This is the oldest and probably the best veg restaurant in Chennai, they served authentic south food, ordered special thali price was around 120 rupees, they served almost most of south indian dishes in this thali, this thali is enough for 2 people,if you are live in Chennai or a visitor in Chennai and want to taste authentic south indian food than this restaurant is must try.
We visited Doveton Cafe in Purasaiwakkam and ordered below items.
1) Parotta served with Onion Raitha,Vegetable kuruma and Veg chops.
2) Rava Dosai served with Sambhar,Coconut chutney,Kara Chutney and Pudina chutney.
Parotta was excellent and the layers in parotta was coming one by one and tasted superb with the side dishes, it was crispy and fresh.
Rava Dosai was crispy and went very well with Sambhar and coconut chutney.
Parotta is an must try dish here.Doveton Cafe is an old restaurant in Purasaiwakkam and still maintains the taste.

Happy Dining!
This place has been here forever. I remember going here 30 years ago. You get that warm feeling when getting into one of these places, like the Palmgrove or Ashoka or Savera. The feeling of stepping into another era where you didnt have to know english or hindi to order south indian food. It is one of those places where you can ask 'what is available now?' and instead of pointing you to a menu card, the waiter will actually tell you everything that is available. It is one of those old style places where you'd see a 70 year old uncle who stopped by just to have a coffee. The interiors have been modernized long since what it used to be, but the taste is very familiar. If you are in the vicinity, and are looking for a proper south indian veg fare that used to be so common when Saravana Bhavan was its peak, step into Doveton Cafe. Especially for their evening snacks, from thayir vada, to bajjis, to vadacurry and more. It is an economical place where you'd be happy to pay more for the old school service and the home style taste. Go for it.
Very good restaurant I love the food and cleanes. Please continue this work. And give us more offers.thank you soon l much for ur delivery all the best
One of the oldest and my fav veg restaurant in Purasaiwakkam...we tried masala dosa , onion rava , chapati and parotha....masala dosa and parotha were really good...Chutney and sambar we refilled regularly without us asking them ....service was good and fast even though we went late night ....must try spot ....
One of the best veg restaurant in Chennai since years ! The hotel has 2 different seatings ac and non AC ! Usually we have to wait as the restaurant is crowded! Food taste is perfect and good Ambience.
Food was awesome and taste and quality is too good... Staffs are also very polite. Their breakfast combo and mini tiffen is awesome. Lunch is also fine and satisfactory.
I've been here several times and never once disappointed. Fresh, hot, and quick meals served. We love the breakfast spread and the south indian stuff. Dosa, vada, kesari etc.,.ย It's good onthe tummy and my mother prefers this place as it is light on her systel as well - she hates hotel food other wise. So a good, place to dine at when you are hungry.
Nice taste of food. I like the rasa vada which itself is quite filling for the evening snack and also pocket friendly. Except that the crowd and parking issues are a big mess holding to visit this place frequently.
The ghee roast dosa and ghee masala dosa is way too good. Chutney and sambhar also tastes good . It is a cozy place. The thing is they take much time for serving the food
One of the oldest cafe in Chennai heard from so many times food was so good well maintained too nice parking space falooda was not that tasty but we enjoyed the over all experience

My favs are butter naan, gobi Manchurian, paneer butter masala, chilli parota nd chilli idli... ๐๐๐๐๐

Was able to have more without restriction due to food quality.
Hospitality was good.
Parking is a issue in peak time.
Overall taste is good. Can be chosen for medium crowd for fun filled party

Hospitality - 5/5 very courteous staff, old natured
Food taste - 5/5
Pocket Friendly - 4/5
Ambience - 4/5, perfect for a normal meals restaurant
Taste - 5/5 - one of the best sambars I tasted. Rasam and Curd were also too good.
Rate - 4/5 - normal meals at 70 is very much pocket friendly and worth more than the money we paid. Though chappati set was bit costly at 48rs
A must visit restaurant if u are opting veg meals for lunch
Even in this hot climate the non ac section of restaurant feels cool
Some fine South Indian food at this restaurant. Here's my review.
Interior: Normal
Service: Good
Presentation: Good
Taste: Good
Must try: Meals
We have been going to this cafe from the time when the meals used to be 8 rupees and dosas were sold at a 5 rupees.
Doveton cafe, located nearby the purshaiwalkam signal near the doveton church is a landmark by itself.
Famous for their South Indian meals and snacks, the place has been renovated a number of times over the years yet the taste has not been compromised.
During a recent visit we tried the pooris with potatoes and idli vada. The food served here is fresh and tasty to bits.
Pocket friendly and hygienic.
A must try if you are in the area.
A pretty decent restaurant with affordable food nd good taste.
Quick service with lots of variety .
Have tried masala dosa, chola poori .. both r good.. they serve good coffee as well.
Overall a good place to eat .
Few places are always nostalgic every time I step in.. Doveton cafe is one among that.. have visited this place since childhood!! It's a landmark for
Doveton!!
Their USP is the evening snacks such as, Mysore bonda, vadai, onion bajji and chenna bhatura!!! Not to mention their tiffin items which lingers your taste buds!!
On the recent visit placed order for a ghee dosa, onion rava dosa and the lip smacking Mysore bonda๐ The taste has never changed.
Service is ok. It's crowded mostly and you need to wait to get into AC hall as it accommodates only few..
Parking is a problem here as it's mostly occupied with auto's. Apart from these cons there's nothin much to barge about.. Its superbly pocket friendly ๐
Would strongly recommend to try their evening snacks and tiffin menu!!!
Dropped in by 10:00 pm...ambience was moderate though inviting.. ordered for gobi manchurian, mixed veg curry, phulka, aloo paratha, lemon mint drink n mango milkshake. on seeing the menu card i was skeptical since the gravies n starters costed in the range of 90-120 bucks.ย The prices seemed to be little less than what was expected, so was not very sure of the quality of food. But to my surprise, the starter and the gravy was very tasty n palatable.... come on forget about the nutritional value ;-)ย phulkas n aloo paratha were gud to eat, but could have been much more better...major problem was that they were not hot..but still quite tasty n soft to eat, definitely not chewy. mango milkshake was a pleasure for me... u know i am smart !!! ;-) ;-)...Tip: while trying some fruit juices from a new place best go with the seasonal fruit...thus mango milkshake was a safer move... lemon mint was refreshing...but do buy mineral water to rescue your taste buds from the water supplied over there... in toto a gud eatery and pocket friendly...will visit once again!!!
Verdict:
Ambience- ok
Service- good
Quality of food- good
Thumbs up !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Doveton cafe has been my fav place for their chilli fried idly since my childhood.
Haven't tried them recently though.
But I did try their idly, sambar rice etc..
Idly I personally loved it.. it was perfect but mom says those kind of idlis arnt good for health.
Anyways its okay to have them once in a while.
Great taste and variety.. a good choice for a lunch hangouts with friends and family.. reasonable price. Good service.we tried Naan with panner butter Masala.. was delicious.had a good lunch
This is as event place for breakfast. I went here to take a dosa for delivery for my mom. Service was quick and prompt and my mom said that the dosa was also okay.
Great food, we had the special thali and two lemon mint drinks. There is a great amount of seating in general; but limited seating in an A/C section that holds maybe 20-30 people, and seating there may be shared. Tourists should be Tamil-speaking or with a local, to properly communicate your order.
Had visited this hotel after long time for my favourite south indian meals. Had superb taste asusual infact it is still better than before. Rates are also reasonable. Must visit once if u r traveling in puruswalkam area. Hope u wil not disappoint.
Just had my breakfast here. The food is amazing and the ambiance is pretty good (I'm sitting in the Ac room so yeah)
The idlys were really soft and perfectly hot, the vada was nice and crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The ghee roast dosa was out of this world, it was not too crisp like papads and not too soggy but right in the middle which was perfect.
Overall I give this place a 4.5/5 on the whole.
I would definitely recommend this place for a nice breakfast in the morning.
One of the well known restaurants in the locality that had stood steady for a long time, Doveton Cafe seems to have been refurbished recently retains its old world charm with a mix of medornity. The place looks cleaner and tidier and the food tastes good as ever.
I tried plain dosa and sambar vada for breakfast. The sambar in the sambar vada was delicious. A spoon of ghee lends a delectable flavour to it. The vadai needs be soaked in the sambar a bit more. The vada was half seeped in sambar and half dry. But the taste was awesome. The plain dosa was also good. It was a huge and the sambar and chutneys that accompanied it made up a good combo.
Service was good, fast and fully professional, no scope to be friendly. Cost was okay. Overall a good breakfast option.
For good south Indian fare that doesn't smoke up your wallet. Our family's regular Sunday breakfast place after church. If you want a quick bit in the Purasai area check them out.
Doveton cafe is a hotel for breakfast lunch and dinner. It's little bit spacious in hall. Ac hall is too small due to Chennai heat we mostly opt for ac hall obviously.
Food taste is okay there r some limited and unlimited mostly they offer thali like south Indian and north Indian thalis.
Ambiences is average.
Parking is up to 4 cars.
Five for quality food for decades and especially the chilly parotta which they serve is the traditional crispy red one ... Presently i hardly find hotels serving chilli parotta in such style
