good quantity and quality and delivered warm
Thick phulkas but made very well. Veg kofta was also great. Thanks for not adding colours and other random masalas. Thank you for packing it in aluminium covers.
The food was so delicious
Aalu Parantha was awesome!
timing is good fast service
Aalu Parantha was good, lassi and methi Parantha below average, so 4 🌟 for aalu Parantha and 2 🌟 for rest of the stuff.
wholesome and tasty food ..
Best Paratha in Chennai....keep it up....
I used to get onion and lemon with the parcel. now I don't get it.
rajma masala was excellent!
they should provide raw onion and green chillies.
Food was upto the mark, but quantity of food was less for prices they charge.
Got food home delivered from here. On time delivery and no billing errors. Packing is average. Charged for it, but not even spoon and tissues were given; which is very basic. Orders: Icarus special Sarson ka saag, butter phulka & Punjabi kheer. Tasted really good!! 😍
Ordered about twice from this place. Pretty average food, decent quantity.
Rajma rice combo - seemed pretty good.
Butter chicken - extremely watery, well cooked pieces of chicken though.
Also being a minute away from home, the delivery guys take ages to deliver.
Their food tastes very good. But the delivery was too late. I ordered Phulka which was soft .I would rate it - 4/5
Aalu mutter was fresh and delicious. I would rate it 4/5
Overall ,if they improve their delivery speed they would do better.
food is good but delivery was very delayed

Was in need of a quick lunch. And prices in the menu on zomato surprised me. So gave it a try.
Had phulka, bhindhi masala and lassi
Phulka was a fair deal at 12/piece. No qualms
Bhindhi masala was decent at best. Have had better versions.
Lassi was good, nothing special
Prime location. Decent staff. Very average ambience
Bottomline - Nothing wrong with a quick lunch.
Could have been a little hotter
delivery time is tooo high
Aunthentic dishes and great taste.Dal is awesome
ordered food online from this restaurant today..
order @1 rajma @2 dal tadka
food was awesome true desi North flavour..
only issue was with delivery .. :p ...
Zomato delivery is very slow
Only had their home delivery twice, so no idea about ambience or service. The delivery was a bit late but not a deal breaker. The food is quite good. The roti is very good and homely. Hits the spot. The bhindi was fantastic. The tandoori chicken was great too. The chicken rice dish was okay, but too spicy and oily. Good for days you don't wanna cook and want some home style food. They can hold back on the oil though.
Ordered twice through zomato first time was Rajma chawal and egg burji and second time was cholay masala and pulka. Both the time the delivery was very bad and took more 1.5hours but both the time food taste was fantastic. Would order again from here when I'm not in a hurry.
Tastes good .. my friend finds her tummy happy with this dhaba food 😀
A change in ambience will make the dhaba super cool
Overall, happy meal
Difficult to locate on a busy egmore area, this place surely surprises you with the food and service... Affordable with quality food should do justice to this place... Have tried the famous chicken Rahra, kheer along with mutton curry and chicken dahiwala... Was really impressed by the Rahra chicken... The gravy is simply awesome and stands out in the menu... Typical Punjabi flavors and spices... The other items were also good if not better...
Would love to visit this place and would recommend it to ppl to try out good Punjabi food...
Good non-veg, north Indian food.
Rarah chicken, Mutton curry, Dahi Chicken curry, Lassi and Kheer must try. Price is average.
Bit difficult to find at first, situated at 2nd floor in a white building.
I would rate them a steady 4 because of the level of authentication they provide with their preparations. Be it veg or non veg, they are always on the spot with the taste. I've been ordering from here for quite some time now and am impressed with the quality on offer. It has always been a delight to have food from Icarus cause they maintain a very good balance of ingredients in everything they make. One more thing to consider is the price they charge and I'd say that as to be quite reasonable.
The only thing that I'd like them to work on is the quantity of rice they offer with the sides and mains. Otherwise, everything else is right where its supposed to be.
I've had a great experience with Icarus to be honest and look forward to ordering more whenever I'm back at Chennai.

Nice tasty food, asli Punjabi. Ambiance to be improved. Cost wise ok. We were hardly dozen sitting in hotel and serving time took quite longer!! and not sure what if the whole place is full. Another disadvantage is on the parking, no proper place to park or no valet. For the cost and the Taste alone can rate them 4!!
one of my favorite casual restaurant in chennai.
- Mediocre ambience
- Decent and quality food
- Vegetarian friendly.
- Pocket friendly
Unfortunately it is unrated and it is placed on 2nd floor.
This is a jewel hidden in Egmore...its bang opposite to the museum. Been visiting this place from 2008 onwards. If you are not fancy about the ambiance, this is just the right place for an authentic Punjabi cuisine. Their phulkas and chicken curries are to die for. The prices are reasonable and worth every penny.
Great value for money! An authentic taste of North.
Had dinner there, bill was only 665/- nice :)
Only complain, A/C was not working and in Chennai humidity its a nightmare
A place for decent Punjabi fare. Nothing great about ambience as such except that it looks a bit weathered. I liked the rotis most which were really hot, nice and tasty. Fried chicken and lassi both were quite good. Kulfi unfortunately was not up to the mark and left a stale after taste.
Icarus, Egmore:
Even Di Caprio got his recognition much earlier than Icarus, I think. Probably, this is 'The' Most underrated Restaurant in Chennai. 15 years now, Icarus has been operating from the same place opposite Museum in Egmore (Above 5 Star Store).
If you are like me, who doesn't mind parking vehicle some yards away and walking to the destination, climbing 2 floors, don't give a damn about fancy interiors and love some True Blue Punjabi Food - Icarus is the place to be.
What a meal it was! It's been a week since I've had it and I am yet to come out of the state of Euphoria, the food here put me into. Total Bliss!
The Order:
The Masala Peanuts was freshly made with a light hint of lemon. Crunchy and tasty at necessary levels. What first impressed me about the Paneer Tikka was the 'No Frill' presentation. The slightly charred taste from the Grill, exactly what a Tikka should be. Mind you! This is a Rustic preparation not the usual Restaurant fare. But, yummy, nevertheless.
Chicken Pakora and Chicken Chatkara - I don't know if I'll be able to conclude which I liked better. Even though both were so different in the way they were prepared when it comes to impressing they both win together. Chicken Pakora at first glance looked like Fried Chicken but trust me it's preparation is so different in all levels. The Chicken inside that crunchy layer had been marinated in Indian Spices and the Chat Masala sprinkled on top - OMG! Chicken Chatkara was tangy and spicy, a combination to die for.
Be it the Aloo Paratha or Gobi Paratha or Lachcha Paratha or the Butter-y Naan - Everything was Top-Notch. Perfect! Perfect!! Perfect!!!
The Rarha Mutton was very well prepared. They don't need my appreciation 😛 as they have been awarded for the Best Rarha Chicken by Kingfisher Food Guide (Source: A Wall hanging in the Restaurant). So, that says volume about this particular dish.
My search for the best Sarson Ka Saag in Chennai, ends here. I can now rest in peace. No exaggeration when I say that - This was THE best Sarson Ka Saag. Plate-Licking good! 😛
And then comes, Baingan Bhartha, please read the above paragraph again by replacing the word Sarson Ka Saag with Baingan Bhartha. 😉 I'm running short of ideas to even describe the goodness of the food here.
Rajma Chawal was a typical homemade preparation. Spot-on with spices and taste. I needed a tad bit more of salt. A complete Comfort Meal on a plate! Yum!!
Drinks: I had Jaljeera Soda and Masala Cola, multiple times. I'm really not sure of the count. My friends had Sweet Lassi and Jal Jeera water. Everything was perfectly made.
Total cost was ₹2010 for 5 good eating Adults, including the multiple drinks (12 Nos) and 2 Mineral Water bottles.
The Dessert Icarus Special Kheer was on the house and it was heavenly in taste. Just like how I prefer my Kheer to be, with little sweetness and mild richness. Perfect end to the satisfying meal.
Friends introduced me to this restaurant. Something about this place gives the Punjabi vibe. Excellent food at economical prices. Liked the juicy hariyali chicken and lassi the best.
Though located adjacent to Alsa Mall in Egmore, it'll definitely take more than a few glances to notice this place. An article in The Hindu made me go here for lunch one afternoon. The food is good. If you are near Egmore longing for nice desi meal with some authentic taste, this could be a great place. I am not a kind of guy, who puts more emphasis on ambience. So, rating it only on the basis of the food served.
Have a good meal.
Authentic Punjabi Dhaba experience in Chennai. Highlight of this place in Dal Tadka and Tandoori Roti with a good closure of Lassi or Kheer.
Love their food. Its really yummy. Gotta try their rich mutton curry, awesome bindhi fry, soft fluffy hot rotis and end with the delicious kheer. I can't say much about the ambience, they should improve in that area. But you cant go wrong with their food.
This is a kind of shady place. It is hard to notice this restaurant even if you are standing in front of it. Well the food is quite good and economic also. Home delivery is also available. Just the lighting was very low, felt a little bit odd. Overall good food best price so worth a try.
This is a great little place tucked away on top of an old building. The food is Punjabi and the best thing to have here are the paronthas. The Gobhi Parontha especially is the best almost like my mom used to make. Since she is no more this is the second best parontha I can have. Other dishes are also very tasty the rahra chicken special the starters. No artificial colours of flavours absolutely home style food.
When you want Punjabi food in Chennai, this is where you should be. Great parathas, phulkas, and their Icarus Special Rarha Chicken. The food here is lip-smackingly good. In fact, the food is so good that you forget about the totally strange interior decoration that the place has (keeping in mind that it doubles up as a bhangra coaching centre during the day). The servers are usually very helpful and attentive. Quantities are very good. Totally a VFM place.
Not wheelchair accessible. You will have to climb up two flights of stairs to reach Icarus.
I wouldn't judge this restaurant by its misleading name. Unlike the mythological Icarus this joint neither has wings of wax nor does it fail to reach new heights of gastronomy. I think I can safely make a bold claim here. This is easily the best punjabi food you can find in Chennai. I frequent Icarus during lunch time and a few things about this place just makes it hit the sweet spot. Firstly, their rajmah chawal is the closest thing you'll find to what mum makes at home. Secondly, the option of fresh and hot phulka rotis right off the stove is a welcome change to the otherwise rubbery naans. Finally its run by a sweet ol lady who's styled the menu to authentic punjabi taste. I'd recommend it to everyone!
I have been eating at Icarus for over 15 years. The food is so homely, tasty and delicious and hasn't changed one bit over decades. It is simple, fuss free. Of course being a vegetarian, I can't comment on the nonveg part. What sets this apart is the parathas. The aloo, Gobi, and methi parathas are thick, juicy and scrumptious. Divine is the word. The sabzis are basic but still tasty. The service is always friendly and with a smile, endlessly serving straight- from - the tava parathas and rotis. What is saddening is that the place does not get the patronage one would expect. But the plus side is that we can always have a quiet meal. Guys don't miss the parathas - they are the best I have eaten anywhere in the south of India, and I must say I'm very fussy about my food. I have introduced all my friends and relative s to this place and they have all gorged on their parathas. Keep going Icarus.
One of the best places in Chennai to eat North Indian food. Phulka, Jeera Aloo and Rajma are my favorite here.
Just good for the home style punjabi food. It is as authentic as Punjabi food can get in Chennai. No ambience, slow service, negligible plastic dishes.
Phulkas are perfect.. All food are fresh and like home made. There is no chance that you are served anything stale anytime.. Kheer is wonderful and it has exact amount of sweet that never let's you feel hesitation due to over sweetning. You won't get such kheer anywhere else in Chennai I believe.. You should try the kheer once or you really miss something wonderful.. I wish and hope this restaurant maintains its standard forever keep its customers happy..
Exquisite North Indian cuisine. You got to try it. The ambiance may not be too pleasing but the food is great !
The parathas here are amazing. Very simple fuss-free food. Ambience is basic. Very quiet place
Freshly prepared food. Good to taste. But its taking more time to prepare. You can enjoy with your friends
Great food. The restaurant itself is not great. A little run down and not much ambience. Go for the food, or get it to go!
Best Punjabi daba style hotel. North indian dishes at its best
Nice place for authentic north Indian food, forget the ambience
Great north indian food just like home.
Best North Indian food in Chennai. AT LOWEST PRICE
