What a lovely ambience. The interiors were made up beautifully and makes one feel to spend more time in there. The food is a whole different story. Tried their Chicken tikka khakra, and Achari Chicken Tikka - The chicken was well cooked, juicy and tender and marinated very well. Prawn Balchao stuffed in Calamari on bed of Lapsi- very nice combination with lapsi (Samba wheat rava). Their soup, mutton barley shorba, again a recipe with the tradition and healthy mix. All food were of healthy traditional combinations. Overall, we loved it and prefer to go again.. Special mention - Kids will love the place with lots of board games, kaleidoscope, etc. And the service staff were well trained and friendly...

Desi Di, has my heart.
Visited this place about a month ago and couldn't have found a better restaurant that served vegetarian as good as @desidichennai !
Right from their ambience, which is a fusion of contemporary, funky and desi to their food which is a fusion of the regular indian dishes with a twist, they are doing a fantastic job 😄.

I've been smitten, talking about their food makes me drool even now.
We tried their tandoori gobi, bharwani paneer, mushroom chilly pepper fry, spicy veg Kolhapuri, desi Di veg malai curry, peas pulao, homestyle bhindi fry, kulchas, lassi,
Everything tasted amazing and the dessert was gulab jamun cheese, which was simply the best 😍
I guess they have non veg options too, but take it from me, this place is definitely amazing! 😍♥️

The place is easy to spot and vibrant. The ambience is good. There are separate areas, one with lively and quirky interiors and another with dim lighting and romantic ambience. The staff is friendly. The menu is not very large. However you will have decent choices.
I ordered a multi saag paneer. The taste was pretty descent. The balti chicken was rather tasty. The naan was crispy yet soft. The perfect amount of chewy.
Then i had the green apple jalebi. The jalebi has a sweet yet tangy taste. It was served with ice cream and rabdi.
The quantity of the food was more than enough for one person.

This place was in my bucket list since last weekend. Wr finally booked the deal via Dineout and headed here this Saturday evening. Desi Di is an old house transformed into a nice cozy restaurant. I liked the decor especially the lights. The eyes in my toddler showed that she enjoyed the experience as well.

Coming to the food. We had ordered Mutton Seekh kebab and Tawa Fish wrapped in banana leaf.

Both the starters were excellent. Along with the Seekh kebab they had provided some.naan as well. I guess this was more to reduce the spice quotient.
For main-course, we we're suggested to have the balti chicken. A tomato based chicken gravy with Onions. It was ok had a lot of onions in it. But, the Garlic Naan was piping hot and it I tell you it made up for the not so great Balti Chicken. I would give 5 starts if I am rating only the Garlic Naan. In a few restaurants you come across the Naan being cold by the time it reaches your table. But, the folks at Desi Di did not make that mistake. Overall, a great evening which some good food.

You could go there once and again and again and again 😁. The food was divine, the service efficient and friendly. Boiled and fried Colocasia set the tone for the meal. It melted in the mouth and the crew noticing this gave us an extra serving.

Okra curry made as one would at home and cottage cheese in tomato gravy served with Indian wheat breads were served quickly and hot off the tandoor.

We must have set a record polishing off the dishes. That’s testament to a truly amazing gastronomic experience.

Thank you to Gokul, Satya and Margareth. You were absolutely fantastic and have a repeat customer in me.

Went back again within 24 hours to the same fantastic food, courteous service and a great gastronomic experience. Thanks again Gokul, Satya and Margareth. You are awesome.

Parking isn’t an issue.

One of the restaurants in my bookmark list.. finally made a visit yay.. and i m really happy about the restaurant.
Ambiance of restaurant was nice and adequate spacing.. service was great, the waiters were kind and patient.
Food tastes extraordinary.. no wonder this place has got many good reviews.. gajar ka halwa samosa with candy floss was out of the world.. i loved it..

Tawa fried fish: well cooked soft and the masala was great and dip complimented the fish very well.

Balti chicken: the chicken pieces were small and soft in a thick tomato based gravy with onions.. the best part was unlike other restaurants there was no oil floating over the top of the gravy.

Dosa waffle: was okay. P.s not a good fan of dosas

Gajar ka halwa samosa with candy floss: nailed it.. perfct dessert.. the candy floss jus melted in mouth iin few seconds.. the samosa was great. The sweetness level was perfect.. my personal fav!

Peach sulaimani: peach flavoured black tea was good..

Will definetly recommend this place and surely visit again.. also you can get a discount with zomato gold!!

Everytime you don't need chatpata ,spicy , authentic cuisine or lavish food spread , instead of that sometimes one only needs simple food , ghar ka khana like dal roti , or dal chawal only . So on Sunday after relaxing for the whole day neither wanted to cook anything nor wanted to have heavy meal so to have only dal roti we headed to Desi di in poes gardens . Heard a lot about this restaurant from friends so decided to try it once. Without paying much attention to the menu card we straight away ordered for tandoori parantha with dal makhani . But our friends ordered masala papad , tawa paneer , dal tadka with garlic naan and phulka . Masala papad was nice , crunchy and different than masala papad served in other restaurants . It has sweet tamarind and tangy green chutneys with onion and tomato masala topped with grated paneer . I generally avoid ordering paneer dish in every restaurant because if Paneer is not soft or fresh it spoils the whole dish . But at this place paneer was very soft and tasty . Here I actually got wheat parantha - hot , fresh and crispy unlike other places where people use maida than wheat flour for paranthas. Dal was equally good but I didn't like their way of serving dal in small cookers -- yes you read it right , small pressure cooker . Who serves dal in cookers ??? first it doesn't look good and then it is very difficult to serve in small bowls from cooker . Ambience and service was good accompanied by old Hindi songs . To experience the whole menu - will visit this place again .

G llWe have been to this place twice . Located on a pleasant residential road . Google map should lead you there without an issue . This place is one of the finest restaurants ever have been . The food tastes excellent here . Started off with pumpkin 🥣 which tasted good , we have tried several fish varieties in their chinna plates. The banana leaf wrapped fish , tawa fried king fish . One best part is the chef 👩‍🍳 himself came down to suggest a better alternate options which tasted excellent . If you are a fish lover a must visit place . Desi music all time on tv very less crowd . The ambience is calm and decent . Please try this once and experience it yourself . Happy eating !!!

What I loved about Desi Di - Everything.😅

Starting from the door till the seating, there's great care and effort put to make the whole ambience look Indian.

What impressed me was the food and more importantly the food presentation. Rice is served in an wooden bowl and curry in a pressure cooker.

Zomato Gold - Everything on the menu is covered by Gold 😋.

The ambiance is very nicely done. The food was tasty and pocket friendly. We were there for dinner and only negative thing was that they have only 2 kinds of biriyani and both were not available. They only had turkey biriyani which we didn't want to try.

We visited the place as a large group and there was ample seating space and exclusivity. The food was a reminder of home and to add an extra rouch it was served in small pressure cookers.

We were also given the choice to customise any dish according to our will, which was thoughtful. Overall, it is a must visit place if you are in a mood of Indian cuisine ❤

In a restaurant where the food on your table is tasty but the food on the other table looks yummier, means only one thing. You will visit the place again.

I wish Desi Di was more baby friendly with at least a baby chair, then I would have rated it 5 instead of 4.

The set-up and decor is quirky, an amalgamation of various cultural influences. Just like its fusion food. The seating is comfortable. The place looks clean and the staff seemed warm and friendly.

Must try: Green Apple Jalebi with Rabdi and ice cream. That's what a good dessert should be. Combination of contrasting textures, flavours and temperatures. Vada Bao tasted very nice. Spicy. Vada was cooked well. Took me back to streets of Mumbai.

Recommended : Indian flatbreads in all forms were cooked well. Multi saag paneer had authentic flavors.

Passable: tawa fish and mutton boti plate. Both were good but no where near to the original flavors. Like mutton boti with paratha in Lucknow for example

Avoid : Soups. They had two on menu. Both were more like sambhar and rasam. And not really soups.

Where - Desi Di , Poes Garden

You have desi food , and Then you have Desi di’s food.

Located at Poes Garden , this place is hard to miss with it’s dhinchak captions and qwerky exteriors.

Having been there a few times before , it was always a non vegetarian fare. Being the month of poratasi and definitely struggling to keep up with the pact - we chose Desi Di for dinner. So glad we did !

Our order included

Drumstick and corn soup - A well blended soup which had a distinct flavour of the drumstick and the starchy essence of the corn. A moderately thick soup , which was a good start to the meal.

Paneer Khakra - This has to be one of their signatures. Loved their chicken tikka Khakra before and this one was fresh , super light and so good!

Arbi Pakoda - Wedges of Arbi aka Colocasia, deep fried to the T ! Stunner with its simple yet beautiful crunch.

Dosa Waffle - A creation of Chef Aaron which manages to surprise you with its fluffy , yet light texture. Has the charm to be eaten just by itself.

Paneer Balti - A spicy gravy which has succulent pieces of paneer. Can’t go wrong with this. We paired it with the Dosa waffle and it was super yum!

Desserts - This shall always be the focus for me 😂

Gulab jamun cheesecake - Yet again a signature of Chef Aaron , this was devoured by the cheesecake fans at the table. I love gulab jamuns and I conveniently chose to have just that. Happiness All the way !

Green apple jalebi with rabri, butterscotch ice cream- This was a first for me , green apple deep fried in a batter and doused with organic honey. Served with a super luscious Rabri and Butterscotch ice cream. This one has my heart ❤️

Service - Super Quick

Ambience - Pakka Desi by all means , they have some noteworthy qwerky artwork all
Over.

Food - Wouldn’t be surprised if I’d keep going back to this place, Just for how simple yet sinfully delicious their food is.

Pricing - Costed us about 1600₹ for 3. Which is VFM given the quality , flavours and the entire experience put together.

Spotted this on my way back home and just had to go in! Totally judged this place by its decor and was not disappointed at all!
We had the bhutta kebab (recommended by the waiting staff) and the millet khichdi (I'm low key obsessed with it). For dessert, we had the gulab jamun cheesecake, which was not the greatest. I don't think it was a baked cheesecake, and the flavour didn't sit quite right!
But other than that, A+ experience!

Desi Di is well known as they had another branch earlier which has now moved to Alwarpet!

They have tried their best to replicate the same ambience as their previous outlet and they've done an amazing job at that. Although this outlet has a nice outer view and it's really well done.

Coming to the food, my favorite here has always been Lemon Barley Sikanji and Hibiscus Ice Tea. Refreshing and lights up your mood instantly.

For starters, I opted for the bhutta Kebab, and Vada Bao. Being a golden corn lover, I loved the bhutta Kebab until I had the Vada bao. Vada Bao is the best thing on their menu until date. Perfectly blend of Bambaiya Vada Pav and Chinese Bao!

For the main course, I tried their dosa Waffles, balti Paneer and naan. Dosa Waffles were certainly unique. Balti Paneer was not what I'd prefer because I like less vegetables and more paneer but this had good amount of vegetables cooked along with the paneer. Although it did taste good.

For desserts, I'd always go back to my classic gulab Jamun Cheesecake and trust me, it's the best dessert ever. Perfectly baked with tiny pieces of gulab Jamun.

Service is really good and there's ample parking too. Pricing is slightly high but you won't regret it.

Nice ambience, courteous and attentive staff, good tasting food and great location.  This is a good restaurant to spend your bucks on.  We ordered the khakhra panneer burji, vada bao, waffle dosa, peas pulao, butter naan, malai subzi, saag panneer, cheesecake gulab jamun, green apple jalebi.

The overall quality was superlative and definitely worth writing home about several times.  The vada bao is to die for.  The peas pulao is a simple dish, but very well made.  The waffle dosa needs something more - like a tamarind chutney or a sambar-like concoction or even a thick gravy - as a dip to round it off.

But all in all, an excellent eating experience.  You should go.  Several times. :-)

I am so glad that this place opened up with a fresh, new look; revamped menu Iand some great food. The ambience is so relaxing and I really loved the decor right from the quirky art to the gramophone to the pots!

We ordered for Mutton Boti Plate, Tawa Fried King Fish, Bhutta Kebabs, Tawa Fried Prawns, Naan, Vegetable Malai Curry and Green Apple Jalebi.

The Boti plate came with some fresh baby Naan and a delicious turnip dip. The meat was well-cooked and tasted great. It was a wholesome dish.

The Tawa Fried King Fish is surely a favourite here. Two pieces of beautiful pan-fried fish!

The Bhutta Kebabs had two variants - the corn on the cob and a nice patty. Loved the patty better.

I felt the Tawa Fried Prawns could be worked on a bit more as it felt quite watery.

The Malai Curry came with a side of cabbage and it tasted great with Naan.

The Green Apple Jalebi was surely the showstopper with its tantalising flavour and smell. It came with a side of Vanilla Ice cream and Rabri. A great combination indeed. I never knew apples could taste this good until then.

Also, I loved how the dishes were plated, especially on a banana leaf. There is nothing like eating on it, so fresh and healthy.

Known for their Desi style food this place has my heart since they had opened in Aynavaram. Been to their earlier location almost 10 times and wasn't disappointed.

Almost 8 months before just got to see this place opening up in posh street of Poes garden when we were having a plan to try Ente keralam food. And we all left the plan of trying the one and entered this beautiful place.

Their pretty decors reminded of old memories, same pretty and elegant decors shifted to this new place. But was disappointed seeing the menu, since few gold dishes missed out in new.

Anyway we geared up to try their, tawa fish which was vanjaram, tandoori non veg platter, mutton ghost biriyani, naan, phulka with kashmiri mutton roganjosh. Every food we tried were good but missed out their desi twist in each served. Then we opted for desserts like rasmalai, gulab jamun cheesecake and gajar halwa ka samosa. The cheesecake wasnt like earlier which pissed me of a bit. But gajar ka halwa was perfect. But my overall experience was a bt drop at that time. Reason behind it is the Chef Aaron was missing in the crowd.

Few months later heard the news that Chef Aaron is back to bring the desi twist to the Desi di food.

Hearing this we went for a day and tried their food. Okay lets be elaborate this time, since i loved them:

Lychee jamuna seasonal drink: This is a season drink introduced by them with no sugar or artificial flavours. Pure extract of Lychee and jamuna mixed in a proper portion giving unique taste to the drink.

Murungakkai sweet corn soup: felt the murungakkai overtook the taste of sweet corn. But wasn't bad enough.

Naattukozhi afghani tandoori: This one is my favorite, its naattukozhi or country chicken well marinated with masala. The chicken was so tender so The chicken was actually soft. Loved them.

Chicken kebab on sugarcane stick with gongura salsa dip: Chicken kebab hear it again its well minced chicken rolled and grilled over a sugar cane sticks. Bite of mild spiced green chilly chicken with sweet sugarcane. Sides of Gongura based manathakkali keerai salad was yummy. Recommended max.

Mutton boti plate: its not boti, it was a typical red chilly tossed and well marinated cubes of mutton pieces.

Nethili fry: fresh nethili fish fried like a finger fish served with mayo.

Vada bao: Vada stuffed with aloo masala served with bao and green chilli. Loved them.

Tawa fried king fish: Fresh king fish fried in tawa. The slice of fish was so thin since it was marinated with a mild spiced masala squeezed with lemon juice.

Bhutta kebab: corn kebabs and well marinated corn, onions, potato, curry leaves, ginger, garlic and ground nut masala made into a cutlet like dish.

Pepper chicken masala: the name says it all, pepper was a more in it which went well with the dosa waffle.

Balti paneer: a typical tangy paneer masala which went so good with roti and naan.

Desi prawn malai curry: loved this one to the core, well cooked and spiced, mild sweet prawn masala which was yummilicious with rice. Licked them almost and so was the love towards this. Recommended max.

Dosa waffle: perfectly made dosa batter made into a proper waffle with a pinch of ghee. Recommended.

Butter/Roti/Naan: Nothing distinguishable and was the same as it must be.

Green apple jalebi with rabri: being a fan of green apple fryuit and a lover of desserts, this one didnt impress me much, but wasnt bad enough too. My taste buds was out of this food is the reason, but my fellow friends loved them.

Gulab jamun cheesecake: I wanted to leave this message here "Almost went thrice there jsut to have it, and i didn't get only one every time i visited"

Sulaimani peach tea: Tea was perfect, sweet taste was inculcated with the pure peach extract

Adraki chai: ginger tea is all about this.

The below dishes were tried along with the above ones in the next visit made to this place:

Banana leaves fried fish: it is a typical banana leaves covered and tossed fish, the green curry masala was soo good.

Paneer tikka: tikka masala was over mixed over the paneer which made it bit hard for me. May be I would have had it cold too.

Bharwani paneer: perfect soft and delicious paneer had in this place. we repeated the order almost twice.

Naattukozhi Biriyani: its a mild spicy kind of naattukozhi biriyani, which was dry for me and didnt impress me much. Bteer luck next time. Felt the juicy taste of chicken was missed out in it.

Overall it was a great experience about this place and nothing like taste, service, food, quality didn't miss out in my many visits to this place. And am sure they bring in more food to make me crave for this place again. A must try family kind of restaurant.

Possibly the only place i've loved for a long time for their North Indian iterations even after changing their location. Having been here thrice before this latest visit... they still were high up the ladder, but off late didn't meet up to my past good experiences.
But am going to give them the benefit of a one-off liability and hopefully my GEM returns to its shining glory

What we had,
Let's start with starters,..small plates at first
- Khakra Paneer Bhurji ⭐⭐⭐½
A pappad kind thin cracker, topped of with onions, tomatoes, paneer and and some gourd! A nice crunchy starter with a nice little dallop of dip in the middle. Certainly a good one to start up the appetite

- Khakra Chicken Tikka ⭐⭐⭐½
The same iteration just like the previous but the non-veg version, with chicken pieces topped off!

- Vada Bao⭐⭐⭐⭐½
This is my favourite of them all starters, yes it's a fusion between vadapav and a crowd favourite bao. It's as authentic as it can get in the vadapav section but the bao is made of a wheat based not maida which is a huge welcome move. The chilli on top made me fall even more.

Moving on to large plates,
- Mutton Boti Plate ⭐⭐⭐¾
First of all the presentation it did invite me a lot, the meat on the skewers were actually cooked well and the masala and the meat go well hand in hand. But the turnip puree is kind of a hit or a miss.. mine would be a yes but not everyone would enjoy because would be expecting a mayo kind texture and taste which it certainly not.

- Tawa Fried King Fish ⭐⭐⭐
As much as appealing as it looks, the fish didn't not have any sort of masala infiltration or neither did it have character per sé. The fish used though was a CHAPAL kind I heard which is a local variant and I applaud them for making use of it.

- Tawa Fried Prawns ⭐⭐
Ok first let me tell you, the masala which it was in is a bomb and its something I would fall for anyday but this very dish had a disaster when it came to the prawn, it was on the verge of being foul and took away everything for what could have been a winner.

Main Course it is,
- Balti Chicken ⭐⭐⭐
Probably the safe bet option when it comes to ordering a gravy, a tomato base with onion and bell peppers. The meat was also good, nothing great but yes would prefer this dish if and whether I wouldn't was experiment much.

- Balti Paneer ⭐⭐⭐½
Exactly the same base as above with the panner being the subsidary. Safe bet, but here the panner was actually good hence the extra sway towards this.

- Desi Prawn Malai Curry ⭐⭐
Not the best day to try prawn, again a disappointment but as according to the curry and the masala yes they did work well

- Pepper Chicken Masala ⭐⭐⭐½

All of the above gravies were either had with naan or a waffle dosa (not a big fan)

And now for desserts,
- Gulab Jamun Cheesecake⭐⭐⭐⭐½
You have all seen or heard enough about this, but let me saw it again. This is by far THE BEST gulab jamun cheesecake i've had both picturesque and taste wise ♥️

- Green Apple Jalebi with Rabdi ⭐⭐⭐⭐¾
But this guy came out of syllabus, a slice of green apple deep fried and then dunk in a sugar syrup just like jalebi, so imagine the crunchy outer layer breaks only to give way a to an even crunchier. And to top it of... it has rabdi for a dip 🤤

With them promoting local catches and seasonal related dishes, am very much impressed for their step towards this. And all the dips that are accompanied along with is made in house and has a fresh feel to it which again is a much appreciated move.

Parking isn't a problem neither is finding the location as well. But when it comes to service they need to up the game. Overall its a visit worthy, multiple visits from here on is going to be a gamble though.

Food:⭐️⭐️⭐️
Khakra Paneer Burji : Chrunchy Methi Kahakra topped with soft Paneer crumbs with finely chopped veggies and a dollop of Mint chutney served with Ridge Gourd dip. A light starter that preps you up for the huge feast ahead😜

Kakhra Chicken Tikka : Quite a refreshing starter with Smoked Chicken Tikka chunks, Crunchy well seasoned Onions and Mint chutney topped on the Healthy Khakra was lipsmackingly good😋

Mutton Boti Plate : Tender cut of meat cubes marinated in an Indianised Masala that goes really well with the Turnip Puree.

Tawa Fried Chappal Fish : A local fish variety that was well marinated and the meat was so tender and flavourful. I was pretty sceptical on trying a new variety of fish but the way it was cooked, that masala on the top and the bright red colour just swept me of my feet. Definitely would recommend this dish😍❤️

Tawa Fried Prawns : Peppery Prawns with the right amount of spice, felt the flavours were to raw and the meat in itself was not fresh almost felt like frozen meat.

Balti Chicken : Perfect Chicken Gravy that pairs well with the Waffle Dosa and Roti 😍❤️. Another must try here.

Pepper Chicken Masala : Another dish that didn’t quite set well for me since I felt the flavours were to raw again and did not blend well with the meat.

Gulab Jamun Cheesecake : The showstopper😍❤️ the best fusion dessert I’ve had so far. The Gulab Jamun was so soft it just melts in your mouth😇Indulge in a slice of the yummy smooth Cheesecake with small pieces of Gulab Jamun
hidden in it and you just can’t stop with one serving I say.

Green Apple Jalebi with Rabdi : Another Stellar dish💫🌟Thin slices of Green Apple batter fried and doused in a sugary syrup and the Rabdi is the perfect match to it. Not an overly sweet dessert and it surely is a crowd pleaser. Ending the lavish meal on a Sweet note😍❤️with this one😊

VFM: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
💰 Range : 1500 Approx for ✌️

Ps : Hatsoff to @chefcouts for bringing out the best of the local Indian Ingredients and curating such an amazing spread. This is what I would call a true Indian fusion cuisine. Definitely a must try place for all those who would love to taste the true authenticity of Indian Cuisine❤️😍

Thoroughly enjoyed a delicious meal at Desi Di! The menu has good old North Indian food (only very selective classics managed to get their names into the menu) and don’t be surprised to find few of them served with a twist! Beautiful interiors, carefully curated dishes, a menu that has the best of the best and a touch of Chef Aaron in the kitchen (this mastermind can never go wrong even with experiments)!

Here are some must order dishes from what I tried:

1. Tandoori prawns - tops my list! Juicy tiger prawns marinated in Indian masalas and grilled on a tandoor.

2. Chicken on sugarcane sticks - minced chicken mixed with spices, onions, chilies and coriander and grilled with a sugarcane stick (you can eat the sugarcane also!). This comes with a gongura and peanut salad that has its own punch!

3. Grilled fish in banana leaf - Fish marinated with mint, chilli, coriander and lemon is wrapped in a banana leaf and tawa fried. The first bite just hits you with the minty lemony flavours and then you get the taste of the fish. Absolutely enjoyed eating this!

4. Khakra chicken tikka - methi khakra topped with ridge gourd dip and chicken tikkas. Best combination ever.

5. Mutton biriyani - These guys have perfected the South Indian style mutton biryani (right amount of spices and tender mutton packed with flavours) with which is served with brinjal and country chicken curry and onion raitha.

6. Pepper chicken masala - I have never tasted a creamier pepper chicken masala. This went well with the biriyani. You can also order roti or rice. OR scoop it out of the bowl and eat it. Trust me this was soooo comforting and tasty.

The dal makhani, tandoori aloo, paneer tikka are some of the other dishes which were also my favourite!

Lovely customer service and homely food! Must visit!

My personal favorites are the Chicken tikka khakra and the railway mutton curry. However, the new additions are something one must try!

During my last visit, guy to try a number of dishes and loved them, here's the list:

•Chicken kebab on sugar cane stick served with gongura salad
•Mutton Boti plate
•Bhatta kebabs
•Tawa Fried fish : Chef had used an rare and new find of fish called the chappal fish, I found that unique. Texture the same as your regular vangeram and equally delicious!
•Chicken kebabs
•Prawn curry served with Dosa waffle, it was mind blowing.
•Green Apple malpua served with ice cream!

A meal for two can come up to 1000/- and worth every rupee!

This restaurant has started as initiative to bring in few variety and healthy dishes too. They have very different ambience and lighting. To talk about food they were just mouth watering. On my plate was tawa fish ,Chicken kebab on sugarcane sticks, Naatu khozhi afgani, Mutton sekh kebab and corn kebab. Handi paneer , chicken curry , waffle dosas , cheesecake gulab jamun and jalebi with rabdi 💓
Definitely do try the sugarcane chicken its a kebab with sugarcane stick it tasted both spicy and sweet 😍

Loved every bit from here.
The ambience, staff and food.
Talking about food let me specify about what I loved the most.
The complimentary lemon drink already made this place my fav.
Followed by starters (corn kebab and paneer khakra burji)
Before that, the drumstick soup(damn good)
Dosa waffle and Balti paneer, yummmmaaxx.
And lastly the dessert.
Hands down best Gulab jaamun Cheesecake I ever had.
Every bite was a pleasure. ❤️🤤

It is a family restaurant, but not for the pure veg restaurant preferred people. :(

Part 1: About the Restaurant

Desi Di is located in one of the posh localities in Chennai - POES Garden

It has ample parking facility for 2/4 wheelers.

Set up in silent location. This is away from city traffic.

The theme is attractive. It takes you back to the retro period.

Staffs were very helpful and friendly.

Interiors were done so beautifully and even minute details were taken care of.

Perfection is the apt name for the set up. Here are some of the clicks from the restaurant 👇

******************************************************

Part 2 - About the Food!!

I was here this noon with my other foodie pals. They were vegetarian & I preferred pure non-veg 😍

While they were busy tasting veggie food, I started belting non-veg food.

What were served?

I have given the list of food that we’re being served in the same order:

Litchi Jamun Juice
Paneer Burji Khakra
Butta Kebab(Corn)
Rawa Fish
Mutton Kebab with Turnip Purée & Naan
Veg Cutlet Chops(Beetroot)
Vada Bao(Aloo Bonda with Garlic Chutney with home made steam bun)
Sweet Corn & Drumstick Soup
Afghani Chicken(Nattu Kozhi)
Baltic Paneer
Multi Saath Paneer
Dosa Waffles
Multi Millet Khichdi
Green Apple Jalebi
Gulab Jamun Cheese Cake &
Sulaimani Tea 🙏

Chef Aaron took lot of time & trouble to explain about the speciality of each food/dish. We were told that each were prepared based on the seasonal fruit/vegetable when it comes to veg dish and for non-veg, it is the forgotten or very rarely used items. For instance, the fish that was served isn’t the one, we get normally from the market. The produce is local but we tend to forget them owing to the preference given to other varieties. He is trying to overcome that.

Each and every dish was prepared with meticulous attention. There us a great variation in the ingredients and masala being used in fish, chicken, Mutton etc.,

I also had a chance to taste few of the veggie fish and trust me, they tasted divine.

If you ask me as to which one is my favourite from the above, I have no words 😁

Try it!! You’ll surely be falling in love with it 👍 #DesiDi

If I'm glad one restaurant opened its doors again, it has got to be Desi Di! The quirky ambiance, ample parking space and an easily accessible location aren't their only plus.

Their food was what impressed me the last time around and it still is just as good. Dishes that include seasonal favourites and best of locally sourced ingredients is something that every restaurant should work on, and it's so nice to see Chef Aaron do such impressive work. My favourites at Desi Di

Murangai Corn Soup - comfort food for your soul.
Corn Tikki - a simple dish that celebrates corn, and my personal favourite from the new menu.
Vada Bao & Masala Khakra - MUST TRY! The OGs from their old menu that will always have my heart. Such well thought delectable dishes.
Balti Paneer - A fuss-free pillowy paneer mains that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Finish off with their Gulab Jamun Cheesecake if you're an eggetarian, if not, don't worry their gajar ka halwa samosa will solve all your cravings.

But finish your meal with a sulaimani, that was the perfect end for my meal at Desi Di.

A meal for two will come upto ₹800-₹1000.

Loved the fact that the restaurant focuses on locally available ingredients, It was a lovely lunch at Desi Di with the week's special local ingredient being corn. Litchi Jamun juice was my another favorite.  Balti paneer and multi saag were unique items we had and surprisingly the green saag was our hero of the day.  We are happy to replace our regular masala papad with the paneer bhurji khakra, very tempting to ask for an encore. Green apple jalebi with honey is a must try. Overall an unique food experience at Desi Di.

Desi di is finally back. For the unlucky ones like me who couldn't try the first outlet that was short-lived here's the game again. What I define as good food is one that keeps it simple yet elevate every discrete flavour from the raw ingredients. That's what desi di is all about. If I'd met Aaron when I started writing about food I may have saved a lot of time figuring this out.
Desi di is a predominantly Indian cuisine that's influenced from cooking styles and flavours from across the country that's locally made with what's available in Chennai market. I envy how they procure the best of the raw ingredients and don't shy away from boasting those either. Be it the phenomenal ridge guard chutney to top the paneer bhurj khakkra or the beetroot cutlet which I have made at home and eaten twice between when I had them at the restaurant and writing this review, Desi di is primarily focussed on bringing up the food culture by a notch.
Most places do this, but not to this extent of proclamation.
The table room is fairly big to seat about 40 odd diners. There's sufficient seating and private space for families if they may wish. The menu is fairly the same as the older desi di with a few additions. We were served a lichee jamun extract as a welcome drink, it had the goodness from the lichee and what I don't like from the jamun. If you have a diabetic friend do insist them to try. For starters, veg and meat variants were impartially handled. There's ample good stuff for the non meat eaters to try on. Their mughalai paneer, paneer khakkra, corn kebabs, are to die for. I personally find the chutneys to be a selling point here. A simple onion chilli chutney was pretty awesome with very subtle details that elevate such a primitive dish. Very minor things like the turnip puree, ridge guard chutney etc may blow your mind if you've had bad experience being force fed all these at home as kids(or adults). Their focus for the chutneys would be seasonal so there's more than one reason to visit them again. The main course for vegetarians was bread sided with an amazing melt in the mouth types paneer curry. I somehow found paneer to be a tad harder in the mughalai rolls. Waffle dosas were pretty unlikely of Aaron yet went fabulous with the korma. If you could be okay with a good dosa looking like a waffle it's easy to enjoy the dish. Dosa purists like myself are better off eating blindfolded. Their dal is good yet not the best I've had in the city. If you ever happen to go here do not get out without trying the gulab jamun cheese cake. The topping with rose petals adds so much richness to an as such wonderful cheesecake.
They've a really good sulaimani with a twist of fruity mix that may not suit a chai purist's palate. Yet it's not worth missing this masterpiece.
Overall, this is a must visit place that's newly opened doors. They're located in Poes garden and location on maps is spot on. If you love food i highly recommend having a word with Aaron to share his mindful.

One place I regret not visiting in the last few years was Desi Di in its earlier avatar at Aynavaram. All my friends used to rave so much about a few specific dishes (pot biriyani, gulab jamun cheesecake, etc) and it only made me feel worse - purely because I cant find a second place that dishes out these things or if they do - of a good standard.

That said, I resisted visiting them when they launched in Alwarpet because I knew the chef who created these delicacies was no longer associates with them (another sign was empty parking every time I passed by). Who knew things were to change and Aaron was to return :)

Ok now that I have introduced the star and what triggered my visit, let me talk a bit about my experience.

Ambience
Quirky, fun and vibrant interiors. I liked the decor around their large tables in the main dining area very specifically.

Pricing
For Alwarpet/Poes Garden - I would consider it reasonable for sure.

Service
Not the fastest, but I wouldnt complain.

Food
There were some dishes which pleasantly surprised me and some others which blew my mind. But also there were a few which did not work for me; well thats the thing about fusion food I suppose.

The high fives
- Vada Bao - I could never imagine vada pao could be given a twist with bao buns; loved it and also the freshness of the buns.

- Mutton Boti - not the spare parts boti you get in south, but juicy mutton kebabs served with naan.

- Sulaimani tea - the last dish I expected to impress at this restaurant, but one that would motivate me the most to revisit.

The other winners
- chicken cutlet bao: meaty and yummy! Only reason it find its place here and not on the list above is because of how awesome the vada bao was.

- gulab jamun cheesecake: I am a big cheesecake fan and a rebel for the concept of gulabjamun in cheesecakes. But the pleasant infusion of rose flavouring did the trick for me with this one.

What could have been better
- Pepper chicken curry and waffle dosa
The curry seemed lost between states for me. It had hints of south indian spices in a thick north Indian gravy.

- garlic naan : was too dry for me. Maybe I should have requested for butter garlic naan.

On a summary note, minus a few dishes that did not work it was mostly a positive experience for me. I would love to revisit and possibly try the pot biriyani next time.

For an Indian restaurant, it is quite rare to find a kitchen that serves dishes with native ingredients. Been a regular at the Desi Di at ICF an year back, it was quite a shocker that they had to shut down due to issues with location. Even when they reopened, it wasn't up to the mark. It was quite obvious that the brand needed it's Chef the most. Now with new 2.0 menu, Aaron makes a timely comeback.

Its in poes garden, opposite to Ente Keralam. It has parking outside premises.

The menu is the proof that you don't need ingredients imported from elsewhere to serve a tasty dish. The Ambiance is quirky as usual by using the furniture from the old place.

Started with welcome drink - jamun drink and all time favorite lemon barley shikanji. Shikanji is refreshing as usual.

The mutton barley shorba was quite good - the broth was neither watery nor thick. The starters were presented well - Bhutta kebab, paneer burji khakhra were my favorites. The rigded gourd dip is not something you get anywhere. The chicken kebab on sugarcane stick with gongura salad was spot-on, tastes best when you chew the cane in the end. The boti kebab skewers with naan and turnip sauce was quite new and sauce makes a good twist.

Dosa waffles are the show stealers here. The vada bao and chicken cutlet baos are must try here. The maincourses are served in the most quirky manner. The Indian breads with Dal makhni, Dum aloo and balti chicken was so good.

The dessert are cherry on top with signature dishes like gulab jamun cheesecake and green apple jalebi with rabdi. Choosing best among both was the most difficult task that day. Finally, finished the meal with sulaimaani peach tea which was the best hot drink I had after long time.

Service is spot on and prices are reasonable even without using your Z-Gold here!

What would you choose between dosa and waffle if you had a choice?
Well, what happens when you don’t have to sacrifice anyone!! I love savoury waffles and an Indianised one, why not!
Presenting the Dosa Waffle with Desi Prawn Malai Curry by Chef Aaron Couts at Desi Di, which is now at Poes Garden. This dish was good.
The chef’s name sounds like déjà vu? Well, it’s not a throwback piece... this is from the new menu by Chef Couts who is back in Chennai & is currently making sure that the menu he had once curated tastes as good as it should at Desi Di. Apart from the previous hits, he has added a few new dishes too. Using local produce, interesting Indian flavours and some healthy options too.
We were invited to try his creations.
We tried this new drink Litchi Jamun, which is currently available as jamun is in season. Fresh fruits used here and no artificial flavours at all. A refreshing and fruity start to our lunch. I love the Lemon- Barley Shikanji and so didn’t miss it. We left the day’s menu to Chef and h did a great job.
Bhutta kebab is my new favourite. Well, I wouldn’t have tried veg appetiser, so thanks to him, I did and so happy about it. Tawa fried Sweet corn kebab was packed with flavours and mini corn on cobs rubbed with chaat masala were too good. A cucumber yoghurt salad was the side for this. Bringing the local touch, there was Nattu Kozhi Pepper Chicken, which is Country chicken Tamil Nadu style. We were served full throttle appetisers. The banana leaf wrapped fish was another hot and tasty dish.
We also had my Desi Di favourite Chicken kebab on sugarcane sticks with Gongura Salad. Every element on the plate was yummy. The Mutton Boti Plate, which is Mutton skewers with baby naan and turnip puree was perfectly cooked and spiced.
Kept it simple for mains with the dosa waffle and prawn curry as mentioned above. For desserts we went for Green Apple Jalebi with rabdi. This was indeed very nice.

Well, so happy that Chef Couts is back refining his menu here. There are so many more nice dishes on the focussed menu. Do try and say hello to the team.

Desi Di, has opened in Poes Garden, Alwarpet. The new menu includes lip smacking dishes made with fresh, hand picked produce which is very interesting.
Coming to the location, it is located in a place with easy access and also has car parking.
The ambience is quirky with traditional and modern touches. I’m a fan for the decor!
Coming to the main aspect, the food.
Overall, loved the presentation, loved the taste and loved the fresh feel that was present in every single dish in the menu!! I’m gonna go ahead and mention my favourite ones-

1. Veg cutlet chops with Beetroot- Personally I’m not a fan of Beetroot but this dish might have convinced me to try it more often! It tastes so good and has that fresh feel about it. Highly recommended!
2. Paneer Khakra Bhurji- The one thing I loved about Desi Di is their quirky food options. This sealed it for me!
3. Litchi Jamun drink- this unusual combination was a burst of flavours in the mouth, loved it so much.
4. Vada Bao with Maharashtrian Garlic chutney- hot steamed Baos with our Indian vada pav, interesting ain’t it? Must try!
5. Chef Aaron strives to innovate and create fusion dishes and he nailed it on point with the dosa waffle- interesting food choice for kids and adults for sure!
Other must try main course dishes include Balti paneer ( served in a cute little cooker), multi saag, Millet kichdi.

Coming to the favourite part, the desserts. Tried their Green Apple Jalebi and Gulab Jamun cheesecake. OH. MY. GOD. The green apple Jalebi is dipped in wild honey, the taste of the honey and the fresh green apples is fantastic.
Saving the best for the last, the cheesecake. MUST TRY! best cheesecake I’ve had in a while, that too with a desi twist.

Overall, wonderful food, great ambience and good service. Will recommend :D

Alas i cant Rate them more..

Chennai food Scene is not as active and filled with choices as other major cities in India..There are only a handful of restaurants here that people frequent too and almost next to none known for their chef...And amidst this Desi Di - Dinchak Food that opened in ICF in perambur was a revelation of kind with the Chef Aaron this was supposed to get a special place in chennaites hearts and so it did but before long due to reasons related to the club it had to close its doors..This made many foodies sad as it was turning out be a favorite for many people...But that was in the past as a few months earlier they opened back in alwarpet but this time without Chef Aaron and as expected it didnt have that X factor..

But now Chef Aaron has come back to reclaim his mantle and i cant be happier to try Desi Di during their soft launch phase...Located in Poes Gardens kasturi rangan 1 street opposite to Ente Keralam...The Exterior done with bright yellow work finished off with a look of a country side house is really good to look at and as soon as you enter you are greeted with a very similar Desi Di interior...Those potraits of ancient ladies in between the seating area..And one area with a big seating area for families that has a naturally lit dining area..

Service with Chef Aaron at the helm is really good..And with each dish the way he explains the food is something that speaks volume about his passion for food that you need to experience for yourself..

Given Below are the items we tried and my take on them..Though i wont match the way Chef Aaron explains them i will try to do justice to what i tried..

Lytchee Jamuna : They do have special seasonal drink and this one with lytchee and jamun mixed to perfection was really good and with sweetness slightly on the higher side it was perfect start to the meal..

Mutton Barley Shorba : This was spicy with a thick consistency with adequate pieces of mutton and also had a few barley in it..Overall the Shorba was really good in taste and something i could love a second helping off..

Bhutta Kebab(2 ways) : Corn Kebabs served in 2 ways where one was a delicate tikki which was really in taste and slightly on the spicier side whereas the other was corn on the cob cooked in spicy tandoori type marinade...A must try dish for sure..

Kolkatta Veg Chop : Small ball sized cutlets of beetroot and other veggies served with a peanut based dip this was decently good in taste..

Vada Bao : A In house speciality where the Bao are given an indian twist by making vada pao from the..The Vada is really good in taste with a crispy finish kept in a bao with spicy chili powder along with a chili for those who need some extra spice..The Bao is home made and its made pretty close to traditional pao..

Chicken Cutlet Bao : Same bao made with chicken cutlets instead of the regular vada..The Chicken Cutlet with minced chicken with a spicy touch to it is also really good in taste..The spiciness of the chili powder and chili was the added advantage that i liked..A must try item for sure..

Bengali Mughlai Paratha : Two variants of the same were served - Paneer and Chicken..rispy layer of a paratha filled with a spicy and yummy panner and chicken fillings..Served with a spicy dip that did wonders together..

Chicken Kebab on Sugarcane Sticks : A Special of a kind at the restaurant..This has a yummy minced chicken kebab similar to a sheek kebab cooked on a sugarcane stick and served over a bed of gongura salad and a yummy dip..The kebab was good and with slight sweetness from the sugarcane it was quite unique..The cooking on the stick actually had the taste of the kebab on the sugarcane..Must try..

Khakra Paneer Bhurji : Many places its available now but Desi Di was the first place to launch it in chennai..A crispy khakra topped with veggies and a yummy paneer bhurji..And in the middle is an yummy ridge dip..Another of a must try dish..

Mutton Boti Plate : A platter of kind consisting of boneless yummy mutton skewers served with baby naan and a turnip puree..Also was served a small helping of a spicy dip..This was one of the platters where you kind of get satisfaction of a kind...Completely worth it..Lipsmakingly good in taste..

Dips : These need a special mention here...Quite unique ones are served here like pumpkin and ridge guard which are really good in taste..I didnt expect to love these veggies to this extent..With around 5 dips at the moment and with a plan to change them every 3 months..

Breads : We got the traditional Butter naan which turned out to being one of the best in chennai with a perfect cooking and crispy finish..the Garlic naan though a bit a dry was really good in taste..And the Pudina Paratha was the best of the lot..Dosa Waffle was also served though it was not the fist try this was the better of the lot..With a spicy south indian side this one would be really good..

Gravies : Balti Paneer with generous amounts of paneer was a rich tomato based gravy which was really good in taste..The Dal Makhni was definitely on of the best i have tried in recent times..And the veg malai curry was decent in taste..The Pepper chicken masala with a north indian touch was a first of its kind and with chicken slightly undermarinated being the only issue...

Gulabjamun Cheese Cake : One of the specials of Chef Aaron and was one dish i was looking forward to try at Desi Di..And it did live upto my expectations..The moist cheese cake with a crispy base along with a few gulab jamuns that worked pretty well with each other..A must try dish once again..

Green Apple Jalebi with Rabdi : Slices of Green apple cooked in a jalebi batter with loads of sheera/sugar syrup added..Though named and tasting like jalebi these were more like sweet bajji in texture...Served with a helping of rabdi which was just too good..Both complimented each other very well..Also a small scoop of ice cream was served..

Sulemani Peach Tea : Sulemani is one of my favorite even when am not a tea person..And here with a slight hint of peach taste it was notch and a thing i would love to try again and again..

Had a lot of expectations on Chef Aaron and his comback at Desi Di and let me tell you that i was not disappointed a bit..He is and always be a favorite Chef for me in chennai with his passion speaking volumes through his food..Small minimalistic menu where each item is better than the next and dips are one of a kind in chennai..A wonderful laid back ambiance and wonderful service department are the added advantages..I was always keen on taking my family to Desi Di - dinchak food but living all the way in pallavaram travelling to perambur was too much to ask for..But the new location alwarper is a blessing in disguise and i could not have asked for more..The Best Comeback ever..Totally recommended in Chennai...

A 'Usual' in a unique way, you'll realize this once you hit this place.

It was so saddening when I got to know "Desi Di -Dhinchak Food" in Aynawaram was shutting down but was sure they will Come up again. And Yes they are back along with the same Chef Aaron Coutinho ! Stronger and Better, with some new exciting dishes! And They Nailed it on the location too! Yay!

Right from the Quirky decors, Dim yellow lights, and exciting Menu, This place lifts up the happy vibes. Also, the Paintings hung on the wall did catch my attention. Vintage Car with Jelabi Wheels, Desi lady with Coolers and Smartphone. That little detailing did entertain me.

Moving On to the food, we started with..

Litchi Jaamun Drink, Fresh and natural juice with no additives. Loved it. Stay tuned as they are bringing in an exciting blend of seasonal fruit juices to their menu.

For the starters we had,

Bhutta Kebab  | #inSeason Tawa Fish | Nattu kozhi Afghani Chicken | Chicken Kebab in Sugarcane sticks with Gongura salad | #inSeason Banaleaf wrapped Fish

Bhutta Kebab, Sweet Corn-based kebab served along with grilled kebabs and cucumber curd combination. For the first time, Got to try Chappal Fish which looks kinda weird and Cleaning is tougher compared to other fishes hence not many locals buy it, But Chef nailed it. Tried both the Tawa fried and Banana wrapped version of this fish which was filleted and cooked to perfection. Afghani Naatu Kozhi was a show-stealer for me. Never knew Nattu Kozhi could be this meaty and soft. Again, cooked to perfection. Chicken Kebabs on sugarcane sticks was another amazing dish. Minced Chicken meat wrapped on a sugarcane stick and served along with Gongura. The chef got this idea of Gongura and sugarcane combination when he found em both sold close to each other on a local market.

Moving on to the mains,

Dosa waffles | Balti Chicken | Desi Prawn malai curry | Butter Naan

I was surprised when the Chef said Dosa but in the form of Waffles. Never in my wildest imagination, I would have thought about this dish. Somewhat crispy around the edges and Soft corners made this a perfect kinda dosa I'd prefer. Went on so well with the Prawn Curry which was based creamy coconut milk-based with proper spices. Perfect combo. Balti Chicken curry was based on Tomato and spices served in a mini cute cooker. No much intense flavors. Just a usual good dish.

Never miss out on Desserts when you're here,

Gulab Jamun Cheese Cake ! Green Apple Jalebi

Gulab jamun Cheesecake, Oh yes! It's back! Smoother, Cheesier and Better than last time. It was a total divine indulging in the sweetness. The cheesecake with Gulab jamuns in it literally smoothly slips off the spoon while you scoop it. Don't miss on this one.

Green apple Jalebi, The sourness sweetness of green apple and Jelabi blended so well. Such a creative dessert I'd say. A lot of imagination put into reality. Also served along with Rabdi and Rose ice cream just for enhancement.

Overall, I really appreciate the efforts and imagination put on the dishes curated by the Chef. Also, most of the items are locally sourced and healthier compared to the usuals.

If you love quirky restaurants with vibrant pop art and delicious Indian food with a twist, head to Desi Di at Poes Garden

Desi Di is an Indian restaurant with amazing and great fusion which serves you twisted food hog spot to hang out with friends or family as it's the mix of taste and flavours.

The menu was carefully curated by Chef Aaron Coutinho who explained us how they serve food with shudh desi touch. He took lot of time to explain each and every dish to us.  He is not just creative but the seasonal and plan is focused on the chutneys, dip and slides. The taste of all dishes remains pretty unique.

The ambiance is cool and colorful.
The interiors also offer some nostalgia. There is an old hand-wound gramophone, the front portion of a Tata truck, amazing wall paintings, old Tiffin box, vintage tables and steel chairs.

Get ready for an explosive dose of flavours. We start off with

Litchi Jamun juice which tasted divine.

Paneer Burji Khakra was really amazing with the combination of onion, tomato and paneer.

Sweetcorn and drumstick soup
I totally loved the fresh sweetcorn combined with the goodness of drumsticks and drumstick leaves.

Dosa Waffle with Multi Swag Paneer was the best combination I ever had.

Also enjoyed naan with Balti Paneer which is a Pakistani dish.

Multi millet khichadi with kadi was really awesome with desi touch.
Dosa batter in Waffle maker is a simple and interesting idea .. All credits goes to the chef.

Butta Kebab is the treat to mouth with the combination of soft corn with cucumber sauce.

Healthy Veg Cutlet Chops made with beetroot.

Vada Bao is the version of the classic Bombay vada Pao made with steamed homemade bun.
Vada baav steamed is served with maharashtrian garlic chutney
. I totally enjoyed it.

Lemon Barley Shinkanji is made with boiled barley and lemon zest which is so refreshing.

Green apple jelabi ,Gulab Jamun and  Cheesecake was the desserts served to us   tastier than ever.

Last but not least Sulaimaan Tea is the best tea with the real essence.

Desi Di at Poes Garden is a fusion Restaurant .
Chef Aaron Coutinho (@chefcouts )from Mumbai is back with a new exclusive menu with very interesting twists.
Amazing decor. Comfortable and spacious colorful sofas and chairs for seating. Beautiful Wallpapers. The exuberant environment and surroundings give a posh and sophisticated feel.
(Sorry for the quality of pictures as the restaurant had dim lightings)
.
Dishes we had :
1)Murungai Sweet corn soup- Nutricious and delicious at the same time . This was the best soup I’ve had in recent times

2)Vada Bao- Show stealer 🔥 Aloo Bonda in their extremely soft homemade steamed bun & topped with Maharashtrian Garlic chutney ❤️ This is something which you’d never find anywhere else .

3)Bhutta Kebab- Tawa fried spicy corn kebab that went really well with cucumber n salsa Raitha 🍡 I liked the cutlet one more than corn on the cob version.

4)Balti Paneer - Tomato based gravy with bell pepper &onion . Rich flavors and right spices .

5)Butter Naan - Went very well with the Balti Paneer . Extremely soft and utterly butterly delicious 😋

6)Dosa Waffle-A new fusion dish of putting the dosa batter on waffle maker . Though it was to be eaten with North Indian gravies, I prefer having it with Chutneys / Masala.

7)Gulab Jamun Cheesecake with rose petals - Most Recommended Dessert 🍰 The Greek Cheesecake with Indian Gulab Jamun . Sugar rush max 😍

8)Green Apple Jalebi with Rabdi- The jalebi went well with strawberry ice cream and Rabri. can be appreciated by Green Apple lovers

9)Litchi Jamun ( Seasonal) - Blend of Litch & purple Jamun (Naaval Pazham) Again one of the unique never tried drink 🍹

10)Chai - Sulaimani peach tea - One of the best and Adraki Chai ☕️
.
.
One of the best places to have some good quality food & pictures cannot justify how excellent the food was 🔥
Visit today . You won’t be disappointed 😃

I'd head a lot about Desi Di. I'm generally suspicious of fusion food, but as an overall experience, there was a lot to like about this place.

Ambiance is pleasant- its a sort of pulpy modern Indian kitsch that was fresh 5 years ago, but has become quite common since. The large room with external glass walls is very nice though- best off trying to be seated there.

Service was quick when we visited, though at the lunch time we were there, there was really no crowd.

The food was terrific in parts. The appetizers had several highlights- the vada bao and scrambled paneer khakra in particular.
They have a small menu, and many of the dishes highlight seasonal produce- both of these themes that are globally very prominent right now. In keeping with that, the corn 2 ways and beetroot cutlets were very good, and the fact they are time limited makes them even more interesting.
Desserts for us were gulab jamun cheesecake which was sensational and a green apple jalebi which didn't really make entire sense to me.
Mains were the weakest link. Which isn't to say they were bad, but there wasn't anything very special here. Overshadowed by appetizers and desserts.

We were here as guests of the management but the menu seems quite reasonably priced.

Overall Conclusion: Anyone interested in trying new kinds of food out has to visit this place. Its terrific to see Chennai get restaurants that are as contemporary in concept as this one.

The Dhinchak vibes is back in action !

Recently visited this place with a bunch of my food reviewer friends, and I had a 5/5 experience.

Ambiance - Colorful and so full of energy and vibes ! The paintings and Cabana type seating is such a blissful sight.

Food - We were served with Litchi Jamuna as a refresher, I usually don't prefer Jamun due to it's after sensation, but with this combo worked well. This drink is seasonal*

Murungai soup followed, mildly spiced, packed with rich flavors and was extremely aromatic. Loved every slurp

Corn bhutta kebab (2 ways) - this was a simple and neat prep, loved the tikkis more !

Tawa fish (chappal) - The chef is very particular about celebrating rare ones, and one such find is chappal. The flavors we're perfect the texture soft and went really well with the chutney ! Recommended

Mutton Bhotti plate - This is such a stunner of a dish ! A brilliant way of adapting to the 'shawarma' culture. Naan skewered mutton kebabs and radish puree ! That radish puree was sheer brilliance. MUCH MUCH RECOMMENDED.

Nattukozhi Afghani - another dish I enjoyed thoroughly, chicken was so tender and the right amount of marination did wonders. A big kudos for promoting our regional nattukozhi !

Chicken kebab with sugarcane sticks and gongura salad - Their signature dish which people fall in love with instantly ! A must try once again. We all neglect salads for no joy, but when salads can be this yummy ! I mean you gotta try it and figure it for yourself ! RECOMMENDED

Banana leaf wrapped tawa fish - A coconut based marination, blended well. The fresh catch added up to the quality and taste ! Yumm

Dosa waffles and Prawn malai curry was match made in heaven ! It was drooliciously worthy ! The idea of Dosa batter in a waffle machine just blew my mind off ! Kudos again here ! MUST TRY

Gulab jamun cheesecake - the name speaks for itself ! So smooth and the spoon just slides by, a perfect dessert. So good ! Gone in seconds

Green apple jalebi with rabdi - the sugar syrup dripped jalebis (donut shaped) where filled with green apple. Rabdi was an added accompaniment ! Such a innovative dish, would recommend this for people who don't want their desserts to be extremely sweet !

Bottom line - Desi di is all set to rock their second innings in Chennai !

Desi Di! After their sudden close down of their old branch, this place has been missed by many people like crazy. But guess what #DesiDi is back with a bang with more newer and better fusion dishes curated carefully by Aaron Coutinho to satisfy the tastebuds of Namma Chennai.
Lets have a sneak peek into the newbies on the menu

STARTERS:
1. Bhutta Kebab - Ever heard of Corn kebabs? Well bhutta kebab is a sweet corn based tawa'd kebabs served with roasted sweet corns 🌽
2. Tawa Fried Kingfish - Aunthentic South Indian spice trial kingfish fillets, fried to perfection in tawa.
3. Banana Leaf wrapped Fish - delicate kingfish fillets marinated in green spices and wrapped around in banana leaf and cooked in tawa. Discover the earthy flavour of banana leaf which makes an amazing pair with the green spices and the soft crumbly fish.
4. Nattu kozhi Afghani Chicken - The country chicken takes a walk on a mild tandoori marinade, and cooked to utter tenderness and amazingly flavourful. Looking forward for an healthier dinning experience, this place is making an serious effort to replace the regular chicken with country chicken which are 100% natural.
5. Chicken Kebab in Sugarcane sticks with Gongura salad - Juicy chicken kebab skewered on juice sugarcane sticks, an spicy sweet meaty juicy experience and when the Gongura salad joined the party it was a lit ending. And who would have thought this fusion would be a bomb? But believe me #chefaaron came up with this fusion when he found Gongura near a sugarcane shop in a local marketplace in chennai. #StorybehindtheDish

MAIN COURSE :
6. Balti Chicken & Butter Naan - succulent chicken chunks cooked in a tomato based thick gravy flavoured with bell pepper and onions. Pairs best with naan' s and roti's.
7. Dosa waffles with desi Prawn malai curry - Dosa's made perfectly into waffles, had an texture and thickness as that of Kaal dosa and delicate prawns cooked in flavourful coconut based curry with a desi touch made an fusious desi experience #BestComboOftheNight

DESSERTS:
8. Gulab Jamun Cheesecake - This had been their signature dessert for a very long time as many of you know, but news for all the people is that, There has been slight alterations in the cheesecake. The jamun cheesecakes are now more smoothier and creamier and cheesier in taste with perfect combination of gulab jamun flavour. Not too much nor not too less. Just perfect ❤️😍
9. Green apple jelabis with rabadi - yeah you read that right, its high time green apples met the jelabis in #DesiDi, sour sweety sticky crunchy Texturous jelabis which tastes heavenly when dipped in in-house rabadi and had with bit of strawberry icecream. The taste tingles in the tastebuds even now when thinking about it. A must try dessert.
.
The ambience has been set as that of the same previous old Desi di, the service and hospitality are good.
Overall an perfect Indian restaurant with mind blowing and delicious fusion and Desi twisted food and a best and calm hog spot for a family dinner or to hang out with friends.

It's a newly opened restaurant with amazing North Indian food options on the menu. The ambience is beautiful and very pleasing. The food is very tasty with authentic North Indian taste. I had stuffed mushrooms as a starter which was well stuffed and appropriately cooked. The maim course had their chef special paneer and garlic naan. I would surely recommend this place to all the Indian food lovers.

Desi Di - Dhinchak Food was very fond in the Food Scene 1 & half years before. People didn't mind to travel to Ayanavaram because of their uniqueness in the food. Then the fate intervened due to some unknown reasons resulting in shutting down their operations.
Now, Desi Di is back in a more prime location of Poes Garden (opposite to Ente Keralam) and with Aaron Coutinho back in operations, the bell starts ringing. Monday Dinner, we 5 people settled in a quaint, calm ambience almost similar to the previous one, with the Chef welcoming us and we in turn welcomed him back to Chennai :)

LITCHI and JAMUN (Navaal Pazham) fruit juices to start, without any sugar syrups, the sour in latter fruit has been properly balanced with the former. Juices change with seasonal fruits. CORN BHUTTA KEBAB in 2 ways, liked the one similar to a cutlet form better. MUTTON BOTTI KEBAB, don't get wrong with the name here, it was a super succulent mutton pieces in a skewered dish. FISH made in Vanjaram style, this one was Chappal fish in Mumbai, mostly like a para fish in chennai. Good catch that one. AFGHANI NATTU KOZHI was so so tender done in a malai style Tandoor'ed with so much of heat, man this one's love. CHICKEN KEBAB COATED ON SUGARCANE STICKS with Gongura Salad is a trademark Chefcouts dish. Felt something was missing in PRAWN MASALA.

OFF to the main course, DOSA WAFFLE with PRAWN CURRY just blew our mind. Dosa batter in Waffle maker made so soft that it looks exactly like Waffle but when you chew it, you get to taste Dosa, just another dish for chef, but outstanding for us. Whenever I come back, I make sure I have this. BUTTER NAAN and BALTI CHICKEN was an average dish compared to others for me.

DESSERTS - GULAB JAMUN CHEESECAKE was more cheesier for me compared to the thick one I had last time, the base also could've been more thick, but all my friends loved it so much. GREEN APPLE inside JALEBI with RABDI and STRAWBERRY ICE CREAM - full credits for putting together this.

With just 1 week into this new menu, Desi Di has already proved their mettle. With Kadaknath Chicken (Black Chicken), Mutton Biriyani, Gajjar Ka Halwa Samosa and more new dishes coming, I think I have decided what I'm going to have next time I visit here.

Experiment & Explore with Desi Di. :)

I came to this restaurant with my cousins in town few days ago. Restaurant has a retro theme with a soothing ambience. Staff was attentive and friendly. Food tasted great with the softest chicken Tikka I ever had. It ended with perfect innovative desert gajar halwa samosa and gulab jamun cheese cake. I will recommend this restaurant to anyone I know. Definitely worth a visit.

We visited Desi di last week. I loved the interior design which was vibrant and colourful. The food was great. We started with lemon barley shikanji which was refreshing. The different types of Khakras were delicious. The chicken tikka and lamb sheek starters were succulent and tasty. The most signature dishes were the apple jalebi and Gulab jamun cheesecakes. It makes my mouth water even while writing the review. The food and decor is simply great. Keep it up.

How do you feel when your favourite restaurant is back in action? That too with the same chef and in the heart of the city!

Amazing right!!! I am floating on that feeling right now!

After 1 year of traveling and discovering new food, Aaron Coutinho is back to give us some more awesome food.
What I like about the new Desi Di is that the menu has become more healthy, with ingredients I love.

Jamun and litchee drink no Artificial colour/ flavours or sugar syrup all fresh ingredients!

The soup stole my heart "Drumsticks and corn soup" with that little burnt garlic was just yummy!
Please note - fresh drumsticks and fresh corn ( no tinned corn) how better could this be!

The "in season fish" wrapped in banana leaf has a green subtle masala that gets enhanced with the banana leaf flavour. The fish is again sourced from local fishermen and not from the commercial market.

The "Nattu Kozhi Afghani" was a surprise dish with soft chicken breast with the mildest of rich flavour! They use the breast piece that is soft for the kebab and the thigh piece that is a little hard for the gravy. But yeah it's amazing that they serve country chicken!

The Sheekh kebab was juicy soft and full of meat flavour. It was served with an in-house turnip dip.

"Thuthukudi Coromandel fish curry" was served with steamed rice and one poriyal/subji that is going to be a mandatory with all meals to ensure healthy eating!

And the finale was just #wow " Green apple jilebi" a guilt free dessert, why? Because it is dipped not in sugar but in "wild honey"

Things to look out for/ note - all dips are made in-house. They are a few exotic one's too!
Sugar is replaced with honey where ever possible.
Fish and meat is sourced locally.
Country chicken/Nattu Kozhi is used.
Juices/ mocktails are made with fresh fruits.
Millet and other healthy fruits and vegetables are used to a large extent.

Restaurant, menu make over along with chef makeover!

It was a lazy Saturday afternoon and me and a friend of mine ventured out on an impromptu food walk and this was our first stop. The place, which is beautifully styled, was practically empty when we went in. The ambience is extremely soothing with bright and vibrant colours and the warm lighting. The only thing which is probably missing from the ambience is the dhaba style seating. Since we were planning to start it simple, we decided to go for a chicken tikka khakra pappad and lassi to go with it. We decided to settle for the same since the other specials were not available. The pappad was nice and the pumpkin dip which was the house special was a really nice touch. The lassi had a slight taste of rabdi and was thick and creamy enough. Will have to be back here to try their specials from the Kebabs section and others.

Desi Di as the title suggests is as dinchak and kickass as it gets. They have re modelled the bhangra beat atmosphere right here in this new restaurant in Chennai and you find an influx of colours very reminiscent of the lifestyle of the Northern frontiers of India.

You have a siege of colour co-ordinated texture engulfing the place and makes the ambiance so appealing as well as alluring. I was here on a weekend afternoon to try something for lunch.

They have revamped the menu and the spread is an influx of fusion Indian cuisine that has been carefully curated by the chef knowing very well the Indian palette in mind. The butta ki tikka's not only have elements of artisanal craft inbuilt but also a smouldering subtle inherent essence layered all over to totally bowl you over. The khakra pannneer bhurji is loaded with all sorts of goodies galore topped by a creamy layer of ridge gourd dip to spice things up a further dot. Their bao is another masterpiece. Designed in the form of the evergreen vada pav, the masala inserted with the chillies go along really well. The panneer paratha starter is another total winner. Also the beetroot cutlets are kind of nice.

In the main course section, I tried some Indian bread with Kali Dal Makhni and Panneer Kurchan. The black dal served in a steel utensil kettle is absolutely awesome. You could feel the smoky essence and the taste was totally lip smacking. It's hard to find very good Dal Makhni which I usually crave for and the one served here was pretty top notch. The panneer gravy is also wonderfully done containing the right quotient of spices and masala.

Desi Di is also known for lip smacking mouth watering dessert delicacies. You should definitely savour in the gulab jamun cheese cake as well the green apple jalebis. The service was quick and they were willingly serving us and also offering useful suggestions. The price is standard for the quality in hand.

Overall it was a really pleasant experience. The vibrant ambiance steals the show with the taste of food adding to the proceedings. Definitely a place to savor sumptuous offerings.

Part 1: About the Restaurant Desi Di is located in one of the posh localities in Chennai - POES Garden It has ample parking facility for 2/4 wheelers. Set up in silent location. This is away from city traffic. The theme is attractive. It takes you back to the retro period. Staffs were very helpful and friendly. Interiors were done so beautifully and even minute details were taken care of. Perfection is the apt name for the set up. Here are some of the clicks from the restaurant 👇 ****************************************************** Part 2 - About the Food!! I was here this noon with my other foodie pals. They were vegetarian & I preferred pure non-veg 😍 While they were busy tasting veggie food, I started belting non-veg food. What were served? I have given the list of food that we’re being served in the same order: Litchi Jamun Juice Paneer Burji Khakra Butta Kebab(Corn) Rawa Fish Mutton Kebab with Turnip Purée & Naan Veg Cutlet Chops(Beetroot) Vada Bao(Aloo Bonda with Garlic Chutney with home made steam bun) Sweet Corn & Drumstick Soup Afghani Chicken(Nattu Kozhi) Baltic Paneer Multi Saath Paneer Dosa Waffles Multi Millet Khichdi Green Apple Jalebi Gulab Jamun Cheese Cake & Sulaimani Tea 🙏 Chef Aaron took lot of time & trouble to explain about the speciality of each food/dish. There us a great variation in the ingredients and masala being used in fish, chicken, Mutton etc., I also had a chance to taste few of the veggie fish and trust me, they tasted divine. If you ask me as to which one is my favourite from the above, I have no words 😁 Try it!! You’ll surely be falling in love with it 👍 #DesiDi

Main Course of Dal Makhani and Aloo Gobi Subji. Light on Masalas and stomach. Our accompaniments were Roti and Parathas, Came hot and soft. Service: Friendly staff and the chef came for our feedback on the food. A Goto place. Overall a Good restaurant that can cater any sort of folks. Rating : 4/5

5 Stars for the chic desi interiors, the passionate person who took our orders, the originality of the food, food presentation and quick service. Star of our meal was biriyani, it just pops out with good quality ghee flavour and super tender meat. Their paneer burji khakra and classic khakra is spot on and they come with yummy dips. Next time I'm planning to just visit to have adrak chai, khakra and gajjar ka halwa samosa. Feels super nice 😊 Wish they put up a nice lollipop board out for finding the spot easy. Also we were served on hurry when we were the only customer at 8.30 in the evening.
