Saravana bavan is one of my favourite for all-time โฅ๏ธ
Nothing could be compared with idly immersed in piping hot sambar. Look at the ghee floating above sambar

Be polite and friendly. I like it very much. Lunch also too good to eat.#like_it #love_it #repeat_it ๐๐. I like the place very much.and love the lunch.
So Saravana Bhavan goes a long way back for me. We used to visit it back in Dubai and visiting it in Chennai gave me loads of memories to ponder upon.
The Sambhar Vada was awesome, as the Sambhar had perfect thickness and right flavor to it. Though I was a little disappointed with the Parota Dosa Combo as the curry was cold and rice felt like it had been kept outside for ages. Though the bill was extremely affordable.
Finally if you go down, they have the best filter coffee and butter cookie combo which is awesome to taste after a good round of meal.
Overall a good experience and a must visit if you are new to Chennai and want to try some authentic South Indian dishes.
Sunday after we finished lunch suddenly one of friend came he wanted to have sambhar rice.. So I decided to order from saravana bhavan and to my surprise the packing was amazing with papad, pickle, poriyal, sambhar, rice... My friend enjoyed it to the core... Amazing packing... Delicious taste... Thanks to saravana bhavan for amazing offers..
Good and delivery on time

One of the largest delicious South Indian vegetarian restaurant ๐จchain in the world located near ashok pillar delicious taste & quality with a pleasing ambience in a fairly busy location and we had
14 mini idli:- They are 14 mini idlis ๐dunked in steaming hot delicious tiffin sambar. The porous soft idlis absorb the sambar and ghee is sprinkled at the top๐ฏ. The tastes was so amazing. Chutney can be obtain on request ๐๐ฝ
Dosa:- There are so many varieties of dosai๐ฅ and I opted for plain dosa๐ฅ. They are then drizzled with oil and made into a crisp dosa which is served with 3 types of chutney and sambar๐ฅ๐๐ฝ
Barotta :- 3 piece of flakier๐ฅ, moderate parottas which is paired with 2 types of kuruma๐ taste was okay ๐ค๐ฝ
Chappati:- chappati ๐ฅwas very soft and delicious served with two types of kuruma taste was good๐๐ฝ
Poori:- 3 pieces of soft and fluffy poori๐ฅ served with lip-smacking urulai kizhangu and kuruma taste was deliciously amazing ๐คค๐๐ฝ
The waiter were attentive and service overall was good!
Nice taste.. Best quality from Saravana Bhavan.
This restaurant branch ideal for south indian Tiffin varieties has now updated their menu with millet varieties and steamed starters which healthy for both tooth and stomach๐๐ their millet mini Tiffin which is given in morning is a new and excellent effort ๐๐ it would be best if in all of the branches they update with millet menu
great food with great taste
on time delivery and we can always expect a quality food from saravana bhavan
This is our second home. Can see us here every weekend more than once. The service is good in the second floor but in fact for a non-ac HSB style even first floor service is pretty good. Love their ghee dosa, dry fruit rava, north Indian combo, sambar vada.. but more than that there is no getting away without tasting their masala pal..heaven! There is a bakery sweets section in the ground floor not their best part but in the same place they have coffee and pakodas served in the evenings. Ambiance is super family friendly, neat and bright. The icecreams are all natural fruit made and the butterscotch praline is a must try.
Acoustic taste and authentic food ever....
Just the sambar and chutneys taste yum
Especially the tiffin items are pretty good
And it was delivered on time with good quality and service
Keep it up ๐
Paradise on earth for the veggies, quality is at the helm in this joint. Ambience, attitude of the service personals are a real plus. Quantity might look a bit low, but the quality never suffers. Parking is well managed.
Been here multiple times with colleagues and friends..
But it's time for Saravana Bhavan to add new items in the menu.. large varieties of Dosa and so on.
I still remember the same items I used to have in Delhi in 2012 too..
Ohh awesome interior design and attractive copper vessels my favourite 14 idly thats so yummmyyyyy love it red chutney sooo good love it best place for everyone because everyone will love it
Ashok nagar saravana bhavan has been trying new things rice varieties in millets and other healthy varieties. I dint take a chance to try it becos i was craving to eat something tasty. We ordered one mushroom sizzler which the captain suggested and one mushroom dosa and meals. Mushroom dosa was really nice but was bit costly mushroom sizzler was awesome but i had to complete the whole thing it had cheese stuffing and indian spices. Meals was fine.

I had special paper roast from here which is one of the specialties here. I have become a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig fan officiel paper roast now. It's too crispy and the red chutney they give with it Wooooow!!!
I've been the regular customer for HSB almost Ive tasted food n almost all the branches n chennai even n Delhi too! Only south Indian foods are good over here ... Biryani and pulav noodles are extremely bad. But I love there tomato soup nd sambar โค maintain quality and service ...dont lose customer like me!
Place to go if feel like eating only veggies. Food tastes really good but the quantity they offer is not worth the money we pay. Cost is really high compared to all other vegetarian restaurants. Juices are really expensive especially sweet lime ๐ . Please check the ordering menu before placing any order of juices ๐ฌ. They provide good variety of combos which are really a plus. Cleanliness is also quite good. Some staffs are really polite but some are there as if we came to eat with their money ๐พ
Tasted veg special meals , North Indian special meal and Jackfruit milkshake. Was hygienic and good quality wise and quantity wise. Jackfruit milkshake was thick and tasted extremely delicious.
Long time.... Had a successful, on time delivered and good tasting food all together from saravana Bhavan... May be I might start things improving over next few orders.. Good going
Visited the recently renovated Saravana's outlet near Ashok Pillar.
The lower level was earlier a fast food seating outlet. This has been now done away with and converted into a sweet and bakery shop.
The family restaurant above is now the only seated eating area.
Ambience โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ
Tables were now set out with copper water tumblers and jugs which is definitely an improvement over the earlier steel vessels.
The lighting is good.
Table placing is adequate, not too cramped.
Service โญ๏ธโญ๏ธ
Even though it was a weekday, and there were hardly any customers, it was slow.
When we asked for hot water to drink, we were served with boiling water. ๐
Food โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ
The menu had changed quite a bit. Apparently, they are leaning more towards healthy eating, which is a commendable effort.
Each table was provided with a steamer in the centre. The water used is vegetable stock and is heated via a cable running along the steel leg of the table. This steamer is used to store the idlis that are served.
Note: Patriots need to be aware of this and take care of their small children.
Our order:
Mini idlis in sambar ๐๐๐
Idli and vada ๐๐๐
The vada had a different texture and taste. Realised later it is made of kollu (horse gram, said to have medicinal properties)
Even the idli looked and tasted different from their earlier version.
Special dosa with sweet potato masala ๐๐๐
They stopped serving regular masala dosa with potato. Although I like the taste of sweet potato and know that it is a healthier alternative, it will probably take us time to get used to it being used in the masala stuffing for the dosa. It was also very filling.
Poori masala ๐๐๐
This also was served with sweet potato masala. My friend had to waste three fourths of it. Found it too heavy and impossible to finish. Maybe they should reduce the serving quantity.
Filter coffee ๐๐๐๐
Thankfully this has not changed. It was yum. The tumbler used for it was the traditional steel with the outside coated in copper.
One consideration! I wonder if it would be possible to reduce the wastage of food. I couldn't help but notice, that even I did not finish all that was on the plate. The chutneys and sambars etc. Felt really bad!
Anyways, Saravanas has always been a favourite vegetarian restaurant for the past 14 years of my being in Chennai and we will be definitely visiting it soon! The next time, hopefully, we will be prepared for the altered flavours!
P.S: really liked the new menu books! ๐๐ป clear and concise writing!!!

This new look revamped Saravana Bhavan near Ashok Pillar has introduced new menu of Healthy food probably a first for HSB. Rice and Flour have been replaced by Millet and Potato by Sweet Potato and so on. The healthy starters of steamed momos stuffed with delicacies ranging from Tofu to Vaazhappu are a must in your order list. We tried several of their millet dishes and all of them tasted super great. Service was great and the new decor of some of the choicest Tanjore paintings adorning the walls was brilliant. Highly recommended whether you are diet conscious or otherwise
I am an regular to this place, spacious & neat place, service is ok, food is almost monotonous in all their restaurants, their paneer dosa, mixed barota & crispy rava dosa are really good, the newly introduced juices are nice. ย Their all items are very pricey for the quantity they serve . The Sarvana Bhanvan SAPAD which was an hit product has lost its charm due to the price & changes made . They have introduced lots of combos but most of the times not even 50% of them are available . Staff needs to be more courteous & prices has to be reduced.
Saravana Bhavan is one of the best veg hotels in TN. But the renovated ashok nagar branch has something special. They started to use samba rava, kuthiravali rice, kollu and many more millets which are completely organic. These are very good for the health and they have altered some taste that more or less is equal to the regularly given one. Price is compratively high but worth for the food. They have tried something new and it worked
Been to this outlet too from the 3 outlets at Ashok nagar.
I was with my family so took seats at ac hall.
The ac hall is not kept so luxury, only pricing was so high comparing to normal seating hall.
Tried chana batoora ,veg pulav,Mysore masala dosa ,2 fresh juices from their new beverages menu.
All food and beverages were just average and didn't have any extraordinary experience.

I am a great fan of their filter coffees and dosas. I had a chance of trying filter coffee and medhu vadai from here, along with my friend, while passing through this area in an evening. Filter coffee was great. A sudden refreshment comes on having that. Vada was hot but not crisp.
I am travelling in TN and my first stop was Chennai. I was taken to Hotel Sarvana Bhavan by my Couchsurfing host on my last day in Chennai for breakfast.
I have seen just one HSB in Delhi.
And here, there are legions of them.
I had a plain dosa with sambhar and three different chutneys.
I really liked it but I think it was pricey.

Food was really good but the taste from 6 or 7 years back saravana bhavan is missing somehow... service was not timely and very poor response today may be due to past 09:30PM.,. we always like to have it from Hotel saravana bhavan...
Good veg meal-175 rs
They give unlimited rice , sambar , rasam everything
But you cannot eat too much there easily becomes full
This branch is now fully air-conditioned. If you get down from the Ashok Pillar Bus stop, you can head here straight for the breakfast. You have clean washrooms too where you may refresh. Overall, this is at a good place. I needn't say anything about the food, it's stock Saravanabavan and iy will taste decent. Great quality, but no matter what you eat, the quantity is not sufficient.
We ordered mini idle, appam and dosa
Mini idle was mind blowing Vera level
Appam - was good
Dosa - good
We visited here in dec 2023. Climate was chill they provided the hot water, good.
Timing we visited here is around 10.30 am.
Ghee roast paper dosa was awesome as always...can give medu vada a pass even during the best of days though..Sad to see an iconic place shutting down branches one by one
It was my 1st time in Chennai and my brother took me to this place. Vada and dosa were awesome. Kesari hit the spot. Clean place. Great service.
Our go to place whenever we are in Chennai. This place amazes with its simplicity and charm. Simple south Indian food but has the old world Chennai feel to it. Other than the fact that the place is over booked and you might have to wait, this is one of the filling thalis you will get to have in Chennai. Must try.
Hotel Saravana bhavan they are pioneer of food industry, after Mr.Rajagopalan it was went down, but now they are pick it up, food quality is good, but manpower hv to increase , since am coffe lover coffe is very good today

Atomosphere is good
Price is higher than normal hotels but worth for the money.
Decent parking space, prime location.
Had podi dosa at late night. Usual taste. Even now a days normal budget hotels providing dosas better. Only for brand and ambience prices are quite high.
