The best thing about the cafe is it is run by the staff who has suffered Burns and all the money which is generated goes to the NGO who helps the victims in their upliftment.
Moreover, the food is amazing. Very delicious and all the food is cooked by the victims themselves who are highly trained.
The overall Experience is amazing with wide range of Niche stationery & rejuvenating coffee.
Just enjoyed a superb lunch Writers' Cafe. Lovely food, wonderful hospitality, great experience and the best part is the cafe is run by acid-attack victims. So please do stop buy, grab a bite and support this fabulous initiative.
In the words of Chennai's favourite restaurateur, 'Hot Breads' Mahadevan, who happens to run this place, "Ditch the sympathy and bring your appetite".
I just had a wonderful lunch consisting of Swiss Cheese Fries, Ceasar Salad and Tuna, tartare sauce, pickles on Chiabatti., and Death By Chocolate cake! What a great atmosphere and a wonderful staff. This is my new favorite place in Chennai!
Great place for writers, book and food lovers. A wonderful place to have meaningful conversations or enjoy being in solitude with something to write or read.

What a wonderful place. Lovely books and lovely people.
I have ordered sandwich bread , muffins ,blueberry cheese cake and potato slider . They called me to change to chocolate muffins as blueberry was not available which I was slightly disappointed. But I loved chocolate muffin more and to my surprise, they gave me multigrain bread on the house and quality is so good in lockdown which I miss from few restaurants. I would definitely love to order from them again.
One stop for bookaholics and foodies alike. This is a go-to place if you're looking for shopping for popular books and stationery items and you don't mind grabbing a quick bite. Browse through the book shelves when your food gets ready. Courteous staff and admire them for contributing their profit to Burn victims. Keep up the good work.
Sweet potato chips and potato wedges deserve special mention along with deserts and soup.
This place never disappoints. Always full of people, you can go in for a quick snack or an elaborate dinner. These guys have basic dishes with a few add ons but everything makes you lick fingers. Love the sausage and grilled chicken pizza, cheesy fries, cheese jalapeno balls and the red velvet popsicle.
Highly Recommended Place.
An excellent place for those looking to enjoy reading and coffee! The ambience is laidback, with seating adjacent to bookracks courtesy Higginbotham's.
I enjoyed the Flammkuchen and the Nutella-Banana drink. The ice-cream options are plenty, but I found the Blueberry yoghurt flavour the best of them all. The other flavours are just about decent.
The place isn't too expensive, the icecream was a steal and the pizza was ideal for two.
Overall, the service can be a bit more responsive.
The Place is very cosy, the colour and ambience gives us a great feel to stay in there. The Staffs are very polite and friendly I love them.. Food is great and very much pocket friendly wether you go in 4's or 6's it dint cross 800₹, it will be a day dream to get great food at that low cost writers cafe is the best.. waffles and honey dip, square pizza, "Namma" Bread omblet or love ♥️♥️💕 Cheers to writers cafe
I've been coming to this branch regularly and it has been consistently good. But on Women's Day, they excelled themselves. Super friendly service by Amit and the others (sorry I didn't get their names but they are all so nice it doesn't really matter!) And of course, great food. I had taken my parents to the first Writer's on Peters Road soon after it had opened. This is the first time they've come to the Taramani branch and I think they're going to want to keep coming back! Thank you Amit and co!
Been here twice. This is a very good place, boasting of everything from courteous, professional staff and good food to lush green manicured outdoors visible from the inside through glass walls.
The staff here really do deserve a special mention - they not only always greet us with smiles and explain our options, but are also very adept at managing situations.
The food here is quite good - the flammenkuchen offers so much VFM.
The menu does not have scrambled eggs, but if you're looking for it, you can directly ask the waiters - coming with a slice of toast and a side of veggies, it is competitively priced at 90 bucks.
Great place .... The ambience is one of the best if you visit in day... Properly lit with daylight and books to keep you company.
Lemon chicken and pasta were amazing ...
And for the best of the day ...the ice creams ... 😍😍
Kesar Badam and Fig& Almond swept me off my feet
Ambienece was quite pleasant. A good decent place to hangout with friends as well as an official talk. No too much lightings, which is quiet good. Taste of the food was really good. Except the portion size of few items were less. Overall experience was Good!!!
Service needs to be improved. We had to request the staff for plates and cutlery and also for ordering.
Food is yummilicious.
Pizza 🍕 😍 ice-cream top notch as always.
Mac and cheese was quite bland could have added a bit of seasoning.
Chicken mince potato bake and chicken sizzler were perfect!!

This place has been on my list for a really long time. Somehow, a visit never happened so far. Today, I had to meet a friend in Ascendas, and since I skipped lunch and the meeting took quite long to get over, I wanted to get something to eat around 5PM. Quite hungry, decided to go to Writer’s Cafe, not too far from Ascendas.
With the amount of love it gets, it needs no introduction. Writer's cafe is a lovely place if you want to work, chill, have a meeting, catch a friend up, cry, anything. It's so adaptive to any kind of a meet up. Has lovely ambience with glass walls, book shelves welcoming you with open arms and greenery. Cheerful outlet.
I'm a regular here and am a fan of the name they have given their pizzas, the rectangular shape of the pizza which is very convenient to consume and their ice creams. The flavours available keep changing which rules out the monotony in the choosing process.
A nice place to sit and hang out with your friends. Ambience is super cute and staff is very friendly. Everything you order will be value for money. Must try 🥰

Such a chilled out place 😍
I recently shifted to Chennai and I've just started exploring new restaurants. Randomly, we came here and just fell in love with this place.
As a book lover, came to check out Higginbothams. Totally love the set up and ambiance. It was jam packed at 6.30. We didn't want to leave without trying something. So we decided to have Lime Mint cooler and Green Apple Lemonade and leave.
The more time we spent there, the more we loved. We ended up having our dinner here.
Had a creamy white sauce penne pasta and pizza loaded with toppings.
The dessert menu seems pretty elaborate and tempting. Really waiting to try all these.
The pricing sees pretty reasonable for the quality food and service they are offering.
The staff are friendly and courteous. I totally loved the chilled out vibes! Definitely will recommend this place ✔️
Lovely ambience. The pizza is a steal but the quantity of pasta was a bit too less. I really want to spend a whole day reading here, will be back again. Finally, a place I so wanted to visit is off my bucket list.
Its lovely place to chill out even u can study there very silent place n food is very good
I love this place n my friends n boyfriend too loved it
Taste: 5 Service: 4 Ambiance 4.5 VFM: 4
My second visit to the writer's cafe but first time to this outlet. The food is great here. The pizza, dessert, salad, and the coffee are perfect with its fine ambiance.

Excellent food with a excellent ambience. It is inside the Higginbotham bookstore and rumour is that the restaurant is a charity initiative. In any case the continental food available here is comparatively cheap.
Only one downside is the options available. Nothing apart from some contenental food, excellent starters, desserts, pizza and Pasta.
Feel relaxed with food and books... Go here at any time, get a table and under the ambience, get a book and start reading... Deserts are awesome
The food was amazing as usual I am a regular visitor here
I always love their desserts and Aglio Olio that’s my favourite dish over there
There’s no doubt on the ambience its always amazing
It’s the one and only place for niftians to munch on. Thanks to writer’s. They change the menu often so there is a variety in dishes. And even the ambience and service are really good.
This place is quite close to my office, so have visited this many times and tried almost all of their dishes. They have a very good range of hot beverages ( cappuccino, cafe mocha, cafe latte etc) at a mere 60 Rupees, so makes it a perfect coffee place. Out of the whole menu, the favourites would be the sloppy joes, jàlpeno cheese poppers, chicken satay, flamekunchen and the waffles. They also have a separate section for ice cream with cute colourful waffle cone.
A must visit place for a quick bite.
A very cute place and quite reasonable. Deserts are mouth watering. I visited this place at around 10:20 which was just there closing time but they still let us order. Staff was really cooperative and friendly.
Must try there ice creams.
Cheers 🍨
A very economical place to hangout. The ambience was cheerful, at times loud and they let you linger. The service and food were good. ......
Awesome place, prices are genuine, good quantity, taste was there in everything we ordered, try out their pizza it's yummy and cheap too!! Sandwich was delicious and bit different from normal sandwiches. Ambience was pleasant and cheerful. Must visit cafe ❤
Nice place good taste, ambience was good and,i prefer this place to relax, i have ordered minced chicken patty the service was fast and i enjoyed the food
This is a one-of-a-kind, splendid outlet which has the most lovely ambience and a wonderful menu. You get to be seated amidst a glorious array of bookshelves and aesthetically pleasing(not to mention, delicious) desserts all under a well-lit, vibrant area.
Have tried a lot of dishes from the menu and found almost all of them to be great. Generous portions of great food at totally value-for-money rates. Would love to go back here pretty soon.
Went here without any expectations.Ordered chilli cheese fries, spaghetti and caramel sauce pancake topped with desire flavoured icecream. The fries and pasta we're good but pancake was amazing 😁 one of the best I've ever had. Looking forward to go and try other dishes 😊
Went there for lunch on Friday with my close 5 folks.
The place was packed with ppl.So it would be ideal to book your table.
However we got our table in less than 5 mins(lucky).
The ambience is good with large glass transparent panes on all sides. And so the place was very much lit up :)
Service was very good.Polite and Courteous waiters.
And the food was top notch.Writers cafe gives so much attention to the taste, qty/portion , quality and the presentation.Although it may seem a little pricy, it's worth the buck.
My favs were
Peppery Mushroom - Fresh mushrooms and that sauce tasted soooooooo yummm.
Waffles with Ice cream - Fresh from the oven.Whipped cream filling + Ice cream (icing on the top :D) - Absolute winner.
Also a must try is their Flamenkuchen.Pizza lovers would definitely like it.
Overall a classy food experience.Thank you Writer's Cafe!
It has a very good ambience, the staff is really good and helpful. I had ordered pasta and chicken satay. I personally like both. It was very freshly cooked and chicken satay had a good taste.

Probably one of the best cafes in Chennai! It's my happy place as it's pocket friendly too ❤ They have a very wide menu with a separate range of desserts and ice creams!
They even have an amazing ambience and decor! It maught be a bit crowded, so do book your tables if you are going as a big gang 😁
I celebrated my birthday here with few friends, and for someone who loves both food and books, the place is entirely appropriate for me. I thank my friends. The cake was good. Waffles was average, French toast was bad, baked potato cheese was good. We purchased books and had a good time. It is a nice place to hang out and read.
Great place to have a light and healthy meal! Though not an extensive menu everything that I have tasted has been pretty good. Their dessert spread is amazing. Love their ice creams. Have tried almost all their flavours. Where else will you get good quality ice cream for just 45 rs a scoop. Other benefit you see proceeds going to spastics society and they actually support the less privileged. You really feel happy that your spends going for a social cause.
From hogging on pastas, risotto, sticky lemon chicken, sandwiches, sizzler to sipping on coffee, shakes, ice teas and coolers. A brilliant menu, with excellent taste, and consistency across in taste across all branches. A pretty little place for booklovers
Half Higginbotham's bookshop, half casual caferestaurant
This is one of the best spots in Chennai for inexpensively priced, finely prepared, international food
From pastas to Thai curries and
Chicken with gravy and mash
There are plenty of tasty snacks, salads and pastries too
The best one is yet to come I got so carried away with the idea when I heard that their Profits go to help victims of domestic violence!!!
What else do you need to find to fall in love with this place 💙❤️
One good place with affordable price and this ambience is just love!!This branch of writer's cafe is quite spacious Unlike gopalapuram's.
Hot chocolate was not up to the mark but for the price it tasted good! Both the pasta's was good for the price and the quantity was also decent!
Jalapeno Chess balls was prepared very well and I really loved their sauce!
Staffs were also friendly! Yu can always hangout with your friends and family here!
Well, this has became my very favourite spot for spending the lovely Saturday night with friends. 😍 I usually come here just for their lovely ambience, great cafes, absolutely delicious pastas, ❤️😍 and books 💖
All my fav things comes in one place. ❤️
We have ordered : Cappuccino, jalapeño cheese poppers, pasta Alfredo and chicken lasagne.
I loved the cappuccino, the simple yet classic way. ☕😋
Jalapeño cheese poppers were also so good. The dip went well with the poppers. It wasn't melting on my mouth though but still it was great. 😋🤩
Pasta Alfredo is something I love eating all time. They have nailed it. The quantity was enough for one zombie eater. 😜
The chicken lasagne came in a big bowl😋 the best lasagna. It was delicious, creamy and fulfilling. 🤩🤩
For desserts, we got lemon tarte, red velvet cup cake and the fancy softies.
Overall, it wa a great experience for me. The price is bit high. Staffs were very friendly and service was quick despite the rush. 👍And oh, I got 'the girl in room 105' book. 📙
Nice ambience. Reasonable prices. Food is nice. I feel it could be better. Ice creams would be too good. Try Biscotti you'll love it. Must place to try. They have many books also if you're a book lover, great place for you
The cafes is at a good location with parking. A good range of options on the menu. It would be nice if they provided wifi so that it becomes a place where we can work and chill!
Had a very good experience.
The service was good.
The choice of pancakes, waffles and ice creams are appreciated.
Ice cold coffee and hot chocolate can make our eve well.
Altogether wonderful experience
Been here couple of times and have ordered more than a dozen times ! :D I totally love their waffles, ice creams and the cute tiny cupcakes. Their margarita pizzas and cottage cheese toast are my other favorites here. Its totally worth the money and a good place to hang out with friends
This is probably where I had THE BEST dining experience. Apart from the wonderful fact that it is a non profit organisation, the slowly prepared food are excellent in taste and texture. Worth your time and money.
One of the best cafes in Chennai by long shot in terms of quality and value for money. Nice to see the differently abled spastic people doing an amazing job in maintaining the ambience of a proper cafe. The food here is delicious and my favourite has to be the chicken Katsu curry rice which was beautifully presented and was rich in flavour and taste. Going along with it was the mint cooler which was a nice accompaniment too. Overall a lovely place for couples and office goers wishing to spend some casual time
In one sentence, the best restaurant in Chennai that I have visited till date...5 star for quality of food and so is for ambience...The service was also very nice though I felt the need for more staff.Overall experience was fantastic...
One of my favourite spaces to meet friends or take out the kids. The food is always perfect and the deserts are to die for. Plus the added pleasure of book browsing and shopping. If you haven't made it here yet then you should in the summer for their icecreams.
One of the famous restaurant in chennai , Writers Cafe. We had pepper wings for the appetizer, which was more like the buffalo chicken , it could have been better. Tried minced chicken patty sizzler that tastes classy than it looks.
Next we thought of trying a pasta and endep up ordering spaghetti pesto cream sauce with broccoli, mushroom toppings and much needed mozzarella cheese. Completely slayed 🌟And to hv a good climax, We went trying almond cake along with a scoop of chocolate ice cream. The taste made sure that we ordered 2 more scoops of different flavors. The desserts were dope !
Coming to the ambience, they had pleasant Nd an elegant environment.
Talking Bout service, they had enough waiters, but still the interactivity could hav been better too. Overall a great place to watch out :) Cost - 800 for 2
This place is just so beautiful 😍 it's a non-conventional book store cum cafe. Desserts are too good and the ice cream is just amazing! The chicken lasagne was my favourite. But in a group of 10 people, it was disappointing to have 1 person's food served last, especially when every body else was done eating. 🤬 But apart from that, food quality is great although quantity can be slightly increased!
Heard good things about this place for a long time... Lived upto the expectations.. Mac n cheese was notably good... And they also have a nice ice-cream section... One dislike though was the amount of house flies...
I love the environment which is spacious and we ordered sticky lemon chicken which is sweet and spicy, Multigrain Varese which is good, Exotica really yummmyyy which has apple baked inside it and stick heart icecream realllyyy a wowwww I loved it and yummmyy taste and green apple lemonade is sweet and taste is superb atlast I loved all the items which I ordered 😊😊and my favorite place in taramani
The food is delicious. However, I wish the dessert portions were bigger. 90 INR plus tax for a tiny sliver of cheesecake?! As Joey would say, "Cut me a real slice!"
This is a great place to hang out if you're not feeling like eating a lot but just want to have some small eats. They have amazing salads and small plates. Couple the with good ambience you have a clear winner.
Has a nice feel to it. Those who have a sweet tooth should definitely drop by. The food is grest and for the price point will exceed your expectations.
Book lover + Tasty food + Yummy desserts = Writer's Cafe. Cool Ambience, colouful shop and a good place to chill with friends or relax alone or even family.
Best thing about the place abd food is colours with perfect combinations!
I’ve tried many dishes here, but last time we ordered pizza with pesto sauce and mozzarella cheese with all the veggies we liked! That dish was a delicious! A bit of a crispyness and the flavour of pesto sauce.
Pizza is a must try dish over there.
Desserts are having different varieties, we tried ebony, which was creamy and perfect amount of sweetness , which I admire about them.
Location: Writer's Cafe
Best for: Flammenkuchen, Grilled chicken, Red velvet cheesecake ice cream
How about some yum yum tiny winy burgers and some pesto base pizza? Grab a bite from Writer's cafe!!

One of the best budget cafes in town. Thanks to my cousin who suggested this beautiful place. Friendly ambience where you are surrounded by books. The menu is so fresh and reasonably priced. A thin base pizza with mozzarella cheese is heaven. Must try spot with your partner or gang of (3-5).
This is the first time I visited this cafe, price is reasonable.very nice place for evening hangouts.if you are cakes , icecream, shakes pasta pizza lover ...you can definitely go there. you can enjoy ur food with friends and family with nice ambience.

Loved the food and ambience. Not to mention the beautiful natural sunlight filled setting was a big differentiator than any other cafes in town. Had black rice risotto, minced chicken and potato bake, egg florentine and icecream. Price was surprisingly reasonable for a cafe of this class. Oh, and loads of books to read :). Definitely I will try again.
Chose this place for a Friday lunch. Arrived early knowing very well that it may get crowded. Good decision in the end. I was happy with the ambience of the place, very contemporary. There’s also a book store as you enter this place. Service was good and staff was ok. With the exception of one, nobody was keen on smiling. Unusual for a restaurant. Had starters, sandwich and ginger lemonade. Also had ice cream and cheese cake from the attached bakery. Everything tasted great. 5 stars for the pesto sandwich. Must try. Strongly recommend this place and hope to visit again.
I love loved this place so much!! First of all, what an ambience.. High ceilings, so many books surrounding you and a pleasant staff make it for such a comforting vibe.. feels almost like you are in a foreign locale. Loved this place much more than the Gopalapuram branch!
I had a coffee and a garlic bread as a light evening meal.. Both were no frills yet met my expectations just right.
Totally recommend for a lazy evening hang out!
Food Ordered:
1) Malaka Chicken Sticks
2)Bird's Eye Chilli Flammenkuchen with Olives and Grilled Chicken
3)Iced Tea
4)Hot Chocolate
To start with the appetizer, Malaka Chicken Sticks(3pieces). It was bit on the spicier side. Taste was average. Just quick tip. It will be better if it's served with a chutney or sauce/mayonnaise.
The Flammenkuchen was really amazing and worth every penny. Starting from taste to texture, colour. Cooked to perfection.
The Iced Tea was average. The Hot Chocolate was really great.
Service was prompt. Decor is beautiful and this outlet is much prettier than the other ones.
Today, I had the pleasure of visiting the writer's cafe and it was an amazing experience. The atmosphere was very cool and relaxing, which made it the perfect spot to get some writing done. Although the food was a bit pricey, it was definitely worth it. I indulged in some delicious cheese balls, sausage pizza and a warm cup of hot chocolate. Overall, it was a great day filled with good food and creativity.

Writers Cafe in Taramani offers a truly worthwhile experience, especially for its inviting ambiance and delectable food. While most dishes excel, the Writer Cafe special fried chicken can be a bit oily. The added charm of an attached small book store enhances the overall vibe. With decent parking space, it's a must-visit spot, but ensure you reserve a table for a seamless experience
Everything good about this place. There is parking available. Books are available to read but only if you buy them. Staff speaks English also. Food price is reasonable.
Went for a team dinner on Friday and absolutely loved the place. Limited food options but all of them were very tasty. Quick service. Loved the book vibes! Would definitely be a go-to spot every time I'm in Chennai.
The food was good. The staff was friendly. Loved the vibes. Waffles with hazelnut spread was amazing. Cheesecake was okaish. Flammkuchen was really good. Must try. And everything was economical.
Salt.....All I ask I Salt.
The environment, the food and service.
But the food might appear to the taste buds and that's the nature of the cusine.
Personal recommendation - ask for melted butter and spice it up with Oregano, Chilli Flakes, some black Pepper and a very tiny amount of salt. Changes the German/ French dish to Italian and mumma Mia.
This cafe has a beautiful decor and amazing ambience that immediately puts you in a relaxed mood. The prices are reasonable, making it accessible to everyone.
The food served at Writer's Cafe is simply delicious and offers a great variety to choose from. I tried a range of dishes and every one of them was great, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. The prices were affordable, and it offered great value for money.
The service at Writer's Cafe was prompt and staff were friendly, making my dining experience even more enjoyable. The cafe is easy to locate and has great parking space, which is an added bonus.
While the cafe can get crowded during weekends, it is worth the wait. The relaxing vibe and serene atmosphere make it an excellent place to unwind and spend time with loved ones.
Overall, Writer's Cafe is a great place to visit for its ambience, food, and relaxing vibe. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delightful dining experience in Chennai.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this establishment, where I indulged in a delightful cup of coffee paired with delectable snacks. The impeccable service and inviting ambiance contributed to a truly exceptional experience. Furthermore, the presence of adjacent bookshops added to the overall charm of the place.
The food was good, and the service was also decent ,Simon was too good and served us well.the atmosphere was also nice ,overall it's such a good place to visit
Note:have to visit for their deserts ,they have alot of varities
First of all Great food and ambience. Kind service and variety of options to look out for. Affordable prices and gives the same taste as always. Thin crust and pastas are my favourites here. Definitely go for a visit and you won't be disappointed. You can find the bill in the attached pics. Have fun..!!
