It's a must visit in Chennai!
My family and I loved the ambience.
The staff have been extremely courteous. We walked out smiling with our tummy full of delicious food.
My parents and I would definitely like to visit again 🙏
Not a bad place. They serve tasty food
But the place is really small. Reasonable price and good people . A good place to fill ypur tummy while you are hungry
Food was delivered in before the time period.
worth for that amount ...
also tasty ...
main thing 1 rice is enough for 3 ....
good taste and quantity to be increased and it's looks small size
worth for money...
good is taste....
The food was excellent. I have ordered parota and it was delivered piping hot and there are no words to explain the taste. I really salute the chef for providing such tasty good.
best briyani in recent times
The same old Ponnusamy.
This hotel is there in egmore for quite some years. They have tried to maintain their taste over the years. Their chicken and mixed fried rice are must try. Their parottas with chettinad curries will not disappoint you.
The hotel needs some revamp in terms of ambience. If you dont think about any other aspect other than food and have not visited this place , you can go for it once.
My recent times swiggy orders with this restaurant have not let down either.
Well the place is commendable for the neighborhood. The food is more than enough of what they give. The service men make sure they satisfy the customers' hunger for the rest of the day. Though the restaurant is small the interiors are filled with an essence of food. And of course the food is tasty. The place is worth visiting once.
We chose this place because of my friend suggesting that it was worth a shot. We had ghee roasts, grilled fish, onion oothappam, and dosas with chettinad chicken curry. The food was not spectacular, but it didnt exactly disappoint either. Plenty of parking space, easy to locate, decent service to go with all that. I dont think my solitary visit can do justice to their menu. Will have to try and go again sometime.
*Old Review*
This was once My family's fav restaurant! Ever since my childhood, we stop by this place for dinner most of the time.
Located in a complex with many other restaurants and cafes, parking isn't an Issue.
They serve authentic chettinad food And traditionally on the banana leaf.
Food here is good enough. We usually have their biriyani which is very much satisfying and other chettinad dishes are good here.
Their service is commendable.
Had been here a lot of times...you must try south indian meals...chicken 65 here is definitely the best...Parotta,Egg Kothu Parotta and gravies are also good...Biryani is average here..no choice of desserts is definitely a drawback..service is good..ambience is average...definitey an authentic cheetinadu restaurant you must visit .
Taste wise it good and for take away its the worst place you have wait for 1 hr and the person sitting in cash counter doesnt care about customers .. there must be seperate counter for take away and indoor catering
Quality, taste and service wise super. I had mutton briyani with chicken barbeque and finger fish. Taste wise super. I like to go many times.
My dad took me and my friends for a small treat to this hotel, we had mutton biryani, BBQ chicken, finger fish. The taste was top class, especially the biryani. This will be one of my favourite biryani destination.
Legendary...
Neednt say much about ponnusamy.. they have a legendary taste and mastered their dishes.. egmore they had their renevation happening.. limited seats their staff had me waiting and got a seat quickly.. awesome service. Quick in serving.. loved their briyanis and chetinad curry.. signature dishes
One of the veterans in the Chettinad restaurant business, I am thoroughly impressed by the quality of food they have maintained over the years. I used to eat here regularly in the late 90s-early 2000s, and had the chance to revisit after almost a decade. The interiors haven't changed in all these years - nothing fancy, but comfortable seating.
If you are like me in that you don't like a huge chunk of chicken or mutton in biriyani, go for the PLAIN BIRIYANI (half plate, ₹137) which in itself is quite flavourful, and combine it with one of the many interesting starters/sides. The waiter usually does a good job of recommending a dish if you tell him your preference in meat, bone/boneless, spice level, etc. Enjoyed the CHICKEN OIL FRY (quarter plate, ₹137) because the chicken was in shreds (pichi poatta kozhi) and therefore full of flavour in each bite; the only complaint being that there was too much of the oil-onion 'powder' (for lack of a better word) - almost equal to that of the chicken. Slightly larger shreds would have been better.
It's not a bad idea to order Chinese if you are in the mood for 'local-Chinese'. The North Indian items, I'm not so sure - the BUTTER NAAN (₹53) was a bit (and needlessly) sweet.
The quantity of the side dishes feels a bit less for the price. A meal for two could cost ~Rs.500
Fantastic place to have all the legal exotic meat you can. Love their turkey biryani and the Kadai roast. I can have the kadai roast again and again and again. Dont worry too much about the ambience or the service just go enjoy the food at Ponnuswamys
I've been to Ponnuswamy twice and both times it hasn't failed to disappoint my taste buds. The biryani here is really good and so is the fish fry. The masala chicken was a bit on the spicy side though. The ambience isn't that great but the food makes up for it.

Brilliant just brilliant. I had the Prawns biryani, Fried Fish (King Fish / Surmai), chicken tikka and some chicken curry. Wow. Good ambiance where you come eat and go. The food is served quickly and hot. It was too bad i found about this place on the last day i was in chennai. I would definitely recommend this place for the food they serve.

From my childhood till this day if I am bored of cooking or eating the non-veg dishes cooked at home then we head up here immediately.! Foremost, it is located close to my house and secondly, it satisfies the Sunday hunger of any non-vegan. Been here lot of times, though they have got lot of competitions in the similar cuisine that they serve us; but still for the good old sake this is one of the restaurant that pops-up when I want to have some good non-veg fest with family!!
They do have good parking facility. And the ambience is neat, nothing more to say as they are know for the good food that they serve and definitely not for the fancy or innovative interiors. The place is crowded the most during Sunday lunch time, so being early is better else you have to wait to be seated. As far as the menu goes, it's a heaven on your plate for all the south-indian non-veg freaks!! They do have veg options, so don't freak out, but it is definitely a place for non-vegetarians..
We tried to order the most of it, mutton soup was delicious itseems as my husbands says. I went on with the starters immediately, it was chicken tikka, fish finger and crab lollipop. The fish finger with the mayonnaise was good and fish was moist, but I do preferred the older version that they used to serve when I have been here some 10 years back. The chicken tikka was yum for sure, I loved it with the mint chutney. And Crab Lollipop was a mistake, I shouldn't have ordered it, but I was mislead thinking something similar to chicken lollipop; the sauce was good indeed but we can never handle the chicken and crab the same way, so I felt the crab was over-cooked with all the moist n softness being removed out of it and ended up just hard & dry.
Then for the Mains, ofcourse the biriyani (egg-1/2 plate), rice with mutton masala; those two were delicious and perfect nothing negative that I could think off except for the quantity that would be just enough for two. I have been here before, I infact have tasted there non-veg meals - which is something that suits perfectly for the hardcore non-vegan! As well as their parathas with chicken curry, it is just yum all the way with such a well-cooked graved with flavors that could not be any more perfect and also the moist chicken. And for the fish fry, it is so good with lovely marination given to fish and fried such that crispiness outside n moist fish inside..
For now as well they have quite a variety of non-veg dishes that fills your tummy. The price is definitely doesn't go so well with the quantity they serve, but hope most of the restaurants do serve at the same price or more. Also, you could forgive the price at times when they give some tasty food. The service is fast and old style. For variety, VFM, taste - 4/5, service, ambience, quantity and quality - 3.5/5.
The fantacies of Hard-core Non-vegetarians come true here and vegans, you have options but remember you have been sitting between the bones when you bite your carrots :P A Old-place that would never be forgotten for any Chennaitian, hope they keep up their name & standards.
Unfortunately I had visited during lunch which meant that my options were limited as they do most of their dishes for dinner. Nonetheless I did have a good experience.
Ordering the Mutton Biryani, Prawn fry, Kadai fry and the fish fry.
The Mutton Biryani as always was good, with a good meaty flavored balanced through the spice the kauai fry for me was the winner of the meal, with its intense taste and perfectly cooked meat.
The Prawn and fish were also very commendable.
I will definitely make a trip for dinner for another assessment but I recommend dining early in these kinda places as items tend to get over fast if you go late.
home delivery ordered chicken briyani in egmore ponnusamy
got in time chicken briyani : gud, the texture is gud not as usually briyani, big size chicken piece and quantity of rice is very low The Raitha was gud,.... rate is little bit high not matters in its taste whole sum gud must try for briyani lovers
Visited Ponnusamy in Egmore last year after many times in early 2000. Nothing had changed. Which I guess is a good thing especially when you know what you like. Choosing from the menu can be a daunting task and the waiters are ready to take your order as soon as you are seated. Speed of delivery in peak hours is exceptionally high. We chose a veg thali which is served on a banana leaf and Crab Masala. I would recommend this those of you who have gone for the first time, unsure about what to order and love Crabs and crave for a simple thali. A very potent transition from a low on spice thali to awesome spicy crabs. There are times when you know, when back in Chennai, a visit is a must and the order will bebthe same. This is one of those moments. The ambience is nit luxurious, we chose tonuse our hands rather than cutlery...adds to the charm espexially when food is served on a Banana leaf. 4.5 for my experience there andbthe yearning to back and have the same.
Decent place to have lunch! Loved their Mutton Pepper Fry & Netthili Poriyal!! Staffs were helpful & friendly..
Crab lollipop was sooooo delicious!!!
