Art.cafe, has a lot of art in it. Liked their authentic chetinad snacks. Paniyaram, masala Vadai. The place is silent with a lot of sculptures and art around as ambience. The place is entirely managed by third gender. Total respect for tht. Way to go. Thanks for the inclusiveness the owners are showing.
To start with the right food you need while you are hungry, I suggest you to take this restaurant as a first choice. If you are not looking for heavy Tandoori items that is considered always and you think you need a break from it, go to this restaurant and have it. Variety Rice and regular meals are excellent when you starve. The staffs are quick to care for customers and help to serve you better anytime.
Go for it and enjoy.
A good place a healthy variety of meals. It will definitely remind you a little bit your grandparents food stories. The variety of healthy meals will make you come again for its taste as well. A healthy time can be found in this place.
Nice ambience. Great food. Worth the money.
Definitely a must go cafe. Even the service is awesome. Overall, surely a '4.5' place for a great experience.

A nice place to hang out with friends or family right next to Higginbothams! The food is mildly spiced and should appeal to most taste buds that loves a healthy south indian meal. The soups and the food are said to be sourced directly from the farmers and have an authentic flavor. The paayasam was especially awesome.
Had A Real Great time having the milletsl Based MEALS to start with a starter of potato fried was awesome and mushroom soup was good and the thali had all delicious porials ,kara kozhambhu, the cucumber avvial , tomato chutney and a couple of porials sambar rasam was yummy with perfect spices
This is one such places where you least expect a restaurant. Poompuhar is one of the longest running entity in Chennai that's been undertaken by the Tamil Nadu Handicraft development corporation. It's an official craft market place for the artisans and art enthusiasts. But, what happens when your art thirst is quenched but when your stomach actually grumble as you have forgotten to attend to because you were carried away by crafts around? This restaurant is in the backside of poompuhar and also has a separate entrance. I recently was called to check out this place by the Chennai bloggers Club. Ms Mital was kind enough to explain us the history of Pompuhar, Sankrritti and the association with craft cafe.
It's not difficult to miss if you know this iconic location, still you might miss out due to metro construction going next to this. Has sufficient parking space.
Ambiance is outta question, effortlessly erected the whole place with bamboo, almirahs filled with crafts. The seats and tables are full on bamboo. Bronze statues around gives a divine feel.
First we were served pudina cooler which tasted refreshing. The water tumblers were made out of copper which was healthy. Had their south Indian Thali of the day. This had Rice, coconut rice, roti, spinach, pullikozhambu, sambhar, rasam, urulai poriyal, cauliflower pakoda and sakkra pongal. The roti went along with the keera kootu. Pullikozhambu had a spicy edge which is usual but the Sambhar and poriyal also had spiciness kicking in that actually was not my cup of tea that day as I was not up for spicy food. The rasam complimented the cauliflower poriyal and it was the best dish among the lot. The pongal sweet was so good that made people go for second round.
Special mention to Mr Don who facilitated the servings in no time. The team looks small but promising. Pricing is not affluent but essential.
The restaurant stands for its name Craft cafe, the ambience gives a calm and traditional atmosphere with bamboos and statues. Last week when I was looking for newly opened collection in zomato i narrowed down to craft cafe. This is going to be a new destination for the vegetarian folks. I love their apple bhaji and filter coffee. The maharaja thali is something I would vouch for.
AS I enter Craft Cafe on Mount Road, I can’t help but notice the exquisite bronze and wooden sculptures adorning the passageway. I soon learn that the art and craft is from the adjoining Poompuhar showroom, while the place belongs to entrepreneur Mital Surendira who has converted a run-down 1,500 sq ft space into a quaint 45-seater art café. The walls are lined with bamboo, as are the roofs, in addition to being covered with handmade mats that are used at Surendira’s packing and gifting solutions enterprise, Sanskrriti. The noise of the city’s busiest road is drowned by a soothing Ilayaraja melody in the background. “I wanted to create a space where people can enjoy a laid-back nutritious meal,” says the mother of two, as she tells me about the cafe’s health guidelines. Less oil, fresh locally-sourced vegetables and palm sugar are the preferences in their South Indian menu. After trying a murungakkai soup, Surendira orders me her favourite, the Maharaja thali. I find myself looking down at a millet dosa, chapathi, kurma, a serving each of bisibela baath, curd rice and vegetable pulao, in addition to plain rice, sambhar, poriyal, appalam and a sweet. The bisibela baath is my favourite, of course helped by more than a dash of ghee. Then I try a masala vada that is tasty and surprisingly low on grease. The apple and pineapple bajji are also interesting options for those who like experimenting. A coffee junkie, I find their cuppa just right for washing down the heavy meal. “Every bite should remind you of your paati’s cooking. I enjoy eating here for the same reason,” adds the 39-year old. She hopes to expand and set up another branch at Sanskrriti’s main outlet in Egmore soon.
This place is located bang on the centre of Mount Road...Being the most busiest road in Chennai, I had my apprehensions as to a restaurant situated there could provide for a peaceful dining. To my surprise, the restaurant is beautifully set up with bamboo furniture and the vintage statues from the annex Poompuhar showroom adds up more vibrancy and colour. Food was delicious and truly South Indian. MIllet Dosa and Carrot Payasam were my favorites. Definitely a place to visit again. Overall a very good dining experience.
It's been a great time in craft cafe. The ambience, the silence and the artistic interiors is a great experience.
Food tastes the best. The Sanskriti 's products are well displayed. Overall a fabulous experience
Perfect place to host a small party or get together for up to 50 people. Good ambience. Good service. Splendid food. Overall we had a great experience!
This place is awesome with authentic South Indian food , Maharaja Thali is a must Try for any one wanting to have a sumptuous meal in a cool and relaxed Ambience , Tasty food and taking care of health , Right Place to be in with Friends and Family .
We had a birthday Party with 50 people. great ambience. Food (including the cake) and service was fantastic. One of the best place to go to surprise your guests with different kind of food and ambiance.
They prepare food after taking menu.. Tasty, yummy n different foods they offer... Low cost, Sema ambience
Ambience good, lots of craft work, bronze and wonderfully carved wood statues, delicate works, bamboo design well maintained, food is a bit costly but worth it. Friendly staff, owner was casually talking about their works and understood that craft cafe management has a craft works center and they have their own display stores in two other places. Nice experience.
Had been there recently, was reasonably good. A small and quiet place in the heart of bustling anna salai! The menu is short and food is south Indian vegetarian. Service was polite and prices affordable and worth the dining experience. Definitely worth a visit!
Small cozy restaurant with decent ambience. Tasty food at very reasonable price but limited menu. Worth the money and became one of my favourite place.
Good gift items --traditional and artistic--made of brass and sandalwood, as also Tanjore paintings available at Poompuhar showroom at competitive prices. Gift packing also done.
I should really appreciate the taste of the traditional south indian food here . Awesome and nice ambience. It's cheap too. Try this place
The staff was polite, the food was economical and tasty
