Guess this is an old hotel. Located exactly opposite to T nagar bus terminus. Parota and kurma is a must try here. All south Indian tiffin items are pretty good. If you are around in the crowded T nagar area, you can go have good food here at a very reasonable price. Please dont mind the ambiance. Food is pretty good and great value for money.

Sambar idly vada is the best here in the breakfast. They just make your morning beautiful. Dosa is heavy. Go for it if you are starving. Same with rava dosa.. But idly vada sambar is just amazing!!!

Its a other of those centrally located old madras tiffin centre places. Sure the coffee here is something my mum raves about. Great value for money meals. Nice and tasty tiffin items.
Recently I went here with mum and remembered their awesome Badam milk. I was disappointed it wasnt how it used to be before. It was just that edible camphor and turmeric powder smelling milk.
The onion oothappam was yummy and filling and just enough crisp. Staff here are very thoughtful and courteous.
After a crazy shopping day, go here and fuel your tummy for cheap. Thank me later!
They never had(or maybe never needed to have) air conditioning here. But one does feel uncomfortable after a whole morning of roaming t nagar streets in the sun.

One of my favourite outlet. Except few server, others will serve very quickly. It is authentic Kerala style food. If you visit here try mouth watering sambar idly & beetroot halwa.

My morning's breakfast starts here on most of days. Sambar idly, Onion vada, Poori, Pongal, Coffee are my usual. Economically priced and value for money. Interiors still maintain the restaurant style built during the 70's.

This restaurant on Usman Road , opposite T.Nagar depot is a remainder of Madras' past. The furniture, cutlery and  uniforms worn by waiters are old from the previous millennium.
Coming to food -  Sambar would be the USP. Aromatic is the word that describes it. Dosas are crisp and beautifully colored. Most importantly this place is extremely cheap.

Go to this place if you want to eat something dirt cheap or want to experience nostalgia.

I have recently developed a habit of having my sunday morning breakfasts at this old place. I would strongly recommend Indian Coffee House to anyone searching for South Indian breakfast around T.Nagar.
As the other reviews describe, this place doesn't invite you with the ambience but they leave their quality of the food do all the talking.Their Dosa, Vada, Sambar and Coffee won't leave you asking for more effective breakfast.
Try their Sambar Vada and Sambar Idly if you are new to them.

Very very good if you want to grab a quick and authentic South Indian meal. The dosa with the chutneys and sambar is heavenly.

Do try the Sambar Vada and Mini Idly varieties which are Vada and Idly filled in a sambar bowl. Absolutely legendary.

Then for the dessert, you can go for the Falooda or Badam Kheer both cost below 50rs. Yeah. You read that right.

And, after eating all this be prepared to see a bill which won't exceed Rs 200 for two people no matter how heavily you eat. Value for money redefined.

And yes, service is shabby and the ambiance is not too good. But what do you expect from a place like this which handles huge crowds located on the epicenter of the most happening place in Chennai?

This is one of the ideal places for typical south Indian style food. The restaurant lacks interior decoration but scores high on customer loyalty and patronage. The food is tasty and the prices are nominal.

For 4 years i waS A regular customer to this branch.
The servers in white dress were so good at taking the orders.
The sambar idly with hot coffeee was the best breakfast i had it several years

Few thousand cups of hot coffee i had there ...still not able to forget the taste

Samabar vadai makes the day so lazy to work for thereafter... soothing vadai in sambar with raw onion dices and coriander leaves garnished...ah wahhht a breakfasst...

The masala dosai, rava masala dosai, the poori with onion-potato curry, the chapati or parotaa with koorma and onion chutney....ahhhhhh great servings...

The vegetable biriyani, sambar rice, lemon rice, and the mini-meals saved my hunger....
I dont know how many days i had from there....

Affordable prices - quality food - cool servers in white uniform - good ambience...

A MUST PLACE TO EAT IN T.NAGAR CROSS-ROADS (S.USMAN ROAD)

This is just opposite to the T Nagar Bus terminus. This is the most famous hotel around this area. This is a pure-veg restaurant and DOESNOT provide have any NON-VEG as mentioned in this site.
The Tiffins, like dosa, idli, vada-etc are availble right from the morning and contiue to be there till the day-end....

The highlight of this hotel is the TASTE OF THE SAMBAR. I jus lov it.. This is better than saravana Bhavan, A2B -etc. The same is the case with SAMBAR RICE. . Being a non-tamilian, thanks to Indian coffee house, i started liking them.

All the tiffins are good. You should also try the mini-meals. The taste of the food is very good.(be it any item). THere is a special tiffin everyday in the evening. THey can be Chola poori, rava kichidi, samya idli, set dosa vada curry... All the items are nice..

THIS IS NOT A POSH-RESTAURANT LIKE A Barbeque Nation or of that kind. So, ambience is just normal and it is clean..

i was a regular at their Neyveli branch which is inside the NLC Township. I love their dosas, sambar vadas, veg cutlets and strong coffee. The menu is not elaborate but the food is good. Order your food and enjoy the ambiance. The ambiance is pre-independence and crowded which has its own charm. You get the feel of eating in the 80s. The service is usually quick and the food tasted exactly the same, both in Neyveli and in T.Nagar because the cooks are circulated amongst the different branches of ICH. ICH is the perfect place to rest for a while and enjoy some tiffin and filter coffee after an action packed shopping activity in the bustling streets of T. Nagar.

A sultry afternoon time, hefty work on hands with hungry stomach as well. I was about to faint while crossing the signal near T. Nagar Bus depot. But before tah tcould happen i saved myself by getting into INDIAN COFFEE HOUSE. It is one of the oldest surviving restaurants in Chennai. But at the same time, the proprietor failed to spend on ambiance, which makes some people like us to stay away. But hunger never realizes certain things.

I ordered for a meal. It came with a beetroot halwa, some mixed rice, curry, curd etc. I was amazed. The proprietor rather spent on food quality than on ambiance. Finally, it rejuvenated my day and i proceeded, completed my hefty tasks efficiently and effectively. Not only because of food also due to cost effectiveness. The meal was less than 100 rupees.

If you are looking out for cost effective and tasty meal, go for this place for sure. But do not expect better ambiance as mentioned earlier.

Hence my score for the place would be 75 out of 100. Forgetting ambiance i would give it a score of 95.

It's one of the great unknown places to have good South Indian food in T.Nagar. This is located just opposite to T.Nagar bus stand.

From early in the morning till late in the evening, they serve hot tiffin along with some rice varieties in the afternoon. The speciality of the place is the sambar they serve. Must have items includes idly sambar & vada sambar. Ambience of this place is not great and is aimed at folks who visit T.Nagar for shopping.

Quality of food is great, the service is decent and the items are reasonably priced. Must visit if you are in T.Nagar for shopping.

This place is surely going to transport you back to the 60's where you get to experience the traditional chennai coffee and with a bit of modern twist by lemon tea. Haven't tried the food here but i can say the meals here are a hit where everyone is ordering it. The guy at the counter seems strict but is quite a nice guy who let us sit and wait out the rain and catch our bus home.

I love this food from my young age. This was one of the non overpriced decent food place in Chennai t. Nagar. A normal good for two with two idly, two Vada, one poori, one cofee for 141 Rs. So it's a good place to spend ur cash on. Try Vada with sambar dip.

Coffee will be very tasty here. The name of the hotel stands for the taste. They have to maintain the hotel hygienically. They have to provide proper uniforms for the employees. The prices are reasonable. If they maintain properly, it will be a profitable hotel in T. Nagar.

A favourite and affordable eat out in a prime place in T Nagar. I think it is run by a Co operator society in Kerala. The food tastes like home cooked . There serving people are friendly and honorable. You have to pay the bill at the counter so no tipping business.
