Best place to eat Chats... Never miss out this place
One of The Oldest Sweet Shop in chennai
Same taste Same Quality till date
Had a work at sowcarpet..Dropped here for some chat items. Its located in Elephant gate.We had Sahi samosa channa and bhel Puri. The items tasted well and also it's VFM.Would love to taste more items soon 😊
Have been a regular to most of their branches in chennai. Went into this one while on the sowcarpet food trail with friends on a Saturday evening. This was one of the pit stops. Wasnt too crowded. Orders were fulfilled quite fast.
Tried different snacks items including murukku sandwich, samosa, kachori and khakra sandwich. Food tasted good. Khakra sandwich was a new item for us and it didn't disappoint. Also tried their rasmalai in dessert and was tasty.
A good place to visit for some snacks when around in sowcarpet.
It is good place for chaat items they have wide varieties of snack items as their name specified mithaai you must try any kind of sweet just give a try.
I had aloo tikki chat, anguri malai and rose milk.
None of my orders were bad. One of the best place to have aloo tikki chat. Anguri malai was thick and creamy.
Though the place was bit busy they managed to serve the orders fast.
Not much spacious and no seating is available, just tables are present.
Food:4.5/5
Service 4.5/5

Been here as part of a food walk. It was interesting to find that this shop had a huge history and has so many authentic items on its menu. The chats, dhokla and savouries are good here. One can collect a mix of the multiple items that they have on the shelves decked up as mixture
I had their fafda and jilebi.
Fafda wasn't that great,idk i didn't like it much.
coming to the sweets,it was overloaded with sweet xd.But so crispy and good🔥

Location & Ambience: It’s on the street that connects Mint Street to Elephant gate, if you are walking on the mint street then take the left after ‘chotu motu’ shop or the street opposite to the jain temple there and the mithai ghar is located on that same street on the right side. It’s a sweet or chat stall and you have a few tables to stand & eat your food, so ambience isn’t the thing you must majorly focus on.
Taste & Variety: They have a good selection of chat items along with sweets and pastries. We tried Rasmalai Kesar (4 pieces), Anguri Malai (2) and Khakhra Sandwich. Loved the anguri malai, it had the right amount of sweetness but wish the milk was creamier. Though the rasmalai was good, I have had better ones in the same area. Also the consistency and flavour of the milk wasn’t great. The khakhra sandwich was real good with huge layer of stuffing in-between the crispy khakhra. I would wish for more cheese and less potato but nevermind I liked it. And I had my eyes on khandvi and a few more items that but they were completely sold out the day I visited, guess I would be heading back there sometime to try them.
Quality & Quantity: The portion is perfect for a person and most dishes are made fresh everyday so no complaints with the food taste.
Price: For the above order we paid Rs.270 INR in total, the pricing is reasonable and affordable considering the food.
There are plenty of places around that locality to grab yummy sweets and chats and Ajnabi isn’t at the top of my list but it’s definitely one place to checkout if your at sowcarpet.
First place to start our instameet.
I had been seeing this place from when it was a small shabby mithai shop that sells hot Jalebi in early mornings.
It's in the midway of Elephant gate road. Parking is out of question. Either park in the roads adjacent ( if it's deserted ) or in Mint street itself and walk back.
Though they had pretty good chaat, sweets and savories, we had Dhokla and Bhel poori. Dhokla was soft and the sweet syrup was smeared in ample amount. The chilli sauce was a good accompaniment. The bhel poori was okay as I had better bhel pooris in the city.
It's self service and prices were nominal.
What a place. Total authentic.

Food is mainly Indian fast food kachori is the best and the orange chutney is Ummah:* 4.5/5
Ambience- 5/5
It has variety of packed food products made in Gujarat and Maharashtra. Pani poori is one of the costilest I've had in Chennai.. but also the best.
Mixture and sweets are 5*. Must visit if you come to Sowcarpet. Perhaps the only parallel to kakda Ramprasad. Though both are legend in themselves. It's just opposite to my office so this one's a regular affair. special guests in my office are treated with ajnabi mithaai ghar delicacies.
Ajnabi...sometimes called as ajabs...one of best place for sweets and savoury...I'm A grt fan of their jilebi 😍....a must try sweet shop to all foodies

As part of food walk we visited this place. We had fafda hard to pronounce for first time but taste excellent. Khakra sandwich and amazingly superb. Then the angur malai simply superb. The dhokla they serve is best in class and finally the mint lime cooler.
They have plenty more items need to visit another time to taste those
Amazing fafda jalebis, Khandvis are good too.
Try the small kachoris with the sweet orange chutney.
Extremely crowded on Sunday mornings. Pre order over phone!
Not eligible to give a detailed review as I just had one Chaat and a small laddu.
Was going around Sowcarpet on a food walk. Stopped by this shop after Chinnappa Sandwich, Anmol Lassi and Maya Chaat.
The shop is quite small. But has a lot of items.
Just had one Aaloo Tikka Dhahi Chaat. It costs 65 bucks and the quantity was very good. The quality was okayish but not as satisfying as the other shops I stopped by on the walk. The sweet was decent.
I suggest everyone to look for some blogs and check out the small Chaat shops in Sowcarpet. They are faaarr better and serve delicious food, even though ambience is not so good.
Ajnabi Mithai Ghar, the famous Gujarati Sweets and Savories is no stranger to those who have been in Chennai for quite a while. This outlet in George town is one of the oldest and offers a wide range of sweets, savories and chat items. I visited this place after a very long time, a couple of months back. Interiors were somewhat different compared to the last time I had visited or at least as far as I could remember from my last visit.
To our disappointment, Fafda and Khandvi were not available on the day we visited and so we tried some of their other well known offerings - Kesar Ras Malai and Anguri Malai. Tasted awesome. I happened to visit this place again for their Fafda, few weeks later. I love fafda for its crunchiness and unique taste.
Ajnabi Mithai Ghar is a legendary shop in Sowcarpet not to be missed if you wanna try some authentic Gujarati Cuisine - sweets and savories.
Customized mixture @ Ajab's :)
Went to the place as part of the food walk in sowcarpet area on a Sunday morning.
Owner was kind enough to provide a plate of Fafda(as i was told) which was the first time n it was good. :)
As per experts opinion tat the mixture is a good choice here, I was searching for the varieties.
Suddenly, I heard that mixtures could be customized based on your liking.
I like spicy mixtures more than the sweeter ones. I checked with the owner n he was quick enough in getting the ingredients from the stacked boxes.
In a jiffy, my order was ready.
My mom n myself enjoyed the spicy mixture :)

Should visit next time for the rest of delicacies !!
A relative of mine came from sowcarpet to visit the fam and brought along some gorgeous sweets and savouries ❤️
The sweets were delicious 😻 and I'm pretty sure it didn't burn a hole in his pocket 😂😂😂 The savouries on the other hand was perfect and nice ❤️
The fruit falooda was amazing and jelabees too 😄
So overall this place is a good deal 😊
Always crowded but the food they have is worth all the trouble. I have tried almost all their branches and boy are they good. I am particularly fond of the dabeli that they sell. Over time they seem to have become expensive which is the only downside to this franchise.
The chats that you get may not be the freshest but the flavour/taste is great and unique after being in business for a long long time. A good shop to hunt for sweets and also for their farsan which you can customize.
Recommend a visit on Sunday morning to get a flavour of Gujarati breakfast of Fafda/Jalebi/Dhokla/Khandvi etc.
A good street food esp. Bhel puri. It's the best compared to any other place I had. There jalebi and gantiya are good too particularly for breakfast. Also try spinach Chat. It's yum.
This is the first and oldest ever outlet of Ajnabi Mithai Ghar in the city of Chennai. The place is more than half a century old and has been patronizing it's sweets and savouries to the local's here for an everlasting period of time. They have spread their wings far and wide and opened many other outlets across the length and breath of the city but nothing like visiting the original and experiencing where it all started out.
We were here as part of a Sowcarpet food walk on a Sunday morning and the little place was packed to the rafters. You have a brief history of the place put up in a board with how they started their foray and the milestones along the way.
I got to taste the Fafda and Khandvi here. Both were remarkable. The Fafda was smooth and went along jocularly well with the lentil side dish and the Khandvi looked so appealing to just look at and the taste justified the looks to the 'T' by being equally enticing. They have a scourge of other stuff you would want to try.
Don't forget to visit the most authentic and original Ajnabee Mithai Ghar if you ever get a chance to visit this old world town of Sowcarpet.
Been here many times and my review is from the recent two outings.
I picked up some mini pedha's and they were so good. Very soft and tiny ones which just melt away. Priced at 440 a kilo, you definitely find it worth the money.
We also had some pani puri, dahi papdi & bhel puri. All of them were impressive. The pricing is definitely on the higher side.
the best place to hve morning breakfast over here , tastiest ajnabi
those dhokla fafda 😋jalebi kachori &namkeens !
a place in sowcarpets fr breakfast!
Another North Indian place to definitely try out.
When you want authentic samosas, this is where you come. When you want dhokla, come here. When you want any Gujarati snacks, COME HERE. Ooh and they also have really fancy things like murukku sandwich and Chinese bhel, so you might just want to check those out. And don't forget to try their famous Ajab mixture fresh in the store, it's EPIC.
If you're ever headed to Sowcarpet, you must make sure this place is on your list of food places to try out. Quite a walk from the entrance of South Mint Street, and a little hard to find, but ask around and you won't be disappointed.
I have been there once.We have ordered for Pav bhaji,Dhahi vada, badam milk, spring roll. All the food items were really good. For sure will visit again.
This shop is near to my office, I have been a great fan of their coleslaw sandwich. Their dhokla's , vada pav , paatra, samosaes are really good. Worth the money, their taste is good. Namkeens - they have got good numbers to chose from, sweets - their milk cake stands out. Overall a good place to eat. Better you park your vehicles within the parking mark, else fair good chance of your vehicle getting towed by traffic policemen.
I always get a nice feeling while getting in to ajnabi !! All of their preparations are yummmy!!! Cheese vada pav is fantastic!! U can relish savory items, chaats, sweets all equally well !! ? Only ever problem I face here is this location in sowcarpet..!! Nightmare to get in & out safely ... Plus there s high chance u may lose the enthusiasm for tasting the sweets bfre u find a parking space ? Yet to try their egmore outlet.. Certainly it's bound to b much more comfortable than the one here
Ajab as it called locally and famously!! I stay near this shop and I know the amount of crowd and the traffic they create. But, seriously, they are full worth of their money. Jalebi fafda is der old speciality and it still remains d same. Adding to that they have started all kind of chat and have made the place very spacious. Its worth going once when u visit sowcarpet!!
Must try pani puri !!! its just awesome !!!
Placed insides of sowcarpet a fine place to have chat items tried panipoori and dhaipoori. Panipoori was faboulous.highly ratrd for their decency and service
This place which is tucked away within the confines for Sowcarpet, probably serves the best chaat in Chennai, and if not the best; certainly would rank among the top 3.
Their selection of sweets is also extensive and once you negotiate the hustle and bustle of Sowcarpet, this place is an oasis of chaats and sweets, and those with a serious sweet tooth beware. "All ye who enter will never leave".
A small bit of extra information for the unaware. Just outside the enterance to this shop is a street food vendor selling hot channa served with pav, or a samosa, or aloo tikki. Certainly worth a try.
Good north Indian breakfast
Yummmm ........
The best BHEL PURI in the city which is made up of home made chutneys .....
Awesomeness at its best
Lip smacking snacks that gives the authentic taste of Gujarat
The service is quick n a friendly one
They have maintained their quality since 52 years ........
Keep up the good work :)
Good place for Gujarati snacks and other items. But congested still. Price wise average to a bit of higher side. Taste wise good i will tell as it is in Chennai and hardly we have any option to compare.
A good place to have some tasty chaat, sweet and savouries. Must try the ajab special mixture. The chilli bajjis are extremely spicy. Best to compensate with badam milk. It's a small place with just 2 standing tables for eating. No hand wash though. Ensure you carry sanitizer if you plan to dine in. All modes of payment are accepted.
Jalebi and Fafda are too good, sweets are made daily fresh items available, mixtures are also good one. Evening time Bonda, mirchi vada are also available.
One of the best place to enjoy some delicious Gujarati snacks & chat. This is a small and cozy eatery that serves a variety of Gujarati dishes. The food is fresh, tasty, and affordable. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the service is quick.
Gujarati sweets & snacks stall, recently renovated into fully a/c with bigger space. Prices are considerably high, but, quality and taste is well maintained.
Best place to buy sweets and snacks items. Customer service needs improvement.

Vast variety of sweets. Tasty and delicious. Looks good and tidy place to eat. Must try each of them. Hot items are also available.
If you want to try authentic Gujarati snacks then Ajab Mithai Ghar is the right choice..
