This place has its name for more than 3 decades now and they manage to keep it till now. They are famous for serving the best pork dishes in town. They have ample parking space even though situated on a busy road and their ambience and interiors are just amazing. Their service is so quick in a prompt timing. The Sezchwan pork was so spicy as its name suggests and the pan fried pork noodles were both crunchy and soupy in consistency which wss very different to have. A must visit place for pork carvers.
This has been my yummy place to relish ever since I was in 7th standard way back in 2001. Since then, I have a pleasant history with this restaurant.
I love the authentic Chinese auto that the restaurant gives. And also the mysterious Chinese immigrant hotel owners.
I'm greeted by a display sheet on the table (it's there on every table) which contains a small Chinese fortune telling pamphlet.
The soups are a perfect start to your meal. Personally, I like lung Fung soup or the hot and sour. The preparation is so unique, with their unique Chinese flavours.
I don't have enough expertise nor knowledge on the side dishes. The varieties are too many. And each time, I order a different one from the menu.
The price is exorbitant. But it's definitely worth. The experience and the taste are definitely worth the price.
I heard that the quality has dropped these years. I'm not sure. I had my last meal last year.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Zubin.
My childhood favourite Chinese restaurant. I'm 40 years old now. I have been eating since 1984. I love the sweet and sour pork and the chilly beef.
amazing ambiance
authentic chinese food
amazing taste
good quantity and quality car parking available
a good hang out with family and friends
We went to Liu's after a whole day of craving Chinese. The previous Zomato reviews did make us a little sceptical but the place has been around for more than 30 years now. It was necessary to try and we're glad we did. We were pleasantly surprised by the food. We ordered one mixed soft noodles and dry shredded lamb with green chillies. The quantity was more than enough for two people, as opposed to what the reviews had alleged. The food came close to authentic Chinese and we did not spend the next day in the bathroom as many others have written. Go here for a quite, good time with good food. The only problem was no desserts. 4/5.
I’ve been wanting to go to this restaurant since time immemorial seeing all the reviews in Zomato of how it had been one of the long running establishments. It doesn’t feature in legendary outlets but just seeing the place I could imagine how it’d have transcended generations. Although being next to my favorite shopping store I don’t know why it took me this long to go to this restaurant. But finally I went on a busy Friday night traffic into this empty restaurant.
The parking space is chic, there are rooms for few cars. The restaurant is again a no nonsense one. Looks like a proper Chinese restaurant rather than something which has been made ‘Chinese’ just for the sake of it. Food I don’t know whether it was really authentic Chinese, for I’ve not been to China.
We settled on the last sofa chair. The sofa was dirty. We asked for normal water which was bad so shifted to bottled water. We hardly choose bottled water anywhere because mostly we get mineral water from can but here we didn’t.
Our order was small. We had a Prawn Quaitho, which is nothing but flat noodles. There were a lot of prawns and big ones that too so it tasted really well. In Beef items we were suggested Fried Chilli Beef which was terrific. It tasted as soft as lamb and was cut into small pieces. Spices were properly added and it had right amount of green chilies in it. Being a Chinese restaurant, naturally the quantity was huge so two of us couldn’t finish it. We took home and the third person also couldn’t finish it completely. We’re not having huge appetite that day but still, it was large for two.
For packing two items we were charged 3*10 = 30 rupees. Not sure how. Didn’t notice it there. For some reason I’ve a soft corner for this restaurant so giving it a 4 instead of 3.
Epic Chinese lunch at the one & only, legendary Liu's Waldorf! It was the place where my parents used to have their weekly date night dinners circa 1977! I've been going there since 1987. Still the same.... No difference! Excellent taste, large portions and courteous staff over the years have made this place a hot favourite. Things I recommend you should order Fried rice, Noodles, beef chili fry, chicken lollipop (saucy version), Chinese salad, hot & sour chicken soup & Hot Garlic chicken gravy!
Ordered traditional Chinese food like noodles, manchurian and fried rice. The quantity was amazing for the given price.
The food too was yummy and service was great.
The ambiance was very good. Must try for everyone.
The food here reminded me of the Chinese restaurants in Tangra, Kolkata. Good authentic chinese food but parking is a bit congested. Would like to visit again.
We have been coming here for the last 20 yrs atleast and I should say that the quality remains absolutely the same!!! One of the best authentic chinese restaurants in town.. Cheers!
This place is a part of my childhood and I have had many happy times with my family eating at Waldrof for the past 35 years. This place was a haunt for my parents during their college days way back in the 60s.
The food is always authentic Chinese . One of their best is the Waldrof Special gravy style noodles along with their garlic pork. Comfort food at its best. The chilly beef is another specialty and I love the lamb quaitho gravy noodles. Chef Peter really brings out his Chinese heritage in each dish. I always love going back to Waldrof hungry for more.
I would recommend this restaurant. Beef Meat Balls are really good here , Same Chinese taste. In fairness the service was excellent and the prices were reasonable.
At the end of the day the phrase "you get what you pay for". The food, atmosphere and service can be counted on to always be great. I wish I could come in the summer time to enjoy this restaurant.
This a very old place, it gives you good foid at a good price, had the pan fried chicken noodles with chilli chicken at the side. The place has a nice ambience and is a place where you can eat peacefully.
From my knowledge This is the place where i used to go for more than 2 decades and dad has gone these for 5 decades
Our favorite place
it's ambience
it's food
it's gentle music
the year paper which they keep on the table is our favorite from childhood (doctor,lion,rat,rabbit...)
those Anna's were so humble to us always
although it was expensive we love it...
best items were hot and sour soup
fried rice
noodles
Manchurian and chilli chicken is best
but I feel very sad to see very bad reviews of it
I don't want to argue about it but if it's true pls management take step for it to make it to the same level bcoz true fans like us don't want to lose you...
Pretty good restaurant with friendly staff and very good food. Seldom had to wait long for service.
Doesn't hurt to ask for suggestions and they're happy to guide you .... It might not always be the best times to try seafood for instance , this does apply to all restaurants and no harm in asking, if that's what you want to try. Not much that can go wrong with the choice of meats though.
Personal favourites have been Hot and Sour Soup, Lollypop Chicken , Fried Wantons , Spring Rolls, Waldorf PAN Fried Noodles , Crispy Fried Pork, Chicken and Mushroom and I do like their Chow Mein
and Fried Rice as well. Haven't tried their fish much and the only seafood I try is Golden Fried Prawns .
Been going to Waldorf ever since I was a kid and thought I'd write them a review . Yes , they have indeed had their ups and downs but it wasn't ever about food. It's the best Chinese you can get in South Chennai given that it's a bit adapted for the Indian palate ... The best time really is lunch or an early dinner because Chinese food can be heavy on you . You got to keep in mind that if you're eating healthy eating Chinese isn't the thing to do ... It's all about taste and with a mix of spice and sauces that is just perfect for when you're eating out occasionally .
The food is really good! We ordered chicken sweet corn soup, chicken noodles and chilli chicken. The ambience is good. Overall a must visit.
This has been our go to family restaurant for past 10-15 years. Always left with a satisfied meal. Simple tasty food is what they offer. Tried the chilli chicken boneless, chicken Manchurian gravy, fried roast pork, fried beef onion , veg noodle and veg fried rice. Good quantity. Only drawback I felt was the batter used to the coat the meat before frying was flavourful but tasted very pasty. On request, all the food was made without ajinomto.
One of the best Chinese restaurants in the city, probably the country. The place has been there for donkey's years and is just as good now as it has ever been. The staff are very friendly, the ambience is nice and the food; It is super tasty. On the down side, parking is a huge issue as it is with any place in a big Indian city. However, if you want tasty, authentic Chinese cuisine, Liu's is the place to go to.
This restaurant has been there for ages. My parents went easily more than 10 years back. And I go there now. Sure it's not the greatest looking place nor does it seem like it might have the best food. But I'll say this, you want Chinese in Chennai. This is the best you can get.
The moment you step into the restaurant, the smell of Chinese food greats you. It has a spacious layout and the ambience is laid back.
I ordered Veg. Singapore noodles and fried baby corn. The noodles tasted well and came in good quantity, enough for two. The baby corn on the other hand was neither crispy nor done in schezwan style and is an absolute no.
However, a friend recommended the pork served there.
One of the best Chinese food in the locality .... been going here since a long time now and I jus love the place ..... food is jus really yum and there is plenty in options as well best part is they even deliver .
Since it's close to work, we decided to drop in there for lunch once and one time after that since I loved it.
The ambience and pricing is similar to Rangi's (close to Gemini Circle, if anyone recognizes). The menu is similar too;stocking everything from chicken, seafood to pork, beef, etc. The old school, make-believe Chinese decor gives you a perfect China Town feel.
I really like their chicken manchurian. The first time, I didn't wanna risk and decided to have my usual choice of Chilli garlic noodles ( When on doubt, always go for chilli garlic :P). Quite yummy. The second time I visited, I tried their chicken Quathe Noodles ( Not sure if that's spelt right). It's essentially flat noodles tossed dry in that pan and herbs and spices added. That was really tasty!
Guess I'm gonna keep going there more often :D
I loved the place. We went there twice. The food was very good n tasty. Quality of food was also very good, had no problems.service was good n friendly staff.
I have been visiting this place for more than 18+ yrs right from the time when it was a full non a.c hotel. But even after 18yrs when I walk in I see familiar captains. Their Chinese horoscope on the tables remains. So nothing much have changed other than the interiors.
Over the ears the charm n craze of this place has come down. That's mainly due to more number of options now. I feel the taste of the food is relatively same over the period of time.
My favs: waldrof spl soup, chilly beef, their pork dishes are also very good. One of the best fried rice and noodles they have.
Cons: car parking is very limited, this is a place where you should go on time for lunch and dinner. If you are late then you need to place all your orders at once
If this place had a mouth it would tell you stories, this was the first awesome Chinese restaurant I visited since I came from humble beginnings, my dad brought me here as his first (corporate) salary treat, (ex-defense guy you know). It's squeezed into a tight little inset at the near end of sardar Patel road. I was in awe of it, probably the first authentic Chinese restaurant I've been to, but I was probably 12 when I first visited this place and every time we are in the area we do not fail to drop in.
The food here is amazing, fresh sea food is guaranteed , I remember eating one of their tiger prawns and it was simply sensational, the noodles and fried rice over here is brilliant you have large portions which can be split into 1/2. The soup that you get Here can send a cold running for the hills, it's yummy, spicy and delicious. Its decently priced as far as i could tell i enjoyed paying for my meal of 2. The memories I have here and the food just evokes tantalizing tastes, they truly deserve a whole hearted 4
Service is splendid you have very patient suggestive waiters who are smart and formal in their approach. It's a small restaurant but some good things come in small packages. The tables have a nice Chinese zodiac references which keeps you entertained till you get your food. Ambience and service gets a good 4
That parking is quite a hurdle as very few cars can be parked probably just 5 or 6 at the max but if you can get a chance you should definitely try visiting this place.
I have been going here for over 10 years on and off and I still love this place. Good beef and pork and love their mixed fried rice. The taste has reduced over time but its not bad at all. Will keep going back!

+3.5
Traditional Indian Chinese has changed with the times, but you can still get some of it here. This is one of those places you went to when you were a kid, had some wonderful memories.
There are very very few places in the city which stick to their good stuff, and Liu's Waldorf is kind of mixed that way. They haven't changed their decor - still the red, Chinese decor that brings back memories. The quality of the food is also mixed - some starters like chilly beef was good, while some were bad. The egg fried rice and veg noodles was okay. I feel that Waldorf transports you to an era long long back where time stood still and this was one of the very very few places one could eat Chinese food. Today there are many many chains of Chinese restaurants - many I would call plasticky food, not good at all but we got used to it. But here in Waldorf, one needs to go back in time and enjoy it for what it is.
A Chinese joint that is very rare to find in chennai. Gives a very desi touch but the food is amazing, gives the feeling of eating in Calcutta. Amazing Singapore noodle, garlic chicken and very great portions. Have been eating here from ages and is an excellent place for some good Chinese.
Good place to eat not sure if its authentic close to chindian 😛😊 but its good, prices are moderate good quantity chilly lamb, beef stake and chinese chopsway are really good.Parking may be a problem but apart from that its a great place...

Update quality of food has gone down :(
A place with a lot of great memories. I have been visiting this place from since when I have a small kid. My dad was a regular here in his college days. Having said this, I wouldn't say it is the best place for Chinese, but it is not the worst place either. Enjoyable food which is very delectable, and one of the few places in Chennai you can have delicious Pork. :) This is one place my whole extended family enjoys visiting. :)
Went here on a weekday afternoon. So the place was empty and service was pretty fast. The menu is very mixed up and not easy to look through which was a problem. Food was decent, not great. Not many options for vegetarians but a decent experience overall.
I visit this place , whenever i feel like eating chilli beef . They make it so good in chinese style , chilli beef and fried rice are my favourites .................
Member of three had a very good time in waldrof. We have order chicken fried rice, sea food fried rice, veg fried rice & the dragon baby corn and waldrof soup. except the chicken and veg rice other two items were good. Parking is quite OK for the two wheeler but not for the cars except one. I can rate the food as the above par, if you are true Chinese food lover you should at-least try once. Finally the amount for all three came around 960 which was quite high hasn't expected.
Came to this place as it looked pretty old and rustic. The food was awesome and the staff very courteous. Would definitely recommend this place to all
I have been going back here for the past 3 years. It's always a welcome respite from the usual oily and spicy food around town. I'd brand this restaurant as Indian Chinese, clearly seeing the influence of both cuisines in the fare.
Coming from a country where Chinese restaurants abound, I really find the food here interesting and eclectic.
I've never had any bad experience dining here, and in fact like the way the head waiter is able to recommend good veg dishes, saving me the trouble of having to sift through the menu. Almost every time, he gets it right. He reminds me of Tommy Chong, by the way.
Overall, I'll keep coming back. I'm happy with their dishes that keep me amused, the ambiance that makes me think I'm somewhere else, and the waitstaff that seems to have worked there forever.
Was introduced to liu's by a frnd who has been visiting this place since he was 5! N i am coming here for the past 5 yrs. The food used to be Great. If it's chinese we want, then waldorf it is.
My most fav here are Singapore noodles, chilli fish, chilli chicken, waldorf spl soup, manchow soup n I guess I can write all their dishes here.
N their chilli beef n chilli pork are real famous n tastes the best!
The taste has been deteriorating fa the past two yrs, that's y my rating is 3.5 ow it would actually be 5 :) :)
But I bet they are still better than most of the very famous Chinese restaurants in town!
Rating:
Location : 4.5 / 5
Parking : 5/5
Ambience : 3/5
Service : 3 / 5
Food : 3. 5/5
Price : 4 / 5
Another stalwart of Adyar, they have been serving Indian Chinese food since a loooong time.
Most people were sceptical of this place back in the day and the best part was that they used to serve beer back then. Having stopped now they draw a large family crowd and the food is still great!
