Went here with friends some time back. Ordered a typical South Indian thali, veg briyani and cauliflower manchurian. Finished off with jalebi and grape juice. An amazing meal for a very hot day !
The rosogollas are a must try here !
Nothing beats piping hot filter kaapi in the morning!!! Fresh coffee beans brewed in the traditional south Indian bronze filter from @grandsweets is sure to give the boost for the day!!
This was recommended by a local collegue when we visited for Veg Tamilnadu meal. Authentic and typical taste. The spread of curry, rasams with being guided what after what with rice was a experience. Cheers to the good food.
I recently went here to get some south indian food that I love since childhood and I ordered the paniyaaram (sweet and savoury) unfortunately I didn't have time to eat it right away so I ate late in the night , though the texture of the paniyaarams changed but it tasted good though specially the sweet one , it tastes jus like Adhirasam but they have to improve in packaging .. i qas travelling that night and unfortunately I had to dip the savoury ones into a cover for chutney, they should give t in a box so that it's convenient for everyone...
Just had an amazing experience at The Grand Sweets And Snacks. The store is very clean, hygienic and well maintained. A friend took me for an authentic South Indian meal. On the way back we picked up Puli Kachal mix. It reminded me of my friend’s Aachi’s home cooked food that I used to have as a kid.
GSS is one among my very few favorite veg destinations. Though I have already written review for their mylapore outlet, again writing because I had their mini meal n loved it.
Yeah, it was that awesome! We were running late n that's the only excuse for me n my dad to hit a veg place. This gss is on the main road n has huge parking area.
It was 11 n they hadn't started with meals yet. So ordered a mini meal n chappathi korma.
Mini meal had 3 varieties of rice- sambhar, curry leaf and curd. A sweet, chappathi n a poriyal. I fell in love with the sambhar rice instantly. It was totally yummy with mashed rice n had wonderful aroma. In fact, I told my dad that it was better than my maa's prep which doesn't happen often in the south cuisine :D chappathi korma was good too.
Also bought my fav n their signature snack, manoharam which as always was exceptional.
One drawback is that, the hand wash area is out in the front parking area. So when you gotta handle your wallet or phone after eating, you have to take a tiny walk :P
Grand sweets has always been my favorite sweets and savories destination. This one in spur tank road is beautiful. There is so much parking space and the place is huge. Its located right in the main road so its really easy to come here. The crispy jalebis are a must try if you go there. It tastes delicious. All their savories are mouth watering. One should taste their seedais. Its so good that you would ask for more. The perfect place to buy sweets and savories for any occasion.
It was really good..the snacks are really good. most of them are really good. But the Ambience is good. The people should be a little friendly, they don't show much interest in customers..but otherwise its good
Review only for Sweets and Chaat Items:
This is a nice place to buy quality Indian sweet dishes. Great prices too. The ghee sweets are always top notch. The sweets here have a nice fragrance. People watching their waist lines should avoid this place like plague! :)
I come here once a month or two to buy sweets - Paalcova, Bombay Kaaja (my fav), rasagulla, etc. I rarely buy other crunchy snacks or powders. You can close your eyes and buy here.
I used to frequent the Mandaveli Grand Sweets too (not marked on Zomato), damn it used to be crowded.
Here, it isn't that crowded. Tables are usually free. The chaat items are of good quality and quantity too. A plate of dahi puri feels like a meal by itself. The chaat items possibly come close to as good as Gangotri.
Nice ambience, the front portion of the shop is completely transparent. Ample parking space.
I have not been to the first floor which I think is the restaurant part. You can read other reviews for that portion. (Pun intended)
Note: The outlet is on a one way road, where traffic is heavy and fast. There have been accidents on this stretch. Drive safer than usual while reaching this place.
I enjoy places that stock traditional food that you don't get that often. My family members that don't live in India keep sending me lists of stuff to buy from Grand Sweets, especially the podi bottles that you don't get easily in normal stores. The décor could be a bit better but decent for a South Indian fast food joint. I always enjoy the flavours whenever I visit.
*This area grand sweets for dinner i went horrible service , food was like 1 day before made people of chennai and india beware from this area sweets were not fresh ...idly was cold. ... just beware food is just horrible ... the staff are like dead people lazy ..... what they cook fresh only god knows .. people this place sucks really... , whats best in grand sweets are hand murukku , jalebi , and snacks , the sweets stuff are excellent thats why it doesn't leave chennai , its in bangalore toooo , but food stuff grand sweets & $nacks can do much better keep nice staff and chefs toooo cook fresh foood ...
*Over-all :-8.9/10..
Had been there to this place at the insistence of my father some time back as he had a great experience during his last meal here. The airconditioning was playing truant and it was a bit stuffy and insufficient for the place.
We started by ordering soups - I asked for mushroom soup. It turned out to be a pretty bland fare and I could figure out the corn flour slurry .This was followed by our order of naans , rotis and curries - mushroom masala , dum aloo , palak paneer.
The dum aloo was a masterpiece and was too good , the palak paneer was also above mark. Looks like the chef messes up any dish with mushroom in it (the mushroom masala was a thumbs down : ).
we wrapped up our meal with a serving of carrot halwa , which was ok to satiate our sweet tooth.
Service was a bit slow and could have been more prompt.
Grand Sweets is a place which suits the name it has. The shop has seven branches all across Chennai and they have the same taste in most of the branches. The branch at Chetpet is on the Spur Tank Road, right opposite to the State TB Center. The property is huge and the shop is spread across two floors which comprises of the sweet counter on the ground floor and a full fledged restaurant on the first floor. The sweets are spread across milk, ghee, halwa, and Urandai items along with different snacks and other Tamil Nadu specialties.
The restaurant serves a wide variety of recipes specially South Indian delicacies and North Indian Chats as well. You can have South Indian Meals and North Indian thali as well during the lunch hours. Overall my experience with the restaurant and the chain has been good. My favorite is the South Indian meal and sometimes some chats from the chat menu. The service is good for both the sweets parlor and the restaurant. Plus sometimes they offer some sweets if your sweets order is not delivered to you in time.
P.s: Try Mysore Pak and Halwa in the sweets parlor and South Indian meal in the restaurant.
situated in a huge building off spurtank road, the entire building looks swanky and stylish.
The chaats here are really good especially the north indian chole patura and such. Among the savouries their thattai is by far the best in chennai. Their sweets are also good but not sri mittai range.
Ample parking space and good service.
a perfect evening snacks hangout with friends/family.
Grand sweets is famous for sweets & snacks like tatai, ravaladdu and very special the dhonnai. Dhonnai plays a key role in the Customer satisfaction. Because I heard that dhonnai will be served to customer when they have to wait to get the parcel delivered. The only sweet stall that understands customer's time is precious. Mean time please make sure that you are taking steps in rectifying the musty smells and pest problems like flies and mosquitos as they cause a negative impact in your esteemed environment. Areas to be taken consideration are T. Nagar, Chetpet, Guindy and Porur.
Appreciate your service for your quality sweets and snacks.
Regards,
Kishore

Evenings in a weekend, when my mom and me is too lazy to fry a bajji or prepare a filter coffee, you can always drop in at here to enjoy their decent chats, kuzhi paniyaram, Pav bhaji or vadai with hot filter coffee.
Or at weekdays, when you are already late, but packing a good lunch is on your schedule, you can rely on their Podis , Thokkus and Pickles.
Going to visit a relative, get their murrukus or chips or sweets and you can get the kids smiling. Outlets spread across the city, you can pick up items from any outlet. I have also visited their T-nagar branch, and its equally good.
This Grand Sweets and Snacks is a fairly huge outlet, neat and clean and spread over two floors. The have prompt service by staffs, and you need not wait long to get our food.
Every item is prepared hygienically and keeps up the authenticity. They serve a decent varieies of ghee and milk sweets, murrukus , podis and thokkus to choose from. I am not a great fan of their sweets (being a Bengali), but my friends love their sweets. Their crisps are a hot favorite of my colleagues at office.
Thirty plus. That's how old this shop is. Quite naturally, it has evolved over the decades. Grands Sweets is the city's best known and one of the first shops of its kind. Started as a sweets and savouries (purely South Indian items) outlet operating out of a traditional home in Chennai, with a huge yard and lots of trees in a residential neighbourhood, it has many branches across the city now with modern interiors, and some have added restaurants into the premises.
There would not be a typical South Indian Brahmin family that has not haunted this place, whether a local or a visitor to the city. Their sweets, savouries, podis* and pickles are legendary and have traversed continents, seas and shores. Their free prasadam** that is distributed every day is so delicious that there is a queue of people who come by just for that. Grand Sweets takes great pride in ensuring all their sweets are made with pure ghee (clarified butter) and have long been a stamp for quality, hygiene and consistency in their products.
The recent split within the family has been a source of great sadness for many who associate Grand Sweets with Chennai and vice versa. Quite naturally, the many branches that mushroomed nearly overnight do not convey the same homely touch, taste, ambience (possibly the swanky glass interiors and polished flooring are the culprits!). They seem to be doing well, however, with people still thronging to their numerous outlets for the sheer brand status, despite the higher pricing.
I recently visited one of the restaurants and ordered a simple meal of roti (dry flat bread), kadai vegetable subzi (stir-fried spicy mixed vegetable curry), and dal (lentil stew) - primarily North Indian staple dishes. Wasn't sure I had chosen wisely from the menu considering it is a pure South Indian eatery until I had a bite, or two, and then some more. It was simply delicious. The menu card is a thick bound paper book that reminded me of high school drawing books. It even had pencil sketches of images portraying Indian kitchens of the good old days. The meal and the service was a more than satisfactory experience.
One looks forward to more dining experiences to sample their variety fare. This is a newer side to their quick tiffin items that continue to be as popular in the original premises at Adyar.
I guess it is better to have less expectations of everything in life. One discovers (and in some cases, rediscovers) and enjoys everything that much more. That's the trick to being constantly amazed :-)
*podis - spiced powders
**prasadam - 1st offering of food to the Divine, making it auspicious

Grand Sweets at Spurtank Road is customer friendly to those self driven car owners. There is ample space for parking and one needn't have to worry about the car having to be parked on the road with the apprehension of being shackled by the effervescent cops! One has to try the various savouries and each item tastes 'mom-made'!
One sweet i recommend strongly is the BOMBAY KAJA which is made of maida and the strip is rolled into a ribbon-like roll and it has the right amount of 'sweet' to it, unlike our mysorepak!
Tiffin time at evenings are a delight- just like the neighbouring SHREE MITHAI, there one could have hot polis and other items. SHOULD VISIT AND ENJOY!
This place has got the most awesome filter coffee that the city can offer. Since its primarily a sweet and side-eats shop, not much attention is given to the dine in section. Must try dishes here are : Ras Malai, Podi Dosa and Aloo Chaat.

Value for money shop. Sweets are tasty.
You can make payments by scanning QR code through Google Pay/ Bhim or any other wallet App.
Friendly Staff.
Only issue is washbasin is in outside the restaurant.
Ample parking space.
Great restaurant.
Excellent food quality.
Traditional sweets and savories, along with modern designer sweets.
A must visit for overseas residents who love South Indian preparations.
Also a good place for a quick bite.
Most locations I have been have good parking space.
All the sweets & snacks are delicious & tasty & yummy. Plus their service is good. A good relationship with the customers is great...
Visted this place for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Wasn't crowded. AC was ON. Food was served quick. The pricing for breakfast was pretty nominal and taste was good. This place however lacks maintenance. There were cobwebs on the roof. The glass walls were dirty and stained. The wash on the outside was dirty and stained. I got a feel that the place was not doing enough business and the management was not interested to keep the place running.
Good ambience, quality food, good service, reasonable price.
This brand is known for high quality sweets and snacks. The murukku and thattai are excellent and so are the different thokkus like kothamalli thokku. I also like the podis- paruppu podi, karuveppilai podi etc.
The jangiri is more like jalebi so I didn't buy it. Other sweets are good.
The store is the same and hasn't been modernised for years. There are tables where you can sit and eat or have coffee.
Service is good.
