The best chilli fritters aka mirchi bajji in Chennai. Be it plain or with onion and spicy powder the snacks from the neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh are served steaming hot.

It’s street food at its best. Being deep fried and eaten hot you minimise any chance of Delhi belly. So many people visiting the place should be a positive indicator of the quality and popularity of the place.

If you are looking for Authentic Andra Snacks this is the place to go! They serve Chilly Bajji, Potato bajji and Punugulu which is topped with some chopped onions! The chutney they serve is extremly spicy! Each plate priced at Rs 30, it is very reasonable! They also serve Badam Milk priced at Rs 40

We read about this place in Hindu. And as the article suggested it is worth the effort. This is the best chilli Bajji and potato bajji in chennai so far. The way the batter is prepared, the masala mix is the secret sauce I think. Also it was not very hard on stomach too, means less soda I guess. All in all thoroughly enjoyed the snack

So going in search of another food stall, came across this bustling place that looks like any other Tea stall with a busier than usual eating crowd outside. But on a closer look the snacks here are completely different from those sold elsewhere.

This joint is known for its Andhra snacks like Punugulu, Chilli bajji with onion, Potato bajji and more. These items are stacked neatly behind a glass shelf. Now on the first visit I just tried the samosas and it was very nice (3 medium sized for 25rs) but what wowed me was the super hot n spicy chilly chutney that tearfully transports you to Andhra. Honestly this chutney is a few levels higher in heat than any others in the city I've tried but worth the pain! :P Decided to come again to try the other items properly.

Second visit: Ordered a plate of mini Punugulu which had 12 small balls of fried dough topped with dat chutney! This snack item is famous in Andhra. Liked the slight sourness coming from the curd in the batter. Otherwise its a fun snack to have. They add a mix of fresh chopped onions and coriander leaves to every plate of snacks too!

Negative

/---- Now one issue with this place is that not every snack is piping hot at all times since they make a few dozen at a time. So if you want fresh off the oil, wait until they make a fresh batch which happens once the earlier bunch is close to running out. This isnt their fault really since they are trying to supply a fluctuating demand. So it can result in lukewarm bajjis sometimes but they are still quite tasty.

Positives

1st item /---+ Then tried the chilli bajji with onion. 25 bucks. 3 per plate. He's cut the bajji length-wise and stuffed it with onions n coriander chopped. It's sprinkled with some amazing spicy powder straight from the Andhra palate. Although this wasn't available just fried, the counter person said it's better lukewarm since the heat and flavor would be too much to handle if piping hot. Agreed. The acidic taste of lemon juice sprinkled with the crunchy onions and powders and chutney mixed in was awesome and makes the tongue tingle even thinking! Makes me think of an Indian burrito!

Superb stuff! You can wait until they prepare a hot batch which happens every few minutes looks like from the amount of customers.

At this point you'll definitely be checking the surroundings for a source of water to quench the heat but the best part is the availability of cool drinks, Badam milk and even water packets in the fridge right behind the serving counter. It's cool they have even water packets so as to not force costlier beverages on people.

/---+ Tried the Potato bajji with onions (rs 30 i think) next which was round in shape and puffed up. Didn't see a whole lot of potato in there but it was still tasty because of the whole spice mix.

/---+ Had a single samosa (10 bucks each but a plate of 3 costs 25) which was as good as last time.

/---+Counter person mentioned the spiciest of the lot was the fried chilli bajji as expected. Asked for a single chilly bajji which had a thick very crunchy outer coating.

/---+ Tried the Badam milk (rs 35) finally just to cool down the tummy and was pleasantly surprised. It was very nice indeed with lots of sliced crunchy almond strips in every gulp. Perfect foil for a spicy affair.

/---+ Asked them if they sell the spice mix, seems it's sold for rs 600 a kg.

This was a long pending place in my list; after series of failed visits (as the shop was closed) I dropped here for my evening snacks. One look at the piping on bajjis getting cooked in the hot oil was enough to make me fall in love with this place. This snack stall is known for their fried delights that are favourites at Andhra.

We ordered a plate of Punugulu and then took a parcel of one plate of Punugulu, Stuffed Potato Bajji and Stuffed Chilli Bajji. The slightly warm and not so crisp Punugulu served with chilli powder and chutney is drool-worthy. The key ingredient that makes the fried delight delicious is the chutney; the sweet yet tangy or sour chutney is the reason why you will love the snacks.

The crispy bajjis stuffed with onion is fab. The flavour of ajwain in the bajji batter and the crispy, hot bajji with the chutney is yet another super tasty dish. I loved both the Chilli and Potato stuffed bajji but my favourite is the Potato. And neither the Punugulu nor the chilli stuffed bajji is for faint hearts because the spice level hits the maximum point.

We paid Rs.100 INR in total for 2 plates of Punugulu and 1 plate each of stuffed chilli and potato (3 pieces of each) bajji. I loved it and they are totally worth every penny; one must visit place in Chennai for tasty and spicy snacks. Also, the portion is good for one person. And the wait time would be more if you have more people queued up.

This place was long pending on my wish list and somehow managed to strike it out sometime last week.

Typically, known for its Punugulu (₹25). It was not even slightly warm when it was given to us, so it failed to convert me as it's fan as it tasted bland while it was cold. The Masala Podi too didn't help it.

The Stuffed Potato Bajji (₹25 for 3) was good but the Simple Bajji (₹20 for 4) was great. Liked the touch of Carom Seeds in the Gramflour Batter. Does give it a lift in taste.

First bite from the Chilli Bajji (₹25 for 3), I could imagine my face changing into the red siren symbol (Like how you see in Cartoons😃). It was alarmingly spicy. Certainly not something that I'm used to. Strictly not for the faint-hearted like me.

The Badam Milk (₹35) was pretty decent.

Only place within Chennai City to eat the spicy vijayawada stuffed bajji and punugulu🥵❤️ Recommendations: Place water jugs in front portion of the shop instead of location near washing area. Due to this most of the people prefer plastic water bottles that you sell.

📍 Suryanarayana rao snacks center, Pondy Bazaar Pungulu and Stuffed Bhajjis are served with some spicy chutney. Definitely the perfect snack after some shopping at Pondy Bazaar. The Badam Milk didn't taste up to the mark, but definitely felt better to drink after gobbling some spicy bhajjis! These are priced at around Rs.30 per plate and tastes too good! Do check this place out and refer Google maps for the exact location!

The best bajji you can have in Chennai. They maintain their quality always and thus you can eat tummy full without having any issues. Caution is advised in consuming their spicy chutneys, but they are yummy and test your taste buds for sure.

Good place for bhajji. It was very spicy but with the stuffing of onions it tasted good. The chutney which was served with bhajji was so good. Badam milk which was Rs 50 was not worth the cost, tasted average. Google pay accepted. Parking is not possible. Attaching menu for the prices

Wanna eat Andhra Style Pajji? With all the spicy chilli Chutney? Wift Onion stuffing in it? This is the place to spot on. Surya Narayana snacks seems to be run by Telugu people at Deen Dayalu Street in Pondy Bazar. Quite a famous snacks corner. The telugu style of making Bajji/Pajji with the Onion stuffing and seasoned Podi with Spicy red chutney makes the masala bomb in your mouth relish the taste. The Punugulu/Punagulu and other typical bajji/Pajji are made here. They also make Badam which is quiet famous here priced at ₹50.
