. My favourites are pani poori, Bombay chutney sandwich and the rasmalai. Yumm!
Contrary to the much hype given to this place, I was not soo impressed by the place.
Yes. The chaat was good. But not like, "OH-my-god-best-chaat-ever" good. Had Dhahi paapdi and pav bhaji. Very tasty. But still. Not the tastiest in Chennai or something. And for the amount I pay, I expect the quantity to be bit more.
The softies and sundaes were very good, though and the quantity was also satisfying.
I've probably been to this shop more times thank any other. Absolutely beautiful place.
The masala paneer wrap, dahi puri and dahi papdi chat are a must try. The dahi is very fresh and thick unlike your everyday chat shops.
The only drawback is the payment method but other than that it's a very nice place to have your evening snack

If you wanna grab a yummy plate of chat in Chennai, Gangotree is the place to go! Keep in mind this place is quite pricey, 5 precious gol gappas for 50 INR! Falooda is not authentic.. Can't expect it to be at a chat shop.. Taste wise awesome, but pricey!!
Used to be my fav hangout place during my college days... Loved their pani puris... Totally delicious and Mouth watering chaats they hav here... Especially the kachori and Oh not to forget the milk sweets

The most decent place for authentic chaat in south Chennai (Adyar area). The food is very decent in terms of quantity and quality. value for money is a 3.5/5 . Great for lovers of Authentic gujrati and rajasthani snacks as well as the famous kolkata Chaat. the ambience is pleasant and conducive to hang-out-hungry teenagers.
I'm a regular of gangotree adyar branch.. Many people don't know it's existence in adyar because of its location. It's at the basement behind the bus stop. Almost empty on weekdays, which is good for me lol.
They have THE BEST paani poori! The quality of dhahi in all curd items is rich.

I have been ordering a couple of chaat dishes and their onion pakora through swiggy.
I think anyone would agree that their chaat dishes are quite good. Their name stands for something.
On top of that my mother loves onion pakora and she has loves the pakora i get from here. So that has to vouch for something.
Haven't been to the place though. So cannot comment on the place.
Still the best chaat-only place in town outside of dedicated restaurants (Cream Center comes to mind). The joint in Adyar has a pretty wide selection and they're happy to modify/make the dish the way you like it. Long time haunt and a pretty good place to wind down when you want a short bite.

This joint is 'city famous'. Once upon a time, they served the best pani puri. After half a dozen of branches, the quality has sure gone down. Yet, gangotree being the only chaat place near office I do manage to binge in there often.
Located on the service road of Sardar Patel road, spotting gangotree could be a task. Also being on the basement makes it all the more difficult. But, with maps it's easy and the service road sorts the parking problem here.
The menu has some really nice chaat and sandwiches variety. The array of sweets and savouries are just delightful.
Inspite of not being the best pani puri I never miss to have it - EVERYTIME.
I like how cheesy and filling their sandwiches are, we usually end up ordering the grilled sandwich.
The chaat are good; my favorites being Jhalmuri and Dahi Papdi Chaat.
The Pav Bhaji is what missed to impress me even a bit.
I would recommend their Rasmalai and Khaman Dhokla, not the best but makes an impact.
It's self service, so can't complain there.
The pricing comes upto 120-150 rupees per head which seems good to me.

First things first, I am a big paani poori and chaat fan and to find a decent chain of this sorts in Chennai was a boon. While Gangotree as a chain is a good one, professional, neat and hygienic, what's been a let down is taste and kick which you usually expect in while savoring chaats and golgappas. Paani poori was way to spicy specially the water not well mixed. Staff can be bit more flexible and relaxed, seemed a bit tight and to their own. The ambience is very closed one with deem lightning, again not a good setting while food of such kind. Taste of other items again average. I am being generous in this rating purely because something of this kind exists and offers multiple variety across the city. However, they can pull up and make a killing given huge fan following of chaats and with limited quality options available

Visited this place a few days back with a few friends. We tried their paani puri , sev puri and channa samosa. Everything tastes great and the highlight was the paani puri. Simply outstanding.
Amazing place ! This has to be the best place where such good chat items are prepared! From golgappas to aloo Tikki chaats, this place is a must.
One of my favourite places for pani puri ! Their pani puri is one of the best you can get in Chennai. The other chat items are also good but the prices are on the higher end. The place is definitely worth a visit once in a while.

A lovely place tucked inside the basement of a complex where u'll never know the mad traffic and things happening on the main road.
I visit this place mostly for their #Basundhi alias Rabadi malai which is very mild in sugar but has a rich creamy texture that is absent in most other place where it'll be loaded with sugar and nuts. . The #Kulfis they got are amazing and again they're not rich in sugar but in dairy.
Another must mention is their #Pav bhaji and #Pani puri. Actually all their chaat s are good but my personal favs are these two. This branch of gangotree especially has got a big fan following who are all youngsters. They tend to come in groups during evening and weekends for a nice chaat and chat. . !!

I went for lunch to gangotree with my father, and my sister. They have some of the best chaat I know of. All 3 of us had bhel Puri, and it was excellent. Even though it had been quite filling, I tried some pani Puri. Extremely spicy in a good way. To end the meal I had some very good Gulab jamoons. The ambiance is also good.
The ambience here is really great! The place is very neat and clean. The price is not very high nor very low. I used to love this place before but over the years the quality has gone down. But still go there for the variety they have in chat,ice cream and sandwiches.
This is my favourite gangotree joint. Spacious, hygienic, not that crowded and well organised.
The outlet is larger compared to the other outlets, is in the basement.
The grilled cheese sandwich was overpriced even though it tasted good. The cheese would melt in your mouth and all worries forgotten.
The pani puri and the "special puri" in gangotree should not be missed.
Any chaat item couldn't have tasted better elsewhere.
But i'm not a big fan of their Punjabi samosas because I think they have too spice.
The staff is not that hospitable and make you wait for quite some time.

One of the sweet shops which serves some good chaat items like bhelpuri, pao bhaaji, gol gappe (paani puri)...they make some awesome malai rabdi...the adyar branch has good service and neat ambience.. good way to cherish the street food of north India in Gangotree while you are in Chennai..
A classic snack corner almost all the chennai foodies would have tried this place. Though it's a bit expensive you get to taste delicious flavours of platters. I generally have dhai puri and badam milk as well as the cheese sandwich to number it there are a lot of dishes that needs to pointed. All over a best place to have sweets, snacks and cold milk drinks
This place doesn't requires any introduction but it was the first time I am going to the adyar outlet. Neat place and we took pani pooris and kulfi. Paani poori was good as usual but only minus point is the guy who serves you. Somehow they don't carry a smile and they just keep giving you the next one like a machine. I understand that it can be done at times when the crowd is too much. Certain brands carry their reputation because of its tag and most successful brand do it because of its service! That one was missing. Anyway kulfi was also good and a must visit place if you are a chaaat piriyar👌🏽👌🏽

My go to place for north Indian street food! The ambience is nothing much to talk about and it could use some north Indian charm and gaiety.
Their chats are simply amazing! I love their dahi samosa chaat and their pani puri is sumptuous!! However I was a little bit disappointed about the falooda, it lacked richness and flavour. Haven't tried out too many dishes from here but will be doing so soon!
Panipuri , is something’s different and unique taste in chennai! gangotree is always special for there pani puri, Bombay toast sandwich !

Had been a fan of them since 2003 and amazed at the way they have maintained their taste, quality... felt so after visting them again recently after a long long hiatus.
The new additions of #egglesspastries is quite a welcome move.
Just a few suggestions -
* Please add a hygeinic gola cart in summer
* Please maintain the premise a little more ventilated and airy , not with only airconditioning but also with cross ventilation
The fact that it's such a contrast to the amount of the crowd seen near Nungambakkam branch makes this place much better than anywhere else in the city.

A very Very consistent place to have chat and other short eats.. it’s a no nonsense eatery where the pani Puri is delicious and u keep having it .. the chats are fabulously made rt there and then .. it’s self service but for the price totally worth it .. Chennai does not have a lot of good chat places so this is highly recommended .. pls do try if u love chat and it’s completely vegetarian though parking is a challenge here ..and there is no wheelchair access ....
